He's an amzing teacher!
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Mormon history--lots of cool stories and anecdotes. Encouraged students to think about the subject, not just regurgitate answers. I plan on taking hime again.
I loved this Class! He is an amazing teacher. The test arent too hard as long as you go to class and pay attention. I really enjoyed this class, and would take another class from him.
His class is fairly easy if you take good notes and study for tests. Everything is very straightforward - no trick test questions. His lectures are interesting and very rewarding - you learn a lot in his class. Also very caring about how well his students do. Awesome teacher!
Wonderful lectures. Made sure we all understood that this was a 'no stress' class. Finally a religion teacher who realizes its only 2 credit hours!
I loved this teacher, I am planning on taking his other class. His lectures are very interesting, his test study guides are basically the test, and he knows a ton. Very helpful and friendly, low stress class. I HIGHLY recommend!!!!!
Perfect religion class - easy, but you still learn a lot. He's definitely not one of those religion teachers who's out to prove that religion is a serious subject. Very warm and obviously cares about his students. Teaches straight from the scriptures. To get an A, take good notes (or tape classes) and write the paper.
If you are looking for an easy class, want to feel the spirit a little, and have a nice teacher this is the class. If you are looking for easy but extremely interesting this is not the class for you. You don't learn much. He is the nicest guy I think that I have ever met.
He is amazing. His class is so interesting- you can't help but listen to his lectures. He tells very interesting facts about early church history, not just the feel good Sunday School stories. Minimal effort studying for tests and you'll ace them- he knows that this is a 2 credit course. Really cares about students too, nice, brilliant man.
Great class! You don't have to buy a textbook, you just bring your Book of Mormon. He is very instresting and I learned a lot just by going to lectures. Go to class and you will do good on the tests, and you will learn a lot about D and C
Bro. Hedges is fantastic for all the reasons everyone else said. One day I spoke in class (for the first time a few weeks into the semester) and he called on me by name! I was very impressed to realize that he had actually memorized everyone's name in the class--whether they participated or not. :)
Bro Hedges was great. His class was really easy and fun. Very friendly and interesting.
This will be my third time taking one of his courses because he is the only REL professor I've had who understands what 2 credit classes should be. Way helpful, super smart, and you learn a ton w/o any stupid journals, reading logs, etc. One quiz, three tests, one paper. Pay attention, you'll get an A.
Bro. Hedges is the best religion teacher I've ever had. He is always willing to answer any question and makes it easy to ask any question without you feeling uncomfortable. He'll do anything to help you and it's quite possible to get 100% on the tests if you learn the stuff, which is easy because he actually teaches it! Take any class from him!
One of the easiest classes I have taken. If you are a history major, you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that the research paper does not even require a thesis. It was the easiest research paper I've ever written. I was disappointed that I didn't get 100% on the tests - there was always a sneaky question that got me. Take this class.
One of the smartest religion teachers out there. His class was way interesting, and it did not require loads of work like other religion classes. He keeps things interesting and the tests go right along with lecture.
Easiest class i have ever taken. He is smart and super laid back. He gives you everything you need to know for the tests. He is a very nice guy and is flexible. Tests are easy (took me 15 min). A nonstressful interesting and fun class. Guaranteed A!
AMAZING class, I learned a ton. And Prof. Hedges is great. He's very helpful, very chill, and he knows his stuff. I'm taking another class from him next semester. He's way good, and the class is really interesting. Easy tests, just pay attn in class and take detailed notes.
Great teacher; learned a lot! His class is very reasonable, if you simply go to class and take good notes. Grade is made up of three tests, a final, and a term paper. I would definitely recommend him.
Hedges really is great. Lectures are so interesting! He is willing to take interesting/important tangents. We had 1 quiz, 2 tests + final, and 1 5pg paper. For the tests know names, section numbers + "titles" and general info. The tests were harder than I expected from ratings here, but they weren't bad. He says he grades easy on the paper.
Very knowledgable of subject matter. excellent instructor. assignments are fairly graded and not too hard. knows what a 2hr class should be.
He was extremely helpful. He will gladly sit down with you and review everything you need to know for a test or proof read your papers. Really nice guy. Lectures are interesting and involve the class. Attendance is not mandatory however. One paper makes up all the homework in the class and everyone who does it does well on it.
I really enjoyed this class. The proff is laid back and clear in what he wants you to know. if you have any problems he is really good at getting back with you through email. i had only one paper assignment and aced it. He is also willing to go over the exams with students on an individual baisis. really really good class
I loved Hedges and his class. His class is great if you attend. I liked his lectures and his tests are almost a guaranteed "A" There is one five page paper, but if you turn it in on time with the required length and sources and you get a 100. I enjoyed the subject matter and Hedges is knowledge and respectful of students. Great guy, great class.
Bro. Hedges is probably one of the best teachers. You learn a lot while the class not being ridiculously hard. As long as you go to class (and you'll want to-it's that good) and take notes, you'll do fine! just make sure you go to class...it will make or break your grade
Tests involve memorizing facts from lecture. Lectures are good.
Brother Hedges is awesome! Very kind and helpful. Paper was 5 pages, but graded extremely generously. Final was hard, but other tests were much easier. Lectures were very interesting. Loved this Prof. Highly recommended.
Bro. Hedges is an awesome teacher. His lectures were interesting... take lots of notes because he tests on what is said in class. He is really helpful in preparing for test. Great class, I recommend it!
Everything on the test is straight from the notes! His class is a lot of fun, and you learn a lot too!
Hedges is my favorite religion professor EVER. Took him for the second half of D&C and Church History 341, and loved both classes. CH 341 was one of the best courses I have ever taken. He tests mostly on lectures, which is good, because the lectures are engaging and interesting. He is on the students' side, and is very helpful. Final is hard. Study
Class was OK...Only take this class if you are good at memorizing facts! the tests were 90% matching and true/false about dates, people, and section numbers. Also a 5 page paper, but that was easy. i wrote it day before it was due and got 100%
I think people feel bad giving poor ratings to religion professors. I don't have a problem with it, however. This class was incredibly boring. Hedges boasted about having the lowest average GPA of all the D&C sections (this is true by the way). If you want an A, don't take this class. I got 90s on all the tests and got a B- in the class.
Outstanding teacher!! I can be critical with religion professors but he's the best I've had so far. I learned so much about the D&C and church history and he also has a great talent of teaching with the Spirit. He's very humble but so knowledgeable about his topic. It really isn't hard to get an A if you come to class and take notes.
awesome professor...I took 3 different classes from him and learned a ton.
Incredible teacher! He bends over backwards to help his students. He is soft and kind, and he is humble and respectful to his students. If he does not know the answer, he admits it. He made the information fun and interesting, and I always stayed awake during lecture even though it was a night class. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
He's awesome!
This is a guy who cares about his students! There are papers to write but it is a given 100% so long as you do them. The tests take some studying becuase of the amount of material but a class I would recommend! He is a great professor
Professor Hedges is awesome! He really cares about the students; he even learned all of our names. He's really interesting to listen to and creates a comfortable environment in the class. Tests are pretty easy, based almost entirely on lecture. Great guy!
Bro. Hedges is really an awesome teacher. He isn't afraid to get down to some really hard issues, and he is always willing to help you with anything. Teaches with a focus on the gospel and doesn't give you an unreasonable workload. Tests can be a little tough, but if you go to class, you'll do fine.
Professor Hedges is an amazing professor!!! He teaches strait from the Book of Mormon and backs the book with facts rather than opinions. His tests are a little tricky, but not terribly difficult. I found his class very enlightening and spiritual.
Brother Hedges is the best! He is such an incredibly kind and humble man and he knows a lot! Take good notes in lectures and tests are easy!
This class was awesome!! Bro. Hedges is a great teacher who just wants his students to grow spiritually and understand the BoM better. There are 2 short papers that you get full credit for if you do them, and then a midterm and a final. It is a very stress-free class and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Dr. Hedges was a really good professor who brought the spirit into the room. Although, his tests were a little on the difficult side. He tests you only over material in class, but doesn't allow you to take open scripture tests. This makes his tests somewhat hard because if you didn't write down the exact right things, you are out of luck.
Bro. Hedges is AMAZING! I'm planning on taking many more classes from him. He lead spiritually and intellectually engaging class discussions. We didn't get through all of the BoM, but it was worth it. This was his first time teaching the BoM and as a church history teacher he had a fascinating perspective. 2 papers & 2 exams. Good notes=Good grade.
Brother Hedges is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He always brings the spirit into the class and has such interesting insights. I really hope to take more classes from him. My testimony grew so much while in his class. If you go to class and take good notes, you'll do fine. I loved his teaching style! Thanks for everything :)
This is the second class I've taken from Bro. Hedges, and I was not disappointed. He teaches by the spirit and is always willing to answer questions. He understands you have other classes and does not demand alot of your time. While he doesn't require class attendance, his tests come straight from lectures. So don't miss class and take good notes.
The best religion teacher at BYU by far. The nicest guy there is and he is extremely helpful. He understands that other classes take up a lot of time so it is a class you can get an easy A in if you just show up and take notes. Great Class!
Hedges is great. This is the most interesting class on the church I have taken. He's a way nice guy. Course is easy, 2 two-page papers and a map quiz and 2 midterms and a final. Reading is optional. One plus is that he looks like President Eying. He also takes time to learn everyone's name. Tests are a lot of specific memorization, not bad at all.
Great teacher! The tests and assignments were fair. He's a great lecturer, so I really enjoyed listening to him tell church history stories. I could remember what we had talked about so that I only referenced notes for dates, etc.
Way awesome teacher! I loved every second of it. My only complaint is that he doesn't teach more classes!
I loved Brother Hedges! This is how every religion class should be!He teaches very well! He teaches doctrine, but when it comes to stuff we really don't know about, he teaches not just what he thinks, but what other theories are (like where Zarahemla is).2 papers where if you write them you get an A, midterm and final.Go to class take notes get an A
AMAZING TEACHER!!! Looked forward to his classes every week! Why isn't he teaching more??? He is such a laid back guy yet maintains a certain reverence towards the subject that it feels like home whenever in his class. I'm taking his Church History class in the fall and am stoked! He doesn't require a lot of work, just go to lectures, pay attention
Amazing man! I took him based off of people's comments on the website and it was well worth it! It was seriously my favorite class. He is totally lenient and awesome. I'm taking Church History Part 2 from him in the fall.
Great professor! I found his lectures to be very interesting and engaging. He doesn't try to trick you or anything on th tests, which I always like. He gives out very helpful review sheets before each test and he doesn't grade the papers hard. If you go to class and take good notes then you'll get an A!
Ok, so Hedges has been the best proffer I've ever got here at the Y! Absolutely fab! Take any class that you want from this man and you should learn loads and have blast while you're at it! Everyone I know has loved his classes! Honestly, best teacher at Brigham Young right here! Tests are not hard as long as you go to class and take some notes.
Hedges is da' bomb! I'm teliing you, if you are thinking A-Dog (Andy) for a class think no more and add the man! You will not be dissapointed! Best teacher I've ever had, that's for sure! One of the only teachers that you may have that will know your name and who you are and interested in talking with you about whatever after class! Great Man Andy!
Absolutely fabulous teacher! I can't say enough good things about him. He knows so much, knows how to transmit that knowledge, and keeps it incredibly interesting no matter what he is talking about. Grades and tests are extremely fair. Will definitely take more classes from him!
Best teacher I have had at BYU. I took BoM (2nd half) from him last Winter; just finished up Ch. History with him. BOTH classes were absolutely fantastic. I have never been able to retain so much knowledge from any other class. And he teaches it so WELL that it is so interesting. Just go to class and study from the lectures. Wants you to succeed.
Awesome Professor! His class provided exactly what I wanted: A nice spiritual uplift, virtually no homework, and an easy A. He is remarkably humble and knowledgeable. Encourages class discussion and invites the Spirit very well! Take one of his classes if you can!
The best teacher ever! He cares so much about his students and the gospel and he doesn't present his opinion as the only right answer. He is extremely humble and extremely knowledgeable. Not too much work. You write two papers (2 pages each) that you get credit just for doing and you have 2 midterms and a final. Go to class, take notes, get an A.
Bro Hedges is a great teacher. He did a good job of bringing in the spirit, included the class in the discussion, and taught very interesting points on the BoM without any busy work. Because their was no textbook you had to go to learn what was going to be tested on the exams. If he taught the second half of the BoM I would take him again. A+++
Great class. i like the way that Bro. Hedges distinguishes between commonly held opinion and true doctrine. He is careful to say only what is true. If he gives an opinion he specifically prefaces it. I really enjoyed this class. I would be more than willing to take any class from him. One of the best religion classes, and the tests are easy.
Bro Hedges is amazing. He has so much knowledge stored in his head and when he shares it with us it is so simple to understand. I took the first half of B.O.M and got an average of 96 on the tests with barely any study b/c i retain everything he teaches.
Hedges is awesome, and this is not coming from one of those weird Peter Priesthood types. He makes Church History interesting and doesn't sugar coat it. He tells it how it was. One paper, and a map quiz. Reading is not mandatory, and you the tests consist of names and dates. An hour with flash cards and you got an A. Sister Black who . . .
AWESOME! teaches the bom class like you actually learned something on your mission, ie, doesn't insult your intelligent by teaching seminary lessons. he shows insights into bom scholars' research and points where critics get hung up on details in the bom, particularly very difficult problems to resolve. Fun to take if you're a bible geek. nicest gu
If you want a class with lighthearted lectures and difficult tests that cover topics not discussed in class then take this class
I really liked him as a teacher! He tried really hard to answer our questions with actual facts. My testimony was really strengthened. I was rarely bored and loved coming to class. It's a class you can't skip because what you read is not what is on the test. He was quick to respond to emailed questions.
Great guy really nice teacher and the class was not bad but man his tests were hard especially his final. I will admit I was not the most prepared but geeze his final was one of the hardest test I have taken at BYU. This class made me hate religion classes at BYU a lot of knowledge & no spiritual growth. I would find another teacher if I were you.
Best religion professor at BYU. He's so helpful, and spends a lot of time discussing the more "controversial" parts of Joseph Smith's history. Extremely knowledgeable and Christ-like, he's awesome. The exams are a little difficult, but if you use his office hours, getting an A or A- isn't too tough.
One of the best religion professors out there! This was my favorite religion course I've taken thus far! You will enjoy every second of this class and you will do well! As long as you listen and take notes you'll be golden. Professor Hedges is super helpful too!
Great lecturer, he just starts talking without notes or slides! There's a lot of reading, but it's all extra nice-to-know stuff, so go to class EVERY TIME and take notes or you'll fail the exams. However, I had taken D&C already so this class was easy. Takes lots of time on controversial stuff in Church History. Enlightening, easy class.
I took REL C 342 my first semester at BYU and I LOVE Professor Hedges! He doesn't use powerpoints or anything, so you are responsible for coming to class and taking notes, but he's so funny and knowledgeable. Will definitely be looking for classes to take from him in the future.
Brother Hedges wants the students to succeed. He really cares about the topic and is SO knowledgable about it. The class was easy and interesting... the best of both worlds!
I learned so much from Hedges. His lectures are very interesting and he knows a lot about church history. Go to class and review the study guide and you'll ace the tests. There are a few readings, but you have the entire semester to do them. He is very laid back and only requires one easy 5 page paper.
One of the best religion professors I have had. He is clear in his lecturers and is easy to follow. His teachings are all based on primary sources and proven facts. Go to class, pay attention, take good notes and you will learn incredible amount and wont want to stop learning. Tests reflect exactly what he teaches in class. HIGHLY recommended!
Brother Hedges is an amazing teacher! I loved this class so much and would take it again in a heartbeat. I'm going to take more classes from Bro Hedges including the next class Rel 342. It is an easy class but you learn so much and will feel such a stronger understanding and appreciation for the early saints. Highly recommend Bro Hedges
Brother Hedges is by far the best professor I have had at BYU. He knows the history of the Church forwards and backwards and is willing to discuss the tougher subjects in class or after during his office hours. His tests are fact based and come straight from lecture so make sure to take detailed notes. He really wants everyone to succeed.
Wow I have never been in a class where I was clinging on to every word the professor was saying It was awesome to just bask in the amazingness of the lectures you have daily quizzes based on the reading but he tells you what you need to look for in the reading in order to do well He teaches you and then he tests you on what he teaches, a rare trait
By far best teacher at BYU. So sweet and caring. He got really sick and was out for a couple weeks, and you could tell how hard it was for him to be away from class. He loves what he teaches and makes it simple to understand. Go to class and do the reading, you have a weekly quiz in class of 3 questions, normally multiple choice. Overall easy class
As someone who is not a fan of BYU religion courses, I absolutely loved brother Hedges' class. He cares about the students and the material. My favorite thing about brother Hedges was his transperency about church histroy, something that I find very refreshing. I will definitely be taking classes from him again.
Best teacher at BYU! Offers a lot of extra credit. Extremely personable. Looks like President Eyring :) He himself says his class is designed to be easy. If history interests you then this is the class for you. He loves history and his lectures naturally draw you into the topic. Extremely easy grader. Highly recommend
Willing to discuss hard and sensitive topics. Creates atmosphere where you can ask any question, and he really encourages questions so we can get better understanding. He really helped strengthen my testimony of Joseph Smith and the restoration. Easy grader. Class has lots of interesting material. Has a deep understanding of early church history.
This was my third Church History class at BYU, and thanks to Bro. Hedges, it was my favorite. Such a knowledgeable, engaging lecturer, one of the nicest guys you'll meet, and extremely helpful. Very skilled at handling tough topics in Church History. The class is very manageable & stress-free. If you need a religion credit, take this class.
I didn't do as well as I hoped, but even still I have no reservation saying this class was like a 6/5 content wise. It was so amazing to learn from one of the lead historians on the JS papers. Super humble teacher that can answer just about any question openly and honestly about JS. Really helped my testimony of JS grow. Hard but totally worth it!
This guy is absolutely fantastic. I took his Joseph Smith class and Pioneer class and I considered it an honor and a privilege to attend. Seriously the guy is easily my favorite religion professor ever. He knows church history extremely well and his lectures were super interesting, and I loved the class! Do yourself a favor and take his classes!!!!
I love Brother Hedges! This is honestly my favorite religion class I've taken. He has weekly reading quizzes but as long as you did the reading and come to class you'll be fine. His tests are heavily lecture based so you need to come to class. He does require a term paper but he's a pretty lenient grader. Definitely would take him again!
Honestly my favorite class ever! I wish I wasn't graduating so that I could take another class from him! Quizzes each week, but do the reading and you will be fine. Tests are easy, just study your notes from lecture. Research paper does take some time, but he is a super easy grader. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
I loved Professor Hedges. He is by far the best lecturer I've come across at BYU. He just stands in front of the class and tells the information as if he's telling a story. He always makes sure you know the information though. He's good at answering difficult questions and really cares about each of his students! TAKE THIS CLASS!
Brother Hedges is one of the most kind and genuine people I have ever met. His lectures are so interesting, and he never uses powerpoint so you do have to go to class. If you pay attention you will do well. He answers tough questions honestly and is super smart. I wish I wasn't graduating so I could take another class from him!
Brother Hedges is possibly the best religion teacher I've had so far. He is real, honest, spiritual, and knows so much! He is so nice and will meet with you to discuss any of your questions. You need to pay attention in class, since that's where he gets all his test questions. His tests are straightforward.
Okay--I honestly hate taking religion courses because I feel they are subjective, graded way too heavy for 2 credit hour, blazay blazay. BUT--Professor Hedges is literally the ONLY religion professor I have loved. Not only does he care bout his students, but he gives you the facts, opinions, and lets you know which is which. Take him, and only him.
I have absolutely loved Prof. Hedges' class. He has an astounding knowledge of the scriptures and is awesome at explaining difficult concepts. His lectures are awesome. The class is very easy to pass as long as you take good notes. He cares much more about your spiritual growth than a syllabus and it shows.
Good lectures, caring instructors, inspiring papers, and INFERNAL TESTS.
This turned out to be the hardest history class I have ever taken. You have to become an expert on the D&C to pass his ridiculous tests. If you miss even one class, you are in big trouble. Make sure you take the class with a friend who takes good notes. I definitely recommend taking it from Dorius or Brooks, it will save you so much time and effort
Professor Hedges is a VERY GOOD instructor. Yes, it's important to attend class (duh! this isn't an online class). Theres nothing on the test that isnt covered in class. Homework is minimal and can be done at an easy pace. If you don't understand something, Prof. Hedges will do anything to help. Anyone with a negative review simply didnt try.
This is the perfect religion class! I learned a lot, but it wasn't very much work. Almost no readings (besides continuing your personal reading of the Book of Mormon) and very fair tests. He loves the Book of Mormon and has many interesting academic and spiritual insights. He really cares about his students and how they're doing in the class.
He has been my fav religion prof. so far. Very knowledgable about many aspects of Church history. You need to go to class everyday if you want an A, as the exams are almost explicitly from his lectures. 2 midterms (20% ea.), final (30%), 2 papers (9% ea., pretty sure he always gives 100% if you do it), reading (10%, self reported), class eval (2%).
I loved taking a church history class from a professor with such clear and realistic expectations. Getting a good grade wasn't a matter of guesswork. It was a matter of putting in a consistent 2 or 3 hours a week on reading and studying for tests. The term paper was also a good assignment, and not too hard. I highly recommend Dr. Hedges.
Brother Hedges is amazing. I was excited to take this class in general, but he made it my favorite class I've taken at BYU. The textbook can just be found for free on the church website.
The workload is fairly light. He gives one three-point quiz per week on the reading, and an easy term paper (you get 100% if you meet the page requirement). THe quizes and the midterm/final are easy if you fill out the study guide he gives you. All of his lectures were super funny and interesting. TAKE THE CLASS FROM HIM!
I absolutely LOVED this class, but the difficulty of the tests was a little crazy... Too tricky of questions for a religion class in my opinion. But Dr. Hedges is incredible.
Dr. Hedges is an expert at what he does. Take his class! I was skeptical about taking a class about church history, it sounded boring. He delved into important topics like polygamy and took the time to answer everyone's questions. The only weekly homework is reading the one chapter in the free textbook.
This has been my favorite class taken at BYU!! Take his pioneers class if you can!!! Its so interesting you you learn so much. Brother Hedges is AWESOME and cares a lot about his students (he gives you all the resources to do well). I laughed at whoever said his tests were super hard- your tested exactly on the class lecture
Prof. Hedges has been one of my FAVORITE religion teachers at BYU. He cares more about the Spirit being in class than he does about testing hard - if you go to class and write down notes, you will pass the test with flying colors. He made pioneer history seem so interesting, and had very little work in his class, making you really learn the lessons
Sorry but his class is incredibly boring. No visuals, just writing on the chalkboard every so often. Tests were ridiculously hard and pointless. How is memorizing a bunch of random names helping me increase my faith in the Savior and in the Restoration? I studied hard and still got screwed by this class. If you can't memorize well, don't take.
This is one of my favorite classes I have ever taken at BYU and it is certainly because of him. He is such a kind and gentle soul that works so well with you. Seriously if you just talk to him, he sees the difference between enforcing arbitrary rules about grades and working to your individual situation. He teaches with the Spirit.
Brother Hedges is a great man. I respect him so much. His class felt more like a history class than a religion class, which I found super interesting. I loved going to his class, even though I feel like I could've gotten notes from someone else. Class includes weekly reading quizzes, a couple of papers, and three tests. Pretty easy, and I loved it.
I never leave reviews for professors, but this is my favorite religion professor I have ever taken a class from. He cares much more about building testimonies and learning than he does about grading harshly. Take this class!
Tests are ridiculous for a religion class, especially the final. All memorization of dates and names and the questions are purposefully worded to mess you up. Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy religion class to boost your GPA, it will do the opposite. Lectures are all on the chalkboard, with half the material being irrelevant.
Don't get me wrong, he is a great lecturer and really works to help you build your testimony, but his tests are wack. The tests are supposedly based on what's taught in class, but there are so many things we NEVER talk about that show up on the test! Audit the class if you want to build your testimony, but if you're doing this for a grade, DON'T GO
Professor Hedges is a nice guy. but for the love of God take a different Religion class. This class was easy to follow reading and lecture wise, his tests are insanely hard, requiring you to memorize unbelievable amounts of information, and you'll get tripped on tricky wording intentionally. It's a religion class, it shound't be this difficult.
I love professor Hedges! This was by far my favorite religion class that I have taken in my 3 years at BYU. His class is taught like a history class. There isn't much homework. The tests were kind of hard, and his study guides weren't as helpful as they could have been. Overall I really liked the class and found it super interesting
Easy class. No busy work/pointless assignments. Just 2 papers and 2 exams the whole year. I love the content of the course and I engaged with what is taught. The professor has an apostle-like voice and sometimes I can get sleepy. But, overall, an easy, yet informative class.
There is not another religion professor that teaches like Dr. Hedges. He doesn't rely on PowerPoints, but instead tells the story of church history in a narrative form, one that is easy to take notes on. Aside from the tests, most of the points in the class come from just completing the assignments. The tests are multiple choice and are easy.
Dr. Hedges clearly knows a lot about the subject, but is very clear in separating his personal opinions and views from the Church's position. There's out of class reading to do, and his lectures go along to perfectly cover all the material you need to know.
I loved having Professor Hedges!! He just sits and lectures with no slides but is extremely interesting. I feel like that helps with notes because we just write what we hear. He is friendly, humble, and clearly knows his stuff. He also has a great perspective.
Take this professor! He is very kind and works with you on things. The quizzes are easy if you do the reading, and the reading isn't bad. Pay attention in class and take good notes, and you'll have no problem with the exam! His lectures are VERY interesting and easy to pay attention to! Take Professor Hedges!
I loved this class. The material was really interesting and Professor Hedges was willing to work with the class on deadlines of assignments. The tests were a lot of memorization but I did pretty good with a little of effort
He is a great guy and my testimony grew a lot through this class, but holy crap do you need to take another religion class. His tests are MONSTROUSLY difficult. He acts like this is a 3 credit class instead of a religion class. Expecting you to write down everything he says on in the lecture because you never know what will be on the test. ITS BAD!
He is a nice guy with a good heart, however, if you don't take notes on every single word he says, you will do poorly on the exams. The readings are LONG. His exams are the most ridiculous things I have ever taken. It's basically all on random facts that he briefly mentions. If you want it to feel like a religion class, don't take it from Hedges.
Fabulous professor. He is the best history teacher I have ever had. He presents the information clearly and in story format. He makes study guides for the tests. He expects you to remember what is reasonable. You'll learn a lot, but you'll enjoy learning it. Do go to class, it's really important and it's really interesting!
Prof. Hedges is so kind and an amazing lecturer. Class really helped my testimony. However, do not(!) take it for credit. Every test question was worded very carefully to mess you up. And even if you can get past that, if you miss random things said in class, you won't do well on the tests. Tests weighted heavily. Ridiculously difficult class.
Talks, looks, and acts like President Eyring. Amazing lectures that feel very conversational, but take meticulous notes or the tests will sink you. Do the readings and the quizzes are super easy. Talk to him about grades if you have problems. One of my favorite religion professors so far. I can't say enough good about him and his class.
This class is so easy. There's only a few easy assignments throughout the semester. Although his lectures are boring and he's a bit disorganized. He talks quiet and writes a few barely legible things on the board so it's hard to pay attention. But he's super flexible is such a nice guy. He's super smart and will help you understand church history.
This was my last religion class in college, and it was hands down my favorite class of all time. Hedge's goal is to help students genuinely remember this content. To do this, he makes 83% of your grade attendance-based. The remaining points are several easy readings and responses, and a final that is 25 true-false questions. Amazing teacher and man
Professor Hedges is an amazing religion professor. This is the first religion class I've taken where there were no difficult quizzes based on the lecture and where I felt like I could just sit back and enjoy. Professor Hedges knows each of his students by name and remembers you. He is wonderful and I wish I could take his class again.
Professor Hedges' class is how every religion class should be. Attendance made up 75% of our grade and the rest was a few small and quick reading assignments. His goal was to have a place where we could come and not stress about what we'd be graded on, rather enjoy the material being taught. Got to enjoy a semester-long story of church history!
