Dr. Bibby is the absolute best. He makes the material easy to remember and includes prezis and videos in his lectures. He makes jokes from time to time and offers a lot of extra credit. Attendance is not optional. The study guides are very easy to follow and only include material that you will be tested on. This is an easy A and you learn a lot!!
it was an alright class. learned a lot though
Dr. Bibby is awesome! He made class interesting and fun. First time I've ever enjoyed any type of American Heritage/history. He gives a crazy amount of extra credit opportunities. His tests are easy, just pay attention in class. Quizzes are open book online, midterms/final in class, but he gives a detailed study guide. You will learn & get an A.
Dr. Bibby is the best! I wasn't excited about taking this class but it's require, so... But- Dr. Bibby made it so much better than I'd ever expected!!! Quizzes are online and open book, tests are in class and there's plenty of extra credit. If you can breathe and read, you can pass, but don't skip class- He's funny, too!
I'm not into American history or politics but this class is the first class that made American history and politics INTERESTING. You cover a lot, but the expectations are clear, and the in-class interactions make it worth going to class. Prezis are funny, and you can learn a lot just being there.
I didn't want to take a large class, but I had to for my schedule. I was surprised to find out it was awesome! Dr Bibby makes a possibly boring-*** subject really interesting and relatable, and keeps the class engaged with Prezi's and jokes. tests are easy if you pay attention and read the book. Definitely take American Heritage with Bibby!
loved him !!!! learned a lot from this class ! provides students with the study guide! easy if you don't miss the classes and do the reading assignments !!!
I really liked this class. The professor was very cooperative and was always willing to answer questions that you had about the material. It was a very easy class.
This class was super duper easy. He's a super nice guy and really wants everyone to do well. The quizzes are online and open-book. He also provides a study guide and it is IDENTICAL to the test. The amount of extra credit he offers is ridiculous. We were supposed to read the textbook everyday, but I never did and I still got an A. Hard to fail.
Interesting and occasionally humorous prezis. Rarely read the book, his lectures typically followed the reading almost exactly. As long as you pay attention, take notes and go to class, you'll do great. He answered questions thoroughly and was always there to help. Made history and politics more interesting than usual. Lots of extra credit too.
Such an AMAZING Professor. I failed this class and I should've passed. I could've gotten a C or a B. Which is why I am so embarrassed. All I had to do was read the book and prepare myself before the Exams. The struggle I had was reading. I was lazy and stubborn. Will be taking his class again though to try and pass. By the SAME Professor. - Amanda
Professor Bibby was one of the easiest professors I took from. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and he always sets up review sessions. If you're looking for an easy A, take this class
Dr Bibby is awesome. He took what could have been a potentially boring subject and made it inspiring and mind blowing. He gives awesome lectures, and provides a lot of helpful resources to help you succeed; things like a TA and study sessions 3 times a week. If you put a little effort, there is no reason why you should not get an A
I wish I would've been able to tag more descriptions for this professor. He is an amazing person. I would take all my classes with him if it would to be possible. He goes above and beyond making sure students succeed in his or in any other class. I would recommend this class or any other class taught by him.
Andy was seriously one of the best professors I've ever had. He takes a genuine interest in his students and is willing to go above and beyond to answer questions and help you to understand. Highly recommend this professor.
He is very personable and understanding, even if you're in a class of 300+ students
I'm currently taking Prof. Bibby for POLS1000, I LOVE this class. I totally geek out to it. He's an awesome educator who truly cares about teaching his students, takes the time to answers our questions and is open to class discussions. He isn't pretentious or condescending like a lot of other professors. HE IS AWESOME. Do yourself a favor sign up.
It's nearly impossible to pay attention in his lectures. He is desperate for class participation so he lets anyone share their ignorant views on politics. He seems fairly liberal himself and is socially awkward.
Dr. Bibby is engaging and knows that it's also possible to learn from listening to other people's "ignorant views." Previous rater is either confused and sitting in the wrong classroom or just foolish.
Dr. Bibby was awesome! His lectures were interesting, and he has a good sense of humor. He likes to add philosophy to history, and help students to understand why things happened like they did. I've gone up to him with questions after class and he is super helpful in explaining in more depth. You can tell he cares about his students!
First off he tries to push his liberal agendas on the class. He also makes the tests way harder than they need to be trying to trick the students and making all the questions like some kind of dumb game. Honest the worst lectures I have ever listened too and I love history but after this I'm not so sure. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one.
He is a great teacher and class is interesting, just don't leave class early and it's a great class.
Political science major. I have taken two of Bibby's classes. He will make some students mad because he makes you think. I find it funny that students have found him liberal. He studied American political thought at a conservative program at Princeton, and loves Lincoln. Wrote a book on capitalism. Not a good class for snowflakes and ideologues
This is a pretty simple class. Show up and listen to the lectures and you will do just fine. The textbook is a helpful thing to have, but he doesn't grade on weather you read it. The book is simply another reference. You will be graded on a handful of tests. He gives a ton of EC opportunities. He's nice and class will be easy if you pay attention.
Tests are fair and easy, if you take notes in class. There is a study guide for each exam. One part I don't like is you do have to take notes to get an A. Dr. Bibby is funny. Love his lectures. Will take again!
To the two students that claim that Dr. Bibby is a liberal, you are entirely mistaken. He is very balanced in class, and if he is anything, he seems conservative. He is an amazing teacher, who really cares about the success of his students. He obviously works really hard to give students the best experience possible. I would take him again!
Dr. Bibby is amazing. What one person called "trick questions" are actually a requirement to pay attention to detail. Bibby requires you to bring your brain, not just mouth breathe. He in no way pushed an agenda- so it really doesn't matter if he's liberal, conservative or centric. He is balanced & fair in his treatment of topics. He's also funny!
Prof. Bibby really knew what he was talking about, but he was a little lecture heavy. Going every day definitely helps, but he just uses power points so it was painful to go sometimes. He has extra credit that helps. His tests and quizzes are extremely important, and he is a nice guy.
Bibby's lectures are interesting and his multi-media is way better than powerpoint. He doesn't just read off the powerpoints, like other profs. It's a 300-person class. It's not like there's an option other than lecture. He is structured and easy to follow. You can't ask for much more than that, and he's super helpful. Lots of ways to succeed.
Andy Bibby is a an awesome professor. He has a real passion for what he does and is very sincere and wants to see you succeed. American heritage is known for being a harder class, but he makes it pretty easy. Reading the textbook helps, but I didn't read all of the chapters and still got an A. Just make sure you know the material.
Honestly if you go to the SI Sessions, class is almost unnecessary, but go for the pointless lectures anyway. I am a person that likes fast-paced interactive classes, and this definitely wasn't that. The book is only good for quizzes. Do the quizzes in study groups, and you will get a good grade. As easy as a high school history class.
Dr. Bibby is an awesome teacher! He gives great lectures with slightly hilarious prezi's! You are only graded on two midterms and a final and a few easy reading quizzes. Plus extra credit papers here and there. Also he does iClicker extra credit! He has study guides for each midterm and final. Honestly this would be a hard class not to pass!
Just finished working with Dr. Bibby at the Center for Constitutional Studies now that I've graduated. He's been great to work with. Butted heads once, but he handled it pretty well in a mature way. Haven't actually taken him as a professor. He's a funny guy and likes to make jokes. Good to work for.
I'm a freshman at UVU. I took Dr. Bibby's American Heritage class. He has great lectures and I might've had a crush on him all semester. Too bad he's married. Will definitely take again. I did pretty well in his class. He's hilarious too.
An amazing guy, and seems very passionate with what he teaches. He is very fair with his testing material, and seems to really want you to do good and enjoy the class.
i would highly recommend you to take this professor. show up every day with your i clicker (for extra credit) and even if you barley skim the chapters just study the study guides well that he gives you and you'll ace them. your grade at least for me was made up of 2 midterms 2 reading quizzes and a final do all the extra credit he offers and A
Professor Bibby is fantastic! The class wasn't very difficult. His lectures are informative and interesting. He lectures using Prezi Presentations which are all available to his students. Best American Heritage professor at the university!!!
This class is okay, not the best, but is a general class to take. Usually in an auditorium with lots of people. Lots of textbook reading. Buy an iclicker for his quizzes because it helps you out on you final grade.
Going to class was pointless. Never had time to cover everything we needed to know, lectures just felt like a supplement to textbook reading. If you just read the textbook, do test reviews, and show up for the tests, you'll be fine. I would recommend getting the etext version of textbook (you can search for any term - makes studying WAY easier).
Dr. Bibby was an amazing teacher! He was very patient and did a great job at answering questions. If he wasn't able to teach something in class, then he wouldn't test us on it. Going to class was pretty important because most of the material on the test was talked about in class. Don't worry though, class is always entertaining. I learned a ton!
Cake class. Just show up, take decent notes and you'll pass easy. He has a SI session the week before his tests, attend one of those and you get a study guide completed with answers. Don't buy the book if you plan on going to the SI session. One negative is there is only around 125 total points, so you cant miss many points.
Dr. Bibby is unlike most political science professors: he gives a ton of extra credit and keeps his own views out of the lectures. Get the iClicker in American heritage, answer the daily question and you'll receive 10% of extra credit. Great class.
The best part of his class is that the review guides that he gives for tests include everything on the test. If you get the guide and have google, you'll know everything that will be on the test. You dont need to go, but it helps to pad your grade even further. He uses the book for quizes, and an iClicker which is a pain to buy.
This class was very lecture heavy, but didn't have a lot of work. He gives extra credit for taking notes and for other things throughout the semester. He gave 2 reading quizes which were open book (or internet). He also gave 2 mid terms and a non-comprehensive final. He gives study guides for these tests. If you do those you will do fine.
He was really good at helping us be ready for the tests. He posted study guides and all of the slides he used were available online
He's a great lecturer. He can be really funny too. It's a really easy class. Make sure you have a book because you can use it on reading quizzes. Exams are pretty simple. There's not a lot of work in this class so if you don't do good on an assignment you're grade will drop by a lot. Just go to class and you'll do good.
Bibby is THE BEST professor!!. There are lectures every class but they are so engaging & interesting. He makes it very easy to understand the material. There are 2 quizzes (open book) you do at home, 2 midterms, and a final. He is BIG on extra credit & wants you to pass. The TA goes over the material in SI sessions held after class (very helpful).
I took this class last semester and it was great!
History isn't my favorite subject but he tries to lecture in a way to help people understand. My biggest appreciation for this professor is that he is empathetic and cares about his student.
Professor Bibby is a well respected and very smart individual. He knows everything about history and gives a good lecture. All you do in class is listen and take notes and there are class debates every now and then. The class is very chill but you do need to either read the books or come to class to pass. Pop quizzes, tons of extra credit.
Dr. Bibby was great. The class itself wasn't super interesting, but Dr. Bibby made it tolerable. There was very little homework, just a few online quizzes that came straight from the book. His tests were a little challenging, but nothing too bad. Study your notes and you should be just fine.
I didn't learn much in this class, at least not in the class itself. I learned everything from the textbook, even though each class is a 50 minute lecture. In the lectures he talks about history, but none of it shows up on the test, each test is comprised completely of info from the textbook and the tests are really hard.
If you skip his class, you miss points for the iClicker as well as material for the test. I didn't purchase the textbook but I take good notes which is working out fine for me. For tests, the study guide consists of at least 100 questions which are not straight forward answers, they are paragraphs long. In the end, only 30ish questions are tested.
Not my favorite of classes. Andrew Bibby is a great guy and highly respected, but the class itself is not too engaging. You will get an A if you go and do the iClicker, take some notes, and just go to the review sessions for the exams. If you can memorize a study guide then you will do just fine in the class. Textbook is hardly used at all/
I love Prof. Bibby. He cares a lot about his subject and his students. You are graded on coming to class, but I loved his lectures and would've gone anyway. There's pretty much no homework, just assigned reading, and a lot of test questions come from the book. He's funny, and a really sweet guy. I'd definitely recommend him.
His lectures were very well prepared and he kept things interesting. He does "waffle" on a bit and some of his discussions don't relate to the textbook or tests but his anecdotes made the topic more relatable and made the relevant info "stick". He was very approachable and seemed genuinely concerned with our success and gave extra credit often
One of the easiest classes I have ever taken... ever... of all time... tests are done in class and are multiple choice, there is a book that the he collaborated with other professors to make specifically for this course, but its not really that necessary, the study guide before the tests help immensely along with proper note taking .
If you take advantage of the extra credit and SI sessions then the class will be very easy. I didn't buy a text book and fell asleep in many lectures but I did almost all the extra credit (each pt is a whole % at the end of the semester). Also I went to all the test review SI sessions, that gets you very prepared for the test. And do the Iclickers.
Good class. I don't dig American history but got an A and learned a lot. Prod Bibby is smart and will help you if you feel stuck
Take American Heritage with Bibby. Course has some challenging readings, but easy tests. You can tell he loves his job. Pols 1000 is also a little different than when we took it. Grading is more clear and you can get an A with reasonable amount of effort
Well I mean he was a good and nice teacher I honestly just did NOT learn a lot and I barely passed with a C so.. I definitely think he's tough on grading, he also makes you write hard papers that half the time don't make any sense. I mean if you're into history take his class. But the iclickers aren't worth the money I paid for them.
How to get an A in this class- Go to lecture, go to SI sessions, and do the extra credit. Put in a little time and its a super easy class. Andrew sometimes goes on tangents but is mostly good. He loves and knows a ton of history. I really like his jacket
Prof Bibby is an amazing teacher who actually cares about his students. His classes aren't hard to pass and you learn a lot at the same time. He's one of the few teachers that I've felt like actually cares about my success at UVU but also for the future as well. Would highly recommend his classes for anyone who wants to do well and learn a lot.
Political Theory is a great course. Andrew knows what he's talking about. You only have to buy 2 books at the beginning of the semester (each about $15). Your grade is based on two exams, two papers, and participation/attendance is only 10%. This class makes you think and lots of great discussions.
Professor Bibby cares so much about his students that takes time to remind students what is coming up and opportunities in class, through emails just about daily. He makes class fun. Gives lots of extra credits opportunities, SI classes to review, and possibilities to do open book quizzes with friends. To get the most from his lectures read ahead.
He is a really good guy and genuinely enjoys what he does. His class is a fun class and I don't dread going to it. You definitely need to read and read as you go but as long as you do that and go to class, you'll easily pass. He also gives a lot of extra credit if you're willing to do it
If you come to class and participate in discussions you'll do well. There is no homework other than your normal textbook reading. There are Reading quizzes based on the book and lectures, and the big midterm and final, but that's it. The rest of your grade comes from going to every class. He is great at teaching in a way that everyone understands.
LOVED American Heritage, I would take it again just because it was so engaging. It was a large class but ideal- I loved the lectures. Professor Bibbys' attitude toward teaching as well as his passion for the material- made this class ideal for me. Take it. you will not regret it in the slightest.
I do not like the way he teaches. He told us in our class that we wouldn't need to memorize any dates or names of people. Then on tests he asks us, who wrote this book and when. He also wastes most of the class time rambling, then since we have no time he skims through everything. Which leaves me so confused. His study guides are not helpful.
Loved American Heritage, and also took his Ideologies class. Bibby cares about the class and students and it shows. He is sometimes hard to get a hold of. But he makes time for you after class. Great teacher
Professor Bibby seems like a good guy, and cares about what he's teaching, but he's extremely boring and just reads off of slides. This topic can be boring already but It seems like no one is paying attention.
He cares a lot about what he teaches. I received 11% extra credit in his course. I really struggled to focus in his lectures. Most of his grading is based off of test. STUDY! No homework is given and reading isnt required, if you dont read you are in TROUBLE on exams. I did well, but really dont feel I learned much, due to my struggle to focus.
He is a good dude. He is nice and kind. Honestly though- suuuuper boring. It's hard to be invested in the class and I'm a good student. But the class itself is stupid easy. He said it day one, if you have a heart beat you can pass. He was serious. You should have an A+ with how easy his tests are and how many extra credit opportunities there are
Bibby is a great professor, however he sometimes goes on tangents during his lectures and if you are taking this as a gen. ed you will get lost during those moments. I wish I would have read my textbook more, especially before class so that I could ask more questions. He says the test questions are pulled from the study guide. but they aren't.
Nice guy, but worst class. His lectures had nothing to do with what he actually put on the test, he made us all buy his $100 textbook that he wrote and it was ridiculously big, and all showing up to class got you was .5 of a point if you answered a clicker question. Not worth taking this class the way he teaches it...
Bibby is... interesting. His class is very boring, and only graded be a few things. But its an easy A if you show up and try to pay attention. He offered a bunch of extra credit.
Bibby's lectures, while sometimes long-winded, are very informational. He's always willing to answer questions and talk with the class, even if it results in a tangent or two. You need to use an i-clicker everyday which is kind of a bummer, but there are only like, 4 tests/quizzes and they're very straight forward. This is a great, low-stress class
For a political science class this was great and kept me interested. He knows his stuff. The exams are based on lectures and a study guide
I never bought the textbook and got by just fine. There's lots of extra credit opportunities and some teacher aides that are very helpful. You're practically babied through the entire course so you'd have to be pretty lazy to fail. The final study guide had nothing to do with the final, so just take good notes and study them and you'll be fine.
Dr. Bibby was interesting, He didn't seem to know the subjects too well. he made us by his book which we only ever used like few times. His quiz's were ridiculous, in general he's not the best history teacher, pretty sure I fell asleep multiple times. DOn't take this class unless you want to sleep.
Worst class ever the way he taught was pointless and didn't have anything to do with the subject, he made us all buy his $100 textbook that he wrote which not helpful at all. He also made us buy clickers which were only used like 5 times throughout semester. Strongly recommend not taking him again. Felt like a waste of time in his class.
Attendance is not technically mandatory. If you don't attend lectures, you will not be able to participate in i-clicker quizzes. It's only worth 10% of your grade, and there are extra credit opportunities. Lectures are uploaded online. Study guides are helpful. Quizzes and exams were easy. If you read the book, you will get an A.
Prof. Bibby is AMAZING. He is interesting, and definitely makes getting an A for a required course possible. He puts work into his lessons and answers all questions that you have. Reading the book is recommended, but if you take really good notes that is 95% of what he tests on. He has tests and group tests, but he preps you for everything
This class made American history and politics fun again. I thought u would hate American Heritage. Class is engaging, and he has clear expectations. He will work with you after class. Most of all he leaves politics out of class and just clearly loves teaching. Subject is sometimes a slog but lectures can be funny or shocking which helps...
Really easy to understand, and hardly any homework. I went to class and took notes on his lectures and the tests and quizzes were really easy for me. He's funny and entertaining too!
Professor Bibby was probably my favorite professor I had this year. He always made sure his lectures were interesting and applied directly to what was going to be on the test. Attendance really helps your scores, but it isn't mandatory. He always offers A LOT of extra credit (up to 12%). Would take a class from him again.
Lectures every class and iclickers about once a week. Class can be a little boring but Dr. Bibby is a great person and tries to keep it interesting. He offers tons of extra credit opportunities and is always willing to help. I bought the textbook which I rarely used but it was nice to have for quizzes.
Plenty of extra credit opportunities, and attendance is completely optional. If you go you'll do very well on the the tests, which is crucial because that is your entire grade essentially.
It helped to go to class for the lectures, but really you just had to keep up with the readings. It was a lot of reading but there was only 2 reading quizzes, the midterm and the final that he graded on. He offered extra credit too. You definitely had to get the book because the reading quizzes referred to specific pages. A lot to memorize.
Bibby was awesome! Very down to Earth and personable. His class was super easy. Attendance was not mandatory. You could never go to class, just skim the textbook and study the study guide for an easy A. There were several opportunities for extra credit. Textbook was only required for 2 reading quizzes which together were 40% of our grade.
Professor Bibby is my Absolute Favorite teacher. And I'm not a political science major. His Lectures are the Absolute best. I'm actually kinda sad the semester is over. I have severe ADD and I had no problem paying attention during the whole lecture even without my meds. Also no papers is a plus, as I don't like writing. Only homework is reading...
Prof. Bibby is so funny! He knows his stuff about American Heritage, and is more than happy to answer any questions. I bought his textbook, but didn't end up using it. He has few grades, but gave the opportunity for a TON of extra credit. There are two take-home quizzes, and the midterm and final are in class. He's awesome and understanding. 10/10
Hes super nice and funny. Gives you the oppurtunity to get up to 12% extra credit which was super nice! His test werent comprehensive thank goodness! I bought the textbook but literally only opened it once which kind of bugged me that we had to buy it. Overall I would recommend though!
Professor Bibby is super solid. Very interactive and made classes pretty interesting. The only assignments were in class iClickers, so you had to do well on the tests to pass. Tests weren't too bad, but you definitely need to read the textbook because there are a couple tests that are only on reading. But I'd recommend this class
Bibby is a great & clearly professional speaker. Does a great job of mixing things up in class so that it doesnt get daunting. You get iclicker questions just to check attendance. But if you don't do those he offers up to around 12%(yes 1 whole letter grade) of full extra credit points. He truly wants his students to succeed with knowledge & grades
Very large class size makes attendance tracking impossible. He does do iClicker quizzes that you need to be in class for to receive credit but there is extra credit to make up for those points if you dont do it. He explains things very well and makes his slideshows available. Only graded on midterm, final, and 2 reading quizzes that are open book.
This is the best teacher at UVU! He has made this course fun and interesting but also he is so helpful and cares about his students. He is the best dude ever! He wants everyone to successes I would recommend him highly and take all his classes. This is the real deal dude.
His class was amazing! He's a great presenter and very entertaining. We only had 2 quizzes, then a mid-term and final. The quizzes were pretty easy if you'd been paying attention in class. He did offer extra credit opportunities as well. I would totally take a class by him again!
Not going to lie, this was the easiest college class I have ever taken. I had to take this class for credit and it was so nice to have a more layback class with all my other important classes. The teacher understands that we have other classes, work and life outside this general class and makes it a little more layback.
Professor Bibby was a joy to listen to. He made history really interesting and funny. I would absolutely take it again.
Professor Bibby is amazing! Like Seriously. It is a lecture class but he makes it really entertaining and fun. He cares a lot about his students and wants you to succeed. It is a lot of reading with a few quizzes, a midterm and final that are open note (when online and during the pandemic). He is so willing to work with you which was awesome!
Andrew is such a cool teacher. You will read a lot of books for this class, but they are all very entertaining. Andrew really just wants you to get the big picture and remember the big ideas. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.
This whole course was made up of two reading quizzes, a midterm, and a final. All of which are extremely easy. They are all open book so you could just look at the book for all the tests and easily find the answers without even doing any of the reading, BUT if you are interested in political ideologies it's very interesting reading.
Really cares about the subject, kind of tough online but Id imagine its lots of fun in person.
I absolutely loved Professor Bibby! He is so funny, and caring. He is very laid back and knows that students have other classes and work outside of his class. His class is very easy, it consists of 2 online reading quizzes (which are open note), a midterm (which is one of the easiest tests I've taken, and a final (which isn't comprehensive). 5/5!
Professor Bibby is an amazing teacher!! Attending isn't mandatory, all his prezi's from his lectures are online, reading quizzes are open book (there's only two), get the study guide for mid-term and final about a week before the tests, and besides that maybe two or three assignments outside of that for the whole semester that are easy. Good class.
Prof Bibby posts recordings of each lecture on canvas, so if you miss class you can watch it to catch up. He also posts all his Prezi presentations on canvas. He had two instructional assistants that hosted study guides for the midterm and final. This year (2021) the textbook was available as a free pdf to download which was so convenient.
Great professor. SUPER EASY class. If you struggle with US history you will pass. If you are really good at US history you will really pass. Simple lectures, easy tests, super great guy.
Prof Bibby genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. SUPER EASY A. Graded by two reading quizzes, a couple Canvas discussions, and a midterm and final exam. He gave study guides for the exams, from which all exam questions were taken.
Bibby has got to have been the easiest professor I ever had. I opened the textbook maybe twice and showed up to one study session (accidentally), ended up getting like a high B or low A on the final after showing up about 45 minutes late. His lectures are pretty entertaining though, and if you took AP US History the class is absolutely no problem.
This is probably the most difficult class I have taken at UVU. The content of the course is pretty difficult because it is all philosophy. He grades decently fairly but has few things in the grade book. Good professor and wants us to succeed. Hard content but a good professor and I genuinely learned a lot in the class.
He's very down to earth and is always willing to talk after class. He teaches exceptionally well. If you pay attention in class and take good notes, you'll pass.
Although the lectures are long and all over the place, you could tell he really cared about the topic.
Prof. Bibby was very easy, and we never really had any homework besides reading. Quizzes were open book and easy. Exams were multiple choice and didnt require a lot of studying to get a good grade on. Personally, I didnt enjoy his teaching style and often found it difficult to follow along with his lectures.
Professor Bibby is a good guy, but not the best professor. He doesn't teach clearly when he lectures, and he speculates a lot when he should just be teaching the content. He knows a lot about history, but he isn't very skillful at conveying it as a teacher. He's a really laid-back professor, but I feel like I didn't learn anything from this course.
History is not my thing but this course is one of the best GE classes. The textbook helps a lot as he tries to get class engaged in discussion.
most boring class i've ever taken. I dreaded nothing more this semester than sitting through this class. It is really easy. But the course is literally graded off 4 assignments. only pro: no homework. I got strep the day before the final and he tried to give me an incomplete for the class... I came in and took it anyway. Hope he likes being sick!
Bibby is the absolute best. I really loved his class.
Great teacher. Always open to give more advice and cares about his students.
On the midterm if you made simple grammatical errors, they were not counted. The focus was if you understood the curriculum. The reading quizzes were quite easy as they followed the exact wording from the books. Although there were 4 or more books, I will definitely be keeping them. No other assignments really. Lecture heavy.
Prof Bibby is seriously the best! We were constantly engaged in primary sources and the lectures were great supplements! He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is passionate about the material and is VERY smart and refreshingly objective. I hope I get to take a class from him again! 10/10
Professor Bibby was great! His whole course was a lecture course. His class was super easy, but he didn't give out any assignments (aside from the midterm, and final) so if you bombed one of the tests you were pretty much screwed. Just pay attention in class you should be fine.
Super good at doing lectures, always very professional.
You can tell he enjoys the subject. He has great lectures. Make sure to attend class and read the textbook, as the midterm and final are multiple choice from the readings and lectures. Don't underestimate this class.
One of the best professors in this school. He cares about this subject and he cares about you. Bibby wants you to succeed. He is willing to help you out whenever you or he can. His lectures are also super engaging, and as long as you follow his calendar (which is very easy btw) you will not fall behind.
Dr. Bibby is such a good professor! He makes lectures entertaining and he is super passionate about the course! The only assignments he gave for this class were reading quizzes (which he gives you plenty of notice and they're open note) and exams. A pdf for the textbook is listed on CANVAS so you won't need to worry about purchasing it.
His lectures were very helpful, and in fact they were better than the textbook. He always stated things clearly and easy to understand.
Great class. Only 4 assignments, all multiple choice quizzes/tests. Quizzes were open book. Plenty of review sessions, study guides, and extra credit. Book was free on Canvas. Insightful lectures. When he didn't know the answer to a question, he would research it later that day and send out the answer over Canvas. Highly respectable professor.
Dr. Bibby is a good professor. I just didn't like his style personally. He makes you pay for an app to take the attendance but at least you don't need to buy the textbook. His IAs were nice. He doesn't leave homework, you will just have 2 open book Reading Quizzes from home. Midterm and Final in class closed book. I feel like I didn't learn a thing
Dr Bibby is my favorite professor at UVU. His lectures are passionate, nuanced, and the subject matter is engaging. Though this class is relatively easy, take it seriously, as you will gain many interesting insights about America and its history. Go chat with Bibby after class for some great academic conversations. He loves to talk shop.
It's a lecture class, with little to no engagment activities. Good job approaching subject from novel angles. Upfront about potential polarization. However, tests were challenging. Rarely posted study guides/tests on time. Not a bad class, handled subject well, but teaching style was not my thing.
This was by far one of the hardest general classes I've ever had to take. Your whole grade will be reliant on two quizzes and two huge exams. He also changes the difficulty of the exam based on how much he thinks the class knows which caused many of us to struggle. If taking this be prepared for dedicating all time to studying
Professor Andrew Bibby is hands down the best professor I have ever had in my academic journey. His passion for teaching and deep understanding of political science make every lecture engaging and insightful. He creates a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to participate and think critically.
Although there was a lot of reading, it was easy to digest, and Dr Bibby is a fantastic lecturer who will help you understand whenever you get stuck/confused. He is so friendly, funny and personable. I highly respect Dr Bibby.
Really nice and keeps the class fun. Overall an easy class if you just show up.
Advice: Don't take traditional notes, put everything into flashcard form on Quizlet. The tests are all about memorization so "normal" notes won't help you that much. Other than that, Bibby is great -- you're in good hands.
Dr. Bibby is the best! You learn so much in his class, and he makes what you're studying super accessible. He dives deep into the texts and you finish the course having learned more than you ever thought. Take notes, do the readings, and follow his pacing, he gives great lectures and loves to talk after class. If you put in the work you'll do well.
Dr. Bibby was incredible. There are a lot of readings in his class, but most of them are pretty brief and they're all interesting (if you like history). He includes jokes and memes in the readings, so they're entertaining as well. There are four tests throughout the semester, two of which are open book. His lectures are interesting and applicable.
