This guy is awesome. He keeps class interesting and tells you what is exactly on each exam. If every teacher was like him I would gladly go to class everyday!
You watch a lot of movies, and he tells you exactly what's on the exam. His lectures are long, but it's an easy class. He gives hot seat quizzes regularly for attendance.
Freed is awesome and hilarious. Makes really nerdy jokes a lot. We just watch a ton of movies and he makes the lectures interesting. Exams are pretty clear cut and he goes over everything on the test. He's also super nice, even to give us an alternate exam date early in the week before break, so we don't have to wait around on campus.
I LOVE this class! if he taught every class at purdue you would get an A. He is nice and funny. The power points are interesting bc he adds videos to them.
Very easy class. Funny and entertaining lectures. Freed has a very generous grading policy. I'd be shocked if anyone could fail this class.
Dr. Freed is a fantastic professor! I laughed multiple times in every one of his lectures. He is passionate about what he teaches and makes it incredibly practical to students' lives. I did not want this class to end. It was that enjoyable.
Freed is an amazing professor. I love attending his lectures and actually look forward to them. I wish he taught more classes for me to take! Lectures and entertaining and I love telling people the information I pick up from the class.
I loved taking this class - it was such a nice break from my other ones . Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does give in class participation quizzes a lot. There isn't really any reason not to go to lecture, anyway - he makes it very entertaining. Don't bother buying the textbook - all the homework questions can be googled.
I don't like science and I can say, this class is very easy as long as you go to the review sessions that he holds for the students. The material is not hard and he explains everything very well by using videos and demonstrations. If you need a science class, this is the class to take. You have four exams and no cumulative final.
Professor Andrew Freed's class is super easy and fun. He's hilarious and work load is light. The only things graded in this class are weekly movie quizzes (these are super easy!), hot seat questions (you only need to answer one of them to get credit for the day), and exams (which he literally gives you the answers for in his review sessions).
Amazing professor! Really responsive, tells how the exam is going to be. Really easy class!
I have nothing but the highest regards for Dr. Freed. He is widely knowledgeable in fields ranging from mechanics to geology, and is almost always open to questions/offering help. So far (Sophomore), he has been my favorite professor at Purdue.
Purdue is lucky to have this guy. Interesting class, surprisingly more relevant to life than other electives, easy to get a good grade if you put in any effort.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof. Freed is very knowledgeable & enthusiastic about what he teaches. He's personable & funny. This class is all lecture & participation matters (lowest 3 participation grades are dropped). Quizzes (online) aren't bad & neither are exams (in class), though studying is a must. I'd take another of his classes for sure!
What an awesome class. I learned things without even knowing it, and that's how you can tell he's a good professor.
Andy Freed is a legend. I just finished up EAPS 105 with him, which was great, and EAPS 106 is up next. He makes me look forward to coming to class, and he has an incredible personality. Take a class with Prof. Freed is you get a chance, trust me! It is an incredible decision. Great professor, and an even better guy. You truly do learn a lot!!!
This is an insanely easy class, but Freed is so enthusiastic that it's hard not to enjoy it. Workload is pretty minimal and during his review sessions he essentially gives you the answers to his exams. He's a really nice guy and always listens to student feedback. Overall enjoyable class that will also boost your GPA.
This professor is incredible! He designed a class that is incredibly enjoyable, where you learn a lot, and also very easy. His lectures are incredible and he truly cares about teaching. I recommend everyone take his class.
The BEST teacher I have ever had. I wish I could have him every semester. He is so undeniably funny and caring and passionate about what he's teaching. If you have the opportunity to take his class, don't pass up on it. Truly the best of Purdue.
It's EAPS 106, the most enjoyable class at Purdue. Most of the quiz answers are online and the textbook is easily found online as well. He edits movie clips to make them hilarious and overall the class is super enjoyable. A must have before graduating from Purdue!
Andy Freed is THE MAN! EAPS 106 is the most enjoyable class that I have taken so far at Purdue! It is one of those rare classes where I am genuinely excited for lecture to see what Andy will say or demonstrate next. The homework and tests are very reasonable. If possible, ask him about his very interesting personal history. One of Purdue's best!
The best professor I've ever had at Purdue. He genuinely wants people to learn, and provides resources for anyone struggling. The exams are easy, as he gives you the material you need to know before. Every lecture was incredibly entertaining, and I learned a lot.
So far the BEST professor I have had (sophomore). He is definitely interested in students passing the class and actually learning stuff. He basically gives away the answer for exams the lecture before the exams, and the questions on study guides are literally the ones from exams. Exams are 60 multiple choice/true and false questions. EASY A+.
Easy class and awesome prof
Honestly my favorite professor at Purdue. He is always so excited about what he teaches and goes through so much effort to show us cool examples. I love how you can ask him questions about anything EAPS related on Hotseat. I have learned and enjoyed this class so much because of him.
Freed was a very good prof. He made lectures interesting and was great communicating with everyone and getting information out.
One of the most interesting Professors on Purdue's Campus. Treats all students with respect, and wants you leaving the class with new knowledge and feeling like you matter.
He's great! Took EAPS 105 and 106 with him. He really cares that you learn. Both classes are easy A.
You'll learn a lot about the subject matter due to Prof. Freed being passionate about the class. Great professor.
He really cares about his students and wants them to take some science knowledge with them. Great class for non-science and science majors alike! He always has demonstrations and his lectures are full of great videos. Take both his 106 (Natural Disasters in Cinemas) and 105 (the Planets) classes!
Dr. Freed will be one of your favorite professors at Purdue. He is passionate and caring. He does fun experiments to better explain the topics and knows how to keep us engaged. His exams are really easy because he gives you review slides with all of the information you need on it. 10/10 recommend taking this class!
cool dude
He is very passionate and does an incredible job teaching the material to students who likely have little to no prior knowledge.
I loved Professor Freed. He explained everything in ways that made sense and he was also really hilarious. Nobody in my class ever audibly laughed at his jokes and comments, but I had to refrain from cackling. You need to be in class for the hotseat questions, but they arent hard. also go to the review sessions, they helped me ace every exam!
Professor Freed was my favorite professor this semester. He makes his lectures entertaining and cares about his students. The class was easy to get in A in, but the material was still interesting.
Professor Freed is one of the best professors's I've had here at Purdue. He knows a lot about the subject at hand and I can tell he is very passionate about it. His lectures, videos, and in class experiments are all fascinating and can get any space enthusiast to get engulfed by the subject. He cares about his students and wants them to LEARN.
I had Andrew Freed for EAPS 105, and he was amazing! He really enjoys teaching this course, and you can definitely tell! You have to show up to class because he has Hotseat quizzes worth 12 points per class, and those quickly add up if you skip even a couple. However, if you show up and fill out the study guide, you are going to ace the class.
Genuinely cares about the well-being of all 200+ of his students in EAPS106. Extremely knowledgeable in his field, and although there were occasional tangents in his lectures, he always finishes what he needs to get through and released class on time. You can tell right away that a lot of work was put into his curriculum.
Professor Freed genuinely understands that most people who are taking his classes are looking to fulfill their science elective credit, so he makes the class as easy as possible. His tests are based on the study guides he gives you, which are from the slides. You have to go to 20 out of 22 classes for hotseat points, but lectures are interesting.
He's very straightforward. His classes are easy if you show up to class and at least mildly pay attention. You will have to study a good amount for the exams that are fair and far between.
Class was super easy. You show up, get your participation credit, and pass easy assignments.
Good lectures and always stylin'. I've seen him around campus as well; he's a very relaxed and cool guy.
You can really tell Dr. Freed is passionate about what he teaches, and it translates into his lectures. He replies to any questions you have in Hotseat and gets a lecture hall of 400 to listen. You have to put in your work for the class but it's very doable and you learn a lot.
Dr. Freed used used HotSeat to check in on the class and took the time to respond genuinely to every single post. What a guy. Andy Freed is the best. EAPS 106 is the best.
Easily my favorite prof at Purdue. Lectures are interesting and the movies fit really well with the class topics. He is so fun and caring. Definitely recommend him, EAPS 106 has been one of my favorite Purdue classes so far and it's because of him.
Professor Freed is without a doubt the most caring professor on campus. I took his class as an elective and was very glad I did. He truly cares about his students and makes a class of 500 feel like a class of 5. If you ever have an open credit sign up for his classes!!
Andrew Freed is my favorite professor to this day. He cares very much about what he teaches and makes his lectures very engaging. I plan to take another class with him just so I can have him as my professor again! If you have a chance to take one of his classes, do it.
Freed is an amazing professor. He is super helpful and he is very passionate about what he teaches. Whether you are in a STEM major or not, you will love his class.
This class was one of my favorites at Purdue... and it has nothing to do with my major! Prof. Freed is a fantastic lecturer, showing how passionate he is about the planetary science and the movies! It is a very fun and easy class that anybody should take for a good time
Best professor at Purdue, made a topic that is completely unrelated to my major extremely fun and enjoyable. He clearly loves what he does and I've never seen a professor so caring and mindful of his students. He prepares the best study guides I've ever seen so you can easily follow allow with the lecture and fill them out for exams.
Great professor, great class, highly recommend to anyone no matter what major. Take it as an elective, it'll make school more enjoyable, even in a pandemic.
Prof. Freed is fun and excited about what he does. He structures the class in such a way that makes it educational while remaining easy and enjoyable. He has made learning fun for me... something most teachers manage to take away sadly.
This professor really cares about his students and their success within his classroom! He understands the various situations students may deal with outside of class and his lectures are very thorough and amazing, and east to follow along! Amazing professor, and amazing class structure!!!
This guy is literally the nicest man on Earth! He is always willing to help you and will answer any question you have and it doesn't even have to be about his class. I would take every single class he has if I could.
Literally the best Professor Ive even had. Easy going, understanding, actually explains material well and makes it interesting. If youre looking for a professor to enjoy listening to, Professor Freed is the man.
Amazing professor D
Professor Freed is very knowledgeable on the subject he teaches! Not only that, he knows how to keep you interested in the lecture and enjoy coming to class! One of my favorite classes I have taken at Purdue, I only wish there was a part two.
Professor Freed is one of the best teachers out there and my favorite professor at Purdue. I hope to have him again.
Cares about his students. Was a nice relaxing yet still interesting class and was my favorite class during the struggles of my freshman year while in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Will definitely look to take another class with him!
Best professor at Purdue. Really cares about what he teaches and makes it fun for the students. As long as you go to class its super easy to fill out the study guide and the homework is relatively easy as well. Plus you get to watch movies as a part of homework.
I really like how engaging he made the class, even during COVID. He gave the option of a live stream lecture which I liked because some people weren't comfortable going to an in-person class. He was always so excited and passionate about what he talks about and that always gets the students excited about coming to class. Great professor!!!
I feel that I have leaned a lot about the world and natural disasters through this course and from Professor Freed. Great instructor and definitely would recommend!
Love this guy! Great Prof and I respect him so so so much.
He is such a nice guy! He is open for any questions at any time, his email is always open. Exams were great to take because he gives a great study guide that helps so much! There are two assignments per week but they are not hard at all and pretty much straight forward if you watch the lectures/read the book, and watch the movie.
Honestly I was legit sad when I had my last class with him. Prof Freed is such a kindhearted guy who is so passionate about his subject and his students. I'm not in planetary science but I am totally going to try to take his other classes just cuz I can. 10/10 prof
Professor Freed was by far the best professor I have had at Purdue. He not only made his classes fun, but he truly cares about his students. He knew how hard this semester was for us, and took many actions to make sure he was not the cause of our stress. He is such a kindhearted man and I highly suggest taking one of his classes if you can!
Exams are too hard for me
I'd describe him in one sentence - the best professor I've ever had, probably the best human being in the world.
He's the best professor I have ever had. The study guides are just like the exams and at least during COVID he lets you (actually wants you) to use it during the exam. He is super caring and very passionate about earth scientists. There are homeworks and movie worksheets due almost every week but they are super easy. There are also hot seat quizzes
Can't recommend him enough. Even with all the pandemic restrictions he made the class engaging both inside the classroom and outside. If you take the course with him you won't be disappointed.
Freed is the nicest professor at Purdue. He makes his class very enjoyable, and is passionate about his teaching. Even though this class is one of the easiest classes at Purdue he lowered the grade cutoffs because students were struggling with Covid. He is the is the most understanding and caring professor out there.
Freed is hands down the best professor at Purdue. He is very nice, keeps lectures interesting, and makes the class easy for students. All of the tests essentially ask study guide questions (he let us use the study guide on tests in Fall 2020). What sets him apart from other profs is that he truly cares about the mental health of students.
The coolest class at Purdue it seems
Freed is by far one of the most well liked and respected professors Ive had! He has done leaps and miles to make sure his students are prepared for success. This past semester he gave everyone bonus points because of the difficulties caused by covid. Class itself is easy, use the textbook for the hw, and use the notes for exams.
Absolutely fantastic
Such a good professor that cares for his students and understands the difficulty of learning during a pandemic.
Professor Freed was truly one of the best teachers I've ever had. Freed knows that most people only take his class to get their STEM credit but he has such a passion for space that it really shows. He made the class as easy as possible, you get every single question on exams through the study guide. Life is good while you're in his class.
This guy is awesome. Would love to have him as my dad! Fr tho..
Super fun classes, super easy. Actively wants you to succeed. Brilliant, former NASA engineer. I love him and want him to adopt me.
His class was interesting and a lot of fun.
This man is the best professor Purdue has to offer. He always cared and responded to questions either that were about the class or about life. Wanted people in Quarantine to keep us updated because he cared about us. He loves the class topics and shows so much care in his work. This definitely was the best thing about COVID Purdue.
Andy is one of the best profs at Purdue - and probably at any college. He has so much passion for his field and is so welcoming, caring, and enthusiastic in sharing that with his students. He genuinely wants us to learn. Even for people outside EAPS, you'll love it. If you have the chance to take a class with Andy, please do, you won't regret it.
I absolutely love Freed. Coming to class was only optional but I truly enjoyed walking 15 minutes in the cold just to be there in person. Hes so passionate about the subject of space and hes so interesting to learn from. His lectures are very interesting and he makes sure we all understand the criteria. He even let me make up 3 diff. Late quizzes
Andrew Freed is a dad and a half. He is genuine, understanding, and a professor who really wants his students to learn in the best way for them. Keep rocking the sandals Prof. Freed. Also you can adopt me if you want.
Wants to make sure his students are not stressed at all. Open note tests.
Awesome professor, very wise man.
Very solid class structure, no hidden assignments, open note exams with all the answers found in the slides. Would recommend.
Professor Freed is among the best on campus. He prepares fantastic lectures, shows real care for students, and clearly loves what he teaches! Exam content comes straight from lecture slides and homework is not overly difficult. Great class for all majors.
Professor Freed is really nice. He cares about his student, prepares fun lectures and loves what he's teaching. The questions of exams are just all from his slides. He gave a lot of extra credit. Just love him OMG
Really great teacher - super easy class
Professor Freed has to be one of the best teachers I have ever had across all forms of schooling. He is knowledgeable about any topic brought up within the confines of his classroom and he made me want to learn more. I even took another one of his courses just to have another semester with him. Thanks Prof Freed!
Professor Freed cares very deeply about his students and also about the content he teaches. I took EAPS106 in the fall and decided to take 105 in the spring even though it did not count toward any required credits. I really enjoy his lectures and always looked forward to them.
Andy is to 5 Profs at Purdue! His lectures include demonstrations, pop culture references, & film clips! Very engaging! Just 2 homework assignments weekly that go along with the reading & an exam every 4th week. My only complaint is that he virtue signals too much.
Professor Freed is far and away the best professor I've ever had at Purdue. He truly cares about his class and the material, and it reflects in his easy going yet informative lectures. He also cares deeply about every student, and is very flexible and helpful when it comes to making sure you get the grade you want.
I can't say enough good things about Prof. Freed. This class had nothing to do with my major and I took it as a blow-off class, but his lectures are often very interesting and I found his class to quickly be one of my all time favorites. If you get the chance to take a class with Freed, do yourself a favor and take that opportunity
I didn't know what to expect when I took this class and was very pleasantly surprised! This class was structured very well, covered interesting topics, and was pretty straightforward and easy. Great professor who cares about his students and is very passionate about the subject!
Freed is the best professor Ive had at Purdue. Theres a basic format for each week, homework (textbook use), movie worksheet, and 2 participation quizzes linked to the two weekly lectures. He offers extra credit at the end of the semester, so if you do your work, you will have an A in the class. Very easy, highly recommend.
Professor Freed is a true gem. He not only truly cares about the topics he lectures on , but he also genuinely cares about his students. Truthfully, I took this class to boost by GPA and while it definitely helped with that it also helped boost morale. I can't say enough great things about Professor Freed and would highly suggest any of his classes
Not much can be said that hasnt been said already; Prof. Freed is an excellent professor. I only took this class for a requirement but I ended up really enjoying it! He acknowledges that there are a lot of people not majoring in Earth Science and sort of gears the class towards them. He even gave us extra credit just because of COVID! Great guy :)
Very thoughtful and overall such a good professor
This dude when on a rant about how Eris and Pluto are planets and if anyone disagrees they can screw themselves. I took EAPS for a credit, but his lectures always manage to interest me in a topic I have no interest in. There is never any fluff or useless information given. 10/10, great guy.
Professor Freed is really passionate about what he teaches. Make sure you do hotseats. Always willing to answer questions, loves when students ask him questions.
One of the best teachers on campus. Any question you have he will answer through Hotseat if it pertains to the subject. I've been in lecture halls of 500 and he's answered my question on Hotseat during the lecture. He's passionate about what he does and deserves all the good reviews he's gotten.
I can't say anything that hasn't already been said - Professor Freed is quite possibly the best professor I've had at Purdue because of how engaging and accessible he makes his classes and material. He always finds ways to make things interesting and though I took the class as an elective, it's one I enjoyed the most out of all.
Prof. Freed was an amazing professor. Since I'm not a "sciencey" person, I was nervous to take EAPS105. But, Prof. Freed makes it very easy. He lets you use study guides on all of the exams, and most points are just attendance and participation. Definitely recommend his class to get science requirements met. Easy A.
There's a reason why he's at the top.
I´m going, to be honest with you, I don´t have this class or teacher but I have sat in on a few of his lectures and he seems like a great professor. His lectures are interesting and keep people engaged.
He is a really great prof. 4 exams, in-class participation, and weekly homework. Super laid back. The easiest class I have ever taken. He gives you the study guides before lecturing and questions are usually word for word on the exam.
Professor Freed is the best professor you will have at Purdue. As of Fall 2021, 30% of your grade is just showing up (which you can get around) 30% is homework (1 assignment per week) that has homework banks in quizlets online, and 40% is on open note, non proctored tests. Best GPA booster you can take, while if you still want to learn, you can.
He's an amazing professor, and he truly cares about students learning.
There's not one bad thing about Freed or any of his courses. The worst mistake you could make at Purdue is to skip out on one of his classes.
Best teacher I ever had. I loved space before I took this class but it made me even more interested.
Dr. Freed works very hard to make the content of his course as interesting as possible, and succeeds in doing so. He keeps things interesting by showing movie clips, physical examples, and many more. Hes a great professor and cares about his students. Showing up to class and doing the weekly homework/exam guides will get you an A.
The best professor I've ever had. If you like space or astronomy take his class, I beg you. He's one of the best professors on campus and probably the state. Enriching, rewarding, fascinating, I cannot recommend his classes enough. Even though I was asynchronous, I enjoyed every lecture and watched them on my own free will. 10/10, A+, a real gem.
Such an amazing teacher, you can tell he really loves teaching and cares about his students. One of my favorite classes just because of how good of a teacher he is. A very easy class, he really wants you to succeed.
I would consider EAPS 106 with Professor Freed something that every Purdue student should have on their college bucket list. It's an easy class, he gives great lectures, and it's a good escape from more rigorous course work. Definitely one of the best instructors I've ever had.
Professor Freed is the GOAT. Truly an amazing person. I'm going to miss seeing him every Tuesday and Thursday.
Prof. Freed is just a super cool guy. He makes sure that his class is interesting and engaging. His lectures are a lot of fun and they're informative as well - I retained a lot of the information I learned in this class. Definitely a great experience! The assigned work is light, and it's easy if you go to class and do the reading/watch the movies.
Probably the first time I was excited about going to class. Learned a lot about Earth and space. Skipped mandatory class once because I was cramming for an exam, cheated for participation via HotSeat, and got caught. Instead of being reported to the dean of students, he just gave me -10 points. I apologized and he gave replaced the -10 with a 0.
Prof Freed is a great guy and really knows what his students expect when taking the class. He understands that it is an elective class, and treats it as such. All you need to do is go to class for the hotseat quizzes (do not miss any, it will kill your grade), and fill out the study guide.
Andy Freed truly cares about all of his classes and students whether you chose to take the online section or the in-person section. There were hotseat quizzes for the in-person section you just had to answer them, but the online sections had to correctly answer them. He made class fun with lots of video clips and demonstrations. Open note exams
Cinema of the geosciences was the best class I took at Purdue. Took it in fall semester as a senior and its just a relaxing, interesting class. He knows what he is talking about and is super passionate about it so his lectures are actually fun to watch and you actually want to watch! Definitely take this class with Freed before you graduate.
Such a great professor. Take any of his classes.
I literally never went to class or read anything. When I did go though he was actually entertaining to listen to. 10/10 class
Took the class virtually, so I didnt really experience his lectures, but I know people loved him. I heard people even clapped for him at the last class. Very easy course and interesting materials. I was able to learn without much stress at all. Tests are easy if you follow the study guide. Just do the work and youre good!
Only professor I have ever had who you can complain to about personal problems on Hotseat, and he responds with thoughtful advice and support in less than 24 hours. You are missing out of you dont take this mans class.
I would take this class over and over again if I could. He's just such a great, kind and funny person and he really cares about everyone.
One of the best professors in the EAPS department. His lectures are extremely interesting, well thought out, and not too hard to understand. He is very funny and presents space topics in an easily relatable way. I loved taking this class and plan to take another taught by him just because I know it will be a good time. Highly recommend.
Everything you've heard about Professor Freed is true. He's passionate, knowledgeable, and fair. His lectures are unparalleled and he has a very clear grading criteria. He makes learning fun. It is not hard to get the A if you just come to class and put a little effort in.
His class is super easy and he is interesting to listen to
Freed is a great professor! His class is super entertaining and enjoyable. The class itself is easy and as long as you put in a little effort you should have no problem getting an easy A. He is also very communicative, and is always willing to help if you reach out.
One of the best professors at Purdue. Very easy "A" with little to no effort as study guides are made and shared with the class to be used on 4 exams that are online as of 2022.
Best professor on planet earth
Loved his class
Love his class
If you are required to take an EAPs class for your major, take any class taught by Prof Freed.
Prof Freed was amazing. I have taken 2 of his classes and both have been great. He cares about his students and really wants them to learn. Every sunday morning he sends out a briefing listing everything that was due and will be due. He really cares about what he teaches as well. He keeps the class engaged through experiments and jokes. Great man.
Very good Professor
Knows that his class material isnt every students cup of tea, he is the highest rated professor here at Purdue for a reason and that's not just because his class is easy. He does require attendance but the lectures aren't entirely boring and most pay attention cuz they do have lots of movie clips, he really knows how to sell his field to students.
Professor Freed uses the website Hotseat for attendance in class. I WANTED to show up, not for the grade but cause he is awesome and made the presentations interesting. From launching mentos filled cokes to the ceiling or overlapping a cgi explosion with Pink Floyd music, the class was great.
Amazing lectures
Wouldn't be surprised if Freed ended up remaining the best professor I've had by the time I graduate.
I loved his class, and if I had time in my schedule, I would 100% take another class. I was able to have a conversation with Prof. Freed, and his intelligence was outstanding. Not only does he have book smarts, but he has high emotional intelligence/ people skills. He cares for all students and wants us to succeed, apparent from day 1.
Just awesome. Such interesting lectures
TAKE ANY CLASS WITH PROFESSOR FREED.
Take any of his classes if you need a science requirement. Best prof at Purdue.
He is very knowledgeable and has real experience with quality stories, I plan to take more classes with him in the future.
I thoroughly enjoy coming to lectures, but the exams can be pretty tricky if you don't pay attention. Make sure to fill out the study guides he gives you in the class. Attendance isn't 'mandatory' but gives points as "participation quizzes" and you can receive extra credit plus free points towards your grade just for showing up and following alone.
Took this class online for a science elective. Was super easy and I enjoyed his lectures. He gives you a lot of points for participation (hot seat quizzes/brightspace quizzes). Exams are pretty easy because you can use lecture notes and the internet for them. Would definitely take again!
Very easy teacher. He obviously loves to teach. My advisor recommended him to me because they had heard from many students that he was fantastic and universally loved. Very easy, kind, and fair, amazing professor. His lectures are very educational and entertaining.
i will defend this man with my life
legend
Very fun and entertaining lectures. There are some trick questions on the weekly quizzes sometimes. Really easy class to pass if you just do the assignments on time. The wording on the exams is tricky and can mess you up sometimes.
If you watch all of the lectures then you will have a great experience in this class!
probably one of the best professors at purdue. you can tell he actually cares about what he teaches. the class is super easy, I would highly suggest taking his class if you don't like science but need a science credit. what he teaches is actually interesting if you pay attention.
Prof. Freed is just the best. I was in the online section, and although lecture quizzes were tedious, they helped reinforce some things. All exams open-book, non-cumulative, with easy hw and movie sheets. Most of the movies were enjoyable too. Easy A or not, the course is beyond interesting and challenged what I thought I knew before taking it.
Had him my first semester into college. 10/10 would recommend and take again. Super easy class, minimal work, easy exam points. Lectures are informative and hilarious. If you take all 24 participation quizzes you get 20 extra credit points at the end.
Professor Freed is amazing. I took his class online and actually looked FORWARD to his asynchronous lectures! Along with being really knowledgeable about EAPS, he is also very kind and easy to talk to via the Hotseat. If you have the chance to take one of Professor Freed's classes, TAKE THEM!!!!
What is there to say that everyone else hasn't already? Professor Freed is simply one of the best professors you can have. Freed is extremely knowledgeable and passionate and gives amazing lectures. Also he makes it extremely easy to do well in the course so the students can actually enjoy learning everything without having to stress about grades.
Was by far my favorite and easiest class, as he provides all the information for exams and all the assignments. He knows what he is doing and he shows that he cares for his students to do well and understand the lectures. He made me interested in the topics he covered and I wish I could take his class again!
This professor not only made his lectures extremely interesting, entertaining, and informational, but he also really cared about his students and their success. The homework assignments helped students learn the necessary material and every exam question came from the study guide!
Amazing prof. He's funny and makes his expectations and guidelines clear. Be prepared for random due dates but besides that, really easy class.
King
I think this might be one of my favorite classes I have taken at Purdue. He is an incredible lecturer and his assignments/quizzes/exams are easy, he presents exact information that you will need to complete any of them. He is also funny and clearly loves what he teaches. 10/10
Andrew Freed is truly the best of the best. Even though I chose this class because I knew it was an easy A, I actually enjoyed his lectures and paid attention because he's really passionate about it. He also cares a lot about his students and will give you so many opportunities to get an A+.
I took this class online and it was super easy and manageable. Definitely recommend it if you are looking for an easier science credit. Professor Freed is very kind and truly seems to care about students' learning.
Super easy and a lot of fun. Easily my favorite class at Purdue
There's not much I can say that hasn't been said in the numerous responses below me. Probably my favorite professor at Purdue so far. Very personable and you can tell he really loves what he's teaching about. Makes it very hard to do poorly in his class. Would absolutely take another one of his classes without hesitation.
Professor Freed is one of the most caring professors on campus. Numerous times he has gone out to meet students outside of campus. While the stuff we cover can be complicated for those not going into planetary science Prof Freed makes it so anyone can understand the material. Very easy course if you do the work and follow his study guide.
I'm not a space-planetary science fanatic but I took this course to satisfy university requirements. I love this course, prof. Freed is one of the most unbelievable people I have met, he loves and cares about his students. He is easy going and sooooo hilarious. Prof.Freed will make a rather not-so-interesting topic interesting, totally recomend it
Wonderful professor. He makes learning the content enjoyable and really gives thought on how to successfully create a 4-week online summer course. I enjoyed every part of this course and would highly recommend it for other students who want to get some credit over the summer and want a fun class to do that.
Always willing to help and answer questions.
This professor clearly cares about what he's teaching. He's hilarious and lets you watch movies related to the class. You will absolutely love this professor. He's definitely a character
Easily the best professor I have had at Purdue so far. Took both EAPS 105 and 106 back to back, and both of them were equally enjoyable and engaging. Despite not being related to my main course of study, his class was definitely the best part of my week. Exams are pulled straight from the study guide, which can easily be filled out during lectures.
I reached out to him before and he was very passive aggressive in his responses.
His classes were honestly so much fun. I really enjoyed his demonstrations and the movie clips he showed in class. Despite it's an intro level class and it's gen ed, he makes me feel like he actually cared about the class.
Professor Freed is the best. Really funny, easy to reach outside of class, and one of the best at being relatable. Would 100% take another class taught by him if I have the chance.
Professor Freed provides amazing online lectures. I knew nothing about space and planets, but his lectures were very interesting and inspirational. He constantly updated announcements and helped us get on track, and he provided all exam questions in the revision material. Quick to get back on discussion boards and emails even during Christmas.
TAKE THIS COURSE!! i took both eaps 105 and 106. best decision ever, huge GPA booster, trust. Professor Freed is the best I ever had. I always feel so happy in his lectures
Prof. Freed is everything you want in a professor: Well spoken, caring, wise (both pertaining to his field of study and life as a whole), accommodating, and humorous. His lectures are informative and entertaining, and it is clear he cares about his students and is extremely accommodating. His assignments are straight forward and easy to complete.
SO GOOD
Prof. Freed is the best professor I have had at Purdue, he makes lectures very interesting, he tells stories from his time as an engineer, and he is just a generally very caring, friendly, and funny man. If you can, take a class with Freed.
One of the best professors I've had at Purdue. Super easy course, but you actually feel like you learned a lot and got to do it in a fun way.
Amazing professor, genuinely one of the funniest guys. He definitely cares about what he is teaching and his students. If your a business major and need a science credit you need to take this class.
Great guy, genuinely cares about what he's teaching and makes his lectures properly interesting. His taste in movies is pretty good too! EAPS 106 is a very easy course and the movies are well worth the watch and analysis, and professor Freed runs the course beautifully.
one of the best professors at purdue
This was a great class. It was fun if you like space even a little bit.
Prof Freed is easily one of the best professors at Purdue. His lectures are engaging and entertaining, and he genuinely cares about student success. Using Unstuck AI and the free textbook made studying a breeze. Highly recommend this class!
Andy Freed makes his lectures super interesting and interactive and even brings in samples of meteorites for his students to see in person. You can tell that he really cares about what he's teaching us and he really cares about his students too because he makes an effort to show each of us, even the online students, the samples that he brings in.
Loved Prof. Freed and his lectures! Super engaging and did a great job explaining the material. If you are sensitive, note that some of the disaster movies can be sad or graphic (Prof. Freed always prefaces these with a warning). Highly recommend taking this class, especially if you're a senior looking for an easy and relaxing class.
Professor Freed is a great professor. I loved watching his demonstrations in class. The movies for the class were interesting and the worksheets were easy. *YOU GET TO WATCH TWISTERS!!!!!* Most of the homework/worksheets you can find on Quizlet if you are struggling, but overall easy class.
You can tell he is passionate and very knowledgeable. Homework is very straightforward. Exams directly reflect the lecture slides. Attendance is mandatory but I really wouldn't mind showing up anyway because the lectures and demos are enjoyable.
Fantastic. No complaints.
He is the single greatest professor at this University. Bucket list class at Purdue. If you don't take his classes you are genuinely missing out. Be sure to be there for the volcano lecture. He shoots Coke and Mentos 20 feet in the air!
Freed is very passionate and makes his lectures interesting. Attendance is 30% of your grade and is recorded through iClicker. The homework assignments are easy and simple, and exams are the same way (if you get stuck use Quizlet). I'd suggest filling out the study guide throughout the lectures and you should easily excel in this course.
He is a great professor and I highly recommend. Pretty easy as long as you do the work. I am taking another one of his classes next semester because it was very enjoyable. I took it online and enjoyed being able to pause the lectures to write stuff down to make sure I don't miss any info. Best prof at Purdue!
I loved professor Freed. He is obviously passionate about what he teaches and it makes lectures so much more enjoyable. I took the class online, and as long as you do the participation quizzes and fill out the study guide, it's super easy to get an A.
He is most definitely the best professor I've had. He is passionate about the subject and is the type of person who can make you like the content even if you didn't before. Unfortunately, I didn't get a seat for the in-person section because the lectures were worth attending.
Taking a class with professor Freed was very fun! Some of the lectures are boring and you really just have to get through them, but others i never wanted to stop! He does use iclicker so just come to the lecture and you'll be fine. He gives one piece of hw a week and there are 4 exams that he gives a study guide pulled straight from the exam.
Professor Freed is an amazing lecturer and very passionate about what he speaks about. EAPS 105 was a very fun and easy class to take, so I recommend taking it if you're looking for a GPA boost or something fun to add on to your schedule. Only downside is attendance for lectures is required for points since iClicker is used.
He really does care! Lectures are fun!
Professor Freed was probably the most engaged professor I have had. He really cares about his lectures and students. For the online portion you have to do 2 asynchronous quizzes weekly, a homework assignment, and a worksheet that goes along with the movie of the week. It is sometimes time consuming, but it is all really easy work.
Professor Freed is one of the best professors at Purdue. The online section was super easy, the work only took me about 15 min every time. There are 2 lecture quizzes and a homework every week with an exam every 3. Even with so many students, he makes himself really accessible and flexible. A great class to take for non-STEM majors.
Would recommend his classes
Freed is an icon and this was the best class I've taken so far.
Incredible class! Engaging lectures and fascinating content, I wish I could experience taking the course for the first time again.
The Goat, take as many of his classes as possible
If I took this class again I would take it online. Freed's lectures are engaging and fun, but I see no benefit in taking the course in person over online. Freed goes over fun topics and fun movies.
The GOAT. Take this class online, it makes everything much easier as you make your own schedule, very easy to get A+, For the exams you make your study guides, and can use them. Love the class 10/10 recommend.
Professor Freed is all around amazing. Class was very interesting, and you can tell how much he loves the subject, which makes you want to love it too. GOAT.
Nothing else to say, he's the best. He knows what he talks about, the class is easy (study guide will really help you with the exams), and he also makes it interesting. And besides, he's really nice and likes to stay in contact with students. Amazing. Take at least one of his classes before you graduate.
Super easy class, great GPA booster. Prof. Freed also makes the lectures really interesting and engaging. He also has a good taste in movies, which is a primary aspect of this class. The work can be tedious at times but it's very easy work. 10/10 class, 10/10 professor, definitely worth taking
One of my favorite profs of all time! Very passionate about what he is teaching and makes sure he is presenting it in a way that everyone can understand. Overall an outstanding prof and course.
Prof. Andrew is definitely one of the best professors at Purdue. He cares so much about what he is teaching and it's truly hard to not want to go to his classes. Super fun class!
Prof. Freed is amazing. I had his eaps106 online and still liked everything. The lectures are very enjoyable, and the tests are all open-note. There is a moderate amount of work every week, but these are extremely easy. Prof. Freed is also a super nice person overall, as he hosts an online forum for students to discuss anything with him. GOAT
Most fun I've ever had in a class
This is the best course and professor to take if you are looking to get your science credit out of the way. I took the online version and never struggled once. Weekly work consist of two lectures with two simultaneous quizzes (answers are in the lectures) and only one hw at the begging of the week. Exams are straight from notes. 100% recommend.
Prof Freed is simply AMAZING. His lectures were super enjoyable, and it's clear he cares so much about teaching. This class was the easiest A, as long as you do your work and pay attention.
honestly one of the best professors you can have and the class was an easy A
Absolute GOAT! It's clear he loves what he teaches and he's really nice.
Not much more can be said about Professor Freed that hasn't already been said. He was the most engaging, entertaining professor I've ever had and his class was incredibly easy for a student doing the bare minimum to succeed in.
Took both 105 and 106, wish I could take it again for the first time.
The course is easy, with non-cumulative exams based on study guides and slides. Attending lectures is key, as it impacts your grade and extra credit; missing one forfeits extra credit but an A+ is still possible. Lectures are fun and engaging, showing the professor's passion for the subject and care for students' wellbeing and focus.
Prof Freed is amazing. He performs numerous experiments and plays clips of space movies during class to explain concepts and to keep students engaged. He is caring, funny, passionate, and clear in his instructions. Exams are online & open note, but not super easy; I'd say do the study guide, cntrl F to search terms & use ~multiple help sites~.
It's a very easy course and very entertaining. The GOAT.
Chill teacher, but beware of the many assignments if you are taking it online.
Professor Freed is genuinely one of the best professors I ever had. The tests are really easy if you pay attention to his lectures, which are really fun and engaging, and complete the study guides provided.
protect the GOAT at all costs
6/5 professor
One of the best professors at Purdue. Great class to get credit and an easy A. He's passionate and knowledgable about the material.
He knows that most people are taking this as a requirement, so might as well make it enjoyable, and so he does. Also gives good student and live advice. Great professor!
super nice and fun teacher, I took the DIS version and it was pretty easy just watch the lectures and take the quizzes and you'll get an A. I studied for about an hour before each exam and did well.
One of the best professors I've ever had
best prof ive had
GPA BOOST COURSE NGL. HE'S GOAT. all the quizzes, exam are on the internet. no lockdown browser
The OG, the GOAT, born with that dawg in him -- what can I say that others haven't already? I only wish I'd have had the chance to take his classes sooner. A true master of his craft; complex content is super accessible, and he cares deeply for his students. You've got to take at least one of 105/106 before you leave Purdue--you won't regret it!
fun demonstrations in class keep students engaged seems to genuinely care about his students keeps class fun understands that he is teaching a 100-level and assigns a very manageable amount of work
Andy is one of the only professors at Purdue in my experience that genuinely cares about his students. He puts a lot of effort into making his classes interesting and knowledgeable. Even if attendance wasn't graded, I would still show up to class. Highly recommend, 5 stars.
great lecture, very intereting
Super easy class, lectures are funny and light hearted. Dr. Freed loves what he does and knows that most people take 106 for fun. Would take again.
please take this bro. please.
very very easy to get an a in his class. you just need to show up. he keeps lectures really engaging.
Really enjoyed this class. Prof Freed clearly cares about his students and the lectures and both entertaining and interesting. Weekly homework assignments about what you are learning in class and three exams. Pay attention, do the study guides, have fun with the class and his demonstrations and you will do well. I will remember this class fondly.
I LOVE ANDREW FREED!!!! Awesome class and great TA's. He really understands and cares for his students. I 100% recommend anyone take his classes!!!!
Professor Freed is such a great professor and so passionate about what he does. His classes are very simple but interesting, especially for non-majors. I would 100% recommend taking both EAPS 105 and 106 for your science credits. Only work each week for EAPS 106 is one homework, movie worksheet, and 2 asynchronous quizzes.
He is a great professor, with lectures seemingly created by production teams. He is very knowledgeable and has lots of industry experience.
Only thing to say is that he's the GOAT
Bro is a chiller fr.
This class is absolutely amazing it's structured very well and the professor really cares about the content he's teaching. Overall great class and good gpa booster.
Very fun lectures and very caring of students in general. Starts every lecture with a PSA on resources around campus that help in different ways. Very caring and is not afraid to talk politics.
Can't say enough good stuff about this guy have taken 2 classes from him and everyone is fantastic he is very caring and the classes are very understandable. be sure to participate though because if you don't your grade will suffer but just do that and you'll be fine
Andrew is cool. It's an entertaining class. My only issue is that he's biased toward the democratic party and evolution, which he's free to believe. I didn't answer some of the quiz questions for conscience reasons, like stating that the earth is 4.7 billion years old. To his credit, he is gentle/subtle with it, but its still easy to see.
You need to try your absolute hardest to get a bad grade for this course. Never met the professor in person, but he's definitely popular among students.
DO THE WORK! + He's sweet
Andrew Freed is a likable professor, and you can tell he actually cares about his students in a way that actually matters. Just do the work and you will end with over an 100% in the class.
Easy credit if thats what you're looking for, especially for online. If you're looking for something more challenging, avoid this class. Freed is the goat tho, 5 stars.
Freed is an amazing professor, and the online version of EAPS 106 is a free A. As long as you are finishing the assignments, which can be done at the start of the semester, each week, then this class is a breeze.
Professor Freed truly enjoys what he teaches. A simple class for an easy A, but very interesting. I liked seeing the different natural disasters in movies that I would have not otherwise been exposed to. All exams are online without a lockdown browser, including the final. So it is a very fun elective.
Professor Freed clearly really cares about and loves what he teaches and it shows. I took this class as an elective in person and i'm glad I did. His lectures are engaging and interesting about a wide range of topics. This class is not meant to be difficult with online homework, quizzes, and tests, but is certainly very enjoyable.
Professor Freed is the best! He gives such fun lectures and truly cares about his student's success.
SO AWESOME AND KIND
He is an amazing professor and an even better person! I cannot rave about Prof. Freed enough. Whatever you do, PLEASE take his class. He has some of the most entertaining and engaging lectures and is so kind and caring to students.
Best lecturer I've ever had. He cares about what he teaches and his grading is super clear and straightforward.
The greatest lecturer in Purdue history. Purdue should not let him retire, he is too good. Lectures are exciting and he explains complex topics very well. There is a reason pretty much every Purdue student is recommended to take a class with him.
The goat. Lebron got nothing on him. He can have my children.
Very consistent class, follows the same schedule each week, interesting content.
he is the GOAT. He care about us and despite im taking this class for fun, He makes class so intresting and wish he has my professor for all of my classes.
EAPS 105 online could be the easiest SCI class at Purdue University, all we had was 30 questions to answer every Friday on Brightspace, but the quizzes weren't due until Sunday when Freed would send an email reminder. Procrastinator's Rule!!
Dr. Freed truly cares about all of his students and just wants everyone to succeed. I have never met a professor more passionate and caring about the subject he teaches. If you ever get the chance to take a class with him, please do. An amazing guy and an amazing class.
everything is online, graded through homework, and exams, as long as you fill out the study guide during the lecture you'll be good. His lectures are relatively interesting and you can tell her cares about what he's teaching.
homework and tests are all online through brightspace, very easy. no cumulative finals. you can tell he truly cares about his students
Graded off of homework and exams, the lectures are actually relatively interesting. As long as you fill out the study guide during the lectures you'll be good.
rating speaks for itself. goat status
GOAT Status Passionate about the subject and has amazing advice that he shares during the semester to his students
FREED WAS THE BEST!! not a science major, but took his class for a gen-ed requirement. genuinely loved going to lecture to learn about all things space and he explained stuff great, especially the history of space exploration. if you do the study guide while he lectures, the exams are so easy. Homework was so easy too, just a 20 question assignment
easiest course of my life
Super chill professor. Class is super easy! Only annoying this is you have to go to lectures as theres iclickers. You don't have to pay attention as nobody does during the lectures. Super chill guy who's passionate about what he teaches, just wished everyone would pay attention. Would take again!
He actually cares about his students! The class as a whole is easy but I enjoyed it. The movie selection was very nice as well.
Professor Freed was FANTASTIC! His lectures are engaging & fascinating. EAPS 106 was pretty easy and low-effort with homework but I also learned a ton.
Easy A class, and enough extra credit, many announcement and email to remind you to remember the deadline. Patience!
Amazing professor who you can tell cares deeply about his students and the course. I took it online, so the bulk of my grade was asynchronous quizzes and homework assignments that I was genuinely interested in. Super chill guy who always finds a way to make his course engaging, no wonder he's won so many awards!
Professor Freed is amazing, YOU MUST TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. The class is so easy. You earn a ton of extra credit at the end of the semester, if you do all your assignments on time throughout the semester.
Freed is a great professor who genuinely cares about his students. During the lectures, if you pay attention and fill out the corresponding study guide, you'll get an A. Take one of his classes if you can.
Lectures are really enjoyable but kinda long. Other than that this class is very easy and professor freed is goat.
WE LOVE ANDREW FREED
I found this course super interesting and very easy. Students are provided with a study guide for each exam that you are permitted to use on the exam (and it is literally the same questions just in a different order). As long as you are engaged during the lecture and take notes, this class is an easy A.
