Friendly and funny. If you are a skeptic of anything, Professor Dewald will be on your side. This is one of the best classes I ever took in college. Being a fan of the Eagles or the Phillies will help you greatly!

Easy to understand and stay attentive in class. He's energetic and explains things well. Powerpoint notes are available, but he give out pop quizzes sometimes. Exams are all multiple choice and pretty easy. I rarely used my textbook because the exams are based on mainly the lectures, so that was kind of a waste of money for a new book. -__-

His lectures consist of entertaining Powerpoint presentations and you will do fine on the exams as long as you go to class and study your notes. He's very comedic and makes class as fun as possible for such a large lecture. The tests are challenging, but not too bad as long as you study the material (which you should have from class).

Excellent and interesting lecturer if you do attend his class. He uses good examples during class to help you understand the material easily. Attendance is not mandatory, but is great for laughs. He emails the slides and gives a lot of extra credit. Exams are multiple choice and not bad if you study his notes, buying the book is a waste of money.

He's a really funny, interesting guy. Makes class enjoyable, even when the subject matter was a bit dull. He's hot too! I totally had a crush on him which made going to class easier haha!

Someone get a picture of this guy up cuz he's hott! Besides that, he is a great teacher. EXTREMELY clear is all his explanations & funny as hell! I wish I would've taken the course from him the first time instead of Unit Mastery! Oh & the textbook is completely useless. I never once opened it.

Great class. =] Powerpoints are interesting and I think his lectures were pretty easy to follow along. Exams and quizzes aren't that bad, but that doesn't mean you don't have to study, either. But his Powerpoints slim down the material you have to study, so that's really good. Hah, and he's funny; made class all the more good!

This was one of the best classes I ever took. Even though Professor Dewald can be a bit "harsh" at time when he breaks your heart with facts such as "we evolved from pond scum" and "your dog does NOT love you", he still backs it up with very clear evidence and never puts anybody down. Also He can talk to the dead!(ok not really)but its a good trick

A pretty easy and relaxed class, Andy (that is what he makes you call him) is constantly trying to act like the 'cool guy.' It is a bit annoying but makes him relatable at the same time. Tests are all multiple choice or T/F. If you come to class it shouldn't be hard to get a decent grade.

Great class, I enjoyed it a lot. Made me a lot more interested in psychology. He explains things really clearly and uses funny examples. He's funny, cool, and not bad to look at :)

Easy class. Lectures have funny pictures that help you remember. Some really trippy pix too. Teacher is hilarious but swears moderately. Can't go without his coffee either. A lot of extra credit. I did no EC and got an A. Really laid back about the exam. 4 quiz that determine attendence and participation. They are random.

The guy is a good teacher. Open to any questions you may have and will go out of his way to help you. The lectures are easy to sit through, informative, and often funny. Just take some notes and you'll get an A.

My faaaavorite professor this semester. Andy is hilarious and makes a 8:30 class not so bad to attend. He sends the power points out right before the exams. so all in all its a pretty cruise class.

Excellent Professor! Goes out of his way to help students. Lecture are interesting and funny. Attendence is not mandatory, but he give randon quizes to determine participation and attendence. Be careful this can make or break you. Overall I would recommend this class!

Best course I've ever taken. Andy is clear and concise, illustrates points well, and makes everything interesting. Exams are easy if you pay attention in class. Excellent discussion of Critical Thinking, better explanation of Scientific Method than Minke's Methodology course. Would take a course with him again if I wasn't graduating.

PSY 429 was absolutely a fun class. He proved a lot of things wrong and the lectures was explained in such clarity. He really got things straight with thinking skills. But the final exam killed me because he was serious about paying attention (he gave us history date questions on a multiple choice test)

Makes an 830 class interesting. Recommend going to class even though notes are put up online. Easy class but need to study for the exams.

He is a young professor, seeing things from student's point of view. He is very understanding. His lectures are fun. Although it was at 8:30am, I never wanted to miss. You will always laugh in his lectures. EXAMS are easy, all multiple choice. Extra credit given inconsistently. POP QUIZ for attendance grade.

He's a super cool guy that you can relate to. his powerpoints are super helpful and you just gotta study them for the tests. his tests can be a bit tricky but if you study hard you'll be fine. Gives pop quizzes all throughout the semester so you dont wanna miss class. But his jokes are funny!

Checks attendance through mandatory quizzes randomly spaced throughout the semester. Quizzes are easy. Exams are easy and curved in favor of the students. There are no assignments only midterms. He has a very clear and goal oriented lecturing style. I highly recommend.

He's a fantastic teacher. His class is hard but fun. He is by far the best teacher UHM has. He makes the topics interesting to you so you can relate to the information and you don't forget what he teaches you.

This professor is super funny. I actually lived on the other side of the island and he made going to class worth it. He makes it easy to remember things, but you really do have to keep up and study on your own. Really good prof. though, highly recommended.

Took this class via UH Manoa's Outreach program, which is completely online. He replies to emails late or not at all. Quizzes aren't timed, but exams are timed. A couple discussion questions will be posted. He posts study guides and powerpoints for each chapter as well. Overall, it is an easy introductory class.

I've had Andy for PSY 100, PSY 250, and PSY 325. He is a great teacher and makes sure his students learn the material. Has no study guides for exams but posts the power points used in class online. Test require some studying because your grade is entirely based on 3-4 exams. No homework. Good teacher

I love Andy! He knows his stuff, and will definitely help you if you need it. Your grade is based purely on 3 exams, a non-cumulative final, and random quizzes throughout the semester. His lectures are fun and entertaining to go to. I definitely recommend this class!

Take this course if you are in need of experimental psychology course (Psy X2X) or if you want to take one of the most interesting courses offered at UH. Andy is very engaging and funny. The readings are thought-provoking and insightful. 2 Exams, 1 five page paper, and 5 one page reading responses. 2 books were required, but only really used 1.

EXCELLENT TEACHER!! Made me really interested in psychology and learned so much! He makes the slides available online after reviewing them but you don't get the full understanding unless you attend class for him to thoroughly explain. Random easy pop quizzes make attendance a must. Great teacher, but you do need to study a little. No text needed!

Andy's very entertaining. Connects subject to real life, so it's always interesting. However, not a totally easy class, STUDY! Everything on the exams are in his lectures so attendance is mandatory but he puts his PPTS online which arent always clear so reading the textbk always helps. Online HW and pop quizzes, these are easy if you go to class.

Andy is the best professor I've had here at UH. He makes the lectures easy to understand, and he's really cool. Not to mention, he's really intelligent. He's super nice too; he took time out of his busy schedule to meet with me for office hours. Great professor, and he's REALLY good looking. Highly recommend!

Technically, I wasn't in his class, but I've sit in on his lectures a couple times with a friend, and holy mother of god. He's hilarious. Very quick witted, intelligent, and can answer any question when asked. I learned a lot from sitting in his class. Wished I signed up for him!

Awesome teacher. Keeps you tuned in to his lectures. Don't really have to take notes in class cuz he posts up his powerpoints. Make sure you go to the attendance exams (4 altogether) and just study his lecture notes. He's good at relating to you cuz he's about the same age range.

Andy is very approachable and his lectures are always well organized and thorough. He only tests and quizzes on what is covered in class, so I never read the textbook. He makes class funny and enjoyable even though attendance isn't mandatory. However, he does give 4 random attendance quizzes over the semester, so be prepared.

Dewald is one of the best teachers I've had at UH. He's funny and seems like he's a jerk but he's super cool. He makes his class really interesting. His tests are very hard so you really have to know your stuff. I highly recommend this class.

Lot of content to go over. Read the textbook, go to the review sessions, study and do the homework and sign up for tons of extra credit. He's a funny guy who is very knowledgeable and passionate about the psychology field.

Very passionate about the subject, makes it interesting to learn about. Go to lectures as much as possible, because he gives lots of information and examples that aren't on the powerpoint. Tests every two chapters, reading the textbook never hurts but he goes over everything you need in class. Very approachable and humorous.

I did not care much for cognitive psychology before taking this class. I found the course material challenging but very interesting. He is a wonderful orator! The only complaint I have is his TA Sam. She is HORRIBLE! I received an A in the class and every time I asked for clarification she would talk to me like I was a slacker or hadn't studied.

I have taking Andy for a few psy classes now. He is head and shoulders above the rest great sense of humor makes you laugh.He only test on the lecture I haven't bought a book for any of his classes yet. Test are easy if you study the power points and attend lecture. attendance quiz's come up random. Only down side talks about his cat ALOT!

I took him for 100 and that wasnt so bad. I thought it was just me not studying hard enough. took him for 325 (now I wonder WTH was I thinking) and I regret it. Andy is a great prof, he's very helpful and open for discussion and concerns. but his exams are just ridiculous! you really have to know the work from inside-out, like the back of your hand

PSY 100 course. Professor Dewald is super funny and witty. He always talks about sex and cats at least once a lecture. Don't buy the textbook since there's review sessions and everything you need to know is in his power points. Never a dull moment in his class. His exams are a bit challenging but he offers extra credit.

4 exams, no study guides, but his TA posts reviews slides. He uploads all his slides, but the bulk of the test info is in his actual lecture, so I highly recommended you attend class. The exams can be tricky, but if you study well enough and go to all the lectures, you should be fine. Dewald is also very knowledgable and has a great sense of humor.

Psy isn't really my forte so had some issues remembering everything but still passed with minimal studying and reading. Funny, young guy. Actually super chill and laid back during his office hours. He has clear explanations and cute examples. Also, memes.

I cannot rate Dr. Dewald highly enough. He is the most charismatic and effective professor I've ever had. I wish I could take more of his classes or do post-graduate work with him. He's hilarious and a bit of a dork, but he is by no means easy. He wants you to work for your grade and takes his material fairly seriously. Take all his classes. All.

This is for Andrew Dewald's KCC class. Great class that was fun, interesting, and trouble-free if you come to his lectures and listen to him, which is easy to do since he is such a good lecturer. Plus I learned a lot of facts that can be applied to real life.

By far the best and funniest teacher I've ever had!! He seemed to be a little intimidating at first but after a few classes he's amazing. I didn't really study for this class but you need to study. He's a great resource for help if you up to him personally.

One of the best professors I've had at UHM. He's young and relatable. Very interesting presentations with tons of memes and jokes, despite the large amount of content covered. Exams are pretty simple and easy to pass as long as you do your weekly homework and take notes during class. Attendance quizzes are also relatively easy.

Tests not that bad. Lectures can be more verbose than necessary to convey concept, makes it harder to understand... Exams + quizzes. Attendance is NOT mandatory, but quizzes are announced in only class, SO either go to class OR check laulima for a quiz whenever you skip class. Exams not based on textbook, so not necessary to buy it.

I really really enjoyed this class, kinda sad I might not be taking another class from him again. He's very funny and cool! Most interesting Psy 100 class.. Other professors aren't this interesting or are probably more traditional. Plus, the reading really makes you think and even see things in a different way. 1010 would recommend this class

He knows how to click with the students and makes his lectures entertaining and understandable. If you want a class you'll enjoy for the whole semester with a chill teacher, don't hesitate to pick Dewald.

Definitely one of my most favorite professors! All powerpoints are uploaded ahead of time, and he won't test you on anything he didnt go over in class. His TA holds review sessions before each exam, and he makes sure they know whats going to be on the test. Online hw: a few questions each chapter. As long as you pay attention in class, you're good

I'm very interested in Psychology so this was probably easier for me that say, someone who isn't. His lectures are clear, he sends the power points (great to study from). Grades on a curve, exam questions can be tricky so know your stuff. Some may be put off by his sense of humor but I found him hilarious. Exams are mainly from lectures.

My favorite professor. So sad I'll probably never need another class from him. He's great because he's very smart, funny, and he's not biased so it's so much easier to understand what he's trying to explain.

Dr. Dewald is amazing. He is engaging, funny, and crazy smart. He is NOT an easy professor, he will make you THINK for yourself and work VERY hard for your grade. If you do not attend class, pay close attention, or take notes-You will Fail. His exams are hard. Study hard and know everything backwards! I have learned so much from taking his courses!

Dr. Dewald is an amazing professor. He's extremely helpful and there to help if you have any questions. Sometimes, he weaves in short stories during lecture to help you understand the content, which makes class more interesting. If you go to every class, you should have no problem with homework, quizzes, or exams.

Great lecturer. He makes sure to draw in his students with humor. Which adds a positive since his exams & course material were difficult and very confusing at times. He's much more distant and awkward out of class. Have at least 1 person in class to contact incase he happens to post his pop quiz online that day, so you don't miss out completely.

Dr. Dewald is a fair grader. If you go to class and pay attention instead of looking at your phone, you will most definitely do well in this class. His lectures are entertaining, interesting, and sometimes inspiring. He is very knowledgeable in and out of his science specialty, and will not hesitate to answer any questions. And he's hot!

Semester schedule is very organized and reliable, and reminders of assignments and quizzes are given consistently. Definitely recommend!

His lectures are quite humorous but can talk a bit fast sometimes. Test is a bit hard and reading from the textbook is quite helpful to understand certain areas. Attending lecture is somewhat necessary as some questions from the test are directly from the lecture.

Very interesting and informative. Incredibly smart. While the course content for this class is dry at best, he made lectures entertaining. Beware though, his tests can be tough. Simply memorizing the terms will not cut it. You need to be able to apply the concepts to random scenarios. Take him. Don't worry. You will be fine.

He used memes and gifs in his lectures. PSY was always an interest and he made it even more interesting.

I loved Dr. Dewalds class. As a double major, of all the upper level classes I have taken his was by far my favorite. He is relatable, extremely knowledgeable and keeps his class interesting with funny YouTube clips, and humorous commentary. I would highly recommend taking him for any required upper level classes!

So funny, great stories, never bored in that class, makes everything interesting, lots of experiments and you get to try out experiments in class, only graded on exams and pop up attendance quizzes. everything on the test is what you learned in class so take good notes, no need buy textbook. One of the best teachers i've had in my life.

Dr. Dewald was hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. He made psychology so interesting and made it easier to understand by being able to relate it to things we could also relate to. Don't skip class, his pop quizzes are based on things you'll only know if you go to the class. He keeps it interesting all the time. I def recommend!

Overall an amazing teacher (though he does make fun of politics quite a bit so if you don't want to have someone make fun of your beliefs I would suggest not taking his classes). He goes through material fairly quickly but adds in humor to make a very boring subject a bit more interesting. There are weekly quizzes in lab, and TA's all grade harsh.

Dr. Dewald is an AWESOME professor. His lectures are all online, but I recommend going to class and listen because he goes more into depth and explains more that are not on the powerpoints. Go to review sessions, it'll help. He's hilarious and on top of that, he has a cat! Haha.

Profz aren't required to make lectures interesting; however he is one of the few who make it fun; it actually made it easy to remember content that otherwise might be difficult. Easy attendance quizzes every once in awhile/other than that your grade is just based off of test scores. My only complaint is I got a book we didn't use much.

Amazing professor. Easy to talk to if you have an issue. Makes lecture interesting so its easy to pay attention. He can move a little bit fast so I suggest recording lectures so that you can focus on what he's saying and take quick notes then add more later. Make sure to keep up with homework and reviewing because tests are your grade.

Attendance is only required for lab, but I recommend going to lecture just because he's hilarious. Open note/book/google search for quizzes during lab. There's also a group research project in labs. He'll drop your lowest exam score as well. Great guy, highly recommend his classes.

Funniest professor I have ever had. If you enjoy cats and psychology, he's your guy. A little hard to make his office hours sometimes, but that's ok. His TAs are always available.

A great character who is quite funny. He loves his cat, so be prepared to hear about it. Dr. Dewald knows what he is talking about, although attendance is not specifically mandatory for grades, it is mandatory because the slides that are uploaded online is not current, and sometimes there are slides in class that aren't online.

The only lecture class you'd actually wanna show up to consistently (which is good because he drops random attendance quizzes every now and then). Super funny and super intelligent. Easy a simple long as you keep up.

Professor Dewald is amazing! PSY100 was a lecture-heavy class and his lectures are entertaining and full of jokes. Attendance isn't mandatory but is a part of your grade. Hilarious/ Handsome. For his cog. psych. class you'll be graded on 4 exams, no extra credit SO YOU HAVE TO STUDY UR LECTURE NOTES/ slides on laulima & have knowledge on how to APPLY the concepts to real world situations. So if you "kinda" know the material its not enough. I currently have a C for not studying enough, but he's my favorite professor

If you're a true psych major, you probably won't rely on this to decide whether or not to take Professor Dewald's class. He is a very funny, and very thorough in his lectures. Though attendance is not mandatory, it would be in your best interest to go- he explains everything to its completeness in class. Ta's were awesome, tests are hard- study!!

Walking into this class I was not stoked at all. I had already fulfilled my math requirements upon finding out UH has this prereq for Psych. Dewald and his TA"S made it pretty doable. In my opinion, if you attend everyday and pay attention - you won't have to study or do much outside of class. If you miss, you'll most likely get lost.

Had him for PSY 100 & 212. Since this is a statistics class, coming to every class is crucial. Homework is given out almost every week. Go to every study session. The textbook isn't used but there's practice problems to help study for exams (multiple choice & short answers).

Andrew Dewald is extremely funny and engaging in his lectures! Even though the class itself isn't mandatory attendance, there are four attendance quizzes that are done online. But, you really should just go to class anyways because you won't have to study for the exams as hard as you would if you didn't go to class. Lowkey have a crush on him

I had professor Dewald for Psych 212 before this semester, and he is a great lecturer and is hilarious.. he responds quickly to emails, and is very approachable. It's important to take the time for yourself to read over the textbook, and to understand everything conceptually.. TAs are awesome. Make sure to study!!

Dewald made 8:30 am more enjoyable with his funny memes and unique character. He says you need the textbook to pass, which I had but barely read and still got a B in the class. He gives out weekly homework which is easy to fail, but they don't affect your grade too much.

I had Dr. Dewald for PSY 212 & 225. He is an amazing professor and I highly recommend him. In PSY 225 just make sure you read the textbook thoroughly and complete your homework. There are some practice problems in the textbook but you don't have to do them, the homework is good enough practice for the exams.
