lectures seemed easy professor was pretty clear but the tests were too hard only a few multiple choice most short answers. test material was based more on her lectures than on the book.
She's really into what she teaches, which is good, but her exams can be a real pain. Pretty much memorize her notes and you'll be sort-of ok. I'm currently taking her bio 301 course and she's also making us wrire a research paper. Not too easy, but overall she's pretty cool.
Use the notes as a study guide for the textbook and put a strong emphasis on the notes. When writing the paper, avoid plagarism at all costs. Exams are straight forward but there are writing questions. Generous grading curve. You will do well if you understand the notes.
Very easy A if you just show up and pay attention. She is very into her teaching and does a good job of explaining Biology.
i love how she laughs at her own jokes...its corny but shes good
Good Prof, really knows her stuff and is enthusiastic about the course. Is a bit goofy (her words). Lectures and book are vital. Tests can be tough as there is a LOT of info covered, but if you study you will do well. Does have a tendency to nitpick in grading and dock .5 points here and there which is annoying. Overall I recommend her.
Doesnt take attendance, but you would be lost if you didnt atttend. tests are super hard, you really need to study. She is nice though and lectures are pretty interesting. text is interesting also
shes a great professor! its suggested that you attend all her classes because she summarizes what you read from your text so its more understandable.
Awesome professor! Don't think I ever needed the book, she didn't refer to it much. I think it just depends on what class you have her for. I had her for bio 110. Just make sure you study, study, study your notes!! Over and over again..and you will be fine!
It was a pretty hard course it moved fast but she did a great job of answering all the questions we had.
Great teacher! Good sense of humor. If you are having trouble it is best to talk to her rather than not. She is understanding and helpful. She welcomes all questions no matter how rediculous you may think they are.
Totally pumped on this professor. The material can be overwhelming if you aren't regularly attending classes, but the prof really goes out of her way to make sure the concepts are clear and interesting. Supplemental articles are assigned, and often do a better job of explaining real world examples of the lecture concepts.
Good stories during lectures. Very helpful and approachable. Some writing. Tests very, very demanding and thorough. A lot of memorizing. Be prepared to study.
Overall the class was ok. Keep in mind that this was a summer course of only 6 weeks. This meant there was an exam just about every 5 classes. The paper was also difficult because of the short semester. Paper was graded fairly and holds a lot of weight. Will nickel and dime you on exams so know the details and explain it exactly how she says it.
She is awesome! She expects you to actually learn. Test are difficult, but if you study you can get an A. One of the best profs I have ever had
I took this course as a university requirement. I believe she expected too much from our class and treated us like we were choosing Biology as our major. The tests covered too many chapters and the questions were too in-depth for a non bio major. I had friends in other BIO106 classes and the professors were easier for non bio majors.
The soundness of her test questions give light to her experience as a teacher. A biologist lecturing over powerpoint slides, zero teaching strategies implemented. The class I took is only offered in the summer and s she is not considerate of the working student, must not have worked while she went throufh school. Holding back the five letter word.
She grades your tests based on your use of words. Even if it is obvious that you understand the answer and concept, you can lose full points by leaving out one word. Also, I feel that if she doesnt like you, she will grade you more harshly. Not recommended.
Course in general was difficult but she was incredibly passionate about Biology. If you pay attention and add side notes to the slide she posts you should do fine on exams. Almost all of the material she covers on the slides are in her exams and she adds things in class and makes it VERY obvious that you need to know it on the exam.
Very helpful & knowledgeable. She's also pretty funny. She gives good feedback for your writing, which you won't always get in the real world, so take advantage of it.
If you work hard, display that you understand the material in class, attend every class and do above average on the exams but do average on the final don't expect her to help you with your grade. Most professors will acknowledge your effort but not Dr. Corbett. Don't take her if you don't HAVE to. RUN! FAST!
Makes concepts clear, all questions on test are from her powerpoints. Short answers on her test are bogus, you're lucky if you get full credit on that portion because she is so picky. Makes you write research paper. Doesn't really display respect towards those who show up every class and give forth good effort. I put in "A-" work to get a "C+".
I took this class during the summer so it was faster and tougher. She hints about what questions she is going to put as short answers so go to class and take notes when she emphasizes on something. Write everything in the short answers because she is so picky and always takes points off. She is very helpful with answering questions. STUDY!!
Horrible professor, great person. Believes all students are BIO majors, powerpoints AND book are not related to the exams.
She treated it like a high school class. Too much busy workgroup work, not enough attention on making sure we understood the material. Wasted my money on a book we did not use. Didn't use class time wisely.
an intro to bio class shouldn't be this hard to pass. the class average was a low D before our final. grade depends mainly on tests. shes a nice person but not very helpful
She is extremely passionate about biology and it shows when she lectures. She made me genuinely interested in what we were learning. She is very nice, and she has a nice sense of humor. I never found her lectures boring.
Corbett will spend half her lecture taking about trips her parents have taken and anything else not related to botany. If asked what to study she will tell you "everything's fair game, know it all". She gives different material for lab and lecture and then flounders when asked why they're different and which is correct. 60%avg is high score.
Thought it would be a boring class since plants are not that interesting to me, however Dr Corbett is very passionate about the subject and she made the lectures "fun" and engaging. I know more about botany now than I ever had. You have to work hard to get a high grade but she makes this very clear. If you study you'll be rewarded.
Would not recommend. Makes the tests needlessly specific. Multiple choice is fine, but she grades short answerextended response hard. Imagine getting a perfect on the multiple choice and the getting a C from scoring low on the short answer. Also, this class has a paper that has to be somewhere around 10 pages. I would avoid the class if you can.
Shes a good teacher but you cant be lazy. Her grading scale is pretty good and she also curved your test. She corny with her jokes but i recommend her. She often does attendance
Dr. Corbett is very good at making the information being presented interesting by using little jokes and ways to remember material she teaches (especially cellular respiration and photosynthesis).
Tests are very hard in this class. Be prepared to STUDY HARD if you want decent grades on the tests. Two easy article review papers as well. There is a participation grade. I suggest using supplemental videos, etc (Crash Course A&P with Hank Green on YouTube!!!) to help you better understand because they lectures just don't do enough.
This class was just there. It was mostly boring. You need to study really hard to get a decent grade. The tests are difficult, she gives two easy essays.
Test- mult. Choice not that hard, short answer expect to write a DETAILED ANSWER to try to get full pts. Makes you write a paper on the intro 5-7 pgs!!! Then WRITE 6 pgs cont. from intro for Lab part. Her lectures are very broad.
She gives incorrect information in an attempt to make things easier to understand and becomes defensive when asked to clarify and explain why her notes are conflicting with the book.
I took bio200 with Corbett and she is much like Modney. She lectures well, is helpful, grades and emails in a timely manner, and her quirkiness will likely make you laugh every now and again. Teaches a hard subject but definitely not a bad professor.
Very irrational grader. Expects short answer questions on exams to be brief but takes off half the points if you don't explain the concept in extreme detail. Feedback on paper is a joke. It is not logical or constructive. Very back and forth on directions for assignments. Changes requirements the morning assignments are due. Avoid.
Took her for a plant biology class which should be relatively easy at least in concept because it's PLANTS. not with this teacher. Her tests are super hard and will go into details that you wouldn't have even thought would be relevant to be tested. You can basically study as much as you want for a test and still be asked Q's that you won't know.
Look at all the reviews and take them to heart. I read the previous semester's comments and was naïve in thinking I was an exception. She makes material relatively harder than it needs to be. Her exams are super difficult because her short answers are always not to her liking. She upholds being professional but has a excuse for untimely grading
Dr. Corbett is good lecturer, but I found it inconsistent with the exam. I studied weeks in advance for the second exam and I got about the same score as when I studied a few days beforehand. I would avoid this class at all cost. Gave a paper and changed the requirement multiple time. Became longer in length.
She is OK, it is clear which subjects she actually enjoys teaching.( for the LAC operon, she hardly explained it and then tested us on the exam. ) She has great analogies though, I'd suggest recording the lectures, attending SI, and making flash cards. (got an A on every test)
DO THESE THINGS FROM THE BEGINNING: go to ALL the SI Sessions, form study groups, get one-on-one tutoring, use Khan Academy/AK Lectures for materials covered in the class, stop by office hours, write your own practice questions, form flash cards and really put your all into this course!!! awesome teacher though, she really enjoys this subject!
There is only 2 papers for the entire semester which is pretty cool. However, taking good notes and preparing for tests is key. The exams have about 50 questions every time around. A good thing about her class is that she puts all of the powerpoint on blackboard. Attending her class isn't necessarily mandatory but if i could rewind, i would've went
Worst class and professor, if you don't go to class there is absolutely no way to pass it. Tests are hard even when you study a week in advance, one of those professors that are out to get you. Could care less about your well-being, and grade and she shows it.
Do NOT take this prof if bio is not a strong suit for you, the exams are insanely hard and its all lectures with 50+ slide lectures. Although the final exam is all the exact questions from the previous exams. If you're in need of a nap, this lecture is the place to take it.
Best of all 3 professors. People tend to do best on her exams. She's very clear in lectures and points out funny but effective ways to remember certain things. Attend all her lectures and watch videos on youtube. She's very kind and she's there to help during office hours!
The BEST of all 3 professors for BIO 200. Not only is she funny but devoted to the topic she is teaching about. She is very clear in her lectures and she is always available to help during her office hours!
Had her for BIO100 and BIO200. She's very passionate but goes off on tangents about stuff thats science related but not on our exams. She puts a lot of stuff on her powerpoint that isnt on the test. She has good mnemonics for remembering info and will gladly answer any questions you have. You have to go to class or you'll miss important stuff
She's much better than Modney, explains concepts better and doesn't shove info in your face as much. Still need to study & show up to class. Curves a little less than Modney since people do better on her exams. Make sure to print notes & write extra info she says! Show up, pay attention, study, go to SI, you'll be fine.
I studied for a solid week for each exam and walked in feeling amazing; didn't get above a C on any of the exams. She puts questions on the exam that she only mentioned in passing and nitpicks you to death. Her giant term paper you have to write barely affects your grade, and her TAs for the lab are lazy & don't help you at all. She curves a ton
Tests are difficult. The powerpoints are helpful but taking notes that are not on there is highly recommended.
She's very nice, funny, accessible, and wants you to succeed! All you have to do is put in the work, which is considerable. I studied for a week solid and got a C. Very detailed, but she answers questions clearly. Highly recommend!
My friends who like biology love Dr. Corbett. However, if biology is not your strong suit, do not expect this class to be easy. She goes through lectures very quickly and it can be hard to keep up so record the lectures. Most of your grade is from the tests (there's 4 of them) and you need to study.
Corbett is an amazing lecture giver! Unless you are an expert on biology, you will want to go to as many lectures as possible because it's pretty hard to teach yourself her material. The textbook helps, but you do not need it for class.
Her class was lecture style and note taking was a must. I recommend you start tutoring early. There were three test throughout the semester two homework assignments and a few small one point assignments. She is very passionate about biology. She didn't take attendance unless there was a in class activity but if you skip chances of passing are slim.
Shes an okay professor but, BIO 100 was not one of my favorite classes and you NEVER use the book.
She was funny. The material was tough but as long as you study youre good.
I think she was super funny and loved what she was teaching. I would love to have another lecture based class with her because she made the content interesting and engaging. Ps love her bio jokes.
She is really funny but kind of boring at times. I found myself falling asleep in her lectures a lot. Her PowerPoint notes are a start, but I recommend going to tutoring or SI to really learn and understand the material. Its a heavy class and not easy at all.
She's a decent professor but man is she a tough grader. She will take off a lot of points on the free response questions on the exams if you doing write every detail. That being said, BIO 300 Plant Bio is a terrible class. Do yourself a favor and take Animal Bio and/or Population Bio instead. Way less writing (if at all) and less strict profs.
Professor Corbett is a very knowledgeable and caring professor. She wants you to know the material and understand it. Overall, this class wasn't too bad. It would have been much easier in person though. Tests usually have a good curve.
Online textbook, 3 assignments most weeks with 3 exams, the final being one of them where 1/2 of it is previous work and 1/2 is covering the last section you went over. Very easy to pass if you are willing to do the work. Pay close attention to the power points and test yourself as there is no study guides.
course was well defined and outlined. Dr. C was very understanding and supportive.
Dr. Corbett had awesome lectures, but Panopto videos were not very helpful.
I had a really hard time with this class. Dr. Corbett is VERY lecture heavy and unfortunately, that is not the way I learn. I felt as though I retained none of the material and most of our class did not do well on her tests. If you're not good in a lecture environment, get a tutor.
Dr. Corbett is 10x better than Dr. Modney. She gives better resources and does actual, helpful activities in lecture. She does example problems and truly does care. Her Panopto videos are less painful than Modney's. I have done so much better in class with Corbett, do your work and you'll be okay.
She makes it near impossible for students to pass the course. There are students getting 70% on exams and that is considered above the average. All the exams are based on a lot of information and she doesn't curve grades either. She gives minimal guidance on what she expects from you. I recommend taking a different course !!!!!!
Your grade in this class consists off of 4 exams, homework, and attendance. The exams are very challenging and long. This class is 3 credits so it should be 9 hours a week studying but I have found myself spending over 30 hours a week. Dr. Corbett is also disrespectful towards students leaving people not wanting to go to her class.
Dr. Corbett should be fired from CSU!! Absolutely one of the worst professors I had at CSU. You will be spending minimum 40 hours a week just to do her papers and study for exams. She is VERY disrespectful to her students and puts grades in last second so you can't challenge grade! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!! Take animal bio instead with krebs.
Think very hard before taking any course instructed by this professor. There are 4 exams and a 14-page paper. Corbett is a VERY tough grader and an extreme nitpicker. She does not give A's and will disrespect you with a smile on her face. I spent all of my time studying and memorizing only to receive a mediocre grade in the course. AWFUL.
This is my overall review for the Biology 201 Lab that I took this spring. It wasn't bad per se, but for a one-credit class there was a lot of assignments and I strongly disliked that we took 10 minute quizzes before the lab started on Respondus Browser. It seemed that some of the TAs didn't know what they were doing but I don't really blame them.
this class is veryyyyy challenging. i study a lot and the highest i have gotten on her exams is an 80% but she does curve a lot. beware for a lot of material, like a lot. each test is 6 chapters or more. SO MUCH information. it's manageable but its hard.
I really enjoyed Dr. Corbett for the second half of BIO 200. She sometimes rambles but relates the lecture subject to real life situations which I found very helpful. This isn't a class you can through by showing up and doing the bare minimum. Dr. Corbett will absolutely help you out with any questions or issues you have.
I guess it is up to the student for the grade they get. For most it might feel like you are at the mercy of the wind. But for me if you just accept where you are and what you can do, there is no way you can't get somewhat of a decent grade. She does not hide information, but the short answer questions can be difficult.
Extremely nit-picky and strict on grading. Will mark off points on the exam whenever she feels. DON'T take this class unless you want to destroy your gpa. Does not care whether you pass or fail; most are failing in this class and she spends most of class joking around instead of actually teaching. The worst professor in CSU. Minimal to no curves.
Do not take. She was awful. Made a class that I already did not like or find particularly interesting and made it a nightmare. Get ready to study for days straight only to get a D on the exams. She marked me off for using AI to write my essay and when I told her I didn't she said there was nothing she could do and that she didn't believe me.
Emphasis on "lots of homework". The amount of time you have to spend on the homework's she gives through mastering biology is unrealistic. It takes forever and takes away from actually studying her material. Her exams are wordy and are often confusing at least for me. The SI leaders really help, I just don't recommend this professor
So rude and lecture heavy, DONT MISS AN EXAM OR SHE WILL GIVE A 0
dr. corbett was a terrible professor. went to office hours once and she told me i was standing too close to her, as she does not care about you. tests are extremely difficult, i would study for so many hours a week only to receive curved b's. si didn't really help either. lots of homework, and a huge cumulative final. avoid this course if possible!
This class wasnt as bad as people say. Only study the powerpoints and learning catalytics and you'll be set. She wont help but doesn't do anything to hurt your grade.
This class was actually terrible. The amount of time she wanted you to study each week was unrealistic with the amount of homework & assignments given. The weekly homework & assignments took at least two hours and did not help much. There is alot of information on each powerpoint. Only plus about her is she curves the exams. She's very old school.
I took Dr. Corbett for the summer semester as a six-week course. It was difficult but she did everything she could to help the class. Summer sessions are no joke but if you stay engaged, ask questions, and do the readings then you'll be okay. She's more than willing to help if you show interest in the material. Def would take again
Test were abnormally hard, consisting of at least 6 chapters per test. The final was cumulative, with 100 questions. Homework did not help at all, assigned a minimum of 2-3 assignments a week. Don't skip the lectures, she takes attendance through iClicker. The one thing that I really did appreciate was how high her curves were.
