I have never had a more amazing teacher! Artis is the coach that expects the most from you but in return is always willing to give you the best of himself. That being said, be ready to work and the ROI will be triple the investment of time. I am so thankful for a teacher that actually prepared me for the "real world".

Not only does Artis teach you about selling in various contexts, but he really wants to help his students succeed. However, his approach to teaching is to make you work for it, so be prepared to read and write.... a lot. The literature is actually relevant and useful and if you need help, he is more than willing to be there.

Dr. Artis is a quality teacher whose main goal is to make sure you walk away from the class with valuable information to help you in your future career. He doesn't pretend to teach. The only book required is the The Challenger Sale. It's cheap so don't worry. You have to read a series of articles for each class. At the beginning of each class, there will be a 15 min quiz on the reading material. He's a great teacher! There are assigned readings and always either a quiz or exam so make sure you show up to class on time. The quizzes and exams are written, but the questions and topics are given far in advance to the class. His lectures thoroughly cover the weekly topics so take notes. This course offers MBA students a chance to hear from leaders within different industries on multiple aspects of leadership. The class was very insightful and the speakers were invaluable to the course.

Dr. Artis is a pretty genuine guy who brings real world experience. Taking advice from someone is a little easier when they themselves had success. I could see his teaching style (challenges view points) as off-putting to some, but I think he means well and he has a sense of humor. Overall, good teaching style.

I wish this class was not a separate 1 hour requirement because it causes scheduling issues. Some of the speakers are better than others. The grading is not bad, but you are not given much time to complete the assignment at the end of class.

I learned a lots from the speaker series and how I apply to my future career.

Took Dr. Artis for the Speaker Series and from class #1 you can tell he has a different style-- but it's actually really refreshing. He's a relatable & funny teacher, but is really thought provoking and challenges you to think. Not afraid to get off-track and explore tangents, which all end up circling back to the main point. I'd take him again.

Our professor is professional and with passions. He also bring us great opportunity to great leaders to fulfill class.

Great professor and a subject matter expert on leadership. The way he explained the basics of effective leadership was just great and made the class work for it rather than just explain it. This is a non-credit course but it felt like we worked for a credit.

I took this class thinking it would be just a "filler" turns out I actually learned something. This class required me to take a look in the mirror, and the speakers invited really allowed me to see where I needed to improve if I wanted to be a future leader. Pleasant class, the analysis with the professor after the speakers was great.

The Leadership Speaker Series won't be taught again, but I would take another class with Dr. Artis without question. He is very well organized, and class flowed very smoothly, so I never felt like my time was being wasted. Dr. Artis treats students with respect and really shows an interest in their success.

Professor Artis was engaged every week for the 4 week leadership class. Guest speakers were very knowledgeable and provided great feedback on what it takes to be a CEO at a company. This class was mainly about self reflection on leadership skills that the students possessed and how to work improve them.

Very good professor. He will allow you to think on your own and adds to the though process by asking challenging questions. He does not waste your time and will help explain the transition between learning something and applying it to the real world. If you can you need to take a class with Dr. Artis.

Dr. Artis' strength is in teaching people to think for themselves. He doesn't allow people to stick to acceptable conventions, which challenges you to go beyond average thinking. He concerns himself with the bettering of students in their thinking and performance in real life and not class and grades. Love this dude.

This is very good class. Simple concept but can learn a lot. Professor does not like people being late or using technology during class.

CEOs) are brought in to speak / be interviewed - and then a different approach is taken - we analyzed the speakers after they left. Definitely got more than expected from the class. Will definitely take more classes with him.

I really like the way he challenges his students to challenge conventional thinking on how to become a leader.

He is one of the best Professors to have, if you are an MBA candidate. I suggest all the candidates to take at least one course with him, to realize the change he can bring in the way one thinks about MBA. He is truly inspirational and motivational. It is a great course with Dr. Artis. This is the only course that you can meet the top leaders from industries. From the professional reflections after each talk, it's good way to learn some leadership characteristics in real world. Since day one, there hasn't been anything that he has said in this course that I haven't found valuable. He has real experience, cares about the success of his student, very straight forward, lectures are amazing. I took him over a 6-week summer, so classes were 3 hours long but I honestly never even noticed the time slipping by. Take notes.

Professor Artis is a really great professor who actually takes the time to understand what his students expect from him and makes it clear of what he expects from us. He has great lectures that gives us pointers regarding the course as well things to help us outside of the course. Be prepared to write! Quizzes and exams are all in essay format.

Dr. Artis was one of the most inspiring professors I've ever had!! He not only teaches you valuable information, but he also gives you advice and guidelines every class on how to better yourself and be successful. Definitely be prepared to write a lot for quizzes and tests, but he gives you the topics before each quiz. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!!!

Really enjoyed this teacher and this class. He makes you write for 15 mins at the beginning of class off of readings he assigns you. He provides the question 24 hours in advance so you know what to write about. He does not provide his powerpoints but just write the important things he says. He will usually tell you to write it down so you know to.

Dr Artis is might I say a very intelligent individual. He did not only teach us the subject at hand but made sure we actually understood the concept of sales and customer experience. Dr. Artis is a pretty cool guy. He really cares about the subject matter he's teaching and he really cares about his students. There's a lot of reading & a ton of writing, but none of it is hard. He gives a lot of life/ future career advice, which was really helpful to me.

Makes you think outside of the box. His class is awesome you don't just "learn" from slides and tests aren't just repetitive definitions.

I have never had a professor who cared more about his students. His lectures were not only based on class material but on life advice. If he is teaching any class at all TAKE IT! You have to read articles or a book before a timed essay quiz at the beginning of class. Your writing will really improve! He allows crib sheets on exams. Great teacher!

Dr. Artis really cares about the subject he teaches and his students. He's very clear on expectations & grading. 8x essay quizes (15 min) & 2x essay exams (2 hrs). No ppts; so note taking is important. His lectures are interesting and involves real-life experiences. Your writing and critical thinking will improve. Take him if you have the chance!!

There are reading assignments every week, and a quiz at the beginning of each class based on those readings so be prepared! But, if you prioritize your time accordingly you will do well in this course.

Great guy! He's a subject matter expert when it comes to selling or sales. Learned very much throughout this class that will be used in professional career. Took the summer express class which made it harder for him to teach but the amount of knowledge he shares was still very much worth it. If he's available take him, although may be challenging.

Lots of reading and quizzes but he is great when it comes to your personal goals and is always there to help.

So inspiring and genuine, is so willing to help give you the resources and knowledge you need to prepare you as a student and individual. Gave me the insight and motivation I needed to encourage me to work even harder for my goals and education. Promise you won't be disappointed.

Dr. Artis doesn't just teach the subject of selling to pass, he teaches how selling is used in the actual world. He gives a lot of advice and stories about his experiences. There are articles you have to read with a quiz the beginning of class but he gives you the quiz question 24 hrs before. 2 hour written exam but you get a page of notes. Take!!

Dr. Artist is a very thoughtful professor, and he always cares about his students. Not a whole lot of homework but get ready to read. Taking his class not only you will improve your writing skills but also your intellectuals and critical thinking skills.

I took professional selling with Dr. Artis over a 6 week period. This class was very time sensitive, but you will learn some good things not only for work life, but personal life. Although there was a lot of readings, you can tell that Dr. Artis really cares about professional selling. Would recommend it to everyone having to take this course!

He is a stern but fun professor who is knowledgeable. One of the best in the whole university. As for the IBA class, the best thing to do is get a group earlier with people you can work in stressful situations. Make sure you have a company who wants to work with you on the project and provide you with the answers to the questions you have.

Dr. Artis is the type of professor that you remember as one of the best teachers you ever had. His style strikes a balance between academic, professional, and personal growth; and, this course certainly developed those attributes for me. And even with all the rewarding development, this class was among the most fun.

MBA Capstone Course: your team partners with a local company and researches industry benchmarks to compare client financials and practices. Writing a recommendations report and presentation. Great experience at applied research and translating the MBA program into real world practice. Allowed me realize that I would enjoy a career in consulting.

Dr. Artis is a great prof. for those who are looking to learn rather than just earn their credits. This class requires lots of essays so prepare yourself for carpal tunnel syndrome. The lectures are informative and guest speakers left a good impression on me. However, don't take his word as law there is more to know than just what he teaches you.

Dr. Artis is an expert in his field, helping others. In his class its impossible to not learn something every encounter. There are quizzes every class (at least in summer), but if you do your readings you will do great. Readings are mandatory for passing, quiz grades are attendance and given at the beginning of each class. The best professor yet.

This was by far one of the hardest/higher work load classes I have taken. However, Dr. Artis is very good at motivating students to put in the hours needed to succeed. The class is very lecture heavy and requires a lot of reading, so make sure you are prepared to put in a lot of time and effort if you want to do well.

I took this class in a short summer session so it was very intense. However, Dr Artis is a good teacher and has the knowledge you need to get to the next level. He is a tough teacher but has your best interest in mind. He is just trying to get you prepared for the real world. If you don't want to work though, don't take this class.

I took this class as an elective to fill over the summer and ended up getting more out it than any other course I took all year. Dr. Artis expects a lot from his students and although it was intimidating at first, it really pushes you as a student to do your very best when having a professor who truly cares to see you excel.

Dr. Artis truly believes in his 5 step model on how to teach his students. If you're not a reader, prepare to change your habits and be able to analyze the articles and book chapters he assigns. He is caring and lays out expectations for students and himself as well. Be able to take notes and don't be afraid to ask questions!

Dr. Artis is a well spoken, inspirational professor who has a huge passion for helping students/people succeed. He is a bit of a tough grader, but he gives good feedback which builds your work as the course goes on. The work isn't hard, just make sure you read the articles and take notes.

You better go to bed early, eat large meals, and do meditation before sailing through a semester with Dr. Artis since his class would considerably dissipate time and energy from you. Professor Artis is a great instructor that gets his students to actually learn and retain information. This was a summer class. We read a lot and had an extended response question the next day back, right at the beginning of class. The question is posted at least 24 hours an advance there is no reason to not be prepared! I would take this him again

I took Dr. Artis for Professional Selling. This is a reading-heavy course as well as writing intensive. Dr. Artis does a phenomenal job of being stern/challenging while engaging students and keeping the course relevant to your course of study. He genuinely cares for student success, which can be mistaken for being a difficult professor.

For a 3.5 hr class two times a week Dr. Artis keeps the whole class engaged with relevant information. He does more coaching, rather than teaching. He makes you work for your grade but is excellent in helping his students achieve the knowledge they desire.

Yes, he challenges you at every turn but he doesn't go out of the way to throw curve balls at you like other "tough" professors do. He is an avid, hilarious storyteller in his lectures and is well-respected by the class and makes sure the information is relevant and useful. I honestly wish he taught more undergrad classes so I could learn more.

The only class I've taken that actually taught completely relevant material and made me feel prepared to go out into the real world. I've learned so much more than I ever expected to. He will answer any question you have perfectly: so extremely knowledgeable, but also unbiased and helps you see more than one side. Amazing teacher and person.

This course was my favorite so far. Attendance is mandatory and make sure you arrive early , the first 15 minutes is a quiz every class. I took it in the summer and he was able to captivate the entire class for 3.5 hours. Make sure you do your readings and you will do great!

A lot of information in this class and a lot of reading to do. Dr. Artis is clear in what he expects from his students and how the structure of the class works. I was never surprised by any assignments we had. He prepares you for everything is coming your way. A lot of lecturing however it never got boring! Awesome class.

I have never had a professor care about the future success of their students as much as Dr. Artis does. He has experience in the field he teaches in and has great insights. I took Dr. Artis professional selling course during the summer, although there was a lot of reading and daily quizzes, hes a great professor and you will always be prepared for all quizzes, test, and assignments. Hes very knowledgeable about the topics and provides great feedback on your quizzes and tests so you can prepare for the next one.

Solid professor, a lot of reading. We had to get the book the"challenger" used twice the whole semester. The book is not expensive though.

Dr. Artis is one of the most distinguished sales/business professors you will have the pleasure of taking at the university. Very involved and thought-provoking class that creates a level of thinking I have yet to find in another undergraduate class. If you can make it past the first exam you will not regret the journey you took to make it through.

Listen. Whatever you think about sales and sales people will change after taking this class. First, he lets you know his expectation way before the very first day of class, so check Canvas everyday. Quizzes are everyday before the lectures so make sure to read the articles that's posted. He really helped me LEARN, and I thank him for that. The MAN!

This class is inspiration and I learned a lot from this class. One quiz before the class begins. You must read couple articles before taking the quiz. If you want to get a good grade, you must work hard!

It takes a little while to get the swing of this class, but once you understand what Dr. Artis expects of you and wants out of you-the class makes a lot more sense. I took this class over summer, but I think you'd benefit most by taking him for a full 16 weeks. He challenges you, which gradually develops your analytic/critical thinking skills .

Dr Artis is the best professor I have had in the College of Business. He keeps students engaged throughout long lectures and he genuinely has his students best interest in mind. His experience through his consulting work and research at the university gives him many real-world examples and applications of the content.

Dr. Artis is a professional expert who does everything with intent. The format of the class is different than you'd be used to, there's a quiz every class on article readings, two exams, and a personal improvement plan workshop. Everything is written. It takes some time to adjust but going through this class is well worth it!

Dr. Artis is a very passionate teacher, he seems to grade mostly on volume of what you wrote instead of quality it seemed to me. But that's okay i still learned alot and am now more interested in selling than i already was!

The written essays were stimulating and helped me learned to evaluated articles and being able to write on them articulately! I will definiteLY take him again if I decide to pursue a Masters Degree!

The professor is fair with the grading and gives lots of opportunity to succeed. The professor really know the industry and looks to help out most students. The class is intimidating at first and then progressively gets lighter.

He knows what he's talking about but he drones on too much and puts way too much focus on his lectures as in it's by the book (his word) or else he takes points off. Dr. Artis is such an awesome professor. Yes, it is a lot of reading and a lot of writing but take really good notes on the lectures and you should be fine on the tests. He is a great professor that has a lot of respect for our generation unlike many other professors who think we are entitled. Be very detailed in everything you write!!

Dr. Artis is an expert in his field. He expects a lot of his students but he matches that effort by putting together thorough and quality lectures. You are going to have to work hard in the class, but as a Masters level class that is whats expected. He has a wealth of knowledge and is a great resource. Professors like him make the program valuable.

Although attendance is not mandatory, you wouldn't want to miss a lecture because he gives a lot of insights and he doesn't put his slides on canvas. Be prepared to answer at least 20 questions for each exam in 2h30 mins (in person - on paper). Worth taking his class at the end.
