Do not take unless you love very detailed essay tests, which most of the time you will run out of time with. Sometimes hard to understand with language differances. Unfair most of the time. I will never take her again!
This class was one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. I genuinely enjoyed the material. However she only gives 4 tests and they are difficult, mostly essay questions with 20 multiple choice I found it difficult to get an A, and instead got a B+. She offers no extra credit and you must attend every class to pass it.
Dr. Turcu's Comparative Politics class was one of the most interesting classes I have taken at UCF! There are 3 exams, the final is optional, which entail multiple choice, short answers & essays which I did not find difficult.. the material is straight forward and if you understand it, there should be no problem when writing for the tests!
I've taken her face to face and she is a good teacher. She generally tells you what is expected. I took an online class from her over the summer. It was straightforward. I enjoyed the class. If you stay on top of your work, you should have no problems in her class
She is a horrible teacher do NOT take her online!!!! She is a very difficult grader for essays. It will be very hard to get an A in her class. She requires you to write 8 essays for the summer class and only grades 2. Quizzes are long, but fairly easy.
Most interesting lectures I have ever taken. Her tests are difficult but fair. She is very strait forward on what she expects in her essay questions and you have to deliver. If you take her do NOT miss a class. Tests are based mostly on lectures. You will not fall asleep in her class.
She doesn't care about the success of her students. She's brutal. She brought my entire GPA down, I'm an B student and Made a D- in her class. She doesn't care if you pass or fail. Lectures were amazing and so interesting, but she just doesn't care if you do well. Not a true "teacher". Real teachers want their students to succeed.
Take her online. Keep up with readings and weekly quizzes. The essays arent hard if you read the material and youll do well. Its not rocket science.
Dr. Turcu is a great CPO professor. For all the students with the bad comments, you obviously did not study. News flash, you are in a university, not elementary school. The tests for this class were pretty tough, but if you read all the required work and study your notes, your good to go. She is always willing and discuss issues after class.
Her quizzes are difficult, I took her online and the majority of the work is based on the reading. Papers are due bi-weekly along with quizzes that are 40 questions long multiple choice.
took this online. awesome class, favorite subject. learned a lot. lots of reading and timed quizes ever week. various essays regarding immigration. If you like the topic, you will LOVE the class. she is very easy to reach via email. always willing to help and very knowledgeable. Needless to say got an A. taking a 2nd class from her now.
One of my favorite professors so far. She's an entertaining lecturer and she does a really good job of explaining the material. Her tests are not challenging at all. If you pay attention during lecture, understand the material, and ask questions if you have any, you'll do fine and learn a lot. I'm taking more classes with her. Highly recommend!
Took this course online. There is about 12 modules consisting of either quizzes or short essay and she drops your lowest module. There is also a final project due in the last month. I have an A and she is highly recommended.
I have taken classes with Dr. Turcu before and I will do so again. She's an amazing lecturer who knows how to keep her class interested in what she's saying. Her exams are easy and straightforward if you go to class, take detailed notes, and read the assigned chapters. I learned a lot from her. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Turcu is a great professor although, Politics of the Middle East covers WAY too much information. I regret taking the course because it ruined my GPA! Even though I attended every class and took great notes, I still ended up with a C! Unless you have a great deal of time to spend studying solely for this course, I would not recommend it!
I have taken Professor Turcu for three other courses. This was by far the worst. A very convoluted lesson plan along with, lack of teaching, and a ridiculous expectation for a work load makes this easily one of the worst classes and professors I have had during my college career. 2-3 chapters, 3-6 articles, and 1-2 documentaries a week. Avoid.
Dr. Turcu is one of my favorite professors at UCF and this is the third class that I have taken with her. As is the case with all of her classes, I learned a lot and was grateful to have taken the class. She is helpful and willing to work with students to help them understand the material. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and I highly recommend her.
Politics of Developing Areas was a simple, straightforward class. The concepts were easy to understand, and the class was structured in a logical way. The quizzes and written assignments were not difficult to successfully complete. My one complaint is that she only recorded a few lectures for the class, and mostly just had the class read the book.
This class in not too hard but you definitely have t read and study what you read before taking the weekly quizzes. there is a final paper that's not too tough, and she is very helpful when you have questions or concerns. make sure you read and take notes!!
25 question quizzes in 25 minutes, if you take the class just make sure you don't ever need to re-read questions to understand them. She expects you to submerge yourself in this course like a religion.
This course was not easy but you will learn A LOT. She grades with the +/- system. If I had known that going in I would have probably reconsidered taking the class. A teacher who is passionate about what she is teaching but makes you work for your grade. 25 questions in 25 minutes and a final paper. If you can write, you will do decent
Those 25 minute 25 questions are awful , no matter how hard you studied all the material. If your a bad test taker, get nervous, have to re-read questions and answers, or blank out when you see a question don't take this class. I even had a quiz have two questions with two of the same answers. Makes me wonder if I have been answering correctly.
I have taken her for 3 classes besides immigration policy I also took politics of eastern Europe and of developing areas. I enjoy her in class more than online. Her classes can be long with tedious note taking but you really learn stuff in her class. She is open to questions and will always help you understand. Just never pull out your phone.
Doesn't give you enough time to take the quizzes and do well.
Dr. Turcu is an amazing lecturer. I have taken her for 3 political science classes at UCF and have enjoyed every single one. Her grading is clear and she tells you exactly what to expect. Tests aren't hard as long as you go to class and take notes. Not an easy A, but definitely attainable as long as you go to class and read.
This teacher literally taught comparative politics in the completely wrong manner. I got A's on all the tests and then a 60 on the final paper because of her directions were such garbage. Worst professor I have ever taken at UCF. I would ask for clarity and emails would go unanswered. Do not take this class.
Worst professor at UCF. She's not helpful at all. Do not take this class with her if you have any other option. I love comparative politics but take it with someone else.
Anca Turcu was a great professor to have. Online classes are somewhat difficult to navigate, but her expectations were managed and clear. She was available to help, and her responses were quick. If you do not read the assigned material, you will not pass. The readings were not hard and she only assigned one chapter each module.
I had one of the worst experiences ever with this professor. seriously stay away from this lady. her teaching techniques are off, makes you read a large chapter and then take a 10 questions quiz in 10 minutes(you will feel like you read a different ch because the questions are so irrelevant), gave me a 10/100 on my final paper. Stay away!
This class was online and I found it to be quite difficult. I would read everything necessary but the quiz questions are so extremely specific and the time limit gets you every time. The novel is decent but the textbook is very dry and dull, which makes it harder to memorize all the details you'll need to know for the weekly quizzes.
Dr. Turcu is fantastic! She assigns readings that are more than manageable with a quiz following each. I have never had to study for her class- take your time on the readings, take the quiz immediately and you will do well. She is more than willing to do what she can to ensure her students do well. If you aren't willing to try, don't expect much.
Prof Turcu is awesome. Do the readings, take the quizzes, show you care and you will do well. The class material is eye-opening and taught in a way that encourages you to question what you knew, without bringing political bias into it. She is smart and one of the best online prof! This marks class 3 with her. Two this semester, 1 last, 1 next,
I took this class online and it was fairly straightforward. You read through a text book over the course of the semester, one to two chapters at a time, and take quizzes on them on a weekly basis. There is also a book you read and some online articles and videos. Was fairly easy and learned a lot, though it didn't blow my mind - maybe b/c online?
Class #4 with Dr. Turcu. She is fantastic! I would highly recommend her to anyone! At the end of my two years with UCF and my Bachelor's I will have spent 5 classes with her. She is very smart and straightforward, while still being understanding of the demands of other classes. Assignments were never too much, and grading is extremely fair.
Dr. Turcu may know her subject, but she was not the best at teaching it. She ask's for specifics but doesn't allow you the resources to provide those specifics. She is also not a fan of quotations! Gives written responses &/or multiple choice test which is nice, but you have max 600 words to answer 4-5 questions &/or 10 min on tests (not enough!)
I took her online so I don't know how she is in person, but let me tell you she gives waaay too much work. For each module there's about 2 to 4 chapters plus 2-3 documentaries, but the worse thing is she only gives you 25 minutes for a quiz. 25 minutes for 25 extremely detail specific questions is not enough time by any standards. Ebook necessary.
This is a typical online course. Every week you have assigned readings and every week you have a test. Some weeks you have an option to take the test or written assignment. There's a final paper that's pretty easy compared to other papers. If you pay attention all semester you'll be fine. The information in this class is a real eye opener.
Prof Turcu seems a little hands-off. I've taken her twice (Politics isn't my major, just an interest) and she lectures the same things, the same way. Uninvolved and not so helpful with students. If you're a Political Thinker, this is the class for you. If not, don't take it.
If you actually pay attention and try, you will pass the class. I got A's and B's on every quiz and written assignment. I read carefully, read the extra reading she assigned, and watched any videos she assigns. I follow the instructions on final paper, answering all of the questions. I still got a D causing my grade to drop down to a B.
easily the best prof ive had at UCF. took middle eastern politics with her, she really knows politics. her tests are hard but she literally gives you anything and everything you need to get the A. just copy the power point and take notes on what she says in between. gives a study guide for every test. small class, class was so interesting!!!
This class was one that I looked forward to. She grades very clearly and on time, her classes are interesting and I really do feel like I learned something with her as my professor. Her passion for the subject shows and I love that!
I've taken two courses with Professor Turcu and I love her. In both classes she offers you a weekly quiz (20 questions at 20 minutes) or written assignment (Questions 1-5, roughly 650 words) . If you take a rough draft of your written assignment she will guide you to an A. She's always willing to help and is very responsive through email. Take her!
took poli of developing areas online, every week you have the option of taking a quiz or a short writing assignment. 1 chapter a week with a few articles, sometimes a documentary, and a ppt. quiz is 20 q's in 20 mins. Final was an essay, 8 questions, each question was around 200 words, gives u 2 weeks to complete. Interesting class, learned a lot!
Hardest online quizzes I've ever taken. 20 questions, 20 minutes. Questions are not straight forward either. Very tough grader on writing assignments as well.
RUN! IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE, Quiz is 20 minutes, 20 questions, some questions are not clear and at times don't have a correct answer. . The writing assignments are so her opinion. The final is a paper that is 30% of your grade. long books, video long, power point long, this class should not be this hard. I barely passed but was stressed to the max!
Not even doing the homework can help you.
About 3-4 45 minute documentaries, the chapter reading, and her presentation each week. Her grading is very inconsistent and unforgiving. She'll remove massive amounts of points for "faulty" answers, but won't clarify where you went wrong or what to change. I spent about 8 hours on this class every week and barely escaped with a B. Stay away.
Do not take this class unless you have a lot of time on your hands. She only lets you submit written assignments with 650 words and then grades you down because you weren't specific enough even tho! you ended up having to go over the limit (which will loose you points)! So you don't have a lot of room to expand and will take off points for not #ing
Took Professor Turcu's Eastern Politics class and thought that it was a really solid online class. Each week there was an option between a 20 question 20 minute quiz or a 3 question writing assignment that usually had to be between 400-600 words. Only complaint is that it can at times be tricky to give enough detail due to word limit.
While the information I got from both of her classes was interesting, it is a VERY heavy workload in order to do well on her quizzes or papers. I have other classes as well, but I spend the majority of my time on her class. But if you ask her questions, she will respond, and if you work hard, it is possible to pass. Budget your time very wisely.
Her class is boring and could be hard, but if you read the materials and study for the quizzes you will do fine. Especially because the quizzes are so fast and difficult, you have to know the stuff.
You can't win. Text is 1600 pgs & she expects you to memorize it for the weekly quiz. OR, you could do essays instead, but they are never detailed enough & she takes off 10 pts for going over or under req'd word count. IF your answers ARE good enough, then your English isn't, -10. Make sure you DO & DON'T number your answers, either way its -10.
Easy rule to assure passing: Blame the USA for everything. Turcu hates the USA and class is all about making sure you know the USA caused all the problems. Agree or fail, your choice. If you don't follow her detailed instructions, she'll mark you down. If you DO follow her instructions, she'll mark you down. Blame the USA, and it's an easy B.
Instructions are contradictory and impossible to follow, so you lose points no matter what you do. Weekly tests demand memorization of a large boring textbook & added sources. Turcu rules. There is no discussion of anything. 30% of your grade is a final paper which is graded so harshly that "A+" students end up with a "B" or "C".
The class is NOT meant to be an easy A. You will have to read and study every module carefully in order to be successful on the weekly assignment and final paper. If you are willing to put in the time and effort into the class, you will learn a lot of things about the subject.
Prof. Turcu makes up her own condescending rules that contradict each other, making them impossible to follow. You will never please her, and she will never hear you out. Her class offers excellent material, based on an extremely inappropriate and biased textbook. She would prefer their answers (sometimes wrong) over the truth, and admits it.
This is my third class I've taken with Dr. Turcu. I have never had an issue with her teaching style or assignment rubric. If you ask, she will clarify. If you read, you will be able to fulfill the required assignments. There's a lot of work, to be sure. But I still really enjoyed it, even if it was difficult.
I loved Dr. Turcu's class. The assigned reading and other material was always interesting, and she always responded immediately to e-mails concerning clarification of reading or assignments. It is quite a bit of reading, so make sure you read thoroughly and understand it (and ask if you don't!). I would definitely take her again.
THE. WORST. PROFESSOR. AT. UCF. RUN do not walk from her classes. Grades however she wants not based on assignment criteria. Grades each student differently. If you try and contest your grade and ask her questions she will say you are bullying her. Absolutely HORRIBLE. THE WORST. Run away FAST! DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE OF HERS. SAVE YOURSELF!
Some of you here are way too tough on Dr. Turcu. This is my third class with her and she has been one of my favorites at UCF. Each week you have a choice between a quiz or a written assignment, usually between 400-600 words and a final paper. She drops your two lowest assignments as well. No midterm or final.
She is an awful professor. The videos she posts are useless and sometimes contain wrong information. She acts as if she cares about you but in reality she doesn't. I would not recommend this class with her to anyone. Also, don't try to bring her information that goes against her linked because she will just say you are wrong. Also a bad grader.
Dr. Turcu's courses have interesting content but you can't pass the writing assignments with more than an 81%. The quizzes have an high of 80%, and even when I'm confident I end up with a 75% on them. I've heard she's awesome in person to take. NO TO ONLINE, DO NOT DO IT. TOO MUCH WORK, GRADING MAKES ZERO SENSE. Not enough time on quizzes!
Politics of Developing Worlds is supposed to be an interesting class and it is, but Dr. Turcu's grading makes zero sense. She makes you watch like 4 videos and read a chapter then when you're quizzing the answers don't align with the reading. She's also really biased as a professor (from someone who agrees with her views). No to online with her!
Unless you are only taking this class and JUST this class do it. Hard class not because of the subject but because of the amount of stuffs she makes you read. No one has said it but quizes are about chapters which is usually between 13 pages or more, ppp (20-30 slides) usually 2-3 videos of (50 min) 20 min for 20 questions so think TWICE.
Dr. Turcu is great. Ive taken her four times now I cant take any more of her classes, because Ive done them all! Shes very helpful on her feedback, and the papers are quite simple once you get the hang of them. She gives plenty of supplemental study information too. Theres no reason why you cant do well!
The book is long, detailed, and tough to get through. Don't leave the reading till last minute. 20-30 pages on average per week, sometimes more. No lecture, everything is dependent on your reading and the powerpoint. weekly writing assignments or quiz, you choose which you want to do. Mandatory final paper. Very responsive to emails and questions.
Each week you have the choice between a quiz or a written assignment. Quizzes are 20 questions 20 minutes and you need a near photogenic memory. Seemingly it seems that her grading criteria on written assignment change based on her mood. Even when asked an opinion based question it seems that if you don't agree with her you'll get points off
When submitting papers many of the comments are "needs to be more developed", which truly isn't helpful. Marks off for small details, such as, "too much elaboration". Asked for studying tips and was told "you just need to understand the material".
Horrible teacher. Literally the WORST teacher I have ever had. I have no idea how someone like this is even an educator. Her course taught me one thing: NEVER TAKE HER FOR ANYTHING AGAIN!!!
Taking the online course is very difficult. The quizzes are very specific. Feedback and commentary on written assignments are very vague. Professor can be very short with you and the order of assignments are all over the place. I do not recommend this professor at all. With hard core studying and doing well on the classes you MAY get a B.
Turcu is a nice person, but the book and class is awful. There are 12 quizzes; 20 questions, 20 minutes. No makeups, no late work, no feedback. The final paper is 2000 words long, and is based off convoluted material. Very nitpicky over grammar, and never directly answers questions you email her. This class made me change my minor it was that bad
Professor Turcu, the only classes I received less than an A. Worst teacher. Don't dare ask her a question you'll be met with sarcasm, criticism and an attempt to make you feel incompetent. Over critical nit picks. 20 question 20 min quiz from 2 chapters two books, PowerPoint and videos. Class was a joke designed for failure. Impossible to get an A
Prof Turcu is a solid choice for Immigration Policy. Her quizzes aren't difficult but she doesn't give you a lot of time so make sure to read everything. She drops two of the 12 module grades and then gives a 30% final paper. She also gives you the option for most of the modules to do a written assignment or quiz.
This class was extremely difficult. Professor Turcu was very hard to get through. Her quizzes were always worded weirdly and they didn't make sense. Whenever you email her she never answers your questions as if she couldn't comprehend what you were saying. She SUCKS! don't take her class unless you're trying to stress yourself out.
I'm not sure why she has such terrible reviews. If you do your work, you will get a good grade. She provides you with a narrarated powerpoint that summarizes the textbook, required readings, additional readings in case you need more, and a video at the beginning of the module. It's hard, but you had to try. If you need help, she will help you.
Don't listen to any of the reviews saying that it's impossible to get an A in any of her classes. I've had her for Middle East, Eastern Europe and Developing Areas and EARNED an A in all 3. She is a tough grader and can nitpick at times, but it is possible to do well if you stay on topic for the writing assignments. I loved Dr. Turcu!
Choosing between written assmt and quizzes each week is nice, along with the 2 lowest grades dropped. Def not worth it tho, Your grade will be based on the type of day shes having. 20 Q quiz with 20 minute time limit, based on multiple chapters of textbook. Wont pass quizzes unless you have photo memory. 3rd yr, A/ high B student, I BARELY PASSED
Dr. Turcu is very accessible and thorough. The class has a weekly quiz or writing assignment, and a few get dropped. At the end there is a paper that is easy enough. For the quizzes, she provides articles, videos, ppt, and readings. If you do all those you can surely get an A. If not, a B is definitely securable. I have taken her again.
I have never had a worse professor. The quizzes were ridiculous. 20 min for a 20 question quiz which the questions were sooooo specific and not easy to study for. She takes forever to email back. She copy and paste every all her assignments word for word every class, even the typos. She doesnt teach and God forbid you have a dif opinion.
People don't like Dr. Turcu for one simple reason: she doesn't make her classes easy As. I got an A in my first class with her, B+ in the second. Hard, but rewarding! The main problem is that people never ask for help until it's too late (and the prof. has no idea who you are). LOVED her - she will always be one of my favorite UCF professors!
She is the toughest grader I've seen to the point is absurd. 10 points off if she does not like a source no matter how credible it is.
I sincerely believe that this was my hardest class I've taken at UCF, strictly because of the outlandish strict policies she has and how unhelpful she can be. She doesn't care for her students, and only wants things done her way. BEWARE, she does not take any covid issues into account with anything. a literal nightmare, choose a different professor
Beyond Politics of the Middle East, don't take her. Lots of ridiculous work which will just pointlessly devour your time. Not worth it, find another professor. Her class is just not worth the pain and effort.
If you could avoid taking a class with Dr. Turcu, do it. While her words say shes here for her students, she is not. Unrealistic grading standards on papers and ill timed quizzes make up her class. I am all for earning your grade, however the stress of trying to please this unrealistic professor outweighs actually learning anything from the class.
Grades the absolute hell out of everything. Also, will knock your grade down for not including answers that she didn't ask for in the essay questions. She nitpicks every written assignment to a point where it's ridiculous, and gives 20 minutes to complete 20 question quizzes when the material for the week was 150 pages of reading.
Professor Turcu is a very attentive and caring teacher. She makes sure she goes over her material over and over again so all the instructions are clear to her students. Class is very well organized. She gives great feedback and keeps the modules interesting! I have taken 3 of her online classes so far and I loved them.
Very tough grader on written assignments, quizzes are timed 20 minutes for 20 questions.
I'm an A/B student and I would not recommend this prof to anyone. The grading is really harsh which makes it exasperating to even make a C on an assignment. I took her as a last resort and I should've just dropped it when I had the chance or at least listened to the previous students who said not to take this prof.
if you want to teach your self take this teacher her entire class is just 10 quizzes or 10 writing assignments and a paper, there is no lecture and you won't know your grade average until class is over. if there was a grade lower than an F I would give it to this teacher for their lack of effort.
She is the worst professor I have ever had, she grades ridiculously harshly and will take letter grades off papers for small errors like needing to elaborate more on a certain topic. She doesn't put any effort into teaching, and is vague with her instructions & rubric and will deduct points from you for it. She also gives bad/unproductive feedback.
DO NOT TAKE DR. TURCU'S ONLINE CLASSES Your grade is not calculated in Canvas. I have never experienced anything like this in 3 years of going to college online. You will NEVER have an accurate grade calculation and all you're given is a final grade formula. She also grades papers very harshly. My Final Paper with 17 unique and cited sources 55%
Dr. Turcu gets a really bad rep- I had her this semester for CPO3404 and CPO3614 and yes the reviews about her being a tough grader are true, but she isn't a partial/unfair grader. Reach out to her and ask questions- she is really happy to answer questions and help make students understand the content. Don't knock her til you've put in the effort
Locked grades all quarter. No idea where we stand. Poor communication Not friendly to work with.
I was intimidated when I read these comments before taking her class. Here is the thing, her expectations are high but if you do the work you will do well. She is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject. So if you're interested on the subject you will enjoy her class.
I had her for Politics in the Middle East and it was completely online. We had a quiz every week based on textbook reading, lecture videos, a PowerPoint, and news articles. The quizzes were difficult initially, and she gives a choice between a multiple choice and written assignment. The final paper is 30% of your grade but isn't super difficult.
Dr Turcu does have a ton of knowledge of the subject she teaches. She doesnt give great feedback on papers and you will constantly be working on this class. On our final paper we were not allowed to use any material she had covered. I wouldnt take this class unless you have ample time each week to dedicate to her class.
Each week you can choose between written assignment or a quiz. I chose written assignment and I spent A LOT of time on them each week. Lots of reading and material but it is totally possible to do well if you put in the effort. She communicates super well and I found that my grades always reflected the amount of work I put in. Hard but interesting!
Overall phenomenal professor. I really enjoyed having her as she is extremely knowledgeable about the course. I would avoid taking Dr. Turcu if you do not do well with heavy lecture and independent reading classes. However, if you don't mind the course load and are an avid test taker, you will learn a great deal and come out a better student.
I would not recommend this professor, she's very critical of any essays plenty of reading, and will not show any compensation toward students' efforts. One of my worst online classes experiences.
You'll be reading 2 books at the same time, around 40 pages combined every week. Powerpoint information is very vague. Class content is outdated, our "current policies" were still talking about Trump. Quizzes are 20 questions and you are only given 20 minutes to answer them. Hardest class out of the 4 I took that semester. Final paper is 7 pages.
At first class was fine. Then came the final. 1800 words, 4 questions in a text entry, and you're only allowed to use her sources given in the class, whether it was powerpoint or assigned readings.Met the word count, turned in on time, no plaigarism used only her powerpoints, and cited FREQUENTLY. My final grade was a 50/100. Not worth the stress.
I have taken Dr. Turcu 3 times and I wish I could have taken her more. Her expectations are set high but an A is 100% possible. You can pick between quiz or written assignment, but I always pick written assignments. You have to be willing to work in this class but the assignments and information is always interesting and worthwhile.
Enjoyed the curriculum of the class very much, but she was very strict and didn't offer great criticism in grading.
Tough grader and the final project has insanely specific criteria I ended up with a 50 after all of her little point deductions. only wants specific materials used spent entirely way too much money on the book, all the instructions are vague or just impossible to understand. Some of us have other classes to take and jobs to work.
The professor is awful, grading excessively hard, limiting sources, impossible niche final, grueling 40-question quizzes in 45 minutes, no time extension. Students regret taking this class; demoralizing and unfair teaching approach. Beware and avoid this professor at all costs!
She does have a lot of knowledge and the course content itself was interesting. Maybe she is better in person. But online, is the worst class I have EVER taken. HORRIBLE grader, this class teaches to be a mindless grade seeker and not a learned student.
Dr. Turcu is extremely knowledgeable about the topic. However, she is very much not helpful in giving us enough resources to succeed. She does not post any of the notes, lectures, or grades and it is very difficult to understand her lectures. Not very tech-savvy and I did not feel supported in this class.
She expects you to discuss complex topics in detail given whatever her grading criteria is BUT she deducts 5 points for every 10 words above her word count. This class isn't about measuring your knowledge of the subject matter, but figuring how to give a satisfactory (for her) summary of complex ideas for short essay questions in 600 words
Only three exams and no other assignments. A ton of information shared in lectures and little to no time for discussion or questions.
This class was the first time it was taught by the professor. The expectations of us were extreme, asking us to read 300+ pages in one week and watch hours of videos. The discussions had ridiculous standards. The quizzes were AWFUL (50% average). Please STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF! This barely scratches the surface of the awful class and professor.
Professor Turcu is very knowledgeable on the subject and once you get an idea of her expectations for written assignments it is not difficult to do well. Will definitely take again.
Professor Turcu is by far my favorite professor I have had at UCF. Her lectures are very informative, interesting, and directly represented in her examinations. If you pay attention in class, take decent notes, and use her review outlines there is no reason to stress. Follow her tips and I promise this class is less daunting than it seems.
Is incredibly nitpicky and does not clearly list out expectations. Expect to learn from textbook
She offers a quiz or** writing a short essay of 350-650 words at the end of the module. She has a final paper. Expect to spend at least 6 hours a week between reading, watching her powerpoints, etc. and that's being generous. 20 specific* questions for mod. quizzes, so pls read. Avoid prof. if you don't see yourself dedicating time to read.
Do the weekly quizzes, don't let her grade your writing. The final will tank your grade. I was the only person in my online class to get an A and that's because I cited every other sentence. Her grading isn't clear and she literally tells you it will change if she regrades it. Her powerpoints and videos suck. This is one of those professors.
Professor Turcu sets high expectations, but the course content is engaging. Though challenging, the assignments are worthwhile. Utilize unstuckstudy along with the textbook and class materials to stay on top of the workload.
I love this women
Professor Turcu's course is straight forward, she gives you the layout of the course & tells you what to expect. She gives the option to take a quiz OR complete the written assignment for the weekly homework. Lectures are great and the PowerPoints she provides lays out everything you need. The final is required to be written, overall not bad.
This class material is cool to learn, but god forbid you cannot make a class. You are just doomed at that point even if you take a classmates notes. She loads you with information, asks you to recall very specific things, and does not upload any of her PowerPoints that could be helpful. There are no assignments, just tests. These are not fun
One the worst professor you can ever take.
Do not take this class if you do not like reading! I will admit, Dr. Turcu is very knowledgeable and passionate about her work, but there was so much reading to do. Luckily, on the weekly assignments, you can either take a quiz or do a writing assignment, which was nice.
I've had her for many classes and I thought she was pretty good. I had her only in-person so thats all I can speak on. Listen in class, take a lot of notes, and study hard for exams you'll be set tbh. If you don't do those things you're cooked. She's tough but fair.
This was a very strict class when it did not need to be, it was poorly designed and did not leave room to fail and learn just to be judged which is not a good environment for anyone to be within. There was lectures quizes and notes but no real meaningful engagement. Avoid this if you can to safe yourself a wake of trouble..
Luckily a low workload, and rather simple. However, the grading system feels extremely arbitrary. One example being going weeks doing a specific format, but suddenly got points off for it. She'll blame it on you not thoroughly reading the syllabus, instead of her lack of effort as a professor and rarely giving substantial or consistent feedback.
She is not as bad as people make her out to be. She certainly is not that good either. Just beware that you might spend hours reading and studying only to still end up failing because of how difficult some assignments are. Unless she is your only option I suggest going with someone else.
I want to thank Google Notebook LM, because I would NOT have gotten as good a grade in this class without it. If you are like me and do the writing assignments each week, you can write to the word max and then get points off for "being too vague". Overall, if this were a required class for you like it was for me, good luck, soldier.
I put off this class for so long because of the reviews. She is a very tough grader. Quizzes or written assignments. You could be using a format for the whole semester and it'll be fine, and then she randomly takes points off. Cite after every sentence. The info in the PPs and chapters aren't even on the quizzes. Lockdown + camera for quizzes.
