He is a funny professor, but he has a very thick accent which made it a little harder for me to understand him. His tests are based on the power points, which are really long. There is a lot of terminology that he just throws out there and tells you to memorize it for the test. The material is really heavy and he does not make it less difficult
Professor Nesterovitch is funny, he does have a thick accent so if you have issues understanding accents then be mindful His lectures the full time and does labs as a group. His power points for 1408 were some of the best powerpoints I've seen, clearly marked and important information highlighted. overall would recommend, but you have to attend.
If you like to sit in class and listen to him speak about Biology for nearly 2 hours, then this class is for you. His lectures are heavy and you have to work for your grade. The tests are kind of tough, so you will have to study for those as well. However, he gives hint reviews for those. So, as long as you listen to those and put in work, it is ok
Professor Nesterovich makes Biology II simple. The reviews he gives are nearly identical to the tests. The labs/ lab work are almost always able to be completed and submitted as a group. There is no homework, so aside from the normal studying, it's a breeze. His powerpoint's contain all the test material and is always willing to help you if you ask
Dr. Nesterovitch cares about his students in his own funny way. He offers extra credit opportunities and provides a hint review before each test that he lets you voice record (SUPER helpful) 4 lecture tests (60Q), 1 lab exam, lab notebook, a presentation and a final. Not a demanding class and he is willing to help you out if you put in the effort
Professor Nesterovitch is a very smart man and sometimes I feel like plain old BIOL is too simple for him. He does his lectures with PowerPoints but there are many slides and so much information. I often would just go through the slides on my own time since he would go through them quite fast. He is very caring for his students and jokes around.
This class was fairly easy. There are 4 tests during semester, reviews are very helpful, the final includes same questions from those 4 tests + 10 additional from last two chapters. Lectures were interesting
Dr. Nesterovitch is a genuinely caring man, well intentioned and very knowledgeable. However, he is somewhat sporadic and extremely lecture heavy. I mean I've taken classes very dependant on lectures but this was to an extent I wouldnt have thought possible. He generally condescends students, and wont take your statements at face value. he ight.
Taken during the Spring 2020 semester. He was okay during the first half of the semester. Sometimes hard to understand during lecture. Not technologically savvy. Will spend half the class telling stories. During the COVID-19 pandemic & switch to fully online classes, he waited until the last week to dump a half-semesters worth of work on us.
I took his online class you can tell that he is still figuring out how everything works but thats fine. during his zoom meetings I am usually on my phone because it does not really matter if you listen or not. All of the questions are on quizlet same with his assignments. You will have to do one presitation which was also very easy.
Yes, Dr. Nesterovitch has a heavy accent and at times is hard to understand, however, that heavy accent makes you listen more. I think he was an awesome professor. He is a tough grader who is very particular about the smallest details. I would definitely take him again if I could.
He's not so bad of a person as it sounds but he can be complicated to communicate with at times. He's very repugnant with answering questions from his students. And his grading process is so difficult. But, due to covid the class was set up as Bimodal with lectures online and Labs face-to-face. So the class was flexible at times.
Do not take his class!! He will give you instructions on an assignment to do it one way then grade you a whole other way. He sucks @ communication & makes very rude comments about other students when not around. save yourself the tears, headache, & frustration!
Professor Nesterovitch has a heavy accent, which makes it hard to understand him. He isn't clear on what he wants us to do for assignments. Lectures range from 40-80 slides. There's 6 exams(4 over lectures, a lab exam, and a final). The lab exam was hard and included things we didn't talk about in class. His study guides aren't helpful at all.
Actual statistics of my class 57% avg test grade (65% of grade) 77% Lab grade (20% of grade) 71% Project grade (15% of grade) Class Avergae 63.1%
If you dont mind 30-70 slides of on your own learning, test reviews 2-3 days before the test, or sometimes unclear instructions, then this is your professor. He does give extra points on lectures or in class questions that you answer correct. Overall hes a cool guy but best to take if you only take 1-2 classes to take that semester.
Worse professor I've ever had. He is unstructured, unorganized and his expectations and instructions are very unclear. His lectures consist of 200+ slides of content. His tests are extremely hard and he wastes class time ranting about how dumb and apathetic his students are. I would recommend taking this professor if you want to destroy your GPA.
Professor Nesterovitch is a good professor. Stay on top of the assignments. Ask for clarification if something is unclear. Put in the effort and you'll do well.
I made an A while most of our test grade averages were in the 40-50% (and lower). On average 50pg fully online lectures and is condescending towards students, would not recommend. Not clear on instructions and ends up grading differently many times. Had to stick up for class a few times over grading. He likes to blame students and not himself
I was expecting Professor Nesterovitch to be tough based on the rates I have seen on here but in reality, he is really cool. I did hybrid so the lectures were online and the lab was in person. He provides audio with the lectures which aren't that long (only has 50 slides or sometimes less) and great videos to watch to better explain the material.
Professor Nesterovitch is an amazing professor. Yes, his presentations have a lot of information and are long (80+ slides per presentation) but he covers everything in his lecture in a way everybody can understand. Going to all his lectures will really help you since he points out what will come in the exam.
Overall his lectures are hard to understand and his labs are simple. But since most of the grades are reliant on his test it might be difficult for those who do poorly on tests. Hard of hearing, and seemingly needs to be told something twice to comprehend. Take time on the test reviews, they do help.
he was overall a genuinely funny/caring guy, but a lot of things made the class stressful. He went over 60+ slides every lecture and the tests were each 60 questions. His slides were good and simple to understand but get ready to study because there is ALOT to go over. There isn't too many assignments but he is a tough and detailed grader.
He is VERY particular, but if you follow instructions to a T, you can do okay. He's pretty funny but also insensitive sometimes. Hint reviews will save your life so use them!!
Nesterovitch is a great person. He's one of the funniest professors I've ever had, but his class is extremely difficult. If you're not on top of everything, you WILL fail. I only passed by the skin of my teeth. I highly suggest doing the extra credit he gives and keep track of your lab notebook. His hint reviews for tests will save your life.
Honestly this class was made so fun for me I completely enjoy it. Unfortunately I did not make the grade I wanted because I didn't pay attention but he makes learning fun. I remember for one assignment he made us go outside and do a nature scavenger hunt and it was so fun. I definitely recommend taking his class and I can say for sure that I will.
For context just transferrred to UT Austin. His class is comparable to a university level course. I found he made his lectures enjoyable. His tests come from the slides lectured in class and most of it is memorization. Keeping up with your lab notebook is key. I read the textbook to have two rounds of exposure of the material. Do this.
His passion for biology is evident in his teaching, and he demonstrates that passion to his students. making himself available to students, he ensures that all students understand what's being taught (ASK QUESTIONS, he'll answer them). He sets a high standard for excellence that is attainable by all. I pray God blesses him abundantly.
Oldest man on the planet. HE CAN AND WILL WASTE YOUR TIME. Lecture and lab is him rambling on about how to use a computer and what he studied in college a million years ago. Reviews are not helpful and lack context so good luck studying for anything. Gave me a zero on an assignment because he does not know how to use google docs. Wish I could drop.
He's very old and doesn't know what he's doing. If you submit a PDF instead of a Word like he asks or vice versa, you'll receive a 0%. His reviews are NOT helpful at all, it's confusing and he rambles on about irrelevant material, or he talks about the same thing multiple times (he once talked about the size of the font for a slide for 2 days).
His class was not difficult, and everything was online. His syllabus demonstrates all the information that is expected. He cares about his students, and he gives honest feedback. The professor always gives out exam reviews to prepare for.
LOTS of lecture. Has reviews but half of the questions are redacted, making those parts useless. 5 exams, one was open-ended, 75 questions. Lots of group assignments + extra credit though. Tends to catch an attitude often... If you have tons of patience then go for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend.
Dr. Nesterovitch is a good guy who loves the material and clearly wants everyone to do well. Unfortunately, English is not his first language and while he is very easy to understand, it can be very difficult to communicate your thoughts to him. Obtuse grading criteria at times, will talk your ear off and can be insensitive.
I absolutely cannot stand this professor. His accent doesn't bother me like it does some students, but what does bother me is the fact that he is extremely condescending toward his students, and takes no responsibility for HIS OWN INSTRUCTIONS BEING UNCLEAR. He is rude, mean, and the only teaching job he should have is what NOT to do as a professor
Professor Nesterovitch's class is challenging, but with dedication and resources like unstuck study, you can succeed. Attend lectures, do the extra credit, and stay organized to master the content.
This class isn't too hard if you can teach yourself from a textbook, slides, and the internet. There's many extra credit opportunities, but most are a race to submit. He's very particular about how he wants things done, but often unspecific in instruction, and he's VERY rude—outright said that he doesn't respect his students. Would NOT recommend.
I'm not the best learner and his class was very difficult for me but when I couldn't take an exam he opened it up for me the next day even though he had no obligation to. If you can do the assignments and make sure to actually watch his videos where he literally gives specific instructions on how to do each one you will succeed. He is not rude
Had his good days and many more bad days. Followed syllabus in the beginning and towards the end did not. Tests follow 50-60 % of lectures and the rest are pulled from random concepts. Difficult to prepare and be successful unless you are a self-learner. Attendance and pronunciation mandatory. Provides ample opportunity to make extra credit.
Dr. Nesterovitch is intelligent and caring. Thoroughly enjoyed his class. Clear & direct instructions on what he wants. Textbook & recorded lectures for your convenience. Challenges you just enough to make the class enjoyable. Gives extra credit as an incentive if you show up on time. Tough Russian character but sweet at heart !
Strict and confusing assignment requirements, so I emailed him after attending WebEx session and reviewing the syllabus. Instead of clarifying, he accused me of not paying attention, argued, and responded with condescending smiley faces. He gave me a bad grade when he could have just tried to help me, Lone Star deserves better than this.
Very lecture heavy, lectures every Monday at 5pm (online course). They are not mandatory but extremely helpful. I did not watch any lectures and got an A. Gives good feedback, replies to emails, clear rubrics. He will work with you if you miss something (quiz, lab) within reason! Overall a good professor, the class is not too easy nor too hard.
Great professor. Took me about 2 weeks to get used to his accent. Listen during lecture b/c he will say which slides will be on the exam. Gives GREAT study guides for exams. He's willing to go out of his way to help students and offers post exam analysis (highly recommend). Offers a lot of extra credit. As he likes to say, "anything for students!"
If you do every assignment to the tee (absolutely no mistakes) you will pass. DON'T email him on outlook only on D2L or he will not respond or get very angry that you didn't email the correct way. Very backhanded responses. Tries to seem like he's being nice by adding a ;) to a message when it was clearly meant in a rude way every time.
Expects students to follow instructions. Pretty easy with grading as long as you put forth effort. WebEx videos every Monday with Lab and Project instructions. Easy going, but does not put up with laziness on assignments. Pay attention and follow instructions and you will be fine. Exams require lockdown browser, but are not proctored. Recommend!
Will tell you something is going to be on the exam, then not put it on the exam. EXTREMELY LECTURE HEAVY. Be prepared to memorize hunreds of slides per exam. He also loves trick questions. Be prepared to go off topic constantly. Only thing that saved my grade was the labs and final. Would rather have had to take bio a diff term than deal with him!!
Y'all don't take this professor , he is very rude and condescending. States that weekly recorded meetings are an option . But they are not . He will post an exam and turn off the notification** I'm assuming that's what he did just to prove a point that. If y'all can help it find another professor best of luck to yall .
Don't let the accent scare you, he will resay anything you don't understand and he is funny. He is a little tough but gives plenty of opportunities to get a great grade. Gives good test reviews! would recommend getting in a good lab/study group in the first day and you will do fine. Would highly recommend!
Extremely hard to understand, has a horrible stutter and foreign accent. You will NOT be able to comprehend. Makes you watch his lecture videos, hides information in them that doesn't match instructions. Very strict, gets mad easily. All tests require a lockdown browser. All labs are due on Saturdays. Don't bother buying the textbook.
Be prepared: this professor grades harshly and seems to believe his way is the only correct way. You can follow every instruction word-for-word and still get marked down with little explanation. It feels like he has a superiority complex that gets in the way of teaching. If you need clear expectations or fair grading, don't take his class
This professor is decent, his instructions for lab are clear sometimes and also sometimes not. He has a thick accent (german) which makes it hard to understand sometimes. His labs/post labs are easy, but there is a lab exam at the end of the semester so make sure you study your past labs (take pics of EVERYTHING.) Study hard for the tests!
