Professor Higl is great! The class can be overwhelming at first and boring, but it gets better! Fairly easy paper grader and is always willing to help you when you need it. He's funny and teaches concepts related to daily life. Definately recommend him.

Professor Higl is a really cool guy. He is super willing to help you out. His lectures are usually pretty interesting and he uses a lot of relevant information.

A good guy, but needs work on the teaching aspect. He's a fair grader and very reasonable, but what we wrote about in our papers had nothing to do with what we did in class. I love English so writing papers never bothered me, but the class was a pain to go to. If you can make through them though, you'll be fine.

Professor Higl is one of the best english professor's I have had the chance to take. He is understanding, very helpful, and will help you with papers if you are confused. He makes boring things interesting, and enjoyable to learn. He is open to your point of view in discussion and doesn't make you feel stupid. Great professor!

Dr. Higl is a really great professor. He's definitely not the easiest, but he challenges his students to make us better writers. He was always willing to help with any questions I had. It's pretty scary to see how badly most of the class writes, which I saw first hand in peer review. Would definitely recommend him if you want a teacher who cares.

I really enjoyed taking this course with Dr. Higl. He's a cool guy, really laid back and interesting, who sincerely enjoys the things he's teaching. The workload was very manageable- readings & a few papers. He was a pretty fair & easy grader. It's easy to get off topic during class discussion, but as long as we were learning he didn't care.

Excellent professor who will go out of his way to make sure you understand the projects. Gives concise feedback, even if it takes a while to receive it. Loved the class and look forward to attending more of his classes in the future.

It was what you would expect from an English 111 class, it's fairly easy but a pain to sit through. He explains papers pretty well though and has good office hours if you need him.

Awesome professor! He expects college level work from his students. Class discussion is much of the period and is very helpful for essay ideas and understanding the readings. We discuss/read about relevant topics. Grading is a bit tough and slow but then again he's grading essays not scantrons. He is very open to helping students and really cares.

Good professor and respectable. Helps prepare you for the rest of college and is a great guy. Nice, smart, and easy to connect with. Participate in class and listen and you should have no problem.

In this class youll read different types of essays and books to spark interest for your own essays. Some of them were okay, and theyre not very long either. You have 3 essays, and as long as you review his previous feedback comments, and provide exceptional college level work you should be fine. Also, go to class and participate in conversation!

The class is dull sometimes, but Dr. H tries to make it enjoyable. His fashion is on POINT and he is a really funny and light-hearted professor. Communication is key with him. There's only one paper and 3 exams but they can hurt you if you don't prepare. Definitely a harder 200-level course.

Dr. Higl is great. He is responsible with his own work, and expects you to be on your end. His expectations aren't too high though. He gives a couple essays, but gives ample time to finish them and plenty of help if you ask for it. The two hour classes get really long, but he tries to make it enjoyable. Good guy and good teacher.

Higl is super smart and really knowledgeable about the history of the English language. But his class can be a lot of work, it's structured more like a 300 level class than a 200 level class. The final is both a 2000 word research essay and an essay-test. The course was really interesting, but I wish that I knew my grade in this class. Take it!

Professor Higl made learning fun and exciting which is not easily said for many professors. While there is a good amount of reading, this class is fairly easy and the tests are straight-forward open-ended questions. Higl truly compares about his students and is passionate about teaching. You will not regret taking any class of his!

I enjoyed this class- you literally just read a book and write a paper. I felt like Dr. Higl was willing to work with you on your paper, and if you show effort and write a decent paper you will do fine. I would recommend meeting with him before you hand your paper in, and he takes attendance so try to show up.

Mr Higl is a fantastic teacher! he is very clear on his grading and is willing to help you as much as you need. Participation does matter for this class. We do many discussion circles. I promise there not as scary as they may seem.

We were allowed to miss 3 classes before it affected our attendance score. If youre respectful and try your best in his class, hes very understanding. Tough grader and doesnt believe in giving 100% because theres always room for improvement. That being said I was still able to use sparknotes and get As (Id recommend doing the readings).

You have a discussion post every week and most of the time you have a short writing assignment every week too. Theres only one paper that you have to write which is at the end of the course. Hes super nice and gives good feedback. You can ask for help on your paper. I recommend this class if you need the credit.

He was the most understanding professor I had this semester. He encourages you to meet with him for help in class, or anything else really! There were a few small assignments a few tests and a research paper at the end. He includes good instructions on things. Oh, you also read kind of a lot from the text book. Lectures are helpful! Take his class!

Dr. Higl was one of my favorites this semester. This is easy to say as an English major, but he truly wants the best for his students and wants to push you to be the best you can be. He has some strong opinions and likes to play devils advocate, but it makes discussions interesting and engaging. Be ready to talk!

I love any class that is discussion based. Dr. Higl truly listens to what you have to say and gives great input on every comment. I love receiving verbal validation for my thoughts as well. He knows what he is talking about and is caring. I enjoy the content very much. A great experience to have in the English department.

Dr. Higl challenges you in your best interest. The content he chooses to discuss is actually interesting and exciting to learn. The class is very discussion based, which I enjoy. Would take again!

Higl is a great professor. Attendance is mandatory but isn't worth too much of your grade, so don't sweat it. His lectures are long but sometimes enjoyable. He doesn't respond to emails unless needed but does read them all. He really likes active participation and the students that show they care. We had three books to read and an online textbook.

Dr. Higl isn't really great at laying out expectations for assignments, and a lot of the time I found myself procrastinating papers because of it, but he really does care and wants you to do well. This class relies a lot on student participation, so don't be scared to say something.

Sometimes he would yap the whole 2 hours but he seems to really care about what he is teaching. The reading is what you'd expect form a 4 credit college course and you only have 3 essays instead of any test. He is willing to help better your writing if you are willing to put in the work.

higl is a very sweet person, but this class was a lot of work. there were readings every night, six essays, a bunch of discussion posts, and a test. he is really passionate about chaucer so it makes class more interesting. he is an easier grader, so a lot of people didn't try very hard. i think he gave up towards the end and have us an easy pass.

Dr. Higl can be really fun if you put in the effort and participate. Participation wasn't a big part of our grade, but it made the class enjoyable. He doesn't give great guidelines for assignments or much feedback on grades online, but if you meet with him about your paper you can tell he cares and gives good feedback in person!

This class you wife 3 papers. This class is writing heavy you do read 2 books tho. The teacher is great. Participation does matter especially on days you go over your essay. Overall this class is great I would take agin.

The lectures were funny, and he used a lot of examples to make connections. He gave good feedback on essays and was an easy grader for everyday work.

I really enjoyed Dr. Higl as a professor, and he is very knowledgeable overall. There are two books to read for this class and only one essay, so the workload isn't terrible. He also had ample time available to meet individually to work on our essays. Very understanding overall, and his lectures are entertaining as well!
