Sucks at teaching.
Take a good amount of notes, class average on tests is usually a mid C. However, she does curve and about 90% of the test comes from the notes. 4 quizes and 4 tests. Quizes are easy and 20% of grade. No mid-term or Final just 4 regular tests.
It is rather difficult to take notes in her class. She gives us outlines and we have to write down what she says for each thing. It can be hard, especially if you're a slow writer or bad at listening. But still the class isn't that bad at all, just pay attention in class and you'll be fine. Also this teacher is pretty hot :D
She puts up a blank outline for the notes. You have to write the notes fast. The test grades are normally mid C but a lot of the questions come from the notes. Read the book to stay ahead of her. P.S. she is hot!
She did use a blank outline, so shorthand is helpful (or u could just highlight). Tests are pretty much from the book and outlines, so if you study those you're good.
This class consists of 4 tests and 4 quizes. You can earn up to 6 extra credit pts on each test. Quizes are easy, Tests are not bad but you have to understand concepts and not just definitions. No accumlative tests. If you go to class and take notes and study you will recieve an A. Not a difficult class if you but you do have to try.
real cute teacher. class isnt that hard
She is a young teacher and doesnt seem to have it all together. Shes hard and her tests are too... If your not a Liberal or Demicrat, dont take her... Her comments and the way she writes the tests are bias... I went for help and she blew me off... I would not recomend her.
Anybody can do good in this class. She gives you a lot of chances. She is real helpful. She may be quick on the notes sometimes, but that doesn't mean you can raise your hand to ask her to repeat it. Test are from the notes(basically hands down). I highly suggest this one. Oh like other people mentioned, she is young and hot!
She's ok. She seems nice but gets easily aggravated if you ask her to repeat something; she will repeat it for you but in a rude tone will say "its in the book!" She speaks quickly; her tests are hard and if you take this class you better look at your sil. to check when quizzes are because she never reminds you!
The class is very easy . She is very nice and she gives a lot of extra credit. A very easy A!
Young teacher. She is not biased in any shape or form, nor are her tests. If you ask about her political stance she will tell you that it doesn't matter, that you should think about your own because she doesn't want to lean you in either direction. She gives ample X-credit. Doesn't hurt that she's good on the eyes either. Recommended
Young teacher, easy going, uses WebCT to communicate. Very helpfull, gives TONS and TONS of extra credit. Just study the class outlines and read the articles and its extremely easy to get an A. Just be aware that the online quizes have ridiculously tricky questions and so do the tests , but never more than 2 on quizes and 10 on tests.
she gives extra credit and outlines. Good teacher.
Great professor. Very easy class just study and understand the outlines on the power points and you'll do great. Also offers alot of extra credit just in case. She is also very approachable in case you are having trouble.
Great teacher. The book is a great supplement to her lectures. She is not boring at all and everynow and then she will pull up videos from youtube and online news network to reiterate her lecture points. Very cute teacher as well. Highly reccommend!
Teaches very clear. Attendance is not really mandatory but helps with understanding. Did not need the book. 4 test and quizzes, not hard at all! Definitely recomend her!
i love her, you dont really need the book attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade, i would definitely recommend her. i just wish she you teach more classes
Amazing professor. She makes the subject interesting and is easy to listen to. Pretty easy class if you attend each one and take thorough notes. Her quizzes and tests come directly from her lectures so there is no need to read the book. She gives at least 10 points of extra credit per test so it is not hard at all to get an A. Highly recommended!
Okay professor. Seems fresh out of college. Her lectures are bias towards liberal views and she doesn't look at other perspectives. Sometimes she doesn't seem to know what she should and gets annoyed if you question it. But it's enough for an intro course. Easy A. Most likely. You don't need a book, it's all lecture based tests.
Very unhelpful. Relies on you to ask your classmates for questions, and when you ask her she doesn't answer your question whatsoever, and beats around the bush about a silly question she could've answered. Half of review that she gives isn't even on test...so it's pointless. Inconsiderate on personal family issues...even though I never missed c
Great professor. As long as you go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. Exams are pretty much straight from class notes.
Great teacher! She discusses current events tied to lecture. Attend class and read your book and should do very well. I am not a politics fan, but I enjoyed learning from her.
She's really a great teacher, explains things well, and gives you plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Not to mention she's super hot too. ;)
i never got along with this teacher. she ended up failing me. stays on a liberal side, and if you ask her questions about certain things..at times she beats around the question. offers extra credit, but doesnt realle help any.
She is very nice!! Really easy to understand, tests pretty much straight from lectures so just attend the classes and read your notes from lectures and you'll be FINE! also, extra credit is offered per test which really helps and isnt too hard! i loved her and i hate politics!
Ugh, this teacher is such a total brat, she has this like "I KNOW i'm better than you attitude" Her class is ridiculously easy, but shes so rude that i hated her class. She's EXTREMELY LIBERAL, and pushes her side more than any other professor. She shouldve kept both rep. and dem. issue FAIR. but she didnt. easy A, horrible teacher
The tests were kinda hard even with hours of studying her lectures were dull most of the time. I did learn alot but If i were you, Id look for another teacher
If you go to class, listen, and take notes you should pass with a b or an a. The tests and quizes are tricky. She has an attitude like she is better than everyone. She sucks as a person but good teacher.
Politics was boring to me, but somehow I made it out with A. Her lectures are structured and easy to take notes from, but for some reason her tests can be difficult, I think it's the way she words it. On the plus side, she gave alot of extra credit since the elections were taking place and alot of her questions came from the quizzes.Go to SI
she started out nice but became extremely difficult, her tests are hard and she doesn't go over the material that's on the test, she's very unhelpful with errors and is overall a terrible teacher
I only needed 2 points to make a B but she told the class that she does not round grades! Good Luck if you take her!
terrible at helping you with problems that you are having in the class, even if it's her fault, tests are hard and the quizzes are tricky, get another teacher she's hard!
I went to class EVERY single day but yet came out of this with a D! The tests are tricky and nothing like what she tells you to study. I would recommend getting another teacher, she doesn't drop any grades. SHE IS A USELESS PROFESSOR.
Real easy Professor. If you get the chance definitely get her! All you have to do is go to class and take notes. All her test come from her lecture. Never opened my book once. Save money and do not buy the book. Oh and she is nice to look at.
I loved this professor! I didn't do well on the first test, but I went to her and she reviewed my test with me and I did better on the other tests. I got a B in the class- she does give a lot of extra credit, and makes up for not dropping the lowest test grade. Go to lectures and find someone to study with before the test, you'll be fine!
She's nice, she has a lot of exra credit & her notes are super clear! Just read your book, go to class if not you'll see it in your grade, and go over your notes before a test and you'll get b+ if not an a. And if you don't do as great on a test you can always go to her office and she'll go over the test w/you. SI is helpful too!
She is an overall good professor. She has outlines that she goes over in her lectures. 99% of the test material comes straight from her lectures, so you NEED to come to class everyday. There is no neeed to buy the book. The tests and quizes can be a little tricky but just make sure and review your notes well.
Her online quizzes suck. She uses trick answers and only gives you 13 minutes. All of the tests come from her lecture notes. GO TO CLASS!
Prof Aleman is a GREAT teacher. She knows exactly what she's talking about and tests are easy to study for. She has extra credit on just about everything and there isn't much reading you need to do if you go over your notes enough.
She is so great! Super helpful, her door is always open if you have questions. tests are 100% lecture based... go to class. dont need the book really... unless you just want a better understanding. You have to kind of work for your grade.. the answeres arent just handed to you, but take good notes and youll make an A/B+
She is an extremely helpful teacher! her tests and quizes are straight from the lecture and if you take good notes you'll be fine! She is super understanding and makes politics soo easy to understand!
Real nice lady, class is fun with her and her lectures are not the usual look online for slide show kind of notes either. Her tests and quizzes are a little rough in my opinion because I took excellent notes according to my friends who missed class and I had to drop the class because I could not pass them. Great teacher she knows her stuff :D
Prof Aleman was AWESOME. Super nice and helpful. Was willing to work with you if you didn't understand and you are always welcome to go see her @ office hours. Shes great about e-mailing and getting back to you on questions. But tests are a little hard. 100% lecture based. go to class!!!
She was the nicest Professor ever! She was super helpful and is always there when you need to ask questions. Super fast responses! Would definitely take her again. I took this class as a freshman seminar/learning communities class. In the meantime also took a politics class, and she helped me understand politics better than my actual politics prof!
In Short she's everything in the department and she's the best!
She is one of the best lecture teachers I have ever had and gives you many ways to gain extra credit! Definitely enjoyed learning politics with her.
Great class for an easy grade. The tests are completely over lecture notes-sort of, and there's almost no hw. Only thing I don't like is the extensive discussions that takes from class time. The textbook is used, but only to go into what she doesn't have time for in class. There's extra credit on tests, and she'll reply to emails.
Ok everyone, she's literally garbage. You WILL FAIL THIS CLASS if you don't go to SI sessions or do study sessions. I got a high B on this class, and that's just because of the book and study sessions. She isn't confident about her knowledge usually, and honestly going to class is useless just read the book. Don't believe "lecture based"
Debates in class almost every day, adding no info to the course material. At the end of a slide she might add to something earlier in the slide—these opinions of hers, you'll take it, (e.g. "justices don't really advertise their styles up front") and off-beat corner questions from the book will appear in cascade on the test. YOU WILL NOT GET AN A.
Does not have adequate knowledge of what she discusses beyond what she writes on her powerpoints. Often oblivious to major court cases and students questions will never get answered directly.
Professor Aleman made politics extremely intersting! Her lectures are facinating and we had interesting discusions in class. Her TA was very helpful and held study sessions for the tests. As long as you go to class, take notes, and go to study sessions you should be able to manage an A in this class.
Overrated. Doesn't care if students are failing or not. Lectures are boring and dry. Doesn't drop any grades or curves the test or really anything to help students. Unclear. I would not recommend her.
I am almost done with this semester and am in the B range so far. Many students are saying that she is not helpful but she is more than helpful when I have needed her. As long as you go to her lectures, follow the power points, take notes from the power points and read the sections from the book that relate to that, you will do great. Very good!
I loved Professor Aleman. She gets the class involved when talking in lectures. She asks questions and gives examples. You do need to attend class to go over the lectures because she elaborates on them. She is an easy grade as long as you go to class. The ebook is not much needed and homework is online without book. I would highly recommend her.
Aleman is the best!!! Highly recommend her. Show up to class, you'll get an A. She's also beautiful. Always gets students involved in the lecture. Very interactive. Love her.
Pretty straightforward class. One essay, a couple of online homework, 3 tests, and a non-cumulative final. You must go to class because her tests are TOTAL lecture so you don't have to read the book at all. Also, she's not as mean as she seems I promise lol. And she's pretty good looking if you actually care about that...
Fairly easy class. But all the online work is beyond confusing because her grading system is incoherent. There aren't any straightforward directions in this class, just roundabout answers to questions. She's nice, her assignments are just unnecessarily confusing. Could be worse for a PoliSci class though. I'd recommend coming to class.
This class was fairly easy. Read the text and you will be fine, but if you want to make an A you need to attend class because she will put things from her lecture on the exams that aren't necessarily in the book. She's well organized and very helpful if you attend her office hour.
Her tests are extremely hard! Read the assigned chapter, print out the power points before class and take good notes. Don't' use your phone or talk in class because she will call you out. She is big on interacting with the class so speak up if you can. Avoid skipping class because you won't pass if you do.
FINE with the typical UTSA scores
Attendance is an absolute must for this class. The test are lecture based.
Prof. Aleman is one of the better Politics professors at UTSA, mainly because her lectures aren't dry. Highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the material and current events before class, it makes participation easier and the lecture go by faster. Slides are online, some quizzes that can be tricky, but the extra credit helps with that.
Professor Aleman's online PoliSci class was reading intensive but she makes excellent use of Crash Course videos to make the content clearer and provides good video lectures. Her tests are difficult so you really have to work for your grade, but she's really accessible if you have any questions and she's a very fair grader. I really liked her.
Her online course for the summer isn't too difficult. Her quizzes and tests can be tricky, but most of the information comes from the modules on blackboard, other questions are conceptual. The workload is doable (usually 2-3 journals and quizzes per week). Provides a lot of extra credit for tests so an A is a very possible. Definitely recommend.
The summer course wasn't too bad. If you keep up with your weekly journals and quizzes, you'll be fine. The quizzes and exams were kind of confusing, but most of the material is from the module lecture videos. Extra credit was offered, which can boost your current grade to the next letter grade. She gives great feedback in a timely manner.
Her online courses aren't difficult if you watch the lectures and study. There isn't very much homework and it's easy to stay on top of everything. She will answer emails and makes her office hours known but there aren't any essays or difficult projects.
Her online class is easy aside from the three extremely difficult tests, I would not recommend her at all. This is a freshman level class that has needed more attention and work than most of my upper level classes.
Do not take this professor. The same exact course is offered with another professor who is/will be more understanding.
If you have mixed reviews on talking this professor than don't take her. Tough grader, no curve, almost diminished the point in trying once your in your grade average 80-89, because she will not bump up an average. After taking her, I only wish I would have taken someone else. If you are shooting for an easy A forget it.
I think she's a writing teacher but forced to be a politic teacher. Grading on your writing skill, grammar, and sentences structure
She should change to teach WRC. She is harder than my writing teacher. Grading is inconsistent. If you r good at writing, take her class.
Hard test. Awful grading. Quizzes are hard only 4 -5 questions.. notes don't help. Journal entries are graded for every detail. Takes off for every little error as if it was an English class. Bottom line do not take her. Absolutely Awful.
Easy A forsure!! weekly journals were graded by the TA so super lenient. All test questions come from the module notes! Some are basic real world questions like if trump won the popular vote or not? Replies to emails quick! Drops the lowest journal grade and quiz grade and gives up to 11 points extra credit on every exam!!!
You've been warned. I never thought that a teacher could be so lazy. I could honestly learn the material better on my own than her lectures. Her test are straight up from questions online. She tries to change up some words to make it look like her own. Honestly, her only perk is that she offers extra credit. Bottom line, get into a different class.
I took POL 1013 online- an amazing course instructed by an amazing professor. She was always willing to answer questions via email in a timely matter and provided a ton of extra credit. Tests are a little difficult but reading and paying attention to weekly lectures helped!
Don't take this class if you just want to use Quizlet for every test answer. She makes her tests personally, so Quizlet does not work. All lectures are posted online and tests come directly from the lectures, so they aren't very hard. You have one journal per module, and 3 or 4 quizzes (all online). Offers up to 11 extra credit points per test.
Exams questions are almost all scenario based. She also was not sympathetic to me when I told her I would be unable to turn in my weekly assignment because I had the flu and strep throat. I got a 0 because I was sick. If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't it. If you're STEM trying to take the required GOV class, try someone else.
Took this course during the summer, so it was fast paced. Professor Aleman's lectures were prerecorded and easy to follow. However, the tests were a bit difficult, 30% of the stuff we never went over and there is no review. She offered only 4 points EC for each test, which I wish she offered more. The class isn't hard to pass, just hard to get an A
Professor Aleman would always reply to any of my questions through email in a timely manner! Be prepared to read and watch her lectures before taking any of her test. Overall, a great course and amazing professor!
This class isn't too hard there are barely any assignments but get ready because the exams are hard and way 60-70% of your grade. Barely any extra credit, you really have to know your information because taking the exams, her lectures are short and don't provide enough. I mostly used crash course as a way to study.
One extra credit assignment just not worth it. Tests are solely based on her lectures so having the text book was pointless. her quizzes and inquizatives are easy but tests weigh so much.
She is a great Professor, but unfortuntely the test are worth so much that doing bad on once test will make it impossible to get an A. I made C on my first test and everything else was A's and I still ended up with a B (86)
Material can sometimes not be specific so on test day despite studying it is hard to get the answer right.
I took her online (so I don't know how she is in-person), but her recorded lectures were 100% of the exams. I did not even read the textbook once and got an A. I would read it just in case, but it is not necessary. Take detailed notes on lectures and prioritize attending class. Her video quizzes help your grade. Exams were sorta difficult though.
If you know someone else taking the class split the cost of the book with them. she told us to not bother with the book unless she explicitly mentions to read a part of it during her lecture so only take notes on lectures. All grades are basically tests/quizzes other than a project
Only one weekly assignment and its answering questions from a video. Keep up with the lectures and the tests will be fairly easy
Great professor
Her class definitely isnt a breeze, but its manageable. Her exams are 65% of your grade, but theyre 100% from her lectures so if you study just that you should be fine. (Lectures are short so that helps). Weekly current event quizzes and one project at the end. This class does require more of your time, but shes a great professor!
This class is definitely a challenge. However, think of it like facing Thanos (3 exams) but you're given the avengers... and an iron man (the lectures). You'd really like your chances then! And the video assignment is so easy, turn it in early and you get 5 points extra credit. Also weekly video quizzes to stay aware of the current world. Simple.
It was a very easy course to get an A In. Weekly quizzes tare an easy 100. Exams are directly from her lectures which makes them easy to study for. There's extra credit throughout the course and as long as you email her she will try to help you the best she can. Didn't take much of my time weekly. Loved the course and would take her again.
Professor Aleman was very articulate and wanted her students to succeed in her class. She was accessible outside of class and responded to emails.
Good Professor, definetely cares. Tests are a little hard and you can honestly get away with not having the book but I probably could've done better had I actually used it. There is 1 video project, weekly quizzes ,and 3-4 exams.
took as online course & was super easy to follow and pass! did a weekly video quiz w 3 exams total. exams are easy so long as you do the weekly quizzes, watch lectures, and take notes. has one major project but as well, very easy to do. offers extra credit for each exam as well.
Professor Aleman is a great professor! She is very passionate about what she teaches and it shows during her lectures. Every week she posts a lecture video with quiz and there is one project. Most of her tests were straightforward based on lectures, book, or any extra material she assigns. For every unit/test she gives an extra credit opportunity.
Her lectures are clear and are really helpful for the assignments. There's a quiz every week, 3 tests, and 1 project. Only time I needed the book was for the project (required source). The tests are fairly simple (open note). The quizzes are easy, and relate to a provided video (able to pull up video). If you're looking for an easy A, then take her
Very easy class. Very little homework. Easy to contact outside of class.
Lecture heavy. They are short, but 99% of test questions come from lectures. She reads extremely fast, so you have to constantly pause/copy/pause/copy, which takes forever. Tests will ask what was said in specific lectures. No need for the book, rent it from library. Overall, class wasn't bad, just wasn't a fan of the lecture/teaching style.
prof aleman is great! she responds to her emails really quick and is pretty lenient about stuff. there's usually a five question quiz once a week, which is super easy, and then a 15-20 min lecture video once a week. 95% of test material comes from her lectures, so textbook isnt really needed. i loved this class - it took up only 1-2 hours a week.
took intro to American politics online was not for me her online lectures were very monotone and from the book i was better off reading the textbook alone. test did have specific examples from lectures but gives reviews which was nice.
She's a tough grader. While there are extra credit opportunities, there are very few. She does not drop lowest grades and is not flexible with due dates. You will be dropped if you miss a certain amount of quizzes. No make-up work.
Great teacher overall! A couple of quizzes to test what you've read with the books provided in the syllabus and the occasional test added ontop of a weekly news quiz, she's a wonderful teacher!
Good online async class, weekly quizzes on current events, lecture videos weekly, and a few tests that you should study for.
This class was very straight forward and was not complicated at all. Honestly, I was able to learn about current events while also studying the material. The tests are based off of the lecture videos and if you wish to read it instead, their is a transcript available (helped with taking notes). She is a chill professor and I recommend taking her.
This was a straightforward class. There was a weekly lecture and a weekly quiz based on current events. The tests are based on the weekly lectures so as long as you listen to them and take notes you'll be good.
Prof. Aleman is one of the best professors you could take for politics. Weekly assignments were usually just a 5 question quiz on current events and a lecture video. Most of the stuff from the exams is based on the lecture videos, so I wouldn't buy the textbook unless you want to.
She was great! I took this class in the summer so it was pretty fast-paced but I had no trouble managing the course. There was one module per week that consisted of watching a 20-minute lecture and reading a chapter from the textbook. Exams followed the lectures and chapters identically. 10/10!
Weekly News Quiz due at the end of every week. Supplemental lectures provided. Exams are pretty easy.
Exams were pretty easy. There was only one weekly assignment for the most part, and they were very easy. Overall she was great!!
Only graded by a few quiz and exams, exams are 4 questions so if you miss one its already a 75, no retakes, tough exams and only 4. do not recommend this professor take someone else.
Lectures are pretty short and easy to get through - there is a textbook but you don't need it to be successful. Weekly participation grade/activities that are quite easy. As well as weekly quizzes and tests; might be different if not over the summer. May be a bit hard to get a hold of though, so prepare for that at least. Fine experience overall.
Very easy professor!! All of the test questions come from the lectures, with one 15-20 min lecture per week. There is one weekly current event quiz where you read an article or watch a short video and answer 4 questions (very straight forward and easy to get 100). Gives extra credit on tests. Take this class for an easy A!!
DO NOT TAKE HER. Shes a difficult professor and the quizzes are only 5 questions; if you miss any, you automatically get an 80 on it.
The online class was straightforward. It was the least homework-heavy class I have had.
Professor Aleman did a wonderful job with teaching this course! One of my favorite classes that I have taken in college for core requirements. There was not a lot of work which I really appreciated, and the recorded lectures were AMAZING! Exams were always very well put together on canvas. Overall was a wonderful experience in this course!
Interesting class. Lectures were very informational and straight to the point.
Professor Aleman's POL1013 class was a breeze! The weekly quizzes and easy exams made it a low-stress experience. The recorded lectures were super helpful, and unstuckstudy was a game-changer for prepping. Overall, a great choice for an online GE requirement.
Great class, great professor I'd take another class if I could. Easy "A"
