Very fun class and a very good teacher. The exams are very easy if you try. Half of it is take home multiple choice and the other half is essay but the essays are based off your homework. I highly recommended his class.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Highly reccommended. He teaches both 1301 and 1302, and I'm taking the other course with him next semester.
He made lecture interesting. He made it feel like a story instead of a lecture. Tests are easy. take home mult. choice test and a 2 essays in class. If you do the 2 homeworks before test, you'll ace it. (this is coming from a B/C student) TAKE HIM
Professor Hollinger makes history fun. He actually enjoyes teaching, and it shows. Leactures are fun, homework and tests are easy if you pay attention in class. He gives multiple chances for extra credit. It you don't get at least a B, maybe college isnt for you.
Hollingers' class was pretty easy. Lectures were really heartfelt and I loved how he constantly maed comparrsions to events and times in history to today. He was a bit biased however, he acted like he encouraged differnt oppionions but I soon found out he feels his are the only right ones.

Very easy if you do the work- he gives lots of help and chances for extra credit- it should be hard to fail, but if you want an A, you have to work for it. I loved his lectures- very entertaining.
I didn't really like Hollinger at first, but after a while I got used to his bizzare attitude. I mean he used to be a salesman afterall so you have to see how his style of lecture has been influenced. If you want an easy A, don't take his class. But if you like to learn and not afraid of having an eccentric teacher, then take his class.
He is interested in teaching his students and does a very good job. He sets a criteria for his students and I believe he wants them to succeed. Bottom line, if you are a student interested in learning take his class, but if you are looking for an easy A do not take him. Actually, he is very good at what he does and seems to be interested in futur
If you show up for tests and turn in your homework assignments, it's impossible to fail. I never had a hard time paying attention to the lectures, he made history somewhat interesting.
it was a good class...it was real and interesting...id recommend him if you need that class.
Very boring, gets off topic, rude, etc.

interesting class
whoa, I have never wanted to tell a teacher off in my entire life, hollinger made me want to so badly. Yes the take home test are great, I dont mind working for an A, i am an A&B student, but putting up with his rude and cocky attitude is not enough for me to reccomend him to anyone.
Kind of a jerk to the students, but he's probably the best lecturing professor at this school.
mr.hollinger is a **** and extremely unsensitive to any students ....its impossible to make an A in his class. Lectures are boring and pointless. You will learn nothing in this class.Good luck with a C at best.
rude treats u like u r a 10 year old talks down to u hard to be an A student its almost as if he doesnt want u to do well hes also very moody
If you actually appreciate getting an education take this class, he's interesting and extremely passionate about his work, which I feel most students misinterpret as being "puffed up, or whatever they call it. True that he won't give you an "A",but he was acapable enough Professor to capture my attention for an hour a day, 3 days a week!
I didn't understand his sense of humor at first and thought it was strange, but as the semester contiuned I began to like him a lot. He wants his students to try their best, because he cares about history and his job. I enjoyed this class but you have to be willing to work for your grade.
Bad ass teacher easy b little work for an a anyone who has a problem with him is a dumb ass and a lazy ****
Umm his tests are half take home (which are multiple choice) and then the other half are essays..he grades homework by adding or deducting a point off your test. He gives alot of extra credit but you MUST ATTEND CLASS to get extra credit. It's a boring class but he's interesting. I would definitly recommend him if you want an easy class.
This course was very enjoyable, however, it is difficult if you're not into writing essays.
lectures were very interesting
Hollinger was an awesome teacher. He really cares about his course, the history of America. Come to class, listen, do homework, get an "A"...I did.
Keeps it interesting. He is also very passionate about the history.
He has a passion about History but sadly didn't seem like he had a passion for teaching. I did make a B in this class. He doesn't really lecture out of the course material. If you don't know history or hate history don't take this professor! He will only make you hate History! I loved history and I did not enjoy this class. He isn't very kind eithe
Good teacher very intersting ...take home tests and then an essay test in class take him
Mr Hollinger is a well spoken intelligent man. Sometimes a bit of an intellectual snob, but an A in his class is very do-able with minimal effort. I found him to be insightful and knowledgeable about History. He is opinionated and we butted heads often - but I still made an A though I disagreed many of his opinions.
Didn't like Hollinger for several reasons: 1)he was the most arrogant teacher I've ever had. 2)felt his lectures were a waste of my time & $. Rarely anything he talked about was in the essays. 3)He used so many analogies, actually discussing history was rare. Getting an A was unnecessarily difficult. 4)Called students dumb & poor in so many words
He is not the easiest teacher if you are looking to coast through class and get an A or B without exerting any effort, but he does keep the class interesting and keeps your attention. He is a good teacher to take if you want to develop skills for the future.
Very Intelligent. I had him for both 1301 and 1302. His lectures were'nt that bad. He made history interesting and he has a passion for teaching. He has notes on his website that you print out which helps you follow along through his lectures. His tests are a take-home test and an in-class essay. somewhat opinionated... overall pretty good.
I had for 1301 and 1302. That should say something. You have to work to make a good grade in class and that means showing up to class, doing homework and extra-credit. You can pass without doing the extra credit but it will be a C. Attendence will get you to obtain your extra-credit. Test are take home multiple choice and in class essays.
Very good teacher who made the class interesting. He has a very big passion for history and this translates into good lectures and a perspective on history that you most likely haven't heard before.
I hate history, I actually dropped 1301 2 times before I took him and OMG I really enjoyed myself. He made History really make since, he cares a lot about what he is teaching and it makes a big difference. Usually I'd fall asleep but he keeps your attention for real. Also a lot of extra credit!
Main grade based completely upon ability to answer esay questions. No clear way to make an A
Unlike alot of County College course, this professor makes you work for your grade(lots of extra credit). If you attend class & do the work you will be just fine. If you are not serious about college, then this is not the class for you.
He has passion for his teaching. Lots of extra credit. Know his notes. Test are based on essay questions. Know how to do MLA. One of the best teachers around. Makes his class very interesting. You do have to know his stuff really well. You do not have to work very hard to make a C in his class, but to make an A, you have to work really really hard.
It's simple to pass his class. Go to class, do the hw ,read the text and write down what he writes on the board. I followed this simple plan and got a "B". I would have done better ,but i only did 3 of 6 hw assignments which hurt my test grade. I still could have made an "A" if i would have done extra credit, and he provides plenty of it.
Very good teacher. Know you notes, do ur hw, write what he puts on the board b/c more than likely it will be a test question. ur grade is strickly based on test, but lots of extra credit, but attendance is mandatory, u can only miss so many classes, turn ur cell phone off, no eating in class, just drinks only, u will have take home test.
He teaches you like you are ten years old. If you are stupid you will enjoy his class. If you are not you will find his lectures demeaning to your intelligence. He sucks as a human being.
The professor is awesome! I had him for history 1 and 2. He is very energetic and entertaining. If he taught every class I would take him for everything. Take home test (a little tough, but its take home...(open-book), In class essays are super easy just pay attention in class and your good. Tons of extra credit. If you fail then your an idiot...
Definately a HARD class, test are really hard & all essay in class, the only thing that kind of saved me was the take home test. Gave writing assignments as HW. Kind of arrogant but genuinely cares about the subject & getting the point across.
Took this class over the summer. Everything was essays- homework and tests, and he grades very subjectively. We had 2 hours to write 4 essays, and then we had 5 on the final. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you really, really enjoy writing, and don't mind demeaning comments about the intelligence level of the students in class.
A good lecturer. You'll learn something, but you might not get the best grade.
I took him for an 8am T-Th class, and it is the best choice I ever made. Better than 2 cups of coffee. He is energetic and passionate about History. If you just want to skate through, this is not the class for you...but if you want to be challenged and really treated like a college student, take him. Lots of extra credit.
he will tell how is really happened and explain different events. how anyone can understand.
if you take this class prepare to write a lot of papers. it sucks but they are helpful for the test and i learned more that i would have if he had just taught from the book.
he's a very good speaker! makes the class very interesting and keeps you awake! he makes you think about history and how it applies to todays world. if you do the homework and show up you'll pass. he's ex military so he's set in his ways but overrall he's a good teacher. I highly recomend him!
I wish I could have taken him a long time ago. Very easy Class if you do the work. You get alot out of this class. Hes a great teacher tells a lot of stories...Tons of Extra credit..But have to show good attendance to get ti....Take home test, In class test essays..Online notes..He makes the class really easy all you have to do is put in your part
He really makes history interesting! He can seem intiminating but he is open for questions. Work demand is high, but as long as you put in effort you can pass. Lots of extra credit.
He may be a bit arrogant, but he is an excellent professor. I learned more about history in his class that i have in my entire life. I suggest that everyone test drive Professor Hollinger.
The guy definately knows what hes talking about. Lectures are very interesting. However, theres a lot of essays to write in this class. Being that English Composition is my biggest weakness, I found the class rather hard. Grading is very subjective and very hard to make an A on a test. To his benefit, I must say he does give a lot of extra credit.
His lectures are always interesting and engaging. There is a lot of extra credit, so it's pretty much impossible to fail this class, if not get an A. I recommend his class to anyone taking history at the NE campus.
Mr. Hollinger is one of the most bright teachers I have ever encountered. Though he is very opinionated, he is very factual as well. I absolutely envy this mans ability to show emotion within history. I HIGHLY recommend this class. Also, if you show up on time- there are points you receive for being continually punctual. He is an awesome guy!
The first time I actually paid attention to a HISTORY class. I actually learned something and never once fell asleep in his class. HE WAS GREAT!
I'm in this class right now and I couldn't hate it more. He is arrogant, demeaning, judgemental, and constantly making stereotypical comments about women and non-"winners". The coursework is unecessarily difficult and I dread going to class every single week. I'll do anything to avoid taking another of his classes. He's a horrible person.
Bad a teacher, Mr. Hollinger is very informative about the topics. He gets many points accross, makes it fun, and keeps you listening the entire class period. Very intelligent and knowledgeable teacher! To the person below me, grow up and learn the ways of life.
He is demeaning toward women, very rude and condescending. I also wonder how many of the previous comments were put up by him. He keeps up with this site and even pulled it up during class one day and read some of the negative comments...very professional.
This class is ridiculous
This is a teacher you do not want to miss out on! He is the easiest teacher to work with, he makes it nearly impossible to fail. He offers more than just history, he offers life lessons and is relevant to our generation. He's an amazing teacher! If you fail, you are retarded
the people that post negative comments on here are the retards that failed, dont listen to them, they are just angry they failed an unfailable class ...
Dont take his class unless u enjoy gettin a C aftr spending hrs on xtra cred, essay tests,hw,reading,&sitting thru his, quite frankly, egotistical&demeaning lectures, being talkd 2 like ur so stupid when u ask him anything. Hollinger is a TERRIBLE Professor&he blames evry1 but himself that he "woke up broke". Hes ruthless, stuckup,&deserves a good slap
If you like getting a C after all your hard work then you should take him.
Professor Hollinger is by far the best professor i have had through my college years. Yes, his class is relatively difficult, but it is structured to be comparable to a university level course. The people who are putting him down just didn't do the work. If you read the book do a little extra credit and participate in class you are sure get an A
His CLass is not exactly "Difficult" it just is incredibly demanding for a non major class. It is just regular history but his coursework is incredibly large and time consuming. WITH THAT SAID, it is easy to get an A if you have alot of time on your hands and are willing to do the work. AS FOR HIM TEACHING. I think he is excellent, very good teache
His class was very entertaining because he really really really does care about what he is talking... he doesnt get on a personal level with his students but then again "he isnt a elementary school teacher" overall he was very demanding with lots of extra credit BUT he makes you think like a true college course should
One of the most interesting teachers i've ever had. This class is on a university level so if youre about to transfer to a university i would suggest taking it. Lots of essays, makes you think, demands a lot. GREAT teacher, interesting lectures, funny, makes history not so bad. Extra credit will definately pass you...
He is a difficult grader, but the extra credit and take home test should help. Overall not one of the easiest teachers I've had. As said before, he teaches at a university level. DO EXTRA CREDIT. He offers a lot but it's time consuming.... as is the whole class..... Try and get another teacher.
I love his class! It was hard work but we are college students. He belongs at a four year school we are lucky to have him. He took the time to give me advice and I did not find him the least bit degrading to women as I am one. I made an A, you can too. So much extra credit only a moron could fail, Notice, those who don't like him can't spell(Clue!)
Mr. Hollinger gives you every opportunity to succeed. His lecture outlines are available online and multiple opportunities for extra credit are available. He will challenge you to think but he's a fantastic teacher. Take him. You won't regret it. Class flies by, even in my T/TH class. He makes it really interesting. Well worth taking.
He Is my absolute favorite professor that I have had in college. He is one of the reasons that I am studying to be a history teacher. As long as you make an attempt at the class there is no reason whatsoever that you should not pass! And theres not to come to class because he makes it interesting and uses real life examples to help you understand!!
He is great at lectures, he will keep you awake (really gets in to it and is highly passionate about this you can't help but be brought in to it) His tests are hard;however there are SO many extra credit opportunities you should at least get a C. He grades hard but it is worth it, you truly will learn a lot. TAKE HIM!
For his Online course, the instructions he gives for his writing assignments are very unclear. To earn above a 95 on an assignment is impossible. I would look for a different teacher.
He is by far the best professor I have had. His class isn't a breeze, which is what's wonderful about. He actually grabs your attention and makes you think. You cannot fail this class if you simply try. He is an amazingly interesting, funny, and intelligent teacher. You should give yourself this experience.
Great,Interesting,Funny teacher. Makes sure you learn about History, something about him grabs your attention, you get sucked in to the lectures. Im not getting A's or anything,I'll admit his class is not easy, you will work for a A or B, you automatically get a C, he doesn't fail apparently. Read the chapters, listen to the lectures, ask questions.
Well, when I first walked into his class I found him to be a very attractive but rude man. MY mind has been changed though. He is humble and honest, keeps your attention, gives you an iea of history tht makes you think deep. He is not really a people person though. He IS kind of rude and sometimes seems to be rather judgemental w/o reason.
After reading most of the comments here it seems like the prof. himself logs on to this site and grades himself. Many comments stated include answers to questions I'd asked him during the course. If you take his class make sure you prepare yourself for a final grade of 'B', he will never give you an 'A' because it will degrade his Ph.D teaching lev
Be ready to listen to alot of biking, and very little useful information. He loves to talk about himself and how much money he spends on his bike. On the other hand, all you have to do to get at least a B, are his take home tests, and show up to guess on his lecture test.Don't bother cramming all the lecture notes into memory, they won't make sense
Yes, there is work you have to do, but you learn history. He relates history to events that we have been through and understand. He is fair when grading. You get take home tests and in class tests. If there are problems that almost everyone missed he will not count those questions. If your attendance is nearly perfect you can recieve extra credit.
Well if you take him, be prepared to not learn anything. He just talks about himself and then tests about the book. It's so ridiculous.
this guy is totally full of himself. i cant believe he is even a teacher. He thinks his class is better than a history class at harvard.. he even said that.
Hollinger is a really awesome professor. Grabbing ones attention in history is usually extremely hard to do but he manages to get you excited about the lecture. Attendance is essential and he offers many extra credit opportunities if you show up! Truly one of my favorite professors yet! Take him!
His multiple choice test are almost impossible to do well on. He does offer plenty of ex credit but, if you have other classes or children you WONT have the time for the majorly time consuming extra credit. He does know his stuff and the lectures are interesting he just needs to learn how to write a multiple choice test
One of the best teachers I've had. Really kept me interested. His book is pretty good, and in 1302 he gives you extra credit for doing a book report on it. I hate history, but he has definitely made me want to take him for 1301 next semester. He teaches them backwards lol. He is pretty easy to pass as long as you pay attention and do extra credit
Mr. Hollinger at first is a scarey professor b/c you'll think you'll never pass his class, but he offers lots of extra credit. His lectures are very interesting and his enthusiasm for the material is great. The exams consist of a take home test and a in class essay and multi-choice questions, which are easy if you study.
If you want an easy A, don't take this class; however, if you want to learn about history, he is your teacher. He keeps you engaged through his lectures and will tell you straight away that you can NOT fail his class unless you fail to show up in his class. I really enjoyed the class, but worked my butt off for my A.
I took his online class and did very well. Do your assignments and the class should not be that hard for you. He is very quick to responed to your emails and I missed a test one time and emailed him and he let me make it up. He was a very good teacher. I would recommend him!
If you want to learn something not just about History, but about how to be successful at life, take his class. First off he looks like a knock off version of Eric Clapton and sounds like a used Car Salesman. All you have to do is play his game and WIN! I would consider him to be one of my role models. Overall he is my favorite Professor.
TAKE HIS CLASS.. so like I took this man's class almost 2 years ago and can still remember some of the history he taught me. He made a huge impression on me as a person. He cares about his students learning about history and life. Don't plan on him for a blow off semester though. I get A's and in his class I busted it for a B! Worth all of it
This is probably one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I go to a university and took it over a maymester and had to work twice as hard as I predicted to get the grade. He is a great teacher though and keeps the class moving. I would recommend him if you have to take a history class.
I think someone has already said it .. These ratings are from hollinger himself. If you like to be demeaned and you intelligence insulted this is the character for you. He knows his stuff and is intresting, but so full of himself and peppers his lectures with personal b.s. this is a core class. a hard class does not equal a good one.macho jerk!!!
UUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! Take another teacher.
Yes Hollinger is a hard teacher. he does not spoon feed you answers. he does expect you to take the information he teaches and add thought to it but he is not an ass like people write. he gives so much extra credit how can you make a bad grade? heres a thought. spend more time on the work and less complaining and i bet you'll get a better grade!
Hollinger is an extremely knowledgeable history professor who manages to also be interesting. He probably has more exp in his pinky than the person who left the recent negative comment. Do the work, study the notes, get the grade. Recommendation to Hollinger: Make your notes more accessible; I spend too much time writing and not enough listening.
Honestly, history is NOT my strong suite, but Mr. Hollinger makes it interesting. No, you cannot just come to class and expect to pass. You have to actually do your homework, and study. THAT IS COLLEGE "Ladies and Gentlemen" (haha). You have to take this class, so you might as well take it from soneone who knows what they are talking about.
I love him. haha ignore all the bad stuff about him. He's awesome!!
This is a history class so a lot of reading is required. He offers extra credit so an A is pretty easy to get, that is the good part. The bad part is that Prof. Hollinger is the teacher. He is pretty overbearing and arrogant if you are into that kind of thing then this is your man ;) I suggest another teacher.
Hollinger is a bit arrogant and at times turns lectures into political statements, but all in all he's okay. Print off his notes from the website and do the take home quiz in a group and youll be just fine.
Hollinger isn't as bad is everyone makes him seem. He is very opinionated but if you do get offended and approach him about it, he is very apologetic. does offer extra credit (lame STUFF...but he does offer it.) TAKE THE ESSAY TESTS! -CHRISTINA. SUMMER SESSION II.
He is a hard teacher, but definitely not boring. He is my favorite history teacher of all time, since he presents the facts along with his interpretation and others. A little too enthusiastic in his lectures to some people, but I found them to be highly enjoyable. Work hard and you will get an A or B. I recommend him.
Good teacher, passionate for what he teaches, and hes always trying to improve the way he teaches, no hes not easy but thats why your going to college, to take college level classes, do the work get the grade
He gives way more than needed extra credit opportunities I'd recommend him to hard working students
Mr. Hollinger is a great teacher and one of the most interesting people I have met. He served in the Vietnam War, graduated form Washington and Lee University (a top notch school), and was extremely successful in his previous career! I have learned a ton of information! I worked very hard and received an A. I had to do a bunch of Extra Credit.
He makes this class unnecessarily difficult. No one should ever be required to know as much as he expects over one of the most mundane subjects.
Great class, great teacher! Gives great personal examples and is an awesome lecturer. Loved listening to his lectures!
Awesome teacher. Took him for the May mester. Actually made History bearable. Grades a bit harsh. Take him if you want an interesting teacher!
Professor Hollinger is GREAT, seriously. I read some of the bad reviews ppl gave him and I even tought on the first day that he might be somewhat rude or arrogant but he was just trying to make a point- That his class is NOT easy. He for sure is like my favorite history teacher and he really makes this interesting and learnable- TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he was a GREAT teacher, he relates history to things n present day so its easier to relate. If u listen, u'll do fine on the in class exams. He gives a take hm test which is a giveway of 50 pts, so ur really only studying for the in class which again if u listen n class piece of cake! He also offers extra credit so if u do bad u didn't try.
Record his lectures and pass the tests. Understanding guy that gives alot of xtra credit. Record his lectures and pass the tests!
Mr. Hollinger makes the class far too difficult for a basic HIST-1301 class and he focuses in on the most insignificant events in history. He grades essays harshly and is rude in his responses to my questions. I understand that this is college and we are held to higher standards but his are ridiculous and unnecessary. I am taking his online course.
Professor Hollinger is an excellent professor! I went into his class hating America, and hating the way we act. Through his lectures, and homework assignments, I really understand why we are, and why we act "American." Best teacher in my life!
His test are hard. But, if you do the extra credit and you show up you should be able to make an A.
If you do not like writing essays, do not take this class. Otherwise, really enjoyed the class! Mr. H. is very passionate about history. So, all you history lovers - take this class for sure!
Would recommend taking!! Very interesting lectures and gives a lot of extra credit, easy to make a decent grade. You do have to study for tests though but not much inclass work otherwise!!
mr. hollinger was a good teacher. he very PASSIONATE about history and sometime he would tell stories.he is very intesting to listen to. Attendence is not mandtory but he like you to show up to class and don't like people showing up late and if you do come in quietly.read the chapters before coming to class like to ask questions to the class.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Assuming that you plan on attending class with regularity, the reviews will allow you to achieve the grade you deserve. You will come out of his class with a deeper understanding of American history, which is why you are taking the class in the first place.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. Not because he is easy but cause he cares that you understand what he is trying to teach. His teaching style is amazing, during his lectures in class not only do you learn about history you learn life lessons to make you a better student and person. oh and he gives out LOTS of ex credit! :)
He is very interesting to listen to, and his notes are easy to follow. I still can't figure out though where the test questions come from. I don't think he ever goes over them during his lectures. Read the text book!
This class is way too difficult for what it is. I put in too much effort and for what I get in return, he is a very tough grader. Every time i have approached him with a question he was VERY rude. He will not tell you when your assignments are due.... you are on your own
Took his online history class. His syllabus was very clear, no question on due dates, was able to work at my own pace. Communicates well. Read his lecture notes! weekly quizzes, 4 tests, and 5 essays , with several opportunities for extra credit. Way to talk to, would prob be great for classroom teacher too.
Mr. Hollinger is an amazing teacher. I fully enjoyed him and if possible would take him again. I had him for both history classes. He is my favorite teacher here at TCC. His class is easy if you attend class, do the work and pay attention. He is willing to help and has many many extra credit options. He makes history interesting. :)
Mr.Hollinger was the best teacher I haveever had.He relly cares and it is his goalto make sure you understand. Lots of extra credt options. Tests are easy if you attend class, pay attention and read your book. I would take him for a third class if I could. I HIGHLY recomend him!
It's called winning, Mr. Hollinger teaches you that. He is very good at what he does. The class was very tough, but if you do what you're supposed to do then you should get a well deserved A and you can take my word for that. I'm grateful for the life lesson, as well as history lessons that i learned in his class. You won't regret taking this class
You'll earn anything over a C - he tells you the formula the first day of class. Very intelligent, entertaining, worldly guy that was an Army officer and successful salesman at IBM. I wouldn't recommend him if you want an easy A but if you want to actually learn something, this is a great class.
Professor Hollinger is an amazing teacher! his class is entertaining to say the least and he is FUNNY! I loved every moment of his class. If you want to learn more than just history take his class. if you have trouble with motivation he's one of those teachers you bust your butt and try to impress. although after 2 sem i dont think he knows my name
Honestly, if you are looking for a professor who is REALLY funny and entertaining, I recommend this class 100%! He is an awesome professor. One of the best. Here is the downside. His test are EXTREMELY hard. If you do not read your pages or take notes and study, you will fail. He doesn't have a midterm. He has 4 take home test. HARD CLASS.
Hollinger's class is really interesting because you can tell that history is his passion. He makes the class entertaining, but it isn't easy. I learned a lot! Make sure to read the book, because you will be lost without it on the tests. Overall, great class. I would definitely take him again.
I loved this prof!Hes pretty easy just read the chapters. His lectures are sometimes off topic but not too bad. Kind of a strange man... I would take him again if I could
Teaches how college should be taught. It isnt high school anymore kiddies. Great at covering and being honest about whats on the exams. DO NOT TAKE if you want your hand held, and bottom lip wiped.
You have to take his class. Seriously. If you ask anyone on campus about Hollinger they'll instantly know who you're talking about, he has quite the reputation. He's an amazing lecturer and extremely fair and understanding in his grading practices, I'd love to take one of his classes again.
Very passionate during lectures likes to joke around and ask hypothetical questions. Very straight forward and teaches what he believes is most important and not every single war and thing in the book. Book is very necessary though used for take home tests. Gives you options for in class test either MC/short answer or 3 short answers questions.
I was a little surprised with Hollinger. He's a historian for sure, but a cyclist and a businessman as well. If you do his optional interview with an old person, you'll learn something about yourself and get to replace any awful period grades you have. He's old school but I'd rather sit through this class than any other at TCC. Hugely entertaining
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Great Professor, he is very passionate about history and he is very entertaining!
Great professor, with a great attitude and a hard working mentality, this is what a college course should be like, in my opinion if more instructor were like Andrew Hollinger, the quality of a degree would be more valuable.
6 wk summer semester. Too many papers for a history class. 6 in total. His critiques of assignments were vague, did a lot of '....' after sentences, rather than being specific. Fair with grades though. Tests and quizzes were spot on with reviews. I would recommend as long as you're okay with lots of writing. VERY fast at grading.
GREAT TEACHER! lots of extra credit, notes are available online, do the work and get what you deserve! very fast grader also!
Mr. Hollinger is extremely knowledgeable. His lectures are amazing, he is very engaging in his lecture style. He makes history relevant. His take home tests are easy if you form a study group and work on it together. His part 2 tests are kinda hard. I highly recommend this class if you like a challenge and you want a quality class.
IDL History! I'm Pre-med. Mr. Hollinger's class is EASY. All you have to do is STUDY!Do the TH test, Form a group. Essay Tests are difficult. However, there is no way you cant get an A..Tons of EXTRA-CREDIT! Had him for Summer. Love His passion for history. made it interesting how he relates it to our modern time.He challenges You! Ask questions..EH
Excellent analogies with the lectures. If your expecting straight forward and by the book, not for you. Although I enjoyed the abstract teaching and grading methods.
Very knowledgeable and kept the lecture interesting by providing anecdotes every 15 minutes or so. His class, however, is not a "blow off". His makes this clear from day one. You will definitely learn and enjoy his class. Test are simple. Take home is easiest if done in a group and the "part rwo" is a more challenging, but very doable.
He is very passionate about history. I like to listen intently and read hard to get a good grade without doing extra credit. It was impossible for me to do that with this class. To get an A extra credit is a must. The multiple choice test is very hard(trick quiz maybe?) however hard I read the textbook couldn't find answers. Harsh grader on papers.
Teacher was great! His tests are ridiculously hard, and none of the answers are in the book! Don't bother wasting your money on the book you will never use it. Attendance is mandatory for extra credit. He is very passionate about history. If you want an easy grade this is not the class for you, if you love challenging he is the perfect teacher then
Hardest prof I ever had. But worth it. He is very passionate about what he teaches. That's not always common!
This professor really knows his stuff and gives a good lecture. Syllabus is complicated and long, but halfway through the year, you get it. Tests are hard, but he has a bunch of extra credit opportunities. Homeworks are 2 page single spaced. I would advise to take him if you actually want to learn about history. To make an A, take someone easier.
He was a great teacher, his lectures were fun, and entertaining, his online test are almost impossible to pass, but his take-home test are easy enough. He has lots of extra-credit, so you should really do those. Overall he's hard teacher but fun.
Hard Professor, There is a lot of writing assignments. He is very into the subject so he grades hard. On the chapter quizzes you get 3 chances to take it. if you do the work you will get an A. He does give extra credit. This is not a blow off class. A lot of work will be put into this class but you also learn a lot from him.
Took him almost a year ago. By far the BEST professor I had in my life. Just do your homework and keep up and its not a problem. He have full knowledge of what he does, very clear, sometimes to clear. Test are hard if you don't study, simple as that. Most importantly, he open my eyes about history in a way I can put it in my everyday life.
Very satisfied with Hollinger. I really enjoyed his class, Fast grader. Lazy people seem to fail this class.
VERY PASSIONATE FOR HIS WORK AS A TEACHER. YES HE IS HARD BUT HE IS ALWAYS TEACHING LIFE LESSONS IN ORDER TO MAKE OURSELVES BETTER. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOUR NOT WILLING TO PUT THE EFFORT AND TIME IN ORDER TO PASS HIS CLASS. HE'S A GREAT TEACHER AND ALWAYS TRIES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN EVERYBODYS LIFE'S
I busted my BUTT in this class. In order to have an A You'll need to have to make at least a 360 out of 400, in which consist of 4 100-point tests. He gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities if you happen to screw up on the tests, but you'll learn to savor each and every point like it's your last. He teaches many life lessons, too. Recommend.
He acts like his class is literally the only one that should matter to you. Funny, I was expecting his to be the easiest/most irrelevant class considering I was taking Anatomy & Physiology lecture and lab the same semester. I got the worst grade in his class out of ALL my classes. It was unnecessarily difficult and he liked it that way.
TAKE HIM! He is very passionate and very helpful. Do the essay version for part 2 of the tests! Also make sure to use 2 sources (quote him, and the book) for the biweekly paper.. he'll give extra credit! His class is hard in the summer, but he is an awesome teacher!!
I have no been bored a single moment in this class. As someone who hates history, I can honestly say to take this man. He's easy on the eyes, makes you laugh, and gives you some pretty good life lessons in the progress. You do not really have to know history to make a good grade, there's plenty of extra credit and opportunity to do well. TAKE IT.
If you do the work, he will pass you. You have to work pretty hard to get a good grade. He's very interesting in his lectures and he's funny. he gives lots of extra credit, theyre big jobs though so start on it ASAP, youll be glad you did. Fully reccomend taking him!
I highly recommend professor Hollinger, but you are expected to participate in the lecture, study, and be able to write short essays. He really knows how to make history interesting. Lot's of extra credit is available.
Grades way too hard! I am an A student and put in lots of effort but made a B thanks to his hard grading. 6 wk summer course with a 1500 word essay due every week. I was anxious to learn and did find the reading very entertaining but not so much all the writing. He expects too much for an undergraduate course.
Professor Hollinger is amazing. He's incredibly intelligent, well spoken, funny & his lectures are amazing. He responds to e-mail pretty fast and will always help. He will offer study assistance but he will not try to save you, you have to be willing to ask for help if you're sinking.
He is very rude and rather ignorant, but he really prepares you for college. I strongly recommend reading the chapters before his lecture, so you understand what he is talking about. The tests are extremely hard and he's a tough grader, but I would probably take his class again.
His lectures are phenomenal. He relates historical events to modern-day life so it's easier to understand what is happening during those events. He gives lots of extra credit, so it is very hard to fail. You do need to studyread for his online tests, but other than that his class is great, & I plan on taking his History II class next semester.
I absolutely love this class and his teaching style. He connects history on a level that really makes you understand and he isn't afraid to be controversial. Offers tons of extra credit and is a great and very understanding professor.
He is a funny person and you can relate to his stories in class but he is an AWFUL teacher. I do not recommend him at all, his work load and ethic is ridiculous. I now hate history because of him. Please do not take him.
Online Class. This class requires a lot of time. 2 big papers and 4 essays + 4 test and 10 quizzes. It is a lot of work. Does not proved feedback on grading essays, very subjective. Tough grader. A students have to work hard to get A. Extra-credit provides few points, with a lot of work. Interesting. clear assignments, little feedback.
A lot of people don't like Mr. Hollinger because his class DOES require extra work if you want to pass. If you do study groups, read the chapters, and pay attention to his lectures in class then you will be perfectly fine. He is great at connecting real life examples and situations to history that makes it more relate-able and retain-able.
Great class, great teacher. Deadlines are very vague though, and if you miss an assignment you better do the extra credit to fix it, there are a lot of points in the test parts.
Mr. Hollinger is awsome teacher. He is very dedicated and expects same from you. He is not that hard once you figure out what he wants you to study for the test. A lot of extra credit is available. Start working on extra credit from day 1 if you dont wanna worry about grades in the end.
Professor Hollinger's lectures are actually really interesting! Do the extra credit and take the essay tests in order to do well. Come to class and read the textbook! A great professor that really cares about history although sometimes his lectures get off topic.
Mr. Hollinger is a good teacher, but be prepared to write and write and write. I enjoyed his class, I really did learn, but I spent more time writing papers for him than I spent doing work for all my other classes combined. He does give a lot of extra credit, but of course it involves writing papers. His quizzes and tests are pretty easy though.
Hollinger is a great professor! His lectures can be long, but he makes it interesting. Not many tests, but they can be hard. He gives lots of extra credit. He makes the lectures relatable and fun. You don't really need the book unless you want to know what's going on. If you do the work you will be fine!
Professor Hollinger is a great guy and he obviously loved his job, but his class was extremely difficult. If you are excellent at history and would love to be challenged, then take his class. However, if history is difficult for you, then stay away from his class. If you take it, START THE EXTRA CREDIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! It's what saved me.
I took mr. Hollinger for 1301 and decided to switch it up for 1302 and i am already missing him! He's so passionate about what he teaches. The only thing I would suggest is take the essay test the multiple choice answeres are very hard to understand. Over all he is very good at what he teaches and treats you like an adult.
This professor is clear cut and specific you will know what is expected of you right off the bat. Extra credit is available also. If you do the work you will be successful in his class. I recommend you take him.
i loved his lectures, it was an early class so it was hard to get up and go, but he has such great stories and makes terribly long lectures super fascinating! i wish i had had him for all of my history classes!!
I would definitely recommend taking Mr. Hollinger to anyone who is looking for a relatively easy class that is also very interesting. I normally don't have any interest for history, but Mr. Hollinger's lectures were informative without being boring and I actually enjoyed going to the class. Also, there's up to 200 extra credit points!
do not be an idiot "Do the EXTRA CREDIT!" Super easy & it will increase your chances to pass this class with an "A". Very little homework & test, but do need to pay attention to be able to keep up with what he is talking about. It is better to take 1301 & 1302 from him. Gives great advice for now & future. DO not be afraid to talk, great lectures.
A lot of information is given at the beginning of the course which is very overwhelming, but it's very helpful. He is very clear and gives examples of what he is looking for. This class requires effort and is not super easy but an A is definitely possible. He offers tons of extra credit too!
Day one Mr. Hollinger tells you exactly what he expects. It is very inspirational to see his passion to teach and he has funny stories like The Spaghetti story to help remember events. The extra credit is so easy and great way to make sure you get an A or close to it. Take advantage of the Group SI sessions you will see the benefit on your test
Total respect for his passion for teaching. It maybe a little too much since its ONLY history but whatever. Hardcore grader on homework essay.. GEEZ its only history. Online test is hard as F. Too much personal story about IBM and outsourcing to India. I find it annoying since im a Java Developer, tired of Old engineer outdated perspective.
Mr. Hollinger is a professor you'll never forget. I took him for History 1301 and 1302, and if I could, I would take him again. The lectures are interesting, and Mr. Hollinger will throw in a few funny stories that he always connects back to the lecture. You won't get an easy A, but if you put in the effort, you will succeed.
Mr. Hollinger made me passionate about US History! His lectures are the best and I am honestly sad that I won't get to listen to them anymore! His tests are tough, but if you read and pay attention (which its hard not too cause he is very interesting) you will do fine! I would definitely take him again!!!
I took Professor Hollinger's honors course. It was my first college class and it has been one of the hardest so far. He is an interesting lecturer; you will not get bored. Unfortunately he is not as clear as he could be and there were many times where myself and other students were confused on the point of the lectures.
I absolutely love Mr. Hollinger. By far my favorite professor so far. He is hilarious, gives memorable lectures, & gives lots of opportunities to raise your grade. You will have to put in effort to maintain a decent grade, but if you pay attention to the lectures you will be fine. His course is not hard, but not easy. Sad I won't have him again.
Phenomenal. One of the best professors I have ever had. He is a natural leader and mentor and he uses his lectures not only to teach you about how fascinating history is, but to inspire you and introduce you to new ways of thinking. He presents history through the perspective of the people. I took him two semesters in a row because he was so great.
By far the best professor I have had. Wonderful lectures. He takes the philosophy of the time, psychology of the people and historical events so you have a complete knowledge and understanding of not just the events that happened but why they happened and what motivated the people and events that shaped history and culture and how relevant today
You're definitely not going to breeze through his class, but if you actually pay attention in class and do the work, it's a lot of fun. He makes American History genuinely fascinating.
AMAZING! his lectures are so interesting he really knows what he is talking about, he won't just give you the facts he will go into detail about them. Yes, he does make you work for your grade so if you are the type of person to procrastinate I would recommend you don't take his class.
He is definitely not your average professor, he's unique. This class is one of the only classes that really makes me enjoy waking up early to come to his class. He wants you to participate in his class and blends in his personal stories with the subjects we review. Would take him again without a doubt!
The questions on the tests have nothing to do with his lectures/notes. Read your book. He expects you to know way too much in-depth stuff about History. Online tests are 34 questions and an essay, all in 45 minutes. Which may be different for some people, but sure as hell wasn't enough time for me. If you want an easy grade do not take his class.
Hollinger is a great man! He makes his lectures very interesting and I liked his class. He gives 4 exams, 4 homework assignments (they are all 2 single spaced papers over a topic he puts in the syllabus), and 4 take home open book test. His actual exams are HARD. I got an A in his class, but you have to work for it!
If you want an easy class do NOT take him. Very interesting lectures and relates history by comparing to things this day and age, HOWEVER! If you miss a class, if you don't do the reading, don't study for the tests, you WILL fail. Hardest class I've ever taken. Great prof., HARD CLASS! LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES!
He is a hard teacher, but the reason I am taking him again for history 2 is because you will learn in his class. You do the work you will pass. He LOVES history you can tell its his passion. Although I got a high C+ if I had listen more I would of had a B! LOTS of EXTRA CREDIT
Hollinger is probably one of the best and most inspirational teachers I have ever come across and I HATE I wont have him again. He is highly recommended. Simply listen, DO THE HOMEWORK, take home quiz, and online test an you're GUARANTEED to be successful in the class. They don't give out trophies for the knowledge he gives, for history & life.
Good teacher, leans left on the political scale and isn't afraid to put his 2 cents in. Despite his liberal comments made throughout the lectures, he is not that bad of a Professor and gives a pretty decent lecture. However, I would not take him again. Just do the work and the tests and you'll be good.
1. If you want to learn something take his class. 2. How to pass: Do your work, he gives so much extra credit there is no way you can fail! 3. Great Lectures
Hollinger was hands down one of the greatest professors I had in college. He's not your average professor since he really teaches from the heart. He criticizes what he thinks is bull and he gives praise to what he thinks deserves it. If you really want to learn something, take this class. He won't spit facts at you, but you'll learn much more.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It's what got me an A. He'll grow on you. Barely did homework. Very passionate about history. Great man.
This is by far the best professor I ever had. The problem was that I didn't care enough in this class. If you are politically correct and sensitive do not take him. He tells it how it is and never takes it easy. Lots of extra credit, so if you fail, you seriously need to rethink about college. I made a D, all because I didn't care, and didn't read
I did not know how to file this experience at first, but he does grow on you. He is NOT politically correct, be warned. I did not expect to have such a lasting impression. I learned so much in this class, wrote MANY papers and made the grade I desired. This class is a very good one, you will get out of it what you put into it. He really cares.
I can't say enough positive things about this professor. He prepares you for your future college career. If you can't do well in his class, quit now! Don't waist your money. If you think coasting through class is helpful, this isn't your guy. If you want encouragement and good advice, this is your guy. Put in the work and you will be rewarded.
A very amazing teacher. Class is challenging. But so fun. I wish he taught more than history because I would take him again. He's a great guy. He's understanding that we students have outside lifes and things do come up.
There are around 6 essays to write. Quizzes every chapter. 3/4 Exams.
An insane amount of work for a summer class. Unclear grading on essays. He graded to his viewpoint. 3 times to take quizzes, one time for the exams. Be ready to do a LOT of writing. The textbook was inconsequential as all you really needed were the notes he posted. He challenged me and that was good. I would not take him again though.
Professor Hollinger is a tough but solid choice. I took his class first thing in the morning last semester and it was the perfect way to start off the mornings. His lectures will keep even the lowest attention span millennials engaged. Homework is few and far between but it's far from a gaff off class, you have to seriously work to prep for tests.
Hollinger's 1301 course is made up of four tests worth 100 points each. Lectures are irrelevant to the tests, and the tests are designed to trick his students. He is unclear with his expectations and his due dates. His teaching methods are ineffective and at times inappropriate. I strongly recommend avoiding his class if possible.
It's a very textbook heavy class, and lecture driven mostly. Attendance isn't really required, but you sign in. There are take home tests and an online timed test. Those are the two parts to the test. There is also a short answer online that is timed and the information on the test isn't usually what is covered in the test.
Very good presenter of material. Knowledgeable.
Ok, so yes I will give the man credit, he has some pretty interesting lectures. Yes he give a tremendous amount of extra credit, but they are attendance sensitive so if you miss more than 3 classes you are screwed out of the extra credit. Hard to study for tests because lectures were not helpful with notes for tests. Homework was 2pgs SINGLE SPACED
Hollinger explains history thoroughly and in a "big-picture" way that is easy to understand. His homework is challenging, but his expectations are clear. He is hilarious; lectures are peppered with his own stories that either drive his point home or are just for fun. He is very helpful during office hours and genuinely cares for students.
Professor Hollinger is a great teacher. He's really entertaining and my 55 minute periods sped by because I was so engulfed by his lectures. His homework is easily manageable, and his tests are take home which is nice. Only difficult part were the online tests, simply because you self teach through the book. I found this class to be very enjoyable.
I've already enrolled in Professor Hollinger's HIST1302 class next semester.
If you are afraid of falling alsleep during history, take this profs class. I enjoyed going to this class. This prof does not baby you but he is caring and entertaining. The open book take home test makes reading the book easier. He gives tons of extra credit as well.
His lectures are review only. He expects you have read the chapters (4per module) or 2 per week before his lecture. He will highlight the most important for his lectures. Also his tests are essay based on homework and alternative homework. If you read and study the all the homework questions from the regular and alternative homework you will pass
Seriously the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are amazing. Tests are challenging but pay attention in class and read your book and you'll be fine. You're responsible for your own grades in this class. But he gives plenty of extra credit. There's no reason to fail his class. He makes it very interesting, but you have to put work in too.
Man, I don't know. I swear I did my best, studied really hard but at the end I could not get any higher grade than D. The Test, OMG the Test. It is only 45 minutes and 34 questions plus an Essay, a freaky Essay. How am I supposed to do a 150 words essay in 15 minutes. And even if u do it, you are not going to get a B grade for that Essay.
Tough professor, however his lectures are absolutely brilliant. He blends his history lectures into what's happening in the present world. He doesn't disguise the brutal & unethical truth of our nation's past with urban myths & fabricated lies told to us by textbooks. He makes anything & everything fascinating. Toughen up & take his class.
I had a hard time deciding whether I liked Professor Hollinger at first. He is very straight to the point ( he tells it as it is.) But as time went on, he started to grow on me. His lectures are phenomenal, they will capture everyones attention! He really has a passion for what he teaches! His tests are hard, do the extra credit and you will be ok
Amazing lectures!! I do not recommend him if you hate reading, writing or being extremely challenged. This is not the easiest class.
He gives a lot of extra credit, by optional essays which are only 500-1000 words. There is a lot of writing but he grades in your favor. The quizzes pretty much come straight from his lessons he posts so I hardly used the book at all. He has 3 major tests and they are fairly hard but you can easily pass.
Mr Holinger is very challenging! But the class is fun! If you talk to him if you do not like your grade he will tell you what to do. at first I could not tell if I liked him or not but he is a fun teacher!OFFERS ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT! Which some are watch some normal movies like hairspray and write a paper about it!
After reading his 4 pg Syllabus, I just wasn't sure I f I would like him. SO MANY PAPERS. He treats this 1301 class as if its a honors level Grad class. 5-6 papers due 3 pg single spaced. 5 pg minimum single spaced term paper (2500 words roughly). Only good thing is he gives A LOT of extra credit which are 2-3 pg papers. I dropped @ 8wks
This professor knows his history. You will work to earn your grade in this class. You fail to do the reading or show up and listen to lectures you will not pass. His tests are hard but he gives out extra credit. You will write in this class. This is not your easy high school class taught by the coach who cares about his athletes 1st and hist 2nd
Professor Hollinger is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He puts history into a perspective you can understand, his lectures are beyond enjoyable and the work load is easily manageable. You have to take care of the work, but you will thoroughly enjoy not only his class but his outlook on history. I would suggest him to anyone I know.
Professor Hollinger is amazing! Sure, his class is challenging and he makes you work for your grade, but that is college! College isn't supposed to be easy, its higher education, and he prepares you for that! He is a caring professor who has a true passion for history. Very knowledgeable and kind-hearted man. I enjoyed his class.
One of the best profs i've ever had. He is still #1 in lecture performance and is truly on another level. I had to really work for an A; even read the entire txtbook. It's not an easy class, but is one that makes you think and understand history beyond any hs class. Though he expects participation and can be demanding, he's one of the greats at TCC
He has amazing lectures and really knows how to make sense of history using real life examples. He is extremely qualified due to his extensive knowledge about this subject. He is very well respected and is capable of teaching at any institute of higher learning. Every student should take his course to absorb his powerful lectures and life lessons.
I took his 1301 and 1302 class. He's tough and you have to work for your grade, but you'll get a lot out of it. If you want to learn history take him. If you want an easy A, take someone else.
This is not your normal history class. Professor hollinger will tell you the truth with some good stories. He is so inspirational and so passionate!! He has like 600 extra credit points and you need to get 400 to make an A. His tests are hard, essays are a great way to learn and take home tests are going to be your best friend. ID TAKE IT AGAIN!
I enjoyed Professor Hollingers lectures! if you do not study in his class you will for sure fail. To me his test were difficult, but managed to still pass thanks to the extra credit!
He is understanding and teaches you not just history but good life tips as well.
Usually is unclear when he answers an email. It takes a day for him to reply. Don't email on the weekends and expect a reply before Monday. His assignments are confusing and sometimes written poorly, so it is hard to understand what he wants done. A LOT of essays so make sure to stay ahead so that you don't run out of time. Easy quizzes/tests.
Professor Hollinger's lectures are simply incredible, and put US history into an entirely different perspective which you won't find in a typical high school history course. He also relates history to your own personal life and teaches you valuable life lessons. This is not an easy class, but it's very rewarding. Would definitely recommend him!
The tests were very hard especially since there is no real study material for them and his lectures didn't really help either. The saving grace is the amount of extra credit he has, but make sure you read the syllabus about the requirements!! You'll definitely work for a good grade, but it is attainable.
Do the extra credit and you will be fine.
Mr. Hollinger seems to be a very good professor. The class was not difficult and of you read what you were supposed to you will be able to pass the tests no problem. The only problem i had in the class was a grade on a final paper. The paper was graded poorly because he disagreed with a comment I made. It was purely opinion based. fine otherwise.
Mr. Hollinger's class was definitely one of the most challenging I've ever been in, but it was 100% worth it. If you work hard and actually do what you're supposed to then you WILL pass the class. He is the only professor I've ever had that tells it as it is & I loved it. His lectures are inspiring and you can tell just how passionate he is
He gives really good lectures but in order to pass you have to listen and be attentive in class
Very interesting lecturer! He teaches history like a story. My class was at 0630 and I stayed awake to listen to hi, lecture. Not boring. Lots of extra credit opportunities!
He is a History teacher trying to teach English. 2/5 online. Do not take his online classes.
Professor Hollinger's classes are challenging but rewarding. Though his teaching style takes some adjusting, the course content is engaging. Unstuckstudy AI proved helpful for exam prep alongside the textbook.
