Wonderful professor. Quiz ?s are right from readings... exams (which are hard) are from quizzes. READ, READ, READ! He goes the extra mile to make sure you pass - quiz replacements, attendence (make sure you go to class - huge part of grade) & DO THE X-TRA CREDIT! Book review- be very very careful, he checks into EVERYTHING! Overall-GREAT prof/class

He was a great teacher and very interesting. His tests were easy as long as you do the study guides, but his quizzes are tough if u don't read the assigment. You should go to class everyday because he randomly takes role call in place of quizzes.

Dr. Austin rocks! He is by far the best professor at UWGB, an asset to the university. Hell I would do my whole degree over just to be able to take his classes again. Take his classes! Freedom and Social control is the best class ever.

WOW. What a wonderful, intelligent and radiant man. His passion, humor and gentle persuasiveness will win your heart. I sat in class agape the entire time enthralled by his lectures, and the theories that were presented. This class will challenge all of your beliefs. EVERY ONE NEEDS TO TAKE THIS COURSE!!!!! Hands down, one of the best courses I hav ever had a UWGB.

Good for an easy A, worthless otherwise. Most of the "teachings" are countered by the teachings of those with real-world experience in the field. I'll take the word of doers over the words of talkers any day, but again, it's an easy A so....your call.

One of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. He is extremely passionate about the subject and is able to give real world examples and answer almost any question you may have about the material. He often e-mails you with additional news articles that relate to the topic. Extremely interesting class...I recommend it!

I agree that you need to prepare to read a lot. He's very hard, being that the material is tough, and the quizzes and exams are even harder. Luckily, he curves and gives 5 free quizzes.

Quirky guy that is really into what he teaches. He knows he is a nerd and embraces it. He loves what he teaches and will try to make you love it too, keeps things interesting and is very very helpful.

Be prepared to read...A LOT and study even more. Prof. Austin is very knowledgable on his subject. However, I felt that he talked above our heads and couldn't follow what he was talking about. Overall, a very hard class but very rewarding when you get your grade.

WONDERFUL professor! so smart, lectures are amazing, i enjoyed going to every single class! it's really hard though, his lectures are relatable and easy to understand but the readings, along with the quizzes and exams, are not. book report is hard to do, but i got an A. be prepared to read, and you MUST go to class if you want an A. i love him!!

I would HIGHLY reccommend taking this class. He is an amazing teacher, and incredibly intelligent. Although this class was for a gen.ed requirement, I learned an immense amount of useful, relevant, and interesting information. Just be prepared to pay attention- after all, you ARE paying for your classes.

Very smart, very interesting class. Pay real close attention to due dates. Reading will help with this class but he gives pretty good notes in class. Very low point system so doing bad on 1 test can sink you...

Best professor EVER! He is brilliant, dedicated and very helpful. The class requirements are high so be prepared to work. Lectures are electrifying. Course content is highly relevant to life outside of school. I highly recommend this class.

Professor restricts writing to chicago style, this wouldnt be a problem, if it wasn't 4 sources in 500-750 words. The class is interesting, and very in depth for an intro level course. Only argument against the teacher is his ridiculous grading and requirements for writing.

Biggest. Vocabulary. Ever. The subject matter is extremely interesting, and so is the professor. He's very intelligent and really funny. His class is a lot of work, but it's also very rewarding if you make an effort and do the reading assignments.

No y professor works this hard to get info to students and to keep them informed of critical issues. Truly exceptional professor - consider it an honor if you get to take one of his classes. Our society would be better off if every student had to take this class. Smart, Smart man.

I liked this professor. Very interesting guy and the class was great (never skipped a day). You'll learn a lot because he makes you think. His tests were easy, but the writing requirement made me a bit nervous. Yeah, he has high standards of what makes a good paper, which is a good thing. My suggestion is that you keep up on the readings.

Really smart teacher and I really liked his class. Sometimes got confused because of the content is advanced. Exams really easy IF you know everything on his study guide which is pretty lengthy. Was interesting to listen to and would recommend taking any of his classes.

This is a very intelligent teacher who understands something deeper about life that many of us miss. If you open your mind and DO THE READING (hint*hint), you will come out of this class enlightened. However, it is ultimately YOU who must do the work to learn and understand.

If you are interested in this field it's a great class. Do NOT take this for a gen ed, he talks in a language that is confusing to people who aren't estatic about the subject. I dropped after 3 days b/c fear for my GPA dropping. Not for a freshman or sophomore

He can be a little all over the place sometimes. He likes what he teaches though and is very engaged. I found sitting in the front row to be less engaging than 2 rows back since he tends to talk over you if you're in the front.

Best professor I have ever had. I am taking my third class with him this upcoming semester and I always leave with a new view on the world. He is very opinionated, but is able to use real statistics to back everything he says. If you can grasp the concept of his lectures then you should easily pass.

DJS 204 was a very interesting class on how social changes through the years have created a system of control through different ideology and institutions created by society. Great class if you find these kind of topics interesting. Very liberal overall so some may not agree with the views presented in this class.

He is a horrible professor. He accuses everyone of cheating before you walk in the door. I dropped my DJS major because of him. He is a awful grader. Do not take.

Andy's classes are a metric ton of reading -- but you will learn EVERYTHING EVER. His lectures are very organized and easy to take notes alongside (he also puts them online). Very funny dude, very particular about his paper's citation styles, and a tough but fair grader. Don't forget about doing your discussions.

Andy Austin is a fantastic human being overall. The syllabus in the class was my only concern, kind of confusing. He is very open to other peoples opinions & really respects other peoples viewpoints. As long as you show up and watch the movies, you will do fine. Decent grader, very personable guy. Often chatted with him about life rather than class

You will read so much in his classes, but all of it is good material that is pertinent to the field of study. You will write very tough papers in his particular format, but it's well thought out and works well too. Read, listen to his lectures and follow his instructions implicitly. Talk to him for feedback. Great professor. Great class.

Austin does not actually lecture in this class very much - there are a lot of guest lecturers. This makes it hard to truly rate him but I had no problems with him in this class. There is a big group project near the end and several writing assignments, but it was interesting and not overly difficult. Some outside events you are required to attend.

Austin isn't a bad professor but I often felt like he talked to us as if we were grad students. The term paper for this class is so detailed and he expects a lot. His lectures are very intelligent and interesting if you understand them, but I found it easy to get lost and/or zone out. He tends to make things more complicated than they need to be.

I thought Law & Society would be relevant- but he made it so mundane and boring, by lecturing the ENTIRE time without using real life examples, just pointing out different sociological theories and who said them (Not even why they matter). Probably have to read the books to do well on the two online exams because class periods are a waste of time.

This professor is not good at teaching. He put assignments on canvas & expected you to know. He does not engage with students. He treats undergrad students as graduate students. I'll be honest, his class is hard and boring. I don't recommend him. Sucks that I will run into him again as a student because he teaches my major. Not recommend! Stay away

This professor is not good at teaching. He does not have many assignments for students to do. I will be honest, I feel like this professor purposely wants his students to fail. I do not recommend him. DJS, SOCIOL, HISTORY majors students will run into him again. If you are not in those majors, stay away from him! I do not recommend him to teach you

This professor is easily one of the best professors I had. I took him the spring 2020 semester when COVID started and I was really bummed out I couldn't attend in person classes anymore because his lectures and insight are amazing! I don't know why he has so many bad reviews, he's great.

Here's what you need to know. Dr. Austin's class is challenging, but if you dedicate yourself to the material, you will learn more than in any other class. You will need to take notes in his class. Dr. Austin is an expert in his field, but he always gives constructive feedback. Your beliefs may be challenged; accept that you may be wrong. Worth it.

This professor is horrible! I GOT A CD (Equivalent to D+, D or D-). I find it easy to get lost in his class. He is not a good instructor! I do not recommend him. To future students, if you choose him to become your instructor, be prepare to become your own mentor. Sad that students majoring in DJS will run into him more. Stay away fellow students!

His objective language is intimidating. Expect no fluff. The only assignment is one research paper. Incredibly boring! Both test based entirely on lectures. Very good communicator. Reach out often. He is known to make students change research topic last minute, make sure to discuss topic before hand. Make a point to get to know him!

Professor Austin will make you work for the grade but when he sees you put in the work, he is very approachable and good with instructions. At first, I was a bit intimidated by him, but I warmed up to him quite quickly. I am sure he disagreed with my final paper, but he was unbiased in the grading, and I really respect him for that.

Worst professor ever!!! He is incredibly rude, and does NOT help students when they are struggling. I will NEVER take a class with him again. All of his classes are structured the same and you have a huge semester project and he is insanely harsh!

Prof Andrew Austin literally has no flavor. He says so much in his lectures without saying anything at all. Be prepared to spend hella coin on books for his courses and not use any of them. His feedback is mediocre at best and he has a policy of not proofreading student papers. I wouldn't say he is a harsh grader he is just lackluster.

Professor Austin is knowledgeable however his lectures are barely palpable and near impossible to keep up with. Many times in these video lectures he will begin talking and never finish a thought. He is the perfect example of why everyone hates Socrates. He can be very critical on your writing ability with disregard for his poor teaching ability.

It's like this guy is setting us all up for failure. In class he just rants about things he thinks in interesting and rarely tells us what to actually study for. Then we're only graded on 3 things. A mid-term, final, and paper. How do I know what I am supposed to study? This is ridiculous and don't ever take him if you can.

I'm sure this professor had many students in the online class, but I didn't receive any sort of personal comments or remarks on any assignment besides the final, where there were just a couple of remarks questioning my work. I didn't like how impersonal it felt, and the course content wasn't for me

You need to be willing to work and willing to learn, but if you are you will be fine! People that fail are not showing up, not taking notes or not trying because it was easy to get an A. He is readily available to help, and very intelligent. He cares about what he is teaching on, and you can tell. I have taken 3 classes with him- all great.

I really like this professor. He knows what he is talking about and is very intelligent. He does not give many assignments so it is not easy to get a great grade, but I learn a lot from him and it is worth taking his class. One of my favorite professors. Also accessible outside of class and will put his students time before his.

Just stands at the front and lectures, difficult to follow along if that is not your style. Only graded on a midterm, final, and a paper. He says things that kind of make sense, then follow it up with the craziest thing ever. I'm surprised I got the grade I did as I and my classmates really struggled. Took CommSci 301 and it was just as bad.

His lectures were genuinely so boring. The slides only had a few things on them, and he was constantly spewing random stuff. His feedback was not helpful at all, it was just him telling you to look it up on a resource he provided. Also, look up his blog if you dare. He just says weird stuff in class and online.

Many people think he is awful, but I took his class to fulfil a pre-rec and I actually didn't mind him.We did only have 4 assignments in the gradebook and I do agree with people that sometimes he gets off topic, but overall I didn't mind having him as a professor

He is prone to going on side ramblings that have little to nothing to do with the material you are learning, it becomes really difficult to know what is important and what is just a rant. He also imposes his personal beliefs constantly, and sometimes takes time away from the actual material to just talk about his political views and biases
