Super nice dude. Helpful when you ask questions. His way of teaching is different and that is what makes his class interesting. Definitely recommend!
Very nice professor. Very helpful and makes you kind of think but is there to help you succeed
I didn't want to drop this class but I did. It was a mix of the professor/ course that threw me off. He's nice but very vague when answering questions, which was the point of the class. We were supposed to grade ourselves, agree on a class contract, etc. If you think about it it's easy, but it confused most of us. Half the class dropped.
If you don't have much knowledge/experience with writing, I wouldn't recommend. - Super nice guy - Not the greatest at explaining things - Does little to no workshops - class is based on how you and your peers want it to be (you create your own rubric) but it left everyone 100% confused. - He kind of expects you to know how to write
He's a nice teacher but confusing. Grading contract was thing which confused me a lot. Never like to attend his class again
Good class and also really makes you think. Show up, participate and pass
Dr. A was a great teacher in my opinion, he genuinly cares about bettering your writing and is very accessible and lenient with some portions of the class. If you don't like showing up to class or your trying to do the bare minimum wrong teacher. But if your actually trying to learn something this guy is great.
Dr. A was a great teacher. The class at first was confusing but we all worked as a team and he never gave up until we all got it! we only had to write 2 essays and all you have to do is just turn in your work and show up to class and you're guaranteed to pass. it's an easy going class! it's very enjoyable.
If you dont show up , no you wont pass. Overall great teacher, open minded and will make you write two papers (3-4 pages) about really interesting subjects that will teach you alot! super easy class, nice guy!
Professor A was my favorite professor. He's compassionate and wants you to succeed. He is sometimes tough. He doesn't just give you the answer you want. He sets you on a path so you find them yourself. He created a safe open environment that brought the class together and genuinely cares about his students. I highly recommend attending office hours
Best professor ever. He is really nice and helpful. i took this professor during fall'16 and it was fun. Caring, supportive, smart, helpful, he is everything a professor should be. His grading criteria is great and classes are comparatively easier and he will make sure you learn everything you should. Trust me and take him.
Awesome teacher youll be working on 1 paper the whole semester. The paper will be broken down into 10 little assignments. Awesome teacher, very caring, and nice. Show up to class and you will pass for sure.
He's an amazing Professor! Had him for ENG101 and ENG102. If you're looking for a fun yet great learning experience it's this professor.
Dr. A was my fisrt ENG 101 teacher at Harper. At first I was nervous but he is very funny and down to earth. He does give you points for attendance, so please show up. as long as you go to class and participate you will pass!
Absolutely amazing teacher. I took his online class that was 8 weeks long and he coached you through the whole thing. Easy discussion questions and helpful assignments. Each assignment got you farther into your paper and helped you dive into your topic. Best undergrad class I've ever taken thus far. Nothing but good things about him! Take him !!
He was really understanding. We mainly worked on a lot of papers. He's a wonderful professor. There's assignments that might be post pone, but as long as you get it done, that won't be a problem
He is nice person just not good teacher. Did not learn much. Took with another teacher and liked class alot. Just not good teacher.
If you are already a good writer he is ok. If you need someone who will get to the nitty gritty and teach you then you should take someone else. He is nice like others have said. But he is not able to teach.
I honestly thought he was a great prof. Turn in your assignments and you should AT LEAST get a B in the class. You have to be a fairly good writer but I never had a problem with him and he was easy to talk to. Just turn in assignments and you should be ok.
Funny and caring. Took the class over summer so it was definitely challenging but doable. You need to show up and participate. Do the assignments and essays and follow his VERY clear grading guidelines and you will get a good grade. Class was hard but the teacher was great. I got an A and Im a new older student
Boring. Learning nothing. My hs English teacher was so wonderful...I miss her
DISORGNIAZED
Agree he is disorganized. Harper has some good profs but he is not of that quality.
I took him awhile ago. He is confusing and disorganized. Cannot recommend.
Worst teacher in Harper. Do not take him!
Very unclear on what he expects from the class. He is udgmental & unsympathetic. Told us he wants us to fail in order to "learn", but will not clearly correct us on what we are doing wrong. He expects everyone to know how to write, and if you don't, you are seen as unqualified and he admitted that to the class several times. Worst teacher I've had.
Expects us to know how to write at an advanced level. The essays have very difficult prompts to write about, they are very hard to understand. Throughout the semester he takes away the prompt totally and expects us to come up with a well thought-out essay with little to no knowledge on how to write an essay with no prompt. Gives a lot of homework.
Dr. A is fantastic. I didn't find him distracted at all. He has an usual style, but I really liked it and learned alot from him.
He is not a good professor to conduct this course, I think he would be a better fit teaching online classes instead. As he utilized YouTube videos on how to write papers the whole semester, there was no point paying hundreds of dollars to the school for this class. His office hours are also very limited.
I want my money back. This was a waste of my time and money. He seems like a nice guy but cant' teach his way out of a paper bag. The part time teachers like him just are not as good as full time teachers.
I did not like this teacher one bit.
He seems unprepared and is disorganized and confusing and unp
He seems like a nice man but he is not good at teaching he wants to be your friend and wants you to like him more than to teach you something.
Absolutely unorganized and unhelpful. Grades assignments based on arbitrary/subjective standards, such as how long your work was in relation to class average or how much "effort" he believes you put in. Most of the lecture is unnecessary and monotonous, but, you still absolutely need to show up every day. Tough grader with outdated subject matter.
Confusing and unclear. He is poor communicator. Wanted to be liked by students but didnt know how to teach us. So glad I am done!
I took him over the summer. He's very confusing and disorganized, which makes it hard to do well, especially in eight weeks. His answers were always vague, and when I tried to get help, his answers would just confuse me more. All of the assignments were based on each other, so if you redid one, you had to redo the rest. Very easy to get behind.
He is honestly the best professor I've ever had! Although the material given is a little complex he uses such a unique approach to help you understand it. He gives you amazing feedback so you know exactly what he's looking for in your paper. He is so kind and understanding As long as you pay attention and do the homework you'll pass!
Pretty easy class, gives like one homework assignment a week mainly reading a passage and answering questions. He does take attendance, he likes to make people work in groups or partners a lot.
He isnt organized and he is not prepared and he does not like students. Hard to follow. I am bilingual and he is not good for people like me. Also does not in his office hours so hard to find him to talk abou assignments. I think he is part time and not around much.
Dr. A is awesome! I dont know what half of these bad reviews are talking about. He doesnt lecture, he knows his stuff and hes in his office or available through remind all the time. I though his health careers class was hard but definitely worth it. Take him if you want to learn something.
His trauma class was life changing. Incredible teacher and person!!
Took him last summer and had a super cool project to work on. We made our own Ted talks! He was always available through remind and helped me through some difficult personal stuff. He's a great guy!
I can honestly say that Dr. As class help me grow as a writer. It was definitely hard and I wasn't used to his teaching style at first but he really helped me gain confidence and write better. I would say that people who are struggling to write well should take his class.
He's a nice teacher. I've taken his summer class and it has been fun. He's giving us a lot of reading, but that helps. You only have one essay to submit if you take this class and no final exam. I've taken English 101 and he's a fun teacher. I came for assistance and he helped me a lot to pass the class.
if you are a person who is open to talk about your past and explain it to others, then u can take his class. I wasn't but I still passed but it would be easy if you are comfortable. he is a good person, but it was weird for me to talk about my past in a class of strangers.
He is poor teacher. disorganized and confusing. Not helping Would like to have a better teacher.
So....I like Harper but he is not up to the standard of other teachers. He is unclear and disorganized and does not seem like he knows what he is doing or what he wants from us students. Its my fault I took him because it fit my schedule. I think he is a part timer. The part timers at Harper are not very good. I recommend you take someone else.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! He is an a**hole, he is lazy, and not a good teacher. You have A lot of reading for homework but you only had to do 3 papers ( that is nice but that's the only good thing) for showing up to class you have to go if you want your points if you do not go you don't get full points. HE IS RUDE STAY AWAY!!!!!!
He's really confusing on what he wants on paper I found this class to be hard, because of him. He's not organize and I went to his office and there's no help there either, if anything he made things more confusing. I would say stay away from him!
He is an absolutely absurd teacher to work with it, along with the fact that he is very unforgiving in grading papers, and journals. Ended the class with a B but I'm sure if I took a different English class I would've gotten an A for sure.
Very tough grader. So unoriganized and doesn't know what he's talking about. Don't take his class.
Once in a while he was good but most of the time he is just arrogant and acts like he is the best professor you could have gotten, he is not. Don't bother asking a question, he will force you to check the syllabus. His writing lab sessions were mostly helpful but focuses in detail on things that do not matter. There's better ones out there!
Dreadful, arrogant and does not like students. Harper has some good profs but he is not one of them. He doesnt care about teaching us. Should avoid him at all costs you will not learn a thing.
Loved Professor Anastasia! At first was a difficult professor but then made me grow as a writer and really challenge my thoughts, wasn't a typical English professor liked to talk about controversial things to get the class going, made students engage within one another, I loved Professor Anastasia! Great teacher, don't let the other comments fool u
Terrible. The worst professor I have ever had at Harper.
Did not care about his students at all. If I chose another professor I would have ended with an A. Makes the class about himself.
I really hate talking bad about people but he is not nice. He can not teach. Unless you already have a masters and a PHD this is not the class for you
I took his class about 2 years ago and can say do not take english 101 with this guy. First day of class had us fill out a sheet about what pronouns we use and told us to call him "doctor". His prompts were ridiculously worded and he even tore apart my essay in front of the classroom when it was supposed to be "confidential". DO NOT TAKE
I took English with focus on the health careers with Dr. A, and it was great. The topics were super interesting, and I didn't feel he was too hard while evaluating. English is not my first language, and I got an A, since he was so accessible, and always willing to help. Take him, he's a great professor and an amazing person.
Dr Anastasia is an amazing teacher as he really cares about you as a person. He helped me get through the class when a curveball was thrown. Expectations are clear and all the help and guidance you could need is provided. Is it hard? If it were easy, why would you bother? Think! Work! He has opened my eyes to a new way of reading and thinking.
I had ENG101 with Dr. A, and his class was so great that I took ENG102 with him as well. He organizes his class in a way that you don't feel overwhelmed with the learning process, but you end up learning a lot. His class discusses very important issues. His class has made me a better person and a better writer. He genuinely cares about his students
Dr. Anastasia was probably the professor that I had that cared the most about his students. He helped me get through a very hard time, and I learned so much about myself in his class. Overall, I enjoyed having classes with Dr. Anastasia since he made his classes very easy to digest, but I ended up learning a lot. Take him, he is a great professor.
I had ENG102 with Dr. A, and his class has made me a better writer. The lectures weren't hard, and the class was organized so that week by week you built on knowledge for the final paper, which was honestly great and so refreshing. He also helped a lot, if needed, outside class. He was always willing to set up a meeting to talk about issues you had
He was worst one I had at Harper. He wants you to like him and acts like he thinks he is a counseler but what I needed was a teacher. I have a counseler already I needed an ENg teacher and That was not him.
wow. he is absolutely horrible. he does not describe how to do assignments well at all. doesnt answer his emails days upon days. grading? yeah no. good luck with that. its taken him 19 days to grade one thing back from october to perfect my grade back up to an A. He is full of himself. Trust me he doesnt care about you. Save yourself. Please.
u won't know ur grade bc he NEVER puts grades in. he is RUDE. he says his feedback is tough but he just calls u dumb w out saying it. grade is currently an A but again I could have an F bc he hasn't put grades in for over a month. his lecture videos are too long and off-topic. fr don't take his class! 0/10! horrid. SUCKS AT EXPLAINING ASSIGNMENTS!!
His class was pretty straightforward. If you do the work, you'll pass. Besides, his homework and paper assignments are not that difficult.
He is always available to help and posts detailed lectures. Lots of Assignments but help with the final assignments. Very easy going.
He is just bizarre. I took him awhile ago but the format of his class is so weird. He makes it seem like he is nice and caring but in reality he only cares about himself based on how his class is run. Obviously he is a good writer. Does not mean he should be a teacher. He does not seem to teach how to write an essay. If he cared he would explain
Dr. Anastasia is great, the assignments are not difficult and offers plenty of extra credit assignments. Although he was sick for 1/2 of the semester and didn't grade any assignment for over two months, he compensated the students by giving an A to all of these assignments).
Never grades anything on time and when it came to the final couldn't revise any of my essays because nothing was graded. All he does is complain about not having time to teach because he already has 6 other classes and is an advisor of the Pride Club. Would not recommend taking his class.
He is very compassionate and understanding with his students which is great if you need support but kind of annoying if you're just there to learn and do the assignments. He's not super reliable when it comes to grading or proper teaching procedures. It felt like my friend was teaching the class which sounds fun but it just made it harder to learn.
The first week he literally said how was I college ready and basically said how did I pass English 101. He basically called me dumb and in a way insulted me. Around week 8 he stopped grading and I even had to meet with a tutor outside of class for the last 8 weeks to help me because of her I was able to get a B. Overall I would not take again
He starts the semester as a nice, active teacher, but later disappears. He's either sick or has some family issues - always some excuses. Grading is way behind, most of the time you do work not relevant to the final project and get swamped in the end. He studies trauma and wants you to suffer. Pick another teacher with better reviews.
He called off the first class, then he was ~20 minutes late to the rescheduled date. On that day he explained to the class how his language and attitude tend to upset students. All the while he was failing to make the homework available for anyone to do for the first 1-2 weeks. The thought of withdrawing has never entered my mind faster.
Genuinely one of the most condescending and full-of-himself professors I've ever had. He pretends he cares about his students, but in reality all he cares about is being right. He constantly cancelled class and when we did have class, he would do the bare minimum of teaching us. I cannot recall a single thing I've learned all semester.
Horrible Teacher DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I took ENG 211 which is fiction/social justice and I love this professor. He was so straight forward and it was a really easy class. He is good at communication and give back good feedback. Really interesting class too. I highly recommend this class.
This guy has really bad communication and has a rude manner when speaking to students. hard grader and bad wording with assignments. save yourself and dont take this professor.
You have to work hard to earn a grade but he is overall great.
He is doing his job well. Lots of homework
Run. Just run. Far away and as fast as you can.
During my first year of college I did not know about this website. He's a poor grader. Doesn't know how to answer simple questions to students. When asked questions all he says reread what I wrote for you to compete. Then you wait the next day and he will give you a 0 and tell you to redo it. don't take this man. SAVE YOUR SANITY. ONE OF THE WORST
Slowly disapears throughout the semster and hard to get a hold of him. He is frequently sick or has a family emergency. Communication skills lacking, when he did communicate it was passive-aggressive and lacked empathy (very heavy on the passive-agressive part). The work isn't hard but he is very strict about writing. I don't recommend.
Was completely unaware that class was canceled on the first day and assigned us too much homework but please don't choose him thank god I got an A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ still I wouldn't take him again and anyone do not choose him. Read this >:(
If your other classes are heavy DON'T TAKE HIM!! A ton of stuff to complete and honestly the topics for his essays are super uninteresting and boring. Took ENG101 with a different professor which made me realize how heavy his workload is compared to other professors.
I am only half way through the online summer semester and already can't stand his new "badge system". If you have 1 tiny typo he deducts major points. He thinks this is helping you but in reality it's an overall pain especially when this isn't the only thing you have going on in life. If you can avoid taking him, do it.
This teacher genuinely cares abut your success. He isn't going to just hand you an A, you have to work for it. I loved his badge system. Unsure why previous commenter said he deducts points, because the badge system doesn't have points. If you implement his feedback and work hard, it's an easy A. The perfect class to take over this past summer.
