She really knows what she is talking about. Smart and very nice lady. She has an interest in the subject which makes going to class fun.
I took Prof.Haupt for Glbst 101 and 102. She does expect you to do all the readings and punctuality is very important.Very nice and approachable after class(more so in Glbst. 102 since it's much smaller)Her class and expectations really helped prepare me for papers at the UC level. Really interesting class and she knows her stuff!
she is a great teacher, kind of dorky but very pretty. she has a sense of humor and rarely shows it. Definitely recommend her, it was a big class but she was very friendly.
Seemed super hard and strict the first week or two, but once everything got going, I realized how nice and smart she is. She really knows the subject! Nerdy and funny, she loves students who take the time to talk to her outside of class.
hard to get an A but good interesting classes
Love how caring professor Haup is
Professor Haupt is a great professor. She seems really passionate and interested in what she's teaching and makes it really easy to be interested in the course material as well. She's very approachable and helpful and has far been on of my favorite professors.
This woman is honestly the most boring teacher in the world. I had to drink so much coffee just to stay awake during her class. Though she is a very easy teacher, who offers a lot of extra credit, so its basically impossible to fail to her class. Bad thing is that she takes attendance so you actually HAVE to stay there for the terrible lectures.
Lectures every time you meet, which gets really boring. She is really nice and is open to help. DO THE READINGS! she doesnt check if you do but they matter when it comes to the midterms and writing assignments. good guest speakers too.
Prof. Haupt is very nice and smart. She has a dry sense of humor, and connects the material to the news, which has been fun. Class covers some history and theories of international relations. Pushes you think analytically, just what you would expect at a 4-year university. For the paper, go visit her during her office hours, she is very helpful.
Take her class! She is energetic and really knows what she is talking about. Really got me interested in majoring in global studies.
Great teacher! Very nice and caring. Really loves what she is teaching. Very much enjoyed her 101 and 102 class!
Very interesting class and very informative prof. She really knows her stuff and if you don't get te material she is always at her office hours to help! I loved all the classes I took with her global 101/102 and International relations... I highly recommend!! do the readings cause they will be in the midterm and final for sure!
Very helpful. Great teacher. Very passionate. Recommend her class
She is the worst teacher I have had so far at SBCC. She is boring, and her voice has only one tone. Her lectures are dry and hard to understand. I really wish I dropped her class when I could. I learned absolutely nothing. It was a painful waste of time. Though I must say her tests are VERY easy, so that's a plus I guess.
I am not a Political Science major, but the class was interesting. Professor Haupt is engaging and helpful. Take the class if you have a chance!
YES! Great topics, useful information, clear presentation. Instructor who really gives a damn about the students and the subject. Cool videos. Will give surprise quizzes, so readings are a must.
Nice professor. Class is incredibly boring, as if she's introducing us to the fact that atrocities exist outside the U.S. Learned nothing, quizzes and tests fairly easy. Incredibly passive. She is somewhat cute, so there is that I guess.
Prof Haubt's class is pretty hard. Readings for every class are required, along with going to class every time. There are surprise quizzes. The exams are essays mainly. She is a very hard grader. The material is pretty interesting. I enjoyed the class, but isn't an easy A.
I took Prof. Haupt for GLST 101/102. She is very passionate and knowledgable about the course material. She is a hard grader on the essays and there is a lot of online readings. If you are interested in global studies take this class!! 102 is way more interesting than 101
Great class, great teacher. Totally inspired me and it was really fun. Take any exc opportunity she offers. The only thing I would say is that you really need to read Mearsheimer and Waltz arguments in depth before you "get" the theories. Not to pass the class, but I recommend it if youre really interested in the major. Cant say enough good things.
Professor Houpt is simply one of the most talented professors I have ever had. She tried her best clarifying her courses as much as the student needs. Her style of teaching is quite unique. Her midterms are neither hard not easy.it's about how prepared you are. She focuses pretty much about the policy brief and papers.
Her classes are extremely ideological and misleading. Much of the material is completely false, and she is an apologist for state crimes. Her classes are a form of indoctrination.
Really nice and open to everyones opinions and beliefs. You need to work for your grade, it's not a walk in the park but if you are interested in the subject you shouldn't have any problems! I enjoyed the class and would recommend it to anyone.
Andrea Haupt is probably the worst teacher SBCC has. She talks off slides and goes way too fast. Her tests are ridiculously hard, and since they are multiple choice you don't even get partial credit. If you have the ability to take her class with another teacher, do that, or just don't take any class with her.
The worst teacher in SBCC. She goes through slides to fast and you can't learn anything. I always try to take notes in class but with her it was impossible to keep up.
Take this class! It is about globalization and you'll learn a lot, sort of like traveling to a different country every class meeting. You have to read, but it’s an easy A because the class notes and the exam questions are posted online. Haupt is funny and friendly. Will take 102 next semester.
I really enjoyed Prof. Haupt's class. You can tell she is passionate about her material, & she is patient in explaining any questions you might have. The class is rather dry, she uses powerpoints for lecture. Grades on participation, DO THE READINGS they are a majority of her exams. Could probably pass the class w/out textbook, but would still buy
She knows alot! Really good teacher but sometimes to picky with details and talk fast. Loved the class, really interesting! DO the readings
Gloooobalization! Cool topics – I loved the class! Prof. Haupt is very knowledge, and she does her best to keep us entertained. The midterms and final are straightforward. Not a problem to get a good grade if you study a little.
Prof. Haupt is amazing and she is a wonderful teacher. She genuinely cares about her students and the material she is teaching. She has a lot of rules but she is kind and fair. She works with her students and wants people to succeed. I miss her very much as a professor
Interesting and easy class to take! Her notes and lectures are straightforward and a lot of the material is common sense. VERY important you do all the readings though! Lots of questions on it on the exam and she likes examples in the essays. She's a sweet lady and this is a great class if you want to learn more about the world & how its connected.
Very nice teacher and interesting class. She is passionate about her class and she is not a hard grader. But she gives a lot of assigments an there is a lot of reading.
Best online course I have taken!
She is such a nice person and a good teacher. Tries to make all her lectures appealing to her students and tries to involve them as much as possible even though many do not participate because it is a large lecture. She is very hard on essays and exams but is helpful. If you dont miss a lecture and read, you will do just fine
This woman know what she is talking about and she is extremely clear and have very interesting lecturers. Her essays are hard, midterm and final was OK. She is very willing to offer her help, and as long as you do your work in the class and keep up there will be no problems getting a good grade.
Worst teacher I've ever had (keep in mind I had a 3.5 at CC) Lectures are boring, ppt slides are confusing and overloaded with text, awkwardly ask questions to the class and rarely gets responses. Tests were a 1-2 short answer questions, full essay, then 40ish multiple choice. NOT ENOUGH TIME. Really strict grader on the essays.
Super nice professor, interesting lectures and guest lecturers. There are study questions so you already have the exam questions ahead of time. You can also bring notes to the exam. Not a difficult class at all, and very useful.
I hate having her as a professor. She is condescending, unclear in what she expects, and is a ridiculous grader. Rather than trying to build up students she is just mean. Avoid
There's 2 papers that are 5-7 pages long and she expects you to do the assigned reading. PRINT OUT THE LECTURE OUTLINES. Try to do some of the online assigned reading, twice we had a quiz on it. Everything she does is straight forward and she says exactly what she wants. She bumped my grade up from a B+ to an A- because she could tell I was trying
Can't even stress how great of a teacher she was. Incredibly responsive, respectful, and probably one of the smartest people I've ever met. She floods her classes with culturally relevant information and makes it so enjoyable that it doesn't even feel like learning. Follow her rules and you'll be fine, she's not scared to call you out if you act up
LOVE HER!! She is very inspiring and knowledgable. She cares about her students a lot and wants the best for them, took her GLBS 101 & 102 and loved it!! don't be afraid to ask questions or visit her office hours, she is very friendly! smartest woman I know. Be sure to read all online articles, she allows notes on the midterms.
She is the best teacher ever, she has amazing lectures, and the homework actually makes you learn a lot! she gives 4 or 5 worksheets that you have to fill out for every topic! when I took her class we had one essay. The tests are multiple choice but also essays about the subject. Best class ever! I totally recommend her (its not a easy A!)
She covers a ton of material and gives you really long study guides to the test, but there's only 2, with 12 quizzes and she drops the worst 2. You read a lot of out of date articles but learn a ton. She's super sweet and a fair grader. I went to every class, did the homework, filled up (She lets you use 2 sides on tests) the paper
She is definitely knowledgeable & passionate about her subjects but you have to be proactive to get help. She uses Turnitin for all assignments. She grades very hard, more like an English prof (composition over content) & expects even public knowledge/own opinions to be cited. Had a harder time in her CC class than I did at a university.
Tough grader. Not an easy A. And she has a little tick, the tendency to say "aight" after a thought. I always wondered if it was German for something.. That being said, her lectures were truly thought provoking. Very well educated and wants to see the class participate even if it is a lecture. If you have an interest in world issues, take her.
She parrots the textbook and buzzwords. Her classes are from the perspective of what politicians proclaim in public as opposed to what they actually do. We learn about Wilson's proclaimed love on self-determination but not how his troops murdered, destroyed, reinstituted virtual slavery and demolished the constitutional system in Haiti (Chomsky).
Great professor. Made me change my major to political economy. Very helpful. Very interesting lectures.
Professor Haupt was by far one of my favorite professors at SBCC.
Not an easy class. It was out of 1000 points, however open notes on quizzes and exams. She is very passionate about Global issues and very knowledgable. Utilize her office hours, sometimes she tries to pack too much information into one lecture. She assigns videos and articles that you must view to succeed, however it is all relevant/interesting.
Good professor. Helpful and responsive to questions. Do not fall behind in the reading if you are taking the class online; there is a lot of it. She is a tough grader, but after the first few short essays, they become remarkably easy. If you make a legitimate effort, she will reward you.
A wonderful professor who is very knowledgeable of their field. I'm not personally too keen on IR, but she made the class interesting even for someone like me. A long as you pay attention in class, grasp the core concepts and do the work you will be fine. If you need helps with anything she is very accommodating.
Dr. Haupt is VERY knowledgeable and passionate about international politics. Her class is definitely challenging (especially if your major has nothing to do with politics) but it is very doable. The typical week (for summer online) consists of 2-3 essays, 2 quizzes (2 attempts each), and a discussion post. This class isn't as bad as it sounds.
I was very excited in the subject of global studies before taking this course. Now not so much. She doesnt understand the student body almost at all. Will ask the same question alot. She relies on the very small book and pointless articles way too much. Best part of the class was when we had a guest lecture from an amazing GLST teacher from UCSB.
She's a really great person but she is a tough teacher! It's okay to miss a few classes if you have friends in the class that will fill you in on the lecture. As long as you keep up with the reading and take LOTS OF NOTES you'll be fine. Although its tough, you learn a lot of interesting info on how connected the world is.
Haupt your first semester may seem hard, but what she is doing is getting you ready for the university. She cares about her subject and is amazingly understanding. Do the readings, read the guidelines, go to the tutor. You do what you are suppose to do and you will get an A. This goes for 101,102,121.
Haupt's intro class requires a moderate amount of effort but it isn't impossible. She makes it quite clear what the expectations and standards are in the syllabus. Also, she's super knowledgable about global studies. I really enjoyed the class but it's also my intended major, I can see how the class might not be for those who don't intend to major.
Haupt's class is very manageable, she offers a ton of extra credit for the class. Each week there are chapter outlines for credit and the last one of the semester is extra credit. There is a 10-page paper but, if you actually attend class it won't be as overwhelming as you may think. I would definitely take this class again, if you try you'll get A!
Genuinely one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. Dr. Haupt is an amazing lecturer, and a really understanding professor. Highly recommend.
Really interesting course. Dr. Haupt is very well versed and passionate during her lectures. Essay is kind of difficult, but definitely manageable if you begin early and seek help. She allows a cheat sheet for both her midterm and final, which is SO helpful. An A is achievable, but you have to be willing to work for it.
Class requires good time management. Many papers. Teacher very devoted. Classmembers very engaged. Some literature outdated but school is in transition from Moodle to Canvas. More extra credit than I have ever seen. Citation heavy papers. Typical political correctness. Tolerant of opposing veiws. I don't think I earned an A- but every point counts.
Don't take her online class cause not only she makes you do so much work but it is wayy too time consuming. There is so much and not enough time and it is very stressful. She makes us do so much assignments and doesn't consider that we need time to idk to ACTUALLY STUDY and give us a little bit of a break.
Best professor ever! Everybody should take one of her classes.
Avoid POLS121 online if you're looking for even a *slightly* easier route. TWO essays two every few weeks. She is a major stickler for citations and formatting. Suspiciously, content seems not as important, when you compare the 10-page citation document against the two-sentence essay prompt. And the "quizzes" are really 25 question tests! Avoid.
If you are looking for a University level class, this is it. Very knowledgeable about subject matter, gives very interesting lectures. She can go on tangents sometimes, and she does lean to the left, but the class is well worth taking. Do the readings, take notes, and you should do fine. If you are slipping, do the ec and see the tutor.
She's great. Really cares about what she teaches. Lectures are updated to current material in politics and she keeps it interesting. Would take her again. 1 midterm, 1 final 1 term paper and a couple of online quizzes. Be aware that she'll (I guarantee you) change the dates of assignments and exams.
Had all prof. Haupt classes, and loved them. She is very inspirational and knowledgable, strict but very fair. If you just do what is required, it is quite easy to get a good grade. She truly goes out of her way to help you learn, and hands out study guides/lecture outlines for each topic where you can take notes during lecture 10/10 would do agai
I really like professor Haupt. She's very clear about the course and the material and what she expects. The lecture outlines really help!
Best professor ever! Shes very professional and intelligent. Also, shes an inspiration of a woman. Please take one of her classes, shes awesome! You wont regreat, I promise!
I hated her online class so much. I'm giving her a 3 because I hear she's better in person, but please don't take her online class. It was very stressful. She is a tough grader on the essays.
She is such a tough grader to the foreigner students even if they did a lot to prepare the essay questions. The worksheet is fine as long as you read all the reading she posts on the website; however, the exam is another story that she won't let you have the scores you want. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS if you are looking for a chance to get an A......
A tough grader, but a very great teacher. I was able to learn a lot from her class, and even though it was a challenging course it was well worth it! Would take again!
I was very excited to be learning political science yet, after the first week I realized how much of a mistake I had made. There is a lot of reading and papers, I imagine the class would go much more smoothly if it were taken in person. DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE!
I've learned a lot - her material and expectations are clear, and she wanted us to succeed. Online class is definitely a challenge, and if you're not willing to put the time and effort into learning the subject - don't waste the time. But if you take her - you will learn a lot about the world we live in. Would take again. Thank you, Doctor Haupt!
I did not know what to expect, but I am really enjoying this online class. Really interesting topics. Homework is manageable, and there is just one paper and two exams. Assigns many videos. Book is up to date and some of it is online. She is super helpful and communicative, leaves voicemails! Definitely recommend
all around great online class. best i've taken. moderate amount of work.
talks too much about things that do not make any sense. she does not really explain what she is talking about. she knows what she is talking about but when she explains it, it makes zero sense.
Dr. Haupt is a nice person but a tough professor, I took her for Global studies, do not take this class unless you want to do a ton of readings. LOVES to assign and TEST on each individual reading.
This professor does not explain anything, the tests are based literally around articles she finds off the internet. This course has interesting topics but, the professor lectures in a way that makes absolutely zero sense and talks about topics that are not even relevant to the final/midterm's content.
Perhaps the best prof. I've had in my education. Not only is she knowledgable but passionate of what she teaches! Grading is straight forward and she tells you EXACTLY what she wants on term paper/tests. Do prepare to work, but she wants you to succeed and is available for questions. Not a polysci major, but I would gladly take another class!
Take good notes on lecture. A very inspiring teacher! Dr. Haupt ties in current events to principles and theories that have lasted for hundreds of years. All testing is pretty much straight out of her textbook. The ones complaining about this class don't understand that she's speaking to us like we're four-year students and some appreciate that!
I really liked the learning material. However, you have to be prepared to read a lot& sometimes difficult articles. If you don't read you won't pass. The lectures sometimes were pretty boring& the slides not clearly explained. I liked the class though. It's a challenging class but rewarding& if you do what you're expected to do, it's an easy A.
Most annoying and toughest professor ever. Never take her.
Would not recommend or take this teacher. Rude. Isn't there for you to succeed as a student.
Worst teacher, toughest and disrespectful. Never take her class. Never !!!
As a Political Science major, I definitely had to put effort into this course. However, it was one of the most interesting classes I've taken in my few years at SBCC. Professor Haupt is very knowledgeable and she is prompt to answer messages or emails. Make sure you read everything in the textbook and ALL required readings. It was a hard but great!
She is a really great professor and I really enjoyed the class. She makes the lectures enjoyable by talking a lot about current events as well. I am a political science major so I loved learning about everything but even if your taking this class just because you need to you'll definitely find it interesting and you'll find her very helpful
I am a high school dual enrollment student, and I took a 6 week summer course with Haupt. Although the power points can be confusing, and this class is very textbook heavy, it is enjoyable and you learn about many current events too! (she ties it into real life.) Exams are hard but there is extra credit. I would recommend!
Amazing professor, smart and kind. Clear expectations and study guides. You have to study pretty hard and she uses proctorio but you will actually learn.
Loved this class because her lectures were very detailed and she makes good study guides. Tests can be difficult but if you go through the study guides, you will be fine. Be prepared to read a LOT. Not only is there a small textbook to read, but she attaches extra articles and stuff. DON'T SKIP READINGS! Take her though! She's really nice too
Professor Haupt is so nice and creates great rapport with her students. For our online class she sent voice messages with her feedback which was very helpful. The workload was doable. Just do what you are supposed to for college, read the assigned chapter and look at her slides, you will pass.
worst online class ever, do not recommend her class. Makes you read 30-40 page chapter on top of discussions and you have t watch videos and read articles on top of the 30-40 page chapter. With a 20 question quiz. Never again am I taking her class.
Such an interesting class, and the readings Prof. Haupt chose to share were equally as interesting. Haupt is one of my absolute favorite professors at SBCC. The online format was very clear and I felt that I still was able to get what I needed from the class. I recommend going to office hours- conversations about the material are so interesting!
Professor Haupt is a good professor all around. Her material is organized and she cares a lot about what she is teaching to her students and their success. She uses relevant issues that students can relate to. But all in all the class is hard. But you will pass if you put in the work and study. Plenty of quizzes and exams. Exams proctored. 2 finals
The worst part her class were the proctored exams using Proctorio. We had to use it in every exams and it caused me so much unneeded anxiety, especially during our last essay-exam where we were supposed to use NO NOTES. Wouldn't recommend her class online if you hate that kind of thing.
This class was extremely difficult as all of the class work was based on reading lectures made by the professor, reading material from the book, and listening to podcasts for each topic given. Exams were incredibly stressful as we were expected to use NO NOTES yet use resources in our essay exam. Be prepared to memorize everything or you'll fail.
She assigns a final exam paper that is extremely hard- 900 word essay with 2 other shorter essays, no notes/outlines and 2 hours to complete it. Very strict about proctorio! The quizzes are open note, but the exams are not and you have 4 exams. Material is substantially skewed to only address one side of the issue, lots of podcasts/ youtube.
Dr. Haupt is a very good professor and provides a clear course structure in which it is easy to succeed. You will have to read her textbook and follow her module readings to do well in the class. She is very knowledgeable and nice when it comes to questions or other class concerns. Overall, an enjoyable class experience!
I pretty much taught myself this course. The 6 modules are reasonable & theres a quiz for each one. I hated the quizzes cuz the questions were so specific. I would get some wrong, find the right answer and take a second attempt at the quiz all for it to be completely different questions with only a few repeat questions. Lectures have a lot of typos
Great! Really interesting class. Very up to date on global issues. The class is well organized, it's not difficult to get an A if you just complete the assignments (most are open notes). She is really helpful, too, and enjoys talking with students during office hours. Highly recommend!
Extremely clear expectations and a helpful instructor. Complete the assignments and you'll do well. I took this class for GE, and enjoyed learning about international politics much more than I expected. Only that I am more afraid of a nuclear war now, haha! Seriously, if you have chance, take this class, you wont regret it!
I've taken numerous classes with Andrea, and I couldn't recommend her more highly. I'm majoring in global studies, and she makes it very interesting and sets a clear and organized list of requirements and due dates; she also throws in occasional breaks before a mid-term or final so you can revise, which I think is very helpful.
This class got me to understand what is happening globally. Glob 101 covers many parts of globalization, and learning about the global environment is so important. Some challenging readings, but some really easy ones, too. Haupt responds quickly and was very accommodating when I had a family emergency.
A medley of worldwide topics. Interesting enough that it hardly feels like studying. THE best class I've taken at SBCC!
Good teacher, cares about the class and the students. Midterm/tests not as hard as you think, but you have to use proctorio and that kinda sucks. Would reccomend, took over the summer and was a lot of reading but worth it. Is a bit leaning heavily on democratic side, so if you're republican may not like it. 3 big tests, 12 quizzes, 1 grade dropped.
Her Online courses are a mess. You need to write some short essays for each test and she just gives you a bunch of articles and videos. It's boring. Don't take her class if you want your life eaiser.
Recommend! Covers global themes that will change your perspective. Prof Haupt is enthusiastic! Pros: interesting lectures and up to date. Course structure is clear. Covers environment. Moderate level of difficulty Cons: didnt care that much about economic issues, though they probably need to be covered in a class about globalization
Don't take this class if you can. So many random podcasts/youtube videos. Unclear with everything. Worst online class I've ever taken.
Well structured course, really up to date material, including podcasts. To my surprise I feel I can participate in conversations about politics now. Though shes strict about Proctorio, she is a really friendly prof who clearly cares about the class and her students.
Tough grader and I did not enjoy her or her class. She has very specific requirements and if you don't follow them exactly, she will mark you down. Her "lectures" are just really long slideshows that you have to read through. She doesn't even talk or narrate them. Exams are hard and are proctored
POL SCI 101 was a really interesting class! The textbook was just ok, but her lectures were really interesting and the news reports were, too. Workload was reasonable, several low assignments were dropped. Honestly, if you just do the work, an A is not difficult. I slacked off for a while but still got an A-
Haupt's classes are well structured and relevant. I took all classes she teaches. Global 102 was my favorite.
Global Studies 102 was my favorite class and the Global Studies major is cool. I enjoyed the diversity of topics, the clear organization of the class and the fact that you don't have to complete assignments every single week. (There are five bigger topics). Professor Haupt was friendly and helping me out when I got sick.
I took her online class and honestly it was a lot of reading. Every week she assigns a chapter from the textbook to read along with required articles and videos to watch. We had a discussion and a quiz due every week but I had to really read the textbook and study the articles and videos to get 100% I really liked her though!! She is very nice:)
Knowledgeable instructor who is clearly excited about the material. I found the international relations theories that are emphasized in the course to be very valuable. They challenge what you think you know about international politics. Midterm, final, paper and some easy smaller assignments. Recommend this class 10/10!
Think you could go wrong taking this class? Think again! It's a no-nonsense, interesting college-level class and you'll learn. Complete the assignments and you can't go wrong
I liked this class a lot.
Professor Haupt is a great teacher. She always makes sure the reading and videos are interesting and the content we learned was so engaging. She does use proctorio for every online assignment that is an exam or midterm but gives lots of prerequisite study help. Whoever says her class is hard is just lazy!
Her lectures were boring and to pass the class you had to rely on the textbook and podcasts she assigns. She handed out lecture notes that had 4-6 blanks to fill in through out the lectures which doesn't help retain the info at all. We had weekly quizzes, two midterms, a final, and a three-page term paper. She was also a bit rude at times.
I have taken a few classes with Prof. Haupt and really like her teaching style and course organizations. Global 101 is a great course if you at all care about the planet. The course part on the environment was my favorite. Not too difficult, either, though you can't skip the readings.
While she is an amazing professor, she does give out so many reading assignments and videos throughout the semester. She is great for poly sci majors but if you are looking for a filler class to meet IGETC requirements (like I was) I say chose somewhere else. Overall she is very kind and caring for her students, just an intense amount of reading.
She is a nice person work load was manageable. She is very strict with Proctorio which was a challenge because it can glitch & exit people out of tests. In the final week, we had 3 big separate final exams just for this class alone which was hard to do because I had other finals for different classes the same week. Should have been handled better.
At first she was great, gives really intresting podcasts to listen to, but exams are HARD. We had to memorize a podcast at random for one of the exams. She gives you a few to choose from but she doesn't tell you which ones until you start the essay exam. Exams are remotely proctored, so if you don't cheat you'll pass. Very passionate and kind lady
Definitely a lot of material to get through! She gives a good overview on globalization that covers many topics, but it can get overwhelming if you're just looking for a gen-ed. Pretty forgiving when it comes to grading, just be ready to spend a lot of time on all the reading/viewing material assigned each week, it can be a lot.
So kind and caring. Be sure to set aside time to read all the articles and documentaries. Overall, a very enjoyable course. She gives amazing feedback on all of your work and has times outside of class where you can reach out and ask her questions.
Intimidating class at first, but I learned a lot. Flexible w/ grades. Although I got B's on my Exams, she adjusts them & my average became high B's to low A's. My overall grade was high throughout class. Around 98%. Still waiting for my finalized grade w/ the written essay. Gives feedback & is responsive. Exams are proctored. Interesting lectures.
Lectures are long and heavy, gives podcasts to listen to that are about 40min long, and expect you to memorize everything for her tests. Her class seems based on memorization rather than understanding the materials. She gave a third midterm, an essay, and a final exam all within the same weekend giving you no time to focus on other classes.
I took the online summer class so it did move rather fast, but it was very doable. Professor Haupt uses a good variety of videos, lectures, readings, and podcasts when covering the material so there is some diversity not just chapter after chapter. Not a lot of assignments but its very much a study on your own kind of class.
Get ready to not understand when your homework is due and buy a textbook written by the professor herself. One of the toughest graders I've ever encountered.
Dr. Haupt is a great professor. She assigns a lot of work, but it's manageable. Everything on her study guide is what will be on the exam, so as long as you study, you'll do good. She gives clear instructions and her canvas is really easy to follow. I would recommend taking her class!
She is a great professor, but she has assigned a proctored and closed note midterm exam, final exam, and essay. I have learned a lot in the class but considering that it is finals week and I am taking other classes, the workload is a lot. I think that having 2 major exams and 1 essay is excessive and unnecessary.
All of the Midterms are proctored and there is 4 of them in total. The quizzes are super under stable and the questions are straight from the material which is nice. Professor Haupt just grades kind of harshly but is there to negotiate if you need it.
Prof Haupt was a great professor, her lectures were very entertaining as well. There are 3 midterms and a final writing assignment. She gives no homework and even gives you printed out lecture outlines. The extra credit and exams are easy as long as you have attended lectures and taken the correct notes.
Professor Haupt was wonderful and has made learning about political science extremely interesting. She's extremely knowledgeable on the topics she speaks about and is very clear about what she expects from you as a student. You will do well if you read and understand the textbook and listen to her lectures (they're delightfully brief).
I was really surprised how much I liked the class! The class is not very difficult and really interesting. My major is in the sciences, but this was a fantastic class for general ed. It's well organized, too.
I learned a lot from Professor Haupt's International Politics class despite it being an online course. Make sure you follow her instructions clearly as she is strict but fair. She is very organized and you shouldn't have trouble following her lecture or modules.
I took her online course, which definitely hurt the overall experience. From what I've heard from other students that took her in-person course, it was better. She grades tough, and takes stuff out of her textbook that she wrote pretty constantly. BEWARE: online course requires use of proctorio, which is a massive invasion of privacy.
She was a very good teacher overall but had some nuances made it much more difficult. Zero technology allowed in class and everything must be handwritten and it takes hours. Her tests are difficult but the study guide was extra credit. She also was not helpful in the sense of even having a stapler. 6/10
She has a total of 4 Proctorio exams, their isn't a text book. Attendance is mandatory she takes it every day. The one thing i didnt like is she makes you cite everything from the lecture and videos from the minute mark, then all of her documents of the readings and lectures are protected google docs which making using them harder.
such an organized professor, have taken her for 2 online pols sci classes now and her lectures and materials are sooooo easy to follow and incredibly organized. easy to do well if you do the readings and take light notes, plan for the online essays in advance and you will be okay! proctored tests with lock down but not the hardest exams ever
Professor Haupt runs a tight ship, but if you keep up with the readings and notes, you'll do well. The exams are challenging but fair. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for my study prep.
I loved this class! You definitely need to be on top of your attendance and work but if you are this class will be easy. Dr. Haupt is really kind and helpful. It can get content heavy but it is very manageable and easy to do well in this class.
I did not like her teaching style.
This class has been one of the hardest I've ever taken. Maybe it's because my major isn't related and the teaching style I'm not used to. I had a 4.0 GPA until this class came along. Attendance is mandatory since the professor hands out the topic sheets that you'll need for the exams.
Took her Pols 121 last semester and I really liked her she was a fair grader and the workload was very manageable, the only issue is we would sometimes fall of track in lectures but other than that, a good, very understanding and concise professor.
I took Mrs. Haupt's class in the summer, and it was definitely a good amount of reading. The class structure was perfect, the discussions were interesting and her instruction was well above most other professors!
This American Politics class is way better than I thought it'd be. For an online class, it's actually pretty engaging. It's not just memorizing facts. We're actually talking about real issues and how things play out today. Makes me think more about what's going on in the news. Reading amount is moderate and the exams are not that hard.
POV: you signed up for an online poli sci class thinking it'd be boring but now you're deep in a discussion thread about the power of the president at 10 pm. lowkey obsessed. the content actually hits.
Horrible teacher - That's all I have to say.
I've had Prof. Haupt for 3 classes now: POLS 101, POLS 121, and GLST 101. My grade kept increasing as I took more classes. Yes, she's a harsh grader— but quiz answers can be found in lectures/videos assigned. The questions on the final are the same as those given on quizzes lol. Would take more of her classes even though she makes me a bit anxious!
Professor Haupt means well but I did not like her teaching style. Lectures are long and heavy podcasts are 40 min long. Class is based on memorization rather than learning. The final week we had an essay exam midterm final exam Exams are remotely proctored. Her lectures are really long slide shows and she just reads off of them. Take someone else
Though Mrs. Haupt is understanding, this class was challenging, especially if you missed a lecture. The material is good, but entails tons of reading, studying, & LOTS of note taking. For me, it seemed like tests were more based on memory rather than understanding. Lastly, it is a lot of hrs for summer, & is can be hard to keep up with.
Vibes were good. There's some material, but it's really not a hard A. Prof's cool and keeps it real with the news. Finally get the whole Trump thing now lol.
One of the most useful classes I've taken. I feel way more confident talking politics now. Class is fast-paced, but super organized. Lots of topics and (mostly) interesting videos. Lectures are concise. Textbook is just ok. Haupt seemed strict at first, but is actually very accommodating. Lowest grades are dropped. Plenty extra credit. Can't miss.
The class felt very skewed Left, focusing too much on identity politics and critiques of America without balance for conservative views. Overwhelming for a 101-level course. Not the fair intro I expected. I'd recommend students look for another teacher.
Really interesting class, especially the lectures. It's honestly a great class to grasp the basics about today's politics and political divide. Also, I did not find this class to be biased, but rather neutral. Exams are open notes. Study a little, pay attention to citations in your Discussion posts and then it's an easy A.
A valuable class just EXTREMELY fast passed, you will need to study A LOT outside of class to really fully understand the material because of how fast the class goes. Exams are composed of multiple choice and short essays questions which in my opinion are more about based on memorization. Overall a nice teacher though.
Overall I really enjoyed this class. Professor Haupt is very understanding and gives very clear grading criteria. The most challenging part of this class was the essays which were just time consuming. To do good on them, just use A LOT of CITATIONS and you'll be good. She also offers a lot of extra credit and is very gracious when grading.
Dr. Haupt is an amazing professor. She provides you all the materials you need to succeed in her class and is always willing to assist students. She teaches with so much passion, you see her eyes light up when she talks about a topic she really likes. She is very accommodating to students. She seems serious but she's funny and kind.
Great person, unfair grader
Very difficult to work with. In every essay you are required to cite everything that isn't common knowledge which is up to her judgement. Therefore you have to cite every single sentence in order to get full credit. Makes you buy her textbook online, the book is okay but course can definitely go with out it. Her lectures are boring.
