The best teacher I've ever had. He's cool, easy, explains things well, and is really funny.
I can't believe how much ass this guy kicks... probably the best teacher I've had yet in college.
OSU is not fully experienced unless you have a class with Dr. Blaustein. It's equal parts biology, gameshow and comedy hour.
Funny, but arrogant as any other published science guy.
Very hard, but keeps it interesting. Who would have know that frogs could have so many deformaties.
He was a great professor, and by far the best that I have had. He explained things well and spiced up the information with a bit of his sense of humor. It was nice to see that one of our professors was making waves in the media. I really liked him.
I am a grad student who took his undergrad BI 211 course. Undoubtedly the funniest human being I've ever encountered. His teaching was not spectacular (mostly pictorial and lacking details) but his final was easy. That's all that counts.
Hands down one of the best prof.'s on campus. I wish he taught more classes.
a dose of reality in an unforgettable kind of way. i'll never forget the picture he showed in class of the large parasitic worm being pulled from a child's ass or the man with a lymph blockage in this testicle causing it to swell to the size of a cat.
If you know the notes on the web, you'll ace the final. Be sure to go to class because the final includes material from some of the GORY pictures he displays. Very entertaining guy...only drawback is that he's supremely egotistical, like most scientists.
Entertaining and funny at times. Good teacher. He wears sunglasses at most occasions.
He is strait up the man! Even his tests are fun (as fun as a test can be).

I have to say that Dr. Blaustein is by far the most intriguing person. He is easy to talk to and get help from (I don't know why someone thought he wasn't, the door is always open). Your attention is always help no matter how tired you are.

Great teacher! He let's you know during lecture exactly what's going to be on the test. Very helpful with understanding the material. Great visuals.
Decent teacher, but sometimes tries to teach politics in a bio class.
He is egotistical, but amusing. Likes to throw in his opinion about everything going on in the world not realted to biology. Don't bother doing the reading, just use the notes he posts on the web.
Very straightforward. He tells you whats going to be on the test, and whats not going to be on the test. great teacher.
He speeds through lectures: "Here's a bird, another bird, another bird" Spending about 1 sec. on each slide. If you don't need to be anal about notes, take this teacher he's great! If you do, don't take this teacher he'll drive you crazy. His exams are straight forward, simple, he plays no tricks.

He's an awesome teacher and always keeps his lectures interesting. Goes through material fast during lectures, but it'd posted online so you can go just read those. Very funny and approachable
he was definately an interesting teacher and had some cool lectures.... although he likes to ask test questions that give a..b...c... a AND b, or a AND c.... a word of advice... make sure you turn your cell phone off...or else it may become acquainted with the wall. trust me on this....
This is one funny dude, but its really hard to follow his lectures cause he's all over the place. He wrote the final and it wasn't so bad. Just gotta review your stuff. Also, don't fall asleep in the bottom of Milam Auditoriam, he'll get you for it. Believe me from experience.

Writes final..Contact him and go to his review session. Makes a difference. Don't practice old exams..waste of time. Study phylums and specifics!! Listen to things he says over and over...

He is the only teacher that can lecture and not put me to sleep. I really enjoyed his class but found it sort of difficult, trying to figure out what to study for the test and my notes were kind of a mess... He tries to keep you interested and he is really funny :)

If you miss one of his lectures, you should be sad cause they are almost as entertaining as TV. You should also feel sad cause he gives away test questions. He turns scary when a cell phone rings. TURN OFF CELL PHONE!!!

Goes through a good deal of material quickly, but all the test info is from lectures, don't bother with reading the book at all. Very entertaining lectures, but class is made up of a lot of trivia. Overall just study the notes and you will be fine...
Lectures are a blast with him, but don't expect his tests to be that easy--some questions are very tricky. Sometimes he is unclear on what to study (review lecture was not very good).
Funny guy and entertaining lectures but can be misleading. He says certain questions will be on the test, but does not put them on. Leads you to believe test will be much easier than it is. Also, tells you not worry about reading and to only study lecture, however some test questions were only covered in reading.
A funny teacher who tells you what will be on the test. Liked his lectures because of the unexpected music for a different learning style. Interesting guy.
Sure he's funny and all, but how much did I learn? Absolutely nothing. However, I did see a lot of pictures of fish, birds, etc. I once asked him to explain something on a practice problem, and he had the nerve to tell me that he would not help. Bad attitude and cares nothing about his students.

Humorous. Lectures are far from boring. Likes to discuss biology research in the media. Don’t bother to print out his slides. Most are pictures. He will tell you straight up what he will never ask you on the exam and some questions that you can expect to see. Practice final made available without answers.

Moved way to quickly with lectures, information that we needed to learn was unclear. Did not seem to care much about people understanding his lectures.
His lectures are more like general information sessions...nothing too technical. Basically, you just need to know what's in the Powerpoint slides to do well on his EASY test. He is way better than most others teaching BI 21x series. Blaustein has a tremendous sense of humor and it keeps everyone interested and engaged.
He is a funny guy, but he doesn't teach you anything. Just a bunch of trivia and comedy. Seems proud to have been voted as the 2nd worst scientist in the world.
If you're taking the class just to get the grade, easy A with Blaustein, his final is ridiculously easy if you go to his lectures. He goes through his slides pretty quickly and skips the "unimportant" info - basically what will not be on the test. Lectures are enjoyable but you'd be fine just reading the book.
Really easy tests-make sure you do the practice exam.
Blaustein wasn't that great of a professor, but his test was fairly easy. You definitely need to attend his lectures, and takes notes. He does post his PowerPoints though. He jokes around a lot and thinks he's pretty funny. It was difficult to know what to study, and his PowerPoints were not very good at all, but his test was straightforward.

Overall the class was alright. He isn't very organized and he thinks he's really funny, and sometimes he is but it gets old. His slide shows have so many slides with a lot of useless information. You should attend the lectures, they're not boring because he is entertaining, but it's kind of hard to know what to study and what not to
HILARIOUS! He made his expectations clear, and he made the material interesting, relatable, and fun. If Blaustein taught more in the BI 21X series, I would give the department head a huge hug. I can only dream...

Very funny and entertaining. A bit disorganized though. It wasn't made clear what would be on the final. You don't need to read the book. Try to attend class, but not a big deal if you miss. He posts the powerpoint.
He's funny, so if you want to go to class and be entertained, he's fine. If you're expecting him to actually teach you something, you'll probably be disappointed. Lectures are disorganized, generally superficial, exams poorly written. He's a pathology guy, so be prepared to hear about awful diseases and parasites at every opportunity.
Funny, yes, but informative... not really. You'll want to stop going because he'll only tell you about awful diseases. You won't learn much. Look at the Powerpoints - that's the most you'll learn from this guy. Disappointing - I wanted to learn something. Very poorly written final. If you want to learn, or prepare for future BIO, try to avoid.
Decent teacher. Exam is pretty straight forward and covers a lot of parasites and diseases as that is his research focus, so make sure you know those well. Overall interesting and really funny guy, I was able to pull a strong A on his exam with some solid studying.
1 of the best teachers i've had. loved his powerpoints. he didnt just read frm the slide & they were entertaining w/ pics. he was very funny & nice. wanted his students to pass the class w/ an A or B. Tests were not that hard. Def recommend him for Animal Behavior.
Moved too quickly through the slides, but is a funny guy. He knows a lot of information, but it is unclear what will be on the tests.
When I am confident that I could teach a class better than the professor, I don't recommend them. This is the case with Dr. Blaustein. I'd like to have a beer with the gentleman, sure, but I'd like someone more straightforward and serious teaching me Biology. Learning taxonomy is no fun, and when the lecturer wastes your time it's even worse.
I don't understand why everyone applauded after our last lecture, but didn't do so for Dr. Fowler, who taught the first half of the class. Dr. Blaustein puts little effort into teaching. His powerpoints are poorly constructed and he generally lacks clarity. "Here's a fish, here's an amphibian, here's Rush Limbaugh." I'm not kidding, this guy stinks
Dr. Blaustein is quite entertaining despite being the "2nd worst scientist in the world." However, he puts forth an average effort as a professor. In turn students put forth an average effort on studying for his exam. As a result they get an average grade and give him an average rating.

Listen to lectures. I didn't open the book once and I managed to get an A. Anytime he says "this will be a test question," he isn't joking, it will be there, so LISTEN. He will repeat himself a lot, so pay attention to the things he says/pictures he shows you over and over, those will be on the test too. Test was really easy, and he's pretty funny.

He's not a bad guy, maybe a little scary. But he does tell you directly what is going to be on the test. Make sure you understand all examples and listen carefully to his lectures. Book is not needed because he puts everything on slides.
Easy to understand. Know the examples he uses through and through. Funny, but a little intimidating when he goes off on tangents. Best advice, attend EVERY lecture.
I respect him as a researcher but I was a bit disappointed in his lecture style. He spends a lot of time just showing pictures of animals. He goes too fast to take good notes. Upside- he's very clear about what will be on the exam and repeats important things incessantly. I finished feeling I should have learned more during lecture.
If he wants you to know something for the test, he'll clarify it so that even a baby could remember. Very straightforward instructor, very interesting. Exam was quite easy, but you must study for it to be so.
Brooklyn style grit and wit. 1/3 - 1/2 of lecture is information dense, the rest is meant to help you find what interests you by showing many many many pictures of animals.
The lectures were very interesting and Blaustein is hilarious. He lectures on stuff that is relevant to life and current issues.
Great professor however, you MUST go to class and pay very close attention to what he talks about.
Dr Blaustein can seem very rude and intimidating at first, but by the end of the course you can tell he actually enjoys teaching students and loves talking about his own research areas. His lecture slides are really sparse, and what he presents doesn't match what is on canvas. His whole portion of the class is based on the final, but is fair.
Super great, extremely clear on what will be on final. Hes very passionate about what he teaches and is by far the funniest prof Ive ever had
Dr. Blaustein taught the second half of BI211. He taught the material super quick and probably spent a second or two on every slide. While the material is easy and he presents it in a funny mood, it is too quick and I feel like I didn't learn much from him. Just make sure to pay attention whenever he says "this will be on the test."
