He's a totally awesome teacher!! And very eager to help. He's pretty funny and awesome to talk to. Not a lot of homework, just attend class and you're good!!!
Enthusiastic, great guy. Told our class about this site. I'm sure he will be checking back regularly.
He is a really engaging and good teacher. He is very funny at times, and always helpful. I would definetly recomend him for a teacher.
There is a lot of homework, but it's only there to benefit the student in the long run. I really look forward to coming to this class; he has an upbeat attitude and is extremely helpful.
Great teacher! always loved going to class there was never a dull moment! he helps a lot with is advice on your papers! the only bad part is,... his handwriting is kinda unreadable! =) but overall one of my favorite teachers and i highly reccomend him!
cohen is unable to control his classes. writing is rarely the topic, and when it is he has few insights. he is nice, but i wouldn't recommend him as a teacher.
Andrew was very helpful, and was always very interesting to listen/talk to. He is a great teacher! The homework & papers he assigned were always related to a subject we were covering. He made the class feel easy and enjoyable. It became my favourite class, and I look forward to taking future classes with him. We even talked about this site in class
Not a fun class, but a fun teacher. He's kind and always available for assistance.
Andrew is a pretty good teacher and is very knowledgeable of the subject matter, however he can come off as a wuss sometimes and hates getting off on tangents. Yet he's very eloquent and articulate, so whatever you learn from him will be very precise.
The Mythology class itself covers too much ground and will work your tail off, but Andrew is a teacher on a quest for understanding and will inspire you. Do the work and participate in discussion and he will reward you. Great teacher and a fine human being. Very fair.
Andy is an excellent teacher. Funny, witty, articulate - made this class extremely enjoyable. I liked the way he encouraged all of the class to bond with each other - felt like we were learning together and not just pasing through. I recommend him for any class.
Andrew's a good instuctor. Homework's okay, essays are fun because u get 2 choose ur own topics. His methods of teaching work well&make u think. Answers all ?'s&responds fast 2 emails. Show up to class&ONTIME, Prepared=HW completed, & Participate=Interacting, U will do fine. He's laid back though professional at the same time. All in all=Fun Class!
Andrew is an awesome writing teacher! I wasn't a fan of writing but he has changed my outlook on writing classes. We did three major papers which he let us choose whateve topic we wanted. He is very clear and helpful. The BEST writing teacher I have taken so far.
Lit of Genocide - First time this class has been offered. Very intense subject but Andrew's teaching style made it fascinating. Articulate, easy going, extremely helpful. always available to help. Group participation and fun final project got class involved. Take this teacher!
Andrew is one of the best teachers at PCC, by far. Highly recommended for any class he teaches... he's fair, available, and interactive with his students. I'd take another one of his classes any day.
Andrew is engaging, funny, and very bright. He does have issues controlling his classes every now and then, but college students should know how to behave. If you ask a question very rarely will you be left unsatisfied with the answer.
One of the best teachers i've ever had. Always willing to help you if you have any questions. His assignments are clear. Everyday you have a discussion based on some reading material, some long, some short. I was never a good writer, but Andrew showed me my weaknesses and how to improve upon them. He gives extra credit. I highly recommend Andrew.
I always say the best teachers are not the ones that are your friend, but the ones you have to wrestle with. You really have to wrestle with this guy and you still wind up with a B usually. He is tough, but worth it once you get his teaching style and make it out of the class.
Intro to Philosophy of Religion.. I think the best class I have taken so far. God he's such a great fun teacher and completely adorable. HE is very helpful, clear and really understanding
The best, if you have any qualms about writing. Easily one of the most sincere people i've ever met, always quick to return emails and very eager to help. If you hate writing, he will make you love it.
Mr. Cohen is awesome. He really taught me a lot about how to become a better writer. For my class he assigned readings from the internet if you read what he asks and participate in class youll do great. He assigned like 4 or 5 papers but he is always willing to meet with you and help you out. He tends to joke around with people so dont take offense
He is the one of best instructors who really knows how to teach. He really makes u better at writing and actually cares about students. His material is interesting and wouldn't make us buy another expensive book. Overall, he broadened my view by covering a lot of topics. He makes classes really enjoyable and benefinial.
Andrew is an excellent instructor! He's thorough and cares about his students & their writings. He is easy to understand & talk with. As long as you read whats required, write whats required, show up to class and participate you will do just fine. I found him cordial and his class was pleasant. He is interesting and class was fun! Good Job!
Learning to write well is essential to all of college and professional life, so I advise taking a class that's challenging and yet gives you a chance to earn an A if you work at it. That's Andrew's class. You'll have to do everything expected of you, including writing, which can be hard, but an A is likely if you do your best and have SOME ability.
Andrew's a very professional, lenient, and organized teacher. He has a great sense of humor and is friendly. If you want to take WR121, take it from Cohen!
Very passionate about writing and knows his stuff. He's fast at getting papers back and writes a lot of comments! Lots of discussion so if you don't like speaking, then this class probably isn't for you. No textbook was required for my class!
Andrew is a very intelligent, well-read professor who is passionate about writing. He understands the craft well and helps guides students along to do the same. He manages the class dynamic well. Taking this class has been the best experience I have had at PCC so far, a large part of that due to Andrew.
Andrew is an excellent teacher. There is no book required, so class discussion and self direction (to online articles he asks you to read)are important. He will challenge you as a writer no matter your skill level, so be prepared to work hard, but if you want a good solid foundation for college writing, you'll be glad you took his class.
I'm not sure if it's just my class or what, but he seems to be constantly unimpressed with the comments and level of participation. He often makes snide remarks at students. I don't really like the way he handles his students. I don't feel comfortable approaching him. Subject matter verrrrrry dull..
Andrew is my favorite teacher at PCC. I've taken his Lit of Genocide class, Mythology, and Writing 121. He's incredibly intelligent, helpful, and has a great sense of humor. You are definitely going to need to come to class and be involved with discussions, but I would recommend his classes to anyone. He's the best!
I loved having him as a teacher. He listens to what the students have to say and he gives you help when you need it. You want to be there everyday and be prepared to read articles.
One of the best writing teachers I've ever had. He is extremely fair and seems to genuinely care about us and our writing. The class discussions on our readings (essays found online) were always fun and interesting. You can probably get by without pushing yourself in this class, but you'll miss out. Do your best, and you'll leave a better writer.
This is the most boring class I have ever had in my life. Every class all we did was to review each others stories while this teacher played on the computer. This was a total waste of money. If you really want to learn to write creativly, than don't take this teacher.
Very interesting, helpful reviews. Yes, peer reviews were a major part of the class, but he's always willing to help any student with their work. He loves him some twisted, dark realism literature, though.
If you're looking for lavish praise on sloppy stories you whipped up over the weekend, this class is not for you. The readings, assignments, and group discussions focused heavily on examining masters of the craft and getting your own writing process down, ultimately developing what it takes to keep writing after the term ends. Worth every penny.
He is an excellent teacher and so invested in his students. I'm lucky to have had his class.
Andrew Cohen's class was a waste of my time. Yes, i got an A, it was very easy. but he was awful at explaining papers and left us to our own devices most of the time. He sets readings that we never really go over or that pertain to the class. its ridiculous. class dragged on forever, easy A, not an enjoyable experience.
Great class, fun discussions, and engaging stories. You have to do some writing and analysis which makes the class and stories much more understandable and fun. Andrew is very helpful and gives you a lot of freedom in your writing. Andrews class discussions make you look forward to attending each class.
I took the online version of WRT 115 with Andrew and I thought he was great! He was extremely supportive and helpful. I learned a great deal that prepared me for WRT 121. My only issue is that it would have been nice if he had made available some of the assignments with a little more lead time. But for the most part he let us know what he expected.
Andrew was a phenomenal writing instructor. He's encouraging, inspiring, and enthusiastic. No one dropped the class the entire quarter and almost everyone showed up to every single class. One of the best instructors I've ever had and I hope to take another class from him in the future.
Andrew is a great teacher. He isn't easy, but he's not so difficult that you won't get a good grade. He makes you work for an A, and he requires that you meet with him twice per term, which turns out to be very helpful since he's great at editing your work. You're allowed two free classes to miss, but after four he'll fail you. He's a good teacher
Cohen was a great teacher. We had only 4 major papers throughout term. He picks socially interesting topics (prisons etc)and we spent a lot of time socializing and brainstorming in class. Hes specific on grading, just take his advice and your sure to get an A. Hes quirky and fun, would love to take his genocide class as well. Recomend him.
Great professor. No textbook used, lots of in class discussions over social issues and other interesting topics. The assignments are straightforward and if you put in the time and effort an 'A' would be achievable. Very helpful in improving your writing.
Andrew is one of the absolute best teachers I have ever had. I HIGHLY recommend that you take his class. He is an amazingly inspiring guy. If you are debating on whether or not you should, here is your sign to do so. However, he makes you work for your grade which is well deserved at the end of the term :)
I had Andrew for both writing 121 and Creative Writing Nonfiction. I have to say both classes were amazing and I was really impressed with both of them. Everyone had a great time in his creative writing class! I also like how he requires you to visit him two times each term to give you the feedback you need in class. I highly recommend him!
Andrew is brazenly rude. Although he is a good teacher, he is exceptionally disrespectful. I never understood why he disliked me; however, he had no qualms about showing his disdain for me. I'm not the best writer but I consistently got A's and B's on his assignments. I always left his class feeling bad about myself. Would not recommend.
No textbook. Lots of online readings. Would not recommend!!! Teacher did NOT know what he was talking about. He would give feedback on rough drafts that would make you assume you're going to get a high grade, then he would fail you for something he didnt mention you needed to fix. Be sure to meet with him more than he asks. ON EVERY ASSIGNMENT.
Andrew is a very smart and caring person. Most importantly, he wants to see his students succeed both in his classroom and beyond. His classes are very interactive, and your work may be shown on the board sometime during the term. This is nerve wracking, but helps improve your writing a great deal. I would absolutely recommend Andrew.
Andrew is hands down my favorite teacher I've ever had. He'll make you work super hard- his classes are not easy. However, my writing improved dramatically. He's very understanding and funny. His class is discussion based, you will have to talk. 100% would recommend.
Andrew is a great teacher! He learned all our names the first week and he kindof sounds like Billy Crystal at times. He has a good sense of humor and is very into what he teaches. He is also really good at giving feedback, it's impossible to get a bad grade on a paper if you go in and see him during office hours.
Andrew is probably one of the best instructors I have ever had, I liked him so much I took his LIT class the next quarter. He'll make you work for your grade, he gives great feedback and he's always available to answer questions whether via email or in conference. I would highly recommend him. His humor is just an added bonus.
Make sure you ask very specific questions, because if not you will get very vague answers. He will give you general feed back on rough drafts, and then dock you points on your final copy for stuff he did not mention in your drafts, so ask questions like "What would you dock this paper for". He also often made offensive comments in class.
Andrew is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Honestly, it seems like the people leaving bad reviews probably just didn't pay enough attention in class because he makes it very clear what he wants in our essays. He doesn't hold your hand through each assignment, but this is college and that should be expected.
I really enjoyed Andrew's class. He led great class discussions that got everyone thinking. He was engaging without getting too personal and always stayed professional. I feel like I am a stronger writer coming out of this class.
Mr. Cohen is a really intelligent guy that truly wants you to succeed in his class. His grading system can be a bit confusing, and he is not fabulous at replying to your emails, but he will help you LOADS when he does get back to you. Definitely a good class for someone that doesn't feel terribly comfortable with their writing ability.
I really enjoyed Andrew's class. He really cares about the success of his students in class and at the college in general. Great for first term students. You are required to meet with him at least twice during the term, which was super helpful. Don't take any other hard classes at the same time, this class will consume your life but it's worth it.
This is probably one of my fav classes I have taken at PCC this far. Andrew is very kind, insightful and energetic about what he is teaching on. There is a lot of reading and even if he doesnt take attendance, he will know if youre there or not. Most of the class is disscussions so actually try to do the readings or you wont know whats going on
cohen is totally a cool guy,i wouldve liked his class more if things felt less rushed, we had new papers thrown at us before we could edit and finish the last one. he lectures the ENTIRE period. but he worked with my struggles and wanted to help me pass knowing I was having a hard time keeping up and balancing my personal life.
Andrew was a fairly solid teacher. At times his expectations for assignments weren't well communicated, but he wass always open to feedback on ways to make his class better. The amount of reading assigned could at times be overwhelming, but overall it was a good class and my writing improved significantly.
Professor Cohen is a great teacher. He's honest in his feedback, but offers support, help, and advice if needed. It's not an easy A class. It's challenging at times. There's lots of reading, writing and re-writing. But you will likely learn valuable info that's applicable in your life/work.
I had my doubts initially, but now that term's mostly over I like him more. He likes to pick apart essays (online essays, previous + current assignments) together to see what works/doesn't work. I prefer the more individual feedback he gives in conferences (2+/term) and on homework. He's more lenient with due dates than most, but it is only 121.
Andrew Cohen is a super neat/understanding teacher. He has a broad way of thinking, and discusses cool various topics in class. He gives genuine interest when reading our essays, and encourages for his students to be more interactive in the classroom. A bit challenging homework, but as long as you keep up with due dates, all should be fine.
He requires 2 conferences for the class and these conferences are really helpful in knowing what you need to do to improve the paper you've written. You basically spend the whole term working on 3 different essays then a short Final essay. So it's a lot of work and he grades a bit on the harsher side but overall I think he's a good teacher.
I have known a few people who have taken this class as well as myself. Let me just say now that I am not a good writer whatsoever and he let others pass who were even worse than me. All he wants is for you to do the work and he will do everything in his power to make you pass.
Lots of papers but they are easy to get A's on (one due almost every class). Responsive to emails. Nice, open minded guy with lots of energy.
Best teacher I've had at PCC. He has a great personality and his lectures are always interesting. It was a pleasure to write for a teacher who really expects the best out of you
Andrew is great. His class is very discussion based and is overall very engaging. I would definitely recommend his mythology class to anyone needing English credits.
Andrew is incredibly accommodating and kept our class engaged despite being online. The best way to pass is to be social; if you discuss and engage during class and you will get an A. Essays throughout the course were fairly short and much easier to write compared to harder classes.
Andrew did a great job adapting to remote teaching. He gives plenty of opportunities to succeed if you're willing to put in the work and communicate your concerns. He encourages students to take advantage of school resources and provided incentive for doing so. Definitely take his writing 121 class.
Great professor. He challenges you to grow as a writer and genuinely cares about your development. Thought provoking prompts and reading material and lots of feedback, he's extremely approachable so don't be afraid to ask questions. There's a lot of group work, workshops, and conferences, but it's all extremely valuable! 10/10.
I have taken Mr. Cohen's class twice now, once for college writing and recently creative nonfiction and can't recommend him enough as a teacher. I felt like he genuinely cared about how we were doing with both our writing as well as personally. He is kind, funny, and I looked forward to class every week. I would 100% take him again in the future.
Andrew was my favorite teacher this term. He requires Zoom classes with the camera on and your attendance is absolutely required. He is super engaged, cares about your and your work, provides extensive feedback, and creates a fun class environment. Breakout rooms in each class. Would take another class with him anytime.
Andrew Cohen is an amazing storyteller, very inclusive with each student, and took the time to know everyone personally. He pushes his studies to be great writers and gives constructive feedback. His end goal is to help everyone grow. I would absolutely take another one of his classes!
I thought writing was one of my passions, that died quickly with this class. Its so boring, maybe its the fact that its online but I would definitely not recommend this class unless you can take it in person because otherwise youll be bored out of your mind and your love for writing (and life) will be questioned..
Andrew is fabulous at helping you grab your inner writer and produces a very safe environment to do so. Pay attention to the lecture topics, the little things are Gold! Don't procrastinate and you'll be fine for all assignments. Absolutely Do not Miss the chance to take one of his classes.
Mr cohen is one of those teachers that genuinely takes the time to help his students. teaching is his thing. he would always include me when I wasn't participating much. he requires you to meet with him for a grade in his class where he, asked me about school and forced me to join tutoring when I told him I was struggling in another class.
An excellent instructor when it comes to writing. He gives great feedback, is very approachable, and expects his students to put the effort in. A gem.
Overall was a good class and a good teacher. But his grading was inconsistent at times and didnt give feedback on how the work could be done better. Just a heads up participation is HUGE in this class. Being on camera and joining in on discusión. Its not an option since he grades you on it. He is very lenient and understanding which is nice.
Andrew changed my life! He was such great a teacher, and while sometimes his comments on my writing were sometimes blunt they were very helpful! He takes the time to get to know his students and he does require you to have your camera on for class but that's a good thing as it makes the class more enjoyable. Great class! Great teacher.
We focused on three main essays. We worked on how to edit them and improve them. We read other essays and talked about the writing in them and what was done well or done poorly.
This class relies heavily on your classmates if they do not show up you kind of are in limbo for the class activities. Other than that if you enjoy writing and crafting your style please take! Really eye opening and challenging class but in a good way-
Professor is definitely a good guy. He's funny and bearable in the classroom. However, he isn't very accessible when it comes to outside of the classroom. He always takes a while to respond to emails and has canceled many of my REQUIRED conferences that I need to pass the class. Also, his feedback isn't always clear or understandable.
Prof Cohen is great! His classes are more discussions than lectures, you really don't need to take notes. Lots of readings, which are easily accessible, and small papers every week. He's an easy grader as well. He's pretty scatter brained and forgets to post assignments a lot, but this makes him very lenient when it comes to due dates.
I had Andrew Cohen last term: if you're searching for a discussion around ancient literature and myths, to talk about your point of view as a reader on a story: this is the class that you need. The professor listens and always engage with your point of view, and try to create a group discussion. Notes are not mandatory. Class is very easy.
If you never talk in class, he'll call on you for your thoughts, but only because he seems genuinely curious as to what everyone's thinking. Mr. Cohen loves spontaneous class discussions, which were often thought-provoking. Lots of drafts due almost every day of class. Just don't fall behind. You don't have to be a good writer to get an A.
