Good teacher. His tests are fair. Labs can be tricky because he doesn't really go over whats on them before.
he is a good and friendly instructor. the tests are fair. the students needs to read the texts to get good grades. labs are difficult sometimes he does not clearly teach about lab,so students have to read the lab manual and text. he tries to draw good funny diagrams. and don't be shy to ask him questions.
He's one of the best professor in langara .if you read the textbook and attend his class, you will know what's on the quizs and exam.
He's a really friendly prof and he's super helpful but I felt like the midterm was too focused on the history of Canada rather than the REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY of Canada which was what I took. When he gives u worksheets he tells you to be brief and when you are he says you're being too BRIEF. He's cool, but I don't recommend him.
Andrew is the best Geo lab instructor out there. If you need the required science credits for your program take his class. His slides make sense if you read the textbook and listen to his class lecture.
Drew is great! he s kinda funny too. he uploads the ppt after he finishes that chap, so students still take note in class n reveiw for test with notes n ppt. he gives examples too. attend class n u will get it.
I took his summer 2010 class. And he was not very organized he asked us to change some numbers on the lab final 3 times. Also did not give you all the formulas for the math, but then again he never told us to remember them either.
Andrew Egan is a nice guy. He's pretty helpful if you seek him out or email him. Notes are powerpoints that can be printed after a lecture. I would recommend reading the text before or after class for key points. Tests are 1/3rd multiple choice, 1/3rd short answers, and 1/3rd drawing diagrams. Lots of vocabulary, and be sure to participate in class.
labs were hard so best to read chapters beforehand before coming to class. listen and try to do what advices and suggestions he gives.
Andrew is such a great prof. He's very approachable and connects with his students really well. He's very clear in what he teaches and so going to classes is mandatory as he likes to cover a lot of material in class. Exams/test/quizzes are self-explanatory, although he likes to provide mre information than needed. He's awesome! :)
Awesome Teacher. Never a boring class. Always willing and available to help or explain. He does sometimes short cut equations for lab, so use your lab manual. But great class. Super nice guy.
good teacher nice class but hard test
He's a very nice teacher. Exams are hard. Need to read the textbook thoroughly to get a good grade in the class.
I had the best semester with him !!! He is super nice and funny:)) miss his class already
This teacher teaches with a passion that is contagious. He explains the contents well and gives practical examples of the things he taught. If you should have trouble, he is more than willing to help you. He has a warm personality and seems to foster relations with students well. Tests are based on what he teaches in class. If you <3 Geo, take him!
He is a very organized prof. Explain every single concept in a clean way. very responsible. tests are not difficult, as long as you listen to his lecture. He will give you tips before the test
Drew was a great prof. He was helpful, friendly and approachable. He made the class fun and interesting. If I could take this class again I would do it in a heartbeat.
I was really dreading this course as I have no interest in Geography. However Drew is such an enthusiastic, interesting instructor that he made the course fun. I learned a lot of interesting things and enjoyed the lectures.
He blasts his class with narratives packed with information. Drew is very passionate and holds EVERYONE to a high standard. He gives tips for his tests/assignments, but serious students only -- no free hand-outs for skippers (he shares during class). Pay attention when he lists his requirements: he's teaching you how to do well IN ALL CLASSES!
He is a great teacher, passionate abut and knowledgeable. He is fair and clear about what. He sects from students. You really need to study. He is helpful, and very organize. I will take another class with him If I get the chance.
He is a great teacher, passionate abut and knowledgeable. He is fair and clear about what. He sects from students. You really need to study. He is helpful, and very organize. I will take another class with him If I get the chance.i just love his class!
One of the best. He is extremely passionate, kind and animated. His class isn't extremely easy, but as long as you read his notes/textbook, come to class, participate and ask questions you'll do fine. Drew loves it when students participate. He's also a really fair guy, and all he really wants is for the students who put the effort in, to do well.
Andrew is a funny guy and his lectures are full of personal experiences which makes them pretty interesting. His labs are sometimes hard to understand and there is little to no instruction from him beforehand.
This class is the equivalent of a fourth year class. His main assignment took more then 15 hours to do, his test are hard and his study guides are 180 questions long. Do not take him
Drew was an amazing teacher. He was always available to help students and beyond willing to go out of his way for them. Yes, you will have to be prepared to put some hours into your course; however, that welcomes you into the real world. If I could take a whole degree of things he taught I would in a heartbeat. Amazing teacher.
One of the best profs I've ever had at Langara. He is full of passion, and good humour. His class is definitely hard, but if you put in the effort, and show that you care, he'll match you and try to help you understand as best as he can.
Takes himself way too seriously to be teaching at langara. He expects students to perform at a 4th year or professional level, and seems to expect from the outset that no one will be able to measure up. Unclear instructions, tough marker, and no feedback on how to improve. Expected us to read more than 1000 "supplementary" pages to pass a "quiz"
Do google assignment with care and atteneion, review your notes for test and after class, do readings ahead of time, review his exam package to supplement your studying then a decent grade will come by
Excellent teacher he brings great enthusiasm to the class. Pay attention to the textbook and do his study guides and you will do well.
Passionate about geography and is hilaaarious in class. Will get you a good mark if you actually study and do the assignments which aren't all that difficult. Would take again.
Drew is by far my favorite prof at Langara, he is funny, kind, and more than willing to help you out if you ask. He gives ample time for assignments and gives you everything necessary to get an A. His lectures are long, but full of information. Make sure you attend class and read the textbook, he is more than willing to give out an A if you work.
Egan is a decent guy and fair marker. He rips your essay and people that failed exams apart but that is how you learn, by seeing your errors and fixing them. Also, applying yourself
He is like John Webb
Egan is probs my favorite prof. He makes sure his lectures are never boring, good thorough verbal feedback with the whole class after exams to make sure everyone can fix their mistakes. He made a boring subject i thought i would hate absolutely interesting, Im actually considering taking more geography courses now. Strongly suggest this class!
I have never detested a teacher more than Drew Egan. Unclear about everything from lectures to marking criteria, and when Id ask him for an explanation, or even a yes or no answer, he would go on for ages and never get to any discernible point. Seems arrogant and bitter, I would NEVER take another class with him for anything. Genuinely awful person
Seems to enjoy making a first year class very difficult. Far to much homework assigned. When concerns are addressed he dismisses them sarcastically. You will never have free time when in this class. Work load is more suited for 3rd or 4th year.
When I took him for 1150, he actually helped me on how to become an effective post-secondary student, & opened my eyes. He's actually willing to help you with study skills if you need it, his assignments aren't hard just put in the effort His lesson actually helping me in other courses as well. I will take his future courses as well in a heartbeat.
Good teacher, but i hate how he made you do these Google Earth Assignments, which took me nearly the whole day to do (maybe it's because they're boring!). They're longtedious and also, I've got other crap to do man. Other than that, everything else is pretty easy so long as you are always caught up with what's going on.
lots of pointless homework. takes 4 days to respond to emails, even questions about exams go unanswered until an hour before. lectures are pointless; hard to stay relevant when a million people have already explained the topics more eloquently and cohesively.
Great prof. Lectures are great and will contain everything you need to get a good grade (many extras that aren't in the text). Good amount of homework, not hard just time consuming. Funny and easy going, would take a course with him again in a heartbeat.
The best geography prof there is! Long lectures with pretty heavy material for students who are absolute science-credit virgins (especially the labs... MATH), but Drew makes it so easy to sit thru & his lecture notes are great. Such a chill and hilarious prof who knows what he's talking about and just wants you to love jet streams as much as him.
Funny professor, absolutely amazing lectures. Tests are tough but working hard will give you a pass.
Really, REALLY nice, chill, and caring Geography loving guy. His office door will always be open to you. Labs can be tedious and time consuming but engaging lectures; I loved his stories (highlight of the course: WU TAO TAO!! hehe)! There will be no surprises if you go to lectures and catch his heavy hints of what will be on the exam.
Mr. Egan is a good guy, but the subject was hard (at least for me). He doesn't share material, it's just you, your notes and the book. The exams are very tiring. I studied a lot and there were a lot of stuff that I couldn't answer. Maybe it was harder for me because I'm international student. He says that he is nice marker, but he's not. Be careful
Andrew is a very excited, engaging lecturer who is super helpful outside of class and promotes some in-class discussion. His workload is very high, those Google Earth assignments (while fun and interesting) are super time consuming. He doesn't give breaks, but does offer very clear grading criteria and gives a very comprehensive exam review.
His enthusiasm in lectures is unmatched by any other professor. The way he teaches you about volcanoes, karst topography, glacial surges etc. will make you want to major in Geomorphology. He's the funniest prof I've had so far, but the labs can be confusing when done alone, I'd recommend getting to know your class well to seek help when needed
TBH Drew makes you wanna hate him and also love him. His lectures are super hilarious while at the same time his prezis are basically all copied from the textbook so there is no need to take notes in class. Tests are not that hard as long as you study from the review sheet he gives you. Labs can be somewhat confusing, make sure u get the lab manual
Amazing and entertaining lecturer, but the workload is immense. Be prepared to laugh in his class, also be prepared to spend 5-6 hours every weekend doing those google earth assignments
I loved the lectures. Lots of stories to make you remember the content of the lecture.. clear about exam content. The multiple choice questions can be too confusing.
good teacher if you want to take a elective course for high mark, other teacher will you better choice
Good teacher ,butif you want to take a elective course for high mark, other teacher will your better choice
Took Intro to Geology with Drew and let me begin by saying the title "introduction" is misleading. The course covers A LOT. His presentations are good but his explanations are confusing and often just silly. Bad at responding to e-mails and generally doesn't stick to his word on things. Work load is HEAVY! Second lab exam is near impossible!
His lectures are entertaining and full of energy. It's very rare these days, especially in Langara to have these types of teachers. He posts Prezis from lectures online, but beware that the notes are confusing and unorganized. It makes studying for midterms and finals harder than it should be. He is a fair grader. There's not much to complain.
Expects 3rd or 4th year level work from students in a intro-level course. Confusing lecturer.
Andrew is hilarious, he makes lectures pretty entertaining. He can get frustrated but wants everyone to do well. Weather report is not too hard, make sure you collect all data. His midterms and final are the same structure; multiple choice, short answer, fill in or draw a diagram. He provides review questions that cover everything you need to know.
I had the pleasure of being in his classes for a couple classes, both geography. He is very dedicated in his field and his lectures show that. He has heavy content in his lectures so be prepared to study and review notes. Lectures are kept interesting with his deadpan humour. He's a cool guy overall, would recommend.
At first I didn't like Drew (Andrew) Egan but he became one of my favourite instructors. Andrew gives fantastic, funny lectures full with real world examples of all aspects of Human Geography. His Prezi presentations are excellent, organized and accessible online. He gives precise grading criteria and equally precise feedback for all assignments
A good instructor and is clear about expectations. We went on a field trip which was great and interesting. Nothing is too hard if you are willing to work toward learning. He does his best to make it interesting with loads of examples, some are funny too.
Drew is a nice guy, his lectures made me actually enjoy my elective. Read the textbook and you'll be fine. Exams are really straight-forward. Be ready for a boring field trip:D
If you are not only looking for passing, but making effort and actually learn a lot to become a great professional, this is the one you should go for. He is not there only to teach you about the content, but to teach you how to think it over. But if you are the kind of student that wants to do only enough to pass, better look for someone else.
Andrew has a no-nonsense attittude and a good dry sense of humor, he's clear and to the point with the material. The grading rubric for assignments are laid out online so you know exactly what he's looking for-also gives specific feedback to help keep your work up to standard. Exams are tough, this class won't be an easy A, but it's interesting!
This was one of the fist courses I took in college, but his lecture was too difficult for me, as an international student. He was a nice person, but he spoke so fast and took no break in the lecture. He had only one midterm, which was nice, but it was hard to know what we should study for exam, since his lecture presentation was unclear.
He is such a caring professor in Langara college. He understand their students very well.
Good teacher. But content is abundant and can be difficult.
Lectures do not cover much, most of the work is done by the student through online research and readings. Expectations are unclear. Exams are hard and criteria for exams are not given. The rest of the class is easy if you attend.
Had him for geology intro and geography of BC. He teaches and explains things really well. Sometimes he goes too quickly through stuff and some of his powerpoints don't have anything written on them, so make sure to take notes in class. A few assignments but mostly marked on tests.
A very tough grader. He grades essays very harshly but won't give out much of feedback. Exams are 20 mc + 6 short answer questions. He takes lots of points out from short answer questions. Make sure to provide multiple examples using geographical terms from textbook. Grammar and spelling matter too. He's very funny though if that matters.
Hes very good, but what is most remarkable is how many friends he supposedly has. By this point, he must have spoken about several dozen in order to illustrate concepts, and all of these people seem to live a variety of equally astonishing lives. Who has that many cool friends?!?!! I have a total of like 2 & all they do is work & cry due to stress
Lectures consisted of Prezi's, quizzes were right out of the book- he even spent half a class trying to work a PowerPoint while we all looked on. Excessive VIDEOS While material was fascinating, teaching was poor. Could have self-taught myself with only the textbook and had a much better experience. Choose someone else who is more inspiring...
I took this class as an elective .. NOT A GOOD CHOICE! he expects 3rd or 4th year experience level from a 1st year class... he is a hard marker and has hard exams. It may be a 1st year course but it might as well be a 3rd. He likes to get involved though and is an amazing prof as a person but, expectations are off the charts. NOT A GPA BOOSTER!
never again. he made a first year course as hard as a third year. BORING AND DRY lectures. HARD exams. doesnt care about students at all! idk why he is even teaching
Andrew is so entertaining, I laugh every class. His lecture slides are full of way too much text that is not on the tests, but he said he was going to change that soon. If you ask for help, he will try his best to figure out the problem, but for some he might be intimidating. GIS is a hard subject, but complete labs and you'll pass.
Drew is incredibly entertaining. His lectures make you interested in otherwise mundane topics and he gives solid test question hints. If you complete the arduous exam study questions, you will do very well. Beware: Drew is a tough grader on assignments and written response test questions. Ace the beginning easier assignments to avoid stress later.
Very passionate guy who is willing to discuss in long points about his material. Often would go overtime due to his passionate lectures and explanations; however, he would always apologize. Gave great insight into each topic with nods to his personal experiences in topics as well. An absolute gem of a teacher!
He's passionate about the subject, however lectures have no break and go past the allotted time so it gets boring. There are a LOT of videos to watch. He appeared to get very low on patience at the end of the semester- in one of his emails he signed off with "your tired and exasperated instructor" among other things. Lacking empathy as a professor.
A very nice and interesting teacher at first. His zooms were 2hrs and very boring, a bit pointless as he usually just went over slides that we had to review again because he sped through them. The final project was done on google earth and many students in the class were unclear about the project. He was very nice majority of the time.
Over all great prof. Tons of information in this course and the google earth assignments and major project was A LOT of fun and I learned so much. Sometimes his instructions can be a little unclear, but if you don't know... ask. He always replies to emails and gives great feedback. He legit cares about your success. You will enjoy Drew's class. :)
Ive had drew for two semesters. His midterm and final questions are rather difficult and require extensive studying or you wont do well. He talks really fast and his lectures are boring. However, he cares for his students despite coming across across un-empathetic. Get ready to read the chapters or else you wont pass the exam.
Andrew's lectures are so boring and he speaks so quickly that you cannot possibly take good notes. He also only had one assignment graded in time for the last day to withdrawal so it is hard to assess how you are doing in his class. This class was nearly impossible for me to pass and Andrew gave no feedback on tests and exams.
Drew is an AMAZING prof, so caring and genuinely wants you to succeed. Gives you all the tools you need and is fully available to help any time. You will never feel in the dark or confused about what is expected of you. He is passionate about what he teaches!
He's nice overall but boring lectures, couldn't control your sleep when listening to him. Post power points without much information. Most of the tests are from books, be ready to read a book. And a little tough grader.
Non understanding professor.
This professor was horrible! His labs were given out with no explanations on how to do them. His exams, very difficult and his notes, scattered. Would not take another course with him!
Content wise, the class made my top 3 fave classes ever. Drew's lectures are great. Material was so interesting. But he marks VERY tough and gives out way too many assignments that all pile up near the end. His pre-midterm quizzes were the death of me. I had to study A LOT for the great I wanted on the final. Very stressful class, & A LOT of work.
Drew is a great professor! 2210 was challenging with a LOT of work, but Drew made it fun and easier to understand. He is a great guy! Also, Tony (lab instructor) was extremely helpful :)
Funniest teacher, countless interesting stories to make lectures relevant. Andrew makes things simple with digital methods of tests/assignments. The assignments themselves are very hard to fail with multiple videos/tools given to help complete them. Andrew is incredibly passionate about his work and you can feel it in every lecture he gives.
You can sense that he is really passionate about teaching. From his amazing slides to his anecdotes, it made the class very engaging. He has positive energy all the time. He also kinda looks like Chris Pine! Haha!
Very engaging course, great lecturer, All classwork is online, and the workload is not overwhelming but still a lot of assignments. Was fortunate enough to go on a field trip with this course and I had a lot of fun. He requires a textbook, but I never bought it or had the need to use it. Just study the slides. Good prof.
His online course is awful. Lots of discrepancies between the official calendar and dates mentioned in videos. Lectures are long, boring, and heavy full of information that goes way too in-depth and frankly useless at this level. Does not stick to the core concepts. The only positive is he is really knowledgeable and passionate about the course
Avoid like the plague. Messy and tedious. Too many assignments and readings. Due dates and grading don't match. His MT is worth little but expects you to answer 110+ prompts in study guide. I have perfect GPA and concepts in this class are simple but the class overall is made tough by the instructor. Math and Econ class easier than this
A lot of homework. A lot of reading. A lot of extra videos. Tough grader. Lectures are boring. Doesn't reply to emails. Messy Brightspace folders. Due dates mismatched. Really nothing positive about this prof. I say this as a 4.0 student. I will avoid him for the rest of my time in Langara. Absolutely the worst prof I've ever had in my life.
Despite the small amount of students in the class, Drew still made the class engaging. He is very transparent in his grading and easy to approach. It never took long to receive an email back from him. Overall a kind and relatable man, shares several of his previous experiences.
Funny but bad. Assignment due dates and weighting are often incorrect on the syllabus, lectures are long, irrelevant, and boring, brightspace is disorganized with many missing or outdated files. Workload is inconsistent and badly laid out, triples near end of semester. Tutorials on QGIS are very well done, but not worth the rest of the course.
Unorganized criteria and course structure. The feedback I received was done with voice-to-text, and the sentences were incoherent, with no good feedback points. The final exam was filled with spelling and grammar mistakes too. He is a better instructor in person but the course felt neglected in an online format.
I had Andrew for Intro to GIS in the spring. He himself is a great professor, he cares about his students and wants them to succeed but his material and lecture slides are hard and require many hours outside of class to actually understand and learn the material. I would take him again, just not for GIS.
It's extremely difficult to understand lecture topics as he tends to go off topic most of the time.
