This professor is absolutely horrible. Unless you like being talked down to and always being wrong, don't take this class. She is very rude and will never change her mind even if she's obviously wrong. Don't take this class unless you want the hardest professor at the university.

This class was extremely hard. It doesn't help when you don't have a good professor there to help you. Professor Wood is that person who doesn't know her own strength. She means well, but isn't, she talks down to everyone. Is very rude and gives out way to much unnecessary work to the point where you can't get the most important stuff done.

This professor could not get worse. Rude to everyone, doesn't explain assignments clearly, and takes forever to hand things back. She'll check your rough draft, but even if you make the corrections she points out she still gives you a terrible grade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Very unfortunate experience overall. Dr. Wood is very passionate about what she teaches, however fails to A.) recognize the lack of passion her students have and B.) do anything about it. She talks condescendingly to everyone, resulting in the fear of approaching her for help. I would not recommend her unless you love english and a challenge.

She is rude. She will not help. You will go to her office and ask her about somthing if your confused and she will literally tell you to go and figure it out or "look in your notes okaayy" She treats you like a 5 year old. If you want that take this course. If you want to be treated like an adult don't take this course.

if you don't have to take her don't. You will end up dropping out of the class. It's not interesting and she is not helpful.

This was only a 1 credit class that lasted half a semester but Dr. Wood still managed to give more work than any 3 of my other classes combined. She is rude, completely unhelpful and expects graduate level work on the simplest assignments, if you have a choice of professors choose the other one, never take an english class from this woman.

I would rather go to ten thousand anatomy lectures than go to this lady. Most annoying person you'll ever meet. She assigned these ridiculous papers for every chapter that we read in a book. Papers were out of five but in the grade book they're worth 0.67 points. Wasn't worth it. She acts like you're an english major, like no this is a gen ed.

DO NOT TAKE FROM HER. I was in a 1 credit, half semester class, and it was harder than all of my other classes combined. Spent over 15 hours a week outside of class time working on her irrelevant assignments, and still barely got an A. It is not worth it and it is boring. She is rude and doesn't take the time to get to know her students.

No good, no good at all. I have her for a class now and she's awful. She's very condescending, doesn't care about her students, and is just not good at her job. Took her for a film class and thought it would be fun and easy. I WAS WRONG. Never again...

By far the worse professor at Winona State. She talks to you like you are stupid and as if she is better than you. She doesn't actually help when you ask questions, you actually just get more confused. Would not recommend! The most work I've ever had to do.

She is a very tough person and a confusing and harsh grader. Very intimidating and not straightforward when you ask for help. Nothing is graded on time and by the end of the semester I still have no idea what grade I am going to get. The class is a lot of work. Not recommended.

Lots of annoying and unnecessary in-class group activities. All quizzes and exams are on a strict 10-15 minute timer (often for more than 10 questions). Professor has an incredibly annoying voice. She is rude. She will not help. Not at all an english class, we watched films all the time.. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DO EVERYTHING FOR YOURSELF.

This class was completely online. She was very slow at grading and never uploaded content on time for students to work on but kept the same due date. If you're looking for an easy A this class is not it, sis.

I would recommend not taking this class unless you are looking for a class to take up your whole entire life. If you get her as a professor I would drop it and not take it.

Dr. Wood's ENG 111 general course should have been labeled as a 300 level film class. The feedback she gives on completed rough draft usually consists of condescending, bias-filled, and straight up rude comments. She stripped me of my writing confidence and left me crying. I felt no will to do anything for her course by the end of the semester.

Dr. Wood didn't grade anything until the very last week of the semester, and I think she just threw a grade out there instead of actually reading my work. Didn't give any feedback. Lots of work each week.

Dr. Wood does not mess around she will be straightforward with you which is good and bad. If it's not what she likes, you fail. I took this class, because I needed one more credit of English after High School and she assigns so much for a one credit course. She if very rude when giving feedback and her feedback is always late. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS

Wood requires so many discussion posts to the point where it's ridiculous. HW consists of reading 2 chapters, responding with 400-500 words min, and also having a paper due at some point on top of that. She also talks a ton during class and gives a disgusting amount of work which is a pain to juggle with other classes. Avoid her at all costs.

Professor Wood was a very difficult professor to work with. She didn’t give clear grading rubrics and she assigned a lot of work for each week. We had about 3 discussion posts about the readings that were about 4 questions and had to be around 150 words each. Also had to watch movies and sometimes pay for them. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

Avoid at all costs. I wish I would have read the reviews on here before taking her class. Refuses to give full points on any assignments, even discussion posts in which you have met all criteria. Films skewed towards feminists' movies. lack of empathy/compassion towards her students. Told me I should drop the class instead of giving advice. Avoid

She assigns pointless homework that takes 10+ hours a week. She takes forever to grade and doesn't give feedback on your papers until it's too late and is very hard grader. I will say, she gives good feedback on papers, but it only comes after the final drafts need to be submitted. She isn't accessible at all and grades based off her own opinions.

This was one of the worst classes I've taken at WSU. It's not even an English class and focuses mainly on horror films and film shots. If you think this class will be easy because it's online, IT IS NOT! She is extremely biased on gender and political views. You will almost NEVER get full points, even if you meet all grading criteria. DO NOT TAKE!!

Professor Wood rarely gives full points on assignments, even when feedback is good. She asks inappropriate questions in D2L about how sexual monsters are, which is DISGUSTING! This class mainly focuses on horror films instead of English. I learned nothing about my writing and reading, but don't worry, I know how to watch stupid movies. DON'T TAKE!

Discussion posts with multiple questions and each answer had to be at least 150 words. Made us watch hour-long videos BEFORE class on top of that, just to talk about the same stuff. Gave me all 5's on the rubric then docked me 10 pts. and didn't say why? Says attendance isn't required - then failed me for missing a few classes. Super rude too.

This professor was TERRIBLE. Assignments were graded way too hard for a level 100 class and it doesn't help that the rubrics were unclear. She expects things in the paper that were never mentioned in the videos or the rubric. Even with good feedback she never gives full points and doesn't explain her feedback at all. DO NOT TAKE!

WORST CLASS EVER! This class is ridiculous. Way too many assignments just to write 1 paper. Very strict on deadlines but very slow to grade. Had to zoom to get feedback. Condescending. Rude. More work than all other classes combined. Seems like structure of class is set up for the way her brain works, not others. 2 much for 1 credit. DON'T TAKE IT!

ENG 112 is the worst class I've taken here. Way too much work for 1 credit. I spent more time doing work in this class, then I did for all my other classes combined. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Wait another semester to take this class with a different prof. There are so many unnecessary assignments for this class.

Without going into too much detail, she was extremely rude and quite obtuse. Dropped the class as soon as I could and would not recommend.

Pushes her personal beliefs in class. She would do this so often and out of the blue that it took away from the actual lectures. What is worse is how often she would word her claims to demonize any questions or disagreement. Any student that questioned or challenged her was essentially labeled racist, sexist, etc. She has no right teaching at all!

I dont recommend taking a class with Dr.Wood

I feel bad rating her so low, because it genuinely seems like she has no training in pedagogy, but that is why she should not be teaching. Her grading criteria is not clear. I have no clue how anyone could get a 10/10 on a discussion post for her. There is also no reason for me to be doing more work in a gen ed than in my 400 level major classes!

From the information I have gathered, she is very particular with her grading. She seems to rarely give out 100 % on any discussion post, flipgrids, etc, even when a student meets all the requirements. I've also noticed that she assigns way more work than is needed for a film class. Don't recommend Dr. Wood if you want to sustain a good GPA.

I did a complete online course. 65% of your final grade is based on writing one paper, that, if not written based on what she alone wants you to write about will be graded harshly.

I would not recommend. Most of her ENG-111 class was copied from the film class she teaches. Emailing can be scary as her responses are very rude and passive aggressive. Feedback from assignments are also very rude and unprofessional. Grading is tough so don't expect to get 100% on anything. The workload is intense for a Gen Ed class. Avoid!

This course could be improved with more empathy feedback was harsh and we had no opportunities to redo any work or miss class for good reason not to mention grades are put in extremely late so you don't know your grade until the end class periods are very long seeming with just straight lecture

I took this class to complete my Humanities Goal and hoped it would be an easy A however, that was not the case. It was the most work I have done in college so far and the most writing I have done for a college class. She is inconsiderate of the amount of work she gives and expects us to know information when she hasn't taught us it. Overall hated.

Horrible Professor

a lot of discussion posts with wordy confusion questions; with both online and in person. can be a tough grader and high expectations.

Loved this class for the longest time, I had A's on all my assignments and I participated every class. I got ill unexpectedly and missed multiple classes due to being in the hospital and then recovering from my illness at home. When I returned to class I learned I failed instantly and had to withdraw.

DO NOT TAKE. Thought this was an online English class, but it's all about horror films. Requires 4 long posts a week. It's week 15 and only work through week 3 is graded. No feedback, no idea how we're doing, no chance to improve. Terrible communication. Avoid this class.

LUDICROUS amount of homework each class period that consists of about 99% discussion posts. Each discussion post has about 5 questions and each question needs about 150-200 words. Loves the sound of her own voice, almost to an absurd degree. Tries to pretend that she's always open to communication but emailing her genuinely feels intense and scary.

This class has way too much of a work load. Her lectures are long and pointless. I haven't enjoyed the class at all. The professor ruins what could be a great class with hard grading and dumb non applicable assignments.

This professor is anything but good. Don't even try to email her because she is so MEAN. This could be a good class if it wasn't for this professor. Every week you have around 8 hours of work for an ONLINE class. She is the worst grader gives you horrible feedback. On top of that she doesn't even grade what she assigns because there is SO much work

It's clear that she really cares about the topic, but oh my god. Each week, 4-6 discussion questions for the reading and again for the movie that week (150 words per question). A book chapter, and an InQuizitive. If you ask a question, you will likely get a vague and not so nice answer. TAKE ANYONE ELSE.

This class ruined my life for the entire semester. I was taking four classes in addition to it, and this class had more work per week than all four combined. I was working all day, everyday for the entire week, no breaks on weekends. The directions for some of the assignments were unclear, and she graded things based on things we hadn't learned yet
