Very intelligent, very captivating. Very liberal grading. And the hottest teacher ever!!
Easiest online class I've ever taken! Just keep up with the message board posts and do your Personal Philosophy paper (1-2 pages max) and you'll be fine. Very interesting and a great teacher. Definitely take this course.
He is a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend taking his class. As long as you do the reading and think, you'll be fine.
Very intelligent person. I highly recommend this teacher. He is demanding yet challenging. You will love this class.
HIGHLY recommended, teaches you to think outside the box. Very clear on what he wants. I def. enjoyed my experience in this class and would recommend this teacher!
Great teacher and very firm, yet very fair. As long as you follow the directions from the beginning, you can't go wrong with this guy!!! Eevn though it's online this guy is HOT!!
Very helpful. Very clear. Super mega nice and understanding. Got a lot out of this class.
Class was too easy Very interested in listening to himself talk, but no one else. Should have been more challenging. If you are into extreme running then you connect.
I liked this online class, and it was interesting. The discussion boards were always interesting, and he sets the class up so you will learn.
Professor Arroyo was a great instructor. I took his online class and learned to love a subject that I previous found boring. His instruction was clear to understand and was always available to help with anything. Also, hearing about his running made it easier to identify with him as a person instead of just seeing "Mr. Critical Professor".
He demands a lot from his students. He uses a lot of outside resources that helps you understand what he is teach. You to be a critical thinker and like to write papers to pass his classes. Please do not take him for two class during the same semester; he requires too much.
LOVED THIS CLASS! Makes you feel comfortable learning and thinking outside the box. Relates material to real life and is a very hands on and great professor to have. You will learn life lesson as you go along and the professor makes you want to reach out and grab life by the horns. Highly recommend this class!
Great teacher. Personable, attentive, interesting and knowledgable. The whole nine yards. I'm glad I took his class online to avoid distraction. Also, easy on the eyes if I might add.
Great teacher who interacts with the students on a regular which is difficult for an online class. keeps things fun by lots of variety. i would completely recomend him to anyone who is unsure about their interest in the class. he makes it fun and you want to engage. very thought provoking class and i am an IN THE BOX thinker. Great Teacher!!!
I highly recommend every students to take him for Phi 101. I am in the process of getting him for ethics, but all his class is filled already, though I will keep checking. This shows how great of professor he is. I took his online course and he is knowledgable and informative. He makes it interesting and very helpful. You can tell he love to teach.
He is a all around great teacher. He is one of the greatest teachers I ever had, and he is very intellegent.
took it online, i was a bit intimidated at first because he's so intelligent but he's really encouraging and makes you feel good about your way of thinking. he has really interesting topics, makes the class fun and interesting, plus, he's super, ultra, mega attractive!
I like this professor a lot. He is very nice and kind of silly. He lets you know exactly what he expects of right upfront. He doesn't just use the textbook, he uses other sources which is great because the textbook is boring. I would recommend taking this class to anyone I know.
Prof. Arroyo is very open-minded and has a very liberal approach to teaching. As long as you follow his basic rules (I took an online class and we had to do 3 posts per week--1 200-word post, 2 response posts of 150-words showing that we understood/could apply the readings) you will get 100%. You must also use APA Citation guidelines when writing
I loved this class! It kept you thinking and constantly questioning your beliefs. Professor Arroyo is very open-minded and wants you to speak what is on your mind and pretty much you can't be wrong in what you think. Not to mention he was super hot when I saw him at our meeting (I took online classes).
I was not too thrilled to have to take an Ethics class, and at first I was intimidated by the strict guidelines. However, Mr. A is awesome! Once you understand what he expects it really isn't hard at all. It was really interesting to discuss the topics given. I think the face to face meeting was really fun. P.S.-to my classmate: Yes, he is hot!
Professor Arroyo is AWESOME. The syllabus is clear and as long as you post within the guidelines it's an easy A. The topics he proposed each week were interesting and fun to write about.
Professor Arroyo made this class so interesting! He is extremely knowledgable in this subject and inspired all of us to think outside the box. I was definitely enlightened by this class and would encourage anyone to take it...whether it's a requirement or not!
Great teacher. He opens your mind to think in different viewpoints. Make sure to read the posting instructions because posting wrong can hurt your grade. Over all I like the class even though I took it online.
Extremely helpful teacher. Keeps class interesting and flowing. Very clear about the requirements.
Do the work and you'll get an A. Easy class. If you have questions, he'll get back to you pretty quickly.
Easy to get the grade if you do the work. Not a lot of structure, so you must stay on top of assignments and do the reading. Enjoyable over all, better than I thought Intro to Philosophy would be.
This teacher was very straight forward and fair. I learned alot through his teachings
Just do your assignments. He keeps it interesting. The requirements are given early enough for you to still function in your daily life.
There is no reason for students not to get an A in this class unless you are super lazy and unwilling to do your hw. The topics up for discussion are valid and really make you think. I felt like I learned a lot in this class about being open minded and thinking outside the box. I also enjoyed the teachers input. Very handsome by the way :)
This was a challenging course for me, thinking out of the box is not in my comfort level. He was always available for questions, quick responses via email for this online course. One mandatory meeting at the end of the semester. He gives you everything you need to succeed at the beginning of the semester. I learned a lot:)
I took this professor based on his reviews...I kinda think he is full of himself. The reason for an online class is because you have limited time..and I understand that class is a priority it is for me too. But with a full time job and a family..it is difficult to get on two or three times a week like he wants. Overall good class I guess.
This class was online however I might as well gone to class. He wanted us to log on two to three times a week. Online is suppose to be for students who's schedules are really tight. He made it hard. I was not disapointed completely just think he is into himself a bit.
Professor Arroyo is a great teacher. Each week we read the required reading and then posted our thoughts as well as do some research on our own to show we understand the topic fully. We were also asked to respond to one of our classmates. He is very easy going and even responds and posts with us sometimes. I highly recommend him. He was great!
Very nice. Interesting topics.
The class was online and although it was not the easiest online course it was interesting and I learned a lot. If you want the credits you need to be willing to work for it! One suggestion would be to do an in person class becauss Arroyo is adorable and funny.
I took an online class - it was easy to get assignments in and Professor Arroyo posted grades very quickly and was ALWAYS available. He was wonderful!
Do the work as he details in his syllabus and the grade is easy to obtain. Spend time on your posts and read the material for each week.
I hated this class, philosophy just gave me a headache. You are expected to do a lot of work in this class, and the discussion boards feel more like essays. You can ask him for help, but his answers will confuse you. He has you read his 30 page papers that he wrote and discuss them on the dicussion board. He seems full of himself.
Took online class. Easy class, I always take online classes due to work, etc. You are required to post 2 DB's a week, not a big deal. Don't wait till the night before to read the work. A lot of reading, but interesting. Professor is not strict, flexible and knowledgeable about material.
Very challenging. Very hot! : )
Does require some reading, but overall this class can be easy because there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to philosophy. As long as you know what your talking about you should do okay. Weekly discussion boards and one pop culture paper. Taking another one of his classes!
Online class/enjoyed it.I think it would have been more beneficial had I taken the lecture. He tells you how to post, WHEN to post, etc. Follow his directions, it's NOT difficult. Two discussions per week, one pop culture project (students pick their topic). Interesting, challenging and fun. Highly recommended!
Must Take!!! I took his Introduction to Philosophy online and I loved it. Great man, very intelligent. The work is a little heavy because he wants you to do 2 assignments every week but they're short (200 word) discussions. If you do the reading and the discussions on time there is no reason not to get a 97% like I did.
Do not disagree with any of his writings, your grade may suffer.
Dr. A is a great teacher. I took this class online for the Spring 2011 semester. I enjoyed his teaching style and would recommend this class. Now I would not say this class is easy because you are challenged through the discussion boards BUT it is NOT overbearing by any means and not something that will overwhelm the average student. Good Luck!
After having been out of school for several years, I really wasn't sure about taking this class. Although it was a challenge for me,I learned alot from the assignments we had. It doesnt' mean that I agreed with all of the writings, nor did our teacher ask or expect you to. I recommend this professor, he's good and fair.
Great professor. Took this class online. It's a lot of reading and you have to do some research outside of your text, but it wasn't too hard. As long as you follow his directions, and post your discussions, then you should do fine.
I took his online course, i did all of the asignments, i got all A's and B's on my Test and quizs, he never reports on progress because he is to busy he says. Do not take his online course! he might be better in person.
Took him for summer online course. WOULD NOT recommend, if your strapped for time. The academic portion of the class is fairly easy, but he requires service learning.During the semester students are required to volunteer a set amount of hours for a non profit organization. He can take anywhere from 3-4 weeks to grade papers.Talks about himself a lot
I am not sure who posted the comment before me. But you should have dropped the class if you can't do the 15 hours service learning project given by Dr. Arroyo. He is very very fair and really this is an easy requirement. In fairness to Dr. Arroyo, he is an excellent instructor. I strongly recommend him to anybody.
Yeh he is really hot! Only answer the questions posted in the discussion board and definitely complete your 15 hours service learning project and you are done. No mid-term or final test. Lovely day.
I'm currently taking him for 226 online. I fell a little behind and he was extremely helpful in specifying what he looks for in papers. That is one heck of a bogus review to whomever that wrote the one a few below mine. I highly recommend him for he has great teaching skills and his topics are extremely engaging.
For the people who rated on 5/18/11 and 7/10/11 apparently do not follow directions very well and apparently do not even know what class you need or what you signed up for. The man teaches 226 NOT 220 and it CLEARLY states in his syllabus what is required for the class before the class even started. Lazy people do not succeed.Good luck to you both
First off people are allowed to have DIFFERENT opinions. UGH, I found the community service so annoying, I took an online class because I'm BUSY, I didn't drop because I didn't have the time to! The discussion boards are stupid, just make something up.. I never opened the book, easy class yes, take someone else if you have no spare time.
If you are TOO BUSY in your life don't go to college; wait or make time. Just because it's an on-line class doesn't mean you have LESS WORK! Dr. Arroyo is a great professor and you can tell he loves what he does. He is clear on what he expects and answers questions promptly! Yes you have a service learning project, don't procrastinate and it's easy
He is a wonderful teacher. Do what's assigned and you will be fine. However he is a bit obsessed with this website and complains about the posts to his students. Not very professional. Having said that, that's the only draw back everything else is great and he is a great teacher.
I enjoyed answering his topics in the discussion board and giving my opinion on others comments. If I have another Ethics class, I will take him again.
He is a great professor! Be onboard his class. Don't wait for the last minute as it gets full immediately. Had a great time in his online class under Social Ethics this summer. How I wish he will be my instructor in another subject but this is the only subject I need for my degree. More power to him!!!
Took in summer online. Got A. U have 2 voluntter 15 hrs 2 a non-profit organization for a grade. There is a post every wk. U get 3 discussion boards grades & another 4 the volunteer work which u have 2 write about ur experience. It is a pretty easy class, but he does take 4ever 2 give u ur grades.
The class is awesome! When it comes to the discussion boards I really had to think about things I would normally not, and sometimes it got a bit personal, but overall good for the mind. I was a little bummed about the volunteering at first, but then I found an organization I love and I still volunteer there when I can! Not to mention this guy Is HO
This teacher is good stood true to syllabus and assignments are pretty easy. You dont really have to read the text to do the assigments most of the time and DB responses are 1-2 paragraphs required.
He is a great teacher. Post questions that require students to think. Has a true passion for his subject and it shows. Will clarify instructions if needed. DB are very important to your grade post regularly and you should be fine. I bombed a quiz with a 69. He was generous enough to give 10+ to all students and I still might end with a B. SWEET!
I took him for PHI 101,online class. I'm still not done with it but I don't think it is very hard. Discussion boards are extremely important,he is helpful, and you shouldn't have any problems if you do your posts on time! You don't have to go to the campus to take any exams which is awesome!
I took this online and thought this class was pretty hard. With a hectic schedule and Indepth scholarly-style posts with references required 2 x's or more / week, it made for much stress.
Online course, great and clear teacher. Syllabus is true to format. Discussion Board is priority 1 in this class, 2x week postings that use the text and online research. Does require work to get assignments done but can be comfortably added to ur schedule. No tests, 1 paper. Great Professor!
This course is very proactive. You MUST participate in all of the weekly discussions ON TIME, or you won't get a good grade. Tries to make it interesting, and succeeds. I thoroughly liked him, and I took this course online!
Took this course online, great professor. You MUST participate in a timely manner or your grade will suffer. Very flexible grading, and he's not the hard ass he portrays himself to be at first. If you work hard, he will give you the grade you deserve.
online class. I loved this class. It takes work but the hardest part is the thinking. He asks questions that makes you test your own faith. But I lovvedd this class. Trying to find away to take another one of his classes lol. 2DB post a week and MUST BE ON TIME. Minimal test and quiz. Focus is on DB.
I had Professor Arroyo for PHL 201 this semester. Good points: he is INVOLVED with his online class by posting voice recordings, updates, etc. Easy Grader. Seems to love his job. NO TEST OR EXAM Low Points: 2 Discussions a week, must review and write about 10 page plus papers written by him, will not alow you to work ahead. Over all OK class.Got A
AWESOME TEACHER!! Took online and it was great and a easy grade.
Took online in summer. We were required to make an original post, 200 words, on discussion board topic each week and a second post, 150 words, regarding another student's post for that week. We were also required to volunteer for 10 hours for 40% of our grade and write 200-300 word reflection.
Two posts weekly: 1)200 words-original post 2)150 words -response to another student's post. Use citations to support commentary. Grammar and language skills required. Also required to volunteer 10 hours at non-profit organization then post 200+ word reflection. Professor is very fair in grading. Textbook is essential to course.
Easy class with clear directions. Online posts mandatory, he also participates in these discussions. Make sure to respond to his posts for credit. Very interactive with his class for an online course. Posts are every few days so stay on top of that and you'll do fine in this class. Took this as a pre-req for a nursing class and would recommend
I would not recommend this class. He does not update grades until then end of the semester.
Professor Arroyo seem to be wiling to help, never personally ask but he seems the type to be there when you need it. You will have two weekly discussions boards and volunteer 10 hours to an organization. I wish some of the weekly assignment were more interesting and less about reading articles he's written and responding.
So Philosophy is somewhat difficult anyways. However, Dr. Arroyo has a good set up for you to expand your mind and make your views clear. But beware! Be prepared to read. Overall good course.
I found that Dr. Arroyo made this class WAY MORE difficult than it should. I feel like his grading is tough, and often unrealistic. I have never taken a philosophy class before, but for an elective class, he really makes you work for it. I am a straight A student, and I would rather take calculus again over taking any of his classes.
Time intensive course. Weekly DB & response. Book necessary for each module (rent it). 10hrs of volunteer work. Only 3 grades. Will receive 1 grade 3 weeks and other 2 the last week. I was late for a few assignments and still received full credit. You have to write about his own published articles. He emails back quickly. A with effort!
Mr. Arroyo seemed very nice in interaction. But as an online student, I found it infuriating to not know how well or poorly I was doing. He provides grading at the 3rd week of class, and then not again until the end. I have not received my grade yet, and I have no idea whether I made an A or failed. It's all based on DB, so it's super subjective.
I love this professor. It is definitely one that makes me think the hardest... I swear every week I feel like I will fail... until I begin writing. As long as you post your discussions on time... it seems you will do well. We are over half way through the semester, so I only have 1 Grade so far, that is frustrating... but he has been a great prof.
This class was an easy A. 200 word discussion post and 100 word response. Super easy to communicate the professor with as well. You are required to do a 10 hour volunteer event and write a paper about it for your final, but you will have have semester to complete. Don't wait and you'll do fine.
Basically all you have to do is be able to read, understand, and write a paragraph summarizing/reflecting on a certain reading or passage. The readings are very interesting and you will learn how to think differently! Teacher seemed very intelligent, as he often provided his own essays for us to read. He is also a fair grader. Highly recommend!
I took PHI 101 online and he was an awesome instructor! Every homework assignment is easy to find and understand. His blackboard is very neat, organized, and easily accessible. You do need the book, the quizzes weekly will come from the chapters you read each week. Weekly DB posts and quizzes, but as long as you do the work you will get an A.
Required volunteer service. Requirement was 10 hours, so it could be worse. However, if taking a heavy course load or have a busy schedule it is something to think about. Weekly discussion board posts with responses. He doesn't post grades, if you're uneasy about the quality of your work, it might make you nervous. Almost never used the book.
Professor Arroyo makes you work for your grade. He gives clear instruction on his expectations, so as long as you abide by that you will do great in this class. He taught me to think outside of the box and for that I am very appreciative.
