class wasnt bad, make sure you come to class and be prepared to be enlightened. overall, you have to work hard in order to get a decent grade.
Andre Jensen is an amazing teacher. I attended class about only two-thirds of the time, and maintained an "A". He's very laid back, lenient (he let students turn in essays 3 weeks late with no deductions), and the midterm/final are VERY easy as he gives a page of about 10 questions, 6 of which will be on the test. I highly recommend him.
Great teacher! Very helpful, wants students to be interested and ask questions during lectures.
he is awesome. he chooses his text book because it is only $20. which is great because you use it ALOT! but he makes the authors who are VERY CONFUSING, very easy to understand. def recommend him
Jensen is a good teacher. He is funny and pretty understanding. He obviously cares about what he teaches and he makes seemingly uninteresting stuff interesting.
Great professor, he is easy to approach, gets students interested in lecture. He is very understanding and is there to take the time to explain. He enjoys his job....This is the definition of an instructor.
So very boring!!! He takes sign in attendence everyday. has study guides questions handed out and those help you little on the test. Lectures everyday are unclear. To get a good grade on the test you have to read the book and comprehend everything on your own....do not take if you actually want a college course, or an easy course
At first it was ok but it began to get very boring. The notes were all over the place. The book was long and hard to understand and you needed it to study. It is possible to get a good grade if you can stay awake long enough.
I took him for Logic & Reason. Smart guy who really knew his subject. He will work with you so that you excel. A+ Teacher. This is a guy you want to work with for a semester.
explains the material with supernova level illumination. leads the student through even dangerous reflection with the angelic grace and daemonic penetration.staggering genius.
This class is boring as HELL! Jensen is a nice guy, tries to be funny alot, but the subject matter is difficult and I had to spend alot of time in Jensen's office hours to pull off the A I received.
He absolutely loves Philosophy and it shows. I love a passionate teacher because it makes me want to learn the subject. Do not take his class early in the morning if you are not a morning person. I made this mistake. I would love to take his class again to improve my grade at a later date... at a later time in the day
Awesome Professor. An easy A. He is pretty funny.
Funny professor. It's obvious he's in love with what he teaches. I learned a lot from him! Although the semester starts out slow, it gets pretttyy interesting. He grades on a point system and drops your lowest paper. So get the points, get the A. Chill.
Super great professor. Very insightful and clear. Also, the books are cheap!
a great professor! really easy going and an easy A. just do 15/25 of homework assignments at 3 points and do really good on the first 2 test and you wont have to take the final. hes amazing
WOW!! ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR!! HE IS DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE! THIS GUY IS JUST WAY TOO FUNNY AND REALISTIC! I LOVE THE WAY HE LECTURES AND HOW HE GRADES!! VERY EASY AND APPRECIATIVE OF HIS STUDENTS! I FELL IN LOVE WITH PHILOSOPHY AFTER THIS CLASS.
Omg this guy is hella cool. i got F's in all my tests and gave me a D on my final grade. very nice teacher
Best teacher I have ever had. He makes the class super fun and he's really random and hilarious. If I could take another one of his classes next semester I would. There are homework assignments pretty much daily, but they are mainly just so you understand the subject. Tests are pretty easy as well. The bottom line is that Prof Jensen rocks!!!
Professor Jensen is awesome! His class is so interesting..not hard at all.The tests are a piece of cake(= Trust me..you'l leave that class with a B+ or better!!
Amazing professor, he's so helpful and if you ever need help or just want to strike up a conversation about anything he welcomes it. best professor i have ever had!!
Andre is hands down my favorite professor of all time. Unlike other classes where the professor has to fish for students to contribute, this class everyone contributed, everyone wanted to contribute. Andre is funny, insightful, and you wanted to engage into discussion with him. I felt I learned a lot and I had fun. Others should learn from him.
Andre is awesome. He's always so enthusiastic and funny, enjoys teaching his students. Easy to get an A in this class as long as you do most of the homework and get A's on the first 2 tests then you don't have to do the final.
Jensen is, at best, someone who is interested in Philosophy & probably read many books on it. But as far as TEACHING it.. no. In World Religions class, he seems to not understand many of the concepts taught in the textbook. Wonder if he ever considered changing textbooks? His class is easy though, but don't expect him to be "wise" or anything.
Interesting class, discussions. Jensen is awesome, funny guy. Took me two years to put up this review!
An amazing instructor! You do do a lot of book work but he makes it very interesting. He is a very entertaining instructor and helpful. He really cares that his students get the information and is always open to help. I would take another one of his classes for sure.
Overall good class. would recommend. Had world religions. Nice guy
class was okay.. his exams are textbook-based, so u absolutely need to read the text to get a good score on his exams. His lectures are awful though; he spends way too much time making jokes instead of actually teaching...
hilarious teacher..makes class worth attending and definitely reverses the stereotypical boring philosophy thinking. jensen = casanova of philosophy at sac city college
He's makes early classes easy to attend. I never felt like I was going to fall asleep. You HAVE to do your homework though. Most of his tests are pulled from notes and the short answer questions are from the homework. There is some light reading involved, but nothing unbearable (like 20-50pgs every wk-2wks). I would take him again.
Jensen is an awesome professor! His wife is very lucky, or he might say that he is lucky. I learned a lot in his class. Bring your books! Do all of your homework, easy points! Try to get an A on the 2 midterms because the final is much more difficult. He drops one major test so if you get an A on the first two, you have an A in the class.
Jensen is the nicest guy ever, he's a teddy bear. He's very approachable. His class is interesting and laid back and full of awesome corny jokes. I love this guy!
One of the great professor in SCC. A understanding professor who will help u n anyway ways to accomplish the class. U'll have 3 test if u pass 2 test with a good grade, you don't need to take the last, optional. Again, I recommend anyone who finishing their GE would take his class.
I was very interested in learning about different religions, but I didn't really get that out of this. He talks about maybe the major points of the religion but that's it. I was disapointed, he's nice and everything it was just a little boring. You don't need the World's Wisdom book at all, the other you'll use probably twice a week for hw.
So I took Professor Jensen and it was a cakewalk. There is a lot of homework. 20 homework assignments and the lowest 5 will be dropped. 5 tests including the final and the lowest one will be dropped. He tells a lot of stories and he likes it when you get involved. Sometimes he misses the class cause he easily get sick but still a very nice prof.
Prof. Jensen is one of the best philosophy professor around. His good humor makes the time past really fast and makes the class very enjoyable. He's really sweet and very approachable in office hours. There are four midterms and one final along with various homework assignments in which he drops lowest scores. Take him if you can! Fantastic class!
Professor Jensen is awesome. He is a really nice guy. For real. Do your work, read the books, do your study sheets, and you will be fine. No paper. He even curves. What else more do you expect more?
I highly recommend Jensen for Phil320 & 352. He's a very nice guy, and the class is very relaxing, little amount of homework. He let a girl bring in her baby to class for 1 day! (the baby was silent throughout the whole class). Very easy to get an A in this class. Just make sure you do your homework and read the textbook.
Mr. Jensen is an awesome teacher. Taking his class gave me a greater appreciation for philosophy. His tests aren't terribly difficult, and he allows one page of notes. That said, take good notes and you should do well in his class. He's also funny and loves ice cream.
He is a kind professor, his class is not hard. He will give four pages note for final, I highly recommended his class. He makes class more easier. His class is interesting.
Very nice professor. One of the most helpful I've had, he definitely cares about his students
He is an amazing teacher! I even took additional PHIL classes after my prerequisites were met because I wanted to be in more of his classes!!
Easiest A you could ever imagine. If you do well on his first two mid terms you don't have to take his final. Some extra credit opportunities worth a large chunk of points. He is easy to talk to and very polite. He does teach mostly from the book so his lectures can get stale. But it's worth it and it is an easy A.
Fantastic teacher, taught me a love for philosophy and world religion. If possible I would have taken additional classes with him; he englightened me to the ways of Buddhism and it has become my main religion of practice. Take him, he is not too difficult, granted there is homework, exams and quizzes, but tons of additional "extra credit" for you!
I really enjoyed going to his class because he always had funny stories to tell and it was cool because it related to what we were talking about. I got an A in the class even though I got two C's on the exams. I also didn't even take the final which was awesome. Didn't read the books much, near the end of the semester there's tons of extra credit!!
Typical teaching style with a flair of comedy and personal life stories to compliment the lecture. His lectures of easy to understand, and the exams are your basic mix of multiple choice, truefalse, and short-essay questions.
He is a great guy. He adds personal experiencesstories to the lectures to make them fun, hilarious and relate-able. He also gives tons of extra credit at the end of the semester. I went from a C to a B just with extra credit. And he gives 3 exams, but drops the lowest score - don't have to take final if you are satisfied with your grade.
Knowledgable and passionate in what he does. Take notes because he allows a 8x11 cheat sheet, front and back, on exams. Very easy A. Gives extra credit. If you do well on exams or are satisfied with grade, final is optional.
He's great! Easy class and very interesting. I think this class should be required as there are so many people that don't understand certain religions. He is very funny and his lectures are very interesting. He is very chill and offers extra credit. Also lots of videos. If you do well on the first 2 exams you don't have to take the final.
I miss professor Jenson! COOL PROFESSOR
Best professor since I started at SCC. I'm Biology/Premed major and thought that I will be wasting my time taking PHIL300. I was completely wrong. The class was very interesting and the professor engage the students in a multitude of subjects. After, I needed to take another GE and chose him for PHIL352 World Religions, did not regret it neither.
He's an amazing professor. Homework definitely helps you understand the coursework and the homework definitely corresponds with the test. One simple essay, but for the most part it was an easy simple class. Very interesting as well.
Super nice and genuine guy. He is really there for you and wants you to succeed. His lectures are very fun and he does a great job getting the material to the students. There is homework but takes only about an hour a week. Tests are not hard as long as you pay attention to lectures and study. Also he lets you use a full page of notes on test!
Prof Jensen is very down to earth. Loves what he does. He is easy to approach and understandable. Attendance is required which is an easy A. He gives study questions which will be the exact q's for essays on test. Allows 1 cheat sht on test n 3 for final. Give EC & only 2 exams, if you do well, dnt need to take final exam. 1 written papr 3pgs.
great professor
Easy professor, give great lecture about religion. There was homework, but it wasn't too bad, and his exams are super easy. He gives out extra credit. Very chill.
Professor Jensen is the man! You learn a lot about the religions in the world. Class usually consists of him lecturing and telling stories. Some days he puts videos for the class to watch. Homework consists of questions he gives that are easy and there are 2 exams that are not hard. He gives a lot of extra credit that will boost your grade.
Andre is one of the best at Sac City. He cares about his students and understands that you do have a life! Always interesting and I always want to go to class. He has three tests, a paper, and chapter homework that are not that hard. I love him and hope I can take him for another class.
Very nice professor. Took him for philosophy 300. This class was difficult because understanding philosophy was challenging. The class is essays and quizzes from the text book. Easy to get an A if u do a good job on the essays. Love professor Jensen!
Professor Jensen is the best professor I've had. He is hilarious and made me want to come to class. There is reading every night but he goes over what you read during class. I have nothing but respect for him and I highly recommend you take him!!!
One of the best professors to have. Jensen is extremely helpful and cares about his students. Will quiz you on the readings but lectures about them prior so it's easy to break down. Papers are short which is awesome !!! Overall he was a joy to be around. Highly reccomend
Jensen is one of the easiest professors at SCC. The only homework he gives are study questions for each chapter. You are assigned reading every night but he makes sure you understood it the next day during class. He drops your lowest test grade and the final is optional if you like your grade! AWESOME TEACHER.
Andre Jensen is a funny guy. His class is enjoyable and homework/tests are pretty easy. I think the best advice is do your reading and take your notes(it isn't overwhelming). He basically holds your hand through the class, so if you fail then that's you just being dead lazy.
Most awesome and caring "instructors" in sac city. If you want/need to take a philosophy class.. take Jensen! The class is clearly organized and he drops a lowest test score! If you don't pass one of his classes, that's all on you.
Professor Jenssen is a really good professor. I had a lot of problems because English is my second language so the readings were challenging for me because the old grammar. However, he helped and I started to attend to his office hours to clarify important points from the readings. The tests are challenging and he will focus in small details.
So glad I took Jensen! He is a great individual with a nice sense of humor and a caring soul. Jensen is all in it for his students. Philosophy was scary for me because I had a bad experience with a class prior to this one but he was very willing to simplify terms for us. Overall I hate philosophy but he made it not as bad as it could've been!
Professor Jensen is very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. He is a great philosophy professor and I would strongly recommend him. There are about 10 pages of reading due each class session with 5 study questions, he will only take your 20 highest homework scores. He is more than fair with his students and offers critiques on papers.
Professor Jensen tries to make class engaging and enjoyable. He is a good guy. Understandable and really wants his students to learn and pass. Tests are hard for overthinkers like me BUT you can still get an A. Final is an option. Scored a B and C on the first 2 tests, did all hw, got extra credit, and still got a low A. No late hw & attendance.
Very nice professor who is very funny. I dont like philosophy at all, but if youre going to take it then take it with Jensen. You wont regret it.
This class has three books total. Have an exam after complete reading a book. Books are very confusing but you will be fine. First exam is TAKE HOME EXAM. Second exam has T/F. Multiple choice. 3 Short essay. No extra credit. Miss a class you miss all the information which not good because he always give answers during lectures. HW due every days.
Andre is such an awesome, funny professor! He makes the class interesting with lots of jokes and anecdotes that relate to the material that helped me remember. You definitely need to read the textbook and take notes and do the study questions. Also offers extra credit assignments. Would definitely take a class taught by him again!
For PHIL300 we had 3 tests and reading assignments (3-6 questions) each class. He drops the lowest test score and 4 lowest reading assignments. He really helps you understand each reading by visually mapping out everything while also going into depth about each concept. A very personable and friendly professor who will understand and help you.
I took him for PHIL 300 in the Spring. He's a pretty easy-going guy. He likes to joke alot and he's really into Philosophy so you'll be very interested even if you never was. His class wasn't too hard. Easy A or B. There are a few books assigned with weekly questions you have to answer. He does offer extra-credit!
He's hilarious and has a lot of dark jokes up his sleeve and has pretty interesting lectures which makes it hard to not get involved. Homework was easy but the three readings were so dense it's so easy to get bored. He's a good on campus teacher but the transition online wasn't too great. It would take up to a week for a reply back.
Professor Jensen is a great guy, he is willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on almost anything and really cares. I took religion with him and I didn't like the class very much but he made it better. His assignments aren't hard at all and he drops the lowest test score so you can skip the final if your grade is high enough.
You read through three different books but there is never any lecture videos. It can be challenging to understand the reading. There are weekly assignments answering questions about the reading and occasional quizzes. I just didn't enjoy the course because of its content
Took him for spring '21 and honestly, one of the easiest class I took. 3 textbooks in total but all of them are provided by the professor or can be bought/rented if you want. Short answer document assignments every week and short quizzes every once in a while. TESTS HAS HEAVY PERCENTAGE but they're easy and open book. His assignments key to tests
This course was described as 'mostly self guided lectures'. That sounded great but wasn't reality. Really only a handful show up to zoom because the hour and a half consists of two or three people speaking, there's not much room for answering questions or any real discussion taking place. Assignments go pretty quickly, but are never graded.
I'll never forget Andre. He's so kind and probably the most understand prof. out there. His class was very enlightening, and we got to just hang out and talk about our readings over zoom. He's a super cool guy and if you're taking a lot of serious classes, this one is a good break.
Jensens' online PHIL300 class mostly consisted of reading the books and answering study questions. He provided his own written explanations of the reading which included most of the answers to the study questions. As long as you're reading his explanations and answering the study questions, the exams are straight forward and fairly easy.
Lectures are optional and more of a discussion, great explanations and really inclusive! Awesome Teacher :)
Great professor. Bad timing. Didnt get final essay graded until well after the semester was over. Group project wasnt officially graded either. Very enthusiastic & understanding. Aside from the stress of an unclear schedule & deadlines, I truly did enjoy learning with him. So much so,I ended keeping the textbook to better understand the material
Took this class back in 2021 over zoom, love this professor! There were two essays, a final presentation, and short writing/reading assignments before each class. The readings were dense, as expected for a philosophy class. Classes were more discussion based. Overall, he was super kind and seemed very real/honest. Made me think a lot about life.
most of the work is reading a few books and answering questions about them. Most questions included where in the text to find the answers, but some were really unclear. Exams have unpredictable content and not all the questions will relate to the book that the exam says. Assignments were posted a little late so it was a bit hard to keep track.
May 2, 2023 rating is accurate. Class was fine until last 2 weeks; graded papers, presentation, participation all 88%, dropping my perfect A to 89%. Despite discussing the grade after, it was unfair and disappointing. Got same grade as some who didn't attend or submitted late. Lost respect; teacher never lectured, only had us discuss readings.
Easy A, didnt learn anything. 1 assignment every week which you'll get full credit for either way, although the exams can be a little difficult. For written responses he would leave very broad feedback. Got an 89% and its as if he doesnt want his students to receive an A. He purposefully takes off points for no reason. Doesnt grade on time.
After the first four weeks of this class your basically on your own trying to understand text that was written when people still wore robes. Every week you have to turn in basically two essays with no clear direction or uploaded lectures to explain these extremely hard to understand writings.
2 essay length assignments per week. Assignments are often posted to Canvas less than 12 hours before the due date. Forced to flawlessly interpret translated text from 2000+ years ago with no outside sources. Papers worth 20% of grade; prompts use different names for concepts than the text uses. 5/30 class sessions were cancelled. Do not take!!!!!!
This course has been a mess, nothing has been graded since the first few weeks of class, and it is the final week now. There are 1-2 assignments weekly, a couple exams throughout the course, and a final paper. The readings are very difficult to understand. Professor Jensen is severely behind, who knows when our work will be graded.
This professor has not graded any assignments as of yet; 60% of the grade will be worth 2 tests and one essay. You get 2 weekly long lists of questions with readings. He wants you to read multiple readings, which can take hours; this class takes time to finish each assignment. Do not recommend to students who have multiple college classes!!!!
The grading material is very unclear at times, no rubrics posted, some instructions are told in person DAYS before the due date that's NOT mentioned on the assignment. Homework assignments posted 3/4 hours before their due. This class had me in constant anxiety for missing a random assignment, or an untold requirement. Awful wouldn't take again.
Had Andre for Philosophy 300. Lots of reading homework but it isn't too much. Homework is graded on completion and tests allowed cheat sheets. Lectures are entertaining.
