Very articulate notes... will use them forever
He's a funny guy.
funny guy, doesn't teach things required on tests!
good prof!
He always looks to his left when teching...
A good prof, a little difficult to understand
Funny Prof with very neat, colourful board notes. Explains well.
Excellent Professor, very clear overheads and very approachable.
of course sexy, with the brit accent and all

Best orgo prof. I had since I started university

Hunk with an English accent and a sense of humor (in organic chemistry!)
I love Professor Dicks! He's the most amazing (and cute) professor I've ever had

Best chem prof ever! Clear notes, cute accent.
WOW!!!
his accent drove me crazy! ;)~ i loved it!
he is the best prof ever!!! love him!
he was absolutely my favourite professor.
good prof, very clear and concise
Very enthusiastic and very good notes, helps you understand chemistry by relating it to real life stories
Cool prof. Teaches well.
Great teacher & funny guy.
His notes are sooooo good and twice himself:)
HE IS NOT HOT!
Do you think he's not tall enough?

Incredibly talented and helpful professor. One of the best at U of T!
Best prof at U of T by far!!!
Gave clear, concise notes. Extra help was extremely helpful beyond what was expected. the sexiest teacher u of t has to offer and that british accent...
The best prof! Though I find that accent more distracting than sexy...
Good Prof overall!
mmmm, dee best lecturer ever~!!! with that hot hot accent......mmmhmmm, i love andy dicks!
He looks kinda hot... lolz
He's the best prof at U of T!! Always willing to help, and inspired me to like chemistry! i'm serious!! and the austrailian/british accent is a plus!
Amazing, friendly and approachable professor who tried to make orgo interesting although the course was veryyyyy difficult. FYI, he is against bell-curving at the end of the year, so BE AWARE!!!
Has an adorable accent. Very helpful. Excellent notes! Wonderful professor but his tests are difficult. One of the very best professors at U of T.
He is one of the best Prof. in UT. I love his pronunciation of "Me-thane".
He gives great explanations, makes it really easy to understand the material, and as an added bonus, he's got this amazing accent.
EXCELLENT prof, explains well, presents well, funny and not boring. My best prof so far.
amazyng teacher!
He is a great prof. Likes his students.
An Amazing prof! He was very clear on what he was teaching... He made the lectures fun
Ur great prof ... but make ur tests easier please!
Very nice guy, helpful, clear, concise. ADORABLE ACCENT!!!!
andy dicks owns. i'm currently trying to decide between CHM 247 and 249; i emailed him to ask his opinion and he was unbelievably helpful. i loved his lectures in 138... very clear, and he went almost too slow at times =op
ROWR...i love the accent;)
Good Prof. British way of teaching, concise, highly structural, makes complex concepts easy to understand. Has a sense of dedication in teaching.
chm247 is very challenging, heavy work. i struggled alot and brought problem after problem to dicks, and he was always kind, patient and helpful, the kind of teacher undergrads need to see more often.
Made a notoriously difficult subject easy to understand
He's a great lecturer, very clear, funny, and helpful. His tests, however, are a completely different story.
Clear and dedicated educator, works hard to give the best education he can: hard tests B-- S---. The mans tests are fair and moderately challenging
He's alright...his lecture notes are all written up. Expect to go to class to copy pages upon pages (average: 3 pages, double sided) in one hour. He is talking at the same time, but you will tune him out because you're too busy scribbling. HARD TESTS!
Best prof at U of T by far. Made class interesting. Clear voice. Funny guy.. he even sang 2 chem songs for us! But first test was brutal (53% avg?). 2nd test was simple w/ 78% avg! His notes are VERY neat and organized!
hes really bad
Worst chemistry professor I had in University.
Nice man, makes his notes available before hand but his tests are brutal.
A clerk at A&S said that an "astounding number of people failed" the exam, which is shrouded in secrecy. There's a strong disconnect between theory taught in lecture and the amount and proficiency of application he expects on tests.
Best prof ever
HORRIBLE. Awful prof
HOTTIE HOT HOT HOT!!!!!
I had him when he first started teaching at Erindale. Nice guy, tried hard. Tests were fair. Much better than the professor for the second half of Organic Chem: Dr. Still.
Clear that the students giving him "1" ratings failed CHM 247... not very objective!
This course was terrible, he refused to put his lecture notes online and went on power trips in class, threatening to CANCEL the course during one lecture because the room was overcrowded. Abuses his authority as a professor. Will never take another Chemistry course because of him.
If I didn't have him, I think I would have failed. I got a transfer credit, hence I'm a first year student taking a 2nd year course, not knowing what was waiting for me, and this indeed is an extremely difficult course. Thanks to Dicks, I'm not as stressed as I would be if someone else taught.
amazing guy
As a lecturer he isn't bad at all. I believe he is a nice professor and the tests are within reason. He makes it clear on what is testable and what is not. The only problem is that the course itself is hard.
only let student copying note, never really explains anything, horrible lab coodinator, useless labs.
this course has the most horrible exam ever. dicks seems like a good prof until you realize that he never really explains anything. he just reads the lecture notes. you memorize 100's of reaction without really understanding them.
hard course
Great professor..explains things in a clear and simply manner..organized notes and lectures..great speaker...overall awesome prof!
Great lecturer, but the tests (for me and many) were difficult, particularily since he forces you to memorize a heck of a lot of reactions which any idiot can look up in a book.
A very good prof, the test was hard! i still remember *shudders*
Really nice, approachable prof. Explanations and notes are excellent. Tests seemed fair to me (perhaps lots of memorization, but they were straight-forward). Overall, a very enthusiastic, good prof (and lab coordinator)
great lecturer, although too quick for me at times.
i would NOT recommend this course.
Excelllent Prof, filled with energy and willingness to teach !!!
I think he's sexy!!!!
I swear i could never ever take his course again, so brain numbing
A difficult course (I'll be there again next term...) but Dicks made the lectures tolerable. Good sense of humour, organized overhead notes, gives plenty of time to copy down each page. Set up lots of extra help sessions before each test.
He's a very nice guy but the course material is killer...too many bad memories associated w/ Dicks...
This is not a fun course, do not take it if you don't have to. Prof Dicks on the other hand is definitely an eye candy. If you go to class simply for the pleasure of "viewing" him, go right ahead.
he goes above and beyond for his students..really how many profs will actually post summary of all the reactions studied and reveiw on nomenclature..not to mention the ample amount of time made available to students before tests!! too bad the course material is killer!

He's an excellent prof, explains really well and is always available to provide extra help. Makes chemistry much more enjoyable!!!
His notes are amazing. They're so clear and complete that you don't even really need the textbook.
Wonderful prof! very funny, keeps you interested. Tests are hard but very manageable. British accent is a plus!
I really don't see how this course helped me with ANYTHING I studied in my program at this stupid school. They make it compulsory on purpose for every science program to take your money... crooks!!!
best chemistry teacher ever.
Great notes. Great attitude. Organized, clear, and great use of examples and humor. Fair tests. Made me regret I haven't taken CHM247 this year.
Excellent in every way. Truly brings organic chemistry to life (literally) with great real-world examples and application of concepts. Passionate about the subject and very helpful. To future students: this is a particularly demanding course...take extra care to keep up with the problem sets - practice problem-solving regularly!
He was super great!! He was clear, didn't mumble and was loud so everyone can hear (i'm hard of hearing). His notes were clear and explained everything well. and he was helpful during office hours. Hes adorable! and was really nice to me.
He's a very good lecturer, and very approachable if you want to ask him questions on course content. But watch out...his final exam is a killer!
If only other chem prof could be like him. He's so funny and nerdy in the unique sense. He's also very clear and gives lots of example to give you a very clear understanding of the concepts. And his lecture slides help greatly as well. The one warning is: his EXAM is BRUTAL.
I did not like his rigid, typewriter-style writing. Organic chemistry itself is fun, but CHM138 was most definitely not.
Tests were brutal.. course did not help me with my program... not too sure why it was mandatory
Not a fun course! Unnecessarily tough and useless in terms of my program. I never used this stuff again so I'm not too sure why it was mandatory.
Hard course, great teacher. Would discuss concepts with students for hours after class. Clearly dedicated to his students and job. I recommend the teacher, but beware: hard course!
The organic chemistry course is no walk in the park, but if you are required to take it, please ensure that you have Andy Dicks. If you don't have this amazing prof, you'll regret your decision. He's funny, and explains things wonderfully. I hate chemistry, but would take it again for this guy and his cockney accent.
Absolutely great
Best prof I've had at UofT. His enthusiams for organic chem really shows and makes the class fun and interesting. The tests were hard but fair. He makes difficult material very clear and really goes above and beyond to help students
Best prof you'll have in first year. His smile is epic!! Never miss his class, they are the best!
Explains concepts very well, takes time to go over past test questions and answers students' questions after class. He makes jokes, keeps class interested and makes organic chem fun to learn. He is passionate about teaching orgo, he keeps the class engaged and overall he is a very jolly fellow. I would take other chem courses with him as well
Very clear, made me want to go to class, very helpful
He is an amazing professor ! He will truly take time to help you with anything and he is a very patient person. You can really see the passion he puts forth in teaching this course and helping first years.
Explains concepts well, tests were fair. Exam was tough
Clever, clear and interesting. Really connects the basis of organic to the real world and is passionate about his work.
The most amazing professor with excellent notes. His enthusiasm and patience is really commendable. He makes one of the toughest courses at Uoft, very fun and enjoyable.
When I came into this course, I remember nothing from grade 12 chem. Dr. D made chem fun with his energy and enthusiasm. His pacing was good and he leaves some blanks in his power point slides so you actually have to take some notes.
He is a great professor, but he talks a lot during his lectures, so there is little time for you to copy down the information. He has a British accent.
Great guy, great sense of humour, probably my favourite professor so far at U of T. He's also very helpful, and is willing to hold in pee to explain a concept to you in the hallway.
So far my favorite professor at UofT. Really funny, super clear in his lectures and he really cares about the class. All around great guy.
Okay so get ready to cry a whole lot unless you are ABSOLUTELY in love with organic chemistry. 10% of the content is like high school orgo, but the rest of it is just a complete and utter mess of concepts and visualisations. Read the textbook. Go to class. GO TO YOUR TUTORIAL. Memorise those reaction mechanisms.
He's one of those profs who'll ask how you're doing and encourage you to ask him questions. Extremely engaging and an excellent professor.
He sparked my interest in organic chem and was always there for extra help
Very very good prof, extremely engaging and takes a personal interest in your progress. Gives students the option to schedule personal meetings outside of class to discuss "paths to success". Clear, concise teaching, and also clear on what he expects from students. Tests may be construed as difficult if you wing it, but generally not difficult
Genuinely just a nice British prof that makes learning at UofT (dare I say) fun.
An amazing lecturer! Super funny and friendly, really cares about the course. Make sure to come up to him after class if you don't understand something, he will help you 100%.
I honestly looked forward to his lectures. I don't even like chem that much but damn this prof was good at making me forget that. 11/10 I'm gonna try take more of his lectures in the future
Great would be an underestimation. He teaches the Canadian Olympiad team for chemistry. Go to office hours.
Very clear in lectures. Explains the chemistry quite well. Pretty funny too at times. British accent to top it off.
He explains concepts in organic chemistry very clearly and makes it easier to understand. However, despite this, his test papers are not easy to crack!
Best lecturer in chemistry, hard questions but fair.
He was one of the best CHM profs I ever had. Organized, clear and simply outstanding in teaching. His questions are very fair. Amazing prof.
Best prof of the lot in CHM136. Really made concepts clear and did a good job of keeping the class engaged. He's pretty funny (even worse a banana suit to class for Halloween) and he clearly outlines what will be tested in tests. Would definitely recommend!
He is excellent at explaining concepts in organic chemistry clearly. It's really easy to understand some complicated concepts as he breaks them down nicely and explains it in steps. However, I find his test questions are really hard. His questions are very tricky and require a lot of application.
Awesome lecturer but real tough test, I took his class last year, still haunts my dreams.
He's a great prof in so many ways. If I had him for the entirety of the course I guarantee I would have gotten an A+. He makes it so his lectures easy to stay focused and he's very clear on what he expects you to know for the tests.
Probably one of the best profs out there, awesome lectures, very clear, gives you helpful study tips and tricks for remembering things during lecture. On the whole, an awesome guy and an awesome prof.
He made me like organic chemistry again. After dealing with Professor Browning last year I thought I was hopeless, but Professor D changed that. Go to class. His lectures are awesome. He explains everything so well. His test will definitely test you on some fine details, but if you go to class and work for it you'll do great.
Great lectures, though tests are somewhat tricky.
Great prof!!! Made me enjoy organic chemistry in comparison to the prof I had for CHM136. Funny prof and his explanations are extremely clear and easy to follow.
He is my hero. Always gives a talk after every midterm and he will literally inspire you to do good on the next midterm. Very good lectures that are clear and concise. Covers difficult topics very smoothly and a generally nice and jolly person. Please take his Organic Chem classes, he's the definition of Sweetermans.
I love this guy! Honestly the CHM247 lecturing team is BOMB!! Such great teachers who evidently care for students. Whenever I pass Prof D's office, his door is always open. Also, his accent made me pay more attention to what he was saying, and he overall has excellent presentation skills. I was lucky enough to have him for CHM136 and CHM247.
He is just awesome, one of the best prof ever! He explains the concept super clearly and helps are always available. He made me love organic chemistry so much. His British accent made me concentrate more in class. Definitely would highly recommend this prof
He is the best. Orgo is not easy but he just has a way of making it doable. Great prof.
The best! His lectures are very clear and organized. He breaks difficult concepts down to manageable pieces and he is VERY available for students who seek help.
He is a very good lecturer. He explains well in class and is humorous. His midterms were hard but reasonable. But, after the class got moved online due to COVID, his final was super unreasonable, it was the hardest exam ive ever taken in my life. It was SO TOUGH i still did not recover mentally from that exam.
An incredible lecturer. Goes at a great pace to explain complicated concepts clearly. Does in-class problems to show you how to apply the knowledge you learnt and solidify everything. Very helpful and caring outside of class. Really went out of his way to accommodate students and overall just made organic chemistry a pleasure to learn.
He answers discussion board on Friday nights and Sunday mornings. Incredible professor!!!
I was terrified for CHM247 but he makes it really fun. Surprisingly one of my fav courses ever taken so far. He genuinely cares about students and puts in so much time and effort to make sure we understand the material. Always answering discussion board and after-class questions. Very engaging with students in the zoom lectures.
Starts lectures with a chemistry dad joke every time. Super accessible outside of class and clearly cares about students. Set up the online version of CHM247 in a great way (better than any of my other courses). Made me want to switch to a chem major. List goes on and on, he's really the best.
He really makes chem interesting and fun, he makes sure students are engaged in class and answers questions/stays after class to discuss the lecture content. Really enjoyed his class and I definitely recommend taking this class with him.
Professor Andy is phenomenal! His lectures are really well paced and he explains things clearly. Too bad we didn't have him for the entire term. Not to mention that he makes the learning experience really fun. Just one side note: the key to success in this class is practice, practice, and more practice!
Amazing, organized lectures. Great at explaining difficult concepts. Encourages students to attend office hours. Provides lots of practice/take-home questions from the textbook and in lectures as well. Prob would've finished the class with a higher grade if we had him during the entire term. His tests are difficult but fair.
Prof. Andy is a great lab instructor as well. He is very accessible outside of labs.
My favourite chemistry prof. His lectures are always engaging, well-paced, clearly thought out and organised. He makes sure that you understand difficult concepts and takes the time to answer your questions. Also gives plenty of examples. An absolute gem.
He is just great. The prof with the best memes and clear lectures.
Decent prof
Great prof but ochem is really not my strong suit
The professor makes ochem engaging and fun. Lectures are well-paced, and he's great at explaining tough concepts. For study prep, ChatGPT and Unstuckstudy were super helpful alongside the textbook.
One of the sweetest profs ! His lecture were engaging and he's so accessible outside of class. Was dreading orgo but it became one of my fav classes.
Greater Prof in the chemistry department! Best lecture with a nice logical approach, teaching you the mechanism step by step with arrows drawn. It's just like listening to his lecture, and you feel like you can understand pretty much everything without watching the recording again. Strongly recommended for in-person classes.
