an awsome is a great professor and few could compair
Fantastic musician!
love the accent.....
Nice course to enjoy. He's really into the class, which is nice.
This class is an easy A, plus Anatole is a cool dude, and an amazing musician!
Great violinist & teacher, too bad most students don't stay for the whole class.
Good teacher. Easy class
If you don't get an A in this class you are STUPID and drop out of college now!!
Fun elective to take. He's a cool guy!
Wonderful Musician, good teacher, stay for class, it's not always predictable :)
good music

Anatole's the bomb! And he's really understanding and pleasant
RAH! hated this guy...not so cool. Doesn't like to help and nothing is graded on time.
Class wasn't as easy as I had hoped. He isn't very good at explaining the terms. But with extra credit concert going, you can get an A.
TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT!!!!!!
Class is so-so, need to attend to learn anything. Very nice guy, very talented and knowledeable.
This class is an easy A, everyone should take it. If you aren't good with music, you can get extra credit by going to concerts.
Super fly!!!!
the class is awesome & professor is awesome!! he's an amazing violen player & makes class interesting!!
Good class, if you come to the lectures you will do well on the tests. Very good at the violin
great teacher
Oversized class, Listening parts of the test can get confusing. But if you go to extra credit concerts you can easily pull off an A.
Very easy class. If you don't want to go, don't. Show up for the review sessions and go to some extra credit concerts and your golden.
He was really nice and the class was pretty easy. I really like it actually.
Class isn't bad. I took it online. You don't reall need to watch the lectures. He's an ok professor via email but watch out, he doesn't speak very good english!
if you want an A in this class, professor wieck isn't stopping you. He's a great violin player and has a great love for music. If you dont' do well on tests, just attend some concerts and you can get lots of points, also gives points for attendance
i found anatole very interesting and amusing! plus.. the accent was fun!
This class was real good I enjoyed it. Very Easy class just some extra credit here or there and the exams arent to bad its an easy A. Plus he played Devil went down to georgia at the end which was badass! Hes very talented knows his music
This is an easy A. He is hard to understand at times, but if you study from the study guide and attend the extra credit concerts, it is a piece of cake. He is very funny and also quite talented with his violin playing. THUMBS UP!! I recommend it!
Professor Wieck is wonderful! And can he play the violin! A great class! A must take at UMaine.
Very easy class. Extra Credit gives you an A. He's hard to understand at times, but is very nice and helpful.
great professor - interesting, fun online class, do the review sheets and take notes. I found his class to be one the most interesting and fun for meeting a GE requirement.
Tests are easy, but if you do attend lectures, don't talk through the whole thing!!!! It's very distracting. You really don't need to do the extra credit to get an A. Devil Went Down to Georgia was AWESOME!
very boring class. not sure how i made it through or if i even did cuz finals are in a month but, yeah i guess it does cover a gen. ed.
Deff. an easy A. His accent is adorable, hard to understand for some tho.
Did not like this class!! Boring and tests were kind of hard.
Don't attend class, Show up for exams, Go to a few concerts, Get an A, Professor seemed to be very knowledgeable.
Super easy class. Definitely take it if you want an easy A. He's an interesting person, although its pointless going to class. You can get all the material you need from the book..and if you fail the exams, go to a couple concerts, write some short essays and you will still come out with an A!
The tests themselves were complicated and not well put together. While you "could" get up to 75 points total extra credit, you shouldnt have to in order to do well in a hundred level class. Much of the examination was multiple choice with similiar answers, so its not quite as "easy" as people say
Inspiring teacher with a comical and cheerful personality, interesting material, easy A.. just go to a few concerts to make sure.
Anatole was the man! I only wish that i'd taken the course live. He is enthusiastic, energetic, very clear, very cool. TONS of extra credit. Really easy A. I thought the class would be boring, and it was actually really cool! I recomend it highly.
Took it online. Didn't like it, because it was a little too much work for an elective. Just be sure you study for his exams.
Anatole is a very nice teacher. However the exam procedure is a JOKE. Not only is there information on the exam that is NOT on the study guide, but it might as well be a GROUP exam because everyone blatently cheats and the TAs and Anatole do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prevent it. Make sure you study A LOT, do tons of extra credit, and HIDE YOUR ANSWERS!
The online class was great. I can't speak for those in the lecture hall.
Easiest class Ive ever taken. Wieck is the man.
Easy online class, never once spoke to the professor, easy A, no homework just tests
I took the lecture with him. He is a wonderful human being and its a decent class. Make sure you take advantage of the extra credit concerts because they can help your grade a TON.
Just took this class online, it wasn't as easy as I thought, but if you do extra credits, you will be fine, I have over 11 points add up for the final grade just from extra credits, so you don't have to study too much if you do extra credits.
Incredibly easy. I went to class, but I certainly didn't have to. I literally studied for the final an hour before it started and I got a A. Dr. Wieck is a good guy and loves music. Lots of extra credit, do them, it helps if you're in the B-C range.
(History of R&R) This class rocked (no pun intended). Online course, weekly quizzes and assignments that took about an hour tops. Four exams, multiple choice. So easy. My only problem with this class was the fact that its difficulty was that of a 100 level. I was expecting more of a challenge. Either way, you will learn interesting things about roc
Took the online class. Professor does an excellent job making the class interesting. Don't expect to glide by with an easy A, but as long as you pay attention to the lessons they are presented very much in line with the exams and you can expect a decent grade with a little effort. Highly suggested.
This class was definitely the easiest class I have taken so far. Not really a challenge. Go to class and take notes. Make sure you learn the listening parts of the test. The book comes with CD's to help. They are useful.
Don't let the name of the course fool you DONT TAKE IT!! !! Tests are hard lectures are unbearable and you cant understand what the guy is saying
Very nice guy and tries to make the lectures interesting. Pretty easy class, just doesn't seem very useful in life
Such a nice man! I enjoyed the class overall. The tests were harder than I thought but I really enjoyed it . A class about rock and roll ? how can you go wrong!?
Horrible teacher, doesn't even speak clear english. All you do all class is watch youtube videos that he rambles on about for an hour and 15 minutes. Class was so boring. Don't take class
If you do your work, like most 100 level courses, then this course is NOT difficult. Weick is engaging and passionate about what he teaches. Youtube videos are uses to enhance the materials frequently, a great addition. Despite what some say he isn't hard to understand at all. I think some people just don't like he because he is foreign. Grow up!
Wieck knows his stuff but embodies an excellent example of how even if you love something to death, making it your life's work can suck the passion right out of you.
Best professor I ever had!! He does a great job making lectures interesting, but still informative. Highly recommend this class!
Pretty easy class, tests are a lot easier if you attend
Super easy, and very interesting class. It was oddly refreshing to take a music history class as a senior year engineering student. Tests are very similar to old tests, which are posted online. You will learn a lot about things you think you already know a lot about. If you're not artistically inclined and need a fine arts credit, look no further!
Anatole is such a rare person to have as a professor. No matter what he is always there for you and he always tries his hardest to make his students' experiences with him as enjoyable as he can. He is the most passionate teacher I have ever had; he loves everything about what he does and he spreads this to his students. An incredible person.
He is such a talented person, and his passion for his subject translates into his lectures. He has lots of real life experiances that make him able to explain not just the information but also the history and art behind the music; he tries to get you to look past the academic. Also, he is very kind and willing to answer any questions you have.
I recommend going on Yik Yak during this class, as it became the place to discuss what we thought was possibly happening. His lectures don't make very much sense, in part due to his thick accent. However, he's a wonderful man and is very willing to help students who ask for it.
Anything that could help you boost your gpa, its this class. The online class is very very straight forward and even though Anatole has a hard accent, for the most part he is easy to understand. Expect the lecture videos to be at least 40+ mins each but if you take basic notes, you'll pass the exams. The music is music we've heard as kids.
So incredibly nice and funny! Attendance isn't necessary but it can definitely boost your grade! Exams are basically made up of the iclicker questions that he has at the end of classes so as long as your remember those you're good to go! I wouldn't even bother buying the textbook btw
This was quite literally the worst class I have ever taken. You can tell he cares and is very knowledgeable of the subject, but his style is outdated. He requires you to buy a $35 clicker, but you don't get credit for attendance. His lectures are boring, and very disorganized (no slides, just random examples). I should've taken a different gen ed.
Anatole has a true passion for music, and this has a way of emanating throughout the class. He made me appreciate and enjoy a topic I thought I disliked, and he made the class fairly interesting. Easy A if you pay attention in class.
Great guy, really passionate about the music. Its a lot of the music weve all heard before but couldnt put a name to. Notes and the textbook arent really necessary, just pay attention as most exam questions are taken straight from the clicker questions. Had a B test average, but he bumped the overall grade to an A.
This is a great class to take for a music credit. There are only 4 exams the whole semester and he helps you prepare for those exams using clicker questions at the end of each lecture. This is also how attendance is taken so you cannot miss class. This is the easiest class to get an A in if you just show up to class.
Pretty easy to get through. It's pretty low effort to pass, takes more to do well. You know what's going to be on the tests and he scales your lowest scoring test to 7%. The remaining 3 are 31% of your grade. The topic seems bland if you aren't into music, but you'll be able to recognize most of the songs. It was quite interesting, in retrospect.
Pretty easy class. 4 exams which are really easy to study for. Each exam has 25 questions of regular questions and 25 in which you listen to music and pinpoint certain aspects of each song. Lectures are a bit dry, clicker questions help a lot though. Definitely take the class if you need an art gen ed or are into music.
I took this course for the winter three weeks session. While working for six days straight I completed the course with an A. There are 24 lessons, each with one easy quiz attached. The reading was easy as well as the lectures(put on the closed caption when watching). Four exams (3 worth 31% of grade and lowest worth 7%). Easy A as long as you work.
You get grades pretty much just on the exams but they arent hard. Just listen to the examples he shares and learn the terminology and youre set.
The Exams are really hard you cant obtain information well by listening to music. There is a part of the exam where you have to listen to music and specify certain things about it and its really hard because there is so many questions about that.
Challenging class, but not the worst I have ever taken
Very boring prerecorded lectures but everything was pretty easy. No lockdown browser for tests or quizzes so Quizlet and Shazam make this class a joke.
As others have said, ridiculously easy class, especially if online. 10 attempts on quizzes might make it too easy.
Long lectures, but I found them super interesting. As others have said, it's a pretty easy course. Great for the general education art requirement. Sometimes it's difficult to tell what bits of information are important enough to be on quizzes/exams, but 10 chances per quiz mean there's room for trial and error. It was an enjoyable course.
This class was so ridiculously easy. Grade is 20% lesson quizzes (10 attempts) and 4 exams (1 attempt, 25% each except for the lowest which is 5%). I didn't watch the lectures or read the textbook and I still got an A to give some context as to how easy it was. There's also extra credit available if you go to concerts.
This guy might be hands down the best professor. This class is also extremely easy if you listen to lectures and do the homework, there are extra credit assignments that are enjoyable for a break on the weekends. Throughout this course this guy will tell stories about his life. He is hands down the funniest and sweetest professors out there.
