She doesn't require as much as other professors.
There is usually a quiz everyday but it helps you stay on track. If you take good notes and look at them before class you will do good on her quizzes. She uses the material on the quizzes on her tests. She is very helpful and good with names.
Lab report, homework due before lab, and quizes before the start of each lab. Adams is always there to help before lab, during her office hours and during the actual lab. Keep up with the material and you'll be fine.

Very good professor in the lab, always willing to help, short quiz at the begining helps you to know what your doing, easy to make A
DO EVERYTHING SHE TELLS YOU, PRE-LABS AND HOMEWORK. Make sure you remember what you did on the homework (equations, etc.) cause you'll need it on the quizzes
She is such a great teacher. If you come to class "almost" everyday, you will do fantastic. She is willing to help you anyway you need, she even gives you her cell phone and tells you to call her late at night if you are having trouble. She's the teacher that made me interested in Chemistry (Major).
awesome teacher. Grades very fair and somewhat on the easy side. She is awesome for outside help and she is the nicest teacher i have encountered at SMU
Great Professor! Made lab fun and interesting. She is very nice and helpful. She grades fairly easy and breaks the material down to your understanding.
she teacher chem lab In lab shez strict & seems very stern But go to her office hours, she soo nice. Get you homework checked by her, ask her all your questions, and get an easy A! The experiments are fun and exciting. Do all the things she tells you to do before class like hw and the lab report. And be ready for the quiz or else she'll kick u out.
At first seems stern, but actually very nice, very helpful, very fair. Quizzes are from homework, so I redo it right before lab to help me study for it and it works. Ask her or TAs for homework help and do prelab first.
Wonderful! Chemistry wasn't exactly one of my favorite subjects and i really didn't want to take it but it was required for my major. She really made me love chemistry and i learned a lot without even realizing it. if all chem professors were like her i would become a chem major! Take her! shes the best by far!
i actually dropped chem with lattman and mrs. adams was my seconds time around. after having her in lab i was worried but she was actually a really great and nice teacher. she explained everything well and did many examples. i def recommend her!!!
Really helpful. will explain everything. will walk you through the homework.
Really nice- So not mean! I think she is only mean if you dont try. She will check your homework and practically redo it for you if you take advantage of the offer though you do have to do your hw earlier than its due to make that happen. She is willing to help with anything and the people that do badly in her class dont make the effort to do well
Great professor. Go to her office hours and you will do fine.
Professor Adams is amazing. She tries to come off strong and mean to scare people but she is one of the best professors here at SMU. She is always willing to donate time to her students and actually cares if you understand the information. Take her class!
She's awesome! SO SO helpful and funny... she's the best general chemistry teacher at SMU
Professor Adams treats everybody like a child. She is constantly angry and irritated. When people asked her for help she kept repeating the same thing over and over. She likes to talk about how smart she is and uses every chance to brag about herself.I have never seen a worst teacher in my life. Makes Chem lab a torture
If you will do your pre-lab stuff, you will do great in her class. If you are not planning on putting in the effort needed, she will not like or respect you! If you ask for help she will help you! She is great, but i wouldn't cross her!
Work hard and you will learn tons and get a good grade. Don't wait till the last second to do the preLabs...
She exemplifies every quality I would want in a professor. She is stern but very clear, knows her stuff and can be extremely helpful but only if you take advantage of things like her office hours. Really really liked her
The class overall is easy. Just do the prelabs and homework. If you go to her office hours she'll practically TELL you the answers to the homework. If you do well she likes you. If not, she hates you - and she'll show you she hates you. She can be mean and is always irritable but if you make good grades, you stay on her good side.
Good prof for lab (I hear) but horrible for lecture!! She goes very fast during lecture and is then annoyed when she has to go back a slide. Her quizzes are extremely challenging. She does have a lot of office hours but you will have to fight the other hundreds of students who don't understand to get a spot.
Mrs. Adams is a fantastic teacher and lab instructor. Loves chem, fair, available for office hours, nice! Class was hard (not as bad as 2nd semester), quizzes were difficult, but were good prep for tests. Lecture fast paced, but she had prnt out notes on BB. Lab 1114 was really hard (as all chem labs), but she will check your hw during office hours
SHE IS THE BEST!
It can get stressful trying to cram finishing up the lab report at the end of the experiment. During lab Ms. Adams might be a bit cranky but during her office hours she's super sweet and very helpful.
Best teacher I've had. She comes across pretty harsh in class, but will give all the help you need in office hours. She has office hours all the time and will work with you if you can't make it when she's there. She will check your homework completely and make sure you get all the points.
Mrs. Adams may seem to be a strict, unhelpful professor at first. However, she has office hours in which she is willing to help on anything chemistry related, and she is extremely helpful when asking questions in lab. She is a tough grader, but it is not difficult to learn what she expects on her assignments. There is a lot of work involved.
She is incredibly willing to help and truly wants her students to succeed. She has taught my lecture section a few times as well and I understood the material perfectly. One of my favorite teachers at SMU so far.
Wonderful professor who wants to see each of her students succeed. This is a pretty straightforward class. Pre-lab quizzes are very similar to the homework so make sure to go over it a couple times. Study hard for the final exam lab practical.
Adams is a great lab proctor. You will be doing a lot of work, pre-labs and quizzes before every lab, but it will reinforce what you're learning in Gen Chem and teach you how to apply it. All labs are long and draining, but Adams makes them worth it.
You can't go wrong with any of the chemistry lab professors at SMU. I had her for 1114 and really enjoyed it. The material gets harder and some of the labs take forever to complete but overall it's not too bad. She's always available to help you out and wants to see you succeed.
I LOVE Adams! She was by far my favorite professor and I only had her for lab. She is super caring and really wants to help you. She seems tough in lab, but is super nice in office hours. You can go see her to check homework answers or get help with stuff for lecture. She also wrote the lab manual. Lab is work, but thats just the class not her
First day you have Mrs. Adams she'll scare the death out of you, but she is actually one of the nicest most caring teachers i've met. She asks a lot, but show her that you care by doing well and she will love you. Do the homework and you'll be set for the lab. Her class was CRUCIAL for my success in the lecture. She is an outstanding professor.
Adams tells you exactly what she wants from day 1, she even wrote the lab manual herself. Find a way to make all your work in the format she likes, and you'll do great. Always beware of sigfigs! Adams is an amazing lab professor and really wants to help you learn, go to her for questions from lecture and even research opportunities in chemistry!
Pre-labs take a lot of time. Mrs. Adams is fantastic, though. As long as you're trying and putting in effort, she is willing to help you and answer any questions you may have. Don't be afraid to go to office hours and ask questions - she wants to help.
Very nice teacher who will always help but she is one of the strictest graders I have ever seen. Her lab practicals are difficult and the quizzes themselves are also terrible. Make sure to do the lab reports ahead of time. Out of all the chem lab teachers, she is the best at explaining the material. She even wrote the lab manual!
Mrs. Adams seems tough the first day of class but she's really the sweetest. She's willing to help and work with you on any homework problems and helps during labs as well.
Prof. Adams is the best lab professor there is. She knows what she's talking about (she wrote the MANUAL) and she is willing to help students in any way. She does not tolerate foolishness, and freshmen do have the tendency to be foolish. Study well for the quizzes, take the labs seriously, and the lab practical will be *easier* to study for.
Would not allow me to make up a lab even though I had a family emergency (a funeral) that I had to attend overseas. Acted like I made the whole thing up, and by the time she came around, there were no more flights I could take. She is NOT accommodating in the least and she was unprofessional in how she handled the situation.
Gives clear instructions, will provide help if you ask, and knows her stuff.
Very knowledgeable, ready to help you IF YOU ASK, when she grades your labs she puts feedback to let you know where you messed up.
She's very straightforward in her expectations and is available for help outside of class. She tries to make the lab fun, but is also gets down to business. She also gets past assignments graded and returned in a timely manner.
She knows her stuff and is clear about her expectations. Creative and engaging labs. Wants you to understand what you're doing. Only qualms (in my opinion) that she picks favorites seems like she either likes you or she doesn't. Appears that students who've taken her in the past receive special treatment, others can be treated coldly. Still good.
Really nice person to talk to individually. But like many other science teachers, has a lot of stigma against AP courses and students who accept AP credit. Has a lot of clear expectations. As long as you follow her directions, you should be fine. Make sure to do the homework. Tends to take off points for nitpicky things.
Mrs. Adams is great. The 2nd semester of chemistry lab is definitely harder than the 1st but she is always willing to work with you during her office hours and is great about answering emails. She is incredibly accommodating to student athletes, which is hard to find in a professor. You have to come to this class ready to work, but it's great.
She defintely has favorites. She always says "ask me! I'm here for you!" but when you ask her she is soo so so rude and pompous. Last week she literally ignored me and didnt bother to make eye contact and told me "go ask someone else". I almost cried so many times in this lab. You'd think she'd be helpful because she wrote the book. nope.
Soo knowledgeable about the class, she literally wrote the lab manual. I spend around 2 hours a week outside of class doing the prelab and HW but it pays off because it also helps clarify chem 1303 material. It isn't hard to do well, because there are 20 pts extra credit available throughout the semester. Overall, loved Adams and loved the class!
She's not very kind. she is a very harsh grader. would not recommend it.
She doesn't only help you with chem lab but is able to help you with any lecture problems also. Do the homework from her lab manual if you want to do well on the quizzes. Truly the only professor that made me not hate chemistry.
I love her, don't hesitate asking for lecture help too. Her quizzes can be hard if you don't do the homework, but as long as you do the work required for class and give your 100% at labs you will be fine. Try to get the max points on the labs cause the lab practical never gives you enough time to finish the questions. Easy A-, a little harder A!
Do the homework, try to get all the bonus points. Very doable to get at least A-. Some labs are long but help with lecture material
Do the homework a few times to get a good understanding. Slightly harder than 1st semester. Lab compliments material from lecture.
Mrs. Adams may not give off warm, fuzzy vibes, but she's reasonable, helpful, and incredibly patient. You absolutely MUST utilize her office hours, do the lab work over the weekend if you have to. This will pay off when you're making slight changes to your report while everyone else is figuring out why half of their calculations are garbage.
The worst professor I have ever had! She is not understanding and is extremely rude when you ask questions. Her grading is very intense and she takes off for every small mistake, especially sig figs. Be prepared for long nights of writing lab reports, also be sure to go to office hours!
She may not seem friendly, but she really is once you get to know her outside of class! She is very helpful and encouraging. She'd send emails telling students good job if they did well on a quiz/test. She can definitely figure out who is a hard worker, so work hard in her class!
Mrs. Adams is a great choice for lab! She definitely won't go easy on you but that will help you in the long run. She can definitely tell which students are working hard and really appreciates effort. Go to office hours for help and get the pre-labs done ahead of time.
Prof. Adams is a decent professor, but she is not forgiving at all. If you want a nice professor, she is not that. She takes off minor points for everything, ESPECIALLY decimals. She makes you feel bad about asking questions and is rude towards her students. Her labs are very detailed, so pay attention to everything in class!
She definitely runs a hard lab BUT she does care about her students so much too. I was sick a few labs in a row and had to miss so my grade took a hit but she was understanding and bumped my grade up in the end. Communicate and build a relationship and you'll have a good experience.
I found Professor Adams to be extremely hard for first semester Gen Chem Lab, but I've heard from other people that she's much more relaxed second semester and tries to be more accessible and an easier grader. Just be sure to do the homework problems before lab because she gives quizzes at the beginning of every class.
Literally, on the first day of lab, she scares all her students by saying this class is extremely hard and that many people will fail. When you're confused and ask questions she will belittle you and make you feel even dumber. I had anxiety in that class all the time. I do not recommend it.
ok, she can be a bit scary on the first day, but as the semester goes along she is really caring, accessible outside of class, and wants her students to succeed. a good explainer too. i recommend building a relationship with her at the beginning of the semester, as she likes students who do that. don't get too intimidated by her!
Professor Adams is really caring and helpful! Her quizzes really help with understanding Chem 1304 material, and her lab manual is really informative. I'd recommend taking her for lab.
Professor Adams is the worst professor I've ever had in my life. She is an incredibly unfair grader and rude. She told me I would likely not get into med school and made me cry during a meeting about my grade. Clearly has anger issues and should NOT be working as a professor-Maybe a Dick's Last Resort waiter or executioner is more her speed.
Amazing lab teacher, encourages you to ask questions, can be a little picky when it comes to grading. Overall, very nice lady and wants students to do well. There is lab prep you have to do before class, though.
She is extremely caring and takes a ton of time to make sure her students understand the material. Mrs. Adams also dedicates a lot of time to office hours if you email her. The lab lines up very nicely with the lectures as well.
Dr. Adams may appear very intimidating, but she is an excellent! She will be mean to people who she thinks are lazy and don't care, but once you show her you work hard, study, and want to be there, then she will like you. You must EARN her respect. Once you do, she is extremely kind and will help and give you advice. So big tip: SHOW HER YOU CARE!!
Professor Adams can seem intimidating at first, but she is a great teacher. She stresses how important it is to do the homework problems and it is a lot of problems. Her tests are similar to the homework, so do the homework. She doesn't check attendance but it is in ur best interest to attend class as she does not post certain notes on Canvas.
I love this lady she is so cute and precious. The class is an easy A if you go to class and do all the homeowork problems. The tests are super straightforward and similar the notes.
Mrs. Adams isn't an easy grader and makes her class tough, but she's great if you put in the work. She's super nice and will go out of her way to help you IF you work hard in class; however, if you slack off or try to BS her, you're in for a rough ride. Essentially, you can have a great time in her class or a miserable one; I would do the former!
Mrs. Adams may be a tough professor but she is caring and loves to teach. I would take her again in a heartbeat. She is always available if you need her and will answer any question you have. If you can, definitely take her class!!
Her lectures are okay, the slides are good but she goes through them pretty fast. Honestly, I found her to be pretty unapproachable and intimidating. She wasn't ever the kindest or most understanding in my experience. The class is hard and I don't think she made it much better besides having good slides.
Either you love or hate Adams--that's for most students. If you do your work well and put in a lot of effort, you should be fine. Go to her office hours and talk to her individually. She's really sweet when she's not lecturing. She's a harsh grader though so beware.
I honestly love Professor Adams. She is a very particular grader but is always walking around and offering to help. She's not fond of people who slack off so work hard, put in the effort, and show her you care about doing well in the class.
Fantastic!!! professor Adams is strict but clear with what she wants. Do the homework every week to prep for the quiz and watch the lab videos. Very helpful during labs and will answer all of your questions. Fav Professor!!!
tough grader, but if u do the work you'll pass. always seems to schedule exams/practicums on the most inconvenient days but oh well. she's nice enough in lab, but very detailed in her quizzes - make sure you know your stuff before each lab day!!
seriously the best lab instructor. thoroughly enjoyed her class
Life threw me a ton of curveballs last semester so I wasn't able to get the grade that I wanted, but Dr Adams went above and beyond to help me out when it was obvious that my personal life was massively impacting my performance in the class. If I could turn back time, I would have prepped for labs earlier and completely mastered the hw problems
She is a tough grader, says her quizzes are like the homework but yet everyone in the class get 15/30 on them, but if you do fine on the labs you will be good but they are a lot of work and you have to know what you're doing with her or she reads right through you
She barely covers the basics but you have to do so much work on your own, demeanor in class is so unfriendly and uses a sense of humor that is rude and inappropriately targeted toward students. Yells at students during class for not paying attention, which is really disruptive for the students that are actually trying to.
Mrs. Adams was always very nice and loved talking to her students. She was very straightforward with lab expectations and procedures. I never felt lost or confused with how in depth her instructions were. Lovely professor who clearly knew what she was doing.
Prof. Adams always offered to spend time with me in office hours trying to help even if I wasn't the best student. She was willing to help any of us students out in any way. I really appreciated her knowledge and ability to convey it to those of us who knew so much less, and she did so with understanding. She was a terrific professor.
She was one of the best professors I ever had, never hesitated to spend more time with me when I needed it, always answered questions, had enough respect for us as learners to not be too easy but not too rigorous where we would get frustrated. A true mark of a great educator.
Professor Adams recently passed, but I still wanted to share. I had Adams for GC1, GC1+2 Lab. Day one she assured me that I would be successful if I worked hard, but more importantly, if asked for help. Sure, she taught me chemistry, but really, she taught me how to be a student. I am forever grateful for her. Sending love to the Adams family
RIP Dr. Adams
