Very cool guy. He grades kinda hard but he gives extra credit.
Do not take this prof for Af. Amer. Lit. He is very boring and you don't learn anything in the class. Lots of writing assignments.
Andre is a very enthusiastic instructor. It's hard to be bored in his classroom. The class discussions are a riot. The format of the class is relatively challenging, but not excruciating (you have to know how to write a good, thoughtful paper).
spectacular teacher, a little impersonal one on one, but the class discussions are wonderful, and they teach a lot and are very in depth and helpful with understanding and gaining further knowledge from the text.
The grading was kind of hard but the class was OK, he is a nice guy to talk to if you have any problems.
I knew more about Literature than he did. An Awful class. He was cocky and boring.
Andre is a lot of fun and he's really understanding of problems that come up. He's not particularly hard, he just expects you to do what is necessary. Plus, if you're into the hippy intelectual type, you'll like him.
he is an idiot. he knew nothing of poetry and all he wanted to do was talk about sex. sex and beer. his main goal was not to teach but to try and look cool for his students. i hated him. but for an easy A, be my guest.
Reading assinments didn't always have a reason (such as critically looking at writing style) other than you had to write a paper on them. Can tend to slack off on things, like getting you back your last big paper before your next one was due.
good at interpreting literature. assigns a lot of papers, but is a fair grader. if you dont mind writing, take his class. hes fun.
Lackluster teacher. Great reading assignments. Way to many writing assignments. Very little inspiration from him. No in-class intro to assignments other than "you guys won't like this one." Very few actually did reading as a result of poor intro
alot of pointless assignments on readings that have nothing to do with what your doing in class... papers topics are kind of stupid. kind of a hard grader.. also he relates everything to sex and beer.
Excellent Teacher..This is a fun class but you have to be prepared to write. The papers are only 1 1/2 unless its a big paper. It's only 3 of those. He is a funny guy and interacts with the class well. Sometimes the topics don't seem to make since, but in the end he grades fairly. I highly recommend
A lot of pointless assignments that are easy to skip. Nice guy and understands when problems come and will work with you. Don't take this class unless you want to write a short paper for EVERY class.
Eh, fun but I wouldn't reccomend him for someone interested in english. Good to get the easy A in the required english course.
He understands his students very well. Lots of fun. He had lots of little papers nothing to hard could be done the night before they did make you think a bit but isnt that what college is for! all in all one of my favorite
Created a new appreciation for literature for me. He relates extremely well with the class. We had lots of fun. Those that say they didn't like the class are those who are lazy and didn't plan to do anything anyway!
I thought he was an over all good professor. If I had problems with the assignments I made it a point to talk to him about it. He kept the class fun and interesting. I'd definitely take another class of his.
this guys is always willing to help you. he is really outgoing.in highschool i would get C's in english..im getting over a 100%...if i can do this you can too. he gives a lot of pointless assignments but they are easy so just do them....
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS MAN!!!! He's gorgeous, funny, smart, down to earth, kinda scruffy - but it makes me love him even more. Wonderful wonderful teacher. wonderful person too. I love the class too. it's really easy - just do the assignments. 3 papers, all really easy. longest one is 5 pages....
Be sure to keep track of your grades... he may mess them up. Great teacher though.
I had this teacher last year and I still wish I could take him every english class I take. I loved him! He is a wonderful teacher, he made the papers fun and he was very helpful. The only thing though is that he messed my grade up, but he went back and changed it to the right grade. I got a b+..He is highly recommended, just keep up with your work
He's just cool. Makes a potentially boring class into something enjoyable and is always willing to help. For the cheaters under us: don't try, he'll catch you...just like some wise guy in my class.
African American lit class EXTREMELY BORING. Tests are comprised of 4 essays each containing approx 5 full questions relating toward 3 different stories. Two pages long and takes forever...2 essay tests, 7 quizes, 6 1.5 page response papers, and a 6 page paper. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT WANNA DO A CRAPLOAD OF WORK definatley worst class ever
This prof does the same thing in every class and it gets extremely redundant. There were lots of essays to write and the quizes were pointless. I got an A in the class
REALLY boring, lots of work. No fun. Cool guy but way too much reading/papers/dumb essay test.
Don't take african american lit. It is 10x boring than any other lit ive ever taken, lots of work infact more work than some of my major classes. Misery
If I told you I enjoyed waking up for this class, I would be lying.
DONT TAKE AFRICAN AMERICAN LIT FROM THIS GUY. ITS MISERABLE!!!!!!!!!!
Went into this expecting to be bored, etc, and I have to say the class didn't thrill me, but I learned a lot and the assignments were pretty straight forward, and nothing was really "difficult." He explains things well and tries to make it interesting. Throw him a bone and it won't be that bad.
Loved his class, loved him..great teacher, good homework assignments..he made it fun and interesting and he's one of my favorite professors at Eastern
very helpful and a fun person to be around.
He is So nice and very very funny. I recommed him greatly. He breaks down his papers so they are not all loaded on you, which is very helpful. You dont really need the MLA book though.
I'm sad to say this was one of the Worst classes I took at Eastern. I reccommend Heather Neff. Check her comments, you'll see why.
Easy to work with. Had a lot on my plate and helped me made sure I didn't fail. Really funny and had great fun in the class. Made the time go by really fast....may not learn to much about how to write the best college paper...but will have great fun in class.
Andre is so cool! His class is so easy, he gives lots of points so that if you dont do so hot on the papers, youll still pass the class. Hes really really helpful, funny, sarcastic, and his class is SO easy. Take it if you want an A
Andre is by far the most entertaining and useful professor I have ever encountered. Anyone who doesn't like him must have just encountered him on a bad day and held judgment based on that experience alone. Honestly, if you want a class where you can learn, enjoy the time invested, and make new friends on the teaching staff then this is the class
Great Professor. Don't listen to any bad things about him. He is down to earth, funny, laid back, and puts up with pretty much anything. You work on 3 or 4 papers all year, they are all easy ones, and you don't have to do anything in class except stare into his beautiful eyes and voila - A :)
good class
He was clear and I like to write, so it was a fairly easy A, but there were 20 papers total for the semester. Also, he has no discretion and spoke of whatever inappropriate topic that came to mind, which made class sometimes awkward, plus he flips students off and had us write about thongs. Very unprofessional on the whole...
He is such a fun teacher, and is easy if you do what your supposed to and attend class.
Peltier's the man. Yes, some off-color conversations happen in his class, but it's student-fueled too. He doesn't just flip people off though. You write on a broad spectrum of things, to get you out of your comfort zone, ie the story about thongs. Willing to work with you in pushing deadlines too. A very good professor.
Alot of reading and paper writing. But the papers are short and are fairly graded. Show up to class, read the literature, and participate in class discusions and you should have no problem in this class. He is a good proffesor, very funny and down to earth.
I hated this class. Our major assignment was making a Wikipedia page. Finding a topic was hard enough considering nearly EVERYTHING is on Wikipedia. He wasn't very helpful. I will NEVER take another class with him.
Great Professor and nice. Willing to go way out of his way to help students. Teaches you what you need to know in order to write properly formatted college research papers. Highly recommend!
I took this class thinking that it would be harder than my advanced comp class in high school. I was mistaken. This class does not require that much effort. I've gotten A's on everything I've turned in, and barely even tried. I love him as a professor, but some days I go to class and he just talks and talks about stuff I could care less about!
Really nice guy. Jokes around a lot in class but does some thorough, interesting literature analysis. Be prepared to take notes because the class is straight lecture. Quite a bit of reading, and he does quiz randomly on readings. Really fun class!
Great
Awesome class, awesome professor. He's very chill and down to earth, will talk about anything with anyone. He grades very appropriately, and will tell you exactly why you got what you got. I recommend him, and this class, to everyone.
Professor comes across as an aging hipster type, but his lectures are really thorough and he does a great job interpreting the readings. He rewards hard work! Nice guy, seemed relatable. If you came to class and paid attention (his lectures are interesting, so it's not hard), you can get a good grade and learn a lot.
He was a great teacher, I missed like 3 or 4 classes, but as long as you follow the syllabus and do all of the assignments, you will pass with an A. He is a pretty funny guy, I would recommend him if your taking Enlgish.
Entertaining and engaging. Good books, great discussions.
I hated this class, it was very dull & he loved to talk about things you absolutely could care less about! Overall he is a good professor but I would not recommend this class!
Professor Peltier was a pretty nice dude. He joked around in class alot to lighten the mood (because everyone hates early Mondays). Hardest thing was this Wiki project and even though he tried his best to help us with it, it still seemed overly confusing. He grades fair and for papers you should refer to Purdue Owl.
very straight forward, tells you exactly what he want. There is a writing assignment due almost every class usually only 2 pages easy points. one of the main projects the wiki seemed kind of irreverent, but was not terribly difficult. very nice guy, good professor
Great professor. Fair grader and as long as you put effort in to your assignments you will be rewarded with an A.
I like Peltier as a professor most of the time but I don't understand his grading on the bigger papers in class. I would get good comments in my paper then receive a C on the paper itself. It really irked me after seeing other papers with negative comments get higher grades than I. I don't get his grading. But there's a lot of cushion in the class.
He made us do a research paper and never gave a rubric and only talked bout it twice and we had a midterm and all he wrote me back for a response was expand more thoughts... he's unclear of what he wants and is never available outside of class.
He is a good professor, his class is real easy and easy for you to understand. If you don't understand, he will take the time out to help you. His grading is good and this are not any quizzes or test just papers. I recommend this class
Good guy, once you get past his epic beard you find out that there's a real man behind that thing. Great talks and knows his stuff.
He has a very good sense of humor and gets your excited for english (which not many people can do). Fair grader and is very passionate about teaching
It's an easy A if you do all of the assignments. However, the homework in this class alone took up all of my free time. We had one and a half page papers due pretty much every class period with journals every week on top of that. He's a cool professor though! Nice and easy to get along with.
He is a really laid back teacher in my opinion. Maybe it is just my own sense of humor but I laugh at least once every time I go to that class. I thought he was going to be mean on the first day just by his appearance but he is actually very kind and easy-going. Don't skip the homeworks, journals, or the 3 big papers. Easy-A class.
I wouldn't reccomend. He goes off topic a lot and pretty much likes to hear himself talk. He's not very clear on his assignments and typically only talks about them once. It takes him forever to grade one assignment. There's quizzes almost every class.
A lot of reading, if you show up you'll easily pass.
Took his class my freshman year and is still without a doubt my favorite professor at Eastern, he makes class fun and interesting. He is really chill and with help you get good grades.
Peltier is a fun guy. He's very personable. We read 10 novels and 4 short stories in the semester. You will be tested on the entire short story and the first of the novels. I would read the first half and then just read chapter summaries of the last half. Hes not the clearest in what he expects from the writing, but asking in office hours will work
Andre made class very enjoyable. The information he presents helps you to be successful in writing college papers. He's funny and easy going. As long as you do all the assignments on time you will have no problem getting a good grade.
Andre is a great professor if you love reading one book or several short stories a week. For people who don't like to read a whole lot, avoid his class, because the reading load is ridiculous. Gives 11 pop quizzes, but they're super easy. You also have 2 analysis papers, on research paper, and take home essays for the midterm & final exam.
He gave me great advice and I really enjoyed being in his class. He really helped me improve as a writer and somewhat enjoy writing, which I hated before. He gives a lot of assignments but they are pretty easy. Overall he is very fair when it comes to assignments and makes sure you improve on your skills.
He may be easily distracted; however, he is easy to talk to, funny, and the class is pretty lax.
TAKE HIM. he's so nice and funny. he assigns hw almost every night, but its things that can be done in minutes. You do need the book, but its super easy to read. He makes class fun and he's very relatable. He gives plenty of extra credit chances but you most likely won't need it. He knows how to teach and helps a lot with becoming a better writer.
He is a great professor, and you do learn a lot from him. He knows his stuff and is passionate about literature. He's one of the more laid back professors I've had, and often gets sidetracked on nerdy topics. Not crazy work-wise, just expect to read, because there are random quizzes on books. The midterm/final are take home essays, but not too bad.
Andre has the best personality, he can have a whole lecture on anything from netflix shows to world issues. Makes the classroom a friendly environment. The class itself is okay, lots of homework assignments (but only a page each) and three main papers. Definitely would take him as professor again.
If I had the chance, I would take Andre again. he's an awesome professor, he shares his opinions & listens to everyone elses also. he is passionate about what he teaches and how you succeed and improve, this makes the class awesome. plenty of homework, but easy enough not to stress. the structure & expectations are portrayed well & easy to get.
I took him 4 years ago and he's a funny dude. You do have a lot of homework and you do need the book but as long as you stay on top of the homework, you'll be fine. I'll admit I slacked the last 1/4 of the semester so I fell behind a bit but that's on me and not him. He gives great feedback and wants you to pass. Take him if you can, seriously.
Mr. Peltier is an awesome dude! You'll actually enjoy going to his class everyday. He's funny and smart and a great conversationalist! One of the best professors at EMU! That being said the class is VERY book heavy; you have to read A LOT! If you have free time to read then this is the class for you!
I wouldn't say attendance is mandatory but being there will defiantly help you out in the long run. He does have you read the textbook and complete assignments from it about twice a week. He is a very understanding person, so if anything does come up that causes you to fall behind don't be afraid to talk to him. I truly enjoyed going to his class.
The funniest professor I've ever had. Really great teacher too.
Andre is a great writing professor. It seems like a heavy load of homework at first but they are easy one and a half page papers and then there are three big papers. Overall easy, show up and research your paper topic and you'll do well. Really funny guy as well. Take him for WRTG 121!!
Love the comp 121 class. will take a class with him again if I get the chance
he i really funny, and really interactive with his students! I am so happy i have him this semester, he keeps the class fun and entertaining. He is very understanding when it comes to homework, and genuinely wants you to succeed in the class!! TAKE HIM!
Mr. Peltier is not a professor I would recommend. He never answers his emails, he never gives directions with his assignments (but still expects you to do exactly what he's looking for), and he takes forever to grade things. Although, I will say he has a fun and interesting personality that makes the class alright. Good friend; Not a good teacher.
Andre was my favorite professor during the semester. He was understanding when you couldnt come to class and didnt mark you down on participation. His writing assignments were fun topics and his grading technique was fair & square. I would 100% recommend him for writing, he was so cool!
Best professor of the semester here. Very understanding when it comes to students not being able to attend class, so long as you have an actual reason. Having him as a professor actually made the class interesting for me and got me to actually get back into writing and reading again. I would highly recommend people take him.
Great class discussions and easy amount of work load
He was very great during online while COVID-19 occurred. He was very understanding, fun, gave the perfect amount of assignments (not too much, not too little).
Super easy class. Only had about an hour of work a week. Three main papers for the course and easy shot assignments, easy to boost grade. Great lecture videos that are actually interesting and funny to watch. 100% recommend.
This class has a lot of assignments, 12 writing assignments, 12 writing prompts, and 3 papers. The class definitely takes a lot of time but was completely worth it. I grew immensely as a writer and it really helped in all of my other classes. He is very understanding and for the first 2 papers he allows students to fix them for a better grade.
You will definitely have to work for this class. There are multiple assignments due each week, and three papers. The professor is funny and for sure excited to teach.
I would definitely take Prof Peltier again! His lectures are fun and engaging, feel free to ask questions. He is interactive and easy to get in contact with. Actually going to class is helpful because you could miss some helpful information.
Does not want to help students at all. will throw 10 writing assignment at you and tell you have them all done by today. Does not explain anything at all. Does not help. makes you write about very weird topics that little kids write about. No instructions what so ever NONE.
Really chill and easy going, the assignments were fun and easy for me to get done. The only thing I didn't like is the group project.
Professor Peltier provided good opportunities to learn different forms of writing and how to recognize and minimize bias when writing research papers. I found many of the things that we learned to be quite helpful. One thing I found frustrating was he changed assignment requirements close to the due date. His lectures were extremely short.
You get a lot of assignments but they arent hard at all. He is very nice and understanding. Gives great feedback. If you have to take this course I would take him! I needed the textbook some assignments are based on it.
Prof Peltier is nice enough, he's good to his students, & his course wasn't particularly hard but his instructions were very unclear, causing me to get a lesser grade on an important because I didn't understand what he meant. He is incredibly unprofessional in his lectures, which was endearing at first but quickly became annoying. Overall mediocre.
Most work Ive ever had. Nice guy but very unorganized. Makes you read a book a week, sometimes they are 1,000 pages+ long. Then take a quiz & do discussion boards each week. Have to write 4 analysis papers for the mid term AND exam. 5pg research paper. AND MORE. I fell behind on reading the books because it was too much to do in just 1 week.
Theres a writing assignment every week but theyre generally very easy. The only thing is he releasing YouTube videos periodically so its not really possible to skip ahead. Theres also a textbook but its only $80 which isnt terrible
The writing assignments seem like a lot but he grades them very easy, and they affect your grade more than you think so make it a priority. He allows you to correct 2/3 of the big papers and gives great feedback which will help you if you choose to correct your paper. Recommend taking him before other writing classes because he prepares you well.
Super easy to get an A in the class, very generous grader. You only have to write 3 papers and two of them are on sources so very easy. He does participation points so you do need to go to class but if you email him that you won't be able to attend class he will give them to you. Super nice and funny.
amazing professor. you have 3 papers which arent that hard. the first two are about sources, and you have the chance to re write them if need be. there is also a few extra credit options! you do have writing assignments which arent that bad and graded very lightly. He does give good feedback and very clear instructions on papers. Take this class!
Really great guy, there are three main papers and 12 smaller ones, but they're all really easy, and overall it's a really great class. Would recommend!
He is a really good professor, not much work throughout the semester. 12 writing prompts, 12 writing assignments, 3 paper, a portfolio and so many extra credit opportunity. It would be nearly impossible to fail this class, his class was enjoyable. He does require a 90$ textbook that can be found at the emu library to borrow.
He was a super nice and chill professor. He just wanted you to write and learn something. You had 12 homework assignments and 3 papers. Two of the papers were source analysis'. The third was a research paper. He was a very easy grader as well.
Professor Peltier is a great professor he just fails to assign homework that will work with the timing of his projects which make it a-lot to keep up with.
Great professor! He's really funny and overall the class isn't hard. There is 1-2 paragraph homework assignments a week and then 3 big papers. They are easy though and you work on them in class a little with peer-review and whatnot. 100% recommend him!
Professor Peltier is my favorite professor at EMU. Although writing is not my strong suit hes really helped me become a better writer. Unlike majority of professors/teachers he has a personality and a great one at that hes very sociable and just overall a good person in my opinion
One of my funniest teachers ever. Class was pretty easy, although the long papers were brutal (probably the point of the class). Getting an A is really easy, just show up to class and do the work. Extra credit available as well
Prof. Peltier was really amazing. His class was not too hard, and he is really funny. There were 3 large papers, and some small writing assignments that he had us do in between to learn MLA and APA format. No exams or final, which was cool too. I'd recommend taking him as he makes it pretty easy to succeed in his class.
As a note, I took his Honors WRTG 121, not the regular course. He's a good professor but the amount of homework he assigned in the Honors section was pretty brutal. On average the homework consists of one or two assignments per week, both needing to be in MLA/APA and at least a page and a half long. I enjoyed the class but it very fatiguing.
