Dr. Woods is hands down one of my favorite professors at Howard. He does tend to get off topic, but his lectures are always about what is being discussed in the black communities today. Dr. Wood's class enables students to learn a lot about African American culture both in history as well as today. He also challenges your perspective of society's gender roles and how white Europeans invaded Africa to steal their land, people and resources. Everyone should take Dr. Woods before they graduate from Howard. He is a fantastic professor who makes sure what you are learning is valuable and can be applied in real life. Attendance is important and the class is essay heavy. Be prepared to read because he knows all about the finese. Most importantly, if you do your work you will receive an "A".

People say that Dr. Woods is easy. This is not true. People took advantage of his generosity (allowing late assignments, pushing the dates of assignments back, EC) and they did this to the point where I think he just got fed up with people expecting him to always hold their hand. Just hand in your work on time, study for the exams, and be nice.

Take him. Read the rest of the review if you like. I would describe him as unreasonably reasonable (He pushes deadlines a lot). Come to class, do the assignments well and on time and participate in class and you will get an A. Also just chat with him after class on a weekly basis to ensure that he knows your name. It will help in the end.

Dr. Woods is probably the first teacher to have me leave the classroom and think about the lesson all day and to actually apply the lesson plan to my daily actions. He challenges you to push the boundaries of your oppressed mind and to explore a world where you were once kings and queens and not passengers on a crowded ship on the way to slavery.

Dr. Woods is a very understanding professor. He gives you many opportunities to make up work. He also is very flexible with test if you miss the original date. He also has interesting lectures.

Far to often people come to this university wanting life changing revelations that if not thoroughly sought out are far and few in between. I honestly believe Dr. Woods delivers those revelations. The content of the course alone demands deep internal reflection and self exploration.

If you have the chance to select Woods for Intro to Afro Studies, do not hesitate. Course is relatively simple, except for the midterm which was actually kinda hard. There are 5 papers that have to be written and a Book Review, but do them and you have no reason not to do well in the course. Great teacher tho. He really knows his stuff.

As an engineering student, we don't get the opportunity to take a lot of classes outside of our engineering class. His class reminded me why it was important for myself and others to attain our degrees.

I had Dr. Woods for intro to African American studies. The class is great and that is all there is to it. Dr. Woods is clearly well knowledgable about the subject and anything black to be serious. He is also a genuine guy and down to earth about his background and rise to his current success. The class is taught extremely well and you will learn.

Attend class and do the homework! It shouldn't be too much work, but if you do procrastinate it will cost you your grade. He is very lenient but do not test his patience.

Dr. Woods is a remarkable professor. As an international student and Freshman at Howard, completely obsolete of the African American Community, he introduced me to the diversity of the African American community and explained me who African American individuals really are. He thoroughly explained the hardships and struggle of African people.

He opened up my mind to the contemporary issues in the Black community because he was not afraid to deviate from the material as necessary. Attendance is mandatory and though it may be a lot of work, you learn so much and he makes it interesting. Due dates are flexible so there is no reason not to do the assignments. At the beginning of the school year I wasn't quite sure if I should take Dr. Woods or Dr. Carr for Afro-American Studies. Now, I am glad I chose Dr. Woods. This is a really fun class, there isn't a day where he doesn't have the class rolling in laughter. The class is fun but you have to do your work if you don't do it you won't pass. This is probably one of the most practical classes at Howard because you learn a lot of life skills. Warning: he gets off-topic really easily but it's interesting.

He said this was his last semester teaching at Howard, but I still wanted to rate him anyway. He's a really cool professor. He puts all the work due for the semester on Bb, so coming to class isn't really necessary because he just talks about stuff, but it's interesting stuff. But you should still go so he knows your face or name, he's big on that.
