Very nice prof. He was new this semester but was friendly and very helpful and eager to learn how to improve his teaching for us. Got to know everyone by name and used many real life examples. Great prof if you get the chance to enroll in his class.
Very good prof, uses the examples taken from the textbook and really expands and explains them. He really helps students understand the concepts and prepares you well for tests.
Honestly, by far one of the best professors to teach at Ryerson. He engages the class, calls you by name, and literally teaches!. His examples are great, he doesn't shut anyone down or make you feel dumb-he's willing to help regardless of the circumstance. If you read the chaps, come to class-you seriously can get an A. Amazing prof!
Great prof and great course. Received my final exam mark and I was quite disappointed. He marks the true and false really hard and won't give u full marks if u don't write exactly what he wants. Other than that best prof I have had thus far! :)
Probably one of the best prof's at Ryerson. Never met a prof who actually cares about his students learning. Course is tough, but Andre does everything he can to make it engaging. Funny guy too, mixes humor into the classroom. Thanks Prof!
Have never written a review before, but this Prof deserves it, Andre is by far one of the best profs in Ryerson-hands down. He'll teach you and keep you engaged throughout the three hours. Take him, even if you do not read the book, you leave feeling smarter!
The best professor I've had at Ryerson in my 3 years. Engages with the class very well and gets to know students by their first names. Midterms and exams are straight forward. Read the book before class. His powerpoint slides and the way he explains content from the course makes law enjoyable and easy. He is also very approachable if you havequesti
Hands down the best professor i have had at Ryerson. He is very approachable and knowledgable, and will make you leave better then you came. Always have swagger
One of the best law profs I have had at Ryerson. A joy to go to his class every week, truly passionate about Securities as he has a wealth of experience in that field. Even just skimming the readings makes class way easier. Makes all concepts accessible and wants every student to succeed. Highly recommended!!
An extremely clear and approachable prof who taught the course so well. The course pack that he made was incredibly useful, it outlined different concepts in many ways to really help you understand it from different perspectives. He never tries to trick you on exams and he really made me interested in Securities Law, surprisingly. Great prof!
Andre has extensive first hand experience of the business world and of securities. He is very approachable and wants his students to do well. His exams are very straight forward & I never felt that he was trying to trick me. The course pack he put together with prof. Webb is a true gem. It has lots of good examples and cases relating to securities.
The best prof at Ryerson. That is all I have to say.
one of the nicest professors out there. He always makes time for your questions, and he is always interesting. Make sure you attend the lectures as he explains everything you need to know with great detail. He is a class act
He's really helpful and entertaining and is really engaged with the material. Even though the whole concept was already interesting, he made it even nicer with his knowledge and enthusiasm. His exams are easy, but his grading is unfair. I got a C from an exam I though I'd get an B+ easily
I took a few courses with Andre. If I was able to take every possible course with him, I would. He knows Law very well and has industry experience.. google him. He is very kind, respectful and is there to help students. He is the epitome of a incredible professor The only downfall to him is, he is a Montreal Canadians fan who lives in Toronto..
Probably one of the best profs at Ryerson. He really wants you to learn & never makes you feel stupid for asking for help. Treats all students' questions & concerns with respect. Very funny & engaging lecturer especially as there is a lot of material to cover for this course. If you have a chance to be in his class, it is highly recommended.
This was my second class with this prof. He is one of the best in my opinion. Truly cares about the success of his students and is always willing to clarify difficult concepts. He makes the lectures interesting and relates them to students and does not tolerate disruptions. He makes everyone feel comfortable and involved in the class.
One of my favourite profs at Ryerson! It is evident that he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Although the content can be dry at times, he takes this into account and tries to raise the energy level of the class. I recommend you attend classes as he explains concepts well and gives thorough examples.
He goes above and beyond for students to ensure they understand what he is teaching with regards to securities law. However, getting part marks is tough because he has specific criteria for what he is looking for on tests. Regardless, fairly easy to get at least a B, not impossible to get an A.
He is a nice guy overall but his midterms are super hard. A few mistakes will drop your grade from an A to a C just for losing more than 8 marks. Really picky about how he marks your answers. Don't text or surf the web during class. He doesn't like students becoming distracted when he talks so pay attention.
He seems to be a nice guy overall . His tests look easy but this is just an illusion. If your answers don't exactly match his, he will take off most of the marks even though your answer is correct. He is asking for way too much detail for both the midterms and the exam. I put in all the hard work needed for this course and still ended up with 68.
Great person and very helpful. Puts time and energy into his lectures and marks assignments and tests fairly. You will get a good mark and enjoy the class if you read and attent the lectures.
He is a fantastic Professor, very passionate about what he does and will be there fro you to go over anything you need. You need to be very careful on his exams, he does not try to trick you but it is easy to make mistakes. make sure you mention EVERYTHING because that is what he is looking for. Highly recommended.
I have had Andre two times so far. I wasn't a fan of the material but he really enlightened me and made it very interesting. He is a very passionate professor that loves to teach (so much that he showed up to 2 lectures when he had vertigo). You will get an easy A if you simply show up and listen. I've never got less then an 80 in his classes.
Andre Serero is the best professor I've had at Ryerson so far. His no cellphone policy may seem strict, but it is the reason I actually learned from a professor, for once. He is great with examples and clarification. I guarantee anyone can get a great mark by coming to class and participating; his test questions are directly from in-class examples!
Best professor I've ever had.
He is the best so far!! I'm not even kidding!! So clear
Didn't like him at all. He calls on you and puts you on the spot to answer questions which gives a lot of student anxiety. Also, if you ever have questions, he comes across very rude and says things like "We just covered that.." or "you tell me..". Hated going to his class and did not like his teaching method at all !!!!!!
Beyond teaching, he also mentors students about the importance of being mindful/present, as well as the value of a 3 hour lecture (in the face of "bad apple" educators who consistently cut lectures early). It is caring professor like him who makes Ryerson a success and make all the difference in student's lives.
Professor Serero is one of the best proffs i have had in ryerson. Although he does not let his students use their phones in class, his lecture and teaching method is beyond amazing.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He makes the topics easier. No phones allowed in class which is good cause he wants the best for his students. Reading before class is very important, however, coming unprepared doesn't hurt as much. Just make sure to pay attention during the lecture! Enjoyed the whole course, exams were fair.
Serero's midterms were fair, his lectures were really good as he emphasized on cases and developed his own through personal experiences. Got a 70 in this course without attending most lectures though. Some students weren't comfortable in his class because he would call the student out and challenge them.
Great professor. Makes lectures worth it. Everything taught in class is applicable to midterms and the final. Clear grading criteria for the individual assignment and is willing to answer any questions you have even outside class (by email etc.). Highly recommend you take him for ANY law course.
Best prof I've had at ryerson so far, he makes lectures fun and engaging
He is a good prof, he really cares about students' learning experiences. He is good at giving examples and explains concepts. He is accessible outside of class. there's a phone policy in his lectures.
Andre is an amazing professor. I enjoyed every single lecture. Be sure to attend 100% as if you miss a class you miss tons of useful information. Be sure to take notes and write his examples for each case as you will need them for better understanding as well as the exam. You will have to work for your grade but if you put an effort you willdogreat
Amazing prof. He makes his lectures enjoyable while still teaching us the material. Really funny guy. You need to attend his lectures to do well.
Great professor. Really cares about his students, ensures everyone is comfortable with content before he moves on. Expectations are very clear and relates to students very well. Overall great professor and would recommend to anyone.
He is a very enthusiastic professor that makes all of his lectures funny and engaging. He does randomly call upon people and has a no phone policy, so be prepared and focused during class. Exams while somewhat straightforward are marked pretty hard and minor mistakes will cost you a lot of marks as he does tend to nitpick a lot.
Serero is a great professor and is the best person to teach Securities law. With experience in this area of the law, he makes every class interesting through class discussion and personal experience. Do the readings, ask questions and you'll enjoy this course and Serero's teaching style.
Serero is the man. He is very passionate about the law and is there to help you succeed. He will force you to participate and will not move on until everyone in the class understands the concept. He provides real life examples that are very similar to those that appear on his exams. Hands down the best professor at Ryerson!
One of the best professors anyone can ever have. No phone policy does suck but it forces everyone to focus and listen to what he says, which ultimately helps a ton. He uses real life examples and does not go ahead in the lecture without making sure everyone understands the concepts. Difficult course but Serero makes it 10x easier.
very nice prof
He's a really good teacher and he is pretty funny. However, he marks really hard. I did all my weekly readings, made notes, colour-coded, etc. and I still ended with a B. He teaches the course in an interesting way, however, there are profs that mark easier but may not teach as well compared to him.
He is a very hard marker and tends to call on people and makes you uncomfortable if you don't the answer or don't answer it the way he wants.
hands down best class i took
You can tell he cares about his students and he wants them to do well. He explains the material very well and makes sure nobody is left confused about anything. Exams aren't hard and the project wasn't confusing either. Definitely would take his class again.
Honestly, this class was one of my favorite classes this semester, you can tell he really cares about what he's teaching. The midterm and exam are super fair just go to class pay attention and you'll do just fine. Andre is a gem.
Serero is a good prof that makes class pretty interesting with his examples. Lots of reading and textbook heavy. Classes can be pretty heavy too. Know your concepts well for the exams. Would take him again since he cares about the students and is willing to help as much as possible. Marks kinda hard though especially for the final exam.
Professor Serero is an amazing professor. He is very engaging and has made me interested in a subject that I would otherwise have no interest in. With the use of relevant examples and explanations, he always makes sure that the entire class understands a concept before moving on. Definitely would recommend.
Great Professor, really enjoyed my time with him. Engages the class and is very clear on what to expect for the exams. THE GOAT
He was just AMAZING! I enjoyed the class a lot. He really explains and simplifies everything. He repeats as many times as you want if you don't understand. He allows people to be mindful. Goes above and beyond. I was always looked forward to this class. Hands down my favourite.
Andre was the best prof I've had to this day. He genuinely cares about his students as long as you pay attention in class as he just wants whats best for you. He made me love law more than ever and if the course itself wasn't so hard, I would voluntarily join any of his classes. Study the content of the textbook thoroughly.
One of the greatest profs in my 4 years at Ryerson. An absolute gem.
gwould HIGHLY recommend. REALLY cares and make sure you understand concepts.
AMAZING LECTURES in spite of the class being online. Explains the concepts really well and very engaging. Would love to take another Law class as long as he's the prof.
An amazing prof! He really wants you to learn, gets you to really think in class. Provides a lot of examples in class so you really understand the content of the course. If you take LAW 122, try to get him as your prof.
Great prof and person in general. LAW122 isn't the easiest to understand on your own so having a prof that explains everything clearly is very important. Only prof I've ever had that uses the entire 3 hours but he teaches in a way that does not bore you. Only slight con is his technical marking (uses 0.25/0.5/0.75 instead of full 1 point marks)
Hes knowledgable and knows what hes teaching but if youre someone who doesnt like being picked on randomly in class, he is NOT the prof for you. Strict with his no tech policy and calls you out for typing on your laptop even if youre taking notes. Also graded our midterms pretty hard.
Great prof! This class was very straightforward. 3 tests based on the chapters of that week - not cumulative. If you want to do well, you HAVE to go to lectures since he brings up small little details that are useful for your tests. His examples in the lectures and interactiveness with the class helps you understand concepts. Pretty easy overall
BEST PROF EVER!! Really cares about your success and makes sure everyone understands the material. Forces everyone to turn their cameras on which I REALLY LIKED because it makes it feel like an in person class as much as possible. Explains concepts very well and provides lots of examples. Excited that I have him again next semester for LAW534!!!!
One of the best profs I've ever had! Most people would say that you need to read the textbook for this course but I didn't even touch it once. As long as you show up to lecture, listen, and take good notes of all the examples he says it's not difficult to do well.
Andre is simply the best and most enthusiastic prof I've ever had at Ryerson. He makes sure to cover all you need to know thoroughly in his lectures and you know exactly what he's looking for in an answer. He really wants his students to learn and do well. I didn't do the readings, his slides/lectures were enough. Fair marker, highly recommend him!
Really good Law prof and if you show up to class and pay attention you will do well. He is willing to repeat any information if you ask, and takes his time to answer questions. One of the best profs at Ryerson in my opinion, because you can really tell that he is enthusiastic about the subject and wants his students to do well.
Amazing prof! Very knowledgable in his area of expertise which makes him great at explaining such heavy material during lectures. Lectures are heavy but as long as you show up and listen you will do great!
Best law prof! he takes his time to really make sure everyone understands the concepts and repeats them until everyone gets it. His examples are very clear and straightforward and you will see similar ones on your test. The course is very heavy and you always have to be on top of your work
I loved attending professor Sereos classes! Hes an actually an amazing prof. Law can generally be such a dry topic, but Sereo made it super engaging and interesting. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to do better than simply passing. I highly recommend taking him for law122, you will not regret it!
One of the few profs that really spend the time to make sure you understand everything that is being taught. Super fair and caring dude. Would definitely take any class with him again.
He is very engaging but his marking is very difficult and it makes no sense how hard he marks.
Andre is a smart and reputable person, cares about his students and really pushes for participation so be ready to engage. Exams were a bit difficult since details matter but overall not too bad. The final paper gave students a lot of creativity but it was a little difficult starting early since you integrate class learning into your topic.
He is such a nice knowledgeable person. He is always ready to help. Be prepared to participate in class because he calls on people randomly and wants the whole class to have their cameras on. I wouldnt recommend skipping his lectures as he is really interactive, wants the whole class to understand and the slides make more sense.
Very engaging lectures. He will always answer student's questions during the lecture. All content from lectures are on the exams. He is a hard marker but as long as you attend class and engage with the lecture you will do well.
He's not a bad guy, I've had worse profs than him. He seems really easy going, but he is an extremely hard marker so be careful, my class avrg was in the high 60's and he considered that as a good avrg...
Great prof.
He definitely keeps the lectures interesting and engaging, but regarding the marking, he is specific as to what he wants, so detailed answers are key.
Professor Serero is an absolute gem! I am so glad that I had this class with him. He is very knowledgable and passionate about what he teaches which makes the lectures enjoyable. Attending lectures is MANDATORY to pass the class. For grading, I believe he wants very specific answers which is sometimes difficult. Would definitely take him again.
Prof. Serero is the best prof for this course. I highly suggest trying to get into his class. Favourite class this semester.
Great guy, fun and engaging. However, the hardest marker you will ever have. Only marked by midterm and exam. All my other courses are in the "A's" however this was a C+ so that speaks volumes on how hard of a marker he is.
Prof is very kind and engaging, tries his best to make you laugh. However he requires you to have your camera on and calls on you out of nowhere. His textbook readings are quite heavy, and his lectures are three hours long. He doesn't record the lectures and your mark is only based on your midterm and final exam, which is very make or break.
One of the best profs I've ever had. He genuinely wants you to learn in this course and it shows. Others say he's a hard marker, but he's just very specific. Just pay attention to exactly what he wants in your answers and go to class, and you'll do fine.
He teaches really well and lectures are fun but when it comes to midterms and exams he marks really hard and even If you go to all of his classes and participate, if you don't do it his way you can fail the class so take his class with caution.
I get headaches in this class because of his voice. His exams are difficult and expects us to go above & beyond for answers. You really have to pay attention to what he's saying because he doesn't record anything.
Best Law & Business prof hands down. Take him any chance you get. Nice, honest and upfront. 10/10 would recommend
Great prof. Anyone telling you that class is mandatory is not very intelligent. Just do your best with the slides, provide a bit of your own insight into your notes, and boom, you'll do well.
The reviews speak for themselves.
His lectures were amazing as he's rly enthusiastic & funny. 1 midterm 40% & 1 exam 60% but everyone i know ended up doing well. Content & tests were fair & straightforward. His marking was very fair & SUPER fast. His slides got tons of info so it's easy to take notes. I'd say classes are necessary to do well. Overall amazing, chill prof.
None of his tests for any law class require you to recite articles/case facts (still, read them). There are only analytical or knowledge questions on the law, its rules/tests, and definitions. Only stuff discussed in class will be on exams (same for LAW 122). Your notes for the open-book exams should be streamlined and include a table of contents.
Hands down the best prof I have ever had. Genuinely cares about his students and their success. Very engaging lecture even at 8am. Show up to class and ask questions and you will do great.
great teacher.
Probably the best law prof ive had in my 4 years. Lectures are so engaging despite being an 8-11. Not a difficult course just come to class. The analogies and basketball references are quite funny but stick to you. 2 exams, final is non-cumulative. Midterm was easy ngl and slides are great too.
He is an amazing professor. Truly cares about his students and if you listen in class and ask questions you will do very well. His exams are very fair and you should absolutely take this class
great prof
Amazing professor—genuinely wants to see his students succeed. The exams were fair, and if you go to every class, you should expect at least an A-. The content itself was also very interesting and just good general knowledge for business if you decide to take that route instead of law.
Professor Serero is the best professor I have had at tmu. He is such a caring professor and actively engages students in the lectures. He will also help you properly prepare for the exams. I 100% recommend taking this course!
