Dr. K is awesome! He is full of energy and explains things very well. His tests are rather easy but studying is necessary. Just going to class won't cover all of your bases, you do need to read.
very animated & interested in what he teaches. tests aren't hard if you go over notes & readings.
He made this class so interesting and he is a very easy going teacher. He's got a great personality
his tests are really hard
dr karpinski is a great professor. he makes the subject material very clear and presents information in a strait-forward manner. if you are an undergrad, you should take him. he helps you in all the right ways--journal articles, extra credit. he's a good guy!
Dr. Karpinski is soooo great. Anyone who has a chance should take him. He definitely makes sure his students understand everthing he teaches and applies it well to everyday life. He also is interesting to watch. He's a fun guy. He's the best psych teacher I've ever had in any field of psychology.
you have to study for his exams, but that's to be expected - good professor and can keep your attention even though you're sitting in a lecture

Karpinski is the best psych prof I ever had! He makes the material interesting and fun to learn (and I had him 1 day 3 hours straight in CC ). He mainly lectures and initiates discussion. His tests can be difficult but he offers extra credit and helps you as much as possible. I ended with a 98 in the class. Take him, you'll actually learn.
I cannot stand him!!!! he is like extra skitzo the way he cant stand still for like 2 seconds. He doesnt hardly do n e work. his TA grades all the papers and tests and shes a ****. definitely wouldnt take him again
K's a very concise lecturer. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. He's quite nice about it. The tests require you to read, but the text isn't hard to get through. The only problem you might have with his class is the TA. Depending on who he/she is, you might get a 50% on a simple 2 page paper, and K won't change it. Doesn't curve.
He explains meterial clearly. Slides are helpful. But you still need to read the textbook. Generally, his class is good and he grades fairly.
Great Professor..had him for social psych..he made the class interesting everyday. Only downside is that the TA grades like everything and that can be a pain.
I barely went to my 8:40 class since he didn't take attendance. There's alot of reading, notes, textbook, and articles! and his tests are super hard class averages are aound 70's and he doesnt curve! nice guy, hard morning lecture though.
The first class I actually enjoyed! Karpinski is a great lecturer and his tests/assignments are fair. This is the only class that I attended each lecture, in CC 3 hours!
Good professor, good lectures, good tests. Once got an unfair grade from a TA, but couldn't get it changed... everyone was complaining about the TA's attitude and grading. Otherwise, interesting class.
Good guy. Awful class. Tests are ridiculous, no prep/review. Talks fast and does not go back over. This class decimated my GPA. Class was potentially interesting, but he ruined that. Tests were insane, articles were plentiful and rarely interesting, and weekly/bi-weekly assignments added to the "fun" is such a bogus class. Thanks for nothing!
I completely disagree with the last comment. The class was great & the reading materials, though a little excessive, were all helpful in learning and extremely interesting. Attend class and you'll do just fine. I would recommend this class if you're interested in learning about the mind... otherwise, you are going to waste your time.
Good course..excessive readings. Lots of material so learn to balance it all. Print out the sheets for discussion and DO them. TAs are strict with what they want in assignments so beware.
Great professor. Very interesting and he is loaded with energy. I wished he taught classes other than psychology because I would definitely take him again.
you only have to go to lecture if you don't want to miss a lecture quiz but class is easy and straightfoward. he teaches right from the books. tests were 50 mc questions. the three midterms and the final were all worth the same amount and he drops your lowest grade. so if you do really well on the 3 midterms you don't have to take the final.
Good professor, would recommend and take again. Very clear in lecture, good at explaining things and good energy. Moderate amount of work and a lot of reading but not bad.
Had him before and he's still pretty good. Enjoyed this class as much as the Workings of the Mind class he taught last year. Fun and energetic professor, knows his stuff (of course) but makes it interesting and understandable.
Karpinski was a good teacher but very goofy. He's an upbeat guy who seems to enjoy teaching and is very lively. I recommend him
Dr. Karpinksi is an AMAZING professor!!! He really keeps you excited about every topic and teaches such fascinating aspects of the mind that one would never think of! His tests are pretty difficult and definitely take a lot of effort studying. I ended up with a B+ for the course but I have to say that I've never learned so much in one course.
I enjoyed his class, the tests were hard but no impossible. Good dude.
The class wasn't easy, but it was interesting. He literally puts almost everything he has ever taught on his test, so you need to make sure you study. Really nice guy though, and the material is very intriguing.
I dropped my psych major, but his class was incredibly interesting and taught me a lot of useful things about the human mind.
Effort needed but overall great class
Great teacher
Sooooo much better than Nicole Noll. Do not take her, take him.
Workings of the Mind is a very challenging class. The readings require some effort, but can be very interesting and are the type that you wind up talking about with friends afterward. The tests are VERY comprehensive. You really have to absorb the material and focus just on what you're weak in before the tests. Long answers Qs can be very hard.
Horrible professor, very boring, does not even try to be funny at all. His voice is very monotone.
He was a great teacher. I looked forward to his class every day. It's easy to tell he's a cool guy. The class is easy. You have to do some reading but I passed with hardly doing any of it. The class itself blew my mind. Take it.
This class is so incredibly interesting, even if you aren't a psych major. Karpinski is so passionate about the subject which makes it all the more fun. Tests are easy if you study, doing the readings is essential and there is a paper due every week. Definitely worth the work though. I totally recommend him!
Nice enough guy. His test are just awful. Just don't take the class.
This class is so cool. If you need a human behavior gen ed, I highly recommend that you take workings of the mind. Karpinski knows so much and is very patient towards students.
This guy doesn't care about students honestly. He just plain sucks and is a
Doesn't elaborate and his powerpoints are just a picture with a title and he expects you to take note of graphs. He talks very fast but never really discusses the topic at hand (on the powerpoint). Overall he sucks as a professor and his TA's are no help either.
Took Psych 816 this fall semester. Its a tough class in the sense where you really have to put in the effort of doing assigned readings and paying attention in lecture. However, overall this class was definitely interesting and really changed my perspective on self-awareness, consciousness, and perception.
Interesting class! Clear Dr. K is very knowledgeable and interested in topic. In lectures not much is on the slides (pictures, graphs, & keywords), so you need to pay attention to what he is saying and write it down. He can talk fast but will repeat things if asked. Loves it when asked questions. A lot of small written assignments due in recitation
Dr. Karpinski means well; however, the class is confusing. IMO it was way too much work for a GenEd. Study the objectives for the day for exams and do well on the weekly quizzes and writing assignments if you want to succeed in this course.
By far the worst GenEd I have ever taken in my 4 years at Temple. Too many assignmentsreadings. Tests are impossible and give you no chance at getting a decent grade
His test were a bit confusing and some of the stuff we were learning was also confusing and not clear. Honestly the readings where just long and mind numbing. He seemed like a nice guy though.
Dr. Karpinski is extremely high energy and cares about the performance of his students as long as they are equally committed to doing well. Lectures are heavily based in note taking as his slides typically contain minimal information so get ready to write. Never be late to class, pay attention, and review the material to ensure you do well.
He was one of my Intro to Psych professors and he was amazing. I loved the way he taught his material. He puts very minimal words on his slides and either a photo or video to explain the topic he is talking about. He is an interesting guy and he definitely knows what he's talking about! I would definitely take him again if I had the chance!
Andy is one of those teachers that you enjoy listening to in lecture. He makes lectures pretty easy to understand and makes jokes along the way which is always fun. Pay attention in class and take good notes because you'll need them for the class. Also keep up on the readings as much as possible (they're usually pretty long)- they'll be on the test
Dr. Karpinski is one of the best professors I've had so far. His class is fascinating and I like his style of teaching. The tests are only difficult if you don't study, and don't do the weekly readings. However, getting a good grade in his class is definitely possible. Would definitely take this class again.
He was a good professor. Only take this class if you are interested in Psychology or have taken some type of psychology beforehand in High School or something otherwise you may have a tough. There are 4 exams. Weekly recitations. It is pretty interesting if you like Psychology. His lectures are pretty clear. He's always ready to help.
Professor Karpinski was a awesome teacher, always made class interesting, the downfall was that his tests were in possible for the course Workings of the Mind. I studied a month in advance for each exam and did poorly on all. Recommend taking a prior psychology class before this one.
Dr. Karpinski's classes were lecture based with minimal info on slides. Tests are fair but a bit difficult. Assignments and quizzes are given each week, but are really easy if you do the reading. Gives extra credit. High in energy and loves what he teaches. I'd recommend taking a basic psych. class prior to this considering it is in depth material.
Awful class. Biggest mistake of my life. Was too much reading, too much work for a Gen Ed. Tests are beyond difficult and i studied beyond enough. Easily the hardest class I've ever taken and put too much work in this class wasting my time. I advice you stay clear of this class. It blows.
This was honestly the easiest class of my semester. I literally didn't even show up for the lectures, just the recitation and I got a solid B. I'm not saying you shouldn't show up, because i probably would have done a lot better if I had gone to class, but you can probably afford to miss a day or two. Just make sure that you go to recitation.
Most people in Karpinski's class don't read to material because there is admittedly a fair amount of it. I read the material and got A's on the test. His lectures are somewhat long and dense if you don't have an interest in psychology, but he does his best to make them interesting.
Dr. Karpinski is a hard professor but as long as you do the readings in the course, take very detailed notes on the readings and do the written assignments and quizzes, you're going to end with an A. His tests are tough but follow what I wrote above and you're golden. Overall a great professor, but be prepared to work!
His lectures are interesting but he takes awhile to get to the point. It was a pretty hard Gen Ed but as long as you show up to lectures and read the textbook, you will be fine.
Karpinski is a great teacher who really tries to open your mind. There are a lot of readings. Personally, I read almost everything and the class is an easy A.
Dr. Karpinski was a great professor. He is very qualified, being a social psychologist, so he knows what he his talking about. His lectures are interesting and informative and they do a great job to reinforce the material covered in the readings. The readings are very interesting, just make sure to do them and you'll do well in the class.
good lectures but a lot of work for a gen ed. wouldn't recommend skipping lectures or not doing the readings because the course is based on everything combined. the tests are difficult even if you study for them. probably wouldn't take this course again but the material is very interesting.
Very interesting class that makes you think about things that you typically wouldn't think about. Lots of readings- Do them because they're on the test. Don't skip lecture because the tests are mainly based off of them and he doesn't post ppts. Take notes and remember examples he gives. 1 assignment per week and 4 tests in the class. I'd reccommend
This was an amazing class! Just be sure to read the textbook and follow the study guides he provides. If you pay attention in lecture and take notes on the readings, you can get high grades on the tests for sure. There are weekly writing and reading assignments, but the quizzes are open note and the written assignments are graded fairly.
In my opinion, way too much work for a GenEd class. If you miss a lecture you might as well plan on getting the highest of a 90% on the exam. Discussion sections are once a week but you take a quiz in every class so dont miss. I wouldn't recommend taking this class to anyone that doesnt enjoy reading 10+ pages a night
If you're looking for an easy gen-ed with no effort, this isn't the class. Every week in recitation there is a short essay due and a quiz on the required reading of the week. The worst of each is dropped at the end. The tests aren't too bad but make sure to study from the start because if you do well on the first 4, you won't have to take the final
Karpinski is a phenomenal professor! He always finds a way to make lecture fun. Time management is key for this course, so do the readings and written assignments accordingly. They prepare you for the exams! Also, his exams are like a game and all MC. Once you know his format, you will know the right answers to pick. Would take him again, 10/10!
For a Gen-ed, this was a lot of work. There is a quiz and short essay due every recitation, and a reading for mostly every lecture. If you miss class, you cannot rely on the power points because they only contain single words or pictures that would be useless. Don't buy the text, its online. Take this class if you plan on taking intro to psych.
I really love him. i find his lectures really interesting and just fascinating. I have learned a lot in this class and he makes it kinda fun. There are 4 exams and he drops the lowest of the 4. Lots of hw every week but its all very easy hw. He drops a lot of points at the end so if you dont get an A in this class something is wrong with u
Prof Karpinski is pretty cool. a lot of material in this course was largely abstract and philosophical so i probably would've had a better grasp on it in an in person class but it's interesting nonetheless. There's a ton of reading and it can be painful to get through but this semester (fall 2020) is open note which is nice.
Professor Karpinski is very passionate about his work and what he teaches. This course is perfect for anyone who wants to LEARN and get the MOST out of their education. Do not take this class if you are not about it because you are simply not going to pass. You need time and effort for this class. You need to snap out that "easy gen-ed" mentality.
Lots of lecture vids & notes. Super long readings. He provided the material well, but so much work needed to do good in the class.
Professor Karpinski is an amazing guy that is very knowledgeable. He, and the TAs, are very enthusiastic on the subject and Im sure you are going to learn ALOT. Please do not take this if you arent serious with your studies because he provides a lot of work that you wont be able to makeup unless with a valid excuse. On this note GL!
I loved this class! I wont lie, this class does take a lot of work but if you are actually interested in this topic you will love it. I ended up with a 100%! He gives out extra credit opportunities & you only have to take the final if you feel like it will help your grade. As a psych major this class reviewed lots of previous psych material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He doesnt even let you see your own grades. He tells you your grade after an exam. He gives so much readings and we have to read it in a span of 3 days. Not to mention, theres a quiz every week. Hes not even accommodating either, he does not accept late work at all. Youre lucky if you get a one day extension.
Tough grader when it comes to test its best to study by knowing the answers to all the objectives, because he makes the test hard, it is all short answers. As long as you do the readings the quiz is easy and then their weekly written assignments.
Made his points straight forward, outlined what we need to know for the exam, focused on the exam information
Annoying. Poorly explains things, does not prepare you well for the exam. Very unprepared and late consistently.
this class is heavy on lectures and reading. it is a very difficult class and you never see the professor. his class is not easy and i have tried almost everything to study for the exams. you only have an hour to answer 35 short answer questions and on some exams there are multiple parts, so there is not enough time. there are quizzes every wk btw.
Professor Karpinski is a very smart man who clearly cares a lot about the material. Extremely interesting class, changed how I think about a lot of things. A lot of reading, but it's interesting so I didn't mind. All the tests and quizzes were open note so take good notes and you'll be fine.
professor karpinski was super nice in his lecture videos and very clear. it is obvious he is extremely intelligent and passionate about this course. you definitely have to do the readings (and there a quite a few), but it's worth it because they are really interesting.
Horrible just horrible. For one he does not let you see your overall grade in his class until after each exam. 2. If you are failing and do his extra credit, his extra credit wont count for you final grade. 3. For this to be a Gen Ed, his class was way too difficult to understand. 4. His exams are way too hard to pass even if youve studied weeks
He's an okay professor but the way he does things are extremely nonchalant. He gives lectures on readings to further our understanding of it but the exams barely cover what he talks about. He would say he reference the objectives in the modules but even if you studied based on the objectives, he would make the question seem like you didn't study.
I do all the readings and watch all the lectures. Reading around around 25-40 pages each week. Lectures gloss over readings. I've taken psych, philosophy and neuro and somehow the exams are still so hard. Readings on quiz each Wednesday (timed). Exams involve 30sih short response Qs in an hour. I get so stressed out during exams.
Do not take this course! I can tell that he knows the information extremely well however, he does not do a great job of teaching it. He goes by lecture so fast and it's incredibly difficult to understand the key concepts at his pace. The exams are incredibly difficult and the study guides are absolutely no help. I like the TA's better.
learned a lot but be prepared to study
I really enjoy the content of this course, but there is just way too much work per week as a gen ed class. Readings can be up to 40 pages per week and they are pretty difficult to understand. Exams are difficult and grading in the class is strange. Professor Karpinski is helpful in lectures, but its not enough.
the way the class was set up, you have to attend fo the quizzes that make up a good portion of your grade. and its like alot of lecture hours and reading. its like 100 min a week of videos and then the readings would probably put it at 3 hours of study a week...
Expect to write an essay every week, take a quiz every week, take 4 long exams during the course, and read textbooks, articles and listen to 2 hour long online lectures every week. I've never met Professor Karpinski since he only does online lectures, but he seems like a nice guy. I took this class as a Gen-ed, but don't take it. Just don't.
Do not take Workings of the Mind unless you LOVE Psychology. There are weekly quizzes, 2hr online lectures(you never meet him), and the 4 exams make or break your grade. Karpinski wasn't accommodating towards students, even in an event of a medical emergency. I took this as a gen-ed...don't take unless you want to spend 6+hrs a week on this course.
This is the worst professor at Temple University. I was interested in learning psych a lot, but he made it very boring. So you basically just watch his pre-recorded videos and take an in-person Quiz every Friday while also taking Exams every 3 weeks. He never replies to emails when you ask him for help and lacks knowledge about the topic he teach.
Asynchronous online course with mandatory team meetings, a heavy workload for gen-ed. Karpinski does not allow makeup regardless of the situation. Modules are very informative and work-heavy (30+ page reading, 3+ hrs lecture videos per week). Good as a psych intro but take the course only if you have a lot of free time.
thank god i'm a senior in psych because he goes very fast through pretty tough concepts,, i really enjoyed the course but i felt bad that the course load was so tough
Absolutely amazing class and professor. This is my favorite class I have taken so far and would 100% recommend. Grading was very fair. Only downside to this class is that there is a lot of readings, around 30 pages a week, but the readings are always very interesting to read. Lectures are genuinely entertaining and interesting.
Karpinski definitely likes what he teaches, but his lectures are incredibly confusing, and yet, you have to pay complete attention or else you'll miss something that'll be like half of an exam, the only saving grace is that he drops the lowest exam score
mediocre guy, class was an easy A but at what cost. The class did not really help me with my career choices in psychology, and a lot of the assignments felt long and pointless. fine class though, just a little annoying
Careers in psych wasn't very useful to me as I didn't find it particularly helpful with my future career options. The guest speakers were a nice touch and I learned a little about cover letters. It's a one credit course with weekly assignments that take longer than they should.
Karpinski loves the content he teaches and works so hard to make sure others in his class love it too! There are so many opportunities to boost your grade. The content is interesting but also challenging in the best way and the tests are non-cumulative on the readings that have been assigned. Would totally take this class again!
This class was just a waste of time. Prof. Karpinski is fine but the material felt useless. I didn't feel like there was any real opportunity to learn about potential career options/explore more about the psych field. Tbh after the first few weeks I didn't go to the class the rest of the semester. Do the few assignments on time and you'll be fine.
Class was complicated for me, just always know what the words mean AND how to apply them and you will be okay. I learned so much from this course it is actually pretty awesome. Weekly written homework & quizzes. Just focus on passing the exams as they count for a lot of your grade. Overall, if you want to expand your mind, take this course.
I didn't care for the class, but Dr. Karpinski was pretty good. Extremely clear grading and I only skimmed material and got A's on all exams, 100 on everything else. He is very passionate and seemed upset when the class didn't do well. I would definitely say he is a bit quirky, but he knows what he is talking about and was easy to listen to.
Professor Karpinski is an amazing professor. The textbook is FREE. He is so kind he downloaded the textbook for us. If you believe he gives a lot of homework and a lot of work you are just lazy. Everything we have learned has open my eyes and I craved for more knowledge after every class.
Professor Karpinski's class is challenging but engaging. The lectures are dense, so staying focused is key. However, the open-note tests and quizzes make studying more manageable. unstuck study was a helpful tool for preparing efficiently.
I love Professor Karpinski! He is a sensational professor and you'll learn so much in his class. He truly is one of a kind and a character everyone should meet once in their life. His class was interesting, and his passion for psychology truly shows through his teachings. I loved his lectures, I learn so much. 100% would take again and recommend!
One thing about him is his study guides... those, things don't help. I have been on the dean's list for all my semesters until this semester, since I got a C-. He's very passionate about his work but I don't think he knows how to give exams and study guides and that sucks because your grade heavily relies on that.
If you're a Temple student take Workings of the Mind with Professor Karpinski , one of the best thought provoking courses I've ever taken. He's very smart and has good grad student leaders. Everyone involved is very organized and I loved it.
I would not recommend taking Workings of the mind with Karpinski. You're graded on three things (papers, quizzes, and tests). His "study guides" are not helpful at all. His papers are impossible to get an A on, as he grades it either an A, B, or F. Avoid this class if you don't want to work your ass off.
I don't recommend WOFTM with him! It takes more than just studying to pass this class. Although his lectures are very thought provoking, his way of grading is difficult! Hardest class I've taken, not because its hard, but because content that is on the exam almost never matches what's on his "study guides". Which by the way are just objectives.
Very passionate and amazing teacher with an extremely interesting class. There can be a lot of reading, but he mostly goes over it in the in-person lectures. The weekly writing assignments are the only writing you have to do for the whole semester, and the weekly quizzes are short and easy. I would 100% recommend taking the class.
the professor isnt that bad like I would take him again if I had to but I wouldn't actively seek him out. The class itself I wouldn't recommend at least not as a gen ed. It was honestly a lot of work for a gen ed in my opinion. There was a lot of reading and you had a written assignment to do almost every week.
