Hard class- when it comes down to the tests you are reallyy tested on your knowledge. But he does a really good job at explaining. When you have a question, he is always willing to help as best he can, he even answers questions on his own time. I have never had a question he didn't answer. Not a bad teacher, just a really hard class.
For a person who despises math, I actually enjoy going to his class. His grading is clear, and he doesn't just hand out good grades. You definitely have to work forearn it. It is a difficult class, but he's always going out of his way to help his students, even meeting with them on weekends if they need help. Hard class, great teacher.
His test are so hard. The only good thing is that he will meet with you whenever you need to meet with him. He is a super nice guy. Just be prepared to meet with him a lot throughout the semester
Statistics is a hard class. It is not the professor that is hard it is the class. Don't go into this class expecting a good grade. If you do your work though and really try to get a good grade he will really help you get there. He's a great professor, he's funny, and extremely helpful.
This class was tough but Souza is a great professor. He will make you work for it but is always available to help. He responds to emails almost immediately 90% of the time and he is hilarious during lecture. If you don't go to class be prepared to fail because reading the book just confused the hell out of me.
He expects way too much from you. It isn't fair that he teaches this class because so many people fail with him. For every test I have taken this semester the WHOLE class fails and it doesn't bother him. He offers no points anywhere else. When you ask for clarification he just repeats himself!! DO not take this class if you just want to fail.
Tests are the only thing that you are graded on (& everyone fails). He's a humorous guy but needs to spend more time learning how to teach undergraduate students than trying to be "tough", his class is pretty much impossible to pass with a C, so if you care about your GPA you should NOT take this class. ( C is what you need to pass the course).
Andre's the man. He makes you work for every grade you get, trust me I know, but he's the most helpful professor on this campus. He's hilarious and he really wants you to understand stat. His examples are easy to relate with, and overall the class was enjoyable. IT IS A LOT OF WORK - but it's going to be hard no matter who your teacher is.
It's a hard class, but he is a good teacher! He is willing to help if you seek help from him. Make sure to go to class, or you will not do good.
I always heard PY 211 was a blow-off class. Dr. Souza's class is NOT easy. However he's genuinely concerned that his students be able to truly understand the material, not just regurgitate math for tests. I was challenged but I'm a better student and a smarter statistician for it. Also, he meets wyou WHENEVER and does WHATEVER to help! Great prof!
Class intimidated me at first, but then I started doing well on the exams. Some of the content of the exams can be tricky, like having questions that are more related to the conceptual aspect of stats. Definitely read the textbook to get a better feel for that. Andre is cool though, he created an entire Facebook group for us & gives good feedback.
If you put effort into this class, you will get a good grade. This is one of the few classes that I think really reflect what kind of student you are. If you go to class and study, there is nothing keeping you from an A+. Andre is a perfectly fair professor.
Its PY-211 so its going to be ridiculously hard. I will say this is my third time taking this class and probaly the first time ill pass it so theres that. Its true at times the way he words things seems confusing. He does offer plenty of chances for help though and has done quite a bit to redeem the fact that so many are struggling in the class.
The beginning was very rough for all the students, but once he saw that we were struggling he changed everything up. Added buffer points to help us out. Talking to him was weird at first, but after the first time, we were able to message through Facebook and he was there for any questions. It's statistics, it's going to be tough but worth it.
Professor Souza is a great professor. He does so much for the people who really try in this class. He will meet with you at anytime and even offers you his phone number for extra help. Statistics is a hard class so you have to be ready to work but Professor Souza was hands down the best professor I could of had for statistics.
Professor Souza does have a tough class, but if their is a way to make statistics enjoyable he does it or atleast tries. Many people on here are saying he doesn't help or give extra points, and that's true he doesn't. However if you want to pass and are willing to work hard in the class he will look out for you. Makes himself available and helpful
The class was impossible. The teacher doesn't give you points for anything but tests. Which are impossible to pass. The whole class failed the first 2 of 3 tests and he still offered no points at all. He may be accessible but if you ask him questions he explains it in the most difficult way. The whole class was burned out after every lecture.
You will hate Andre if you don't appreciate how relevant statistics are to behavioral sciences. The moment you realize how statistics applies to what you are doing is the moment you will understand it. This class is difficult because it teaches you a skill necessary for the real world. I recommend Andre for all hard working students.
Statistics is a hard class, but I've taken ST 260 and found this to be much easier. You have to study and read the book, and ask questions if you don't understand. But he re-structured our whole class because we were doing badly and let us take an extra exam to replace our lowest score. If you need PY 211, take it with Andre!
This class is hard, and his tests definitely aren't easy. However, he is extremely understanding about grades and is willing to help you when you need it.
Andre is an awesome professor. The class isn't easy and he makes you work hard to learn the material, but he is more than willing to help. He's a funny guy and makes coming to class entertaining, but if you don't come to class, you will miss a lot of valuable information.
Andre is a pretty cool guy. He is super nerdy, meaning he knows his stuff. He has an accent that makes it hard to understand some of the things he says. Overall I liked him but I didn't like the class.
This class was overwhelming for me in the beginning but the more I read & attempted problems in the book the more I understood it. Souza is a good professor & always willing to help. If you don't understand something he'll go more in depth but only if you ask. This class is challenging so you have to understand the concepts if you want to do good.
Andre is a cool, down to earth guy but his class is hard. If you would have asked me mid-semester, I would have said I hated the class and him(as a professor) ALOT. However, my mind has changed. Andre actually cares about his students and will do whatever it takes to help. I should have had a low B or C but finished with an A instead! Take him.
He has high expectations. His tests are tricky so make sure you know the concepts behind the math inside and out. He also tests on material that is in the book that wasn't necessarily taught in class so read the book. He's really helpful outside of class so go to his office hours! This is a do-able class if you apply yourself.
Dr. Souza is amazing! He will go out of his way to help you. He will always reply to your emails, and be as helpful as he possibly can. With that being said, it is your responsibility to seek help if you need it. READ. I would totally take Dr. Souza again! He knows his stuff, and most importantly he knows how to teach!
This teacher is absolutely fantastic. Funniest professor I have ever met. Always cuts lectures short and cancels class on occasion. He gave us study guides for the tests and always shows funny videos to help you understand things. Very interesting class and great professor!!!!
Andre Souza is by far one of my favorite teachers I've had here at UA, or ever for that matter. Lectures are fun and interesting, and sometimes we get out early! He engages well with the class and is really funny!! I would recommend going to class if you're looking for a good grade, his grading policy is clear-cut and being in class will help you.
Yeah the guy is funny and made me laugh, but I personally do not believe thats what you should be looking for. This was one of the most challenging courses I have taken. My biggest concern with Dr. Souza is that his lectures are not completely clear and the way he teaches is confusing. Understand there are few chances to bring up your grade.
SOUZA IS THE BEST! We had 4 exams and for each one he gave us 90 multiple choice study guide and then he took 30 of those exact questions and it was on the test. IT WAS AMAZING! Made A+ on every test, and I am a 3.4 GPA student. COULDNT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER PROFESSOR. He does take attendance every class (clicker questions), but hes great
He's a really nice guy and he's hilarious!! It's just that the material is hard so you need to be willing to take the time and memorize the slides he posts online. It's really important when studying and showing up to class is a good way to not fall behind. Overall, he's a good teacher and I think it's doable.
Andre is a great teacher, but he is very hard. He is hilarious which makes a hard class a lot more enjoyable. There aren't many grades. He expects you to really know the information. Thankfully, he does give bonus options at the end. I recommend this class if you are prepared to work hard for a good grade.
Run!!! Unless you have to and if you have to take it somewhere else. He's fun tho but you probably will struggle!
Everything on the tests are from the lectures (mostly) and the book (some); if you study and read the book, you will pass. Read the book before class and before tests, definitely helpful when studying and going more in depth. Great professor and knows what he's talking about. Really funny and makes lectures easier to pay attention to.
The class itself is already a foreign language, that added to the slight language barrier he brings from Brazil can make it down right confusing. So you have to be sure to pay attention and ask for help when needed, he is tech savvy so you can just email him questions and get a reply quickly. Advice; go to class, do the work, and don't over stress
Dr. Andre is a very interesting professor. I did not know what to expect entering this class because I've never had any history with statistics at all. Honestly, it was the hardest class I've had all semester because he does not make it easy for you and the material SUCKS. Class is challenging. Period.
great teacher, you must go to class to do well on the test. interesting class keeps you entertained, responds to emails quick. doesnt go off the book much, but if he does take answers from the book he will give a heads up.
Not a tough class, unless you never show up and don't read the chapters. It is not hard to keep up with the class, as long as you do the homework, and have good attendance the class shouldn't be that hard. Study for the tests!
The material is very difficult and time consuming, but going to class definitely helps. Andre is great at relating it to every day life and making it funny. Its easier to grasp if you attend lectures. Also, the tests are the way he words practice problems so going to class gives you an advantage on that front too.
Dr. Souza is a new age kind of professor. He's hilarious and relates difficult topics to everyday life, which is difficult for your average older professors. 3 exams, lowest exam only counts 5%., HW Is just for your help5%,1 Project. He makes sure students understand the complex material. He's a comedian which help students relax and understand.
Lets be honest, statistics is not easy. This is a tough course but he makes it enjoyable. He is hilarious and a fun professor. He is passionate about teaching and is always open for meeting up with you to help you out or answer your emails with questions. You need to come to class if you want to pass and take advantage of extra credit opportunities
He is a great teacher. You really need to come to class and pay attention to his lectures. It is not a class where you can just get by, you must work for a good grade. He is really funny guy and makes his lectures interesting. If you are struggling, TELL HIM. He is very willing to help you however he can.
He is a funny teacher, but hard! You have to work hard but he works with you. Coming to class is mandatory or you'll fail. He is such a fun teacher which makes the hard class more fun
He is a great teacher. It is a hard class and there are only three tests including the final. He will work to help you and does what he can to make sure you understand the material. Overall good class.
He does a great job during lectures. He keeps you listening with his examples that usually include beer. He also will revisit things you've already learned in later lectures to help refresh your memory. His test werent hard if you study what he tells you to. Overall, I really liked this class.
he's a real teacher! doesn't ask his students to memorize, but really grasp conceptually. hilarious, helpful, understanding. not an easy class if you dont put in the effort. i recommend going to class every time.
There are barely any tests and all the tests only have 30 questions so if you miss one you are already screwed.
Awesome
He is a great teacher, lots of people did not come to class because it was optional I believe the test way to pass is coming to class. Yet he is a great teacher, his tests are extremely difficult. I think he expects a little too much out of his students so with that I am not sure I would take him again bc of the tests. Does give extra credit
Awesome professor. Great sense of humor. Makes himself available. Takes questions at the beginning of every class period. Makes lectures interesting and relatable. Content hard but not impossible if you work for it. Overall, how college was meant to be taught.
His lectures are very interesting. Clicker questions at every class. Test are difficult, but he gave us awesome study guides for the 2nd and 3rd. Your lowest test grade is dropped, so I was able to skip the final. Enjoyed his class and I'm taking his statistics class next semester.
He is a great teacher! Hard to understand sometimes because he has an accent. Its not hard to get an A in his class, as long as you go to class regularly.
Dr. Souza is seriously the best psychology teacher here at the University in my opinion. He is very interesting and honestly his class is fun. I have enjoyed the semester with him and learned a lot of new and interesting information. I would definitely take him again.
Loved his class! Take it. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand and his grading is fair. His weekly homework assignments aren't very difficult, especially if you buy the book, so BUY THE BOOK. Also, his weekly homework assignments help you do better on your exams because they force you to read the chapter. I sincerely enjoyed his class
Proffesor Souza is hands down the best proffesor I have taken. He is very clear and uses great examples to make concepts memorable. If you go to class and review right before the exams you should do very well. He also gives a lot of extra points.
He's a great professor but the class is hard
He's a great professor but the class sucks
Dr. Souza is very helpful and I found the class to be very interesting. Going to class is a must because you'll be lost if you miss too many days. Also, take advantage of his office hours, I think that's what really helped me if I wasn't sure abut something discussed in class. Constantly read over PowerPoint notes. He responds to every email.
Awesome teacher, would definitely take him again. Class is not hard but he makes you work for your grade, which is how college should be. I thought his lectures were interesting so it made going to class easy. I recommend him to anyone taking elem. stats!!! Oh and I NEVER used the textbook so don't buy it.
Awesome professor. Posted all lecture slides online. This class (PY 211) had simple math, and was more based around statistical concepts. Very helpful. Not a lot of homework. Takes questions at the beginning of every class which was really helpful.
He could not explain things better if he had to. Great teacher!
If you like examples of sex and alcohol, he's your man. He literally uses nothing else for examples unless its about ugly people. Super annoying in class. He's super annoying and tells his class he is lazy. Definitely would not take him again. Doesn't go over the hard stuff in class, but spends 20 minutes explaining what a mode is.
He means well but takes a difficult approach at getting there.
Incredibly kind and will be there to help. Easy to skip class and pass but don't take advantage of him. He offers extra credit for coming to class and will often get you a very good grade if you respect his time and pay attention in class.
Dr. Souza is a great teacher. His lectures are very straight forward and clear. He is a conceptual teacher he makes you think about the concepts of statistics not just the math behind it. His tests are not that difficult and he is also a very helpful professor, replies quickly to emails. I would definitely recommend taking his class.
genuinely wants the students to do well. he makes statistics which is very boring material fairly fun by making it relevant. knows what hes talking about and teaching. SO funny
Professor Souza is a pretty cool guy. He is very understanding and wants you to do well in his class. He will help you in any way he can. You have to go to class and pay attention during his lectures if you want to pass. His tests are very conceptual
If you actually put in effort, you will do well in class. Make sure to show up for class even though it's non-mandatory because he does make it worth coming with extra points sometimes. He is very helpful and a nice guy, I can tell he wants the best for us as his students! I hate stats, but Dr. Souza will make the class more interesting.
Dr. Souza made statistics easier to learn and made his lectures interesting. The homework and tests aren't too difficult but he curves the tests. I went from a D to a high B because of the curve. He is extremely relatable and funny! He is always willing to help his students understand the material better and his lectures are easy to understand.
He's a great professor and a great person. He makes this subject easier than it should be, and I wish that we had learned more statistical methods and practiced applying them more . But show that you care, and he will reward you. He makes the concepts clear and simplifies them so they're easy to understand. He's also hilarious!
You have to work for your grade, but in the end it's all worth it. 10/10 would drink beer with him.
Andre is honestly such an awesome guy! He's so open and makes class so much fun by using examples that are relatable to us college students. However, the homework is really hard but only counts towards 15% of your grade. Tests are pretty difficult as well but he does everything he can to boost your grade when you need it. Lots of extra credit!
Professor Souza is a great teacher! Stats is a hard class but he makes it fun and gives hilarious examples. He is very willing to help if you need it. He offered a lot of extra credit points towards the end of the semester which saved me. Only had 3 test which were cumulative. Highly suggest going to class and and using the book!
Attendance isn't mandatory, but would definitely recommend going daily. Great class and excellent professor!
Don't take this class if you're not willing to put in effort for a good grade. That being said, if you show that you care, Dr. Souza is more than willing to help save your GPA by making sure you understand concepts. Also lots of extra credit opportunities in class so go even though it's not mandatory!!
Okay so he basically at the end of class rounded everyones test grades up 30 points because he just felt like being nice. Overall an awesome dude and he's kinda hot. Attendance wasn't mandatory but in the middle of the semester he started to take attendance and only curved those peoples tests.
Dr. Souza is a really cool dude, but this class was so difficult. I ended up with a B-, though I didn't deserve it. The only reason I passed was because he scaled all the tests. Stats suck but every psych major has to take it, might as well take it with Dr. Souza. The homework was garbage and barely related to what he taught in class.
Dr. Souza is hilarous and his lectures are interesting. Tests are tought, so definitely study!
Mr. Souza was so funny and very interesting. He was always very easy to get in contact with and would always immediately respond. Tests are hard but he scales, or at least he did for our class. Course content is a boring but all Psych majors are required to take it. Online homework didn't help at all. Going to class and taking notes is vital.
Dr. Souza was one of the best teachers I have had at this University so far. His lectures are short but very clear and if you still don't understand it after he is very easy to get in touch with. He gives A LOT of extra credit (at least for my class). Even so his quiz were not tough as long as you go over your notes and the book.
He gives extra credit multiple times per semester. I never even bought the book so don't bother. He helps you out so much with your grade if you just ask! I would definitely take him again! Oh, and if you miss 10% of the classes (about 3) he will take off a letter grade so make sure you show up!
Hilarious professor who is great when it comes to explaining concepts. Homework doesn't really apply to his tests which can be tricky but he scales pretty heavily. The only thing I didn't like was his very strict attendance policy.
Dr. Souza makes stats fun! Attendance is very important since there is large subject matter everyday. Theres 4 tests and they're fairly hard. The textbook is pretty much useless. There is not a lot of homework but it is graded based on averages which makes it hard to ace. He usually lets class out in like 20 minutes. He is so funny and the best!
Hard class but he makes it really fun and interesting. Loves his job and always wants to help. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT!!! go to class and do the online assignments and you'll be fine. Really great teacher.
Dr. Souza is hilarious! The class is tough but he explains the material very well so you can understand. He makes class fun and doesn't waste time so you are usually let out early. I would definitely recommend him!
I don't know why people say bad things about this class! For one if you don't pass this class it because you don't know how to read the syllabus and never showed to class. While you do have to come to class and may even dread it, it will pay off in the long run. He scales the test and gives out bonus all the time. Also he is cool and funny.
Professor Souza is a hysterical professor. His lectures are brief and to the point, but he only covers a portion of what you're tested on in class. The lectures are always interesting because he uses a tremendous amount of jokes and relatable situations to create examples for the class.
Super easy class if you show up, and do the homework. Homework isn't bad, and all answers are usually found from the online textbook. He makes it sound like it will be hard to pass at the beginning of the semester, but ends up adding quite a few extra credit points. He's really funny/blunt, one of the my favorite teachers here so far!
Make sure you take him if you have to have stats & GO TO CLASS!!!!!! Awesome teacher and gives his students every opportunity to get a good grade, lots of extra credit. If you miss 10% of class (3classes) he drops you one letter grade, more than that you fail the class.
Great Professor. He treats his students with dignity and respect. I would highly recommend him for any course a student has to take. He always ask are there anty questions in class.
He's a good teacher, very funny, and understanding. He is very open to the class and always asks if we have any questions and offers a compromise if there is a class disagreement on grading or any kind of issue. I would take him again if I was a psych major
Do the HW and you will be fine
All of his tests are cumulative and really hard, but he ends up scaling every one of them. Do the homework and do it well, or it'll sink your grade. He takes attendance everyday and if you miss more than 10% of the classes, he drops your grade by a letter. Overall a good and funny teacher, just work hard on the HW
I loved Andre! He is hilarious and very helpful when it comes to grading. He scales a lot, but you should know the basic concepts when you're doing your work. He likes for people to participate during class, and read the material before class so you're not just awkwardly sitting there when he asks a question. I'd take him again!
I took Dr. Souza over the summer, and had read his ratings on here before signing up. This professor is truly awesome. Treats you like adults, and expects you to act as such! He gives great examples and dumbs the material down so you can understand past the mumbojumbo. He truly wants you to understand the material and pass the class.
Your quizzes are based on the textbook, and tests a re based on things covered in lectures. Easy class as long as you go to class and keep up with the homework. Love this teacher, I learned alot. He tells lots of stories that relate to the material he is covering. Willing to meet outside of class if you need help grasping a concept.
Andre is a great professor. He understands that statistics isn't a passion for most people but explains it in a way that's easy to understand. His examples were hilarious and things you'll definitely never forget. Took his class during the summer and the homework and tests came directly from the book. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
