Good prof. Always available to help outside of class. Always there to clarify anything. Doesn't use book so kind of have to depend on him to find information sometimes.
He took a lot extra time if you need the help. He was a good guy too.
Really nice professor - once I saw him riding his bike home and he remembered me from class and waved. Tests are a little challenging but just make sure you understand the material and you'll do great!
Nice and easy. Incredibly easy. I swear one day he taught us how to divide 6 into 57 by drawing a picture. Too easy? Perhaps. Good for GURs, though.
Hmf. Kind of patronizing sometimes and he talked too quietly. Hmf.
He rushed through his lectures extremely quickly and wasn't too terribly helpful. If you went to office hours, he would help you, but otherwise he didn't adequately answer questions. I agree that he is patronizing at times. He is also very quiet and shy. He would be better at teaching little kids.
he is a little condescending when you ask him questions. is cute in his own little way.
Such a sweet guy, very helpful and really cares about helping you out, totally encourages you to come in for help. Tests were surprisingly difficult, but very he's very understanding and reasonable. nice guy, adorable in his own way
doesn't make you buy a book (only an $8 lab manual), which is, in a word, sweet.
Boudreaux always checks for understanding and if someone doesn't get something, he'll go over it again and explain it some more. I found this class to be easy, and I had no background in physics. No book, just worksheets. If you come to class each day and pay attention you'll do well.
Was expecting the class to be hard, just like any other lab, but found the class to be extremely easy. only a few homework assingments, and there was no book to read. Just work sheets from class. You do have to go to class to take the "pre-tests", and to get the main points of the worksheets.
his demonstrations in front of class took forever for him to set up and were usually not helpful. i thought his lectures were boring and didn't prepare you for the tests - which were really hard. not a good lecturer, belongs at a middle school not a university.
This class was so easy I found it hard to make it up in time (it was at 10:00). Boudreaux is a nice guy who seems really concerned with making sure everyone understands. Great way to kill off a science GUR.
It was a GUR, but take it through this guy! No text book just make sure you go to class becuase everything is done in there. There is no book to catch up on. Willing to help, wants to make sure everyone learns the material.
Does a good job of teaching the concepts before introducing the math. Just be sure to go to class, his lectures are important and worth going to.
He wouldn't leave me alone, there were plenty of B or C students in need of his assistance, and me (I got an A) didn't want it at all, nor did I need it and he wouldn't leave me alone. He stood over my shoulder during lectures and watched me in lab.
Boudreaux was amazing!!! He gets super into teaching physics and really cares if we understand the material. His class and antics were definately enjoyable.

This was one of the worst classes I have taken at Western. There is no textbook and not much of a lecture to go off of. Questions asked/discussed in class are answered by students, and he refuses to clarify or answer questions himself. Unless you are extreamly good at figuring things out on your own and don't need a teacher or a text book, stay away from this class!
He was an effective, smart, funny, and clear proffesor. He always answered questions and stayed late. Everyone should take this class and make sure that they always ask for help if they need it! I got a good grade and I suck at Physics!
What can I say......be careful, maybe not what you would expect after reading most of the reviews from his 101 students.
If you're looking to get a science GUR out of the way, boudreaux is the way to go. Extrememly easy class as long as you pay relative attention to the lecture and do the review problems before each test. He knows that no one in 101 really cares too much about physics so he tries to make it as easy and as related to everyday concepts as possible.
B---(spelling?) is what I would call an "ideal professor." He forces people to understand the material, is very cognizant of students' abilities and his tests are SIMPLE if you go to class and study the online test preps.
He tries to make the concepts too easy, which is very confusing. I doubt he's had a date in a couple years, he just frusturates me and I would not suggest taking this class if you have any physics background or are halfway intelligent with mathematics. He acts like every concept needs to be talked about for a couple days before actually using it.
He was incredible. I would totally recommend him to anyone.
VERY Basic course, doesn't teach - asks questions and has the class discuss among themselves, wasted class time setting up experiments. His tests are worded horribly, no clear answer to questions, when you ask him a question he says he can't answer or it will give the answer away. Not worth taking unless you need an easy GUR. Pointless to attend.
How can you say his class was easy? His lectures are clear but his tests are difficult (NOT like the practice problems) and tricky. Very stingy on curving, the class average for the Multiple choice portion of the final was a D- / F and the test before (before he curved it boy a measly 3 points) was in the D's as well
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!! He even tells the class that he knows he is not good at teaching. Incredibly difficult tests, there is a curve but it hardly helps. Tests are nothing like what is discussed in class. Not good at explaining concepts. Does not even teach, always asks the class ?s. Gets mad & frustrated if you don't understand.
He obviously was trying too hard and made the class far too difficult for being a 101 class. He didn't prep for labs at all but then asked questions about them on the tests. Never very clear, he likes to let the class discuss rather then lecture. A very nice guy and smart, but graded too hard. I'm an A student and I really struggled in this class.
This class would be really easy but he just makes really hard questions. If you know what you are doing this class isn't too bad. I already have had physics classes and I remembered most of the stuff. Don't take this class with this teacher unless you know physics already.
Assigns a lot of homework, half of which is online and is confussing at times. The tests are a combination of really easy questions and one difficult free response questions. Attendance in class is basically mandatory because he has participation assignments.
I'm taking the series with him and I want to shoot myself. Very monotonous, boring, poor at alternate explanations, textbook on tape.
Such a nice prof, really clear in lectures, no textbook just worksheets in class so you need to attend lectures. Labs are fairly easy, 3 tests and i think 5 hw assignments(?).
I thought he was a pretty good teacher, he gives us worksheets to work on with partners in class, which made it clear what you would need to study later and what was going to be on tests. But, he also asigns a lot of homework (online and written) and has pretty hard tests. I probably spent 6hrs a week studying, even more on test weeks.
Prof B is the best Physics teacher I've ever had. I love this guy! He is so helpful and organized. Very passionate about his work. Basically, the worst part of taking Boudreaux's class is learning to spell his name. If you're taking Physics and have not taken Prof B, you're definitely missing out. He, and his class is AWESOME. Must-take!
I felt that his teaching methods only work for a specific type of student and that he was not very open to what he wanted from his students. I did not feel like I learned much from him and that he was not the best teacher.
I took PHY 121/122 with him. I have a really hard time with his way of teaching. Might work for some. He just goes over the book and then he gives you in class worksheets to fill out. He has very poor class-time management skills. His tests are a crapshoot but are usually quite hard. Once I got a perfect score, averaged a C. Lots of homework.
Very thorough, dedicated, helpful professor. Available for help a lot even outside the office hours. The only problem is the amount of homework assigned, to ace all of it I spent more time on his class's hw than 2 of my others
Boudreaux was one of the best large class profs i've had at western. He knows everyone's name, and gets everyone involved with worksheets, and questions. Too much homework, but he was available for help alot. Not much problem solving emphasis, more on conceptual understanding, which i think is good. He is a great prof who cares about the students!
Straight and to the point: labs and lectures are on two seperate topics. lectures are easy, labs can be difficult. lectures are mandatory because you basically fill out worksheets. good professor if you need to get a psychics course.
Had him for 121, 122, and 123. Thought he was great, really wanted students to understand the material, was often available for help. Good, clear answers to questions. Great prof.
I have a feeling that he would be a decent teacher if he was teaching a small class, but I had a terrible experience with him in my 101 lecture class. Whenever he gave us a challenge question, he spent over 15 minutes asking students what they thought the answer was and why before tellling us. You just don't do that in a 100 student lecture class!
A delightful challenge. A younger prof who still needs another year or so to iron out his teaching style. But almost always available for help. Requires you to stay on top of things, but it is college so you should expect that anyway. Good Prof.
Have had Seda, Stewart, and Ruppal, and Boudreaux is by far the best choice. The hw seems overwhelming sometimes but as long as you do it all you're good. Gotta pay attention if you want to pass tests. Makes you work for the A, but class is rewarding regardless.
Godd intentions bad execution...he tried to teach my lecture class like a class of 25...you just cant do that! He would spend so much time asking we thought and then never give us a clear answer! I felt like every day I was given a pair of wire cutters and asked to defuse a bomb with a thousand wires....ok maybe thats a little extreme but close!
Boudreaux is SUCH A NICE GUY! I felt bad for him - stuck teaching a 101 class full of worthless liberal arts students who don't give a flying piece of poo about physics. Very few of us were "good" students, and most totally spaced out during the classes we actually attended. In another, smaller, class, though, I bet Boudreaux could be AWESOME!
He was horrible. Although i did feel bad for the guy because no one seemed to listen to the guy. I think if he tried to teach more than have the students teach themselves things would have made more sense. Im not a fan and would suggest anyone to take him if you dont have an interest in the subject
He Does grade HWs, but only look into a few questions. You will need to spend time to do homework because the final exam is only 30-35% of your course grade. Go to his office hours, and you will know that he is helpful and not mean at all.
He just proposes a problem and lets students figure it out. Dont take the class without calculus, youll get lost. They say it wont be a problem, but there are dozens of little things, like what is represented by area under a curve they assume you already know. He will only teach you how to do something after youve already done it. useless.
There is a lot of class interation but the teaching is very different than what I was use to. It is fine once you adjust. He is a good teacher.
Great Professor, he is a good teacher, helpful and entertaining! He is clear on his expectations and the assignments are doable and interesting.
Very interactive teaching style with an emphasis on synthesis of material. Put in an effort and you'll get a good grade (and probably learn a lot too).
Wonderful professor. I'm not good at physics at all but I'll get a decent grade in this class. His lectures are clear, he lays the foundation of concepts for you, and then has you work through meaningful problems that help lock in concepts. Easy to approach, nice guy.
Very nice, and probably the best professor you'll run into in the phys. dept. I'm not good at physical at all, but I did ok, and came out with suitable knowledge on the subject.
very helpful
I really appreciate Dr. Boudreaux's attention to detail and exceptional use of examples. I also enjoyed the class structure much more; there is more assigned work which brings down the overall weight of each assignment. Its not easy but if you do your homework you will learn a lot more in his class than with other professors.
Dr. Boudreaux is an excellent teacher of a very difficult subject. He is so caring and helpful, as well as a very good explainer! If you put effort into his classes you can get a lot out of them. I felt like I understood physics in the end thanks to him!!
I really enjoyed having Andrew as my teacher. He was extremely approachable and friendly.
awesome teacher very helpful and uses excellent examples to help you comprehend whats going on instead of memorizing equations
Andrew is an awesome professor, he was incredibly helpful with course work and always worked hard to help you understand the concepts. He is genuine and has a sense of humor making class a lot easier to go to.
I had to get used to his teaching style at first, he doesn't lecture, class consists of in-class activities. But halfway through the quarter I find his teaching style extremely helpful. Based on class content the exams are very fair, you can get an A in this class if you do the assigned work and show up to class. I would love to have Andrew again!
Andrew is a good professor and I got a good understanding of physics from this class. It's labs and discussion-NO lectures. Andrew is a nice guy and he's very smart. The warning for this class is that it's full of annoying ditzy freshman girls who want to be eled teachers because they have no idea what being an educator really entails
I felt like a little kid in the class. We had to have nametags, use flashcards, and everything was really repetitive. I guess it is an entry level class, but it felt like he was doing a lot of hand-holding through the class and it made it very boring and repetitive.
Very good instructor and very fair exams I only wish the labs were more clear
Pretty legit professor makes the class not too hard even for me with no prior physics knowledge. Got 89 on first exam planning to take him for whole series.
He's just an okay teacher. It helps going to lecture, but class time is not productive at all. I personally thought he was pretty rude when I came to him after class for extra help. I'm going to avoid him in the future.
Boudreaux seems to be a love him or hate him teacher... I am personally of the second persuasion. His lecture time feels like a waste, it is mostly composed of filling out various high schoolesque worksheets. Only reason I bothered to go at all was for Participation credit. 60ish percent of grade is based on trying. Had to teach self primarily.
Professor Boudreaux is completely unorganized. He DOES NOT actually teach the class. His tests ask questions that were not addressed in class. would not recommend
Absolutely horrible and agonizing professor. Cant teach to save his life. Very unorganized and never makes any sense during class. He flips his teaching style, where instead of him teaching you and you doing the hw at home, you teach yourself and struggle and he "answers" questions during class. He uses flashcards and name tags...i mean really?
Horrible professor. Does not lecture and expects you to learn everything on your own and go to class for questions.
He needs to lecture more in class and actually teach the material more. Only the students who love physics and understand it initially based off of reading excel in this class. If you dont understand the book then you will get left behind. class time management is completely off
Boudreaux is a frustrating professor. He didn't make his expectations clear in the class, and therefore I did not know how to prepare. I ended up doing decently, but it felt like I wasn't being tested on my understanding of the material.
I agree with all of the ratings below.Very unprepared, unorganized and unclear. Also, he is kind of a jerk. You get the feeling that he really doesn't want to answer your questions. no availability for extra help.
Andrew is super scattered and doesn't really lecture in this class. If he did, it could have been way better. I didn't enjoy class, and sometimes felt like it was useless being there. He's alright.
I thought this class would be interesting, but it was one of the worst classes I have taken at Western. I was so confused & even when I went to Andrew for help, I still did terribly on exams! I would do well on assignments, and felt like I understood the material but did very poorly overall. I don't think I learned anything. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
You get the feeling that Professor Boudreaux is often very busy running the entire physics department, so he doesn't really have a lot of time for this class. HW and tests are passed back way after they're done, and feedback is hard to get after you moved on from it in class. He's not a bad teacher, but you need to keep up in the book to survive.
Very reasonable amount of homework, and it was all helpful. You definitely are expected to read the textbook very thoroughly-make sure to actually work through the examples. He was EXTREMELY helpful in office hours-possibly more than class. Tests challenge you but if you do the written and online homework and really read the book you'll be fine.
The whole class was group lab work, and was interesting. It's a class that requires a lot of thinking as you are making your own concepts and he often won't tell you the direct answer - but that's the point. Truly helped change how I think of concepts and was a useful class.
Andrew is a great teacher, in this course, he acts more as a moderator than an instructor. It's an inquiry-based learning approach, so the students have to find answers themselves, then ask for clarification if necessary. It's basic physics, so the course itself is not difficult. Only two exams all quarter, one being the final.
I've taken Physics in high school and covered leaps and bounds more than I could ever learn in Andrews class. He failed to efficiently cover most topics and created names for processes like "speedyupness" for acceleration and "tipsiness." His grading criteria never made sense and I have been marked down for not explaining algebra. Just stay away
Andrew has even admitted that he is unorganized, and has said that he takes it as a compliment when his students say they had to teach themselves the whole class. Lectures are not well prepared, and little time is given to the actual course topics during lecture. In-class assignments. The textbook and internet is your real professor in this class.
Interesting and helpful lectures, moderate amount of homework that mimicked test style questions. Understood that the aim of the class was to have a introductory level of physics concepts, and taught as such. Great class and professor to use in order to knock out a lab science!
I am in the 8th week of his 161 class, and it is apparent that he is struggling to keep the class on track. The class is very unorganized, and we have fallen 2 weeks behind the other 161 classes. He is an easy grader, but the lectures are not very helpful in the homework assignments, and all the moving parts of the class don't seem to line up.
He lets us do the teaching. Aka he sits back and eats food while we do labs and doesnt answer your questions because he wants you to struggle to find the right answer because answering a yes or no question is too easy
Andrew was incredibly accommodating. I turned in my homework late a few times and he gave me full credit. He really cares about his students and their learning. He is obviously human. He is kind of scattered, but if you follow his thought process and actually pay attention in class, he is a thorough teacher.
Andrew is super unorganized and his grading is extremely unorganized. Attendance is mandatory (Only lets you miss 3 classes or you fail). Won't help you in class and wants you to struggle with assignments. When he does help, you get more confused and if you ask a question he gets offended and shuts down.
There is a policy where if you miss more than 3 classes (even if excused) you will not get credit for the course. Emphasizes student based learning instead of lecturing, which is frustrating at times when you have questions because you do not get a clear answer. You also work a lot in groups and have at least one large group discussion per class.
Andrew is a nice guy but this class was one of the worst I've taken at Western. The material didn't really seem like actual physics concepts, his grading criteria for group projects and homework was really unclear, and the exams were WAY more difficult than any example questions and homeowork given in class. He is also super disorganized.
Andrew is a stand-up guy. But, confusing. He does not lecture; instead opting for workshops. Yet these often fall behind the homework concepts, leaving you to teach yourself. His exams are graded oddly, and not in your favor. If your thought process does not follow exactly what he wants, he will mark you down, even if you are not incorrect.
Definitely unorthodox, but not a bad prof
Andrew's lectures are very brief and strange, and he makes you do most of the learning in small groups or on HW,. He does short tests every other week which always have something extra added to make them a bit harder than the HW, so be ready. Besides that though the homework load is light, tests aren't bad, and he's always good to talk to for help.
Professor Boudreaux is a very good teacher. He is nice and funny, and in this class I have not struggled, because he always make sure that we understand the everything. He gives physics demonstrations in class, which are very helpful for learning and he is always clear. Physics 101 does not require math at all, but only physics concepts.
I took his SCED 201 course, which is designed for future teachers, but is open to anyone. I found the student led classes to be enjoyable. He is a bit disorganized, yes, but he is incredibly knowledgeable about the material. If I was majoring in physics or science, I wouldn't choose this class. For a non-science student, it was perfect.
I really enjoyed taking this class as an Elementary Education major. This course is designed with a collaborative learning approach rather than lectures, which is meant to emulate what you would do to teach elementary schoolers. l found this approach incredibly helpful for me and my future teaching style. Andrew is also an awesome teacher!
Andrew is great. Very willing to accommodate even when it's the student's own mistake, interesting lectures, super easy homework (mostly completion based), and at least some extra credit. All tests and the final were also online and the multiple choice was easy. He's picky about the written portion but not unfairly and he doesn't mark down too much
Corny but entertaining and kind. Big on "New" teaching styles: class surveys, completion grade for HW, big on class participation. Homework is due before lecture covers material to introduce it, which can be cumbersome, then another assignment due afterward to practice it. He really wants to work with you to make sure you understand the material.
Prof. Boudreaux was incredibly caring and you could tell his students' success is important to him. He's always looking to help and to make the material engaging. I recommend attending office hours; he does a good job of clearing confusion. Most of the graded assignments are completion-based, and his exams are not difficult if you attend lecture.
Boudreaux is seriously such a good professor - he is kind, funny, and always helps his students. We had 1-2 participation grades/week (completion based), 1-2 reading assignments, 1 HW assignment (1/2 completion based and 1/2 graded) and exams were online. He gave me extra credit on a homework assignment because he liked my work. love him
Pretty chill guy who is very enthusiastic about class participation. Textbook reading assignments are low key buns but the midterm and final were both online open book. Very solid teacher if you're not test savvy but want to engage in in-class work
Utilize office hours and his email as much as possible. He's very helpful and sweet but homework and tests can be difficult. Labs required and in class exit slips almost every class so good attendance is needed to succeed.
