He's a great guy. A graduate of vatech you can tell he's still a frat boy at heart. He called a susbstitute in because tech was playing uva and he warned us the next morning class would be impossible for him. His best
Hes a pro id certinaly advise u to sign in his class... he is not a pro hes more a friend a close friend hes the MAN :)
Strongly Recommend Mr Bristow hes a teacher and a friend really good PRO.... enjoy this period with MR Andrew because hes one of the best professors youll get :)
Had good, organized notes, helped you if you didn't understand, gets your attention
Mr. Bristow is one of the most easy-going, intelligent, professors on this campus. Gives take home quizzes and nothing on exams are out of the blue. Attend class, do work like you're supposed to (It's so easy) and you'll get the easiest A
Mr. Bristow is the man...he's the best math professor @ VCU period...very understanding and easy to communicate with...the end.
Andy is that dude! He's an amazing teacher! He'll help students one-on-one oppose to groups when necessary and he likes to get to know his students personally; he challenges them. Man, I honestly do not know what I would do if I had another math teacher at VCU than Mr. Bristow!
By far the best math teacher I have ever had. I am not a math person but I got an A or B on all quizzes and tests. He is extremely helpful and knows what he's talking about. If you have the opportunity, definitely take one of his courses
Best math teacher I have ever had! Take him if you can:) He taught me math 141 and he teaches math 200 which I hope to get him as a teacher. He's honestly the best.
Bristow is an awesome professor. He honestly cares about his students understanding the material. He always advises students to come to his office hours to get extra help of clarification. His tests and quizzes are not tricky as long as you do the required assignments. Best teacher I've had at VCU
BRISTOW IS THE BEST. His Recitation class makes up for everything wrong with the MATH230 lecture.
Bristow is fantastic. I am not a strong math person but he makes me want to major in math. He makes the class so approachable. You get as many tries as you need on the homework. The tests and quizzes come straight from the homework and notes. There are no tricks because he honestly wants you to understand the material. Take him!
Andy is without a doubt the best teacher I've ever had. I like math, but I will say that if math is not one of your strengths, you need to make sure you get in his class. He could not be any nicer, any more respectful, or any more flexible. Give him 100% and he will do anything he can to get you the best grade possible.
Andy is by far the best professor I have ever had. He will go out of his way to help you and his patience is simply remarkable. I've been lucky enough to have him for 141 and 201. Completely heartbroken that he does not teach courses beyond 201. I recommend his classes to EVERYONE. You will never come across a better professor. EVER.
Professor Bristow is really nice and very understanding. He's always available via email if you have any questions on the homework or test reviews. As long as you ask questions when you have them, he'll make sure you understand. If you try, and take advantage of extra credit, and review sessions, there's no reason you won't get a good grade.
Bristow is the best math teacher I have ever had. Coming from a long history of horrible math teachers, he gets to wear the crown. He gives each individual student a fair chance to pass his class, he cares about his students . I highly recommend him as a math professor, especially to the people who struggle mathematically. He is a big help.
Pro Bristow is a great teacher. He is willing to help students when they need the help. Make sure you do the homework and classwork(or clicker questions). If you need help, email him. He will message back. For some people, wouldn't recommend his big lecture class. I would have don't better in a smaller class.
First and only review. This guy is hands-down the best math teacher I've ever had. You can tell he wants to help you, and he makes sure he goes over the material at a pace that doesn't leave anyone behind. Again, best math teacher ever.
I am literally terrible at math, and not going to lie, i got a 26 on the 2nd test, simply because i didnt go to class, i got a 100 on test 3 because i went to class. He is one of the best teachers ive ever had in my life. If math isnt your thing, i would take him hands down, i wish he could teacher every subject in all honestly, hes amazing.
Mr. Bristow is an amazing professor! Math 230 is a bit boring but he makes it very fun to learn about. The class is based on about 15 group worksheets which are 25% of the grade, 2 exams, and a final project. This class does require a lot of group work but it is not that bad! I really enjoyed learning about different civilizations plus it was easy!
Professor Bristow is the best math professor at VCU!!! He is always willing to help all his students. I really suck at math and went to his office hours to get help and it helped so much. I wish he could be my professor for math 200 and 201!
He is definitely one of the nicest and most caring teachers I have had yet in College! He really cares about his students and helping them do their best. He also gives a lot of extra credit and I mean almost a whole letter grade on every test! Would recommend him 100%.
He really does take the time to explain everything and will go over any problem that the students need help on. He is one of the few professors that actually respond to their email. Warning- if you are a fast leaner or if you have taken pre-calc in high school please go on to MATH 200 or else you will bored during class.
I have an A so far in the class. # 1 tip, this may sound tedious but it has proved to be effective thus far. For all the hw I have completed I copy each question down and solve them in a notebook. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS, they are lengthy but if you've written down the hw problems you'll know how to do them. They are also extra credit so why not.
Bristow is AMAZING!! He posts all the notes online. If you email him for help on how to solve a specific problem in the homework, he will solve it for you in class. It's really impossible not to get an A in this class. His exams are short answer, not multiple choice. Also, do the test review for 8 extra points on the exam!
Please take pre-calc with Bristow he cares about his students so much whenever i had issues with homework i would shoot him and email and he would reply within less than 2 hours he's the best professor ever and made me love math again !!
He is the best Math teacher I have ever had i my life. He is very nice and cares about his students. He will help you if you are stuck. Easy A.
Andrew Bristow is the best math teacher I've ever had. He is so kind and respectful. There are not many tests. No quizzes. Gives extra credit for all tests. If you attend class, you will definitely understand the material. I definitely would take ant math class with him again.
He is an amazing professor! Just show up to his class and pay attention and you'll pass. He is very flexible and he understands you! If you have a question, don't hesitate to ask him. He will take the time and explain it to you. DEFINITELY take precalculus with him.
He's a great professor. All notes are posted on blackboard after class. If you do the review guide you'll get 8 extra points on the test which can really help you go from a B to an A. He also goes over homework problems during class so it should be an easy A
Professor Bristow was the absolute BEST math teacher I have ever had, hands down. I would recommend him a thousand times if I could. He is really understanding and will work with you in all aspects of the class. The class is an easy AB if you attend his lectures, and go to him for help. Take him if you can!
Words cant describe how amazing of a teacher this guy is.
Bristow is GREAT at reviewing all the basics. He is wonderful at making sure his students understand the fundamentals and foundation of all the material he taught. The tests were kind of long but as long as you do the test reviews, you can jump a whole test grade. Clicker points are just clicking in that you were in class. Super easy class.
amazingggg teacher!!!hes honestly there to HELP YOU. took this class in the fall failed an i took it with him i passed! he takes his time and makes sure you understand the material
Freaking loved Mr. Bristow. He did a great job explaining the concepts. There are three test not including the final which is cumulative. Go to the study sessions theyre very helpful. Make sure you do the online homework to boost your grade. Come to class because he does clicker questions. Pray that Jeremy (the TA) doesn't grade your test.
Prof. Bristow is the BEST math professor at VCU, hands down! He goes over everything that's going to be covered on the test. Going to his office hours helps! This class is really easy, as long as you keep up with it. Get the webassign homework done ahead of time! Gives up to 8 EC points if you do the test reviews, can boost your grade tremendously!
He is a great professor. His lectures are clear. He is the most helpful professor I've had. Andrew Bristow is the best math. He is very kind.
He is ultimately the best professor I have ever had. I got insane grades in his class because he gave us so much extra credit. Every time you do the test review, you get easy credit for every test. His tests aren't many and they are easy. He is not a tough grader at all. He will give you grades as long as you show that you know what you're doing.
Best professor I have ever had. Very charming and approachable, and he really cares about his students' success. You really, really, should complete the extra credit assignments for 8 extra percentage points on the exams -- that saved my grade. He teaches you how to complete the homework in class before you do it which is so helpful.
Loved this class. Loved this professor. Hope to have the pleasure of being in his class in the future. Many review sessions. Help is available in a group or individual setting.
I want to start off with the fact that I have never received above a C in a math class. I'm notoriously terrible at math, but Professor Bristol's class was actually relatively easy for me. He explains things in a very basic way thats easy to understand and is really approachable if you have questions. 10/10 would reccommend he's the best
Very, very nice professor who is always willing to help. I took him for Honors Math 230, and I can definitely say I would not have wanted to take it with anyone else. Group worksheets comprise most of the class along with a final project. There are also two tests, all calculation-based, that will require studying, but he provides a study guide.
If this man is teaching the class you need, stop searching because you've found the best math professor at VCU! If you are not a math person, he will make you feel so confident in the subject. Very kind, slow-paced, gives extra credit as well on tests (8 pts) for finishing reviews! He's a blessing to those who have a hard time with math! Take him!
He is so nice and a very good professor. He does not make his class more difficult than it needs to be and tries his best to prepare his students before tests with reviews. He gives practice exams which are identical to the actual exams and tells you the essay questions ahead of time.
Mr. Bristow is an amazing professor. I am generally not a math person but he worked with me and encouraged me to do better. He cares whether or not his students understand the material and is especially patient and kind. I could come to him and ask questions and he would work with me until I understood the material. Overall a great professor.
Very kind professor, usually available outside of class and is always willing to provide you with help in any way you need it.
By far the best professor I have ever taken! He invests so much time into helping his students out - from holding review sessions to individually emailing solutions. His lectures are as clear as they can be with many simple tricks to overcome a difficult concept. If he is your option as a teacher, I absolutely recommend taking his class.
Prof. Bristow is an amazing math teacher! I received an A in his class. I definitely worked for it but he helps you every step of the way. He is nice, answers questions thoroughly in and out of class, holds review sessions, and many other tools he provides. He wants you to succeed you just need to put in the work. Definitely wish I had him for calc
Andrew Bristow is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. He's very passionate and really cares about his students. I had the ALEKS section so he didn't do much lecturing besides his optional "mini-lectures", but he is always willing to help!
Not a lot of tests, but he has a fairly difficult final exam. Overall a great teacher, very helpful and accessible.
I attend his class every single day, did ALEKS, reviewed every single day, went to his backroom sessions, and went to review sessions and I still failed. I have mostly A's and B's in other classes. Stay away from this teacher.
Bristow made me change my mind about math. He's so delightful and engaged, as well as accessible and understanding. He wants you to succeed just as much as you do and he'll help you in every way he can! Class was a bit homework intensive but I feel as if that's how all math classes go.
AMAZING teacher. I took the ALEKS online class with mandatory attendance for classroom. Basically we sat together in one room working online but he was always around to help and would give up to 8 points extra credit on every test ( even on the final!) His mini lectures were great. Just be sure to do ALL of Aleks and the worksheets before tests.
He really cares about his students and no matter what question you asked, he was willing to answer it. He is willing to slow down and explain things during class if you don't understand. Would definitely recommend him as a professor!
Andy is by far the best professor I've had at VCU. Very understanding, always goes out of his way for his students, ensures review sessions, very helpful, and super nice. I had him for Math 141, 151 and in fall I will have him for 200. As long as you do your work, you will be fine. TAKE HIM!
Andrew is an incredible professor, I just had the misfortune of having his class paired with ALEKS. The 8-hour weekly quota that had to be logged got really difficult at times. The tests don't match up to the ALEKS material but he posts tons of practice problems similar to the test. Would take his class again if it were just lecture-based.
Wonderful professor! I wish all math teachers were like him! He is awesome at taking the time to thoroughly answer any and every question.
I was terrified of taking calculus, but somehow, this man coached me so well that I got an A. He goes over the information slowly and really makes sure that you understand the material. Plus, he is available very often to go over material one-on-one. If you want to pass calculus and maybe even get an A, take his class!!!
He is a very nice, understanding, and caring teacher. Attendance is not mandatory every class, but for some classes he will give an attendance code.
Best teacher I have ever had, didn't know how great he was until I signed up with other teachers.
Great guy! He's very nice and friendly. Easy to follow along and understand and writes out every step. Took him for pre calc and calc!
Mr. Bristow's hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. I actually enjoyed math for once. I took Math 151 during the summer and he was very helpful. He took his time explaining concepts. He always stayed after class if I needed help. I never got under a 78 on the exams. I had a B average throughout the class but i failed the final and got C+.
He is extremely nice and provides a lot of extra help. He does everything in his power to make sure students do well. However, make sure you dont fall behind on ALEKS because you work at your own pace in this class.
I had Professor Bristow for 151 with the ALEKS portion. This class was online but he holds tutoring sessions during the class and is open to help. I am awful at math but maintained an A throughout. He offers extra credit that adds 8% to your exam grade. Very approachable and easy to understand.
There is absolutely no way you can fail a class with him! Take advantage of his mini lectures he holds in the ALEKS portion, he gives you extra information if you do. He is approachable and willing to help all the time! Seriously take him, you wont regret it if you use all of your resources!
He's there to help you & wants you to pass. He tells dad jokes lol. I hate math & he helped pass the hardest math class I've ever taken. I worked hard for my C, but thats not his fault Im just not good at math. Hw is worth more than tests and he'll help you with the hw. Most of my friends got A's he's the best calc prof w/ the best grading scale!
great teacher! lots of quizzes but he really does the most to make sure everyone understands the material
The only thing we did in class was work on the program Aleks, which we had to do eight hours a week, but it honestly was nothing because it was the only work for the class. He gave extra credit for every test even the final. And was willing to answer any and all questions. I would most definitely take any of his courses.
Great teacher. Always available during office hours. If you are looking for a pre-calc teacher he is the one. He cares a lot for his students and makes sure they pass the class. There is a lot of extra credit available per test , and I recommend you use this your advantage. He does take random attendance, so GO TO CLASS
He's a super nice guy with a very relaxed grading policy. I once slept through one of his exams and explained the situation and he was more than happy to offer me another chance to come in to take it. He's very understanding and is clear during his lectures. My 18 credit schedule didn't allow me much time but if you study then an A or B is easy.
I HATE THE ALEKS SYSTEM!!! If you can take this class as a regular lecture then do it because you're required to spend 8hrs a week on the ALEKS system which is graded and if you have other classes and a job that's A LOT of work. He does mini lectures but you basically teach yourself in this class depending where you're at on ALEKS. TONS of work!
I am personally a student who couldn't pass a math class in high school. I now have a 99% in Pre Calc. Aleks makes it very easy if you put in the effort. Attendance matters because you swipe in every class, but it's nice because it counts toward the 8 hours you need. He is very nice and an AMAZING PROF!!!!
Amazing professor and I would recommend taking him for math141/151! In 151 there are small lectures given inside the class that are optional but I would recommend going to them. He gives extra credit options for every test and even the final. He really cares about his students and wants you to pass the class! Attendance is mandatory!
Loved him, used ALEKS for precalc which kinda sucked but he had lessons in the back which were super thorough. 8% extra credit offered on tests (do those!).
Lebron James of math professors.
Amazing professor, he explains each topic really well. Even if you're a person who hates math and learns things at a slow pace, you can always ask him for help and he will literally explain to you the problems like step by step. Also if you email him with the problem you are stuck with, we will email you back as soon as possible.
Professor Bristow is an awesome professor. The class is real chill as all you do is work on ALEKS, and if needed, you can attend his lecture in the room in the back if u want to, its not required. The class is more self-paced which is why I liked it. If u do your homework and study well, its really easy to get an A.
I have always struggled some in math but Bristow really does take the confusion away. If you struggle in math like me, id suggest going to every class, attend his mini lectures in the back, and attend his review sessions to prepare for exams. And stay on top of your ALEKs homework!!! Class requires a lot of effort, but it's very manageable.
He is the best math teacher I've had in a few years. He organizes with his teachings and when you don't understand something, he helps you understand it clearly to the max. His help outside class is phenomenal, he doesn't just teach his students, he is also there for them when they need him.
Professor Bristow is an amazing teacher at VCU. He explains the material very nicely. I cannot think of any negative comments about him. He truly knows how to teach. I always left class confident in how to do the next assignment. Whenever I was unsure how to do a question, He would help explain how the question in depth.
Professor is an amazing teacher. If you put enough effort in his class you can pass with an A.I personally recommend using the homework as prep for the tests and making use of his office hours if youre ever confused.
I really liked Prof. Bristow, I just didn't like using ALEKS. He was super nice and outgoing, and always willing to stay after class if you were confused on a topic. Overall a super caring guy who wants his students to do well!
Andy is probably the best teacher I've had at VCU. Take him. I am absolute garbage at math, but I always feel like I am learning and he instills a sense of interest in the subject. Math, interesting? Yeah... I also hate math. But he has made me like it. Show up to office hours he has ample and is willing to help and give you a boost. S-class prof.
Absolute trash. I trusted the other reviews on here and took him. He acts like he wants to help in the beginning, and then leaves you out to fend for yourself when it comes to tests. Tests are weighted extremely heavy, while other assignments aren't. I struggled hard to even get a C and so did the rest of my class.
Bristow is nice and does his best to teach and cares for his students. HOWEVER THE TESTS ARE 5X TIMES HARDER THAN WHAT IS TAUGHT. ALEKS is a pain to use and hard to keep up. Its not really bristows fault, the math department sucked this semester and the course is structured terribly.
He is a nice teacher and that answers a lot of questions and will do what we can but the math department a VCU in my opinion, is not the best. I would say take the math somewhere else. The test are hard and dont match whats given and Aleks is a handful plus it doesnt really help.
He was a lot of fun, and his class was well-thought out and well executed. I would take one of his classes again in a heartbeat. He's one of the good ones!
Bristow is not a great lecturer, and many students fail his class. I had to withdraw and take precalculus at another institution instead. The tests are incredibly difficult and the course content is rigorous. Take any other professor, I do not recommend this professor.
Professor Bristow is honestly such a great math teacher. He cares about his students and is always accessible outside of class. The only issue is that tests are heavily weighted and the math department SUCKS because they make the test (not him). However, he really is the best math teacher to explain everything. Put in the effort and you'll pass.
He has a very good teaching style, was easy to understand, AMAZING at explaining how you get the answer. The assignments were over easy, just a little time consuming. I only had to pay for ALEKS for the entire semester.
TAKE THIS MAN! HE THE GOAT! He's easily one of the best math teachers I've had in my entire life. Homework is 20% of your grade (which is an easy A). His tests are fair but you do have to study for them. You are much better off with Andy than any other professor
Wasn't my favorite professor. His notes were messy and he didn't upload them until after the exams (even when students begged him to upload sooner). He also takes months to put grades into canvas which can be really frustrating.
Do not take this professor. He lectures very slowly, and on top of that, this semester he had lots of family emergencies (which werent his fault) and he had to cancel classes several times. He takes forever to post the lecture videos from the classes we missed, and he did not post our final exam review until just a few days before the final.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is caring of his students. The way he teaches topics, it settles in my brain permanently. Not once has he ever turned a student away without help. He had a lot of office hours to help students too.
Prof Bristow is literally the best math instructor I have had in my entire life. He will take the time in class to explain anything needed, with clear detailed lectures. The grading system is more than fair, and you truly learn the material. MATH200 was the last math credit I needed, and I am beyond thankful I took it with Bristow.
best math prof ever. i retook calc thinking it'd be as bad as it was the first time, but with this teacher, it was incredibly easy to understand and pass. he's very chill and understanding, and gives good study material for exams. would def take again and recommend to others
Literally the best math professor I have ever taken. He is so accessible outside of the classroom. Test are weighed heavy, but always do the study guide and you will be fine. Lots of quizzes given, but they are never hard or unexpected. So so so caring ab all his students!
One of the best math teachers I've ever had.
Best math professor ever had! Go to class as he will make sure you get the concept. Student hours are very helpful. Easy A as long as you come to class and practice material. Take notes during class. 4 tests and 1 final. No retakes except for first test. Made Calc 1 easy.
Anyone who says he's a bad professor just didn't try in class because he makes it SO easy to pass his class. He's genuinely the best professor I've had and make calc 1 SO EASY, I'd never want to miss class! He's so caring and very accessible. He's not a harsh grader! Do the HW, study guides, and go to student hours and you're set. TAKE HIM PLEASE!!
BEst profesor ever!!! Would take again 100%
He is an excellent teacher and cares about the class. Tests are difficult but he provides plenty of resources to prepare. The homework was usually more difficult than the problems given in class and on the exam (you are given unlimited attempts on the HW).
