This class had two teachers. McGinley taught the second half, can sometimes become monotone in her lectures, but they are very specific! Her exam questions come directly from the lectures and in the beginning of each lecture she will let you know what you need to know by the end of it
You have TAs instead The labs are very easy and interesting. Of course, you need to read the lab book before class. Have weekly quizzes on the lab. The final is 200 and worth 33% of your grade. I highly recommend you to make flash cards of the quizzes weekly so that when you take the final you don't need to make flash cards by they are done.
Never seen him/her. TA is lecturing the class. Lab is interesting. Short weekly quizzes. Final is not easy.
I had the professor for both BIOS 222 and 351. She is very approachable and accommodating. A lot of points are easy to attain if you try because a lot of the lab is memorization. The practicals are tough because of the amount of material and they are a large portion of your grade. She is very fair and one of the nicest professors at UIC.
Dr. McGinley is an amazing professor and great mentor! She's passionate about her role and is willing to meet her students where they are. Dr. McGinley is genuinely interested in preparing her students for the application of biology outside of UIC. She is always ready to support students and willing to answer questions. Best Bio professor!
She genuinely cares about the success of students. If you put in effort she will try her hardest to help you get the grade you desire.
She does not reply to any messages! Picks her fav and very partial. The class grade is only based on the tests but you can drop one
Dr. McGinley is my all-time favorite BIOS professor at UIC. She is extremely passionate about the content she teaches and is very helpful during office hours. Her exams are straightforward, no trick questions. Pay attention to lectures and notes, you'll be solid for this class. She is seriously the best!
Dr. McGinley was one of the best professors I have taken at UIC. She did an amazing job at adapting to these unprecedented times and was alwasy willing to talk outside of class. She even had a class groupchat made where we could ask questions there instead of emailing. There were 3 exams and one big project which were not bad. 100% reccomend!
I am having this professor online because of covid-19 crisis, but she is highly recommended because she knows very well what students life is. Literally no professor does that. Easy A if you do all your homework on time. Exam are 3 and very easy, specific, and based on material
This professor is by far one of the best professors Ive had during my undergrad career. She cares for her students a lot and only a few professors actually portray that in what they do and the accommodations they make. She didnt want to cram in an extra week of work, so she dropped a few assignments. Shes also readily available through groupme!
She makes it very clear as to what you need to know for exams and even drops the lowest one. She also answers questions pretty quickly.
Dr. McGinley was easily one of the best professors I've had at UIC. Her lectures are very thorough, and she is extremely friendly and open to questions during her drop-in hours. She really cares and goes above and beyond to answer student questions. As long as you do the homework and watch the lectures, you can definitely succeed in her class!
professor Andrea is the sweetest, most caring professor I have ever had. she is super understanding & honest and she truly wants the best for her students. despite the online format of the lab, she made it super straightforward and organized. I would take this class 100 x if I could. you'll learn some very cool things w/ an amazing professor! 10/10
Dude, if you have the opportunity to take Embryo, TAKE IT!! You will literally learn sooo much (in a good, non stressful way). Dr. McGinely is amazing. I hope UIC gives her a raise. She's honestly the best Biology professor at UIC. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I wish I could take more classes with her!!
Best professor at UIC! The content is actually interesting and she is so nice. She answers our questions in the group chat so fast and makes us students feel very comfortable with reaching out to her. This is the only class that didnt make me break down during the Pandemic.
One of the best professors I have had at UIC. Although she is detailed in her explanations and lectures, the class is not difficult because she gives us everything we need in order to succeed. I think she is the most caring and the kindest professor at UIC. Very approachable and makes remote learning bearable unlike the other classes I took.
She is an amazing professor who very clearly cares about her students and their input. She makes herself very accessible outside of class to answer any questions. The grading criteria is clear and fair. This is the second class I have taken with her and hope to take any other classes she teaches!
She is one of the best professors I had at UIC. She is very caring and her lectures are well organized. She is super helpful and always ready to answer any questions. She cares about her students.
I have never used rate my professor until today because Professor McGinley is the nicest professor I've ever had. She is accommodating and one of the best.
Shes one of the best professors I have ever had and would definitely take her again.
Professor McGinley is the best. Not what you would expect from a 300 level lab, but this course was easy and simple. Taken with the lecture, it was really helpful in understanding the concepts of lecture. Professor McGinley was very empathetic and sent out encouraging emails, adjusted our schedule based on current events, and gave extra credit :)
Prof Andrea is one of the nicest professors at UIC and really cares about her students. She made everything clear and always gave good feedback. There were 3 exams, a project report and hw. She's a good grader and very approachable.
Professor McGinley made remote learning very doable. She held many review sessions and literally goes through all homework answers with us. Her exams are easy if you pay attention in class and review sessions. She even drops one exam. Additionally, she is very accessible in office hours. I definitely recommend her class to any BIO major at UIC!
Dr. McGinley made remote learning engaging and created an inclusive learning environment regardless of covid circumstances. Her syllabus is straightforward and sets fair expectations for the entire semester. Do the homework and show up to reviews and you'll learn a lot & get the grade you want. Lowest test grade is dropped and she's super cool!
Professor McGinley is great! I really wish I had more professors like her throughout college. She really cares that her students understand the content that she teaches (unlike many of my professors who fly through the powerpoints leaving students clueless). She is very caring and understanding. She made my learning experience fun and interesting
She is an amazing Professor. She reviews everything and saves the videos for us. Besides the helpful material, she is so helpful and caring. When you have a problem she will help you out. If you are here to decide whether you want to take a class from her or not, you definitely should take the class! 10/10 lectures 10/10 would take again
She is a very good Prof. with a very kind heart. She really cares about students and even replies to our doubt within a few hours or minutes. I would really recommend taking this prof. for BIOS351.
Professor McGinley is by far one of my favorite professors at UIC. She's so caring and super helpful. She is easy to reach and responds to messages in a timely manner. TAKE PROFESSOR MCGINLEY! Exams can be a little tricky but she has review sessions along with pre-recorded lectures so a good grade is definitely doable!
Professor Mcginley was one of the more laid back but at the same time very knowledgeable teachers. She was always more than happy to explain material, refer us to further examples or answer any questions. I would highly recommend taking her. Do the work, it's very straightforward and earn your A!
I really enjoyed this class! This professor cares about the students and wants the students to do well. Her lecture videos and review sessions are all you need to ace the exams. The homeworks are not hard, just follow instructions to give an A. Drops lowest exam and gives extra credit
In my opinion Dr. McGinley is one of the top professors at UIC. She is very caring, knowledgeable, and is easily accessible to us students. I put participation matters because if you want a good grade, show up to the review sessions and participate. It makes a huge difference! Not a lot of assignments. Take this class with Dr. McGinley!
Andrea is nice, but, I just wish she was nicer to me LOL! Overall, I enjoyed her class...........
I've genuinely never enjoyed a professor more than professor McGinley. She's so nice, uses the GroupMe chat to talk with us, and is constantly available / checking it to answer any questions. She goes above and beyond, 5 lecture attendances required for full credit and uses the live lectures to review homework before it's due. 10/10 recommended.
She's honestly such a sweet and kind hearted professor. She goes above and beyond to teach as much as she can in order for us to perform well on her tests. Gonna be honest, her tests are tricky. You can't just slack in the course and expect an A. Homework heavy and test heavy. 6 exams and about 20 homework assignments that take time. Highly rec!
The best professor ever! I am currently enrolled in her human embryology lecture and microbiology lab. She makes 8am classes bearable. Happy to be taking her again for embryology next semester. Wish she taught more classes.
Dr. McGinley is truly one of the best professors I've had at UIC. She's so understanding, chill, and really has the skill to be a GOOD professor on top of being so knowledgeable, which is rare. I'm sad I didn't take more classes with her before I graduate, but she def sets the bar high!
by far THE BEST professor at UIC (also took her for BIOS351). she is so kind & caring. secondly, she's passionate about what she teaches & it reflects because she genuinely wants u to learn & goes beyond to provide outside reviews so that we understand topics. her assignments & exams are self-explanatory. offers EC sometimes. TAKE HER if u can!!
Best professor I've had at UIC. She had review sessions to go over material and then that is what you see on the exam. We had to attend 5 reviews out or however many there were in the semester. You do have to know your stuff for the exams, but she makes it SO easy to understand. You won't regret it, you learn for sure.
Dr. McGinley is hands down the BEST teacher at UIC. I am amazed that she still teaches at this school when literally no other teach goes to this level of awesomeness. Best teacher, you will get an A if you're smart and do your work. Her stuff tests you on knowledge you actually should know, not should look for.
She is very understanding and always there for any questions regarding the lab. Her content is very clear and organized which allows the class to be easier. She is kind and always accessible in the time of help and as long as we keep up with the class. The class is well led.
Dr. McGinley is amazing. She is dedicated to answering student questions, being respectful of their cultures, and having great understanding of what goes on in their lives. We need that as students! I had her as a professor for three, yes three classes this semester (BIOS 351,325, 326) and wish she taught more classes! I always wish her the best.
Dr. McGinley was one of my favorite professors during my time at UIC. I was so happy to see she taught BIOS 325 after taking microbio lab under her instruction. The work she gives can be a little lengthy HOWEVER it is worth every minute put into it and really helps prepare you for exams. You can talk to her and she's so interactive and awesome.
Amazing woman, would 100% take any class with her. Embryology wasn't an easy course as it is content heavy with lots of new information, however she really does her best to make it doable and helps a lot.
She is the best professor I ever seen so far. I really love her class because she KNOWS how she make student study in positive way. Honestly, the embryology isn't easy material but if you take the lecture class, everything would be understandable. She's also caring students a lot, me and my friend called her our ANGEL. I love her. Take this class!
Professor McGinley provides a ton of helpful resources and responsive to student's questions. Take detailed and well-organized notes on the lectures because it will be helpful in doing well on the learning objectives as well as on exams. Although the exams can be detailed, staying on-track with all the materials and assignments is the key.
Absolutely LEGENDARY professor. Absolutely amazing. Words don't even do justice. Lectures are SUPER clear, homework is tremendously helpful in studying, and the exams are SUPER fair. Super fair grading too. The TA is cool too. Probably the most caring human being known in existence. This professor is the GOAT.
One of the best lab professors I have had the pleasure to meet. Keeps every student up to date and is extremely fair.
I love Prof. McGinley. She offers numerous options for extra credit and drops an exam (the final is also optional). She is an amazing professor: probably the best at UIC. She's super compassionate and caring and offers great options for future applications, i.e medical/clinical scenarios. Love her and would take her again.
Professor McGinley has got to be the best lab professor I've ever had, and she ensures that her students are successful with all the skills that are necessary to succeed in the lab. She's very caring and goes out of her way to help students!
Best professor at UIC, take her for embryo lecture, lab, and micro lab. Super accessible out of class and always wants to help, has extra credit worth usually from 3-5% at the end of the semester. Always drops lowest module score (micro lab), i believe she still drops lowest exam score (embryo lecture), and drops lowest quiz for embryo lab. Amazing
She is one of the best professors at UIC. I took embryology in Spring 2021 and microbiology lab in fall 2021 with her. Her lecture slides were organized and her lab videos were very helpful. Exams were very straightforward. Professor McGinley is so nice and was always there to help us.
Professor McGinley is the best professor, she also teaches bios 351. She is so caring because she understands that it's possible for most of us to not know the concept and she teaches it like we are on a beginner level, which is great.
Professor Bassett (McGinley) is by far the BEST professor I have had at uic. Cares for her students, and is the most understanding professor. Exams are slightly straightforward, and they all reflect everything on the slides. Study her slides well enough you'll do well. She also explain her material in multiple ways if there is a misunderstanding.
There is a few things due each Sunday and a few things for pre-lab. The work she gives is very simple. All weekly quizzes are straight from the provided material. The content is also fun to learn, because it is very hands on. She is very kind, and she truly wants to help students. This is my favorite lab I've taken at UIC so far.
Words cannot describe how amazing she is, I learned a lot in her class and didnt feel stressed because we had 3 late passes+ dropped assignments, she extends due dates if assignments overlap, if only all professors were this understanding! Pace of the class is great, you can actually take your time and enjoy learning instead of rushing. Tons of ec.
Professor Bassett was an absolute GOAT. Took her for several classes before, and she didn't disappoint with BIOS 351. TAs were GOATs too. Clear info, zero BS. Expectations are straight to the point and the lab was VERY enjoyable. Actually enjoyed doing the labs, they were fun.
I loved this Professor, she's really good and has the material prepared.
Didnt see prof unfortunately (TA), but lab was quite fun. Learned a bunch of new things and took what was previously learned and applied it to the microscope. Labs are fun and to the point. You do modules through the semester and get quizzed on what you learned. Dont miss too many labs as you will fall behind but gives 2 make up lab days as well.
Amazing professor who cares about her students, their grades, and them learning information rather than just memorize and wing it. By far one of my favorite classes and professors.
I had professor Bassett for bios 325 and 326 over the summer and it was amazing. The same thing applies for bios 351 because the class was very straight forward. Each week we had a skills assessment and pre lab quizzes that we had to complete along with module quizzes that were due each sunday. The exams are online and the lowest module is dropped.
She is the embodiment of a perfect teacher. She is very nice, accessible, and respond quickly. Gives great demo video of before each lab
Professor Bassett is an amazing professor. I had her for BIOS 350 and BIOS 326. She makes the subject easy and fun to learn. You can tell she cares a lot about her students as she is very accommodating and offers extra credit/drops. Definitely my favorite course/professor at UIC!
By far my favorite professor this semester. Prof. Bassett adjusts the class/coursework/exams to what is best for her students. We voted for our exams to be open note and that took a huge weight off of us. But we still enjoyed actually learning because she tied the material really well to real life, and the homework prepared us for the exams as well
I took 3 classes with her for 3 consecutive semesters. Hands down the among the best bios professors at UIC. I never had to think twice before registering for her courses. She's known to have well designed courses, content and assignments. You will enjoy learning from her insights.
Great professor! The class is organized really well and the content is straightforward. All materials are provided and no textbook is required. The professor is accessible outside of class and very responsive.
Best prof in the BIOS dept! Took embryo lab and lecture, microbio lab with her and got A's in all three. They are not blowoffs but not too hard eother. Definitely recommend taking her!
Dr. Bassett IS the best and nicest professor I have had at UIC as a Junior. She's willing to meet you outside of normal office hours. She will go through with you what you don't understand and makes it completely clear and concise. What she says for the in-person lectures will help you out on the exam.
Dr.Bassett is amazing! Her class was not too challenging. The structure of this course is one of the best I have ever experienced. Can not recommend her and her class enough
The professor was okay but I interacted with my TA during the labs and I felt like she was a harsh grader which made me anxious during the verbal quiz we too in the beginning of each lab. Overall as long as you do the work and show up to lab you will do well.
Honestly, this class really depends on your TA, but you don't get to meet them until after the 2 week drop period. I had a really good TA, so this ended up being one of my favorite class I took, but other people were in the trenches because of a bad TA. Bassett is seems really nice in pre-lab videos, but I never saw her in person. HOMEWORK HEAVY!
One of the best professors I have had at uic. She creates super helpful slides for learning each stage of the embro cycle, and practice quizzes in class to help you prepare for the exams. Definitely take this class with 326 because each week is on the same page. You can go to her during office hours if you need her to break things down for you.
No. Just NO.
LOVE this professor! The way she explains everything is amazing, making embryology easy to understand. She reiterates everything we need to know and that also makes all the material clear. I would take her for all of my subjects if possible!
I encountered some challenges with the course. Despite the online format of the exams, I found them to be quite rigorous and intricately detailed. Nevertheless, the lectures were engaging and truly fostered a desire for learning. The professor demonstrated a high level of amiability and respect towards the students. I would highly recommend her.
As long as you stay caught up in the assignments you will get an A, the class is very easy overall.
Dr. Bassett made this lab very manageable and required little work outside the lab! Just study the slides before the 10 question quiz and its an easy A
Best professor at UIC so far!!! I really enjoyed her class. She likes to teach and always makes sure that everyone understand the topic.
I love Professor Basset! You will not regret taking her Embryology Lecture OR the Lab. The ONLY downside is the amount of credit hours the lab is worth. I feel like it could have been 2-3 credit hours. There is work due every week, but it was never hard work!
One of the best professors at UIC. She actually cares about her students. The class is challenging but if you attend review sections and do your part
Prof Bassett actually cares about her students and wants them to learn. She assigns learning objectives for every unit to make sure everyone is on track not to overload you with assignments because everyone gets a 10/10. The exams are online, but are difficult, you won't find answers on slides or online. You have 2 dropped exams (one exam + final).
Exams are TOUGH, so avoid relying on online sources, and take good notes when studying. She offers extra credit opportunities which helps a lot. other assignments are manageable if you take good notes. Collaborate with classmates bc it is a dense material and questions ask for detailed answers. In this class, note taking is a MUST.
The best at UIC. The best.
She made this class so easy! loved her
You are the best professor. Take her class for an easy A. But, you will not recive the if you get marks off on homework and tests which are extremely difficult.
Straightforward class. A quiz every week which is easy to complete as long as you are up to date with the weekly powerpoint.
Great teach love her
This course was very easy as long as you attend labs. Very interesting course and I will carry my knowledge from this course throughout my career.
Best professor at UIC. Actually cares for the success of all the students. Made the content easy to learn and enjoyable. Definitely would take her again. 10/10!
Lab was really interesting. Not too much work. Just show up the two days and you'll be fine.
Professor Bassett is one of the most caring Biology Professors at UIC. She cares about her student's ability to learn and how to help them. honestly, the exams and HW were pretty difficult, but if you watch the pre-recorded lectures and write good notes, the class is fun.
Prof. Bassett is truly an awesome prof. who cares for her students. Attendance is mandatory. HW due every week or other week, but be prepared because it is time consuming. However, if you attend lectures, the homework will be a breeze. Exams are difficult. Watch pre recorded lectures and attend lectures. Material is super interesting!
Such a great professor! She herself doesn't really have slides or videos on lecture material since this is a lab course, but she provides many resources for us to do well. All the TAs are great at well, and are very fair; they don't take away unnecessary points. Super easy A if you go to every lab, and do all assignments. Loved it!
this literally such an easy class but take it with someone or you might get stuck with a bad lab partner which could ruin your grade. this class is super helpful into getting used to the lab setting though some work becomes tedious by the end. practicals are mostly common sense if you pay any morsel of attention.
The professor is great at what she teaches and has a clear grading criteria. She also offers a good amount of extra credit and treats students graciously. I think BIOS 325 is the best elective you can take.
She is very organized and knows what she is teaching amazing !!
Very kind and organized! She responds to messages very quickly and is very accessible. She provides many opportunities for extra credit. There are non-test assignments in this class, and all lectures are recorded. She goes off the text-book in case we need to reference something, but her presentations are clear enough to get by without the book.
Exams are a little tricky. Have to put time in to do good.
Professor Bassett is a wonderful teacher. I learned a lot from her lectures and her slides are so detailed. There is also plenty of opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. So make sure to take advantage of them.
The class has three types of assignments. Quiz, lab, and exams. The exams and quizzes can be easy if study enough. The lecture recordings are always available. Sometimes the information in the lectures and slides are not clear for me.
Professor Bassett truly cares about how her students do in her class she offers many opportunities to get your grade to where you want it to be. Her lectures are also very reflective to what will show up on the exams so, as long as you listen to the lectures, you will do good.
The professor was good, but the exams were tricky. But even if you don't do well on the exams, the assignments help boost your grades. Gave a decent amount of extra credit to also help boost your grade.
Exams are lecture based and you can use notes on them. Attendance is extra credit, but participation through acadly questions is mandatory. class is interesting, especially for pre-health majors. There's homework that helps boost grades after exams.
She is an awesome professor and provides numerous opportunities for extra credit. She is very detailed and very positive in her take on lectures and exam preparedness.
Will get a good grade if you study a lot. Read through labs before class will make that part of class easier.
Class was easy when u study for it
Really nice teacher. I would say to make sure you study the content well.
She is a good teacher. She gives a lot of opportunities for grades. I think her class is very good and easy.
