She is very nice and very helpful. The best teacher at pcc.
I am really happy with Andrea Murray. She really has alot of experience in the field and the ability to give real, personal accounts, as examples as per the subject matter. It's a good class.
Friendly teacher. Mainly lectures. The class is easy if you pay attention, unfortuanatly i havent been paying much attention, but when i do, it makes since. She is overall a good teacher.
She's a good teacher and a nice lady. I had her for anthro 2 and 3. The tests require a lot of study time, but that's expected. She has great lectures. The only thing is that she's a really touch grader. She's not very clear about what she wants on papers and stuff. Make sure to get clarification if you need it.
Great professor if you're majoring in any anthropological field. If you need this class to fulfill a GE, do NOT take her. She is very difficult and requires a significant amount of study time. Tough grader and marks off on everything. You can get a fraction of a point for short answer question. Avg. class grade is 70. Grades on a curve, fortunatly
shes ok. first off she talks WAY to much. secondly she is not very clear in her explanations, as i feel she goes in circles! test are MC T/F and short answer. MC and T/F are tough. they are very confusing in wording. short answer is ok. gives hand out for 3 exams but little help as u still need the book and have to ready EVERYTHING& side book too!
Teaching is her part time job and she shows it. She's lazy and teaches with powerpoint, talks the whole class time. Grades very strictly. Tests are very difficult since a big chunk of her tests require short answer and she doesnt tell you what she wants on the answers. Basically, she's an objective teacher teaching a subjective class. Do not take!!
I havent received my grade yet, but I can say shes a pretty good teacher. But heres the thing, this class is work...attend, pay attention, and STUDY...shes does curve the class though
attendance is mandatory. this class requires a lot of reading and analyzing key points. theres also 2 research papers required. again, this class is not easy. subject is boring. and about the teacher, murray is a nice generous lady who curves, but this class is not easy and you have to work HARD for an A.. i got a B
I had english 1b, econ 1a, and physics 1a, but her classes requires the most effort. Reading the book thoroughly is required as well as paying full attention when she talks the whole class time. Tests are multiple choice and short answers. Most parts of her test is from powerpoit pictures which she explained. Class average on tests are bad.
Murray was an alright teacher. She made the class interesting. As long as you take good notes you can get a B. It's not hard to get an A unless you slack off.
I've had Murray for two classes and throught she was great! Classes were interesting and she was very helpful. You are challenged in the class, but I expected to have to read, listen, etc. Afterall, it is a college class.
She was extremely helpful and understanding. If you have trouble WITH ANYTHING go see her during office hours. Shes very nice and understanding. The class was actually very interesting. It wasn't too hard if you did what was asked of you. Her assignments involved fun activities.
GREAT TEACHER!grades hard but tests r on a curve. shes an active archaeologist so if this is ur focus u will learn so much. she is more than willing 2 answer any ?s in office hours. This is her passion & it shows & makes for an enjoyable class. tells u EXACTLY what she wants on papers & offers extra credit. She is very sweet, funny & easygoing <3
Amaze! Great outfits! New Age jewelery! Warm smiles. Andrea lights up the room, and she's a real live archeologist. There is a a lot of work in her classes, so I would recommend a different class if you are trying to fulfill GE requirements, but if ANTHRO is your thing I'd take her for everything.
I really like this teacher. Her lectures are very thorough, which might be off-putting to someone just fulfilling their GE, but if you like anthropology, then it's great. Her tests are HARD so make sure you study. Her assignments are pretty easy, though. I highly recommend her.
Murray is truly an amazing prof.always willing to help and very clear on material.lectures cover most material.easy A.tests are not hard if you go over notes and zim through the book.highly recommend her.through four semesters at pcc, shes by far the best prof. ive had.
Tests are pretty hard. Projects are easy but dumb. Class can get boring if you have no interest for this sub. I took it as a GE, work and a good amount of studying is required.
Very kind. Very friendly. New teacher still honing her craft. Tries to be very helpful. Do your reading and try to understand. "Have a working knowledge." Tests not a cake walk. Take/Review notes. Try and keep open mind. Doesn't know all the answers but kindness/friendliness/helpfulness make up for it.
Not very engaging. Basically she stood in front of class reciting definitions.
Ms. Murray isnt exactly hard but she is cool i really liked her class..yea she stands up and just preaches but i mean its interesting read ahead in the text and the lecture is the same thing i had a c all semester did the final paper got an A got a C on the final did the extra credit pulled a B in the class and for that i love her! lol i reccomend.
Overall a good teacher, but she sometimes treats the class as if they were kids, and repeats stuff over and over to "make sure" we get the stuff in our brains. if youre an anthropology major, some of her lectures are really concise and limiting.
She's a hard grader, you must do the reading but also attend class and take notes. Her test are hard, class might get boring sometimes but overall its a good class.
Extremely hard grader and too much work for 3 units. If you want to lower your GPA then take her class.
The tests are hard, all the things you may have studied for may not appear on the exam but the things you didn't study for may appear on it. I hate it when that happens. Her lectures are extremely long but she'll let you use a laptop. Must show up to class, read the books, participate & take notes during lectures to pass the class.
Professor Murray is really cool! Extremely knowledgable and helpful. Her class is challenging, but I learned alot in the end. One of the best Prof's at PCC!
Great teacher, not very difficult if you study a little. Fun and interesting class as well.
She's a really heard grader. Her class is incredibly boring because all she does recite what's on powerpoints. It's not really engaging at all. If you want to get into Archaeology, definitely take her class. If not, don't; you'll be bored.
so very difficult! I thought that taking archeology would be fun but I deeply regret it now! hard tests, boring lectures, and an overall boring subject. If arch is your major take it, if not then run out the door!
Boring. Unfortunatley I totally need it, so I have to man up and re-take it next semester.
Ok, she's either stoned off her ass half the time or literally knows nothing(confirmed during her dendrochronology lecture). This woman should not be teaching. Her lectures are boring, and she acts like she doesn't care. She drags her feet the entire time, pacing around the room. Don't take the class. Good luck trying to pass.
Fantastic class. Super nice prof who is willing to help outof class you just have to ask her. tests are tough if you dont study but assignments are interesting. you will learn lots.
Best prof I had this semester. Yeah it can be challenging but not everyone deserves an A. Shes a real archaeologist who really knows her stuff. Funny stories, real artifacts, and stone manufacturing. Take her!
A prof who's not just an instructor, but also an archaeologist. Though she teaches through slides, she's one of the few profs I tolerate it with. She def expands on her presentations & though this class is just INTRO to Archeo, it was still fascinating. Easy A if you do the ALL work (extra cred. included) and ace the exams.
Although i feel like she was an unfair grader in terms of tests and essays, her class was okay overall. You need to keep up with reading assignment to pass her class and not procrastinate. class is not too hard.
Worst professor I have ever had. I had her archaeology class and have never had to suffer through a class like hers. Grading was unjust, she played favorites and cared little for the students who were not Anthro majors. Avoid her class like the plague.
very nice professor. clear lectures and fun activities. she really knows her stuff. Made me want to take more anth classes.
worst professor at pcc...she is impossibly picky...hardcore grader...and gives irrelevant study guides that are essential to the final which ppl end up failing due to not having a clue of what will be on it...avoid this professor unless u want to move mountains for an A.
One of my favorite professors at PCC. Cares about students and is very helpful. Class is interesting and not too hard if you put in the work.
Super sweet + knowlegable. Funny stories and really helpful during office hours. Be prepared to work but u will learn alot!
This class was fun. She's an easy teacher to get along with. She likes to crack jokes but overall class isn't that hard. Just listen to her lectures and take notes. The study guides go along with the midterms and finals. Turned out to be one of my favorite classes.
Good teacher. HARD grader!!! seriously!! i highly recommend you touch base with her and ask questions about what it is she is looking for in a paper, short answer ,etc. She is very very picky. Great lectures but just a picky grader.
LOVED IT!!!!!! She's super sweet and fun. Really knowlagable about archaeology. Very helpful too. And, great prof!
My favorite professor at PCC ... seriously!!!! Kind, helpful, funny, and knowladgable. Class was very interesting.
She was amazing and so nice. I really enjoyed her class!
Great Professor! Very helpful, especially at office hours. Tests are pretty straight forward, based on lectures. Use study guide and you will be fine. 3 projects. 1 requires you to find a cultural event to attend. Fair grader but took forever to grade our assignments. If you have to take anthro shes a great teacher to have.
Easy and fun class. Can get away without buying the book, as her notes and study guides are incredibly detailed. there are two 6 page papers, and three exams. Take her!
pretty easy class. The lectures are straightforward and cover material featured on the test.
Pretty easy class if you do the work. Lectures are straightforward and cover material on the test.
Fun class. copy PP cuz thats where the tests mostly come from. the book is a fairly easy read and interesting. She really knows her stuff, if you wanna do well go to every class. super nice and tells great stories about being out in the field.
Professor Murray is a very nice and straightforward professor. Her lectures are clear and if you follow her study guides, her tests are cake as well.
3 tests, 3 projects, a few videos. She loves teaching and she teaches it well. Group work here and there, but take notes, follow her study guide for the tests and you should be good.
Straight forward lectures that are interesting. Three projects and three exams with one opportunity for extra credit.
She is a hard-working teacher, very helpful and knows the material very well. She took a while to grade our assignments and is somewhat a hard grader when it comes to essays, short answers and projects. She's really nice, funny and very knowledgeable in her field. Not an easy class but go to all lectures, take notes and read the books!
Nice enough professor, but she is pretty lazy and you can tell this class is just a job to her. Took over 3 months to grade most our assignments. Would i recommend her? sure. lectures are interesting but the subject as a whole is pretty boring if this isnt your major
Murray is a great teacher. I feel that she knew the subject well and was very clear in what she wanted from us. The only thing that irked me about this teacher was that I took her in the fall, and she still hasn't finished grading my assignments and even took out the "my grades" folder in blackboard... Other than that, she is a great teacher!
I like that she engaged us in "hands-on" activities, but I can see how that might turn off some people who are not serious about the subject. Personally, I get bored during her lectures because her voice starts sounding monotonous, making the lectures dry. Her exams aren't easy - you REALLY have to know the materials. She's a bearable prof. though.
She is very knowledgeable in the field of study but she seems to teach just as a side thing. She has powerpoint lectures. That's all what class is, copy whats on the slides as she lectures. Somewhat easy if you put effort into studying. Only fun thing was a trip to the zoo and observe a monkey & an ape and write a paper on the experience. Got a B
Good teacher, very helpful but have to take notes in class like crazy.
I'm going to give the good things about the class and then I'm going to lay it to you. Professor Murray seems to be genuine and very understanding. However, she teaches in a way that you will have to dissect the lectures because she uses very precise terminology for the course. Hard grader and she will only give and inch of slack for mistakes.
She is very intelligent, she has actually been in the field of archaeology. She has hands-on experience. She knows what she's talking about. Lectures are detailed, not too many, if any at all, class discussions. This is the type of class you take if you LIKE, and I mean LIKE (or Love) Archaeology. Not the type of class to take for the hell of it.
Okay, first of all I really thought that I was going to enjoy this course based on the syllabus description. She is intelligent but not great at teaching. She was late everyday and missed classes. Its finals week and more than half of graded assignments have not been posted on canvas!!! Half of the stuff on her exams, never really covered in class!
Prof Murray is unorganized, she does not grade assignments for months. There were 14 chapters in the assigned textbook, but we only made it through 6. Very unfortunate. Her lectures are very slow and repetitive. Look elsewhere if this is your major.
It's true that she takes forever to grade assignments, and she cancels a lot of class meetings. All that aside, she challenges you in a good way in that she makes you apply what you learned and use your critical thinking skills. Make an effort to study power point presentations and remember details of case studies she presents, and you will do well
summer school finished yesterday and nothing has been graded. I mean get it together, students have lives too and need to know their grades. Also, i found it very bizarre that she erases all the modules from the week before. You have 5 days to take notes on whatever you can before the information is gone. Ive never heard of such non sense
Doesn't use CANVAS right, material is outdated and she is the most unresponsive professor I've ever taken. Took her online and it was an actual mess and I've taken all my classes online and am a straight A student. PCC please offer more Anthro professors.
Prof. Murray really knows what she's talking about and obviously cares about the subject. Her grading on essay portions of the test tend to be a little harsh because if you miss a single detail she knocks points off. There are 3 "Assignments" that are basically essays and a small group project. She does take awhile to grade things.
Professor Murray was great. She really cares about what she is teaching and the students she teaches. Even though we have 3 assignments you really work hard for them.
Ridiculous grader. The best category on all grading rubrics are basically "perfect" which she says is impossible, meaning you are working hard to secure a grade around the low 90's. She doesn't seem like she really cares about your struggles in group projects either; your partners get to choose a significant part of your grade which is 8% of total
She makes mistakes when scheduling canvas modules. Things are locked when they should not be. I found myself more then halfway through the semester without anything being graded. She locks prior lessons for no discernible reason, this makes it hard to prepare a study guide for the exams. The text book is free, and she responds to emails quickly.
She is absolutely crazy on grading. Her classes are very test heavy and if you mess up on one of three exams you are screwed. Also, she is very reluctant when trying to get points back for unreasonable grading. I definitely would not take her if you want to get an A.
Professor Murray is one of the best teachers at PCC. Her lectures do absolutely show up on the tests (which you should really study for as they are 60% of your grade). Her class is really interesting and she loves what she teaches. Do not expect an easy A (average on the three tests were in the 50-60% range).
ehh. She isn't very patient, which reads as her not caring for the success of her students. It seems like she regrettably comes to work every day to teach us plebian students when she would clearly rather be doing her own research.
It didn't take much to drop this class like a sack of potatoes. I was taking an online course and she made it very clear she was not going to teach outside of her posted modules. Why even be a teacher if you hate teaching?...
Weekly units start with clear summaries of what you need to do. Be sure to read them ahead of startingg homework and all is okay. Shes responds back fast and is really helpful if you ask. Stuff was graded in a week. Online lessons were interesting and fun assignments. But you gotta keep up with the work in online class and cant fall behind.
Her online course modules are removed after each week making it impossible to look back at the previous content you paid for and need to use to study. Much of the coursework is busywork that was loosely related to anthropology, but should not have been the focus of the class, like kinship diagrams. Tests are straight from the slides/reading.
Nice professor who's knowledgable, passionate, and helpful, but demands too much including projects for a GE archaeology class (because she is a professional archaeologist). I did fine in Econ and Acct 1A, but struggled in this class. Her exams were hella difficult because they barely matched the study guide even when I did the assigned reading.
No grades or feedback for 3 months. No feedback or grades before tests. No power points, no lectures..i guess thre pandemic really messed her up because she absolutly does NOT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS. Worst teacher I've ever had. Please avoid her. Study guide doesn't really help. Her tests are confusing and poorly constructed.
Absolutely terrible. Semester ended and Im still missing 5 assignments that need to be graded. Her tests were extremely hard, study guide was no help. Did not give feedback at all . Would not take her class again.
Please don't take her. If you need to take Anth 003 to transfer, take it at GCC. She's absolutly the worst ever.
Class was online cause of COVID. Interesting & fun assignments. Fare grading. Super nice and helpful prof!!
I loved the class! Really interesting lectures. Assignments like creating an exhibit, watching films on rock art and cooking an ancient recipe. Dr. Murray is really knowledgeable and nice.
So understanding and nice. I expected a C but turned out to get a B after she added my extra credit.
Interesting class with a great teacher!
I loved this class!!! So interesting and Dr. Murray is excellent. Shes inspired me to take more anthropology!
There's definitely better professor's out there, she doesn't use zoom at all even though class is meant to be synchronous. The canvas course is well organized, she doesn't grade anything on time so your grade is a mystery. Her tests are the MOST DIFFICULT ever, NOTHING will help to prepare!! But she lets you have four late assignments which are ez.
Great class. Shes organized an super nice!
Canvas is organized very well. The assignments are easy, however it does involve a lot of reading. She gives extra credit. It is at your own pace. Study guides were provided, however, a good majority of it was not in the exam and there was something different instead. She is sweet and bubbly, don't get me wrong, but her assignments are a bit much.
