She is a very knowledgeable in her subject. She apply's the concepts to nursing even though it is not a nursing specific class. Her tests are fair, but questions can be vague. Always willing to give feedback on projects and papers. Overall good instructor!
Andrea loves what she does! She is very outgoing and even though a lot of the content is common sense, she makes class interesting. Her attitude is infectious and she is very willing to take the time to help students outside of class and even outside office hours. She's awesome!
Extremely friendly and fun. Tries to make class fun and interesting. She loves what she does(teaching). By her own personal life stories outside classroom, she loves a good fight whenever she sees something unfair to patients. Very assertive.
Had her for lecture and lab. Awesome teacher. Very knowledgeable and gives great feedback. Makes class interesting and understands we have a heavy course load. Highly recommend!!
excited to be teaching, likes to show movie clips, lots of experience
Andrea is so enthusiastic! This actually turned out to be one of my favorite courses. Didn't have midterms, just assignments and a final. Class activities were fun.
Andrea=awesome. She is fun, has a good sense of humor, if she can't tell u how to tackle a communication issue....no one can. Hates George bush,as do most of the faculty seemingly, but not sure why, I Thot he was ok considering he kept getting voted in. Enjoy! A class that is layed back.
Andrea is an awesome prof. Her lectures are very interesting and interactive. She is very helpful and wants her students to succeed. One of my favourite classes thus far!
She was always willing to help, answered e-mails quickly, and had great stories and advice. What she wanted from written assignments wasn't always 100% clear since she wanted a lot of things so it's tough organizing papers, not to mention the assignments were both reflective so it might be challenging for those who prefer doing scholarly.
Fun course. Makes you think about how you communicate and the effect it has on others. Super nice and advocates for students.
Honestly, if you make the most of her assignments, which admittedly can be difficult and tedious, you will definitely learn and get a good grade. She always answered all my emails quickly, even on weekends and she is super nice.
If you do your assignments and learn from them you will do fine. She always answers emails promptly and is willing to answer any questions.
Andrea is a great prof. She's easygoing and really wants you to succeed. She's a pretty easy grader. Although it seems like a class you can skip, it's a lot easier to take the notes in class than from the textbook. Everything is very clear with her. If you need help with situations outside of class, she's there.
Prefers questions in class to be for clarification only, not to add to discussion. Does not like to have her ideas or concepts critically examined. Take what she lectures as gospel and you will do fine.
So supportive. Understands the demands on us. Encourages discussion in class. Not sure the previous comment is accurate as she was always open to hearing our opinions. Looking forward to having her in second year. If you didn't learn from her you won't learn from anyone.
I loved seminar. Focused, practical and I learned a lot.
Always available to help. Approachable, easy to talk to. Loved learning about health and the SDOH
Loved this class. Andrea is by far my favourite instructor this term. I learned so much from her. Can't wait to have her again in second year.
Andrea filled in for our instructor. THANK YOU ANDREA!
First off, Andrea is HILARIOUS and sarcastic af. The course is overall pretty easy. Her tests are fair but sometimes have tricky questions. Not many assignments but she does have one heavy weighted assignment which isn't hard, just time consuming. Would definitely take one of her classes again, she makes it fun.
Very funny, teaches in a way that you don't know you're actually learning. Very little readings/homework/projects. Super easy marker.
Andrea is an amazing person to say the least. She cares so much about her students and makes sure her class discussions are fun. It's not hard to do good in her class and no writing papers!! Watched a couple films, and played games. Not enough good things I can say about her. Stay in her class if you're lucky enough to have her!!
I had Andrea for 275/277 seminar and she was excellent! She is very intelligent, charismatic and downright hilarious! Every seminar had a purpose and she really tried to prepare us well for our clinical rotations in medicine and surgery. Thank you, Andrea!
Awesome course.
Take this course from Andrea. I can't wait to take my next course with her. I chose my pattern so I could be in her class and it's from 4-6 pm so that tells you something.
Andrea was always available to help. Responds to emails quickly. Wants you to succeed.
SDOH. SDOH. SDOH. SDOH. That's all I remember but she is the best!! She is SO hilarious and just wants her students to succeed. She takes feedback and tries to change her teaching based on student feedback. SUPER approachable. Talk to her whenever you want! She's awesome. She saw me in the hallway once and gave me a cookie, haha. Funny stories too
Unorganized and hard to follow. Avoid if you can . I got nothing from this class.
Attendance is mandatory as a big percentage of marks comes from participation. She is a very fair marker, and she truly cares about her students.
Best prof so far. I learned so much about the nursing process and how the truly care for patients. Can't thank Andrea enough! Hope to have her again in the program.
Loved this course
This course was challenging. I really liked and appreciated how Andrea discussed the NCLEX prep and implemented case studies to help us learn to read exam questions. Midterm was difficult, but I learned a lot. I think she set us up well for going into second year. Not enough lecture time for this course.
I really enjoyed seminar and it helped me in the clinical setting. The case studied and concept map helped me tie concepts together.
Thus seminar helped me tremendously in the clinical setting. Thank you Andrea.
I loved this course. I had no idea our health was impacted by so many factors. Andrea challenged us to think about all the factors and how one influences another. Some students didn't like being challenged to think deeper but how are they supposed to help others if they don't want to learn what influences the health of their future patients.
I met with Andrea late in the afternoon a few times for help on my concept map. She was always available to help.
Andrea has a special place in my heart! Such a sweet prof and wants everyone to do well and succeed. A little effort goes a long way in her class. Quizzes are an easy 100% and she's fair on her writing assignments. No midterm!! I highly recommend.
Andrea is my favourite prof so far in the program. She's super funny and caring. Can be a tough grader, but the quizzes are an easy 100% and there are no midterms. She tells you attendance isn't mandatory but there's a ton of discussion in the class so its best to go. Would 100% recommend
Andrea is honestly the best. She is understanding and really cares about her students. She is always ready to help and answer any questions that you may have. I love her and hope to have her again as one of my pros. Even if she isn't she is always friendly and loves to chat with people.
I would probably die for Andrea. She is a very wholesome prof who really cares about her students. Her teaching style is very laid back, but it's also very informative and important. This is my second class with her and even when teaching different subjects she's very consistent in her style. Great at non-judgementally answering questions.
I love Andrea. She is hands down my favourite professor. Hlst 152 as a course is kind of dry but she is hilarious to listen to. Shes really supportive of her students and genuinely wants everyone to succeed.
I would take any class with Andrea. Awesome prof. Student focused and heavily advocates for students.
Andrea was funny in class and likeable, but whenever I would see her in the halls she would have a sour look on her face. It made me feel that what she portrayed in class was not fully accurate, but I understand that everyone has bad days! Not very many assignments, which was nice, but was a tough marker. Not clear where I lost marks. Love the dogs!
Andrea is so kind and caring. Loved her class. I learned so much about Nursing and it all helped in my clinical.
Loved this class
We did a lot of care plans. This helped our group out enormously in clinical. Andrea tests on application of knowledge and talks a lot about how to prep using HESI for second year. The case studies done in class were difficult by very helpful when we reviewed in class.
Andrea is truly one of a kind. She genuine and wants us all to succeed. She helped me out so much when I felt I was struggling and had no one to turn to. She stopped me in the hallway just to check in to see how I was doing.
Dont really understand how Andrea has good ratings, one of the worst professors i have had in my 4 years of nursing. Her assignments were awful and lectures completely went against her expectations. Try and take a different prof if you can.
Andrea is hands down the best prof I've ever had, she can sometimes be a tough marker but she gives lots of great feedback. She is extremely accessible outside of the classroom and always willing to meet with students. It's obvious that she genuinely cares about her students.
I loved this class. Andrea's way of teaching the social determinants of health didnt even feel like a lecture. Really knowledgeable about the course and content material and makes connections to how this will help us in our program
Honestly my favourite nursing prof I had thus far. She was very understanding and accommodating considering everything was online due to Covid. She had very engaging weekly live lectures and was easy to contact outside of class or after lectures. One of the few profs that seem to genuinely care about your experience and progress in the program.
Andrea was such an amazing prof. She genuinely cares for her students and wants to see you succeed.
I really did not think I would learn much in this communications course. I was wrong. I will be a much better nurse and human being because of this course.
I did not enjoy this course at all and don't think I learned anything. Andrea does not care about students and can be quite rude.
Andreas assignment expectations are very unclear, and her feedback is always hand written so you will need to connect with her directly for clarity. Personally, I found her hand writing illegible. There was no final exam but I would have preferred one. In my opinion she is an unnecessarily difficult marker.
Andrea is the kindest and the best advocate for students. She genuinely cares about her students and makes sure we get the best education and opportunities. I had her for lab and she advocated for extra time, and she works with us one on one to make sure we get the skill down! Get her for any class you won't be sorry!
I loved this course so much. I will be a better nurse because I value the importance of professional communication in the work place. Andrea was always available when we needed her and she clearly explained all assignments multiple times. Andrea was never rude in or outside of class.
Andrea is one of my favourite profs. She genuinely cares about students. Always available. Responds to emails up until midnight and one at 4am. Helped prepare me for a job interview.
I cannot say enough about Andrea and being in her lab. I learned so much from her and she genuinely loves to teach and see us succeed. I would not have passed this course without her guidance in lab.
Answers right away to your emails even at night! She genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed! I had her for lab and she helped us with the theory component too! Very smart and easy class to attend she makes it fun and makes sure you understand. If you struggle she will work with you until you succeed! 10/10 prof take her!
She is incredibly rude. Don't need to go to class just do the readings. Doesn't give extensions and isn't very forgiving to students who are handling a heavy course load and seems as if she truly doesn't want her students to succeed. Avoid at all costs. This class is a waste of time.
Would NOT recommend her for HLST154, she is a very difficult and unclear marker with many papers and a heavy workload. Most other teachers for this class have a significantly lighter workload. She comes off as quite rude as well especially when trying to email her. Her lecture don’t add anything to your learning. Take another prof is you can.
Extremely heavy class, other students in different HLST154 classes have a lot lighter course load. She does NOT seem to enjoy teaching and avoids helping students at all costs. Good luck emailing her, she will reply with 2-3 words and tell you to go read what's on blackboard. I would not recommend taking her class.
Wouldn't take HLST154 with this prof. Extremely unhelpful with questions regarding assignments. She also takes forever to mark assignments.
I have read the negative reviews from fellow classmates. Clearly they chose not to learn from professor Andrea. If you don’t want to do the work and want an easy out and easy grade take the course from someone else. I chose to learn and have learned a lot about professional communication. Hiding behind anonymity is not professional.
I really struggled this term and Andrea was kind and empathetic to my situation. She pushed us to practice in lab and really focused on clinical reasoning. Sometimes I didn’t want to go to lab but Andrea helped me get through. Take lab with her if you get the chance. She responds so quickly to emails even late at night. Wants to see us succeed
I loved this course. Learned so much.Andrea gave many extensions on assignments and always answered our emails, even at 3 am. So kind.
Andrea is an awesome professor. Don't let the other comments deter you from forming your own opinion. My classmates are temperamental entitled bullies that cheat. When they get their way, they blame Andrea. Welcome to nursing! Get over it and work hard. Maybe opening a book would help my classmates.
This is a practice lab which means we have to practice our skills. We will be working with human beings and Andrea stresses competence. she expects us to use time wisely and is willing to come help us when needed. She expects us to be self-directed and motivated. We are not in high school anymore and she will not coddle you or engage in pouting.
Andrea is fun to be in class with but her assignments are way too vague and you have no idea how you are being graded. When you email for clarification you will receive a two word response. I really enjoyed her as a person but I wouldn't take a class with her again.
I loved this course. I learned so much that can be applied to Nursing. Assignments were reflective, and marking guides were clear. No exams, so we had a few papers to write. Nothing overwhelming. If you used her feedback it helps improve your writing. I liked that the readings were from open educational resources.
Her assignments guides are too vague, and you have no idea how you are being graded. Would not take her class again
No exams in this class, just papers. Paper outlines are very vague but she marks super easy. Not very open to extentions. Don't need to do the readings. First 15 min of class is used to colour in a colouring book. Attendance is taken and you are expected to do a self-grading assignment at the end on your participation in class. Overall decent prof.
Terrible prof. Go to class unless you want to loose marks. Has no respect for students.
Amazing prof. Student whined about extensions. She gave lots to us. Yes she wants you to come to class, why else would you be in a program.
Had Andrea for lab. I learned a lot from her .
Great prof
The assignment was awesome. I have a certificate to use with my resume. Loved the interactive lectures and guest speakers. Take this course with Andrea if you can.
Andrea introduced me to mindful colouring as a mental health strategy to deal with stress. We coloured and did breathing exercises at the beginning of each class. The exercises I used with my patient in clinical and they really helped my patient. Andrea also laminated a communication board for me to use with my patient that spoke Spanish.
she is quite literally the worst professor to walk the earth. she makes 0 sense, grades off her opinions. extremely out of touch with current assessment guidelines. she would often leave the lab for long periods to get coffee and expect us to teach ourselves, and get mad when asked for help. also extremely condescending. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Andrea is a very nice person and has great nursing stories, HOWEVER, she now does do exams in this class (2023), and they are not fair and are very application-based. She makes the lecture seem like this class is going to be very easy, but then you take the exam, and the questions are unfair, and you get a very low mark. Physiology is easier.
I had Andrea for communications, and she is a decent professor. The tests were fine, and I didn't find them that bad, but definitely not the best. I only say I probably wouldn't take her again because I didn't always like her personality. I found her to be rude and snappy sometimes. She also demands you submit things hard-copy, which I can't stand.
Loved this course.
I loved the open textbook. Saved me money. Thanks Andrea
I really liked this course. I know it was a tough term for Andrea, but she showed up every day. I liked the worksheet she provided and the interactive board game.
Andrea is kind and knowledgeable. Even the text book is free to access. But her exams are difficult. Her classes seem really easy but the exams are equally tricky and difficult. It was fun to learn from her stories and her class is interactive and interesting. I felt I did better in other science courses than this one. Would not take her again
Andrea did not communicate with me or my group which is very unusual considering the course is Professional Communication; any communication we did receive was in simple sentences. Overall she was not an effective professor and did not provide enough support for my group. Additionally, she did not hand back assignments until the last day of finals.
Andrea is very fair and approachable. If you pay attention and attend classes you will do well.
I learned so much in this class on the social determinants of health and how they impact people.
Andrea is awesome and will spend as much time as needed to answer questions. Her clinical judgement questions are tough but we need to know this to provide safe care
This course is really interesting and very engaging. Tough topics discussed but with safety and trigger warnings. I love the application of knowledge through LEGO and discussion questions.
she came in after the original prof left. gave the class an open book exam; tough but fair loved her teaching style
Andrea was a tough grader for papers, she gives "feedback" but it's not that helpful. Majority of my peers followed her "feedback" and got lower marks on their second paper. And when correcting her, she gets really defensive. I would recommend avoiding her as a prof.
Andrea is a nice professor with engaging stories, but her assessments can be tricky. The free textbook is helpful, and her class is interactive. I found unstuck study useful for studying alongside the course materials.
I loved Andreas Class. She was fair with her marking for essays and assignments. Her lectures are never boring because she always shares real life examples.
Need to listen to what she is saying about assignments.
I learned what nursing really means
Rude and condescending. Incredibly disrespectful and it shocks me that this behaviour is accepted by the faculty.
Andrea was VERY intimidating at first I actually was scared of her, as the semester went on I grew to love her and she was very funny and shows she cares for you. Midterm was hard to be honest more definition heavy than critical thinking. be ware to take LOTSSS of notes and SHOW UP TO CLASSSS. write everything down she says
First day, was definitely intimidated and scared but she warms up so fast and by the 3rd class I LOVED her. She has so much knowledge and stories to share to make us laugh and help with our learning. Her midterm was a bit harder, definitely have to study for it but not awful. She gave hints for final and did lots of worksheets and activies to help.
