She's nice, but grades hard (a couple misplaced commas could cost you an A). Attendance is also critical if you want a decent grade. Also,we had to do group presentations in her class, and I thought that was a little weird f/an English class.
Hard grader, one misplaced comma cost me a full point on a 50 point essay.

Extemely organized and well defining of what her expectations are. Watch the commas! Fair and helpful, but not easy. I would say she is a very good professor, and I would take a class from her again because she is so friendly and approachable. The online format is awesome and way convenient.
(online) Unfortunately our personalities clashed and we disagreed on her grading. She was not very organized online which made things a bit tougher than it should have been. Although, she is online quite a bit and is quick to answer any question you have.
She is a great instructor! You have to earn your grade, so know your punctuation and grammer as she is a killer! Had a blast in her class, very open and easy to express yourself.
This teacher shows exceeding favoritism while grading. If she likes you you'll get a great grade, if she doesn't you can expect average marks. I also felt she was fairly **** as most girls in the class got better grades than the guys (including one that rarely showed up).
one group presentation/portfolio due at end. you write three papers, one nariative one cause/effect, one persuasion. unfortunately there is a key element to each paper which she doesn't tell you that your grade is mostly based on. for the narriative, it is detail. like you need to be SO SPECIFIC its not even funny. overall, very happy, fun teacher.
Terribly teacher.. Honestly. She gives you way too much work. Doesnt teach you what she is looking for in a 35% of your grade research essay. Shes sweet.. but a terrible teacher. Nearly impossible to get an A.. and I'm an incredibly smart student.
This class never once goes through writing tips or help with your writing. There is a lot of busy work, and I felt the directions are never fully explained, or the grading rubric. I don't feel like I became a better writer out of it. The research paper is the majority of your grade, and she only helps with your thesis.
Very tough grader, especially with the 2 small papers and the big research paper. She'll knock some 20 points for wrong comma usage. This might be b/c she was a previous editor. She expects you to learn how to write based off the little MLA textbook. She doesn't help edit your paper. Nice and funny person though.
Not the most helpful teacher. You are on your own if you take her class. It takes a while to get used to being bombarded with workload without directions, but you would survive.
Took online class with her, her attitude throughout the entire semester emanated that she could care less. Passive-aggressive comments to students and little to no explanation on assignments/daily work. Her grading was really tough and unfair for a 100 lvl course - do not take her class.
I found it very difficult to keep up in this class, I will admit that some of the projects were interesting but she made them almost impossible to do well on. No clear direction, passive aggresive, and over all it was a pretty horrible class to attend. I've waited 2 quarters to retake English just so I wouldn't have her as a teacher again.
Super nice person! However, know your punctuation or it can cost you dearly. Not an easy grade by any means, you will have to earn it!
I took her 101/D class online and really enjoyed it! I never felt bombarded with work and she is very quick to answer questions when you have them. As with most classes, you have to put the effort in to earn your grade but it is possible to earn that A! I would definitely take her class again
Took a diversity class from her and I have to say it was very one-sided. She definitely picked her favorites and those were people with her same viewpoint. Her essays, which are the majority of your grade, are extremely difficult, and she views a C as a good grade. So if you're shooting for an easy A class, don't take this one.
She is a nice person, but definately hard teacher. Doesn't teach much but expects a lot...
Most disorganized teacher in the world...Never take a class from her. She gives 7 pages of single spaced instructions for a 3 page double paced paper. WHAT?
I thought that she was a great person but not the best teacher. I have always been a A student in English but when I had her for 101D I received my first ever C grade for English. I worked my butt off on all of my papers and she gave me C's on all of them. I was very discouraged after taking that class. If you need better than a C don't take her.
She picks students from the beginning to highlight throughout the course. I worked 10x harder in this class than in my polsci class the same quarter and got a B+ in that! After getting 2 C's on essays I had a friend who has a BA working on MA help and I still got a C on it! She has constant discussion boards that she rates on Qnty not quality.
Not an Easy A, but I took both 101D and 102D with Andrea and learned way more than any regular English class could ever hope to offer. She will tear you up on punctuation though. :-)
Taking her online course.. I absolutely hate the test essays (50 minutes) and she grades hard on those. I liked the readings that she assigns; really interesting & helps you generate discussion posts. She's very clear on what she wants from you, so follow directions. Very picky grader.
not good teacher mean and have her favorites. bad bad
Apparently in Europe during the entire class, obviously only cared about discussion board!
This professor is awesome. She doesn't grade your papers on what she wants. She's very open to personal opinions on essays. She doesn't use a format. So forget "Introduction, paragraph, conclusion."
Very kind, helpful, and understanding. I felt very confortable asking her any questions I had, and she made herself very available. Her instructions were always clear and I was never in the dark about what I needed to do to succeed in the class.
Andrea is a great teacher -- gives detailed comments on graded work but doesn't let people slide by without earning it!
The happiest prof I ever had! I took her for eng102D HY. Were divided into groups w/ 1 presentation each, daily ol responses & reading. Essay hw's w/ detailed feedback & ol tests. I honestly learned alot from her! Shes always so excited to teach, very passionate about what she does. Keep up with the work & you'll be great! Highly recommended!!! :)
I loved Andrea. She was very clear about what was required to receive a good grade in her class. She is extremely kind and understanding.
Andrea was born to teach! Very open-minded and treated everyone with respect and kindness. You need to put effort into the essays and she can be a tough grader but you will be a better writer at the end of the quarter. I LOVED the textbook - very interesting and different than usual textbooks.
English is my favorite subject, but I walked away from Andrea's class having learned virtually nothing. She assigned us a ton of easy, pointless busy work, and gave very vague prompts and directions when it came to essays. When students asked her questions, her answers would be off-topic and often make no sense. She didn't seem to care much.
Doesn't really seem to put in any significant teaching time, but she'll expect ALL of your time. She's far more concerned with how much you write, not how well you write. Great class for you to waste your time and not learn any skills.
This class is harder, compared to other English 101. The teacher's very strict in grading essay. If you good in writing essay. i am sure you can get A
Andrea is very nice. I really liked her but she's not very good at teaching. She doesn't put in very much time in teaching and her essay and test instructions are extremely vague, its ridiculous. Very tough grader, she expects students coming out of English 98 and 97 to write like a pro which is even more ridiculous. Not recommended.
Andrea is the most helpful teacher any student can ask for. She puts in effort to make sure her students learn, improve, and succeed. You’ll finish her class a better writer then what other English classes will make you. All you need to do is follow her instructions and you’ll begin to see yourself improve in your writing. Highly recommend!!
I am sitting here trying to think of what I learned this semester in Andreas class, and nothing comes to mind. She's absolutely terrible at teaching and her instructions are extremely vague, so it's very hard to do well. She's nice, but she isn't meant to teach. She should work as a city bus driver instead. Don't waste your time with her class, it's pointless, and it teaches you nothing.
Andrea is a charming and quirky professor that is passionate about grammar usage and people who are opinionated. The class I took was hybrid but in class time was very useful in giving resources for out of class time. I learned how to write essays in one night and now have a more worldly perspective on current events and controversial topics.
Taken online FALL 14. Has clear expectations. Weekly discussion boards that make up a large part of your grade. They range in tons of different worldly topics; which I loved. Answers any questions you have quickly during the weekdays. You get feedback from other students during peer edits. Put in the work and you'll get an A. Wonderful teacher.
Expects 25 "insightful" responses to student's replies to her discussion questions. This wouldn't be so hard but most of the students responses are rather mundane. Even if you did all 25 posts and they were wonderful but you did them on one day you wouldn't receive anymore than a 1020
I am not a strong writer, but I have never worked so hard for a B. She does not give a clear rubric and it really makes it tough to succeed with her papers... which are a majority of the grade. I would strongly suggest going through another teacher, not only for your G.P.A. but also for also to maximize your learning.
Fantastic teacher! She's engaging, precise, and clear.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM HER. She believes in "C" work and that's what you will get on every essay no matter how hard you try. 25 "insightful" peer responses are due weekly after the 3 topics you have to write about. Less than that effects your grade. Tough grader and instructions are less than clear. Expectations are TOO high for a 101 class.
She is a very liberal professor. Her and I might not have agreed on this issues we discussed but I enjoyed the class. The only tough part was her grading. No matter how hard I try I haven't gotten an A on a paper.
You need to be very active on the weekly discussions or you won't get a good grade. Make sure you read ALL directions when doing assignments, especially when doing peer edits/writing essays. She's a tough grader, but she will help if you ask. It was just a general English class, not too easy, but it wasn't hard. I liked her and the class.
Andrea doesn't actually teach this class, she merely grades it. The discussion requirements don't facilitate discussion, just pointless posting. The rubrics were vague and would often leave off criteria that she continued to grade on. She will not take criticism gracefully, expect even worse grades if you dare question anything in the course.
Andrea Is very funny and eccentric, one of my favorite teachers, and I will take her next class. She is not an easy A, but defiantly personable and wants you to learn and have good discussion. Though she means well, the daily discussion posts were not my favorite, but I liked it much more than the group presentations.
This was an easy A class. If you make long, thoughtful responses on the weekly discussions, she gives you an A. I would have 100+ replies on the discussions, I don't think she reads them. She is a tough grader on essays and doesn't really give good feedback, but the discussion grades seemed to overtake my essay grades making it less stressful.
Honestly the worst teacher I've ever had, do not take her!! I took her online ENG101D course and she required 25 online postings a week in the class discussion and they had to be on different days, even if you do all 25 over two daya you'll still fail. I've met other people who have had to retake her class with the same complaints.
Not my favorite instructor. Comes across condescending online, especially when questioning her vagueness. Liked to follow up with "as simple as I stated." Requires 25 posts a week spread over at least 5 days. I made sure to have at least 8 a day, just to be sure. Essays are tough. Requirements are not straight forward. Edited papers though!
This class was awful, I took her online English101D. It is not even that her class was really hard it is that if you are confused and email her she acts like she does not care to help, and just tells you to read the syllabus. Her essays require a lot of peer editing in which you are graded to do on other students.
Andrea was a somewhat tough grader, but she tells you exactly what she is expecting and what not to do. She has no chances for extra credit and online discussions posts require daily participation if you want full credit. Her class is very interesting and fun.
I have nothing but great things to say about Andrea! She is very straight forward and gets her point across in her online class. She made me a better student and writer! Only take her class if you want to learn.
Tough. Strict grading criteria. Seems a little biased when it comes to grading papers. There are 3 papers in the class. You will only pass through hard work and a lot of effort and hours spent on homework. 15 discussion posts a week, make sure to do them all.
Not a very good teacher. Everything is vague and not clear. You can't ask questions in this class. If you do she will only say look at the syllabus. She doesn't care about you or your education.
DON'T take this teacher, you will regret ):
Very hard grader. If you wrote a good paper, a 75% was awarded. Didn't give me any feedback on my final paper when she dropped 6% off my final grade, causing me to lose my A. Be prepared to write a 30-page paper when she asks for 6 pages. A 90% on a paper means extremely surpasses expectation. I recommend that you find another teacher.
Andrea class was so hard. It was my first quarter at EVCC and I had a C in the class up until my final paper. I put days of work into my essay, had several peer edits, including my teachers at my high school. No matter what, nothing was good enough. Super hard class, don't recommend.
Amazing teacher who taught me a lot, you have to be prepared to do a lot of work. If you are able to succeed in her class you will be set up for success in any English class you take.
The professor grades on a C level. So if you want anything higher than a C, you have to do everything on the rubric and think above and beyond. Super hard grader for an English 101 class. Freaking ridiculous.
One of those classes where you actually have to put in effort to get a C, if you want a higher grade gonna have to work very hard for it. She isn't the best at explaining directions either. She would just say take a look at the rubric. Andrea is very opinionated as well very one sided. Overall I would not recommend taking her class.
For an online class, communication could be better. I don't feel like I leaned anything knew in this class, but exercised the skills I already gained in high school. Make sure youTHOROUGHLY read the syllabus because she's very picky about how the format you turn in assignments. YOU ONLY NEED THE REREADING AMERICA TEXTBOOK. Didn't use the other one
Shes not as bad as others are making her seem. This class requires a lot of participation, but if you complete what is required you will get 100%. Essays are graded funky but you get a peer edit before you turn in the final version. May not be a good teacher for those fresh out of high school. Those with prev credits wont take her too personal.
Andrea is a very good professor. As long as you complete the papers that you're assigned, you'll receive a good grade. You get assigned a short paper every week based on the reading that you're assigned, as long as they're decent and complete the prompt your grade will be fine. She is very friendly and funny, I loved being in her class!
The class is doable, but be prepared for a lot of hard work. She's a very strict grader and pretty merciless in all other respects. I wouldn't recommend this class, especially if you have other classes that require a lot of your attention. The discussions are incredibly time-consuming. I didn't learn enough for the amount of work I put in.
Good class, not easy but these snowflakes are complaining about working to get a good grade... like duh its college
Andrea is awesome. I loved her class. My advice is to do all the homework, essays, and quick writes on time and to the best of your ability. I grew a lot as a writer in her class and if you want an A i would suggest going to the writing center and having them help edit your papers. Overall, I learned a lot and really enjoyed her class.
I spent most of the class class trying to figure out her syllabus and her grading criteria. It was a challenge to figure out what she was looking for, even with instructions. She gives valuable feedback though and you can tell that she just wants you to reach your full potential in her class. Try to communicate early so you aren't blindsided later.
I might be a bit biased since she liked my essays but the class was great. Mostly weekly discussions and another extra assignment. Very well-defined weekly schedule and she gave great, immediate feedback. Grading was fair and she made sure to grade well if she knew you were trying. When essays roll around the other work is not as heavy for the week
Professor Wells-Edward is amazing. She provides excellent feedback and is very helpful. I highly recommend taking her class!!! Every week, you will have a discussion that is constructive and exciting. There are a lot of essays, but if you pay attention, they are easy. You learn ALOT from this class that will help you in all other writing classes.
Andrea is simply AMAZING. She is clear and concise in her syllabus and expectations. Andrea is a very intelligent, well-respected instructor who cares very much about providing a top-notch, university style experience. She offers amazing feedback and she is very quick to respond to inquiries. I am a better student for having taken her class.
Andrea was a pretty decent professor. Her class was structured pretty well; there was a canvas class discussion about some diversity-related reading every week, and there was a total of 3 essays across the class. As long as you keep up with your work, and at least somewhat like language study, you will be fine.
Fair and clear grading, good feedback and as long as you participate in discussions regularly it is a very straightforward class.
Online class but have to be logged in and doing work at least three days a week. Tough grader, peer edits for drafts which most people don't even participate in so it's not helpful at all. Her writing style is the only style for a good grade.
This online class requires a few hours Monday through Friday reading and discussion participation for full credit on group discussions (10% overall grade). The material is about diversity and racism. She is a strict grader with zero tolerance for late work. I did not really gain any improvement in writing/comprehension skills with her curriculum.
Unnecessary amount of work for an online class with gate kept assignments. Obviously oblivious to how much time is needed to complete the work assigned. DO NOT take this class if like me you work full time and take a full load of classes. I would sooner transfer to another school before taking another class from Wells-Edwards.
Overall, an okay class and the teacher was nice. I honestly think the class was difficult for an online 101 class, but I managed. Weekly book discussions that require 10 replies. Essays every other week with peer edits and own edits. Had very specific essay formats and requirements, and was a tough grader. She was very organized which was nice.
My issue with Professor Wells-Edwards was her disrespect. She often came off rude and inconsiderate in emails. And taking this course while working a full-time job is difficult. The hardest assignment I found to do is the weekly readings, which you have a minimum of 10 posts (3 main posts/7 replies to classmates) which my computer couldn't handle.
This class claims to focus on critical analysis, but nearly every time I try to write anything of value, she seems to skim through it, not understand a thing I'm trying to say, and then gives me a harsh grade for not perfectly matching her childlike examples. Over half the student's are using AI and are making it fine. Don't bother putting effort
Ridiculous amount of work and harsh grading. Prepare to read 60 pages weekly, write 3 400+ word responses to questions, and reply to 7 students with equally long responses. Every other week you do all of that, write a longer essay, peer edit your group's essays twice in two different ways, and a timed test essay. It can take up to 30 hours a week
She is a hard grader. you need to work on assignments for 3+ days or you don't get credit. She does not care about her students whatsoever ever and accused me of lying when I couldn't access a document.
She accepts no late work and is not understanding at all. Does not care about students succeeding, she only cares that you do work 24/7.
This professor is not understanding of students time and possible emergencies that might happen. She gives no extensions on any assignments. So, it can be challenging to keep a good grade if something comes up in your life that prevents you from giving time to schoolwork.
Professor Andrea Wells, was a very kind and caring professor showing both a love for teaching and also a ability to
My Andrea was very kind and i enjoyed her lectures, she was always very attentive never left wondering anything or lost as she always helped us. I found the work she gave us challenged our composition ability and forced us to do better making me a better writer and i left this class feeling very happy and satisfied! -Fabian
