His tests are hard, but you can redeem your grade with weekly homework which is about 1/3 of the total grade. He does a lot of calculations in class (helpful). I don't recommend taking his class at night--never lets out early and gets very boring and hard to absorb.
If you take this class, take good notes, do the homework, and ask questions. He will make you think. Learn to run numbers, look for similarities. If you take the time to ask, you will get the help you need. don't rush you're experiments... QUALITY over QUANTITY
I took this class online. The tutorials were not well written, thus I bought the book to beable to understand the material. You must take quizes over every weekend, which gets old, it would be nice if you could take them during the week, rather than on saturday and sunday. test overly difficult.
Strict but fair. Very good lecturer- even with the german accent- easy to understand. Genuinely interested in his field. No real surprises- he tells you how it's going to be- do it and you're just fine.
Explains things well. Quizzes are extremly hard but he takes all of his material from notes and homework. Don't take the night class, it's too much to understand in one 3 hour lesson at night. He is very willing to help you if you make the effort.
Lippert's a knowledgeable and organized professor, always making himself available for help. Night class is only for the most resilient students, and Lippert plans every minute of it. (You won't get out early.) Quizzes are actually more difficult than tests, though probably due to their open-book nature. Don't procrastinate, and you'll be good.
I thought he was very helpful as long as you did every thing he asked he made sure that you understood the material things came out to be very understandable. If you work all of his practice exams and I mean EVERY ONE (which can be 400+ questions each) there is no reason why you should fail. If you want the A you need to make it happen.

Dr. Lippert treats his lab students very fairly and is really willing to help. He is really nice and cares for the students. He has a German accent, but it's not too strong and he is easy to understand.
His lectures were very entertaining. He didn't give practice exams, which was okay because he told you everything he would expect you to know for the tests. He can be intimidating if you go to his office but he is more than willing to answer any questions you have. All in all a very fair grader. He is much better with partial credit than most.
Loved this class and learned a plethora of information. Dr. Lippert is sincerely interested in the students and is always willing to help out with any questions. The labs are fun, the tests are tough and the lectures are entertaining and informative.
Dr. Lippert is a great professor--clear in his expectations, examples, wants students to succeed and understand the material. He is friendly, approachable during his office hours too, I went and got help during the semester. If you put in the time, by reading the book, doing homework problems/assignments, showing up to learn- you should be fine.
Dr. Lippert is an excellent professor. He explains the material in a way that is easy to comprehend and is extremely helpful when it comes to answering any questions. I was never intimidated to get help from him, he is not at all condescending. His exams were difficult, but fair. If you study the notes and the homework, you will do well on them.
Dr. Lippert is a very honest, straight shooting professor. Don't take this class if you are not serious about school. He will make you work for your grade, but it is not impossible. He is also very willing to help if you have any questions about the class or lab. I would take Dr. Lippert again any day.
Dr Lippert is an amazing profesor. I was so glad that I took his class. Even though it's an online class, I got an A. When I've something that I don't understand, he always willing to work with me to help me to understand better. The way he explains thing is very easy to understand. The 1110 class was really fun class for me. Thank you Dr Lippert.
I had Dr. Lippert for Instrumental Analysis and Quant. He is an excellent professor who knows his stuff. Read the book, go to class, do the homework and suggested problems. If you put in the time you should have nothing to worry about. I wouldn't take this class as a filler or when taking a heavy load and working.
Dr. Lippert is outstanding! Great guy, great teacher, and he cares about his students. Always go to class and don't get discouraged on his exams. They can be intimidating, but he is fair and generous. Just try to do your best to solve every exam problem, and show him you are making a good effort.
This was my first Chem class ever. I took it online as was extremely worried that I would not do well. The text book is not needed because all information is on the website. Video lectures were included to clarify more difficult concepts. With some online classes I come out knowing no more about the subject than I did going into it. GREAT CLASS
Great guy, very patient professor. switched to his class in the middle of the semester and was very helpful. all quizes are open book open note and you can take them at home. seriously... all of them. you can retake them if you want to improve your score as well. if you struggle with chemistry, and want a shot at a good grade, take him for sure.
I took 1200 from this professor. I really like Dr. Lippert and his teaching. Such a knowledgeable teacher and I really learned a lot. I didn't do so hot in this class but I don't think it was on the teachers part. He teaches very well and with clarity. I would take another class from this professor.
Quant is a hard class because the analytical side of Chemistry is hard. Dr. Lippert is an awesome teacher though and makes the class very enjoyable! Don't worry too much about your grade because you'll probably receive a higher grade than you are expecting.
His class is hard but he is an amazing teacher. You will have to earn your grade, but if you put in the effort you can get an A. I did! I don't recommend missing class, he covers a lot of materials and explains it SO much better than the book/internet. He is a super smart guy. I definitely recommend him, it will make 1210 so much easier for you.
He is one of the best professors i have so far. He knows his stuff and always willing to help student out. His tests being open book kind of test are on the above average difficulty level. It's definitely not hard but it's challenging and required you to understand the material. Overall, take his class if you really want to learn!
The class is hard. The labs are terrible.
I took his online Chem 1200 class over the summer. It was hard, but chemistry is just a hard subject. He is way easy to work with. I would take another class from him any day.
Took this class online with Lippert and Todd Johnson. It's a difficult class but the grading was totally fair and the quizzes and tests are open book. You get three attempts at the quizzes and get to retake a test at the end of the semester if you didn't do well on one of them. Highly recommend taking this class from him; it's hard but worth it!
I found the class to be challenging, partially because it was online, but that was good. It wasn't a hard class, but you have to do the work. If you start to slack off, then it'll become very hard. I found the professors to be very helpful, and they would respond as quickly as they could. I would take another course from these professors again.
He is one of the best teachers in Weber State University. He will sit down and help you step by step if you ask him. He really cares and he would help you A LOT,you would have to do a lot of hw,every test is open book :) 1200 Chemistry .
He was a good teacher. Worked through problems with the Class and answered questions effectively. The book says optional for a reason. I never used it except for a chart or two which I'm sure you could find online. The tests were pretty difficult, but you have multiple attempts on quizes. I would recommend this class and teacher.
I learned a lot from this course. I won't lie it took an incredible amount of work. That's what helped me learn though. You will be learning more from your book and the tutorials more than anything else. 1 thing bothered me was surprise questions you would get on the exam about issues you never went over or the book/tutorial didn't mention.
The class wasn't easy by any means, but Dr. Lippert is very helpful and explains the concepts very clearly. The grading for exams is more than fair.
I had not taken a chem class in over 10 years. This class was very well organized. The tutorials explained things very well and on the more difficult concepts there were videos to further explain. Dr. Lippert was always willing to meet one on one and thoroughly explain procedures so that they were very easy to understand.
I took this class online. The tutorials were great, very organized.I did spend a lot of time studying, but it was the best explained Chemistry I've ever had.And it was actually in second language for me,since I'm Europian. I've met Dr.Lippert once, he was incredibly nice and honestly I wish he would teach 1120.Best Chem. Professor on Campus!
The class was once a week and three hours long. So it really dragged on, Dr. Lippert gave breaks through out every class, which made it bearable, tests and quizzes are timed, so practice before hand! I'm not really in to chemistry, but Dr. Lippert is a really good professor, he wants to see his students succeed. Go talk to him if you need help!
Good Professor, He is willing to help, but does not explain the topic well enough for to understand for someone that is bad at math(Not his fault). Studying your notes will not help... Quizzes and exams are very HARD! if you do not understand the material! I recommend that you save all your quizzes because they will be on the exam!!!!
As an online course it was difficult. There are weekly quizzes that are passable if you use all the attempts. The tests are not easy, but if you study you should do well. ALEKS can be very frustrating. Don't waste your time on the additional problemstutorial questions. However, Professor Lippert was very helpful and willing to answer questions.
Dr. Lipperts Quantitative Analysis class is one of the most beneficial courses for chemistry that can be taken. Dr. Lippert loves the subject and shows his students how to be critical thinkers. This course really delves into the importance of quality work in the lab and has made me a better chemist.
You will work for your grade. He doesn't curve anything in the class, but he is very lenient with partial credit. As long as you at least try the questions and you were on the right track you will get a lot of the credit. Not very much homework, but the book problems are necessary in order to do well on the tests. Overall he is a good teacher.
The online video lectures were useful. The class is laid out clearly as long as you pay attention to the syllabus & the regular announcements. You'll need to do lots of reading & studying to do well. I met him in his office once during his lunch break and while he seemed put-off at first, he warmed up when he saw how well I was doing in his class.
Great professor. Very willing to help when you have questions, I went in during office hours and he went through a lot of the questions I had with me. Videos were helpful also. Will make you work for a good grade. Would definitely take from him again. Goes through tests after they are graded to see if they can give more points.
Course was made of detailed online tutorials that read like a step by step textbook. They were clear and simple enough to understand. Lots of other resources available that they asked us to do but didn't require, I finished with 97% in the class and didn't do them. He is available in his office for questions. Uses an online program ALEKs a lot :(
Taking this class online wasn't as bad as I thought! This professor was very clear with what he expected and what was due. He was always very prompt in getting back to me through Canvas and helped any way he could. It's chemistry so it's not going to be easy but for all tests and quizzes, you can use any notes and the internet. Do the homework tho!
I felt like I was taking three different chem courses at once. Nothing matched from the tests to the homework to the study material. It didn't make sense and they don't make reviewing what you did wrong easy.
By far the hardest and BEST class I've taken. This class is literally about the details so it is very intensive but the procedures are AMAZING. They actually make sense and are easy to fallow for the first time in my chemistry career. He really shows that he actually cares about you. Elbow your way to the front row as he is incredibly quiet.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE! The teachers are very responsive, but they make the tests ridiculously hard. You use ChiTester and your answers have to be answered exactly, and they're very fussy about rounding. The practice problems they give you are nothing like the actual test problems. It's best just to use the quizzes to study.
If you are absolutely required to take this class, take it at Salt Lake Community College, Utah State, or University of Utah. Professors are RIDICULOUS. Nothing matched the study material, quizzes, tests, etc. At least at Salt Lake Community College you don't have to take this pre-req, you can move one to 1210 and 1220 AND its easier.
I took CHEM1200 from Dr. Lippert and Dr. Johnson and I loved it! They are amazing professors and they were very helpful. I had to retake this class and they made it so easy. I would take all of my chemistry classes from them if I could!
Um, I don't understand how anyone can give this professor a good rating. Nothing makes sense and none of the material relates with the tests or quizzes. Lippert and Johnson are both rude and disrespectful. Do not take this class and if you have to, good luck...
This is a hard topic to teach, especially online. Dr. Lippert (and Dr. Johnson) did a great job using lecture videos as well as the online program TopHat to teach the material. The quizzes would allow multiple attempts which is very helpful. When an issue did come up, he was very accommodating and responsive.
Lippert is a great teacher, he is very knowledgeable and helpful. This class you must put in much effort to understand and pass. However, one thing that really bothers me is his handwriting, i just can't read it. He goes through the notes very fast up on the board and you're taking notes for the whole class time. Exams are tough as well.
Dr. Lippert is always willing to answer questions. He gets to know his students and is personal and friendly, if intense. I usually struggle with chem, but he made the class easy to understand. His textbook was extremely helpful with relevant practice questions and lecture videos. He likes to lecture students on grades and procrastination lol.
I hate WSU Chemistry department. This is the 2nd time I have taken this class. I did better this time, but he didn't make it easier for me. The first day of class he was disrespectful to me and he continued to make "haha women" jokes throughout the semester. Wrote his own textbook so he thinks he's the ish. If I don't get a C I'll drop out.
Dr. Lippert was a great person to introduce me into chemistry. He taught well and took time to answer questions. Get ready to spend about 10 hours a week on this class. It takes time to truly understand the material.
He made chemistry really easy to understand. The lectures mixed with the homework was the perfect balance to understand the lectures. Great class and a great teacher.
Sorry to whoever takes a class from this professor! He moves very quickly through lectures and they don't make sense. I emailed him to ask recommendations for how to get extra help on material and he told me to figure it out. Real helpful right? Tests and quizzes are HORRIBLY written. Extremely hard. Good luck working with this guy, he is not good!
Course was team taught by Dr Lippert / Dr Johnson. TONS of homework every week, weekly quizzes, 4 exams, no final. The "interactive" TopHat textbook is horrible: FULL of typos, bad at explaining calculations, and full of pointless explanations. Only passed because I had a great tutor. HW was different from quizzes, which was different from tests.
This class was difficult. The exam average kept going down more and more with each exam. It went from 85% to 76% to 64% and finally to 58%. I never went to classes because they were too much info shoved in my brain. I ended up just reading out of the textbook-which saved me. Hes a good teacher, but the course is just A LOT of info at a fast pace.
Good teacher for a hard class, but he definitely has some quirks -- if you come to class, be prepared to be there the whole time, classic "you pay for it, you stay here" thing. Most of the grade is quizzes and exams, exam averages for my class were in the high 60s. You have to buy a textbook he wrote, and a subscription service to use it.
I took Dr. Lippert's class in combo w/ Dr. Johnson. The class is done through another program called TopHat which is an additional $80-130. My main critique would be to put a better schedule in canvas so that busy students don't forget the class exists and do everything last minute! If you have questions reach out they are eager to help!
Get ready to read. Good professor, with a very large lecture class. It is easy to get behind.
Rude and misogynistic prof. Prof. wrote the textbook, has rules specific only to this class. Outside sources (ex. tutors) will not be able to help bc of this. Prides self in taking points away with tricky questions, as opposed to teaching how to recognize tricks. You do not get to learn how to improve after tests. Test prep is completely useless.
Extremely difficult, time consuming class with punishing rules specific to their class. You can't review quiz or test answers more than once. Quizzes are extremely difficult and hurt your grade significantly. The class average on these quizzes was a 65%, tests equally so.
He can come across as harsh, but he's very flexible with due dates if you're polite about asking for extensions. Even though it's analytical chemistry, the lectures aren't boring.
Dr. Lippert is funny and engaging. He and Dr. Johnson work together and do a seriously amazing job. Any questions get fully answered and they are both extremely accessible. You will hear back from them within 24 hours (business) guaranteed. Teaching style is very streamlined. I wish they, or at least Dr. Lippert, taught the 1210 required chem too!
Joint Class with Professor Johnson. Ridiculously hard class for an entry level class. The averages on the exams were about 50%. Homework is all online and is not very helpful for the exams. I would study for 6 hours a day and my highest score on an exam was an 81% which was in the top 5% of the class. This class made me give up med school dreams
I like the textbook that was used. It taught the concepts very clearly. You'll need to be prepared to do the practice questions along with the homework so you have a solid understanding of the concepts. Teacher was helpful when I had questions and was quick on response time. This class will give back what you put into it.
Dr. Lippert was willing to sit down and make sure you understand every concept. The work is done through an online program "TopHat" and then quizzes and exams are on canvas. Quizzes can be retaken 3 times to improve your grade. He follows a chapter by week structure which is super nice. The lectures weren't my favorite but he slips some humor.
Professor Lippert was great. He gave great feedback.
TopHat application is bad. These professors deserve all the flack they get until they stop using this garbage program. I'm strapped for time, and the TopHat website won't let me login with my set email and password. I tried it 3 times; now it's making me wait 30 mins to login. It wont let me reset password. I'm considering just dropping the course.
answers are inconsistent and often wrong. too many typos to count. get ready to spend 12+ hours a week on this class. quizzes are intentionally meant to confuse you. theres more work than 5 credit hour classes here. 100+ problems every week. a quiz every week which you'll definitely need to do 3 times to get anywhere close to an A. TONS of reading.
He is not a good professor along with his partner. Although I did good in the class I would never recommend taking chemistry from someone who sets you up for failure. The homework doesn't always teach you the essential things necessary for quizzes and tests and it seems the hope is to have you fail without a specific way to learn from your mistakes
DO CHEM 1200 AT A DIFFERENT SCHOOL AND TRANSFER. Or study AP Chem on Khan and ask the department to skip this class. He will calculate significant figures one way in the textbook, a different way from that on the quiz, and a different way again on the exam. He makes Chem harder than it needs to be. Heed this warning or you will learn the hard way.
This class was NOT IT. The program that they use for the textbook/homework is slow and really hard to learn from. There's a quiz every week, along with 4 exams. The exams are online proctored and are honestly meant to confuse you. Lots of questions that require calculations, and it's all just really confusing. Don't take this class!!!!!
I really liked Dr. Lippert. I think he is a caring teacher and makes sure everyone knows what his office hours are and encourages students to seek help from him outside of class. Chemistry is not an easy subject and I feel like Dr. Lippert makes this class as straightforward as he can. Work as hard as you can and you'll pass!
Like the other ratings, this class was more difficult than the average entry level courses. Both professors were horrid, unkind, and not understanding with personal matters. To spare you the headache, I don't recommend!
Sits infront of a screen all class, reading from pre planned notes where all he does is laser point to topics. Soends five minuts on one, entire section and moves on. Purposefully doesnt teach dimensional analysis well. You take his class you better get a tutor. Office hours are limited to a hour after class, hard to get a appointment. Avoid it.
Dr. Lippert does make lectures somewhat interesting, but overall I felt like concepts weren't always explained very well. He moves on to new concepts quickly, rarely reviewing before tests. It's hard to know what you need to improve on as quizzes close and you can't view them again. He's a good prof, but you definitely have to put in the work.
His topics in lectures are quite succinct and follow for his assignments/exams, though he is quite finical with significant figures. Utilize his office hours, if needed. They are extremely helpful. Labs are also not difficult if you follow the manual. All guides/resources are provided.
AS LAB INSTRUCTOR ONLY. I advise you take the same prof for both 1210 and 1215, but if you need to mix it up like I did, he's serviceable. Can be kinda rude sometimes, kinda funny at others, but mostly just a vehicle to help you get through lab. I literally left 2 hours early on the last lab and filled out less than half the paper and got 100%.
Fun instructor.
I took CHEM 1200 with Doctor Lippert and thought he did a great job of teaching this class. Attendance wasn't necessarily mandatory, but missing a lecture was painful as the lectures are valuable. He has a great sense of humor, and made an early morning class quite energetic. I absolutely recommend taking this class before Chem 1210.
He is very good for 1200 he moves a little to fast, but the notes are posted to canvas. Tophat is pretty good honestly. Test 3 is probably the hardest one, you will need some decent math skills as a lot of the tests are math heavy. Lippert is a really funny guy and keeps lectures entertaining. Quizzes prepare you well for exams
While Professor Lippert was very likeable, the material in this class I felt was very poorly covered. I'd take notes, and study for hours before exams just to get exam questions that I was completely unfamiliar with. The exam averages were always in the 60's or 70's. I'd try and avoid this class if you could.
Dr. Lippert was an awesome lab professor! He gives good feedback, and helps make sense of the terrible written lab instructions. As long as you show up and give it your all, even if you suck at chemistry, you will get an A. If I had to do chemistry again, I'd take it from him!
