She's cool, but she goes through slides to quickly. She's very nice and helpful tho
Her lectures consist of reading exactly what the book says. Her slides are the exact photos in the book. Being a chemist and an educator are two different things. She should stick to being a chemist. Smugness is her worse quality.
She's educated in the subject, just is insensitive to the fact that her students don't already know the material that SHES SUPPOSED TO BE TEACHING. Don't ask questions in lecture, she will either make you feel stupid for asking or not answer at all.
Horrible teacher, would not recommend for anyone looking for a future to be honest. She is condescending, rude, and is careless to her students needs.
I've gone to her for help several times, and she is always willing to help. Recently, she went out of her way to ask if I needed help with an assignment. Show that you are working to understand the material, she is more than happy to help you out. It doesn't sound like these other people commenting have had much college experience, to be honest.
I have gone to her office hours before and she simply says, "Sorry, I have a meeting with my TAs." This has been during the time she posted online that she is available to help. I do not recommend anyone taking her and I am am experienced student that is majoring in Biology.
She is possibly the best Science teacher I have had at Wayne State yet! She cares so much about her students and shes so well educated on the material. Every time I have gone to her office she has helped me with everything I needed. From the looks of the other kids who complain they must not study and fail her test. You will do good if you stdy
Her teaching method is subpar, I mainly had to teach myself most of the material. After going over everything on the exam for 2 weeks, staying up until 3am every night I walk into the exam very confident and walk out even more confident. However I somehow end up with an ugly grade.
Dr. Matti is an awesome teacher. She really cares about her students and want them to do well in this class and teach the foundations they need to succeed in the higher chem classes. You will get thoroughly prepared for those classes. If you only care about grades take someone else but if you want success in all of your chem then stick with her.
Dr. Matti is a great professor! If you want to succeed in the rest of your science classes take her! She will make sure you understand the material. She's great for talking to about career options and what school is best and hardly ever closes her door so she is there for every student.
Dr. Matti was probably the teacher I truly questioned how they got to that point. Don't get me wrong she is extremely intelligent, but has no skills in teaching it to the students, especially a lecture class with 400 of them. She focuses too much on individual questions which is what office hours are for not lecture. Doesn't explain fully.
Aleks was used as a reference on how to do things specifically bc the class has 400 students, u cant expect her to cover every single thing. As for lecture, she made sure to go over important topics and gave us good tricks to remember things. Her exams were fair bc she always provided a review to clarify what will be on there. Always there for u.
I recommend that students take Dr. Matti's chemistry classes. She knows her stuff and teaches the material very well. She is willing to help her students succeed. Her door is always open. She actually reviews the material before the exam during the last lecture before an exam. I love how she teaches and she is very helpful. She's very understanding
She is honestly a great teacher but it is a chemistry class and she told us she was going to make it harder to get it us ready which is reasonable. Her lectures are so pumped and not boring at all. She's funny, nice, and smart. She's a good person and a good teacher but the class is what it is.
The stuff she teaches are exactly what's on the exams. Showed up once every two weeks and still passed the course. EchoCenter will be your friend during exam times. Her reviews are spot on. She teaches exactly what you need to know, no excess information. Totally would recommend her!
Dr. Matti's class is not as hard as other people make it seem. The reason people are complaining is because they never payed attention when it mattered. Aleks is a pain. The lectures are never boring. We cracked jokes and my class loved to clap for stuff, which made it even funnier.
Dr. Matti was amazing i had her for Chem 1040, she was great at explaining, and always took time to answer questions. Her exams were not bad at all, there were no surprises she sometimes even gave you the exact problems that will be on the exams as long as you go to lecture and review everything you should get an A
Dr. Matti is by far the greatest science professor here at Wayne. She prepares you well for each exam, she cuts straight to the point and explains any & everything in her reviews. Does an awesome job communicating with the SI leader which helps you most for each exam. She truly wants you to succeed and master the material. TAKE HER
Dr. Matti does everything in her power to watch us students succeed and cares about us a great deal. Her lectures and reviews are spot on with her exams and there are no curveballs thrown. This class was beyond enjoyable and she is truly inspiring and beautiful. You will not be disappointed nor shorted & you will be thanking her all of 122030.
Not easy professor. Makes you work a lot
Dr. Matti does everything she is capable of to make sure students pass. She tells you exactly what type of problems to expect and what you have to know and what you don't. You don't need the book, even though she requires it. Do Aleks, come to class, pay attention, and you'll get an A.
I really loved this class. Matti was a great professor she was only hated by the kids who don't try. Even if you hate chemistry you'll love her lectures as they are interesting and she tried so hard to be a cool and professional professor.
Dr. Matti is a great professor. She's tougher than Dr. Barber, but I feel that Matti better prepares you for the upper level chem classes. Many people complain that she's too tough but If you just do the Aleks, attend every lecture, and discussion you can definitely get an A. You just have to study and try, it's not that hard.
Never again. Easy class, she made it hard. She said a C in this class will get you an A in Gen Chem 1.
Dr. Matti is one of the few professors who truly wants to see her students succeed. She is willing to give extra credit, is extremely helpful in office hours, and makes it very clear what to expect for every exam.
Great professor! Not only does she make chemistry interesting but also often puts it in to relatable terms. The exams were hard but she gives you what you need to succeed. She truely cares and wants you to not only do well in this class but for your classes to come. I highly recommend taking her class. Attend and study and you will do well.
Very reasonable grading and moderately difficult exams. Listen to her extra lectures and study them and you can do great on the exams. She has lots of office hours and is very approachable. I would definitely suggest her for any lab class.
Her exams aren't bad but her notes are extremely sloppy. Get ready to teach yourself.
I took orgo2 lab with Dr. Matti. To me, the 2 lab-exams were very easy if you study the lab book very well, almost word by word. I have never talked to her, so I cant give a comment about that. But believe me, her lab exams are very fair and not hard at all. Plus, she offered a bunch of extra credits and the unlimited tries for each prelab.
You don't need the book for this class. It's a pretty straight forward class that requires work and studying on your part. Her exams are all short answer/fill in the blank. She's knowledgeable and there is a lot of help available via her office hours, you also have a discussion course, peer mentors, and SI's.
So this class in itself has fairly simple concepts and is a good way to learn and be prepared about future chemistry classes. Matti gets all the info across and her method of teaching is fine but the biggest and most worry-some part of this class are the written exams. If you care about your GPA, avoid this class solely based on the exams.
Professor Matti is a excellent teacher gives you everything you need to know while giving examples that are very resourceful. There's more than enough help for the class so there's no reason you should fail if you're going to lectures and taking advantage of the resources provided.
Dr. Matti was a very good teacher. I never had a problem with her. She loves to give extra credit. There is at least one problem of extra credit on every exam. She tells you exactly what is on the exams also. Always a straight answer with her. Some may not like her because she is tough at times but it is never on purpose.
Was very clear about how she would grade, if you study and go to the lectures you will definitely be able to get an A. She was very willing to help you do well, with extra credit, a great review before the exams, and easy to understand explanations. Would definitely take one of her classes again! Also the textbook was not used at all don't buy it
The material is not difficult, especially if you read the book and do the assigned online homework. The hard part is practicing the concepts and procedures of solving problems. Dr. Matti is very helpful, goes out of her way to aid her students, but cracks down when students take advantage of this. She's a little stern, but very knowledgeable.
She's a great prof, really cares that you learn the material for what you'll need in higher classes. Lectures are clear, she gives EXACT questions that will be on exams sometimes too. Exams are written, but gives partial credit. Learn your stuff and you won't have a hard time. I managed to get A without much work. Gives lots of extra credit!!!
She's an amazing professor. Her lectures are very clear. Towards the end she teaches you things to help you in the next chemistry class. I was upset that she did that, but it has helped me get an A in Gen. Chem.
I LOVE HER SO MUCH!! I think she's one of my favorite profs. at WSU. She does push you, but only because she cares. She gave SO much extra credit. She's very clear with what she teaches. She honestly made me love chemistry. I hate the fact that attendance was mandatory, but you learn a lot from her lectures.
You might hear a lot of mean stuff about Dr. Matti, but that would definitely be from lazy students who don't even want to work. Dr. Matti is a great professor, her lectures are crystal-clear, gives you everything you need to succeed in her class, and certainly wants to see her students succeed. Her classes are a MUST TAKE!
I'd like to start off by saying no I did not receive an A in this class and I know that's usually what students look for, an easy A... I know because I'm one of those students, but Dr. Matti not only changed my perspective in chemistry she also changed me as a student. I learned so much from her and I aspire to be as great as she is one day.
Dr. Matti is probably the best professor i've ever had. She gives student so many opportunities to do well in her class and she gives a lot of extra credit. If you don't want to put in any effort into this class you will fail, but that is your fault not dr. matti's. The people giving her bad reviews are just lazy students. Dr. Matti is amazing!
She was pretty enthusiastic about the class and was relatively nice. Some of the stuff was confusing, but she gives you so many resources that you don't really have an excuse to get a bad grade in her class. That book is actually really useful. I didn't realize it, but so many questions from the exams are directly from there,
One of the nicest professor I have taken this semester. She does everything to make chemistry crystal clear for the students. Her tests were tough but not impossible. She goes over everything again and again just to make her students understand the material. I was expecting a B grade from this class, but got a A instead. Great teacher!
Dr. Matti is hands down my favorite professor so far. She genuinely wants you to succeed and will help you anytime you ask. Her lectures and the peer mentoring she offered was the most helpful to me. People that say she's rude are typically the ones in lecture that don't shut up or are too lazy to place an effort. Take her, she's great.
Would never take again.
Professor Matti is a great chemistry teacher. She is attractive and intelligent, what more could a man ask for. On a more educational note, she teaches well and going to lectures is important. Moderate amount of homework.
If you cant make a class you have to have hospital discharge papers in order to be excused (not a medical note). She is strict about her exams. She will make you stand up and put your hands in the air the second the exam ends or else you get a zero.
I didn't learn a single thing in lecture. she cannot teach, any learning I did was from the extremely long homework assignments. Gets an attitude with students and freaks out a lot....
She has now idea how teach. She rushes through her lectures and you pretty much end up teaching yourself.
Throughout the semester, I always felt that I was one step behind Dr. Matti. She goes through her lectures fast and you can get behind very quickly. The first test is extremely easy compared to the next three and they are all hand written. The practice exams seemed helpful but when it got to the test the questions were completely different.
don't go near this class. basically end up teaching yourself everything. the SI meetings are more helpful than her lectures.
Very nice teacher who wants you to succeed. Definitely will need to work hard, but she is there to help always. Tests are tough, so you need to study a lot for them.
Weekly homework through the semester is only done for your benefit. Worth a small percent of your grade. Tests are difficult but nothing she doesn't prepare you for. She is obviously passionate about chemistry and it shows in her lectures. The grading on exams is fair as long as you show your work. Very helpful at office hours. Stay off your phone!
OK here's the breakdown. Re-listen to lectures so you don't fall behind & so you know everything covered. Do MANY practice problems. If she mentions that you will have to know the material for an exam, MASTER it. Go to office hours & SIT IN THE FRONT. Never show her your phone. Ask her questions in class. You're welcome.
Dr. Matti is so, so supportive of her students. One time, we weren't doing as well on the clickers and she said she'd change the test so we'd do better! She truly wants to help and if you go to office hours she'll tell you exactly what's on the test. The homework really helps you understand the concepts and can tip your grade up! Go to class.
Dr. Matti is very intelligent, but a little intimidating, she made me nervous to ask questions sometimes. Her tests are tough, and sometimes contain material not covered in lecture. Many test questions are taken straight from the book, so do the problems. Lectures are very fast and you can't write everything down, so Echo is a lifesaver!
Never saw her for orgo 1 lab, its all on the TA. The midterm and final were really hard and we didn't get any preparation, so its basically the lab reports that helped people pass. As long as you have a good TA you will pass the class
Dr. Matti was probably my favorite professor at Wayne State so far. She genuinely cares about her student's grades and does the most she can to try and bring them up.
Straight to the point, clear, particular about how her class runs. Come to class, show you care. Great material that she covers . If you put in the effort, you'll do well.
She is a great professor. She is fair, kind, and willing to help. DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE THAT COMPLAIN ABOUT HER!!!!! I studied 2-3 days before every exam and got nothing lower than an A-. You gotta practice and put in the work! Those that complain expect to be given a good grade!
I loved going to this class. i enjoyed every lecture. she is very hot and I believe this is the reason why I got a C+ in the class. she is fair but makes you nervous when you ask a question.
Dr. Matti is an amazing professor. I actually loved and enjoyed class. She is REALLY big on attendance. There are iClicker points used for participation. For the final she will give an extra credit which you will only know if you attend class. If you study, you will definitely pass all the exams. Got A's on all the exams. 2 were above 100.
I would say that this professor was among the best I have ever had. Her ratings are too low. She deserves a 10/5. That's how good of an experience I had with her. If you do all homework, do practice from the book, go to office hours to ask for help, you will easily get an A. Don't forget to do the extra credit opportunities she offers. It will help
She has everything on the lecture slides. She offers much extra credits, some are sudden for those who are attending. Her tests require work and full understanding.
Show up to class and you'll definitely pass. She talks fast but posts lecture slides after each chapter which is helpful. Practice problems from the back of the book help. Put in the effort and you'll pass. IClicker is used for attendance.
amazing teacher would love to take classes with her again
She is a pretty good instructor but kind of rude sometimes in person. This class is already pretty easy and with all the extra credit its difficult to do poorly. I ended up with over 100% after all the EC.
Matti is the best. You just have to work hard and try your best. She is there to help. I easily got an A doing book problems and going to office hours. So do it!!
Dr. Matti is the best professor I have ever had. She makes sure students understand the material and takes time to go over it more than one day. She clearly tells you what is important and what is less heavy. She always makes sure there are extra credit opportunities, and she gives you time to solve problems in lecture, which many professors do not
Dr. Matti is an exceptional professor. The ppl who write negative reviews about her are the ppl who do not take the time to actually understand chemistry. She does her best, and succeeds, to explain every concept throughly, but she only has 50 mintues every lecture. She strives for everyone to do well and does not try to trick u!! Take her class!
Dr. Matti is one of those professors that tells you everything that will be on her exams and lives up to her word. Study hard and you can easily pass the class.
Dr. Matti is an amazing professor. She explains everything so clearly and genuinely cares about her students as human beings. If you pay attention to her (great) lectures, read each chapter, and do practice problems whenever you have the time, you will get an A. Basically, as long as you don't slack off, you will get a good grade. She's awesome.
This was the only class I enjoyed going to and its because Dr. Matti explained things so thoroughly and clearly that I wasn't ever confused and stressed out about what we were learning. Pay attention in class and make sure you take some time to study the material on your own (as necessary with all classes) and you will surely pass this class.
She posts her lectures online but then takes it personally if you don't attend every class
I LOVED HER! She was a little intimidating, but that didn't take away from her teaching. She made sure every student understood the concepts. Every. She would even give little life lessons to us because she cared. She would tell us everything that would be on the exam and gave extra credit on every exam. I would take her again for sure.
I WISH Dr. Matti taught CHM 1220!! She's incredibly strict, but if you go to class, take QUALITY notes, read the book occasionally, & practice some book problems, you can get an A. The final is tough but prepare & you'll be fine! Go to her office hours at least once. She's intimidating but she's an AMAZING prof! I learned so much in her class!!
Orgo Lab was really easy with her as the lab coordinator! Everything was straightforward and both the midterms and exams were easy. As long as you understood the experiments, did the lab reports, and read the lab book there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A! Plus, there's the weekly extra credit opportunity offered!
I was nervous to take chemistry in college because I had a bad experience with it in high school. Dr. Matti not only taught me a ton about chemistry, but she made it fun and enjoyable. She is one of the few teachers that actually cares about her students and whether or not we succeed. She is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had.
By far the best teacher I've had at Wayne State. She genuinely cares about the student, on the academic and individual level. The best for establishing a solid foundation in Chemistry. You have to work for your grade, like in any Chemistry course, but she makes it all fun and engaging. Awesome human being, and I wish I could take her for Gen Chem.
Best professor I have EVER had. She cares about her students so much I wanted to cry. So, unbelievably easy too while teaching you all of the important material. Lectures were actually fun to attend, she's so funny! You don't need the book, homework isn't bad, tests are easy, does iclicker. Btw, she's drop-dead gorgeous...
AMAZING PROFESSOR! If you work hard and actually pay attention in class, you will do well!! She wants you to do well, she just makes sure you work for it... Whatever you put into this class is what you get out of it. I went to every tutoring session and ended up with a high A! Would take her again if I had the chance. She made me love chemistry.
She really cares about her students! If you put in the effort, you can definitely get an A. Best chemistry professor out there. She gives a ton of extra credit her tests are easy if you come to lecture.
I LOVE DR MATTI! She is so awesome and she really wants you to understand the material. She gives a TON of extra credit because she understands chemistry is not for everyone but I highly recommend her if you are not very good at chemistry.
Gives no feedback and is hard to reach because she always cancels her office hours. She's also rude and condescending when you are asking a question. She doesn't know anything about analytical chem and I had to ask Munk my questions anyways because Matti gave me incorrect information.
At first I was a little anxious bc she didn't seem super friendly/bubbly. Later I realized how little that matters considering how much she really cares about&loves her students and really wants you to learn the material. Before exams, she will lay out EXACTLY what you need to know. if you Befriend her&do your work, you'll have an A and adore her
great professor, work hard and you'll do well. does expect you to practice and do the hw. get help when you don't get something, she's friendly and the class isn't a crazy work load
I took her once and got an F and blamed life and her ways of teaching. After maturing, I took her again and man did I realize things. She is a very good professor who strives to help her students learn. If you put in the work, listen and take notes in lecture, do your homework and study, I promise you will do well. The extra credit is amazing.
I LOVE DR MATTI! She is very clear. I had her for 1040 and my general chem lab and i loved both of those classes with her. she is clear in what she expects and she is such a great professor. I would take her for every chemistry class.
Dr. Matti was an excellent professor. She put in time to make sure the entire class understood the material she was teaching, and wouldn't move on until everyone at least looked like they understood. She was very friendly and helpful in her office hours. I would definitely recommend her to anyone not too confident with chemistry.
Best Chem prof by a MILE. Exams were straightforward, but the final... dear god the final. Just took it today and nobody finished. Nobody. I have a 90% average across exams, but left 40% of the final incomplete. Study hard, attend every single lecture, pay attention, and take some speed or something to get through that final... Oh. And no curve.
Dr. Matti has to be hands down the best chemistry professor I've ever had. She is very straightforward with what will be on her test since she does write them herself. Lectures are very staightforward, OWL was due once a week or so. Easy points.
She is the best 1040 professor ever!! 10/10 I recomend her to everyone looking into taking a
Very nice teacher you have to work hard but gives a lot of extra credit
We all know you have to work for an A in Chemistry. Dr. Matti is great, friendly and to the point. Welcomes questions during lectures, encourages class participation. Do the homework, go to class prepared, bring power point lectures to class. She does not allow phone or laptop use in class. Wants your full attention. Go to peer mentor sessions.
The beginning material and tests were easy to comprehend and do well on. Near the end of the semester, concepts were more difficult but totally do-able. She is so generous with extra-credit. Her main objective is to prepare her students for CHM 1220. Always open for questions during her 250+ student lectures.
Dr. Matti is a queen. I absolutely loved having her and would definitely take her again in the future. She does an amazing job at breaking down super complicated topics. Her tests are doable as long as you study but the OWL homework was a nightmare. She actually made waking up for an 8 am chemistry course bearable.
Amazing teacher she is a gem
Dr. Matti is amazing. She does a great job explaining things and really cares about her students. Her exams are very straightforward and she is generous with extra credit. I really thought I hated chemistry before I took her class but it turned out to be my favorite class that semester. Take her!!
best professor at wayne state hands down
Strict
Verrry ruuude talk so fast, I think she used to copy from her friends which makes her ask you did you copy this from your friends!! Are you serious?? Well I don't recommend her cuz she say something for what's gonna be in the exam and tell you to skip some stuff and give you questions from the part we are suppose to skip!! Stay away!!
Amazing professor
Great at explaining concepts and really wants you to learn, but she's definitely a straightforward and blunt professor. You can tell she favors some students over others. Exams are fair and she reviews beforehand, but the final was insane and way too long. Told us not to study concepts that ended up on there. Pulls exam Qs from book problems.
Go to Class and you can do well, simple.
Probs best teacher, only reason shes hard is cuz she teaches hard material but she teaches it so well to where its easy
Beginning of the semester she was good but then she kept making her exams really hard and the average of her exam was a D. She always had to explain herself when the grades are posted and her excuse was is that she's preparing us to be doctors. She thinks students don't care for the class. She does give extra credit.
Loved her, very smart. BUT her tests are very hard. Go to SI and read and do homework and practice problems in the book over and over and over and over
Definitely go to class or at the very least listen to the ECHO 360 lectures online. She gives out a decent amount of extra credit so take advantage of that. Going to class is what helped me succeed the most in her class.
I LOOOVED DR. MATTI! She is my favorite professor by far. Shes funny, cares about her student's grades, and gives extra credit. Yeah, Chem 1040 isn't a piece of cake but if you're a slacker don't bother taking the class. It requires hard work and studying but she's there for you for the entire ride. 10/10 I loved her would totally take again
Great professor! Made me love chemistry when I thought I hated it
she is nice but her exams are way too hard. Her exams are nothing like the examples she gives us in class. She does give extra credit. The material wasn't crazy hard but she made it way harder than its supposed to be. She takes points off everything. She is funny and smart but I wish she makes her exams and final easier.
Loved having her as my prof for CHM 1040. She is very clear during lectures and I found myself understanding what she was teaching. She always wanted her students to do well and gave extra credit lots of times. Make sure to stay on top of assignments and pay attention. I had a B+, took time studying her slides, and did really well on my final.
By far one of the nicest professor's I've had. Go to class and pay attention and you should be fine. Dr. Matti is super nice and helpful during office hours.
She is a good teacher and all but her tests are super hard. You think you did good and the test and when you get it back, it feels like its not even the test you took. The reason for that is because she makes her TAs grade the test instead of her so if she actually does the work that she is being paid for then I guess you can get better grades.
One of the absolute best science professors I've had. She makes it very clear what she expects and even problems straight out of the book for the exams. Attendance is mandatory b/c of iclicker but as long as you show up and do practice problems you'll be fine. Only annoying thing is Webassign which isn't hard, just a nuisance.
A chemistry class is supposed to be hard. No one is expecting a blow off. Dr. Matti is probably THE best professor to teach this class and has an amazing teaching style. She is modern, cool, and FRESH. I love her.
She is a Chaldean Goddess, best prof ever. Every bad rating on here is probably from students who do not put in any effort themselves. She is the best prof you will have at WSU.
Dr. Matti is one of my favorite professors at Wayne state. She truly cares about her students, and wants everyone to succeed. She can come off rude sometimes, but shes only doing it for our best interest. She gave a lot of extra credit to my class which helped a lot
Im honestly not the smartest student but her class made me feel very smart. She teaches everything down to the core and if theres something you don't understand she has office hours and helps you to the best of her ability during them. I went to every class and due to her amazing teaching style I barely had to study. Ended with an A!
Dr. Matti is my favorite professor! She requires attendance and works quickly through her lectures, but she teaches so much and in the best way possible. Lectures really do help! Once you get the hang of her exams, its really easy from there. She gives good feedback, extra credit, and will increase your exam score if the grading is off. The best!
dr. Matti is the best of the best chemistry professor at Wayne State university her exams are super easy.
If you are ever blessed with the opportunity to be taught by Dr. Matti, TAKE IT. She explains difficult topics so well that it seems easy. So funny, sweet and always offering extra credit. Take her.
Just finished dr. Mattis final and it went great. She gives great reviews and really cares about her students. You can tell he students who complain on here arent ready for college and blame her for not doing well. Wish all other profs were like her.
Dr. Matti taught this course very well. The material itself is already pretty straightforward but she offers a lot of specifics on what to study and what will be on the exam. If you go to lecture and do the work its an easy A. People leaving her bad reviews obviously don't know how college works. Profs like this are rare, so take her!!
She is AWESOME. She understands that just listening to a lecture for a long time can get boring so she breaks the monotony. She loves Lil Wayne and she is super smart and caring. She will help you in office hours as much as you need. p.s. she's beautiful
Probably the most lenient science professor in this university. You wont ever get someone as awesome as her. Just come to class, pay close attention, dont be afraid to ask questions, and do problems at the end of each chapter in the ebook. Also if youre struggling, **please** meet with the peer mentors and go to the SI sessions.
Matti is one of the best professors Wayne has to offer. She understands that youre a student and WANTS you to succeed(and will help you do so). Her exams are exactly what she goes over in review, and her peer mentors are great. She is so kind/lenient itll surprise you. Not only that but shes amazing at teaching- youll be a chem master at the end!
As a lecturer shes horrible. Just tells you stories and tries to relate them to the topic and 99% of the time it ends up not really relating to the topic. First two exams are brutal and she helps out with the last two. Then shell hit you with the most brutal final. Doesnt seem like she takes the time required to answer each question into account
She's ok I guess but I struggled real hard with her
If you don't love her at CHM 2280, then you don't deserve her at CHM 1040.
Dr. Matti is a really good professor but her lecture was very chaotic to me. She went too fast explaining things and I never felt as though I really understood what was going on. I highly suggest taking the time to rework questions she went over in class. She likes to give random EC so that was nice. She lays out what she expects you to know too.
Im not gonna lie, I'm not the smartest at chem at all. BUT Dr. Matti is actually the most unreal professor I have had at Wayne. I had her my first semester and I am now a junior. She's still my favorite prof out of all the others I've had. If someone wrote a bad thing on her its because they put in 0 work for the class and didn't like their grade.
Dr. Matti seems kind from her lectures, but is the exact opposite during office hours and email. Her responses are short and sometimes mean-spirited. Gave awful online exams that did not suit analytical chemistry well. No clear drop policy laid out for exams. Barely available outside of class for 1 on 1 meetings. 3cr class but only lectured 1hr/wk
Dr. Matti is NO NONSENSE but one of the greatest professors you will ever have at Wayne State. I had her for 1040 and am now taking analytical online. She is accommodating and straight-up. I've been dreading this class my entire college career and she made it bearable. If you get the chance - take ANY class with her. 10/10 coolest professor ever
I won't lie, Dr. Matti isn't a bad professor, however she sometimes flies through the material and expects you to know every detail on the exam. There is some material that she barely goes in depth in during lectures that will appear on the exam, so stay alert and try doing any extra practice opportunity you get.
Nobody is even allowed to talk about her. Have a problem? EMAIL HER, talk to her! I emailed her so many times about different things, and she never fails to respond. She listens and understands where her students are coming from. Just communicate with her, shes more than just a chemistry professor, and is very kind hearted!
Lectures lighter than exams. Sometimes tests you on things that were barely covered (or rushed) during lectures.
Dr. Matti was so receptive to the needs of her students as our class was online and it took some getting used to. She always took suggestions and wanted all of us to succeed. She would always make herself available to answer questions and though the course content isn't super easy, she made it digestible.
A Chaldean queen! CHEM 2280 is one of the hardest classes offered at WSU but if you have Dr. Matti CHEM 2280 is VERY doable. You need to work hard for your grade but if you put in the work you can do well. She really does want her students to succeed and is available to speak to help. Dr. Matti hands down is the best prof @ WSU. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Dr. Matti is the most caring professor I have encountered at WSU. The semester was a tough start due to being online, but she made the class very fair for the third, fourth, and final exam. She listened carefully to what students had to say, and adjusted the course to fit. Getting to know her is important, she is extremely encouraging!
Dr. Matti is the best lecturer I have had in all of college. she is very enthusiastic about her class, makes concepts seem very simple, and will go the extra mile to ensure her students success. She hosts extra study sessions, gives extra credit during lectures for those who attend, and her exams are very straightforward.
Dr. Matti is hilarious while also being passionate about her teachings. It really deepened my passion in chemistry and I guarantee it will deepen Yours. She cares about her students!!!!
She is the BEST! She creates such a positive learning environment. I have never been good at chemistry, but she explains things so it's very easy to learn. I would recommend her to everyone!
Dr. Matti is such a caring professor. She's willing to go the extra mile to make sure you're understanding the material. She also a very good lecturer.
i LOVEEEEEEE dr matti. no like I can't emphasize it enough. she is one of the BEST teachers.. actually, she is the best teacher I've ever had and I cannot wait to take for gen chem. her lectures were clear & easy to understand. she never makes you feel dumb for asking questions. TAKE HER YOU WONT REGRET IT. she made me fall in love with chem!!!
Dr. Matti was one of the best professors I've ever had. She made soo much time for the class and often did extra practice zooms at night days before our exams.
One of my favorite professors I have ever taken. She was so helpful. Always answering emails and creating night lectures to help with anybody who was confused. She was always so kind and extremely helpful. If you go to class and pay attention you will be just fine.
I took Professor Matti two years ago. She's absolutely the best teacher ever. She's super sweet & really cares about her students. Before every exam, she dedicated a good amount of time going over every detail that will be on the exam making it really easy for us to pass. She always encouraged asking questions & made sure everyone was on track.
She is literally an amazing teacher. Very tough at grading though.
VERY GOOD prof. she really works to teach her students and she really made me love chemistry. she even made Tiktoks to reach us. she loves her students and does things for the class that actually make sense. She reads her students and takes time to teach and educate. SHE IS SO CARING. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dr. Matti is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. She cares so much about her students and their understanding of the material. Goes above and beyond to ensure they feel secure in the material. Truly inspirational, I would take her for every course if I had the opportunity.
Dr. Matti is the best chemistry professor at Wayne. She cares so much about her students and wants her students to succeed. She sometimes gave out extra credit points during lecture so make sure you attend the lecture. Her exams were straight forwards and the assignments boosted your grade. I averaged an 80-85 on all her exams and ended with an A!
Dr Matti is the best professor!! She is amazing & so kind. She made chemistry so easy! She tells you exactly what is on the exams! Totally recommend her!
Dr. Matti is an amazing professor. She is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is funny, inspiring, helpful, and explains concepts in a very easy way. She became our friend throughout the semester. She really cares about her students and does all she can do to help us.
Best professor at WSU. Truly cares for her students. Her exams are very fair. Watch/attend lecture and put in a little bit of work and you will get an A.
Genuinely the best professor I have ever had at Wayne State. Is very fair with exams and grading, and will essentially tell you what is on the exam ahead of time. You need to attend meetings and pay attention for an A, but would take her class 10 times out of 10 if I had to choose a professor again.
She absolutely wants the best for her students, it's too bad that she doesn't know how to teach any of the math required for the class. She knows a lot about skin care and tiktok, but when talking about general relativity and time dilation she said time was relative because "different countries use different calenders"... so there's that.
I hate chemistry and I am very bad at it, but Prof. Matti made me not hate it so much. I've never had a more engaging, kind, and genuinely caring professor. The class is difficult for sure, but if you pay attention, there is no reason you shouldn't pass.
Shes a nice person dont get me wrong but shes terrible as a professor. She poorly explains concepts so the only way to actually learn anything is through the book which isnt even that great or through youtube. She does this thing where shell give you the material on the exam to study prior and then completely change what she said.
Dr. Matti is a wonderful professor. She is very caring and willing to listen to her students. She does a really great job thoroughly explaining the curriculum and sets clear guidelines for students to expect on exams. She uses examples from class on exams. Overall, if you don't attend lecture and pay attention, you will not pass.
Let me first say this class is not easy by any means. But Dr. Matti made it enjoyable. Anyone who says shes not the best teacher obviously failed the course and shouldnt be in college. Her lectures were amazing and explained EXACTLY what was gonna be on the exam. Take any course you can with Dr. Matti
Dr. Matti was my favorite Professor by far here at wayne! I had a C after 2 exams and she took the time to talk to me in office hours to help me raise my grade. I finished with an A. She is the most caring professor ever! My advice is do all the book problems! She pulls the exact questions from the book for her exams! She helped me stick to it!
If you show up to class and put a little effort into the class you will pass. As an intro course it is fairly easy. Extra credit is on almost every exam and the exam are easy and basically just like the examples given in class. Overall one of the best chem professors.
Professor Matti is great. Take her for your chemistry classes as she takes the lecture slow or fast when needed. She is great at explaining concepts. Decent amount of homework but not bad. Exams arent too bad
Matti is a really nice professor, but her teaching skills are not the best. Spent a lot of time reading over the chapter slides (about 100 slides), even though we only had to know 10/100 of them for the exams. Her reviews are nice, but I feel like I would've rather saved my $3,000 and taught the class to myself. All she did was read off of slides.
Dr Matti gave us many resources to help us learn. She's easily accessible to answer and explain anything we are confused about and encourages us to come and ask questions during her office hours. Her tests are straightforward and most questions come from the text book word for word. Lecture is in person or streamed live and uploaded after to canvas
Dr. Matti is truly a blessing. Has made it so much easier to understand concepts and lay good foundation for content ahead. Takes time out to address student concerns and questions. Explains concepts in detail and tries to make it easy as possible for maximum understanding. Attend/watch lectures and do practice problems extensively, you'll pass!
I respect Matti and I love how much she engages with students, but dear God, you are not a bad person if you tell someone to be quiet so you can start your lecture. She delivers chemistry to the best of her abilities and does make hard topics easy to understand. Some of her TAs are an issue though, they seem to mindlessly grade exams.
Teaching style takes sometime to get used to, but is effective. Tests are straightforward as she gives you examples of questions that will be on the test. MAKE SURE TO DO THE TEXTBOOK PROBLEMS, some of them are exactly copied on to the test.
Dr. Matti is amazing! She makes difficult concepts and makes them easy to understand. Attend the lectures, do the homework, and use the resources provided on canvas. She's super enthusiastic about chemistry, very kind to students, and lenient. I'd take any class with Dr. Matti, one of the best profs at Wayne.
She is by far one of the best proffesors at Wayne. She explains everything and does not rush the material. Make sure to do the practice exams and hw problems and it is an easy A class.
One of the best professors I've taken in my life
Dr. Matti is one of those people that restores your faith in professors. Material isn't super easy, but with some moderate studying, you'll be fine. She gives great explanations if you don't understand. She always tells us what is on the exams. The assignments are really annoying and long, but she doesn't control them.
The people writing great reviews received A's. She is extremely overrated. Horrible test grader.
In general a very sweet and caring professor however, her exams are a lot more difficult than the practice she tells us to do. She doesn't offer much extra credit and don't expect her to curve even if the class average is a D. Good person, not the best teacher and exam maker.
Dr.Matti's RMP score speaks for itself! We have exams every 2-3 weeks and there is homework assignments that cover the exam material. Listen, Dr.Matti sets her students up for success, she literally tells you what's going to be on the exam, and urges students to do book problems because thats where her exam questions come from.
I had Dr. Matti for Gen Chem 1 and she was great! She taught great and even mentioned to us what questions would be on the exam. She was also really accessible outside of class and would respond quickly to emails. Overall, she's a great prof but the class can be difficult if you are not willing to put the work in
Dr. Matti was honestly average overall/ overrated. She has trouble covering all the material, which makes us pay the price on the final. She seems very sweet in her lectures, but through email, she's very dry when responding, practically giving as little detail as possible when answering a question. I also did not enjoy her teaching style.
Goat status prof., that's all there is to say. This lab is HIGHLY dependent on accuracy, and THE FIRST THREE ARE HARD. Just push through, ask if you can do recalculations, and you'll be at an A easily.
Overrated and definitely has a condescending/unapproachable tone... I would love for someone to just humble her and let her know she's not better than anyone, but oh well. She cares WAY too much about being the "cool" professor, which results in not as helpful lectures, missed class time, and not "straight to the point" teaching.
Andrea Matti was an outstanding professor. Her lectures were informative and her exams are what you expect in a chemistry class. The reason why I got a C was that I didn't try hard enough and slacked off. She gives enough information on her exams to succeed, so don't be like me and make sure you attend the lectures! Again, ATTEND the lectures.
Hands down the best chemistry prof that I've ever had, her lectures are very well organized and she is not one of the profs that just reads off her slides. She gives really detailed explanations and explains the concepts very clearly. She literally tells you what is going to be on the test and what to study. Definitely recommend taking her.
Dr. Matti is the best chemistry prof I've had yet. The class is super straightforward, the tests are very similar to practice work. Practice exams are posted which are extremely useful. Attend lectures and do the reviews, and this class will be super easy.
Dr. Matti is a great teacher. Her lectures were very informational and she tried to personalize the information in ways we could remember them best. She also talked about how to start researching in the university and even showed her own research. Very inspirational if you want to be a chemist or get into research!
Dr. Matti is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her dedication is admirable. Not only is she enthusiastic when teaching, but she also truly cares about her students. Gen chem is known to be a weed-out class, but she makes this course bearable. Exams make up most of our grade, so study hard and rewatch the lectures!
Best STEM professor I've had at Wayne State! So caring and as long as you pay attention to her lectures and do the HW she assigns, you will pass with an A. She explains exactly what is on her exams during lectures and is very good at explaining concepts in a way that is understandable! The only reason you would not do well is if you skip lectures.
This is the best chemistry professor I have ever had. She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Tell exactly whats going to be exams and never tries to trick you. Take her if you have the chance.
The most amazing stem professor I've ever had. Sets her students up for success and shows genuine concern for them. This course is excellent for developing your basic understanding of chemistry. She doesn't curve.
she seems great and genuine in a lecture hall. one on one, another story. she needs a reality check to let her know shes not god. attitude needs humbling and feels like a dog barking at you when you try to talk to her. The class wasnt too bad other than the first exam, you get the hang of her style. dont recommend, but also don't not recommend.
In this class, make sure you have learned and understood 1040. If you have not, I suggest not taking the class yet.
Exams were straightforward. Make sure to practice questions of slides and textbook.
Tbh she's my favorite professor at WSU. I took her for CHM 1040, and it helped al lot. She keeps lectures interesting, engaging, and super kind to everyone (also very relatable). Dr. Matti really wants everyone to pass with a good grade and will cater to how the class is doing when she's writing exams.
She needs to be humbled. She seems like a kind person in lecture but is completely different one on one. I don't know why but she speaks in a very condescending tone. We waste a lot of time during lectures which makes us fall behind. Of course, we pay the price for this on the final. I think she deletes the bad reviews so be safe
Dr. Matti was amazing! She made learning fun and tried to help us understand what we were learning in lecture with examples. It is a level 3000 class so its going to be difficult but she made it so bearable. Cares for her students and will tell you exactly what is on the exam. Take her any chance you get!
Dr Matti is a wsu treasure. She is amazing and cares so much for her students. Even after you complete the class and go on to careers . This is course is extremely difficult meant weed our non serious students. Practice practice stoich. She loves participation in class. Takes problems right from the back of book. She is awesome. Take her 100 %
Once of the best professors at wayne by far! Her exams are straightforward, she does not try to trick you, if you do the homework you will get an A! Would highly recommend.
If I was taking gen chem 1, I would definitely take it with professor matti. She provides clear lectures and tries her best to help.
Dr. Matti is amazing!! she provides you with everything you need in order to pass.
First of all, Dr. Matti is an amazing person, she cares about the students and how they do in the class. She will give you the material that you need to know for exams. Her tests are from the book and from the discussion questions too. Make sure to score good grade on the exams because her final was tough
Matti never explained concepts in detail, she often skipped steps in lecture. Exam heavy, not many points outside of exams. Her exams where fair, study from the textbook! Her final exam was difficult, make sure you understand concepts. She's a decent professor. Study well and you should be fine!
Dr. Matti is really nice during lecture but she treat students very different during her office hour. Her behavior does change. During this class, I liked how she made all exams very similar to book problems, lecture notes or from discussion problem. BUT she made final exam worded differently - only her curving helped me to got the grade I want.
She was honestly a great teacher. she can be a little dismissive but her teaching makes up for it in my opinion. she explains topics very well and shes such a fair grader. She tells u EXACTLY what is on the exams, so your never surprised by anything that shows up. I liked that she used very similar- if not exact- problems from the book for exam ?'s
Amazing
Absolutely amazing to say the least! Being a new student at Wayne state i really enjoyed her lectures and really appreciated her help OUTSIDE the lecture. I had a lab final and had problems with understanding the spectroscopy machine, she literally took me to her lab and showed me how to use it! Its such a class act! Top notch proffessor!!!!
I love Dr. Matti and hate to give her anything but a 5... but this lab this semester was a mess. Everyone thought we were failing until this week when we suddenly are now doing decently?? Labs are graded on accuracy but nothing works and TAs dont get told enough are also confused and she barely comes. Any other class shed get a 5 but Analab was bad
Dr. Matti is a professor you don't want to miss. She's amazing and loves teaching chemistry which is pretty obvious. The only bad thing I can say is she'll make the rest of the department later on seem horrible because of how good at teaching she is.
For someone that didn't have any interest or knowledge of chemistry prior, she made this class as easy as possible to understand and she tried her best to make sure everybody knew the content.
Professor Matti's lectures are engaging and thorough. She is committed to student success and provides helpful guidance. Using Unstuck study ai, ChatGPT, and the textbook, I aced this challenging but rewarding course.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Matti's course! She is a wonderful professor and gives great lectures. The way she teaches makes difficult concepts easy to understand. I always felt engaged during her lectures.
I really love the way she explains, and she is very organized. I wanted to take her for my general chemistry, but she said she won't teach it for winter semester. But I would say you should take her classes. she really cares about her students.
Dr. Matti is a good professor. She is consistent with her way of teaching at all times and knows the content of the course very well. Her exams aren't too hard, and she always has a positive attitude. Just make sure to attend all classes and discussions for a chance at extra credit.
She's the goat. Best chem prof I had in my life. I used to hate chem but she made me love it. Her lectures r a bit fast but she tells u exactly what each test question is gonna have
I love Dr. Matti! She cares so much about the success of her students and strives to keep everybody motivated and alert in lecture. Grade is mostly reliant on exam scores but lectures are a great preparation for said exams.
Dr. Matti is a great professor, unlike most professors she actually teaches. she is helpful and so are TA's utilize the office hours. you will pass if you put the work in.
attendance mandatory yet lectures were usually self taught and TAs mess your grading up by 10 points everY EXAM
Very good teacher and explained things very well. Always could help with questions if needed. Not much homework or outside work from class
The professor is alright. She has a tendency to talk quickly and move quickly through the course slides. I find it odd that she claims that "the exams are 60% tougher than the practicals" and that her practice tests are never exactly the same as the real ones, given that these things ought to be beneficial. Four absences are allowed.
Make sure to attend lecture, staying at the same speed as the class will be the easiest way to prepare for exams. If you have questions ask them, she will show the class the explanation for your question to make sure everyone understands. Exams are easy for the most part usually only one or two questions are 'hard' and the rest are straightforward.
Dr Matti is by far one of the best professors at Wayne State. Understanding, engaging, educated, and dedicated are words I'd use to describe Dr. Matti. Don't be afraid to ask her for help, she's so cool.
Dr. Matti is easily the best professor in the chemistry department. She cares deeply about what she does and who her students do in her class. She is very easy to reach and talk to. 10/10
Amazing. Take her. Although if u don't study or practice I guarantee u u will not do well. Go to discussions too and don't miss class. She is wonderful. Lowest exam grade gets replaced by the final. Extra credit opportunities with attendance and on tests. However, no curves.
The best chem professor at WSU, hands down. For the students who are giving her these bad ratings, especially for 1040, you haven't experienced the other chem department professors yet. Matti gives you everything to succeed and get an A, and I feel like y'all have to understand that your final grade is not her fault.
Best prof ever!!!! Dr. Matti genuinely cares ab her students and wants them to succeed. Her lectures are so fun and in my opinion, very easy to pay attention in bc each class is 45 mins. There were 4 in semester exams and you can do good on them if you do the practice exams she gives you bc they are quite similar. Easy A class
Dr. Matti is one of the BEST professors I have ever had!!!! She is sooo cool and educated in her subject and she brings such a motivating vibe to class. So down to earth if you ever get the chance to talk to her and she will always try to help you. she cares very much ab her students success.
Had a bad experience studying chemistry in high school but was able to relearn a lot of introductory chem concepts with under Dr Matti's instruction! Matti is a great lecturer, and I actually left lectures with a pretty good understanding of what we were learning without having to do too much external studying. Attendance is mandatory
She reports negative reviews multiple times until they get taken down, that should tell you all you need to know about her as a teacher. She's here for her paycheck first, her personal work second, and students are her last priority.
She actually teaches and explains things in her lectures making it very easy to understand what is going in the class. She offered many outlets for extra help and would stop class to have us do problems together and to answer questions. She is literally amazing!!
One of the most caring and personable professors I have ever had the pleasure of having. By no means is this class an easy A, the midterms were hard, but Dr Matti does not have it out for her students. She tells us what we need to know and what to study, and is always available and eager to help during lecture and in her office.
Gotta teach yourself everything no point in even going it's a big class so hard for you to ask questions she teaches like you already know the topic
She is really nice and genuinely wants you to succeed. You just need to show a little effort.
She's a very good professor and genuinely wants you to do well. Curves at the end of the exams and if the class average is over 80% she gives extra credit. Lectures each topic really well and is always available when you need her.
A great teacher, just not as detailed as I needed. She is very caring and truly cares about your success.
the sweetest person ever! if you're struggling, you def need to go to office hours early in the semester and she'll give book problems for you to do that are very similar to exam q's. this is not an easy A class, but it is 100% doable if you put in the work from the beginning. she will curve exams and you get 5 ec on the final from discussion.
