Andrew is a really cool dude. His lessons are really interesting, and he's hilarious. He grades fairly hard and he gives one-question reading quizzes for most of the readings he assigns. If you go to class, do the reading, and study hard, you'll do fine.
No papers. Reading three times a week. 5 exams and final is not cumulative. If you memorize the lecture material, easy A on exams. Gives out review sheets, lecture summaries, and holds a review session before each test, use those and you'll do well.
Andrew is an awesome teacher who is super relatable and really wants his students to do well. One of the best at CU!
Andrew is the best professor I have ever had in my time at CU. He very much cares about his students and is always there for you. He truly wants you to do well, and if you do not then it's on you. His lectures are pretty interesting even though theres a fair amount of reading. He's a kind, intelligent, and caring professor. One of the rare ones.
Best professor Ive ever had here at boulder. Lectures are stimulating, interesting and interactive. Funniest and most passionate guy about the subject on campus. As long as you do the readings the class is very straight forward with lots of opportunities for grade boosters. Would keep in touch and take classes with him again. Take him! Like now.
He's a really incredible professor!
Great teacher who recognizes hard work. If you put the effort in, you can get out the grade you desire.
Such an awesome dude. Very respectful and understanding. Throws in some jokes and really helps lighten the classroom atmosphere. For sure go to class and pay attention.
Hilarious teacher, witty and passionate which makes his class that much better. Always available to contact and flexible in meeting hours. Listens to all of his students and is forthcoming in his responses. Definitely don't pass up taking his class
Cool guy. Easy to talk to. Very relaxed grading policy. Relatively stress free class really, but you still get the opportunity to learn the material if you want. Ask him about his cat.
Really knowledgeable and relatable professor. Absolutely loved him. Went out of his way to help his students, and was probably the most understanding professors I've had. Four take home tests. You can correct them afterwards. And I learned a lot! He was so clear about what we needed to know, and made it easy to get an A if you wanted one.
Great teacher, taught me a ton.
A great professor who truly cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He does assign a lot of readings but the readings are really interesting and he makes them relevant. Andrew is also absolutely brilliant, one of the smartest professors I have ever had and he definitely knows his stuff. He is also really funny and tells great stories.
I LOVE CHAPMAN!!! I never rate my professors, but Chapman deserved this one. He really cares about his students. He truly wants everyone to pass. Just go to class everyday and try to meet with him for office hours, and you're pretty much guaranteed the A you deserve. BEST PROFESSOR AT CU BOULDER PERIOD!
Great teacher! Felt more like a friend than a teacher actually. Discussions were always very engaging and relevant and often funny! Andrew is a great guy who only wants his students to succeed. Tests are take home and he offers points back. Very reasonable professor! Loved the class!
Andrew is a great professor that really cares about his students. His lectures are engaging and really interesting. He also has some great jokes to put a smile on your face! Definitely would recommend taking his classes!
Chapman is a really awesome guy and an amazing teacher but his course is rough (maybe because I chose the honors course). He's incredibly willing to help raise your grades but figuring out what he specifically wants you to answer on tests is confusing and sometimes downright hard. If you've never had a philosophy course before, do your research.
I am not particularly philosophy minded and struggled with understanding almost all of the material but Andrew was always there to help and would do anything to make sure his students get a good grade. He really cares about his students and makes lectures very entertaining. Awesome guy, highly recommend taking any of his courses!!!
Delightful and unconventionally refreshing
Andrew was truly an amazing professor and really wanted his students to succeed. He was always there to help with any questions. Didn't hurt that he was hilarious as well. Take his class.
Excellent Professor
He wants you to learn. If you want you to learn you'll get an A.
Andrew is AMAZING. Hands down the nicest professor I've ever had. I've also never seen a professor care more about their students. Andrew lets you come in and redo your tests as many times as you want to get your grade up. The class is pretty hard, but no matter what you'll never fail. He TRULY cares about his students. A+ guy
Awesome person and willing to help you succeed. Allows for constant revisions on tests until you are satisfied with your score.
As a senior, Andrew is easily one of the best professors I've had. If you come into into office hours and show that you've learned the material, he'll give you points back on assignments. He cares about his students and wants them to learn the material. The class was a lot of work, but I learned a lot. Take a class with him.
Andrew is a wonderful teacher who truly cares about his students. His classes are difficult, but you are guaranteed to get a good grade as long as you are willing to work for it.
Andrew Chapman is really one of the best teachers I've had in my 4+ years in college. He was very good at distilling philosophical texts and arguments into there most important elements, and presenting them in an intuitive and very funny way. I would strongly recommend anybody interested in philosophy take a class with him if possible.
Super funny and caring. More than that, he lets you go in for office hours to get credit back on tests. You should be able to get an A even if you get an F on the paper (exam).
He can be a bit of a hard grader for his exams but he gives you the opportunity to earn back points on all of them so you can still get a 100% if you prove to him you know the material. He assigns a lot of reading and if you want to pass you need to do them. Go to all his lectures, they're super interesting and he's a very engaging speaker!
Andrew is an incredible instructor. He's concise, animated, and thorough. He's a very patient and understanding person, and willing to allow exceptions to to help his students learn the material (due date extension; test corrections). But there's more to Andrew than how he teaches. He cares about his kids inside and outside the classroom.
Andrew Chapman is the greatest professor I've ever had. He is incredibly smart, extremely accessible and truly wants his students to succeed. Never miss a chance to take any class with Dr. Andrew Chapman.
Take a class with Chapman! Amazing professor, I wish I could take more of his courses. Chapman cares so much about his students and their success in class and outside class. He allows you to receive points back on tests if you prove to him you know the material in office hours. He was an inspiring, truly knowledgeable, and hilarious instructor.
Andrew is one of the best professors I've ever had. Hilarious lectures and a silly guy. There are 4 exams, which are just papers answering some specific questions. His has this amazing policy where you can go into office hours for 5-10 minutes and regain 100% of the points lost on any exam! He assigns readings but they're not essential to read.
Andrew is the man! He's method of teaching is great and he really cares about his students
Andrew is a pretty amazing teacher. Definitely take a class with him of you can. He's one of those very memorable professors.
Andrew is the boy! Made coming to class enjoyable and employs a grading system in which the pressure to get a good grade is minimized, yet there is every opportunity to make sure that the material has been absorbed. All Andrew really cares about is his students and making sure they grasp the material--he would give every one a 100 if possible.
Andrew is such an amazing professor!! His lectures are so interesting, & he doesn't read off PowerPoints. Genuinely cares about his students success and that they learn the material. TOUGH grader but very accessible, lets you go in to gain points back on the exam if you've learned the material. Will definitely try to take another class with him.
Andrew's great. He'll work with you with extensions and stuff; he really wants you to do well. And he's really funny. My one complaint was really just that he was not always super clear (at least in the Existentialism class I took with him). Sometimes it seemed almost like he changed his mind about what he thinks certain existentialists said.
I loved Andrew he was my favorite professor this semester!
Andrew is the coolest teacher I have had so far in college. Loved his class and the way he taught it!
Amazing! Super hard class but gives you chances to do as well as you want!
Great teaching philosophy that encourages true learning in the subject rather than only studying to pass exams!
I took a 5 week History of Modern Philosophy course. Andrew is INCREDIBLE. He's extremely funny and charismatic, so get ready to laugh. If ever you need him, he's around. His lectures are made for all levels of students, and he takes a lot of time to make sure everyone feels comfortable with the material, and in the class. 10/10 recommend!
Great professor. Incredibly smart, engaging lectures with just enough distraction. Funny but doesn't push it. I didn't keep up with the readings, still didn't feel totally lost at any point. Would gladly take another class with him again.
Andrew is an amazing lecturer. His lectures are clear, engaging, and just the right amount of funny (not in a distracting way). If you want to get a solid basis in social and political philosophy from someone who really knows his stuff, this is the class to take. He's also super kind and understanding if you ever need help/extensions.
I loved this class a lot. Andrew was such a great professor who really respected his students. I had to work hard for my A, but it was well worth it. He cares so much about peoples grades and wants all of his students to succeed. I highly recommend taking any of his classes. Overall a great experience and I would take the class again! Best of luck
Andrew is a phenomenal teacher. He lectures are clear, and he's super funny. He wants all of his students to succeed and will help you get the grade you want. PAY ATTENTION and you will do just fine. Signup for this class, you will not regret it.
I wont even bother telling you why you should take his class, take his class and I highly doubt you will regret it.
Andrew was a great teacher. He cares more that you actually learned and will give you the grade you want granted that you show up to class.
Wow, the dopest professor ever. Such a cool, down to earth guy. Honestly didnt feel like I was forced to be there because he made class enjoyable. No homework except readings that arent that difficult or text-heavy. Tests werent too bad and theyre take home. what more could you ask for?? Great guy. Love him
Andrew Chapman is the GOAT (greatest of all time). Highly recommend!
Amazing professor! Genuinely cares about student success, and will do everything he can to help you get the grade you're aiming for. Lectures are entertaining, while still being very informative. Attendance isn't completely mandatory per say, but will help your grade, and I would find it hard to do really well in the class without going to lecture.
I took PHIL 1200 with Andrew and he is the absolute boy. He is funny, sarcastic, and realistic. His tests are take home and he wants you to do well so you can do corrections afterwards. You get into detail about interesting topics like meat-eating and abortion but his way of teaching is great. Show up, take notes, and chill.
ANDREW. DAVID. CHAPMAN. God do I love this man... I have never had a teacher who truly, deeply, cares for his students well being as much as Andrew. His goal is to teach you the most while causing the least stress in your life. He means it. Extremely interesting content. I looked forward to coming to class everyday. The first unit kind sucks ngl
Take this class if you have struggled with mental/physical health, trauma, addiction or literally anything else. Bc Andrew is extremely honest about his experiences with addiction, bipolar disorder and trauma from a physical injury. He will be an absolute hero in your life if you need someone to talk or relate to. LOVE THIS MAN
Dr. Andrew Chapman is an exceptional teacher that anyone would be lucky to have. He cares deeply about his students, is incredibly understanding, and only wants you to succeed! His lectures are engaging and if you attend class you can easily receive an A without much added work. 10/10 recommend and would absolutely take another class with him!!
Andrew is an amazing teacher who cares deeply about his students. He only wants students to succeed and will give countless opportunities to make this happen! He fully explains everything in lecture so if you attend class youre bound to pass. Always happy to make time for students and always will answer questions. 100% recommend!!
Andrew is the best. He has a very easy and fair grading system (because grading is immoral), and personally sees to your grades to help you focus and learn in class. To learn, you must go to lectures. They are so in depth and intriguing they are unlike any other professors. Lastly, go to his office hours. To just talk to him is a pleasure.
Andrews class was very enjoyable and gives you many opportunities to succeed.
Andrew is and will continue to be the best professor i have ever had. He is truly a compassionate human and actually cares about his students.
Andrew is an amazing professor! He made class so enjoyable and interesting, which made showing up to class no problem. Hes a super sick dude and he really cares about his students. He is always willing to help make sure students get the grade they want. It was a super dope class and I would 100% take it again.
Definitely take a class with Andrew. His lectures are never boring and you end up learning a lot without necessarily realizing it.
Andrew challenges his students in ways that many professors don't. A typical model is three exams that you have to throw up temporarily memorized information onto. Andrew gets students to creatively engage with the material, and apply it to real lived experience. He deeply cares about all of his students, and is always there to lend a hand.
Andrew was an awesome professor to have. He made my first semester as a college student a lot better with comedy when Im not having the best day. This guy is awesome and has great intentions. If you put in the effort, you will earn a good grade in the class.
Andrew is an intelligent professor with tons of knowledge on the topic. He is kind and considerate of student stress levels and emotional health.
Great teacher all around, would definitely recommend to anyone.
Andrew is really compassionate about philosophy, which makes his lectures super interesting. Not only that, he is genuinely compassionate to his students. He really cares about students learning the material, rather than memorization. That is why he is a strict grader, but I dont think thats a bad thing as he allows for full point corrections.
This guy is a real gem. Honestly, I mean, he got me interested in philosophy in the first place. I took an intro ethics class from him a while back, then took his Existentialism class (Phil. 4070). What an interesting lecturer and a great guy who really cares about his students. Really accessible and really helped me with my writing too.
If you have the chance to take Professor Chapman, please do. Not only is he incredibly intelligent, he is the most genuine, sincere, caring professor I have ever had the pleasure of meting. He genuinely cares about students on a deep, personal level and goes above and beyond what it means to be a traditional instructor. 12/10
Hands down the reason I chose to major in Philosophy. Awesome teacher, awesome guy. Take. His. Class. You're missing out if you've never taken a class with Andrew Chapman.
Professor Chapman was awesome! You can tell he really cares about the subject matter that he is teaching and all of his lectures are very engaging. I took his class just to fulfill a credit I needed and if you put forth any effort whatsoever you will get the grade you want.
Professor Chapman cares about you as HUMANS before you as a STUDENT. Because of this he's one of the best professors I've had in my college career and just makes you want to learn, which is extremely easy when he is able to present such complex concepts in such a simple way. He talks fast but if you are paying attention he is extremely clever.
Gives extra credit opportunities, can do test corrections on every test, tests are online and take home, gives awesome feedback, lot's of reading, you get lots of absences. Very nice teacher and is very understanding and wants to see his students succeed.
Made philosophy enjoyable and was lenient with all of our classes being online. He grades hard but gives you the opportunity to come in and fix your tests grade back to 100%, and is very easy to contact for office hours. He has been the best professor I've had this semester.
Andrew is by FAR one of the most caring people I have ever met. He is extremely smart and does a great job at explaining things. Tests are hard but he is more than willing to help and lets you re-work things up to 100%. I cannot say enough positive things about him. He cares about his students as people and really loves what he does. 11/10 guy.
Chapman is a straight chiller. I personally didn't really enjoy the class because I'm not too fond of Philosophy, but he made it easy to pass. I never did any of the readings, and I still got an A. All you have to do is go to office hours to make up points on tests. Super caring guy and truly cares about his students.
Favorite professor so far. He gives really good lectures that you can tell he is passionate about. He is really funny and he cares about his students well-being and mental health. Tests can be a little difficult but you can go in afterwards and get all points back.
Andrew was by far the best teacher I had my first semester of college! So funny and entertaining. Even though I'm not super passionate about Philosophy, he made the topics interesting which motivated me to try hard. I learned a lot but wasn't stressed about passing.
Great professor, easy class that you can get a lot out of if you want to. Even just listening to lectures exposes you to interesting ideas and arguments. He definitely likes saying funny/controversial things, being seen as snarky- remember that he is a person who has biases too, don't just take his philosophy! (He would emphatically agree here)
So clutch and a great guy. Check out his Instagram, it's great.
Such a good teacher!! Really easy to talk to and ask questions. Makes the class fun!
Mr. Chapman is the absolute goat
Professor Chapman is hands down the most caring and kind teacher I've ever had. He teaches so enthusiastically you can tell he really loves it. He cares for each individual student and wants everyone to do their absolute best. He is so knowledgeable about everything it makes for a very fun time in class. I would take every class he teaches.
Andrew is the best professor I have ever had. Although his test may seem challenging at first, if you show up to office hours after you get a grade back and show that you care, you'll no doubt get a 100% on the exam. He'ssuper caring and non judgmental, he was very open with his students and ensured you felt valued. Best professor ever. Period.
so funny love this dude
Quite possibly the best professor ever, cares about his students and teaches the material in a way that makes students want to learn it. Highly recommend
Andrew is just a really good guy who clearly loves teaching and loves philosophy. The material is difficult, but he presents it in a lot of different ways to make sure you get it. Lectures were entertaining and energetic. He will work with you as much as you want so you get a good grade. Very highly recommended.
I LOVE Chapman! He wants you to succeed and to understand the lecture material. Chapman is a genuinely good guy, and you can tell that he's not just one of those profs who are there for their own health. You will do well in this course and Chapman makes sure of it.
Best professor ever. Very flexible. Tests make up the grade but just go to office hours.
I have never had a professor who truly cares about his students success as much as Andrew does. The material is pretty difficult and this class is all lecture based but if you take notes and ask questions the material is not bad. By meeting with him after tests you can easily get an A+ in the class. Best professor ever.
Amazing professor who truly cares about his students. Loved going to this class and was very sad when it ended.
Andrew is the best teacher I have ever had. All of the 5 stars are well deserved. He is very caring about his students, and all he wants is for you to understand the material. You can get you scores back on all of the tests, you just have to talk to him in his office hours. If you get an opportunity to take this class, you wont regret it.
Andrew is funny and relatable while teaching. While in lecture he doesnt really like technology so hed prefer paper and pen notes but its obviously your preference. Only homework was to read and Exams were available for a week and you can make corrections on them. I loved this class
Andrew is a great professor. He genuinely cares about his students well-being and wants what is best for you. The class is structured in a way that you get what you want out of it. There is a lot of reading assigned, but there is little consequence to not doing it. Attendance is 'mandatory' with 9 absences allowed. Grades only come from the final.
Good luck finding a professor with more passion for teaching, philosophy, and his students than Andrew (you wont). He has a unique ability to disseminate seemingly complicated information in relatable, funny, gettable ways. He cares deeply for his students and is extremely understanding, encouraging, and willing to work with you. The best.
Andrew is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He is inclusive to all students and seems to genuinely care for us. He teaches material in an understandable and interesting way. If you pay attention and take notes you will do well! We can ask questions regarding potential test material and allows for test corrections too! Recommend for sure!!
This is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had. He will make sure you get an A, and provides very detailed feedback. He is very flexible with his office hours and is real with students. The exams are take-home because he understands that students have lives. He is the highest rated professor and tbh it makes sense because hes a legend!
Andrew is the best! Super knowledgeable and clearly cares about his students. He has a flexible attendance policy and exam-make-up opportunities. He's super understanding and just a great prof all around.
Such a funny dude. Andrew is absolutely engaging to listen to and I loved taking his class- wouldn't come on here to review if I didn't! He makes philosophy so interesting and explains things so well. King of the hill.
Great teacher
He is the best!
Professor Chapman (Andrew) really cares about philosophy. Rather than the class being centered around the memorization of ideas and people, Andrew really tries to impart wisdom in his lectures and helps students know HOW to think. His lectures are extremely in-depth, meaningful, and funny too! Favorite philosophy professor
Andrew has single handily been the best teacher/professor I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. He never has a presentation prepared, he's so skilled in the topic that he is able to stand in front of the class and just talk. He wants everyone to get an A . I have never attended a lecture where I'm itching to get up and leave.
One of the best professor I have ever had, loves his class, and just wants you to pass, every class is fun and it's a blast to be in. Would love to take this class all over again.
Amazing, theres nothing more to say
Professor Chapman is literally the best teacher I've ever had, college or otherwise. He is a charismatic, kind, awesome professor whose sole motivation is the betterment of his students. His lectures were always interesting and fun, and there is only on grade: a final project that if you put effort into and are honest about, you will succeed. 10/10
Best teacher Ive ever had. Truly wants you to do well and is there to support you. Not focused on numbers or grades and gives you the chance to actually learn the material.
I really enjoyed Andrew's class. He's a super nice guy and you can tell he's very into the content of the class. He keeps things interesting with weird stories, but also gets into some really important topics. I loved going to class every day and appreciate that he didn't focus on grades at all, allowing students to focus more on the material.
Let me preface this by saying I only review profs who are incredibly praiseworthy or overwhelmingly disappointing. Andrew is the former. Frankly, it was a blessing to have him as a professor. He will challenge you to use what you already know to help you, personally, understand what he's saying. I've never had a prof care so deeply for students.
This dude is goated, he is ridiculously smart, open to debate, happy to help, and an overall high class G. Big ups Chapman you be running this shiz.
Chapman is amazing. Don't think about it, just sign up for the class. I don't even need to explain, just see for yourself.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Take his class he is so amazing!!! You can work together on exams and you get a week + to do them. Easy A and hes rly cool
He is so kind and considerate especially when it comes to due dates. He is super passionate about philosophy and all of the concepts he teaches which makes his lectures super interesting.
The hype is real with Chapman. He's the highest rated professor from CU and for good reason. Waking up to make it to his 9 am was 100% worth it. You would be hard pressed to find a professor as smart, thoughtful, compassionate, caring, funny, and overall brilliant in the same way Chapman is. Probably one of the greatest professors I will ever have.
Best Professor at CU Boulder!
Andrew is the best professor I have had at CU! Very understanding and funny.
Andrew is amazing, incredible, and effervescent. He is honest, a true Kantian. He knows a lot about the content (uses exactly 1 slide the whole semester, for visual reference) and is so confident when working with students. He is engaging and truly wants you to learn. He cares so deeply for his students, and is always available. Best prof ever!!!!!
Andrew is the best professor I've had at CU so far. He did a great job of teaching us philosophy while also making it interesting and easy to understand, and the class was very low stress. You can tell that he genuinely wants every student to succeed, and he was really cool about me missing a lot of class when I was having mental health issues.
Amazing guy!
professor chapman is incredible. he is such a caring, kind person who truly wants every one of his students to succeed and do well no matter what. he bends over backward to help every student do well in his class and makes lectures so funny and interesting. I was never stressed about this class and enjoyed it so much!
Andrew is a super smart and cool prof who makes class enjoyable. The content is a little confusing at times but he will explain it over and over until you get it. Definitely recommend taking this class.
literally the best
He is so bomb. Take his class. Easy af.
Mr. Chapman was easily my most enjoyable class and I actually look forward to going. He really sets a good example and isn't like most professors. Actually cares about you and your well-being.
This might not make sense to some but Andrew would do SO well on tumblr. Witty. Somewhat of a cryptid. I would also like to clarify from some of the other reviews. Andrew is DOCTOR Chapman, if you're going to address him formally. You can tell he earned it. His teaching is phenomenal.
Dr. Chapman has been one of my most favorite professors here at CU. Not only was his class extremely interesting, he was very passionate about what he was teaching. Dr. Chapman was very funny in but always in a respectful manner. He was also extremely concerned with the well being of his students which shows how kind he is. Overall wonderful class!
I cannot recommend Chapman enough. He made going to class a highlight of my day.
this guy rocks. literally changed my life.
Andrew is a wonderful instructor and person in general. His lectures were inspiring and he had an egalitarian view on the classroom. We took a vote at the beginning of the semester as to how the course would be conducted, and he was accommodating to all our reactions. I believe he was the best professor of my collegiate career!
Great Teacher!
