His lectures are really interesting, but you will not succeed in his class unless you read the textbook. Try to stay on track will the readings because they are lengthy and can pile up. He is clear on grading and what is expected, but he does not explain certain processes well. Overall, he is one of the best professors here at emory.

The class isn't incredibly difficult, no harder than an AP in high school, but it is relatively harder than a lot of classes; attendance and some reading is pretty much essential for an A. Psych 110 has a wide range of concepts, which means that it's going to be difficult, but Kazama gives so many methods to help study and learn the material in the best way possible. Fantastic course. I learned so much about PTSD as well as how to read and review scientific papers. This course is super good prep for graduate school, but be ready to commit a decent chunk of time to the course. There are two papers a week where you review scientific articles, but he rewards with easier exams so you will likely get an A or high B

Although there is a lot of work you have to do for the class, as long as you pay attention to lectures and keep up the reading you'll be fine.

Professor Kazama is such a gem. Would definitely recommend him! His class was content heavy but he is so inspirational, passionate and always willing to help.

Dr. Kazama is truly an amazing professor. He genuinely wants every one of his students to succeed and makes himself very available outside of class. It is a very challenging course, with a ton of material, but it is one that you will feel very accomplished to have completed. Can't say enough about how inspirational Dr. Kazama is!

While the professor is evidently kind and passionate about the course material, the course involves lots of information and memorization. However, the professor WILL meet with you outside of office hours to go over various study tips and tricks. At the end, this course changed the way I process information and study. So yes, take this course.

Dr. Kazama has a lot of students, but he cares about helping each one learn and understand not only the information but also how that information can be applied outside of class to better your life and study habits. If you took AP Psych, the information is very similar (though I would still study and go to office hours-- it's a lot of memorizing).

I was skeptical when I learned our final grade came from 3 exams, but Dr. Kazama completely changed the way I study and learn. He was an amazing lecturer and demonstrated active learning that I utilize in other classes and readings, and he taught us study techniques that improved my learning--and grades--exponentially.

Kazama is a phenomenal lecturer whose PowerPoints add a lot to the lecture experience visually. He's great at explaining things in a way that will help the information stick in your mind, and he can be very funny. His tests can be difficult and considering they're your only grades you definitely need to study, but Kazama is definitely worth taking.

This class will allow you to learn so much more about the brain and how it functions.

Kazama is a very solid choice --lectures are motivational, informative, and do a great job of tying everything together. I recommend him highly. Only complaint is that he sometimes really stresses concepts that are easy to understand but rushes through more complicated things, that show up in great detail on the exams. Dr. Kazama really cares about his students and their learning - he stresses memory techniques to help with the amount of material. If you follow the Rules of Halves schedule (20ish minutes a day) and take notes on the textbook the tests are super doable. You definitely have to put in work but you will learn a lot and Dr. Kazama wants to help.

Dr. Kazama's psych 110 course was one of my favorite classes taken at Emory. He truly cares about his students and what they learn from the class, not necessarily the letter grade. His tests are very hard but not impossible if you work on it and USE HIS STUDY TECHNIQUES! Make sure to go to the lectures and take good notes!

I took this class at 8:30 am and the students were more engaged than most of my other classes because of how interesting he makes the lectures. I am not a science person but Dr. Kazama makes even the neuroscience details applicable to daily life. You have to study to get a good grade.

Follow the rule of halves and you'll be fine. My 2nd test grade was 12 points higher when following this rule. I cannot speak more highly of Dr. Kazama.

Great professor but need to work for your grade. If you don't take the class seriously then get ready for a C-F. If you ready and understand lectures, you'll get an A

Be prepared to stay on top of things and read assigned textbook readings before class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't attend class don't expect this to be an easy A. Grade is based only on 2 midterms and a final. Follow his study techniques and you'll be fine. Lectures are engaging and he is accessible outside of class - be proactive.

He's a great teacher, but this class is HARD. It's graded on three exams, and you should really follow his study schedule. Lecture-heavy, but not boring. Definitely your best option for PSYC110. Accessible outside of class, and he really cares about his students and their success. He definitely curves the exams- he doesn't want people to do badly.

Psyc 110 is a difficult class and covers a lot of specific material about the brain and behavior. Dr. Kazama's lectures were very engaging, funny, and easy to follow/understand. Not only does he teach you the material, he teaches you how to study the material on your own as well. Best class and professor I have taken at Emory hands down.

Dr. Kazama is the BEST professor there is. We started the semester regularly but due to the global pandemic, we had to convert to remote learning. Our remote lectures were still fun and interesting. In order to ease some of the pressure, Dr Kazama even allowed us to do small mini projects throughout the rest of the semester instead of having exams.

Dr. Kazama sincerely cares about student's learning and truly helps you succeed. His lectures are very engaging and while holding lots of information, he explains concepts well and ensures that students understand the material. He is a fair grader and his tests/assignments reflect the material well. Our semester was half online and it went great.

My experience in his PSYC 110 class was a little different from his usual class, because we transitioned to online class halfway through. The class is usually based on 3 exams but for online it was based on 1 exam and mini-projects. Definitely recommend

Fresh. seminar "Science of Study" Dr. Kazama made a point to show that he cared about each of us. Small class size allowed us to talk about topics and go on really interesting tangents. No tests-grading was based on a few group projects/papers that were clearly communicated and organized. Truly wanted us to learn& apply material not focus on grade.

Kazama is a great instructor! Half of my semester was in-person and he always keeps me engaged in class. The in-person exam wasn't that hard. The second half was remote, and he just didn't want to put too much pressure on us. He cancelled all exams and we only needed to coomplete fun projects. Would recommend him for in-person and remote!

Lectures are very inspiring and fun. There aren't many homework or quizzes, just 2-3 mini-projects/assignments, which aren't that time-consuming. Overall, the course is manageable although it requires some decent amount of studying since grades are mainly affected by exams. Exams have many trick-choices so be prepared for those!

This was taken in-person which meant that we did have final exams and midterms. Take good notes and stay engaged. He posted lecture recordings after class which made it super helpful for review. This is the type of class where you get out of it what you put in. If you attend office hours, engage in the lectures, and actually apply the material (just like Kazama says to do literally every class), you shouldn't have to worry about your grade. I would def take his class again if I could. He brings in his own stories to the class material and makes us do the same. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students. It is incredibly rare to find a professor that not only cares about you but tries to UNDERSTAND you. The tests are challenging but doable if you put the time into studying.

I really enjoyed this class! Despite it being at 8:30 he makes the lectures super interactive and interesting. He emphasizes test taking techniques that have really helped me. It definitely is pretty difficult for an intro course and is memorization heavy, so if you aren't looking to put in the effort I would advise against taking him.

Dr. Kazama is a great lecturer, unfortunately, no matter how much I read/rewatched lectures there were always questions on material that was in neither, and the tests overlooked a lot of key info. that most of us really studied. It's not the hardest GER by a lot, but make sure you have some spare time for this class.

The content is sometimes difficult if you're not a big bio person and taking this for the psych requirement like me. Dr.Kazama is a great person outside of the classroom and the TAs are really lovely but the course is WAY TOO HARD for an intro class. Although several extra credit opportunities, they barely help with your overall grade. Your grade is based on quest, midterm, and final. No review material and test a lot of details.

Cares about students

Dr. Kazama's lectures were very engaging and fun! His tests require a lot of memorization but they were generally very fair. But the midterms and the final take up about 70% of your grade so make sure to be well prepared for them.

I took the science of study freshman seminar and it was my fav class of the semester. Basically no hw no tests and your most of your grade is participation. The class was super interesting and lightened my course load. Kazama is nice funny and caring and knows his stuff backwards and forwards. Loved learning from him and his life stories. 10/10

I have no idea what he is talking all the time, so I think the part really matters is your lab group. He is absolutely a smart guy trying to explain things in a different way. Also, a lot of discussions on lectures with 100+ people.

Best professor I have had at Emory. Class has no formal exams/assessments, but Kazama encourages participation and discussion to gauge how much students learn. The research project in lab was a bit stressful, but the TAs and instructors are available all throughout. Overall, an amazing experience and glad to have taken this requirement with him!

There was always an explicitly stated purpose for why we had to learn each topic. Office hours was like a weekly study group, take advantage of it!

But I also gained study strategies that will help me through the rest of my time here at Emory and beyond. This class has also shaped me as a person. Dr. Kazama is the best professor I've ever had. He made it clear multiple times that he cares more about how you use this class to improve your life than about the actual content. He brings in personal stories for each lecture and literally gives you ways to memorize the information without trying.

BEST CLASS! It was definitely challenging but extremely rewarding. You learn how to dissect research papers and write peer reviews. Papers are due the day before each class and particiaption is mandatory. There are three exams for each section of the course. Go to office hours, they are very helpful. This class assigned about 1-2 sort review essays (3-4p each) every week. I know this sounds like a lot, but I'd say by the third essay I was pumping these out in an hour or less. He also teaches ways for you to study efficiently and would be useful for all your other classes. However the class is test heavy, most of your grade is going to be based on your quizzes and exams. Took it because of GERs and knowing he co-taught this class. would've taken this over and over again for the enriching discussions with peers & professors. lectures were phenomenal, covering a range of topics about visual culture. basically, the class was free group therapy where we discussed our feelings in a safe environment.

Took Kazama for my freshman seminar- TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN! He is kind, approachable, and genuinely wants you to succeed. A very down-to-earth guy who is open about his story and is passionate about what he is teaching. The class itself was chill since it was a freshman seminar, but we still learned so much and I am so thankful that I took it!

One of THE BEST professors at Emory. Dr. Kazama is knowledgeable, passionate, and very supportive of his students. Had him for both PSYC 190 and PSYC 110. As long as you keep up in 110, his tests are all MC and very reasonable.

Ik that writing this will prob not change anything since this is class is so sought after alr. I would prioritize this class during registration. I heard most of the seats were taken even before registration started. Extremely easy. Downside is its at 8:30. Lots to learn academically and in life. Sm respect for him as a person.

This freshman seminar is the most sought after for a reason. I had the privilege of taking this class with Dr. Kazama, who is one of the best professors I have had at Emory. The life lessons you will learn in this course will be invaluable to your academic and social performance.

Take his class. I never write reviews but this is a life changing professor. Even if you are not a psych major take his class. He will prepare you for test taking in such a transformative way. If you are.a psych major I can't imagine a better intro professor. Take. His. Class. Change your schedule make it work. Even an 8:30 he makes lectures fun.

Professor Kazama has a very clear syllabus that shows us everything that we need throughout the semester. The exams cover exactly what was seen in class. One week before the exam, he gave us a mock exam, which was really helpful, as the format was exactly the same as the real one. The class in itself is very interesting.

he really cares about his students, always making time to meet despite being really busy. go to his morning mediations (you really aren't gonna miss that extra 15 minutes of sleep), study for exams in advance, and pay attention in class. it's not the easiest course, but it's worth if if you want to really understand intro neuro and cognition.

Professor Kazama's class does a great job of preparing you to learn large amounts of material using effective and efficient strategies- but keep in mind that the amount of material can be overwhelming if you choose not to use the strategies. Take this class if you're interested in learning psychology and apply it to your own life- it'll pay off!

Kazama's class was actually my most interesting class. I woke up at 7:30 for his classes even though I'm not a morning person. He makes the material very engaging and applicable to the real world. His workload is super light. However, his assessments are solely based on what he says in lectures so attendance is important, but ofc not mandatory.

Kazama cares about seeing you succeed, and he gave me tips and advice that ACTUALLY stuck with me. He is caring and has a lot of funny stories. His exams were not entirely accurate with the most emphasized content in the lectures and slides and you should read all the slides, even what you cross off as not being on the test.

Kazama is amazing. Super engaging lectures and super kind to students. Wants students to apply the material to their own passions and keeps the class very active and fun. Some tests can be challenging but just make sure to study.

If you're wondering if Dr. Kazama is actually worth the hype, he absolutely is. This class is life changing and worth every paper and reading you do. He is knowledgable, kind, and works just as hard as you will if not more.

Professor Kazama is an amazing teacher and, more importantly, a great person. His lecture is not the easiest section of psyc 110, but the test-taking tips and study methods he teaches are as valuable as the actual content you learn as well. Dr. Kazama is a must-take professor at Emory, he cares so much about students and provides you with many skills to not just learn psychology but to be a better human being. His PSYC473W class is a pretty large amount of work but it is so valuable and you will become a great scholar in a short amount of time because of his support and feedback.

Emphasizes growth and learning more than the actual content. His lectures are engaging, and he doesn't round down because the average is “too high”. Very wonderful to have.

He is a good Prof. Grade is based on few tests but they are not too bad.

Kazama is a very good Prof. Not the easiest psych class offered. You will actually learn something though and will walk away with new study skills. Final grade is based off of 4 tests.

Dr. Kazama is one of the most caring professors I've ever encountered. His lectures are easy to digest and thoroughly cover exam content. He is very accessible outside of class. I recommend his office hours - they helped me a ton. Dr. Kazama supports his students and ensures they do their best! I cannot recommend his class enough.

Very enthusiastic and caring. Lectures were mostly interesting but certain concepts weren't explained in a super clear way. Midterm and final aren't very hard as long as you pay attention to lectures- though the slides are provided they are mostly pictures and don't include everything he goes over in class.

Dr.Kazama gives fantastic lectures but often offers questions in tests that were not instructed in class, so get ready to self-study and delve into the textbook.

Professor Kazama is the best professor I have had at Emory. He values all of his students equally and makes sure everyone understands topics by making analogies to simple examples from either his personal life or well-known examples. He is truly the best and makes you feel appreciated! Please take him if you have the chance!!!

Dr. Kazama genuinely cares about your wellbeing while giving you engaging lectures in class. His class is very reasonable and does not have a lot of work. Lectures are not recorded. You must take his class one time in your life!! He's truly an inspiration, my fav teacher, and my friend cried during one of his talks bc of the impact!

Dr. Kazama is a caring guy who's primary focus is the growth of his students. This grade for this class is 60% exams and 40% homework. I found the exams to be slightly difficult but doable, and the homework is essentially completion. I would recommend!

Dr. Kazama is AMAZING! I would HIGHLY recommend taking Psyc 110 with him if you have the opportunity to do so. He truly cares about all of his students and will make the effort to learn your name, despite it being a 170-person lecture. He is my favorite professor thus far at Emory. As long as you study, the tests are very doable. Take his classes!!

Hands down the best class i've taken at Emory- changed the way I think about concepts such as adversity, love, flourishing, and resilience. Get ready to do a lot of reflecting and introspecting outside of class- it is worth every second!

His lectures could be confusing and unclear at times. However, he is very caring and clearly passionate about what he teaches. Instead of a textbook, he uses ChatGPT to generate practice questions.

Kazama is one of the nicest professors I've had at Emory. His class was challenging, and studying involved a ton of memorization. I also didn't go to class (dumb decision), so if you actually go, I'm sure the difficulty won't be like what I experienced. That said, I could still get an A with very few classes attended.

Kazama is great! His dad-like humor makes 8:30am classes fun. He tells you what you need to know and how to study it. Assignments are graded on completion & exams carry the most weight. He cares about his students & is accessible outside of class. Take notes, go to office hours if you need, study how he tells you to, and you'll do well!

This class itself regardless of the professor is tough due to the amount of concepts within it. That being said, Kazama makes sure you learn those concepts well and are truly able to apply them. His approach with AI guarantees you will learn how to use it well in an educational way. His classes are worth the 8:30am start time.

I took his class last semester and I am still thinking about how impactful it was. Kazama makes a baseline psych class into an opportunity to inspire his students to be grateful for the life they're living. His test-taking tips are still useful for me to this day and his mnemonics and memory palaces helped so much. He's the best take his class!!!

Amazing class and very caring professor. His class is really fun and you will learn a lot. People did bad on the tests but I didn't think they were that bad. Studied for a few days and did fine. There is a lot of content. It is basically an early neuroscience class and you will learn a lot of the same stuff as NBB 201.

He's such a wholesome professor! He's accessible outside of class (via email or office hours, which you need to attend to perform well on his exams), and he delivers interactive lectures that help you learn content quickly. Midterms aren't bad if you study for at least a few hours, and the homework is mostly note-taking/interaction with ChatGPT.

Although this class is at 8:30 it was one of the most inspirational and interesting classes I have ever taken. Always heard of Dr.Kazama as one of the best professor in Emory and finally got into his class in senior year. Totally understand why everyone love his class. He is very easy-going and care about his students. The class is super chill but also helpful for personal growth and learning. Dr.Kazama is never overrated.

Professor Kazama is a great professor who really cares about his students. Although his lectures are early, it is essential to attend them to succeed in the class. Outside of the lectures, there are only 3 exams that make up your grade. If you are looking to fulfill a GER while also learning something, this class is for you.

No one likes 8:30 classes, but this one is worth it. His overarching goal is to teach you to be a better human which is awesome. The class has a light workload and no textbook. The tests are easy MCQ if you attend lectures. Pretty digestible info even for non-majors. Not my favorite lecturer personally, but overall I enjoyed his class!

Dr. Kazama is a very articulate professor and cares about his students' understanding and is incredibly down to earth. PSYC110 in general is a very physiology/biology based class compared to PSYC111, so students do find it more difficult. Some may like/dislike, but he has HW mainly AI-based with minimal textbook reading.

He is a wonderful professor. His lectures are great, very informative and engaging. Unfortunately, I had his 8:30am class and near the end of the semester I never went, but his lecture slides are posted on canvas so it's easy to catch up. The exams rely on memorization so its possible to do very well if you study correctly.

An amazing human being and professor. Dr Kazama is inspiring and has a lot of insight on neuroscience and life in general. One of the most genuine people I've ever met and shows it to everyone. Super accessible outside of class and does one-on-one meetings if you need. It is an 8:30 but worth it. He explains concepts thoroughly and thoughtfully.

Dr. Kazama is great. He's accessible outside of class and is happy to meet with students and get to know them better. He personally emailed me after receiving a good grade, which I thought was really kind and validated my hard work. His tests are easy and the material is super interesting. I'm not a morning person but I would take his 8:30 again!!
