BEWARE. This is not a "blow-off" class. You WILL need to study for her exams. However, it's still an easy 'a' if you do. She is very nice and is passionate about what she is teaching. In some classes, you will go over powerpoints. In others you will listen to music. Note: She is slow at grading exams, so expect to wait at least three weeks after.
MUSC 201 with Imhoff is a ridiculously easy class. While it is good to go to class, if you have to miss now and then you'll be fine. She posts reviews for her exams and there won't be anything not on the review on the exam. Prof. Imhoff is very caring as well.
If you love music and every detail there is to know about it, youll love it. If youre looking for an easy A this isnt so much. You DO have to study and Remember a lot of critical musical details. This class was very boring to me.
Imhoff wasn't my favorite. It's a very easy class, but she takes FOREVER to get grades back to you. We took our first test two weeks in and didn't get those grades back until after the third test of the course. She grades way too hard on the concert reports, but the tests are easy. I barely attended the lectures.
Not a blow off class, but information isn't difficult to understand. I always went to class, but you don't really have to because she reads straight of the powerpoints she uploads. You really have to study, don't try to wing it because you will fail. Overall she is very passionate and a good prof, but don't expect things to be graded on time.
I stopped going to class a few weeks in. everything she lectures on is uploaded a few days before exams. I just pulled an all nighter the nights before exams and did fine. she made the final open note and online. she doesn't grade things in a timely manner but if you're willing to study a little bit you'll be fine!
She takes practically forever to upload grades so you really don't know where you stand in the class until almost the end of the semester. She seems passionate about what she's teaching but unless you like learning about old dead guys from the 1800's you won't find this interesting at all. Not an easy A.
This was not an easy class for me. I had to take a fine art, and with no music background I struggled. You have to listen to classical pieces on tests and answer questions about them which was hard. I do not think she realized music was not second nature to all of us. She took forever to put grades in so I never knew where I stood.
Takes FOREVER to get grades back, the class is extremely boring. Do not take unless you have to. Its not a blow off class but if you study its extremely easy. Two concert reports are required outside of class and a group project which was dumb. Shes very passionate about what she teaches.
3 tests and final, 1 group project. There are 2 mandatory essays over a concert you will attend, lots of available concerts with flexible dates. Boring lectures, normally posts ppt online. Never listened in class, studied the night before, A. Takes a long time to put grades in.
Professor Imhoff knows what she teaches and obviously loves it. But if you're looking for an easy credit, this isn't it. You must study and know what is taught. Non-mandatory attendance but it helped to go to class. Everything you need will be posted online. We got our first test grades back the day before the second test which was inconvenient.
She's a really good prof, but with other classes this class just doesn't take priority. If you do atleast some basic studying, you should be fine. All exams/tests are online oncluding the final. She can be a little inflexible but she's p sweet otherwise
She was super passionate about the material. She's very sweet. The class did require some studying, but not to a great extent by any means. It's pretty easy, but don't treat that as an invitation to blow it off. Study the material diligently, and you'll get an easy A. Straightforward exams. Takes a while to put grades in, but overall great prof.
Professor Imhoff was a very passionate lecturer. Her class was so easy! I showed up to every class and learned a ton from her, however, you do not have to go to class in order to get an A. She was an easy grader and made it almost impossible for you to get anything besides an A in her class. You would literally have to try to not get an A.
Imhoff was a good prof. I took her class for music 201 and I thought that she did a great job. Go to class and take notes. Some test are online and require you to listen to a song and interpret it (which is the most difficult thing you will have to do.) There are group projects, concert reports, and some extra credit! Take her!
She assigns a bunch of pointless work like 3 concert reports that takes at least an hour to write about a classical concert she approves not to mention having to plan at least 2 hours to attend these concerts. The worst thing was her tests, she would test about the MOST specific piece of information she barely touched on in class. NOT an easy class
Prof Imhoff posts her notes online and her exams and quizzes (which she calls tests) are all through eCampus and open note, so you could just save/copy her lecture notes and get by with a B, but she includes a few questions that were only covered verbally in lecture, so to get an A you need to attend class. There's also concert reports and projects
Professor Imhoff is so sweet. She cares so much about her students and will do anything for them. There are some outside of class requirements - 3 concert reports of events you must attend that have to come from her approved list. This was a bit of a pain but doable. Most are in College Station. One group project at the end of the semester.
Currently in her class right now, and I think she/the class is great. Many people take this class as a GPA boost/easy A and it is if you put in SOME effort. For quizzes, listen to the listening guide/read over terminology. Tests are open note, 2 group projects, and 3 concert reports. I personally like classical music, so this is a nice class.
Don't have to go to class because everything is on the powerpoint, but the quiz's are hard and going to concerts for concert reports suck
This class is not a 'show up and get an A' creative arts credit. She is excited about what she does but there is a lot of material to go over. Tests were online so that was nice but the quizzes were in class and not easy. Overall it ended up being fine just not what I had expected.
I took this class because it was supposed to be an easy A and that was not the case at all. I don't recommend taking this class unless you have a stronger musical background. Sitting through hours of concerts on a Friday night isn't my cup of tea.
Professor Imhoff is so passionate about music, and it is infectious. If you just listen to the lectures, it is an easy A. I do have some musical background which certainly helped, but with a little extra studying it would be easy. Good music class just to get a fine arts credit.
Loved her
I really liked her and the class was pretty easy. Attendance is not mandatory, but to guarantee an A I would go!
She is an awesome professor if you're looking for an easy A or B. However, you do need to put in medium effort into the class because you have 6 quizzes throughout the semester so you have to study for them. You also have 3 papers and 2 group projects that are very simple. Do not make it harder than it seems. Highly recommend her. Easy to talk to
Professor Imhoff is so kind and helpful and tells fun stories along with the lectures. The only things that are a bit annoying are the 3 concert reports and the 6 in-class listening quizzes, but they are manageable if you take notes throughout the each concert and study the listening guides.
Overall solid professor with a passion for what she teaches. She doesn't require attendance, but lectures are well-presented and she includes extra tidbits of info that might show up as bonus questions. Good speaker and well-organized.
This class is extremely easy. She's a really nice lady and very passionate about what she's teaching. The worst aspect is the concert reports. They're one of those things you just sit down and push through. Tests are online and you can work with friends and use notes. I'm normally a stickler on attendance, but you really don't need to go to class.
Definitely an easy A, I never went to class and got a good grade. Only con to this class is the concert reports because they are time consuming, but still a professor worth taking. Tests are online so you can use notes and classmates. Overall, a decent creative arts credit!
The concert reports make up a vast majority of your grade and "has to come from the specified list". I had a friend who was in the class tell me a show I went to would work, so I wrote it on that. She gave me a zero. Dropped my grade from a high A to a B by 5 points. Doesn't grade in a good time frame, also boring time if you don't like classical.
The class is easy and she is an incredibly easy grader. The concert reports are by far the worst part of the clsas because they are so long and tedious. If you go to class she kinda tells you what's going to be on the tests/quizes and gives you answers to the bonus quetions but everything is so easy that going to class probably wasn't worth it.
This class was not difficult at all. Although there are two group projects and three concert reports, Prof. Imhoff is not a difficult grader. As long as you turn everything in with all the requirements you will pretty much receive a 100. The listening quizzes are not too bad as long as you look over them a little bit before class.
Prof Imhoff is amazing. Music theory is a difficult concept but she broke it down and really took the time to make sure we all understood. Class participation is a must, attendance is mandatory. Accessible office hours and is always willing to help you understand. Occasional homework and usually weekly quizzes. Super friendly and caring.
Professor Imhoff is an extremely hard working lady and does her best to offer the highest level of education possible to her students. This class is not a blow off class, but it is an easy A if you are willing to do the work. Imhoff does not give much (if any) homework outside of the major projects for the class.
The tests are taken on your own time online which is nice. I just didn't really click with her and she wasn't my favorite professor.
This was not a super difficult class and attendance isn't absolutely mandatory, but it is hard to do well on the listening quizzes if you don't go to class. The concert reports are long and tedious, so be prepared to attend 3 concerts throughout the semester. Not hard but very time consuming. Group projects are kinda fun and all tests are online.
She's a very nice professor who genuinely cares about the well being of her students. Lectures are interesting and not mandatory, but it's helpful to go because she gives extra credit answers to her quizzes. The quizzes are taken in class, so if you wanted could only show up on quiz days which is nice.
It is an okay creative art credit but they're definitely easier classes you can take to get one. Lectures aren't very interesting, mostly just listening to classical music. You have to go to three concerts and write reports on them over the span of the semester which sucks. But, it's not that hard of an A and she's not a bad person.
I LOVED Professor Imhoff! I took this class as a creative arts credit and do not regret it. She is Australian and has an accent, making listening to her lectures more fun. I do not usually go to class, but have an A in the course. 3 concert reports, 6 quizzes, and 3 online, open-note tests. She is an easy grader and always willing to help.
Amazing teacher. Concert reports are way easier than you think. Hopefully you have a good group for the group projects, but in case you don't, as long as you do your part and let her know, she'll help you out. Try to go to the lectures because she gives little bonus notes for quizzes and exams to help you do a little better on them.
Funny prof and has interesting lectures. Attendance not mandatory but she sometimes talks about stuff that will be on the test that you have to be in class for. Easy concert reports but tedious. She's super fair and reasonable. Listening quizzes are a thing.
Took it as a mandatory creative arts class. Did not need any musical background although the little I had helped. She just wants to share her love of music. Some tedious assignments but not at all impossible. I enjoyed learning something I would not have otherwise. Would recommend to anyone willing to go to class and learn about music
Andrea Imhoff deserves five stars, and the people that rate her any less, are those who didn't even try. Musc201 consisted of 3 essays, 2 group projects, 2 exams, and a final exam. On all of her exams, you can use notes/ppts and the questions come straight from the slides. Attendance is not mandatory but can be the difference between an A and a B.
Great teacher. She has a true passion for what she teaches and is just trying to get you to like classical music more. Easy A by doing bare minimum if you were in band/are a classical music buff. Still easy but requires a little bit of studying if you have no musical experience. Would recommend for a CA credit.
This was my favorite class last semester. Easy A if you put in the effort, if you have no previous musical experience studying is mandatory. Prof Imhoff is the sweetest lady that genuinely cares about what she teaches. Grades include open note tests, a few group projects, concert reports that were actually pretty fun, and listening quizzes.
She isn't lying when she says no tricks on her tests or quizzes, just study notes/in class examples and you will be fine. 2 tests are online and straightforward, easy A on both. Her lectures are interesting to listen to and she genuinely cares about what she teaches. Would rate higher if I could, great GPA boost and awesome prof.
Dr. Imhoff loves classical music and wants to share her appreciation of it with you. Extremely easy class where the tests are pretty much handing you A's. Solid grade booster and pretty interesting class as well!
Very kind professor who loves what she teaches! Go to class, take notes, do two concert reports, and two projects. Exams and quizzes are easy. Overall easy A!!
Professor Imhoff is such a fun professor. She loves her job and wants to share her passion of music to the classes she teaches. The class is not that difficult as long as you show up to lectures and take notes. All of the tests are open note and the quizzes are listening based and fairly do-able. I recommend this course for an CD credit.
Grade was based only on two concert reports, two group projects, a few quizzes and a few exams. Exams are open note and quizzes are in class, so attendance isn't mandatory but would def recommend to get a good grade. She's a very sweet lady who loves what she teaches. Overall, this class is an easy A and a solid choice.
She actually makes an effort to connect with us and makes the class interesting and fun even in a time of quarantine.
Took this class with no music knowledge and got an A. Grade is 2 concert reports, 2 tests, 2 group projects, and 6 quizzes. All tests and quizzes are open note, you basically just need the PowerPoints and listening guides. Took this as my creative arts credit and did not regret it. Super easy and she is so sweet and just really loves music. Easy A.
I absolutely adore Prof Imhoff!! She is such a sweet and genuine person and she made every single one of her lectures so enjoyable. This class is so easy to pass but it is honestly more enjoyable if you pay attention because the material is really cool and nice to step away from my other strenuous classes. Take her!
There is a group project that is fun and easy for an A. If you miss a test/quiz instead of receiving a 0 she allows you to retake em. The quizzes are listening based and are the hardest, but she does give extra credit questions and the quiz is an mp4 file, so you can note down the composers beforehand. Tests mirror the PPTs and are quite easy
Sweetest professor ever. Really cares about her students and it shows. Had to put a little more time into this class than expected but still an easy A. Concert Reports are a pain (get them done early). Listen to what she says in class to do good on quizzes (but honestly you could be fine off of just looking over the powerpoints). Really enjoyed it.
Prof. Imhoff is the sweetest! I took her class in Spring 2020 and she was very accommodating with the pandemic. Her listening quizzes are the hardest part, and her exams are very PowerPoint heavy. The concert reports wasn't too bad as long as you got it done early. Group project was pretty fun too.
Easy A if you pay attention! She is not out to hurt your gpa. Listening quizzes are definitely hardest part. Two concert reports and two group projects. Very clear grading criteria. Read the rubrics and syllabus. Test are not bad! Very sweet lady!!
She is very straightforward about what she wants from you, and is such a sweet lady! I loved her, and had lots of fun in this class! We just had two tests, a few quizzes, two concert reports, two group projects, and a final. She always has bonus questions on tests and quizzes, and everything is open-note. An easy and chill class!
I thought Professor Imhoff was sweet but I found this class to be so annoying. She enables students to ask questions that've already been answered &/or are in the syllabus making it to where class doesnt get started until LITERALLY 15 mins EVERY TIME. Answering the same question 3-4x gets annoying & is disrespectful to students who actually listen.
She does her best to help everyone get As, she knows this is an enrichment class and tells you right out of the gates that she's not interested in messing with your GPA. Class was fun and I managed an A with minimal effort.
Prof. Imhoff is THE BEST! Her class is very interesting and laid back. Open note quizzes, and exams. Plenty of time to do everything. I took her during Fall 2020 during Covid and she recorded all of her lectures. If you take notes, you pass. Easiest A ever.
Music experience helps in this class. You have assignments where listening and telling the difference between instruments is important. Not a difficult class, but paying attention to listening for differences is important. Neat class, but not my favorite here.
She's a sweet and great professor! You don't even have to have a music background to take this class, it's easy to follow, but it'd def. make it 10x even easier. She's very polite & has clear rules about assignments that are hard to mess up. Go to lectures! Her tests are open note but have some things only said in lecture, plus it's interesting :)
TAKE THIS PROF! Prof Imhoff is a queen and truly enjoys teaching this course. Her passion is strong and she values her students and their perspective. This course is graded off a few quizzes, two group projects, two concert reports, and tests. This class is an easy A if you just turn everything in. Just review the PowerPoints & you'll do great!
She's the sweetest professor I've ever had! She was so compassionate and understanding of our life circumstances in covid. Basic music knowledge makes the class ridiculously easy, and even without it, her lectures are engaging and will not require you to do much outside studying. The assignments/exams were straightforward. Great elective choice!
She is sweet prof and passionate about music but this class sucks. Tests are easy but the hard part about this class is the listening quizzes which youd think would be easy. You have to pay very close attention to all the sounds and different music and instruments which is hard. Shes not very organized either and just goes off topic.
This class is sort of a joke. Most people do not show up to lectures, and most quizzes and tests are open notes so it does not matter. Just take notes from the power points before the assignments and it will be fine. The main part of the class that I can see being annoying is concert reports, but currently, you are able to go to online concerts.
Nice prof and knows that most people are only in the class for credit. If you don't have a background in music the class is pretty tough and she expects you to know it anyways but honestly a super easy class otherwise. Attendance isn't mandatory and the tests are open note. Easy A.
It's an easy class. Difficult for me to remember what songs sound like. Just take notes. She goes off the slides some, but always repeats stuff when it's super important. I'd take it again if I have to (I'm not particularly passionate about the subject). Two groups projects, two papers, had quizzes and tests.
Shes nice but the class kinda sucks. The quizzes are off of a video shes taken of her computer (bad audio quality) and the quizzes are 100% listening based. 2 papers, both are at least 3 pages SINGLE spaced. Unless you have a crack ground in Classical music youll be lost. I play guitar and I had no clue what she was talking abt most of the time
I took PERF 201 with Proffesor Imhoff and learned so much. However, I was taking it for easy credit and wanted an A but ended up with a B. The amount of work that was required for this class was way too much for a music class. It caused me so much stress and the listening guides on Canvas made it very difficult to take the quiz.
I took this class as an art credit and found it to be difficult. The exams were a lot like the PowerPoint but what I struggled with is the listening examples. When taking quizzes we would listen to a song and then have to identify the time period, name, composer, or specifics such as texture and dynamic.
I had never taken a music class before this one and Prof Imhoff really teaches everything you need to know from the ground up. She encourages participation and questions in lectures and quizzes/tests come directly from the notes (which are posted). She is super kind and understanding. I highly recommend.
Listening quizzes were hard, lectures and tests didnt line up very well
You honestly would have to do nothing in order to not receive an A or B. This class is insanely easy and has minimal requirements. What is expected of you is clearly defined from day 1 and the only thing I found slightly challenging were the listening quizzes, which were easier when reviewing the samples prior to taking the quiz. Great elective.
I took this class because my advisor told me it would be an easy A. This class was much harder than expected and most people who got an A were people who had prior music experience. The tests were pretty easy and open note but the listening quizzes were pretty difficult. I would also recommend paying attention in class otherwise you'll struggle.
Honestly wouldn't recommend this class. Listening quizzes were ridiculously specific & the final exam was the same way. It's helpful to have prior music knowledge but not crucial. Most of the stuff we learn is like ancient music history from the 1400s and different eras. Never went to class and still got an A, but didn't enjoy exams/quizzes AT ALL
This class was way more work than it needed to be. Two 3-page single spaced reports, 2 group projects, exams and listening quizzes. The listening quizzes were hard and you have to spend hours searching through the powerpoint to find the song and specifics about it. Imhoff is nice, she said she didnt want to mess w our GPA, but the class wasn't fun
This class was a lot more work than expected. It was supposed to be an easy A elective. Quizzes were very specific. I feel like her papers took up a lot of my time. Shes a great prof and she looks likes teaching her class. It was very time consuming, unless you are very passionate of learning music history, then I would recommend not taking it.
Professor Imhoff knows that most people in her class are just taking it for the credit. So she doesn't try to make her class super hard. There are two papers you have to write that have an extremely long word count minimum, but it's still basically just a completion grade. 2 group projects. Tests are easy IF you go to class.
Amazing prof!!! So funny and sweet during class. It was a little hard to contact her outside of class, but her office hours are fine. Her projects are easy and the quizzes and tests are open note. 10/10!!
10/10 Prof!! So sweet, and quizzes and tests are open note!
Professor Imhoff is super kind! All quizzes and tests are open note, the group projects are easy & she gives plenty of time to do them, she provides opportunities for extra credit, & she does not keep up with attendance. She posts her PowerPoints and most test/quiz questions come straight from the slides. This class is an easy A!
If you have any sort of musical background (like being in band or choir) this class will be a breeze. I never went to in person class because she also had ZOOM recordings of all of her lectures on canvas. There is a group project, but it wasn't difficult to do at all.
Quizzes and tests were fairly hard, but I did not attend class much. There was just a lot of random material covered in this class which did not entirely interest me which made it a bit harder than I expected. Easy A especially if you do not do my mistake and miss a bunch of classes thinking its a really easy A.
One of the most frustrating profs I've ever had the misfortune of working with. Lost 20 pts on a group project because of something that wasn't in the syllabus, and she demands a level of respect akin to an ancient god.
She is very kind, and helped me learn a lot about music overall. The quizzes and tests are based off her PowerPoints and listening guides, so be sure to use them. There are two concert reports and two group projects, but they are relatively easy.
BEST. PROF. EVER. Imhoff is a gem! She loves what she does and explains it well based on everyone's starting point (I took music theory) and is willing to adjust the syllabus as much as she needs to to make sure everyone understands. She also made sure we were ok mentally. Brilliant, talented, funny, engaging, 11/10 recommend!!
If you have any prior music theory knowledge this class will be very easy.
She was an amazing prof. and was very understanding. Fridays are online and any tests and quizzes were online as well and very easy. She was so sweet and very lenient when it came to due dates and anytime someone had questions. She also loves to hear from her students as well and is so interested in the different cultures. TAKE THIS CLASS!
I took prof Imhoff fall 2021. She is great. If you have the opportunity take her. The class is basically three papers 4 quizzes and 2 tests. It's very easy and most are open notes. the papers are super easy and should only take like 1-2 hours tops( i made a 100 on all). She is great and very passionate. Very nice lady. TAKE HER!!
Spring 2020: Imhoff is a wonderful professor! She is very caring and clearly loves music and wants students to succeed. It was an easy and fun class, and you get to learn a lot and listen a lot!
Her class is pointless. As someone with a background in classical music, much of the information is irrelevant and focused in very strange areas. Her curriculum is nonsensical. Take her for the easy A, but not if you're taking the class for the purpose of learning about music. There's a ridiculous amount of tests, but they're easy.
Took this class expecting to get an easy A and I got it. There are a lot of tests but they are pretty easy. The group projects and concert reports are pretty easy as well, which she doesn't seem to grade too hard on. Overall good class and great professor, would recommend for an easy A.
Professor Imhoff is great, and I have a lot of respect for her. PERF 201 is a joke, especially if you have any prior musical training. However, she makes the class entertaining, and she is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about music. Her lectures are partially online, and many people never show up to her class and still do well.
Even if you're not too knowledgable or into music, this class is pretty doable and lectures are interesting and enjoyable. The exams aren't difficult and are open-note, and group projects were actually pretty easy! I definitely recommend this class!
All 5 tests + final are open note and on canvas. The concert reports and group projects are graded leniently. Make sure you have a way to get notes for the group projects, because they are tested on. Definitely an easy A, with hardly any work outside of class.
I fully expected Music Theory to be a whole lot harder than it actually was. Prof. Imhoff is very nice and she makes it really easy to understand the material, plus it is a small class, which makes it easier to get help if you need it. I can't wait to take PERF 205 with her next semester.
She only holds office hours once a week, and when I tried to go to ask her to correct a grading error for me, she never showed up. Then, when I emailed her, she was very unhelpful, and she never even looked at my paper to understand the issue. Also, you are placed into groups, and if other members miss the presentation your own grade is penalized.
First off, most students take this class as a blow off/GPA booster. You would think that the course requires little time management... You're wrong! You will have 6 exams, 2 - 5 page essays, 2 group projects, and a final exam (100q). If you don't know music, prepare to grind for an A. As a STEM major, I recommend you waste your time elsewhere.
Pretty easy core curriculum credit if you're familiar with music. Final grade is made up of 5 exams (one every two weeks), 2 group projects, 2 concert reports, and a final exam. The group projects are easy to knock out pretty quickly. Concert reports are easy but long essays. Tests and final aren't too bad as long as you pay attention in lectures.
Her attendance is not the focus, but there are many projects and tests. Her classes are boring in general, but the exams are tough, so you must prepare well, especially the listening part. You only have a few opportunities to go to her Office hours, and most of the time, you have to teach yourself; this lesson is not easy, but it could be taken.
Professor Imhoff is absolutely amazing! She is funny and kind and her class was interesting too. There are several group projects, but the tests aren't bad if you practice using/identifying the listening materials she gives you. 10/10 would most definitely take a class from her again!
Professor Imhoff is kind and engaged. Took it to fulfill UCC requirement, worth it. Easy A if you go to lectures and take notes.
I thought the exams were difficult. I am a straight A student & I found myself struggling on the listening portions. You are only given 50 minutes to complete 40 questions. Studying & attending lectures is KEY to succeed. Especially because listening examples can be ANY of the links embedded in the powerpoints & there are roughly 20-30 per test
This professor is okay but a lot of her lecture just base on slide so it can be very boring. The hardest thing in this class is listening part of the test!
The class was really easy. She posted all of the lecture slides on the Canvas page. All of the exams were open notes and open internet. If you have a prior musical background, this class is VERY easy. After the first 3 weeks of class, I stopped going to the lectures because of how easy the material was.
Overall, this class was not hard, 2 concert report, 5 tests However, I got really screw over by the group project because my teammates did not show for presentation. She doesn't do rounding or give extra credit so beaware of uncaring teammates or call/spam them before presentation. Got an 89.65 and it does not round up to a A.
Exams are not hard if you attend class, take some basic notes, and organize them since exams are open notes. Some listening examples require basic music knowledge. TIP: take notes in the PP, this will help for tests - trust me. She does not grade on time - or ever. As a person, she is overly strict. If you require accommodations, beware.
This was a fun and easy class. If you attend lectures and take basic lectures you are golden for the exams. The final was a bit more difficult but that is expected. The only criticism I have is that she takes forever to grade. Overall great prof and great class!
I took this class in the fall semester, and really enjoyed it. Music Theory as a topic isn't the easiest thing ever, but this prof really helps you understand the subject. While attendance isn't mandatory, you can fall behind quickly if you skip class. There are weekly quizzes (pretty easy) and there is one exam (the final, cumulative and easy)! :)
This course is a more difficult continuation of PERF204, the prof is very kind and she understands how difficult the topics can be. She does a great job making the class interesting and making sure that nobody gets left behind. You will definitely learn a lot from her in this class, and when you struggle or miss class, she helps you keep up.
Professor Imhoff makes it such a joy to learn. One of the only profs I've had who checks in on us mentally and makes sure we're doing okay. Attendance wasn't technically mandatory, but music theory isn't easy, so if you miss several days it'll take a bit to catch up. Learned so much in this class and Imhoff is a wonderful prof!
This class was relatively easy to add to a busy semester. There are quite a bit of graded assignments such as tests, group projects, and reports, but if you get them out of the way pretty quickly the class is manageable. Having previous music knowledge helps but if you go to class you'll be good. I stopped going to class mid semester and I was fine
i stopped showing up to class after like 4 weeks of class because all the powerpoints are posted. there's 5 exams so you take one practically every 2 weeks which was annoying also two 5 page single space reports were tedious but the class was alright. the class didn't interest me but she's nice in lecture. her grading criteria is very strict
Professor Imhoff is okay... She has a hard time answering her emails... Just make sure you have a study buddy. There's 5 Test, each one has listening examples (identify the music) << Don't spend to much time while taking the test. Two 5 page Essays (Easy) and 2 Group projects (Super easy) . Good luck! Attendance doesn't matter.
5 tests, 2 papers, 2 group projects. Overall it was a good class as long as you don't fall behind. Tests are long but you're timed. Attendance isn't mandatory, powerpoints are posted on canvas. Both group projects are easy and can be done in less than a day. Pretty good and easy class especially if you already have a music background.
Bright, cheery teacher. Take each assignment seriously. She is very strict about time deadlines. The exams are time-consuming & you have to actually try if you need an A. You'll have to grind for the A. Don't need to spend hours & hours studying but be smart. She gives out exam hints during lectures so attend! I had zero music background, no stress
This class was pretty easy. You can tell she knows her information and has a passion for music. If you listen and go to class, you will get good grades on the test. For grading, she had 4 tests and 3 group projects. Pretty average class, would take one of her classes again.
This section of Music Theory 1 was pretty good. Professor Imhoff is very kind and always helpful if you ever have any questions about concepts. As someone who had a good understanding of theory going in, this class was VERY EASY for me but if you don't you may struggle. Be wary of due dates because she did change quite a few things on a whim!
great prof, extended me grace when I missed the same exam 2x due to family emergencies. I gave -0% effort and managed to pass so it's not too hard, but def not a blow off class or an easy A. could def get an A if you try. Group projects are supposed to be artistic and challenging but my groups took the easy route and we got A's on both projects...
Overall, this was a good class, but it was sometimes frustrating because it takes up a lot of your time. 5 tests, a cumulative final, 2 two-thousand-word papers, and two group projects. I did learn some interesting things, but if you already have two or three hard classes I would recommend another PERF class for the credit.
Good option for PERF class, she makes it entertaining. You don't need to study you just need to be organized. Tests are asynchronous, going to lecture helps but you can get by without. You will have to go to 2 concerts from her list (some are online/at rudder, most are free) I recommended making simple notes during. Group project was chill.
Professor Imhoff is a lovely teacher, and really enjoys what she teachers. For the exams though, you have to study a lot of content otherwise you won't do well. However, they are online, so it is a bit easier than it would be if it was in person. There are two group projects as well, but they are quite easy if you follow the rubric.
Currently taking this course can say that it should be a 301 class, not 201. Do not expect to pass if you have no prior knowledge of music. She does not start from the basics, rather she jumps in and expects you to know advanced terminology and have a musical background. Would take a different prof/class if I could. I Will end up making an A or B.
Tests, performance analyses, and group projects are all quite difficult and require a good amount of work to be prepared for/do well on. Performance analyses and group projects require a ton of creativity, and don't fit the theme of the class - you're to learn about indigenous dance and music instead of topics that may be interesting and useful.
This professor was incredibly hard to get in touch with- she did not answer an email from me for 4 weeks. Her TA was not helpful and gave rude feedback saying we should be able to speak terms in different languages. The tests consisted on audio recordings where we had to know who the composer of the music was or what era it was from.
Although she can occasionally be blunt, especially during presentations, she's a good prof and overall great! Two group projects (one you present in class) and two papers, though it's fairly simple and I found her to be an easy grader. Interesting, easy class!
Very blunt and extremely unhelpful. I tried to reach out to her multiple times in which she ignored my emails because she didn't want to deal with it. Given her past ratings it seems like she used to be a better professor. The course is unnecessarily hard and not even an easy B. Take a different class/prof and save yourself the time and energy.
NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS. Tests were ridiculously hard you have to listen to clips and answer questions, lectures were boring and hard to pay attention to. 2 group projects, 4 tests, packbacks, and 2 analysis papers. Group projects weren't hard. Performance analysis was a LOT but the rubric was very clear on what she wanted from you. Great teacher tho.
Take a different course. Such a time consuming class. I took her course bc her reviews looked good but I feel like these reviews are talking about a different prof bc there's just no way. Also she will not respond to your emails. This was supposed to be an enjoyable course and ended up being my only B this semester. Take a different class!
The class is very time consuming, but just take very detailed notes and you will be ahead of the curve. The performance analysis's are very long, so try to work on the paper weeks in advance and space the time out.
DO NOT THROW THIS CLASS! The premise is simple, but there's quite a lot of work. You'll have to write essays on two performances and do two group projects. As long as you stay on top of your stuff, though, this class is a semi-easy A.
If you do not care one bit about classical music, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You will suffer like crazy if you don't care about classical music. If you still plan on taking the class, stay on top of lectures, group projects, and performance analysis and you will be fine. Professor is a nice woman who cares a ton about music but is VERY unforgiving.
I think I went to class 4 times the whole semester and the class was still very easy. The only assignments are 2 group projects, 2 performance analysis's and open internet tests.
Took this class as a creative art credit. Thought an online class would be easy, but I was wrong. We had 4+ exams, two group projects, quizzes (not bad), and two 2000 word essays to write. Having to write a 2000 word essay about a topic that is hard to understand was actually miserable. Group projects were not bad if you have a good group.
This class is so much fun and professor Imhoff was a really cool professor! Lectures aren't mandatory, but it's harder to pass the tests if you don't go to class, tests are open note, but not everything is on the slides. Please be sure that you don't miss anything, as there aren't lots of chances to make up assignments. Be ready for group projects.
Easy class. Stopped showing up halfway through except for my group project and still passed. You can use your notes on your tests. Tests are online and class is cancelled for that day. Lecture heavy, but easy to follow along. Have to attend 2 performances and write a pretty lengthy paper on it using musical terms. Just use your notes.
This class had a surprisingly heavy workload, with multiple exams, essays, and group projects. However, staying on top of the material and using helpful study tools like Unstuck study made it manageable. The professor is knowledgeable but strict - engage with the content and you'll do well.
grades harshly and is a bit blunt.
