Though I'm not doing so well in this class, if you show up to lecture every time you should have no problem with this class. It's mostly memorization, but he gives about 24 random quizzes, and those are easy (they are on the PPslides he gave that day). If you can do that easily, then you'll be fine.

You don't have to go to class every day. If you go, there's a good chance you'll get bonus points for that day. There's no homework, only tests. He's a pretty boring professor who rambles on a lot but overall the class is fine and fairly easy. I didn't put too much effort into it and still got a good grade.

I could've fallen asleep listening to him teach. Although clearly passionate about what he taught, his voice was too monotone and lectures were boring and seemed unnecessary.

He is so boring & can be rude. His voice is very monotone, I could fall asleep every class. There isn't a final unless you wanted to take it to take over your worst test grade. He does bonus points online. I barely put effort in & got a B in the class. Dont bother buying a book, I never opened mine. To study, I went on quizlet & found study sets.

I didnt do well on ONE test so I had to take the (not mandatory) final to strike out that bad grade. He didnt grade my test right and I was set up to fail... My grade was a 69.8% and he REFUSES TO ROUND UP. If you are taking this class because of a FIG, drop it! Its not worth it, you either get and A or fail and it really depends on him!

FS 1030 is the go-to class for non-STEM majors to get their science gen-ed requirements out of the way. Although boring, monotone, and cluttered; Dr. Clarke has a passion for food science and a lot of his lectures have interesting material and offer easy extra credit opportunities. Tests are heavily memorization based, but nothing too difficult.

I took his meat class. It's a catastrophe. He assumes you have all the food science knowledge even though everything he teaches is 30 years outdated. His exams are a complete mystery. He also makes you feel stupid for doing poorly. Luckily, I was one of the students to get an A, but I sympathized with the others.

Gives so much extra credit and it really helps. Grades only on exams. Very easy if you attend class and fill in the notes. He cares about this class a lot. His extra credit questions are always on the exams. If you go on quizlet you can find so many study guides that are almost like the exams.

Do not take his class! I have friends in the same class with other profs and they actually enjoy it. He is so annoying and arrogant and unless you want to hear someone talk about how much they love meat get another teacher!! This class is easy it might as well be enjoyable too.

Easily worst professor Ive ever had as a student in general. Most monotone speaker Ive ever come across and makes no attempt at making lectures anything but putridly boring and a waste of time as the whole entire class is on quizlet. Extremely condescending and rude to his students, much more so than any professor/teacher Ive ever had in my life

Dr. Clarke is a respectable man, however, his lectures were a bit fast and not so clear. We took about 5 FS exams over the course of the semester. These really did not have a lot of info that was in the notes. I did enjoy the extra credit he gave out, but it seems that when you fail the exams, that other credit will be just barely getting you by.

Clarke is great. Definitely passionate about what he does. He gives pop quizzes at least once a week with 3-4 questions each that you answer for extra credit points. There are 5-6 pop quizzes a unit and the quiz questions and answers are word for word on the tests. If you study the lecture slides and the pop quizzes you will do great!

Go to class! He does small little quizzes that are for extra credit. Literally the only thing that made me pass, if I had done one less I would have failed and that is not an exaggeration. He is a nice person, but his class is extremely hard.

Not particularly difficult. Show up to class and take notes and you're pretty much guaranteed to have a good grade in the class. Gives out LOTS of bonus points, sometimes online, sometimes in person, so you should always attend lecture just in case. Additionally drops one grade out of 6 tests, on top of giving out bonuses.

I think Prof. Clarke has a passion for his subject, but he does a bad job communicating. It's an introductory class and he makes it seem like we should know everything that he's been studying for 35+ years. He speaks down to everyone like they are dumb. Very monotone and rambles, hard to listen to. Tests are nothing like the lectures

FS1030 is an easy science credit, with lots of extra credit opportunities. The lectures can be boring, but attending is key for bonus points. I found unstuck study and the textbook super helpful for test prep - definitely made studying more efficient.

I would not recommend taking this class unless you absolutely have to. The only grades in this class are 5 out of 6 exams and bonus points received for attendance. The slides Dr. Clarke uses are extremely old and he has an extremely monotone voice and teaching style. It's hard to hear him and harder to pay attention. Do not take unless you have to.
