This professor does not go over everything on the exams in lecture. He is not thorough with his explanations and is unwilling to help students. 10/10 would not recommend.
Dr. Nunez really does care about his students, you just need to be willing to ask for help outside of class. Chemistry is hard, and often students blame their professor for things that aren't their fault. Dr. Nunez provides everything you need for the exams, it's just up to you whether you study outside of class to be successful.
He's a good professor, a lot of kids don't like him because they are not willing to put in the work for a good grade.
Dr. Nunez is without a doubt the best chemistry professor that we have here on campus. He gets a lot of hate but that's generally from student's who aren't trying to get the help they need, and instead blame it on the professor. Dr. Nunez provides all of the information that we need to succeed in his class.
Never missed a class, always took and studied notes, and still did not pass. However, from what I've heard about other 105 professors, Dr.A is god-sent. He knows the material very well, and he's really great about explaining things multiple times. If you have to take Chem105, take Nunez.
Nunez is pretty entertaining as far as chemistry professors go. Especially in comparison to the rest of the chemistry department, he's the move for sure. He is a good professor, the reason for bad grades is lack of studying. The material is difficult for sure, but Nunez is a pretty great prof.
Dr. A was an amazing professor. The class material itself is very difficult and exams are very intimidating. However, Dr. A made sure to explain the materials the best he could. He was so interested in what he taught and genuinely wanted us to enjoy chemistry.
He was not good at explaining things. He would explain simple things in the most confusing way so I was more confused by then end than I was to begin with.
For being foreign, he is pretty easy to understand and I think his lectures featured important content. From what I've heard of other chemistry professors at UK, I think he is a safe bet for CHE 105, and if he taught it, I probably would have taken him for 107. Chemistry is a difficult subject so be prepared to study, but I with Dr. A I got an A.
Great guy, has a very thick accent but hes is still very understandable. One of the few lectures I actually enjoy going to, despite the 250+ people class size.
Not a very good professor at all!!!! Yells at is the whole class if nobody answers our questions and calls us dumb! Doesn't explain important things very thoroughly and spends way too much time on simple concepts that ends up confusing you more than when he started. Lectures and notes are laid out very weirdly and doesn't like to help students.
Dr. A is a great professor. He gets a lot of backlash because of how difficult the course is. He is very willing to work with a student after class hours to help them succeed and doesn't rush through information in class. He wants to make sure students understand material. Also, he's funny.
He has a thick accent that makes learning difficult. He only reads off the slides. Take someone else.
Dr Nunez is one of the better chemistry professors I've had. He really takes time during lecture to go over material instead of just flying through it. There is a lot of backlash for how hard this class is. Dr. Nunez is a good option for CHE 107! He is very willing to explain things to students and will work with you in office hours.
He has a thick accent. He only reads off the slides. Take someone else. You might as well stay at home and read the slides.
Nunez is a really nice guy and a great lecturer. I disagree with the complaints about his accent, I think his teaching is clear and organized. Past exam questions are worked out in class. I would recommend trying not to miss class often because the subject can be difficult BUT Nunez does a great job posting lectures online for if you do.
Dr. Nunez is funny and makes a hard class as fun s it can be. At the end of the semester he did a magic trick just for fun. He really tries to make chemistry enjoyable which is pretty hard. I would take him for chem 107 one hundred percent. I probably would have failed this class if I had another professor.
Dr. Nunez is a great guy. His teaching style isn't for everyone and he can sometimes be difficult to understand, but if you try to sit in the front and actually pay attention during lecture you will be fine. This is a difficult course but Dr. Nunez wants all of his students to succeed and is very helpful during office hours.
He is a very funny guy that knows a lot about chemistry. Sometimes his lectures became confusing and hard to sit through but he always tried to make sure everyone knew what was going on. Overall, good professor that is available for his students.
Andres knows a lot about chemistry but just isn't good at explaining it. His attendance is mandatory, even though you get much more out of studying on your own. He has a slight accent but speaks English very well. He's not accessible outside of class and never answers his emails. Tests are the majority of your grade and can be very difficult.
He is not good at explaining things and can be very sarcastic and even rude at times. He doesn't seem to grasp the fact that some people need more time to understand the material. He can be somewhat funny, but I'd rather have a very serious but good professor compared to one that can't seem to teach very well at all.
Nunez is a decent guy but he is very hard to understand in a big lecture setting. He is really smart so I think he has a hard time teaching those that don't get it Chem right away. Towards the end of the semester I started skipping class and teaching myself because I couldn't follow him in class.
Dr. Nunez got frustrated with us for not picking things up easily. He eventually asked for feedback and apologized to us which made things much better. He tried to show he cared about us but he was still very unapproachable and no one wanted to ask him questions. There was little homework and exams were hard. He means well but is intimidating.
Very caring person but hard to understand sometimes.
My rating of Professor Nunez is heavily impacted by the immense homework/work load required outside of class. There is online homework nearly every day and it really adds up if you are also taking other challenging courses. Also. no offense to Professor Nunez, at times it can be very difficult to understand what he is saying due to his accent.
Dr. A is a great professor. He makes lecture fun and cracks a lot of jokes. I could understand where people have trouble understanding his accent, but I didn't have any trouble. CHE 105 is a really hard class, but he tries to help as much as he can. The tests are hard (beware exam 3) but he doesn't make them, the CHE department does.
Dr. Nunez was very helpful in making chemistry easy to understand. He worked out lots of example questions which helped a lot when preparing for tests. Overall, he made class very fun and made a really hard subject a lot easier.
Professor Nunez is probably one of the sweetest professors Ive had so far. Im kind of sad that this school year got cut short, and I only had him for a short amount of time. The course does require a lot of work outside of class, but theyre all doable as long as you pay attention to lectures and watch the playposits. Very considerate with grades!
Dont go to class. You will only learn on exam review days. Ive taken 5 chemistry classes and have received an A in every one but this one. He didnt care about teaching.
you could barely understand him at some points. he tries to do funny things at the beginning of class to show what were learning but it didn't help. good luck trying to receive an email back or canvas message bc he doesn't respond. I changed my major because they made an intro class so hard.
Very bad teaching.
Not bad, reading the textbook helped a lot
You'll be teaching yourself this class. He turned all of his class time into office hours this semester, so there were no lectures. There are always at least five assignments a week that you'll have to teach yourself how to do. The exam reviews barely match the actual exam content. Your book will be your bestie.
This class is terrible. He wasn't very good at explaining things so basically have to teach myself. Tests had questions that were not taught nor were like questions asked on lectures or homework. Basically be prepared to use youtube to help you understand the content because the prerecorded definitely does not help.
Dr. Nunez was a great professor for this class. He put effort into his lecture videos, and explained everything clearly. He was also quick to respond to questions outside of class. This class is very test heavy, so make sure you put in time to watch lectures, take notes, and study!
This professor made me want to drop out of college entirely. If you can avoid taking him then do so, especially while its all online. I had to teach myself via google because he didnt do lectures.
The professor will not email back and doesnt do much preparation for tests and finals. Take advantage of other teachers content that they post on Canvas
Dr. Nunez is a good professor to have for a difficult class. Personally, I thought he was nice and understanding, and if you participate in class, he will be easily accessible to you outside of class. Lectures are helpful, and you should definitely do office hours if you're struggling. Explains very thoroughly.
In all honesty, Dr. Nunez is a decent teacher. He is smart and has some good lectures. After having Dr. Peters previously though, it is hard for anyone to even hold a pin to her teaching abilities. He was good but this is a tough class. It is much harder than CHE 105 is my opinion as well. You will need to focus on this class a lot to do well.
If you have the option to pick a different chem professor, do it! Ive never struggled with science until I had him. He is very smart but teaches extremely fast. You dont learn anything in class, just lecture videos outside of class for homework. He can be a nice person but if youre struggling he will look at you like youre stupid.
He makes all the lectures online then you go to class the next day and do a worksheet. The class goes really fast so its easy to get lost and get caught behind. He isn't a huge help if you ask for help in class, he'll look at you like you're dumb. I would personally choose a different prof.
Dr. Nunez was the hardest professor that I have ever had. It was almost impossible to get a good grade on anything because he does not teach. Graded a lot on playposits which I do not think is fair. The material on the exam is not like it is on the exam prep sheets. Take another professor if you have the option
I had Dr. A for CHE 105 and 107 and really liked him, and this semester I was one of his interns for CHE 109. This man could not be more understanding. He cares about how you're doing in the course and will do anything to help you. The courses are difficult, but I'd gladly recommend him to any new student.
Great proffessor.
The class can be tough if you never took AP Chem, but if you did it is just like the second semester of that. Nunez is a caring professor and is always there to answer questions outside of class. The class is flipped so there is more opportunity to ask questions during the work time than in other classes.
If you want to do nothing but watch someone do chemistry algebra, then by all means take this man. But, if you want to learn the content to pass the course, Id consider someone else. He only knows how to do math and thats all he will do is math, and then maybe with a little extra math, but not even completely show you how to do the math.
I love Dr.A! He works so hard to help you succeed and genuinely cares about each of his students. I attended his office hours and he immediately learned my name and frequently checked in on me. When I missed a class he checked to make sure I was ok. This class is hard but he makes it manageable. Take him if you can!
Dr. Nunez was not a particularly bad professor, he just tends to focus a lot of time and effort on math only. Exams in this class make up the entirety of your grade and are very difficult. Dr. A has no control over the difficulty of the exams, though. Overall, he is a solid professor who could afford to take a few notes from Dr. Woodrum.
Nunez is nothing special. Pretty average professor and the for the most part I understood the content being taught. The most difficult thing I would say about learning from him is just trying to understand what he's saying with his difficult accent. Be prepared to spend multiple hours doing homework for this course. Overall, he's mediocre.
Pros: Worksheets are helpful for studying. Dr. Nunez presents everything needed for the exams, and his video lectures are well made. Cons: Dr. Nunez has no respect for students. He is very condescending. Do not ask him questions, answer questions in class, or go to office hours unless you like being humiliated.
He prefers flipped classroom (watch lectures on your own time, do worksheets in class). He's a little egotistical, but if you really put in the work, you will do fine. For the love of god, use the practice tests!! They're on the UK Chem website. Get used to the style of questions because they are not easy. Not terrible for UKY Chemistry. Solid 5/10
The class is almost entirely weighted by exams, so if you take the class, start preparing for exams almost immediately. The content is not the worst, but the class moves very quickly. Professor Nunez prefers to use lecture outside out class and worksheet within class, so skip homework or cheat and you are not passing.
The class was only difficult because I had never taken chem before. Watching the playposits really helps get through the class. Nunez is also a fun and cool teacher. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.
Take Nunez at ALL costs. He makes the class a bit more engaging with in-class experiments. The playposits are tough but the in-class discussions help understand them.
He is an amazing teacher! While his class is hard because it is Chemistry, he does a good job at trying to make it engaging and his discussions in class really help you understand the play posits. He is very accessible and helps go over things you do not understand after class and during review before each test. Take him for chemistry!!
I dropped out of the class because I didn't take it seriously the first time. But, with what I had saw so far he seemed like a decent professor. The class will mainly be watching videos before the lecture, and the actual "lecture" will be just going over a worksheet. The videos help though. He's an alright professor. A decent pick.
Honestly, if you want to succeed in the UK Chemistry department do not take Nunez. He uses online lectures that are not clear at all. The class time is spent doing worksheets. He does not teach nearly the amount that the other chemistry profs do.
Behind the tough guy persona, Professor Nunez cares about his students and their success. He puts more effort into making sure his students understand the content than most professors I've had for large classroom lectures like this. I would take him over most other options.
Dr. Nunez is a very nice person. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well. However, I was not a fan of his teaching style. Online lecture videos were to be watched before class, sometimes near an hour long. With other classes and homework, this was very time consuming. It reminded me of virtual learning, not a fan of it.
i loved dr. nunez. he ran a flipped classroom so we watched videos outside of class and did worksheets in class. his teaching style was perfect for me and i used in class to practice active recall. i think he is the best che prof!!
Nunez is a really good professor. He teaches through videos you watch on your own time and has you work on problems in class. The videos are pretty in depth and can be sped up to 2x speed. The problems worked on in class are similar to what's on the exams, but there is a bit more of an emphasis on concepts on the exams. He responds to emails quick.
I genuinely enjoyed his playposits(video lectures). At first, I was not a fan of this concept, but Nunez's use of them is done well. The worksheets and answer keys to the problems done in class are posted before every exam and are helpful when studying. These focus heavily on math, so memorization/concept questions must be done on your own time.
He is entertaining but not very helpful when it comes to teaching. Content comes from video lectures and classes are spent going over a worksheet. The actual class feels useless other than he sometimes makes funny jokes. Definitely take advantage of office hours, the GCLC, and The Study. Recitation is somewhat helpful.
Dr. Nunez was a great professor! I recommend doing some extra work outside of the class to succeed like going to office hours, the study, and review sessions. I could have received a better grade in this class if I had gotten help from the beginning. Also don't miss class if possible, graded by attendance and it can help you out in the end.
Dr. Nunez is a good teacher. He teaches with a flipped classroom style, which I liked. It was not difficult to do well in his class if you put effort into taking notes, and paying attention in class. As long as you prepare for the exams, you should do just fine.
I loved the way the class was set up with lecture videos outside of class and then practice problems during the actual lecture time. I felt prepared to do homework and for the exams and he was able to explain some difficult concepts in a way that made it make sense! I really appreciated what he did for the class!
Tough guy persona, but good guy. Big soft teddy bear, you might say. His lectures sometimes aren't the best and he beats around the bush until telling you what you actually need to know, but a great guy. One of the best CHE105 professors so take him
This man is so funny and truly an exception to the standard professor. The course itself is very difficult to grasp but the way his class is set up with reverse lecture style honestly really helped me learn CHE 105 this semester.
I actually hated this class
He is the best. He still tutors me in CHE 107 and even the lab, and he's not even my professor anymore. He doesn't pretend he's "inaccessible" like most chem professors, he goes above and beyond to ensure the success of his students. If you want to pass CHE, pray you have Nunez or Woodrum. If not, I wouldn't even take the course. 10/10 professor.
Dr. A is a great professor that is really good at explaining chemistry and, in his own words, "making students hate chemistry less." He is good at making sure we know exactly the kinds of problems that will be on exams. He is also accessible, friendly, and caring. As far as the workload goes, it will be the same for every section of CHE105.
Dr. Nunez is a great professor, but also seems like a good person in general. He provides clear teaching and is willing to help his students. Not to mention, he's also pretty funny. He always walks through the class to answer questions, instead of just making the interns do everything. He is very involved and overall an excellent instructor.
Great teacher. Very helpful. Quite personal and a little funny. Overall my one of my favorite professors.
He's very funny and makes class fun. Gives good feedback when you have questions. Interns were amazing too. Chemistry isn't easy, but he is a great professor. He really wants the best for his students.
Dr.Nunez makes you watch videos outside of class and then he does a worksheet during class. i found that this was extremely hard to learn from because i felt like i had to teach myself all of the material. i also think that the tests were very different from what we were learning in class,
I absolutely loved having Dr. A for CHE105. His swapped teaching style really helped me remember the content. That being said, if you have no background in chemistry, it is going to be tough. He will absolutely work with you to help you learn, but being a weed-out class you will struggle if you haven't already had chemistry in high school.
He can be very intimating at first but his class is very enjoyable. He uses lots of examples and visual representations which I found helpful. He's a really funny guy too. I would go to office hours for sure
he uses a flipped lecture style that i looooved!! he has a dry sense of humor but wants everyone to succeed. I love him and will miss not having him as a professor!
His lectures are basically pointless unless you need a little help with practice problems. He likes to over explain things from the play posit videos which gets annoying. He also is kind of taunting and if you get something wrong he will force you to figure it out instead of actually helping.
will be retaking
Dr Nunez was one of my favorite professors of all time. He made chemistry fun for someone who struggled in it, which is saying a lot. He comes off as serious, but he is compassionate and very willing to help his students. He teaches using a flipped classroom and does a lot of demos!
Nunez is a difficult individual. He is very stubborn on what he believes is correct, even if you have proof/sources to show he is not. I was in the honors section so the experiments were often extremely difficult but he would give the smallest hints for help. The class is not that bad, but attendance seems pointless
He was a good professor. He helped me understand the material better than my last professor, to be clear have taken this course twice now, I previously had Presnell, and now I had Nunez, as a personal preference Nunez helped me understand clearer. If I had to take the class again I would definitely get Nunez.
The lecture heavy part of this course is online PlayPosit lectures. LOTS of in class practice with worksheets reflecting test questions. Take the practice exams, do the extra worksheets, go to office hours, and you will be just fine. Dr. Nunez is hilarious and loves giving experiment demos with student participation to reinforce concepts.
HW playposits are supposed to follow into the lectures, but Dr. Nunez's videos were so vague and in-descriptive, they didn't help me learn, visualize, or grasp our material. Therefore in lectures, he would passively solve 4/10 problems on a worksheet, and then send you off to complete the rest for attendance (I got a B with the other che professor)
He's just unnecessarily rude and not helpful at all. He'll look over your shoulder and try to rudely make comments about my work instead of helping where the issue is. His videos are very vague and he over complicates a lot.
This class was my worst enemy. Chemistry is hard enough as it is and he just makes it even harder. He is not very helpful in class and will get mad at the class when they do not respond, he will look over your shoulder and makes fun of you/ make you try and feel dumb. The iclicker attendance he does is pointless. Overall not a good time.
I came into college not knowing anything about chemistry, but Dr. Nunez turned that around. He's super funny and I loved his lectures!
Dr. Nunez is a great teacher if you like visuals and detailed explanation. He runs a flipped style classroom which means you will learn most of the material on videos that are posted for you to watch outside of class then go over video material deeper during lecture. Dr. Nunez is flexible with office hours and is good at answering your questions.
Your homework will ne slides about the topic and he will do a worksheet in class with you. I found it difficult to ask questions because sometimes he'd completely ignore you. The achieves were 10x harder. You learn new topics a day or two before the exam and are expected to know it.
You learn online and then during class go over what you learned. Its confusing and hard to follow along. Exams were hard
It is a flipped classroom model, meaning you are expected to have an idea of the material before lecture. The playposits are relatively vague, but he is in-depth with his lectures. The hw is exponentially more difficult than the exams. The practice worksheets help a lot. You should pass this class if you do EVERYTHING you are expected to.
Nunez was a very good chemistry professor! I felt that he taught well with lots of detail. He taught it in reverse by having us watch videos the night before our lectures which truly helps you learn more about the topics. He also did a very good job at preparing us for the exams and I felt his grading scale was fair.
This course is flipped style so you watch a video before class and do a worksheet with him during lecture. Then you have an online assignment due about a week later. You will easily succeed if you watch the video and don't do the assignments last minute. I did better in this class than I did in my honors chem in high school. Nunez is 11/10
Dr. Nunez is a nice person and always welcomes questions during lectures. Sometimes he is hard to understand but overall this was not an issue. Put in the work outside of class and you will be fine because he covers all the content you need to know for the exams. Try to take his classes if possible.
Dr. Nunez set up his class to be much more difficult than the exams, however, his class is quite work heavy, requiring pre-lecture videos, in-lecture quizzes, and in-lecture worksheets.
Dr. Nunez cares so much about his students, and truly loves teaching. His class is definitely hard, but he's willing to help if you reach out and he's super helpful!!
Nunez helped me so much. Even when I wasn't in his class anymore. His door is always open and he cares about his students. He's the only reason I've done well in chemistry and I would gladly take his class again. Very good professor and supportive person.
One of the few decent profs for gen chem. He uses a flipped classroom & the homework is significantly harder than the tests, but if you understand the homework you will do well on the tests. His lectures are straightforward and easy to understand, though sometimes the in class worksheets can drag. Pay attention and do the work and you can succeed!
Well, Nunez may come off as mean and not understanding students' issues, but his teaching ability is outstanding. He's very clear in his lectures. I thoroughly enjoyed his flipped classroom teaching style. If you have the opportunity to take him as a professor for this class, I highly recommend him.
I learned a lot in his class and thought he was a great teacher. I retained the information really well. However, his exams are a lot harder than my current chem professor's exams. I was able to get an A due to the final. The class was hard, but definitely not impossible! Just study and put in the work, and you should be fine.
I loved this class. There's a lot of playposits and achieves but they were grade boosters and helped a lot with learning the material. The lectures are great and very helpful. He is very responsive. I enjoyed this class and would like to have him as a professor again.
rude, not helpful, awful experience.
Although the class can be difficult, I think that Dr. Nunez does a great job at preparing students. When you make time to talk to him, he will give you tips/ advice for the exams. Compared to the other chemistry professors I've had, Nunez made chemistry the most understandable.
Wasn't the best at teaching and just straight up rude
I literally don't know where to start. I had him my first semester of my freshman year. Let's just say he was on of my favorites. He is funny during lecture which is handy while sitting for that long. Along with this, he held office hours multiple hours a week open for questions or concerns. I would say the material was reflective of the exams.
Dr. Nunez is honestly a sweet guy. He is always willing to help and give advice. The reason for my lower rating is simply the teaching style; he uses a "flipped" classroom method which doesn't jive with me at all. I had to teach myself almost everything because class-time consisted of 3 practice problems & a quiz.
He can come off intimidatin g but he explains math and calculations pretty well. HE will explain things to you if you're confused you just have to not be intimidated.
He was my favorite this semester. Chemistry is so hard and boring, but he makes it more enjoyable than it is. After lecture, you'll do a 2-4 question iclicker assignment and he will help if you need it. So nice and so funny.
He was the reason I got an A in chemistry. He explains everything with a lot of detail and cares about helping. Before exams he'll do review sessions for just his students and always offers office hours. He's a little scary at first but he cares a lot about having students being successful in the class.
This is a difficult course, but Dr. Nunez is a very funny and caring professor. He teaches as a flipped classroom, which is very helpful. I was in the honors section, and we had a group project where we had to write a procedure to identify salts based on what we had learned. It was pretty easy to do. I would 100% recommend him to anyone taking 107.
If you do not take the time to watch the notes you WILL struggle, but if you pay attention you will be fine. Dr. Nunez is an amazing professor and I learned a lot from his class. He can be intimidating, but don't be afraid to ask questions. The exams are very hard, I highly suggest using the practice worksheets and old exams to study.
You have to watch playposits before class which SUCK but his lectures are very engaging. CHE 107 is just a really difficult class, but Nunez does a great job explaining tough concepts. His humor is a little rude tho, I once went to his office hours for help and rather than helping me bro just made fun of me, but hey some people like that idk.
Funniest prof at UK. Great at explaining material. Anyone who says otherwise is not very smart or did not watch the videos.
He was good at making class fun and entertaining
He was a very clear instructor, attendance in lectures AND recitation is mandatory as you have an iClicker quiz at the end of most lectures. The content does get hard but there are prep videos due the night before each class to help you get a good understanding of what you'll be looking at. Exams are similar to in class material.
Great professor. Somewhat difficult class if you do not take the time to go over content outside of class. He explains the easiest way to memorize the content.
class made me switch my major knowing i would fail. don't even bother emailing him it feels like talking to an ex that has me blocked. explains things in a way more difficult way than it needs to be yet doesn't give any context at the same time. tests are hard and has you staring blankly at the screen
Like most, studying outside of class is recommended in order to pass. His explanations are easy to follow but a tad quick paced. A good professor.
The exams will affect your grade so much, especially the final. He's a good professor though, the class is very lecture heavy. Attendance matters a lot, you will be graded on in class assignments and he uses iClicker.
He is really funny but wants you to participate. He will wait for you to answer when he asks questions during lectures. He's great, though.
When I took 109 freshman year, I honestly didn't love Nunez simply because the class was hard and I blamed him. Now that I'm taking 107 with another professor, I would do anything to have Nunez's teaching back. He actually teaches how to calculate problems, and the reverse classroom method actually works bc he just goes through examples in class
I loved Dr. Nunez. I had a lot of questionable professors this semester and let me tell you he was my best professor by FAR. He can be a little intimidating but he truly does want the best for everyone taking the class. I would also say you should absolutely go to lectures they help TREMENDOUSLY especially on test days because he does a review.
