I only passed this class because I had great teachers in high school. Varricchio is lazy with teaching, incredibly condescending when students ask ANY questions, confusing in her assignments, insanely hectic (it's like watching a nonstop tornado), and genuinely made me question my passion for this language. Don't take her class, if you can help it.

Without a doubt the worse language prof I ever had. I dropped my minor because this class. She plows ahead with lecture not bothering to see if we understand. Assigns mounds of hw, but never checks or grades. Rarely called on me, or acknowledged me when I raised my hand, but gave me low participation grades. If you are struggling, she won't help u

If you don't want to work and need an easy A, then Dr. Varricchio is obviously not for you. SPA 202 is challenging, but she cares about the material, knows how to teach, and expects us to work. I find that normal, and if you like the language you will learn a lot in this course. I recommend her, and I would like to continue in SPA 301 with her.

If you come to class prepared and interested to learn it is ok. Her communication and people skills can be a bit rough around the edges but she means well. I would take her again, even if at times the work load was a bit too much. I am a much better Spanish speaker now because of her

I am right now studying for my orals for Spanish 302. I had Varricchio for SPA 301. She had us orally give a summary of our essays (minimum of 3 minutes). And I feel so much better about my oral exam today. I feel like such a better Spanish speaker and writer because of her. I really do. She is tough and has a different style but I learned a lot

First, whoever wrote the rating below should learn to write and proofread. I had Dr. Varricchio last year, and she was a great professor if you were willing to work. Thanks to her emphasis on grammar points and speaking 302 has been easier than I thought.

Dr v is a walking ball of stress. She gives nightly homework and regular use of textbook and workbook. Participation is everything in this class, but its difficult since she is hard of hearing and responds condescendingly so you gotta fight through it. Its pretty beat but coming from a non Spanish major I survived and did well it just blows

Dr. Varricchio is a high energy person and definitely has some anxiety. But she is the best Spanish professor I have ever had. I felt SO much better about Spanish after that class. That class is for people that want to learn Spanish and plan to actually become fluent. If you don't care for Spanish do NOT take this class.

Being in this class stressed me out. Dra. V was very stressed and disorganized, but she knew what she was talking about. If you're not patient enough to repeat yourself 4 times because she is hard of hearing, look for a different professor. Get ready for nightly homework both in a textbook and a workbook. If you do your work, you'll be fine.

All over the place and extremely unorganized, constantly jumping back and forth between the numerous packets she gives and the textbook. If you already know Spanish pretty well or are fluent, chances are you won't learn anything new or she just confuses you. Also is very condescending and a tough grader. Would not recommend taking a class with her.

I ended up dropping her class because of her teaching style. She never really teaches anything. She makes you do readings at home and assigns homeworks. During class she will only go over the homework assignments. So if you're not comfortable with teaching yourself new information, do not take a class with her. She is always very condescending

I would not recommend taking her. Shes very condescending and her exams are incredibly difficult. She demanded word for word definitions which don't indicate understanding of the material, just memorization. A majority of my class was straight A/B students and a number of us got C's or below.

I would avoid taking any of her classes if possible. She's a nice person and she knows her material, but she isn't great at teaching. She assigns a lot of homework, her exams are really hard and uber specific without her specifying what she expects students to write on open-ended definitions and examples & students basically teach themselves.

I took her for Spanish Phonetics and I learned a lot. Sometimes her presentation of the material made learning tricky but I was able to do well in class. It's all about how much effort you put into this course. She is knowledgeable of the material. Her class is for those that want to improve their Spanish because she makes you work for it.

I love her classes! I always learn so much from her. She is tough and pushes you but that is what you need to learn a language. If you are a NATIVE speaker I would NOT recommend taking her. She does not design her classes for native speakers, she designs them with Spanish language learners in mind.

Did not like this professor's teaching style. I felt uninspired this entire semester and if she wasn't one of the only professors teaching this course I would HIGHLY recommend not taking her or the course at all!! She's very unorganized, graded assignments late, and even says students aren't allowed to go to the bathroom with their phones!! Grow up
