I am a better writer because of Mrs. Sanelli. She gave me confidence and I would recommend her and plan on taking her again. Please note: you will have to work in her class, but she does reward good work.
ive skated through honors english classes all through school and this is the first class that im really learning how to write in (except a bit in speech 1a , but i dont know if that counts) she is a great person ...very difficult grader...hmm which seems to be the motivating factor for me to learn to write better. recommended for students who want to learn.
Best teacher ever!!
Andrea is a wonderful teacher. She really cares about her students and goes out of her way to include everyone in the class. Her writing assignments are numerous but not hard (very interesting topics). She is a super sweetheart.
She is a Great teacher. Though she may seem like a hard ass, she is not. She is really sweet, and will be there to help you, you only have to ask for the help. TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO LEARN! don't take her if you wish to just get an easy A, because that won't happen.
Forget about the work, think about the worth. Her style is breathtaking. Her existence brings tears to my eyes-TRUE rewards for your work; isn't that all we really want from life? I've finally found a role model.Heart.heart.heart.heart!Take her, just *try, and she will make sure you succeed.
Honestly, I improved my reading skills and vocabularies from her class. Not like high school teachers, she's really helpful, and her activities are very awesome! I took her class in Fall 05; I had good time!
She is the ONLY english teacher that has the biggest heart. Very caring, fair but firm. She really knows how to teach and enjoys it. Mrs. Sanelli you are truly the best.
Incredible teacher! Her classes are challenging, but totally worth it. I can honestly say that my writing improved. She is a sweetheart, and a great listener. Really interested in seing her students succeed. You won't get an easy A from her, expect to work for it. When you get your essays back, you will be really happy that your hard work paid off.
I had her for English 40 and she is by far the best English professor I've had. There is a lot of reading, but it is all covered in class discussions and you are well prepared to write the papers. She gives back lots of helpful feedback on the essays, and grades fairly.
Best teacher i've ever had! I learned a lot from her. she spends equal time with all students to ensure sucess. this was the hardest class i've taken by far and she showed me how to succeed in a subject i absolutely detest. if you spend the time following all the steps you will do well. if you slack off you will fail.
AWESOME!! I love her... She's the best english teacher i've ever had. She gave us a lot of homework, but I've learned a lot from her. Her class was fun, and I never got bored during her class time. The class discussion was also very helpful. Unlike other english classes, you get to know with all the people in the class. Highly recommended!!
Unless you like being a bland writer, don't take her class. She's nice and all but she wanted me to dumb-down my writing by not putting anything creative or even slightly inventive in my essays. She's condescending and unclear with what she wants out of your writing.
She is really cool~
SHe is very nice and trying to be funny:) She is very organized and always trying to help. BUT, she is a hard grader, it's very hard to get an A in her class. If you are looking for an easy instructor, she is NOT the one.
Sanelli is a fantastic teacher! She makes this requried course an intellectual and social experience. I really feel that I am a much more "critical thinker" now that I have completed this course. I also met and got to know some really special/smart people in her class due to the social enviornment she encourages. Loved her!!!
She's a great instructor who helps you getting prepared for English 1A. My writings are still suck, but I improved and learned so many mistakes from her papers. I passed with C; quite unsatisfied, but the course doesn't count for transferring cr. WARNING: It's not an easy A course. Attendance are very essential. Ready for grammar presentation.
She is one of the best English teachers I have had at CCSF even though I got a C the class was fun and I learned a lot. She keeps you entertained even if there is a lot of HW
Ms. Sanelli's class is arguably one of the best English classes at CCSF. It's academic and STRUCTURED English meets pop culture! Discussions are a fun forum wherein the environment facilitates the contribution of candid opinion from all. A's are as possible as the work you put into it.That said,I wish I tried harder because this class was worth it!
grammar presentation!! please be ready! hard essay, worst grade.
Sanelli gives a lot of homework! though this class is difficult, she makes sure her students are prepared for ENGL 1A. There are 6 essays, two books to read, group presentations, and many other reading assignments. No room for absences so make sure its an emergency. She keeps the class entertained and is fun to have but a lot of homework.
Best professor ever. She's crystal clear about everything she presents. If you want to become good at developing and exploring ideas she'll take you there. Be wary before enrolling in her class because it's difficult--honestly, she doesn't just give As. "As you sow so shall you reap"
Her class is somehow interting, but I did not like the fact that she likes to treat students like 5 yr old, if you step out of class, she will follow you and ask you what you left the class!! If you like to be treated like a 5yr. old take her!!
Sanelli is the BEST professor I have had during my 3 years at CCSF. I can't tell you how happy I am I took her. She is smart, passionate, nice and super easy to talk to. Her classes are fun and interesting, it's more class discussion than lecture style. She encourages critical thinking and friendly debate. Really fun amazing class, TAKE HER!!!
One of the best teachers, i ever had.Instruction for writing the essays is very clear. She is very helpful to every student. But haveto turn in essays on time. She doesn't accept late paper. Her reading assignments are very interesting.Even though she is not an easy grader, but as long as you work hard you can still get a good grade. Highly recommanded
Hard teacher, she grades HARD on essays,1 grammar presentation, quiz vocabularies that every article we read. ESL students don't take her for challenge, you will be fail. she grades hard on grammar and sentences. totally prepare you to 1A, have to WORK HARD to get C to pass.Require critical thinking! she is nice,BUT HARD!Lots of things to do in class
I just withdraw her class...and got a w...if you want to get a good grade or just want to pass her class...she's very hard,,,you have to put lots of effort..I don't quite recommend if you just want to pass the class...or get a good grade,,because it won't happen unless you work very hard..
you have to work hard to pass her class, she grades hard!if u want A or B,don't take her;you really have to work hard with crtical thinking to pass one essay. ESL students please choose another teacher if u want to go to 1A. REALLY have to read the novels,do class presentation, random VOCA quiz, she's nice&a little racism although she doesn't show it
She does encourage her students to work hard but after all that is what a good teacher does. She does pile on a heavy work load so I recommend that you prepare to leave a large bulk of time for this class. Lots of vocab quizzes, research and reading. You really do know your stuff in the end. She's very upbeat, positive and keeps you on track.
she's a very nice teacher, and her class is very interesting. However, students who enroll in her class still need to work hard. Also, she works hard on students' essays. She never hands back students' essay late. Even though her grading system is a bit picky, I still recommend her to the students who want to learn and challenge themselves.
Professor Sanelli is enthusiastic, intelligent, sociable and fun. Plus she's super hot;the photo on this site doesn't do her justice.
She's a good teacher but her class is tough. She tries to be nice although sometimes she sounds a bit condescending. Lots of work; you'll need a lot of time for her class. She is agreeable and will talk with you if you need help, but if you are someone who wants to do minimum work and get a good grade, I do not recommend her class.
Prof. Sanelli is one of those professors that will make you work hard for your grade. She is very, very helpful and makes you feel that you can do better and get a higher grade. Believes in all her students and listens to them and makes sure she has time to help each one. Highly recommended if you want to LEARN how to write and not just pass.
OMG ! Sanelli is one of the best teachers out there. Very helpful and everything she says is inspiring. Not really easy to get an "A" but if you want to learn, she's the teacher for you. What helps most is that she is willing to sit down with you and proof read your essay and tell you what you need to work on. Fantastic teacher I'll say.
She is a good teacher if you are on her good side at all times. If she has something against you, you may expect BAD grades all the way. I was an A student until I had to miss one class near the end of the semester, then mysteriously she started giving me Cs no matter how hard I tried. UNFAIR, UNFORGIVING, NOT UNDERSTANDING.
The best teacher I have had at City. She demands a lot from her students but that is the whole reason to take her. She will treat you like a college student and you will learn to write clearly if you take the essays seriously. Clear and simple curriculum- about 5 essays plus in class final essay. Also she has a warm and enthusiastic personality.
She is too hard for ESL students. I worked and studied extremely hard for this class but it seems that I wasn't glorified. She is REQUIRING the class to have a peer-review when every essay is about to be turned in the following meeting session. I have observed that she is basing her grades mostly from the students who peer-reviewed you.
This teacher is good if your willing to commit. If you are not then choose someone else who will give easy a's.
Be ready to take her class if your willing to buy lots of books. Her grading is based on grammer and if she doesnt like the essay she will give you a bad grade. It is advised that you take another teacher if you want an easy class.
Requires quite an effort to pass her class if your not good in english. I suggest choose someone that is more easy to work with. P.s she is tough on grammar.
Decent teacher very strict about attendence and turning work in on time. Not the hardest or easiest teacher. If you're up for more of a challenge I'd suggest her. Shes pretty interesting too.
I was reluctant to take her since everyone says she is hard. My first paper got a C+ which caused me to work a lot harder and have been getting B's since. I must warn you, getting an A is pretty damn hard. You must already be good at writing. She is really picky, including grammar. Overall, good teacher so take her if you want to learn!
Sanelli is a great teacher. She will make you work hard on your assignment. Do not choose her if you want an easy A, it will not happen. Even though I am not a native speaker I got an A, but I worked realllly hard to get it. Six essays plus class presentation. No mid term essay
Mrs Sanelli is a great English professor. Tough, but cares a lot. Also, very understanding. I had personal problems during the semester and she was very helpful. I wasn't able to complete the class, but she did everything she could to help me.
Ms. Sanelli is nice but she is too hard. She grades too hard and wants everything to be perfect. I would not recommend her.
Professor Sanelli is tough and the method in which she reviews your work is meticulous. If your goal is to become both an effecient and decent writer, I suggest you take this particular course. Ask alot of questions! She is, most of the time, always either in her classes or in her office. Very helpful! Learned alot!
She was extremely helpful and nice. She cares about her students. Be ready to work hard and apply yourself as you should with any class. She is really fair and i would recommend her alot!!
Best english teacher at CCSF! She is clear about her expectations. she may be hard but at the end of the semester you will be better for it. if you want to actually learn to be agood writer this is the teacher for you! I love her
Super nice lady. Really teaches the class unlike most English teachers out there. Class might get tough, but is not tough to a point where you struggle. You feel slightly challenged, but this makes you learn. Its slightly, because she is not hard or super easy. She is what I call "alright". At the end, you will learn and receive an A or B.
She demands respect and deserves every bit of it. (ended my sentence with a preposition, uh-oh) She seems so unhappy making me wonder if she choose to teach the African American English because she was required to, or was it white guilt, or maybe just her liberal duty. Very helpful, very compassionate, and expects your best.
don't take her class if you want an easy grade. she's strict with grading essays. i don't think she really helps you improve on your writing. it's either you get it or you don't.
A duo course that was intense, but very helpful towards future English courses or other reading and writing courses. It is both 96 and 1A credit with 1A level expectation throughout. Word of caution: this course is not easy for slackers or anyone who is interested in an easy A.
First of all, her class is really fun. I took her 96/1A intensive class in Fall 2012. But I failed 1A part in the final. She do care the essay format and grammar a lot. If you are weak in grammar, you should think twice to add her class. Good Luck folks.
She's really energetic and makes class always fun. But, she grades way too hard and expects too much out of you. She constantly forgets that it's 96/1A and acts like it's 1C.
I've never had such a passionate English teacher before. Not only did she open my eyes in the realm of essay writing, she also gave me inspiration to do good in this cruel and distraught world we live in. She has a great sense of humor and passion for teaching. Her topics are fascinating. The best English teacher ever.
Sanelli is a great instructor. She makes the class become more fun and engaging. However, she expects students to be a good writer, so she's a pretty harsh grader. It's a definitely a difficult class, but you can learn significance knowledge. Her class is very inspiring. Nevertheless, if you want an easy A instructor, I don't recommend her.
Andrea Sanelli is the best teacher a city college. Her class was eye-opening. English 1C with Sanelli changed how I feel about English. I loved this class with a passion. It's refreshing to have a teacher that cares as much as Sanelli. Class is not easy, but give it your all and try. You can/will succeed.
Sanelli is super great, she challenged me at the beginning of the semester and I became a better writer for it. Some of the assignments made me pull my hair out, but the struggle was good. She's funny, understanding and easy to talk to. The material was engaging and at times it felt like a social justice class combined with an english class.
Very thoughtful person. She carefully reads each essay, and expects you to integrate her suggestions in you later papers. She expects improvement no matter what level of writer you happen to be. 1C was a challenge I needed. If you want someone to carefully read your essay, then take Sanelli.
Ms. Sanelli as a person is nice but as a professor is super hard grading. I personally will not recommend anyone to take her class. she make people buy books that you will not be use more than 10 to 20 pages. Good luck if you take her 96/1A class.
personally will not recommend anyone to take her class. she make people buy books that you will not be use more than 10 to 20 pages. Good luck if you take her 96/1A class.
I found Ms. Sanelli a terrific teacher. She cares about her students and makes a little community inside her classroom. She doesn't just stand in front of a screen and lecture, she engages everyone in the lesson of the day and makes you THINK. She is challenging, just, and fair, as well as funny and passionate about her work.
Professor Sanelli is a wonderful instructor! She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She engages everyone in the lesson of the day and makes you WANT to learn the material. She is challenging, but fair. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Attendance wasn't too strict but you definitely want to show up for due dates. You will want to attend class for the sake of keeping up with the pace. It is a challenging class but you leave a better and more knowledgeable writer. She is also always willing to help during her office hours.
Mrs Sanelli's a great teacher who works very well with students. There's a lot of writing (obviously since it's a writing comp course), but as long as you stay on top of things and work with her, you should be just fine.
her class is a complete waste of time gives busy work.. you don't have to go to her classes unless you have a mandatory due date for projects. she baby's her students way to much. not to say she is an easy A because she's not. she is helpful when you go to office hours
Andrea is AMAZING. I took her 961A class and after, I didn't even want to consider the other 1C profs. The class is challenging; after all it's advanced comp, but she cares about her students & will help if you ask. Attendance isn't "mandatory", but if you miss 3 classes, you are dropped, and If you go to every class you're exempt from the final.
I took Ms Sanelli's 961A class about food. She is a fair grader if you go to office hours and go to tutoring. She doesn't take late work so don't even think about it, but it's a fun class and she's really helpful
Sanelli grades you like a grad student and teaches you like a preschooler. She wastes *every* class rambling about her life and asking students all about theirs. When she finally tries to teach us something, she further confuses everyone by not understanding the material herself. Yet, she still grades us like she actually taught us a single thing.
She is very caring of all of her students and has a personal contection with everyone. Her office hours are welcoming and its an opportunity to get extra feedback on papers and assignments. On the other hand, she is a hard grader and expects good amount of work put into the three projects. Does not ecxept late work and does not tolerate absences.
great teacher , i took this class during the summer and she was very lenient on us esp. with all of the work piled on us. she was very understanding and still passed the class because we were really trying
She is a good teacher but also a tough grader
Although she is very nice and approachable, she doesn't really TEACH you how to write or annotate anything for your paper. You have to do your own research and rely a lot on the English Lab/ Library because she will not give you anything other than moral support. Don't expect this to be an easy class!
Sanelli is a radiant ball of energy. Class time is very loosely structured and is mainly dominated by discussion. This is not the class to take to be "taught" how to write, but more so a class to encourage and refine your ideas. By this point you should have a strong collegiate writing foundation or you will be SOL. Sanelli is a true gem at CCSF.
Heavy workload, tough on attendance; balanced out by fair grading. Take notes when she assigns each essay and facilitates class discussion about it, very useful! Peer reviews are a MUST. Big (time-consuming) group project at the end of the semester. Lots of liberal politics; just roll with it. Beware: chill in class yet strict with rules.
A wonderful instructor. By the time you take 1C you should be capable of figuring out how to structure a paper yourself so Sanelli more or less guides you in how to write a paper. When the class was over I couldn't stand Didon. Also, the final group project like most group projects is stressful.
She is awesome. If you show up and do what she asks for, you will pass with a good grade. She is organized and will give you all the tools you need to succeed. She was recommended by one of my friends and I highly recommend her as well.
Sanelli's class is very balanced in terms of difficulty. It is challenging, but good grades are definitely feasible. She is definitely not a push over and she has a strict attendance policy which i feel stems from her dedication to teaching. She puts in a lot of effort and brings good energy. Solid teacher.
Attendance: Mandatory---Workload: Slightly above average---Professor is nice and understanding. Tough on grades but she sets you up for success. You will write multiple papers. She adds the classes opinion to every lecture so be prepared to have to listen to your classmates talk for an hour and a half.
Best professor I met since I am in CCSF who is very inspiring, humble. The way she motivates her students.. it is awesome. I highly recommend to take her 1A/AS class to everyone.
Professor Sanelli's class is definitely a class you have to work for. She spends some time going over the structure of your paper, does many group or partner activity and we spend alot of time discussing questions or topics as a class. She gives you a combinition of printed out article and assigns chapters for you to read. Attendance is Mandatory!
There is a lot of reading to do in that class. She offers help during her office hours and another with the teacher assistance. Be careful though as she grades hard onto the essays because they worth you final grade based on writing skills. One thing to note is that she cares about you and make sure your writing is going well.
I've taken Professor Sanelli twice now - 1A & 1C, along with the writing success project tutor Rose (who is now retired). Wonderful experiences both times - she worked with me to grapple deeper questions than were being presented in class & kept things engaging for me! Definitely take her if you can - she adapts things to your level when needed
Prof. Sanelli is amazing! She is kind, builds relationships with her students, and is always willing to help. She shows the class that she's human. Her online class meets once per week. There are 3 main essays to write during the semester and each increase in size. But they get easier because she uses "process steps" to help guide you. I Recommend!
Sanelli is an amazing teacher and person. She truly is there to help and teach the best she can. All I can say is show up, ready to participate, and the class will be so easy from there. You do have to read the books she assigns for essays.
Professor Sanelli is amazing and truly cares about her students. This was a tough class and I had to work hard, but it was so rewarding. The material she uses is interesting and thought-provoking. She is happy to explain the assignments, expectations, and answer any questions you have. She is very accessible to her students. I miss her already!
so many papers and so little time to write them. pls, be aware that there's much writing in this class. shes nice but the work is just too much. I gained a caffeine addiction due to all of this. good luck
Professor Sanelli truly cares about her students. I took her for 1A and 1C. Her assignments and essays get harder but she makes sure the class understands the topic and requirements 100%. We also had WSP tutor who helps.(take advantage of study group & written feedback) There are weekly discussion, 4 essays, 1 presentation and 1 final timed write.
I took her class spring 21. One of the questions she asked was which authors we liked. Someone said Jane Austen and she said out loud that she can't stand Jane Austen. Why even bother asking if you're just going to insult us? There was also someome in class spreading misinformation. She says she values real facts but did nothing about this person.
5 semesters of online learning and half my professors still can't use Canvas. Sanelli is one of them, she had required zoom meetings and spent the entire meeting going over the module in canvas. She didn't actually teach. There are no lectures in the required zoom meeting. NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED. If you want to be taught pick a different professor.
Great 1C teacher.I have dropped Engl many times and this semester I was close. She was there to encourage, strategize and in class she would get us started on asgmts if it was confusing! This class is hard, the nature of 1C,no getting around it. the asgmts build on themselves and the flow of the class made sense. she wants you to pass and do well!
Good teacher overall, course work is a tad bit heavy but she makes it very clear that this is a difficult class. I find her to be humorous and caring, plus she gives really good feedback.
ACTUALLY gives feedback on essays (unlike every other English teacher I've had in the class) I actually learned how to write an essay in steps that didn't fully drain me and yearn to walk onto oncoming traffic, because I do not like writing essays. But she made it so easy. And you don't have to take a final!!
Sanelli is an AMAZING English professor. She truly cares about every student and wants you to pass the class. Eng1C is advanced english, and it's a writing class. There will be lots of papers, but since you've taken 1A and possibly 1B, you should be good with that. I'd recommend taking a class that is linked with the Writing Success Project.
While being an online class you are better off going into campus to take a different professor. Sanelli takes no time teaching and doesn't support you if you deal with any emergency. No exception for COVID, for family emergency or even to attend a relatives funeral. Notice how all ratings above a 3 have a massive dislike ratio.
Sanelli is a relatively easy grader and a genuinely nice person. However, many of the actual in person classes were a complete waste of time and since attendance is mandatory you can't skip them.
A good amount of reading, but worth it. You'll learn a lot and have fun doing it too. Shes also very accommodating! Just turn things in on time.
Sanelli is a caring professor who truly wants you to succeed in this challenging English course. The workload is heavy, but she provides great feedback and support. Using unstuck AI and other study tools can really help manage the writing assignments.
I appreciate the work, though it's tough on reading. If you're a strong writer, you should do fine. Participation is key, and attendance is mandatory she's strict about it and sadly kind of rude if you are on her bad side other than that take all the help you can from the WSP and Arnie. The skills she teaches are embedded in my brain. Dont give up.
Great class just make sure to turn your assignments in on time!
