The book was our teacher for the course. His explanations made the material more complicated than it had to be.
Materials taught in class is exactly from the book. if you study the book you will be fine, dont really need to go to class. teacher is really boring! tests are fair though.
The most hilarious thing about him is hearing him say "calorimetry." Cal-oh-ri-metree LOL.
I took his class for summer sessions. Pretty straightforward lectures and straightforward tests to boot. No lecture notes online, so don't miss lecture. Do homework and you'll be ready for the tests. Good professor.
Take notes carefully. Study the lectures notes carefully too. (Most of the multiple choice questions come straight out of the notes)
if u know how to read a book, u dont have to go to class. his lecture is very boring. his monotone makes students wanna fall asleep!!! too bad he is the only one who teaches 107a and he has beening teaching for 5 years! get the old midterms then u will do fine.
He is a horrible professor. Assigns a lot of homework, and his notes are super long and boring. He gives 22 T/F, 5MC, and 2 Tables or Graphs, and 5 short answer questions in a 50min test. He is insane!
Explanation of lecture material is OK. Should go through lecture material a lot slower.
I HATE this prof. He is such a jerk in office hours and makes you feel really stupid. His lectures are boring and has pop quizzes. Midterms are way too long to think things through and has a lot of mutiple choice (which is a bad thing). I would definitely not recommend him.
BAD PROF AND HARD TESTS! LECTURE NOTES STRAIGHT FROM TEXTBOOK..
his lectures are a bit fast paced at times and his voice is pretty boring, an **** in office house, his tests are pretty hard, esp. the multiple choice portions..pretty hard teacher overall but its not like you have an option anyways..
Tests are really long, work-out problems aren't that hard, but the rest of the test is. Notes straight from powerpoint. Terrible at explaining things. Pop quizzes were unnecessary but he felt he had to give them.
The class is difficult. Unfortunately, Fisher seems to be the only professor willing to teach it. Most students who do well in the class do so by getting a hold of old midterms.
He is a terrible teacher; very bad at explaining things, most of lecture is full of topics irrelevant to the actual material. No practice tests, so everyone's clueless as to what will be covered. Avoid him!!
His lectures are scattered, uses examples from the book and STILL gets them wrong. No practice midterms, no helpful review session. His lectures are horrible and irrelevant to many topics, which makes learning chemistry more confusing. Makes many mistakes which makes his lectures hard to follow. Uses horrible slides and seems to not know topics
This teacher is confusing, boring, and completely unhelpful. When asked how to do a problem in a review session he responded with "you should know that because its chemistry".
Horrible teacher! I loved chem, and he has made me hate this class. He is not helpful with the midterms, no study guide / practice midterm. Tests are random, with obscure questions.
Horrible professor! no practice midterm, NOT helpful, horrible notes. defeats the whole purpose of having a professor when you learn more from the book than you do from him. I liked chem before, but he makes me despise this subject. Farmer is a million times better!
Dr. Fischer has trouble communicating with other humans. I had enderle for fall and winter quarter so I was used to having a great teacher which made fischer's class even worse. blahh
Dr. Fisher is an ok guy. He makes a lot of mistakes during his lectures (like saying one thing and writing another). I would've liked him more if he gave practice tests.
horrible prof. Doesn't give any practice exams, always messes up during lecture. Basically have to memorize and learn from book, no cohesion to his lesson plans. He talks to the board, mutters to himself and spends 1/2 of class on a tangent.
He's a horrible professor...he has a monotone voice and always forgets to write things down on the board in lecture. His powerpoints are sometimes interesting, but overall, he's not a big help..he rambles a lot and talks about irrelevant things. I went to his office hours for help but he didn't seem like he wanted to do much. not recommended..
THE WORST TEACHER EVER!! take nasiri... i did her practice test and understood it... fisher is all over the place lecture notes are horrible... mostly read the book on my own... he seriously messed up my GPA
ewwww....I didnt like him everything came straight from notes so what u have to do is go to class n really pay attention to him reading the book is not necessary n doin hw should be good because there were no practice midterms. I pulled a B b/c i was always at office hours and just keep on asking him questions n he will let u kno what to worry abou
Fisher is a strange DOODE!, His voice is monotone so you wouldn't be interested in chemistry! He talks about random things occasionally, but anywho, Summer Session (the one im taking) goes by really quick and there are practice midterms, notes go from lecture and lots of homework BUT HE"S OKAY
First off, he MUMBLES into the microphone and what he writes on the board does not collerate with what he is saying. Then, he erases the notes that he has written almost immediately. It is hard trying to copy down his notes hurriedly and listening to his mumblings at the same time. Exams are from notes only but the curve is terrible.Diet Coke Junki
Professor Fisher isn't the greatest thing to happen to the chemistry department, but also not the worst. He trails off when he talks and can be hard to understand. His practice midterms are not helpful, so study the homework and especially the notes. His worst fault is that he's not approachable. If you get stuck with Fisher, STUDY!
HE STAYED ON TOPIC. NICE GRADER. DRINKS A LOT IN CLASS (COFFEE I THINK). FOCUSED ON BIOCHEMISTRY ASPECTS OF CHEMISTRY. I GOT AN A! I DIDN'T EVEN REALLY STUDY!
Mediocre, not great, but not as bad as everyone says. Took the class over the summer, but the curve was crazy high for some reason. Oh, and he <3 diet coke.
He gets himself confused during lectures, which confuses the students a whole lot more. A good effort, but he's just rather awkward with public speaking and speaks with a monotone. You'll be studying on your own a lot.
Didn't give practice midterms when I took him which made it hard because he wasn't a great lecturer. You'll have to learn on your own a lot. Just spend a lot of time with your book =/
Horrible lecturer: mumbles, and lectures straight out of the book. Exams are easy, and the curve is huge. Not very eager to help students in office hours, I always got the vibe that he had much better things to be doing than explaining something again. Lots of mistakes in lectures, and he's just not very good, but it's not like we have a choice.
Reads straight from the book and talks into the board. The examples in class are pretty helpful for understanding the material but his lectures aren't. The curve is pretty huge though, so an A in PChem is really not that hard. You have to read your book a lot.
A nice guy, not a great lecturer though. Read the book and write down the sample problems he gave in class. The material is ok, he gives fair tests - just try to understand the book.
Great Prof!
Professor Fisher is a great professor comparing to the 107B teacher you are going to have. His exams are very difficult while you are taking it, but when you look back at them at the end of the quarter, you will think yo uare an idiot for not acing the exams. Exams are not out of the blues, they were fair.
teaching's great
The people who wrote bad ratings for Dr. Fisher are probably the ones who do not study for the class. P - chem is not that hard especially when the professor gives example problems in his lectures. Dr. Fisher is a wonderful lecturer compared to other p chem professors, a well renowned researcher, and dedicated to helping his students.
I just think he grades harder than other chem2c professors.
so i had him for the last quarter of honors general chem. Ah. Failed the first midterm, the learnd the value of "assigned but not graded homework". All in all, do you work. Lab in that class is hard...especially since your TA is going to be evil. And study. His office hours ain't helpful...Consult David Oxtoby's Princ. Modern Chem for this class.
Fisher can be a lttle mean, especially durring office hours. Don't miss lectures, take good notes, read the book, and do the assigned homework. He's definently out to fail people so be ready.
Fisher is great - clear, good lectures, engaging. Obviously, he's hard - this is the sciences at Davis. If you can't stand the heat, major in English.
The material is difficult but Dr. Fisher made it understandable. Don't take P. Chem unless you are prepared to study!!! You will learn a lot from Dr. Fisher.
Material can be difficult, so do ALL the "suggested" HW problems. Fisher can be confusing, but go to every lecture. He sometimes covers material not in the book. Practice exams way easier than actual exam,so be prepared. Never went to OH, but he sent out congratulatory emails to students who improved their exams scores, which I thought that was nice.
Tests are far more difficult and different than the practice exams. So you aren't prepared. Lectures cover the basics, so you're left to figure out all the complicated aspects by yourself. I would have just liked to have tests resemble what was in the book, and in lecture, is that too much?
I don't know why people have a hard time with Dr. Fisher. He's a great lecturer, throwing in jokes and laughing at himself to make the class more bearable. He's a little intimidating but is actually quite cordial. I learned a lot from Dr. Fisher and understood concepts in Chem that I failed to fully grasp in Gen Chem. All in all, good class
He's one of my favorite Professors. What I liked about him was that he does not present too much detail, leaving it to you to decide what's important. I studied from the textbook a lot. He's helpful in office hours. His tests are fair; ended up with an A. After taking his 107A class, I changed my major to biochem. I would recommend his class.
Many of my friends really don't like him, but I personally think he's pretty good. His tests come out of the notes and if you look back, you'll see that every questions was in lecture. He mumbles a lot and it's sometimes hard to pay attention, but overall I liked him.
Mumbles a lot, incomprehensible at best. Doesn't care too much about his students, doesn't try overly hard to help them learn. Go to class if you have him as most of his test is based off of his lectures. Straightforward Midterms and Finals, nothing tricky whatsoever. Overall bad professor. Didn't learn anything this quarter.
Out of all the chem series, I received the highest grade in this one. Professor Fisher is extremely FAIR. Every question on his test was talked about at some point in the class and could be found in the notes. To do well, understand problems on the board because those will show up again. He is very encouraging when he knows your are trying.
His tests are straightforward and not difficult at all. Everything on the test, he has covered some point in lecture. So attend and listen to his lectures, take good notes, and review notes extensively. He mumbles in lecture and is monotone. He answers questions clearly, but sometimes goes off and explains beyond the scope of class.
Not great nor bad. He's friendly and his tests are very fair. Nothing on them will shock you. However, since he tends to mumble and speak quickly, you may miss an important note, so be careful! It will be tempting to fall asleep but you may miss that one sentence that you need for the test. Consider yourself warned!
Professor Fisher is an alright professor. It's so easy to fall asleep during lecture, but his tests come straight from lecture. Tests are not that hard but he tries to trick you. Assigns masteringchem. If you wanna do well, you have to go to lecture and review your notes.
His lectures were pretty boring and it was hard not to fall asleep. Midterms were really easy and straightforward. However, the final had a lot of random trivia that he mentioned maybe once during the whole quarter. Class averages were really high and there was pretty much no curve. He used masteringchem, which, although tedious, was really helpful
I thought this class was the easiest out of the CHE2 series. Everything in the test were from the lecture. Kinda dull sometimes, but everything was straightforward and easy. Just take good notes and study of of those.
Not very helpful he acts like you should know it all already. Not enough office hours, majority of class was lost. Expects everyone to be at his level but obviously as undergrads were not. If you're very strong in chemistry and hardly need help take him but if you're not that strong try to get a better professor. I barely got a B thanks to the curve. He' s not very friendly either, barely looks at you when you speak to him. Sometimes comes off very arrogant.
Lectures are very informative. Easy to take notes off of. He will take the time to explain things out. However, his exams are EXTREMELY difficult. He will give practice exams a week before the midterm and she were 100x easier than the actual midterm, so they are somewhat misleading. Unfortunately hes the only one who teaches the class s GOOD LUCK
THIS PROFESSOR DOESN'T CURVE THIS CLASS AT ALL. Just a reminder for everyone who is gonna take his class in the future. His lectures are really boring because of his monotone. The fact that he doesn't curve the class makes it really hard to do well. I got As for both 2A and 2B, got a B in this one. Do not recommend this professor!!!
I do not know where some of these people are coming from because Andrew Fisher was a great professor. His tests are easy and he explains things very clearly and effectively. People who did not get an A in this class relied on a curve and that is not the way to go about being a successful student. I got an A in Chem 2ABC by practicing, not a curve.
He's adorable when he stutters.
These people complaining about how hard the class is are pretty dumb. Took his class summer Chem 2C and was really easy A. Somewhat boring lecture but he pretty much set you up to succeed in the class by telling what you should know. He barely curves because his test are really easy. Gave a practice midterm and final. Uses chem book alot. Chem 2C
Lectures and answer questions clearly. His tests are kind of hard, but so is the material. Attend class always because he will cover material not in the book.
An average professor. This is my second class with him (CHE2C last time). I liked him a lot better in 107A because there weren't so many random facts that I had to remember. He explained clearly and the tests were straightforward, based right off of lecture. But he posts no slides or podcasts. You'll probably get the grade you expect to get.
Essentially, Professor Fisher is essentially and alright professor. but he will essentially pull crap out of nowhere on the exams! Every little random fact he tells you even if they don't sound important---essentially will be on the exams! be prepared. easy material, but very easy to get a B hard to get an A. BTW he says "ESSENTIALLY" ALOT!!!
Don't read text. You MUST go to lecture and write down EVERYTHING he says. Every little fact. Then memorize. Final wasn't really fair, he had some new stuff on it out of nowhere, but midterms were facts from lectures and definitely doable. It's not too bad. He mumbles so sit in the front.
I suppose he's an average to hard professor, depending on your interest and understanding of chemistry. My biggest issue with this class was that the test problems were waaaaaaay more difficult than the practice problems or weren't related to the homework problems at all. You'll probably do well if you like chemistry. If not...oh well.
Fisher is a solid professor. A comment below says he doesn't podcast or post slides but he does now (both) so that's not an issue. The tests are pretty hard but if you understand the concepts you'll be fine. No HW just 2 midterms and a final.
I struggled with this class, I did they hw and the reading BUT THE EXAMS WERE NOT LIKE THE PRACTICE ONES!!! I asked him a question once after class and his attitude was horrible and caused me to stay away from office hours. He made me feel dumb for asking a legit question
He writes notes on the board and is extremely clear. Perfect lecturing pace. Makes a lot more sense than Physics 7. Class is not too difficult if you have a good understanding of gas laws, solutions, and electrochemistry. Did not do book problems. Did the practice exams. Got an A.
Attendance was Not mandatory, but I didn`t miss any
Gave 4 online quizzes w our lowest score dropped. Lectures are very clear, always does problems in class. Posts podcasts. Tests are very doable, gives partial credit, just don't over-think it. Multiple choice questions on concepts are on test. My mistake was focusing on things he DIDN'T focus on in class; if he goes over it, it's on there.
He was very clear in lectures about the material. He also gives a lot of hints in class about what might be on the midterm. If he goes over it, it will likely be on midterm or final. P chem is a tough course so you have to be willing to put in the work. Read the book to clarify topics, and do practice exams and HW
He lectures at a good pace, pretty nice guy. The midterms and final are hard but it is not too bad as long as you study the material really well. 4 easy online quizzes, lowest one is dropped. He curves the class. As long as you are 1 standard deviation about the average you for sure have an A!
Monotone and not very effective. Just a bunch of equation but doesn't explain why and how of the processes, leave much of the material ambiguous. Gets frustrated if you ask too many questions. Exams are not very fair because he puts trivia or random fact questions that you just need to randomly catch and memorize from podcasts.
Loved his sense of humor. Tests were fair. Podcasts everything and honestly this class was really easy. He like covered 1 formula per lecture. First part of the class (thermo) was harder than the second part
Great professor, i was expecting pchem to be much tougher. He does explain what formulas mean, that is most of lecture! So thank you for words instead of integrals! Fair exams and quizzes. Book is useful, too. Oh, and candy DURING the final?? How rad was that? Would take him for part two
Fisher wasn't the most enthusiastic but I think he's one of the better professors for pchem. Expect integration/derivation on midterms bc he goes over this extensively in class. When looking back, both midterms and final were extremely fair even though I didn't do well on the first. Find ppl to study with, will be your saving grace. PODCAST!! GL!
Fisher was a robot when he was writing on the board. He talks very quickly and just keeps writing and erasing the board. You realize he is very clear in lectures, AFTER hearing his podcast because he is just way to fast in lecture. DO NOT GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. The TA was awesome tho, the one with the orange beard.
Fisher covers everything you need to know for the MTs and final in his lectures, but it's difficult to know what you're supposed to know bc he doesn't really "emphasize" the important things when he talks. He just spurts out a ton of information that's easy to miss. If you watch him back though you can pick up on these things which helped me a lot
The tests aren't too bad but lectures can be boring and somewhat confusing. There isn't always a clear progression of concepts but overall not too bad.
Not the worst professor but lectures were boring and he wasnt always available to help
He mainly talks to the board during class and its hard to follow because of the amount of info he is trying to convey at one time. Wish there were more examples. Really comes down to you trying to understand it yourself outside of class.
Im not sure why so many negative reviews. I took this class during the pandemic so maybe different for me. Pay attention to every little thing he emphasizes, it will show up on test and quizzes. Tests are fair if you listen to every lecture and practice a lot. I struggled a lot but went to office hours and was able to get a passing grade
Honestly, he isn't that bad of a professor. Took him during the pandemic and he was organized with the material, though reading the book can be helpful to substantiate the material. This is a dense class, so keep track of the equations and the concepts. Practice exams have similar format to test, but tests can be tricky and long.
This course is hard, but Prof. Fisher has his notes organized and clear. He definitely deserves a higher rate. Highly recommend to make a study guide for organizing the equations. His exams were hard, but they were fair, no tricky questions.
Hes REALLY good at explaining concepts but he talks at 1000 mph. His exams are straightforward (mostly just plug and chug Qs) and he retests some concepts. Do the homework and review his lecture problems; they help a lot! I was so scared to take this class but he made me genuinely enjoy p chem. He also cares about his students well-being.
A really tough class but Prof Fisher does explain lots of concepts well in lectures. The midterms and final are a bit hard but as long as you do the practice questions, they are not challenging at all.
This course has taught me the least info out of all classes I have taken. The professor fails at highlighting the key information that we should be taking away from his PowerPoints of over 100 slides. The textbook is terrible in that it only derived equations but vaguely covers concepts. In short, your only source of info is the ocean of slides. GL
Taking this class with Dr. Fisher wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. He was really disorganized throughout the entire quarter, to the point that we have a quiz during finals week. He moves through content really quickly, often not giving enough time to ask questions in class. Not an impossible class, but I'd recommend someone else.
Dr. Fisher is one of those professors who I don't understand why they teach. He seems to almost despise his students and enjoy watching them fail. If he's teaching CHE107, best to wait and take it a different quarter. Condescending and incredibly intimidating.
Not sure what the prior review is talking about. I sat in front everyday and sure, he's sorta indifferent to everyone. But his job as a prof is to teach...not be nice. And it's not like he was rude either. We come to learn, and he delivered. What more can someone want? He's not an impossible prof like Hayashi. Go with Fisher
Professor Fisher was a good teacher, and very knowledgable about the material. He may seem stern and serious, but is very approachable with questions. Tests were tough, but fair given the difficulty of the material in general. Curve is also really generous. He clearly cares about his students succeeding.
