You have to follow what he says very carefully and do your own research outside of class in order to keep up in the course. He is very current in what he teaches so you will learn A LOT!
Brutal assignments (I felt like crying out), hes no help outside of class, however for the better he scaled the sh*t out of the grades. But I think that was the last of his scaling days...
He doesn't know how to teach, period.
THIS PROF IS HORRIBLE!!!!! do NOT take him (well..unless u want to regret). his slides are from wiki...HOW USEFUL IS THAT?!
He's from Ukraine and as such, has a really thick accent, so it's hard to understand his speeches. He only uses his .pdf notes and reads them out word for word in lectures, and gives out homework from the textbooks. He's boring as hell and doesn't offer any answers for questions during his office hours. (only on monday) AVOID HIM AT ALL COST!
very tough course and he doesn't explain things all that well. he does scale though.
He has an accent, but he's understandable. The course is easy overall, and his notes are all you need to get a good mark in this course. His notes aren't from wiki, and for his assignments you just need the stuff from notes. I swear I just opened the book once, and then I got I didn't really need to. Take the course with him, and get a good mark!
It's much much harder than another pro in surrey. He does not use the textbook at all, so if you don't get it in lecture, then you don't get it at all. The homework on the textbook is useless, since the terminology taught in class is different from the textbook. The exam 70% is theory question. He is fair for marking. Tutorial is important.
Great prof. Has a good sense of humour. MACM is supposed to be somewhat confusing for people who take it for the first time. But he communicates the material to the students well. He's also very patient during his office hours. Confusing, difficult course, but great prof.
One of my favourite profs ever. His lectures are clear, well-organized, interesting, & humourous. Exams are fair. He's very accessible, and treats students w/respect and consideration. Plus, he does it all in a supacool accent. Just print the notes (NOT from Wiki), show up to class, and listen to the man, and you'll learn almost effortlessly.
One of the easiest courses I've ever taken (specially with him). All you need to do to get an A is read his notes. The final exam was very easy, much easier than his midterms which weren't hard at all. My advice: Take it with him.
This was the toughest course I've ever taken. The first couple homework assignments gave me nightmares to the point that I did not enjoy studying the content at all. Nevertheless, I spent hours preparing the what I assumed to be a doomsday of an exam, however to my surprise, I nearly aced it. Credit must go to his very helpful office hours.
The best prof I ever have!!! I took his MACM 101. You don't have to buy the textbook, just use his notes. His notes are clear, well-organized,and easy to understand. Exams are fair.Go to his office if you have any quesions,he's very helpful and nice!(And he remembers everyone who goes to his office!)He remembers my name!!
Grades spiked up when I stopped going to lecture, stopped learning how to use the theorems, and just memorized his slides instead.
An awesome prof. His notes are very clear and organized, and he teaches very well. His exams and marking are fair. His assignments can be a little challenging, but he is extremely helpful in his office hours. As long as you pay attention in his lectures, and go to his office hours, you'll do well.
boring class
One if the best prof's I've ever had! 307 is famous for being very hard, but I can swear no one else can make it easier than him. Still the content is rough but it's the best deal you can get!
Awesome prof! His accent makes him so funny and cute! :) I miss his class a lot. Midterms are fair, final is a little bit harder, but still manageable. Recommend.
Best Prof for MACM 101! His powerpoints are more helpful than the (Grimaldi) textbook, when you go to his office hour for help, he will be extremely helpful! Has a cool accent, sometimes funny during lecture. MACM is a hard course, I recommend you take it with him.
He doesn't know how to teach at all, no one in the class understands what he is talking about. There are 48 students in the class total, 11 of them failed the classes and 15 being C-, you do the math.I got more from the book than listening to him.he only know the surface of cryptography because it is not his field.Avoid him!!
AVOID! Nice guy, but lecture material and textbook reading did not prepare us for the assignments, quizzes, and final exam. Assignments, quizzes and exams were very difficult. Very difficult class that could have been made easier than it was.
tutorails assignments are very helpful. exams are fair and if you do the hw and tutorials, and review a bit, you should do well. lectures are interesting, clear, concise, and informative.
Nice guy! Pay attention to his classes, go to tutorials, and do the assignments and you'll fly through his class. His slides are very very helpful. Stay ontop of it! MACM is hard, but Bulatov teaches it superbly
The way he teaches is way too unclear. Office hour is useless. Last time when I went to his office hour and ask a question which I don't get, he tried no effort explaining to me but pointing at the door way and say "you are wasting my time here!" Seriously, Russian prof is just too self-centered. Never take his class ever again.
The man actually tries to teach. People criticize him for unclarity. Cut him some slack, the guy is not an English prof. For an elementary course, he does a great job and I respect that. If you don't understand, attend tutorials and ASK QUESTIONS. Don't sit there like other people and stare at the board. You'll be fine.
Not a good instructor...so stubborn.
At times, it may be hard to understand him, but if you really listened, he explained things wonderfully. There were 5 assignments of fair difficulty worth 5% each, two midterms at 15 each, tutorial attendance for 10 and the rest in the final. Doing these assignments are very useful. Suggest reviewing notes on a daily basis. Regardless, great prof!
Awsome guy! I really enjoyed the class, but be prepared to work hard. Due to the vastness of this field it is so hard to cover all the topics, but this prof has done a good job trying to cover manythings. If you are taking this course be prepared to work hard , and for sure you would have a fun ride
Great professor. He is very clear if you manage to understand his accent; he is also a bit funny. His assignments are hellish hard, but his quizzes are very easy; his final was very straight forward.
Explained well enough in class. Though, he is extremely condescending to any question posted. He'll act really impatient and generally makes you feel stupid / unwelcome and wasting his time. No cheat sheet during exams, but TA marks them leniently. Do listen when he says he'll fail 1/3 of class.
bad teacher, not helpful.
Typical 90's professor, office hour not helpful at all
never teaches, learn all from textbook
Talks quickly, lectures are unclear and confusing. Not recommended to take macm with him
Boring classes, not good at explaining stuff. Assignments are fair, midterms quite hard. Useless office hours.
Very dry monotonous lectures. Doesn't help that the material is difficult at times. However he was very helpful during office hours.
definitely a decent teacher for MACM- explains well during his lectures although his voice is a bit monotone. He does have a sense of humour that cancels a bit of the monotony. Be sure to attend all lectures, because it's all relevant to the final. Textbook is useless though, don't buy it and use online references and/or his own slides instead
Posts extremely concise and organized slides online. The textbook is unnecessary for the course (he will say so), and is only used for extra practice and review (You don't even need it to get a B). Explains concepts very precisely and clearly, although his accent can be problematic. Lecture attendence is a must
Really nice guy and clear lecturing.
His assignments are easy. Midterms are medium. Study for the final.
Strong accent basically just read from his slideshows which he later posted online, mostly taught myself the course work via the online slides. assignments not too challenging, but some concepts can be a little unclear. Pretty helpful during office hours. Study for the exams and you'll do pretty well
Strong accent but really good lecture slides that explained everything well. Assignments were reasonable. Mid-terms weren't too bad but the final was quite a bit tougher. Had a really bad TA that made everything seem harder than it actually was. Studied quite a bit for tests and managed to get an A.
Very good professor. Dr. Bulatov was very good at explaining the material. If you attend the lectures and read his notes, you are guaranteed to do well on the quizzes. The homeworks, however, were hard, but still fair overall. The final was fairly easy. This course gave me a lot of insight and I learned many interesting things.
Pros: Makes an extremely difficult course enjoyable and somewhat easier. Friendly and helpful; is welcoming during office hours. Does his best to help you understand even the most complex material. Also, he marks like a freaking superhero - 200+ exams in a matter of hours. Cons: None.
Material is difficult but is somewhat alleviated by clear lecturing and effective powerpoint slides. Assignments and midterms are fairly easy. Be weary about the final. Never asked him for help personally but he is definitely someone who would make time for you. He does his job well.
One thing i respect about this prof is he marks the assignments and tests like a champ. He goes through 200+ tests/assignments in one day. One thing about this course is it is very new, tough, and daunting . However, Dr. Bulatov is a great teacher and i loved his sense of humour. Great lectures and slides. His accent gets in the way sometimes.
He reads the lecture slides in the class which he successfully memorized in last few years. There are several mistakes in the slides which he never bothered to change ever. I found out the same slides with same mistakes he used back in 2009 (searched over online).
He gives tough assignments and exams but nothing you won't expect. Slacking off in this class isn't an option and it is a good idea to go to lectures (even if he does provide slides online). He is approachable and he gives good lectures. Don't be afraid if you have him for first year, hard work gets rewarded. Textbook can be found online.
Lectures are long and tough, but if you understand his materials, midterms and final would be super easy. The quickest way to get an A is to memorize all his slides before final.
Funny during lectures and marks exams very fairly (partial marks if you show clear work). Interesting course overall.
He's hilarious and actually cares about his students (even if he tells you otherwise) and the material he's teaching.
His tests were all based off his slides. I passed by memorizing all his slides two nights before the final.
He's an excellent prof, he cares about students, patient, kind... his 405 is hard in assignment but extremely easy on tests. Ez A+
Midterms and Final based on slides only, very fair marking but very hard coursecoc
Boring
Most first year CS students are scared of this course. TBH you don't really have to attend most lectures since Bulatov posts them up on his course page anyways, but sometimes he will throw in a walkthrough of a few example questions which don't show up in the slides. However, if you can do the homework questions and review often, you're fine.
He spends little time explaining the basics of the material and uses a lot of confusing metaphors. He quickly moves on to the more advance stuff that isn't ever really tested and the course seems harder than it actually is as a result. Just understand the basics and memorize the theory and you'll do fine.
Great man, great accent :D Not really reliant on the textbook, but in hindsight, I would've done a lot better if I actually tried most of the practice questions he assigned at the end of each lecture (they weren't for marks). Despite all the hate for this course, I found it really interesting and it inspired me to learn more math, honestly.
The course had some algorithms that were already taught in undergrad. Bulatov is a good Prof. His lectures are really interesting, he was friendly and funny. Quizzes are really heavy worth 50% and he expects you to finish it in 20 mins. Final was a bit tough. 5 tough Assignments are worth just 15% only! Just memorize his slides you 'll pass.
He's aight. Lectures aren't super helpful as he pretty much just reads off his slides. Don't buy the textbook: everything is based off his slides. More theory than application. Assignments are pretty difficult. MEMORIZE HIS SLIDES!!! Half of the final was just restating proofs / definitions that were in his slides word-for-word.
Andrei is really non-helpful prof. His slides is helpful, but too many stuff need remember, and you have to memorize everything. He only care about Final exam. Really bad professor. The worst prof ever.
pro: nice and quality lecture, explains difficult content with fine and Interesting way, knows his stuff, recommended if you want to learn the course material and not just for credit con: slight accent, takes a bit to get used to. talks relatively fast in the lectures. assignments are very hard, be sure to start early(for real).
Great prof that knows his material and cares about student learning and understanding! Thanks for a great term, Dr. Bulatov!
He tested the Fermat Little Theorem in the final!!!! I cried. Just kidding. Prof. Bulatov is a really nice instructor. You can see his enthusiasm for teaching. He is a really nice guy. Some tips for the MACM101: Bulatov teaches every Fall semester and he focuses on theories a lot. Be sure to remember and understand everything on the slide.
Andrei is nice and caring. His lectures are good and he is funny at times. But he focuses on the useless parts of the courses and lets us learn the important things by ourselves. Everyone started memorizing slides just so we could be able to solve the random theorems he throws in all his exams.
Dr. Bulatov is a really nice and humorous guy. I love learning with him. MACM101 is quite simple as we do not go deeper in any topics (although we learned a lot of topics like logic, set, relation, combinatorics, prime...). Be sure to understand each topic and do not fall behind, because they are connected. You will be fine.
Course is not easy but he explains stuff well. If you attend his classes and listen diligently, textbook/ external resources are unnecessary. Midterms were easy. Final a bit tough. There was no curve. A+was 95+. So work hard. His exams are not easy enough that you can breeze through with last minute studying. You have to understand the concepts
Assignments are a lot harder than the tests but he gives a fair amount of time to do them.
CMPT 404 with Andrei Bulatov is a breeze. One of the few courses in the upper division of CS major that I would call a GPA booster. Andrei has this young energy about him that really brings the normally quiet class together creating lasting friendships. His grading scale was quite clear and getting roughly 85% translated to A+
Does not answer clearly if you go and ask questions to him. Our class went through an entire algorithms course without ever writing a single line of code. Theoretical and keeps passing snide remarks about engineers in the class. The slides he uses are riddled with inaccuracies and blunders. The quizzes he sets are straight from his slides. Avoid.
Andrei explains details quite well for the most part; however, the 2 times I didn't understand a concept he wasn't helpful at all. I asked him if he could explain something to me and he provided barely any explanation and did not seem to care at all to help. Other than that his lecture are organized and assignments and tests are fair. MACM 101 easy
Professor Bulatov is a decent prof, but I wasn't happy about his online final. When I tried to upload my answers, I got an unknown system error. I tried to explain what happened, but he told me there was nothing I can do. He didn't even provide some explanation. If you have him, don't expect any sympathy for upload issues.
Homework assignments and quizzes account for 70% of your grade. It's a fairly easy way to pass off of just that. Final exam is based off of homework/quizzes. Review concepts, take extra time to practice, and refer to TrevTutor/Kimb Brehm on YT. Do this and you'll do well. Just be aware that the answer key for the homework assignments can be wrong
The homework is EXTREMELY difficult, so START EARLY and GO to tutorials. Topics can be difficult to wrap your head around, so get ready to grind. Do NOT fall behind, it is hard to play catch up when many topics requires understanding of the previous ones (logic -> sets -> relations -> functions -> recursion ETC). Overall, exams are fair. Good luck.
For MACM 101, all lectures were recorded and were super boring/hard to get through. Study the slides and tutorial homework. The lectures basically say what is written on the slides. The homework is way harder than the actual test and quizzes. So if you are good with the tutorial and sample quiz, you should be fine on tests/quizzes.
Didn't really have to use the textbook unless you wanted to. Bulatov explains the topic very well if you meet him in an office hour. Otherwise, the lectures are very bland. If you spend time and understand the concepts, you'll have a much easier time.
I took a 404 with him because I saw a rating here said it would be easy. Well lemme tell you that is not true. The course is definitely not easy and it is pretty time consuming. However on the other hand they tend to mark leniently. He is very knowledgeable about cryptography, he is very helpful in his office hours. one of my best cmpt classes.
Horrible time management. Doesnt care much about the class. Heavy accent. Be ready to do alot of self learning. There r 15 mins YouTube video that taught the lectures better than Andrei's 70 mins video. Hws are VERY difficult. U will need external sources for help. He made it VERY clear about his expectations, & that ur problems r urs only, not his
Lots of homework. He doesnt do much. Reused his previous recordings. Quizzes were fair. Grading was harsh. Overall this course is dependant on learning yourself if you take bulatov.
His lectures are basically useless as he reads off the slides. I watched YouTube videos to learn the concepts. The TAs and the prof are not accessible at all. He doesn't even answer the emails!! TAs refuse to give you feedback on their grading. Basically, get ready to teach yourself or you'll fail in his class.
Weekly assignments are very hard but you really learn the material by completing them. He's a good lecturer but some proofs are hard to understand. Quizzes have been really easy. He definitely knows the course content really well. I feel like first years may not appreciate him but he's really just your standard pretty good university prof.
Blood, sweat and tears clawing my way through this class. Homeworks are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, but they help you understand the content. quizzes way less theory based than exams. Midterm was easy, final was tough. Understand EVERYTHING on slides, and youll do fine. Study tutorials/slides for exams, txtbk questions not necessary to do well on exams.
Really tough homework and quizzes, was dreading the final exam but it actually wasn't too bad.
Make sure you understand the theory well and the theorems as the midterm and finals can become theory-heavy. Bulatov is a good professor and fair but this is a difficult course so you will need to invest a lot of time through outside sources to understand the concepts. The midterms were easier than the homework while the final was a little harder.
Andrei is a great professor. He tends to make jokes too while in class which keeps me interested. MACM101 was an incredibly difficult course, after tutorials I would talk to my TA for ~1-2 hours just trying to understand the material alone. Understand the material, because some of the things build on top of each other.
Hes cool
I took MACM 101 in Fall 2022 with him, and he wasn't a bad prof. Just make sure you don't fall asleep in class like me since if you pay attention you'll be able to understand the material well. The homework was really hard but helped me prep for exams. The TA's gave part marks to basically any bs that I wrote on exams too so write anything you can.
His lectures lack practical value, as they consist primarily of reading from the slides. Unfortunately, both the professor and the teaching assistants (TAs) were highly inaccessible. Despite sending emails, receiving responses from the professor was a rarity. Additionally, the TAs were uncooperative in providing feedback on their grading.
The instructional efficacy of the lectures is suboptimal, as the lecturer primarily relies on reading directly from the slides, rendering them essentially unproductive. Regrettably, both the professor and teaching assistants display a notable lack of accessibility, failing to respond adequately to emails. Avoid.
He just reads the slides and there is an absence of intellectual depth or elucidation in the instructional delivery. It has been noted that the lecturer occasionally resorts to attributing responsibility to the students for any requisite exertion of intellectual rigor, thereby evading a commitment to even the most minimal levels of endeavor.
Considerable homework assignments are assigned, while the instructor's direct involvement in the course appears limited. The quizzes administered are generally equitable, yet the grading standards maintain a stringent disposition. It is essential to underscore that success in this course largely hinges on self-directed learning.
Best professor, I do not understand why he teaches at SFU as he is easily the nicest professor I know. Cracks lots of jokes make macm fun :)
Andrei is a good professor, and the course material is just very hard as it's a different style than traditional math, so expect to put lots of time into the course and have lots of frustrating moments. Nonetheless, with work put in it is doable to understand the material. His lectures are great and he cracks a couple of jokes during them.
This class is super easy and straight forward. I didn't take anything related to this stuff before and is managing to score high on his exams and assignments. Everything is common knowledge and easy to understand in MACM.
This course was the most easiest course I have taken. Ez GPA booster. Didnt even go to a single lecture and aced all my exams. Every exam is based of common sense. Had no issues finishing the homeworks in time and had time to finish off all my incredibly difficult business assignments. Easiest elective out there. No prior knowledge required.
He simple reads the slides in his class. Will learn nothing with his class.
Honestly lectures were useless and his slides are okay at best. I'd avoid taking macm 101 with him if it's your first time taking the course.
I enjoyed Andrei's class, he is funny, lectures were decent. I do wish there was more step-by-step examples. You will sometimes need to piece together information to understand topics, its the nature of this course. Surefire way to success is to practice lots of problems (even the optional ones) and ask for clarification.
hes a really chill guy but his assignments were very time consuming
MACM 101 is for most pretty difficult (around 30% fail rate). I found that with enough practice and dedication, it isn't actually too bad and can be fun at times (some will disagree). Regarding Andrei, he's a good, informative lecturer (though hard to understand due to accent sometimes), and cracks a few jokes. Homework is hard but REALLY useful.
Andrei Bulatov was a great professor. His lectures were funny and engaging, and he explained most concepts fairly well. His homework assignments are quite challenging but I found them helpful for exam prep. Midterms and finals were fair. MACM 101 is hard if you do not put in the work. Try to study every day to understand concepts. Good luck.
Good prof. is funny. The weekly assignments can take a while and some of the questions are pretty hard so make sure you work early on them. Make sure you revise lectures and understand theorems, definitions, and proofs. On midterms, some questions were conceptual and asked to state a definition or theorem. Only on final asked to prove theorems.
This course is very hard taking bulatov should help ease the difficulty since everything he tests you on is in the lectures. The weekly homework is very hard and time consuming but is good material for studying. Bulatov gives enthusiastic lectures but the slides can be sometimes hard to understand so be prepared to reread them alot. overall not bad
He is very engaging and tries to maintain a light mood. However, the course itself is challenging. I missed a B+ just because I messed up my mid-term. The first mid-term consists of pure math, the second mid-term consists of definitions and diagrams, and the final consists of proofs. # DO NOT FALL BEHIND IN CLASS LECTURES
Andrei is a funny, knowledgeable prof. He teaches what is necessary and makes it clear what's going to be on tests. It's just that the material itself is difficult to grasp. Make sure to stay on top of it. There is weekly hw, but I recommend doing more than that if you can. If you fail any of the tests then you are not allowed to pass.
MACM101 is a tough course, but passable. Bulatov tends to mumble, and he has a thick accent so sometimes it was hard to understand him. The lecture slides were very boring to me. My advice: - review every week - do 2 homework questions/day -study HARD for the midterms/final, it pays off. You don't want to have to take this twice, so work hard
The lectures are pretty good, but MACM101 is a REALLY difficult course. Falling behind is a big danger and if that happens you HAVE to catch up quick. The concepts are explained well, but the material is very difficult. Be prepared to throw everything you've got at this course, you'll need it. Also, you must pass the final to pass the course.
Concepts are hard. You need to pay attention in class but lectures get boring. Weekly homework is hard and time-consuming so start it early. The final is overwhelming as we must pass to pass the course. Study hard for the midterms and final exams because you don't wanna redo this course. I relied on YouTube and studying alone to pass the course.
I found this course to be quite difficult but luckily Andrei was a good prof. He had extensive knowledge of the content and he was funny at times. He was also very professional and organized.
Andrei is an amazing teacher and makes lectures super fun. But MACM is a tough course so I recommend solving the homework questions recommended as well as turtorial questions. The tests are based on memorization of slides and theorems so study from slides. Overall, Andrei is super kind and helpful.
Andrei is very straight forward with his expectations of students in this class, showing on the first day how over 40%+ of students failed the previous two semesters. You won't be able to coast through this class like you may have previously. Study regularly, do practice problems, get the homework done asap, and make use of office hours.
He explained some parts very well and some parts not too well. It's a tough course though so fair enough.
This class was pretty difficult. The weekly homework took hours to complete, but they helped people do better on the midterms and final because exams were much easier. I would highly suggest watching a few Youtube videos to get the gist of the lecture topics before class. Also note that he has an accent, but it doesn't affect his teaching too much.
This is a hard course and many people fail and one of the reasons is because you have to pass the final to pass the entire class. People who don't fail usually get around a B- to B+. If you know how to do the homework then the exams should be okay because the homework is way harder. Make sure to attend tutorials and do not fall behind!
MACM 101 is a hard course to begin with. Andrei reads off slides like many other professors, has weekly assignments that are really hard but you do have time to finish it. The tutorials are pretty useless, I think I've fallen asleep in like 5 tutorials and you don't really need to do any tutorial questions, it never helped me.
He's nice and seems knowledgeable about the matter, BUT I don't think what he had taught in class really prepares us for the deliverables. The proofs gave are insufficient and are nowhere close to the ones in the suggested textbooks which are very hard to understand and deserve going through over & over in class. Take only if you have time to kill.
Macm101 is an easy class if you stay on top of everything. I personally slept through every lecture and still got an A-. There are plenty of resources online if you cannot understand his accent, like me. Just watch Kimberly and TrevTutor!
Homework was always difficult but marking was very lenient. Good teacher and was usually quite engaging. Bit of an accent but still very understandable. Midterms were fair but the final was 30% just memorization of proofs and theorems, otherwise it was also very fair.
While I found the lectures to be less than effective, the slides provided some useful information. However, I would caution students taking MacM 101 for the first time to consider alternative instructors, as the teaching style and materials may not be suitable for all learners
The laziest lecturer at SFU.
Andrei is an overall pretty good professor, but very tough. His tests are very difficult so come prepared to work for your grade. Also, at least in my class he did not curve. Keep that in mind.
Antiquated teaching methods and it shows. Better to listen to old, classical songs on the radio than his life draining monologue. He should quit and retire.
Do not slip up, this is a hard class and prof is mehh, keep up with the content.
This was a pretty good class. Midterms were definition-heavy while homeworks required a lot of critical thinking and were very theory-heavy. Final was a mix of both and resulted in a class experience that was fair and enjoyable. Didn't attend a single lecture as I didn't find them particularly useful, reading the slides is sufficient.
he is so kind
"fahntahstic"
As someone else said, "fahntahstic." I see a lot of bad reviews of Dr. Bulatov for being lazy or weak in his lectures, but this isn't accurate. To me, a lot of people are complaining about him just because they got bad MACM grades. Exams are very definition heavy, but he's made interesting with an accent that is entertaining and barely confusing.
Overall experience was ok, for final just memorize every single proof on the slides even if u don't understand it. Midterms and final were as expected
Ah yes, good ol Bulatov. Had him in fall 2023, my first semester at SFU. He was tough, definitely entertaining in lecture, exams were decently fair, but his homeworks were something I'll tell you. I'd recommend him if you want a memorable experience (take that as you will)
The professor was pretty decent in lectures, though sometimes a bit hard to follow. Overall, the course was okay and manageable.
Clearly not interested in what he does. Reads slides without slightest interest in the course materials. Course materials are often mistake ridden.
It's hard to get a good grade from his lecture.
Overall decent. Like others said, he sort of just goes off the slides. After the first couple of weeks the content gets harder, and understanding the lectures gets that much tougher. The notes sometimes have mistakes as well which creates more confusion. He also has an accent that makes some sentences hard to understand.
He is engaging in lecture. There are surprise quizzes, so you have to keep up with the material (most people did not keep up with the material, so the medians were often 60%). Most of the homework is doable but a few questions are very difficult to figure out.
Andrei is a solid prof, difficult accent to sometimes, but overall good
Tough grader, many surprise quizzes, content slides are bit convoluted
Really great prof; enjoyed lectures a lot. Homework was much more difficult than the tests or quizzes, so if you understand the homework, you'll be fine. Pop quizzes every couple weeks, so try to keep up; he moves quickly through the material and is religious about his slides, but they're pretty good.
Very good professor, but a VERY difficult class. Weekly homeworks take hours. Tutorials aren't very helpful, but attendance counts towards your grade. Midterms and final are fair (you must pass the final to pass the class); if you can do the homeworks, you'll be fine. Expect pop quizzes. Keep up with the slides and DON'T fall behind.
Beautiful prof, even though course was pretty hard, still it's very likely to get a good grade if you js study.
