Very good - helpful, flexible in grading - but difficult tests. Don't believe stories about this class being easy. I got A's all through calculus but got a B (barely) in the class. Good educator and lecturer.

Inthe more advanced classes he may shine, but for 243, he is BORING. He has good chalkboard technique, very clear. Not concise. He likes to ramble, and it can get dry, though outside of class he is very personable.

Andrew Flight is a very good math teacher. He is understanding and flexable. The tests are short and you can bring notes. He is very clear about what you need to know to do well on the tests. I have enjoyed the class very much.

His tests are fairly easy and he is flexible with notes. He seems to really want to help you learn and - to some people he may seem boring and impersonal - but I like. He enjoys what he does and helps us to enjoy it. He's the best math teacher I've ever had.

He's a goofy looking hippy and is hilarious. His class is simple if you show up and take the notes. His homework assignments are the same as the quizes for Stats 243 Business..haha

I've never taken stats before, so I don't know how difficult it actually is, but he makes everything extremely easy. He's very laid-back, and helpful, and seems utterly fascinated by what he does. He gets the class involved by doing surveys that he uses during his lectures. Weeklyhomework, all very easy.

Andy makes Stats fun. You can tell he really enjoys teaching. 5 HW problems, 2 quizes, 2 mid-terms and a Final throughout the term. And he lets you use a page of notes for the mid-terms and Final. One of the two best Stats professors at PSU (Rachel Webb is the other). As long as you go to class and take good notes you will do well.

Even if he wasn't the greatest teacher of all time in the history of modern academics, I would give him 5's just for hair. Rock on Andy

I took his stats 244 class in the summer so it was more fast pace but this class was great. He explains everything really well and is really helpful. You can use a page of notes on the test and midterm. Tests were not hard at all as long as you know your stuff. Go to class and take notes, do your homework, and you'll do fine.

Flight explains statistics in an easy-to-understand manner. The quizzes and exams can be challenging. He doesn?t give typical questions. Instead, he asks questions that are meant to assess whether you?ve grasped the material. If you like statistics, you?ll enjoy his tests. Other students might find the tests more difficult than they?d prefer.

I had to take stats as a psych major but math's not my subject. To my surprise, Andy made stats almost fun. Just had 4 homeworks, 2 quizzes, mid and final. No busy work and repetition! I didn't expect to get an A in math, but he's a great teacher. Actually go to class because his lectures are super helpful and don't just repeat the text.

Andy is great (as you can see). The tests are challenging, but he also wants to give you credit on problems, so even if you get part of an answer wrong but had the right concept along the way he'll give you points. Take good notes come to class and try, you'll do well.

Never had I thought I'd pass a STATS class with an A. Andy is AMAZING. He cares that you understand the material. He explains very well and offers a lot of examples. a couple quizzes, a couple midterms, and a cumulative final. and 4 hw assignments. For a challenging class made understanable, he is THE teacher to take.

Math comes difficult to me. However, after seeing Andy's ratings, I was hopeful. I ended up with an A! He makes hard concepts VERY easy, and is basically the best teacher at PSU. Actually, the best teacher I have EVER had. He makes STATS FUN. SERIOUSLY. Don't miss him - he is freaking AWESOME.

Andy is not only a great professor, he's a great guy. He seems to be genuinely interested in student's success, and is very approachable. He does the hardest problems in the book for fun before class. He always comes to class with a smile on his face; you can't help but share his enthusiasm for the subject. He is the best math prof. I've ever had.

I hadn't taken any math classes in three years, so I was a bit apprehensive about having to take Stats244. But the way Andy teaches is just brilliant. He does his best to make sure everyone understands everything, and even gives you shortcuts, after, of course, teaching how a concept is supposed to be done. VERY good professor. Take him if you can!

I almost could have had a C in his class (2%away) & he didnt give it to me :/ i really struggled with the class & tried my best, but math is nOt my thing. woulda been nice if he could have cut me some slack, especially since it was an online class (accidently signed up 4 onl)...other wise, cool, smart guy. He is very fun and energetic and seems to actually care about what he is teaching. In class he is very clear with lecture and gives example problems that students can relate to. His tests are a bit challenging.. but being allowed a sheet of notes helps out a lot. Very nice guy 100% recommended!

Andy is great, he's passionate about the subject and gives great examples. He explains things really well. Though attendance isn't mandatory, it's totally worth it to attend. There are 6 weekly quizzes (lowest score dropped), 2 midterms, and a final. You are allowed to use a page of notes for each of the quizzes & midterms and 2 pages for the final

This was a fully online course for me. I really liked this format. You know exactly when homework and quizzes are due. Studying is done on your own but everything he gives homework, quizzes and exams on comes straight from the book. He also responds to questions quickly and is helpful. Definitely recommend.

There are few things I hate more than math but stats is required for me. I still struggle with the subject but even in a class over over 200 he manages to make the subject more clear. And finally(!!) a teacher who knows notes are OK on quizzes!

Andy is great. He really takes time to explain things clearly and make it as easy as possible to understand. Huge class but he makes it work and is available, along with TA's if you need extra help. Don't miss class, especially after the 2nd week or so or it's easy to fall behind and feel overwhelmed. He's very fair.

Andy is amazing! I am one of those people who has spent the majority of my young adult life believing that it was impossible for me to pass a math class, and yet here I am! He makes lectures fun, and is really mindful of writing everything down, making taking notes really easy. For once a math class I don't dread going to every day!

In a class of over 150 he can still make you feel like you he is talking directly to you. I will take more classes from him.

My man Prof. Flight is sui generis! 1st off, (and I'm a totally straight & happily married man with a beautiful wife and baby), but with his Zen-like Nor'easterner vibe of Waldenesque concern for others and gentlemanly hippy intellectual charms, Flight is, more plainly speaking, just too damn cool for school. Even at a multicultural mess like PSU!

Had him for 243 and 244. Never read the textbook, never did the hw, but got A's both classes. But I did go to every class, I wrote down exactly what he wrote and I took extremely good notes for the tests. If you don't take Andy for Stats, you are crazy!

Fantastic professor. He will make you work if you want to get an A, but Flight gives you all the tools you need. He knows how to present the information in an understandable way and keeps lecture interesting. To top it off, he is a friendly, humorous guy.

Andy is the most laid-back easy going Professor-and so accessible! I took the online Stats classes from him, and got good enough grades in both classes so that I never have to take them again. I would recommend him to anyone who has to take these classes. Don't be afraid to ask for help or to challenge an answer on exam-he's cool about that too.

I mistakenly took this class online at PSU. I was terrified but Professor Flight was very responsive to all of my questions. He answered questions quickly and was fair in his grading. The website instruction was informative. He truly wants his students to succeed. Recommended.

He's a great teacher. He has minor tangents which can be a smidge distracting, but he allows notes on quizes and tests and so there is no pressure to memorize the formulas because there is just too much to remember. He's really nice and he makes the material so simple to understand. I really suggest taking him. He's really fantastic!

Andy's been teaching since '04 for a reason.. He's a great instructor! I had to withdraw from this same course last term, and this term I'm getting an A. Very helpful and teaches while having some fun. Highly recommend.

Excellent professor. I took this class previously with another professor and took an incomplete that went to an F. I got an A+ in this class. Just goes to show how a good professor can change your world! Lots of extra credit opportunities, lots of help from grad assistants. Don't be discouraged by class size. He is great!

Professor flight is really laid back, humorous, and definitely makes learning stats and probability easier. He is very clear and does not go at a fast pace. Do the quizzes and activities and the exams will be easy. He doesnt throw any curve balls in his exams and gives extra credit opportunities.

Really nice guy and kind of funny. He went over the second midterm on crutches while writing every little detail on the board. He wants you to learn. Do the homework and attend class. His tests are easier than classes examples and they are very fair. His grading is fair. No HW due and no papers to write. In class or take home quiz every week.

Honestly... Best teacher I have had. And he's a math teacher! I'll be the first to tell you i am no math wiz. In fact when i took 243 with another teacher i almost failed. Andy explains in a way that makes it easy to understand, he answers questions, and is clear. If you are taking stats be sure to take it with him! No one else, its worth it!

I found his methods to be extremely effective. IMO this is the teacher who should be teaching other teachers how to teach. He is also very friendly and approachable. AAAAAAA++++

Straight forward, clear, and helpful. I hadn't taken a math class in a decade and I was able to get an A. Always answers questions, and gives you all the tools you need to get an A and understand the material. Puts practice tests online before each test so you can know what to expect. I wish I could take him for STAT 244.

Andy is incredibly clear and concise. I recommend him to everyone. He teaches a bit of theory and then moves onto the model (in stats anyway). He won't test you on the theory usually. I found this helpful. He also tests on concepts and not memorizing. 1 page of notes on tests/quiz's and two on the final. Amazing teacher.

I took him for Stats 243 and it was a wonderful experience, especially since he made the lectures interesting and his exams and quizzes to be manageable. However, if you plan on taking stats 244 with a different professor or take any higher stats courses, you will NOT be prepared. Especially if you rely heavily on your notes during his exams.

If you have to take stats. Do yourself a favor and take it with Andy. He's a really nice and extremely forgiving guy. His exams were very thoughtful and allowed for error without massive points loss. His idea of level 1 statistics was NOT ours. Graded on a curve, for sure. However, he explains things very clearly, obviously loves the subject, super friendly, and interesting to listen to, mmkay? Mmkay. I recommend this teacher - just be sure to study because Poisson, Confidence Interval and Chebyshev'll sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Great teacher. Always is there to help his students. If you have to take a math class take it with Andy. Allows notes and calculator on tests. Extremely fair grader, he will follow your error and award points if you sill used the correct methods.

I have taken quite a few college credits (I have one BA and I am getting a second one right now). Andy was one of the best instructors I ever had. EXTREMELY FAIR and allows notes. YOU MUST GET A TI-84 OR TI-83 PLUS. The course will be MUCH easier with it. Andy knows how to use it. Lectures are boring but Andy is a good guy and great teacher.

What an amazing instructor. Stats is really tough and Andy works really hard to bring a good side to it and provide very realistic situations and expectations. He is very helpful with your grades too. I had a late homework and he only docked me 2 points out of 20. Most instructors don't even take late work. He is just an all around fun instructor.

Clear teaching style, good amount of homework, grade evenly based on homework and midtermfinal. Plenty of opportunities to understand and review the material; if you do the homework and pay attention in class, you'll cover the material very well and pass with some challenge.

Great professor! Andy let us use a page of notes on the exams and gave very practice exams with detailed answers. We had 6 homework assignments but the lowest homework score is thrown out. He was could sometimes get a little distracted but always got back on track and was able to explain how to do all of the problems very clearly. Best math prof!

You don't need to buy the book if you show up the class, but you need to do most of the online homework he assigns. His tests are very fair , but challenging. There is usually more than one way to solve the problems he puts on them. Best math teach ever.

Everything positive posted below is true. Within the first 15 minutes of listening to his lecture, you just get a great vibe from Andy. He's very funny & makes statistics so easy to understand and FUN. Fair grader & the workload is easily manageable. Most importantly, you will leave the class understanding the subject. Flight is amazing! i took him after i dropped out of Webbs class. he made stats so easy to understand. math/stats have never been my strong suit but with him i ended up with a 98% in the class. if you go to lectures and pay attention you will do fine. look online for calculator stuff cause he does not always cover that in class.

Andy is a really nice guy, who tries very hard to make the dry logical side of math more interesting. Your graded based off of 2 tests and homework in even thirds, so make sure you are paying attention and doing the homework. As long as your mind is logic driven, this class is not difficult, but can get somewhat confusing with all the notation.

Andy was amazing. He had an awesome positive attitude @ 8:15 in the morning and made you happy that you came to class. His note style was awesome and clearly explained how to do things. If you didn't catch something you could just ask your awesome recitation teacher! Take this class with Andy! He makes it interesting rather than grueling. :)

Andy is an amazing professor especially for statistics which can be a difficult class. There are weekly quizzes and homework which is assigned for you to practice but not graded. He is really laid back and explains the concepts clearly, he answers any questions you have without making you feel like an idiot for asking. HIGHLY recommended.

Andy is a great teacher and I would definitely recommend taking his classes. I am currently in his Stats 241 class and I have done great thanks to him. He is always available to help students and gives great lectures. There is homework, projects and quizzes aside from exams, but he is very flexible about due dates. Also very quirky and fun.

Stats 244 with Andy was, dare I say, easy. He breaks everything down, paces himself well, posts all of his notes for you, and makes all of this statistics stuff seem like a walk in the park. He tests you on the information you need to know and doesn't trouble with the nuanced details. I will honestly miss getting up for his 8am class.

AMAZING professor & one of the best I've had at PSU. His intentions are to set you up for success in his class. He is also open to suggestions. You need a study guide? Ask & he'll make you one. You will not be shocked when it comes around to a test because he will EFFECTIVELY prepare you for it. There is a clear grading criteria.

Started this class pretty bad, didnt do the homework which caused me to do very bad on my midterm. After doing my homework working on other tasks and getting help when needed I got 100/100 on my final and brang my grade up by a whole letter. Great teacher, let's you use one page of notes for both midterms and then two pages for the final. He tells you what is going to be on the midterm/final. He has old tests to help you prepare. Didn't use the textbook much, he's a funny guy. Class is super easy, if you've taken statistics before, easiest A, if you haven't, it's still easy.

I failed stats with another professor. I took this professor the very next term and got an A+. The professor makes all the difference. I am literally writing this review 5 years after graduation. I still remember this class and its lessons and use them frequently. Not only does Prof. Flight make stats easy and fun, but the lessons stay with you.

Andy is a very animated and engaging professor! He has a deep knowledge of statistics. Considering it was an applied class he gave enough theory and background to satisfy people who like to know why it works. I HIGHLY recommend doing the "suggested" problems since the concepts appear on exams but not always on graded homework.

Amazing professor and explains everything very well. Notes are very clear, but if you don't attend lecture, learning the material through his notes can be sometimes difficult due to the material in this class. One issue I have with him is that he is very bad with emails and the best way to contact him is to go to his office hours or lecture.

If you have a choice between any professor and Andrew Flight, choose Flight. I was completely blown away. He is the best mathematics professor I have ever seen (and I've taken a lot of math classes). He explains things in a way that really help you to understand the material and is fair when it comes to grading. You won't find anyone better.

Great professor for calculus! A textbook is required but I barely used it (don't buy it if you know you're not going to use it). He drops the lowest quiz score out of six quizzes, and some quizzes are take home. He lets you use one sided page of notes (8.5 x 11 paper) on exams and for the final, he allows a full page of notes (front and back)!

Andy was a gem. He cared a ton about the his students learning the material and would go out of his way to make sure we understood everything. He was always easy to talk to, and was super willing to help out. I wish I could take the other calc courses from him.

He's a good teacher and friendly for the most part. He teaches by taking notes along with you. Tests/quizzes are not hard, but the quizzes are important to him. He's good at making sure the test is on exactly what we have learned, he'll never give you something that he didn't cover.

Very fair teacher. He is a very engaging teacher, especially for an 8 am class. Weekly quizzes accurately represent what he goes over in class and what is on the test. Stay up on homework and show up and you should do well!

Andy is awesome. The only complaint I have is that the midterm and final are both quite heavy (30% and 35% respectively). Overall, though he lays out the material in an easy to understand way. You must know the material to do well on the exams though. Make sure you do your HW, as it is 25% of your grade. The project is easy and is 10%. Simple.

Andrew is great, He really likes what he does. It's always nice to have a professor that cares more about you being on a good path with something hard. His emphasis on learning not just grading is SO helpful since were not all mathematicians. He really cares to make sense of a very complex subject. Exams are not easy but they are clearly set up.

I don't think you will be able to find someone better to take Statistics remotely than Andy Flight. He made it very accessible

Andy is the perfect undergraduate professor. He is accessible, caring, and puts in the effort to make statistics as easy to learn as possible for all students. Participate and ask questions and you'll have no problem.

Math is my weakness. I switched to Andy after my first week in another professor's class, I DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING from her. Switching to Andy was the right choice for me. As someone who is horrible in math, I learned so much from him. Make sure to review lectures, take notes and always ask questions! He's super chill!

Professor Flight is a real gem. He is seriously so gifted at teaching incredibly difficult materials. This class was very difficult, but with him it was manageable. I really would not want to take this course with other professors just based on difficulty. He is well respected and is a kind man. I would absolutely recommend anyone to take him.

Amazing human. 5 graded homework (1/3 of your grade), midterm, and cumulative final. Problems+solutions are provided about a week before exams (THANK YOU). Would recommend if you're here to learn. You might find yourself overwhelmed if you just show up for the exams.

Best stats professor I have ever had. He makes learning new concepts incredibly easy, just pay attention and you're destined to succeed in his class. His office hours are a great resource too and you can tell he really enjoys helping out his students.

He explained the concepts in ways that were clear and easy to grasp. He also recorded his lectures so you could still have the lecture content if you missed a day or two. I was struggling to get some assignments in at the end of the term, but he gave me an extension for them. Definitely one of the best professors I've taken at PSU.

Hands down best calc professor I've ever had, especially with math being a subject I REALLY struggle in. His textbooks are free (I never read it to be honest), gives extra credit, you can use notes on exams, gives partial credit, homework extensions whenever you ask, and is all around a funny, respectful, caring, and very understanding professor.

All his classes are recorded if you ever miss a day. Please don't expect to pass the class if you never go to any of his lectures (or watch it). 90% of the questions he asks on exams and quizzes come from the lecture. Not the homework or textbook. He is a SUPER sweet professor. I struggle in math but it was an easy A by how good he is. Flight FTW!!

I can't sit through a 2 hour (math of all things) lecture without getting distracted. My attention span isn't that good compared to others. However, Flight always gives long breaks during class that has helped me stay on top of things. He's funny and super kind. There's no way you can fail with the amount of extra credit and late passes he gives!!!

This course alone has been the highlight of my freshman year. Professor Flight is infectiously positive, and very clearly cares about math and his students. When he saw how engaged we were, he was willing to give back to the class, and make grading more lenient, and kept articulating how proud of us he was. I hope to see him more down the line.

Pretty good class. He does his best to make sure everyone understands & that if you need extra help he is happy to help! The homework is online based & you can get passes to turn it in late. You don't always have to go to class but is recommended to stay on top of it especially to understand the homework. He allows notes to be used on tests & exams

Very good teacher. Explained the subject well and was always prepared. The lectures he gave were not too heavy as sometimes he allowed for students to work together and then figure it out together as a class.

This was my first Math class since COVID-19 started I was nervous at first but Professor Andrew made the class enjoyable and easy to learn. Great office hours! I would most definitely choose him again!

Extremely gifted at teaching beginner level mathematics while also being very knowledgeable about intermediate and advanced mathematics. If you're a math or statistics major, this is your guy.

Professor Andrew is an excellent math teacher. He explains concepts clearly and is always happy to help during office hours. Using Unstuck AI along with the free course materials really helped me ace this class.

He is the greatest of all time professor. I understand all of his lectures and i usually feel lost with other math prof however he changed the game for me. I still don't like math but i enjoy it becuase of him.

These reviews do not give enough justice to this professor. Everything said here is true about him. Math is a subject I struggle with, and he does an amazing job breaking it down in class and office hours. Absolutely recommend taking a class with Andy, to anyone who needs to take math classes. He's incredibly down to earth, and loves his students!

"Okay? mkay." Shoes off in class. Loves teaching, hates grading. If you are into math then Andy is your friend, and if not, then by the end of the class you'll be hungry for more. Answers all questions literally gives infinite late passes. Take your time and work consistently and you'll discover the mathematician within you. Full recommendation!!!!

Andy is great. his enthusiasm is contagious and he knows what hes talking about. he offers practice for quizzes and tests and explains really well. like any math class, it's necessary to attend and not be distracted. Hes a great professor

Andy is an excellent instructor. After his class, concepts I struggled with made better sense. The material was challenging, but he provides practice before quizzes and outlines what to study. I'm sad he's not teaching Calc 1. He makes 9 a.m. math bearable; he's also super hilarious. I'd retake him! Team Flight!!!

The only mistake I made here is not taking class with Professor Flight soonerHe truly want all his students to success he always give us a chances to do our work, late passes, extra credits, best score count There is no way anybody will fail his class if you at least do your homework's and study cover everything we learn in (he does not trick you)
