He is a fairly easy teacher. He lets you use both sides of a 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper for the tests. However, he never explains anything clearly in class. Always have to go to his office hours. He is more helpful there.

Dr. Harrington's a nice guy, at time's he's too smart though; sometimes he doesn't really understand how someone can't understand a basic concept. However he's very willing to help outside the class, and the classworks and tests are straightforward.

Dr. Harrington is an extremely knowledgeable profesor. He has an extensive teaching background and it is a privelage to be taught by him. He is very willing to help outside of class and his tests are straightforward. He will challenge you,so dont be lazy

Dr. Harrington is a great teacher! Really, she loves when you speak up in class. Try to do the reading as much as possible and don't be afraid to answer her questions or comment. She is very kind and has your best interest in mind. Take her!

She is a really sweet lady, pure and simple. BUT she can be sort of..well...absent minded. Lost two of my papers...had to prove she graded and handed back to me. Keep your work! Great lectures though, you can learn a lot from her without even trying.

The class is a basic core cakewalk, and the man is obviously very knowledgeable. My only annoyance would be in the fact that he obviously gets off on his "superior" intellect. I say, go for it.

I am almost a straight A student, but this man was so horrid that I had to drop his course! Very nice, but boy, he should NOT be allowed teach Intro level courses! This is the worst class I have taken!

Although the material is relatively easy, and as long as you do the HW you're fine, his teaching style is atrocious. He has these power-point lectures that someone else made which he recites off of. Knowledgeable, but gets annoyed if you don't understand.

Very easy class and material is relatively easy to grasp...it reminded me a lot of I.Q. tests. Lets you use 2-sided cheat sheet on exams and a 4-sided one for final. Prof is very easy-going and gets chalk all over his clothes and face--its kinda cute=)

If you get what he's talking about, he's easy. Some things took until after the test to understand tho. Gives huge points as long as you try. I got a C and a D on the tests, but ended up with a B+ for the class. DO THE HW, it helps a ton!!!!!

He reminds everyone of the colorful scientist in "Independence Day" at Area 51. Except this teacher is taller, weak on the arms, but shorter hair still in a pony tail. He's approachable on help since you can't easily understand all the material

This class is easy, with minimal effort. The only reason I come to class is to inwardly snicker as he smudges chalk all over the dark sweaters he wears. He puts the lecture notes online. And he sports a silver ponytail with style.

My worst class this semester. He can't teach. Every time I come to class, it seems pointless because all the notes are online, and I don't understand what he's talking about anyways; his lectures sound like gibberish to me. Easy grader on the exams, though.

First of all i HATE programming and somehow i surrvived this class. Dr. Harrington is more then willing to spend all day helping you out. Is is a very tough class, especially if you have no prior experience with programming. He's a pretty good teacher

The professor and the work aren't too bad, but WATCH OUT FOR THE GRADING SCALE! Since the new minus system, it now takes a 96-100 percent to get an A in her classes. And she's stingy on giving A's on papers and exams. I'm a 4.0 student and the best I ever earned on these was an A-.

I struggled with this course. Dr. Harrington helped me through it and took lots of time and paid a lot of attention to me. He is very helpful if you seek him out and attend class every day. His notes are online, which is helpful, so you can go back and re-read if need be. I would recommend it.

amazing- pay attention to lectures, study for maybe an hour or two for tests and you should have no problem getting an A. one presentation, a couple of VERY EASY papers and 3 quizes. there are also visits to the art inst., an asian resturaunt of ur choice, and you can see speakers for lots of e.c.

this class needs a pre requisit. It was way to hard and i was lost the whole semester. I understood nothing, and i got nothing out of this class. Dr. Harrington on the other hand, was very willing to help. He does need to understand that not all of us understand computer lingo and he needs to speak in english when you come for help.

For the class, just read the book and materials. You won't get much out of her lectures except a few dry bullet points from the readings. She's really nice, but her class feels too much like freshman year of high school at times.

This class can be described in one simple word: worthless.It reminds me of an 8th grade History class taught by a Math teacher.The lecture is very unorganized, slow, and full of mistakes.On papers, she grades not on content, format, or grammar but trivial word usage not to her liking.For the sake of your intellectual well-being,don't sign up.

YUCK!!! take someone else if you can. Not a hard class but you definitely do not know what is going on in the class. TA's are very helpful but unfortunately they left university:(. But, if you have no choice and you REALLY struggle and teach ourself you can end up with B.

Geeky, but in an endearing manner. Very amiable and willing to help. I already understood a lot of computer stuff, so it might be harder otherwise. But if you're already computer savvy, definitely take one of his classes.

She is a very sweet lady. Her class can be very dry and boring at times, but she often shows some interesting movies and pictures. The books she assigns in 391 are not that bad. She gives study guides for her quizzes and is a very fair grader for tests and papers.

horrendous!! the man does NOT teach. he writes boring tutorials that you have to suffer through. Then when he tries to explain something he's so jittery and talks so fast and unclearly that it makes you want to die on the inside. I think putting your head in plastic bag and suffocating yourself would be more educational.

Oh man. This class was quite tough. For one thing, he speaks so fast and stutters from time to time when he lectures, and you wouldn't be able to pick up anything if you tried. His in-class tutorials are quite boring too. Because of that, my interest waned mid-semester....I don't know how the heck I passed.

You don't need to open a book as long as you attend lectures and take thorough notes. 3 quizzes and 3 papers total. Quizzes are essay. If you regurgitate the notes on quizzes, you'll get an A. If you use a lot of sources for your paper, you'll get an A. She's sweet and helpful. Only bad thing is the grading scale. A 96 is an A and a 93 is an A-.

Awesome lady. She's very nice and gives study guides for all of the tests. Papers are easy and she shows videos that are pretty interesting. I'm taking her again next semester.

He tries hard to explain things well, but he is not very good at it. He wrote his own "tutorial" to use in the class, but the tutorial is very unclear and hard to follow. Frequently, I find myself backtracking (multiple times) to try to understand what he has written. The layout is tough as well, he needs to focus more on loops and the hard stuff

Algorithms is probably the hardest comp class at LUC. The book is not very good. The class is kind of boring and I wish it was more than just once a week so i didn't have to sit though 2.5 hours at once. He's very nice and confusing sometimes. He teaches like you should know what hes talking about already, when u dont. But hes very smart. keep up

After reading his ratings I was scared to take him, but this is def my favorite class this semester. He's an awesome teacher and really willing to help. (I'm a computer science minor). If u don't like programming don't take this class but if u like this stuff I would def recommend him! and the tutorial is very easy to follow and u dont need a txt!

Learning by tutorial instead of a dry book is great. He can be very unclear at times, but the material is not that hard as long as you go along with the tutorial.

This class is absolutely terrible, do not take it unless you are 100% sure you want to major in computer science. He explains things too fast, we have pointless exams on material nobody knows, and he is overall a rude teacher, often laughing at students questions. Avoid this class!

This is a great class if you are interested in learning programming. It can be a bit time consuming. Prof Harrington does take the time to explain any issues, if you ask him to. Also he has a tutorial so you don't have to spend money on a book. He is very helpful and can be flexible, you just need to talk to him. He is very knowledgeable.

I really don't understand the recent negative ratings. Prior to this class, I had zero experience with programming. I thought this was a great intro to programming class and it made me decide I want to major in Computer Science. Professor Harrington is a great teacher. I didn't always go to class, missed a few assignments, but still got an A.

I got an A in this class with no programming background. Dr. Harrington is a good teacher, if you read the chapters and do hw. There is a reason you only go up to chapter 5 over the whole semester. He holds everyones hand the entire way, if you seek him out. Don't expect an A if you are not willing to work. If you want an easy A, take pottery.

He is not helpful at all. His lectures are dry and boring. He acts like you are dumb when you act questions and does not even answer your questions when asked. I'm a computer science major and will do everything I can to avoid him in the future.

One of the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Doesn't care about the students, is the definition of unhelpful and unclear and is an all around pain. Avoid him at all costs. I'm unsure how he even qualifies to teach at Loyola. I had an interest in computer science prior to this class and now never want to touch the subject again.

The smartest professor at Loyola. Take him if you really want to learn programming. He is always fast at responding to questions outside of class and is willing to help anyone who asks for it. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take him because he really makes you earn them

The class is a "flipped course" meaning you watch the lectures online and do the hw in class. Attendance nor due dates mean nothing so I slacked off to the point of no return. He was great though, obviously knows what he's talking about. gave me tons of extensions.

Dr Harrington is a really smart guy and knows what he is talking about. If you are not good at teaching yourself do not take this class with him!! When you ask him questions in class his help is difficult to understand. You have to teach yourself everything. If you stay up to date on your readings and assignments you should be okay.

This is single handedly the worst professor at Loyola and doesn't care about his students. He doesn't respond to emails and will treat you like you're stupid if you don't understand a concept. Avoid him if you can. Seriously he is awful, don't know how or why he became a professor if he hates students

He is a really bad teacher. Doesn't spend time revising his 8-year old lecture slides, doesn't teach in class and is extremely garrulous. Ask him a question and he will spend 10 minutes pontificating. One annoying/creepy qualities is he doesn't respect your personal space. He stands uncomfortably close to you and speaks very close to your face

This was a "teach yourself" kind of class so if you aren't motivated, find another teacher. When he actually was in class (it was mostly online through Zoom), he only confused me more so I avoided asking him questions. My partner and I pretty much relied on the tutors the whole semester which worked out well. Just be ready to work hard for an A.

You do have to be self-motivated if you want to keep up with the course load/get a decent grade and his style of lectures can be pretty confusing at times. BUT, he does know python pretty well so just be specific with your questions. I struggled with the workload at one point but he really helped me catch up and understand the material.

He might have been a good student at one point in his academic career, but the man's an idiot. Took a much harder CS course at Northwestern and got a better grade. It's the other way around, he's the annoying one. I don't understand how Python is "stupid", it does what it tells it to.

Dr. Harrington is clearly well versed in this field, though this does not translate to his teaching. He is a very tough grader with his exams and he makes them very difficulty given the allotted time. His lectures are very long information dumps and require that you are incredibly fast at writing down notes. Passable class but don't expect an A.

Dr. Harrington is a smart programmer, but an extremely poor professor. His Algorithms course is designed to be extremely difficult to pass. It is possible to lose points (-0.5/0.5, rather than 0/0.5) on homework assignments. Exams and quizzes comprise 75% of the semester grade and you'll rarely have enough time to comfortably finish them. Avoid.

If you're not concerned about your letter grade for a scholarship and you need an elective, take this class. If you have a grade-dependent scholarship, DO NOT TAKE. It is DIFFICULT, especially working with other classes and internships. He is VERY helpful, but if you have a busy schedule and can't attend his office hours for help, DROP THE COURSE.

He's not the nicest guy around. Even if you get an 'A', you're not going to be a novice programmer at this level. He doesn't make the material very pallatable. I got the intuition a little wrong but I put in the effort-he chose to give me a bad grade.
