Easiest english class you will take.
kinda pompous
Awesome teacher! Interesting! Recommend him to all my friends
good grasp of history, critical thinking, makes shakespeare fun
No Comments
He is hard but you will know how to write when you finish his class
He only likes people who agree with everything that he says, and he grades those people easier. He is VERY arrogant.
He's fun, and he makes everything interesting. He gets really animated in his lectures. If you try and you read all the material, you should be able to get an A.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He has the perfect balance of fear tactics, and passion. There is a reason I took him twice, 1B was my favorite as it was less stressful, and twice as intense. Can I say pepper?
Prof. Lamers is excellent. I've had him for multiple classes and each one has been very fun and interesting. He is very helpful and informative on subjects.
I took his class last Summer and it was pretty easy, did all assignments the day before they were due. I can't comment on his helpfulness since I never asked for his help, but he seemed to be helpful to those that needed it.
His class requires work, but he teaches well. His class was fun and he was helpful. a little moody at times but usually cool. Don't play around in his class.
I had him for Shakespeare. The class was interesting, and I learned a lot. However, he can be somewhat arrogant. His grading comments can be blatantly rude and unhelpful… beware!!!
He is an arrogant teacher. If you don't agree with him you are screwed. Watch out for the quizes (do good they will screw up your grade). The essays are okay. he grows on you after a while.
I learned more about Shakespeare in his class than I have from all the teachers I've had at BC and CSUB combined. Take his class early in the morning -- he'll wake you up - you won't need coffee. A great teacher!
Intelligent and funny. He makes his expectations, grading policies, and general classroom rules very clear the first day of class and adheres to them fairly well. He will give you all you need to get an A. His was a class I personally enjoyed.
Rude & arrogant. Plays favorites. If you are not an English major, don't take him.
So a person below learned more about Shakespeare in this class than others at BC & CSUB combined? Duhhhh. I would hope. It is a class on Shakespeare. I didn't find him that interesting or effective.
Great teacher I recommend him to everyone and beg him to teach courses I haven't already had. Hasn't worked so far.
Professor Lamers seemed a bit arrogant and rude at times, but he is very knowledgable about Shakespeare. I would only recommend him for the strong willed; any weakness will be exploited.

teaching may not be his forte.
Not an easy class, but a great instructor with a dark wit!!!
He's an awesome teacher! I took him for 1A and it was seriously my favorite class, so I took him again for 1B. He's definately a "tell it like it is" professor, and I liked that. Discussions are always interesting and if you read, do the homework and everything else you need to do, you'll get an A.
Funny prof, very clear and helpful. Do the readings, spend some time on the papers, and you'll get an A
If you are not good at literature, he may not be that helpful. I really tired but felt humiliated.
awesome teacher. Makes the subjuct interesting and has a true love and understanding of the subject matter.
I LOVE Mr. Lamers. I learned more in his classes than in any other and his Shakespeare class especially caused me to step up my writing level. Take his classes!
(last time I put this under Heather, not Andrew) good teacher, very direct and to the point.... good stuff
MR. LAMERS IS A COOL TEACHER, HE IS A HARD TEACHER AS WELL. HE DOES NOT COMPLETELY EXPLAIN WHAT HE WANTS FROM HIS STUDENTS AND IS NOT VERY HELPFUL IN EXPLAINING YOUR MISTAKES.
This bad boy was a hip fella from the sixties that blew your mind with his witty dialogue and astounding clarity. If you are looking for an exquisite dish of instructor who adds in a side of trivia to the meal, this is the one for you.

Not that good of a teacher

Although he was a little "different," it was an interesting course. He was an easy grader, his quizzes and mid-term were easy, and most received an A in the class. I recommend!
I loved having Mr. Lamers. His class was always enjoyable and I learned a lot from him.
Very good teacher and made class fun. He would relate Shakespeare to todays world which made it a lot easier to learn. I would like to have him again for a teacher.
Absolutely amazing! i loved this class! I was intimidated for the first couple of weeks, but he tackles hard literature including a lot of poetry and shakespeare. I learned so much in this class, he is very intelligent and it shows.
Mr. Lamers class is one of the worse classes I've taken while attending B.C. Andy Lamers always preached about being on time and never being late but half the he was late himself. He came accross to me as being a real dick and I wouldn't wish anybody to take his class not even my worse enemy. **** that ****.
Prof. Lamers is an excellent teacher. He is very self explanitory when it comes to giving assingments. The only bad thing about him is attendance and a perfection in grading.
If you can't take it don't dish it. He is very funny and sarcastic. He won't pick on you, unless you ask for it :). He is a wonderful teacher. I really enjoyed the class.
I took 2 classes with Mr. Lamers several years ago when I lived in Bakersfield. The first time I had him as teacher, I fell in love with his class. The following semester I took another one of his classes just for fun. He is one the best professors I have ever had. He will make you work hard, though. Don't take his class if you want an easy "A".
He is arrogant and rude. He thinks he is the best English writer, but my question is what is he doing teaching at BC? To every one, PLEASE DON’T TAKE HIS CLASS.
the shakespeare class was great! he made it approachable and understandable. we basically would read the plays, and in class have some lecture and watch the movies. there are 3 papers, a midterm, a final, and quizzes. lamers is awesome and funny and really cares. even if you don't like shakespeare, or if you have to take the class, take lamers.
Yeah he's sooo hot. and definitely the smartest guy ALIVE! I'd totally marry him. His teaching is the best ever!
I have to be honest: Mr. Lamers can be intimidating. But you will eventually realize he has a great sense of humor and he actually does care about his students. I have gotten A's on everything I've turned in to him, so if you think he grades too harshly, perhaps you should try working harder next time. He definitely expects well-crafted work.
Proff Lamers...what can I say??? Well he was kind of funny. Got off topic a lot. Hes an ok teacher i maybe would take him again idk
I can't help but notice that those students who are whining about Prof. Lamers being too difficult or unfair seem to be from the lower level classes. Could it be that you guys just don't enjoy English in the first place so you're not able to see how passionate, and flat-out knowledgeable Lamers is when it comes to his subject? The guy is amazing.
Great guy, terrible teacher. Didn't get some of our work back at all, what he gave back was up to a month after we turned in the assignment. didn't really give any instruction, just talked all class period about the novels we read.
Not hard but not easy. Nice guy if your not a rude person. He is helpful if you allow him to be, and can learn a lot if you try. The KEY is trying.
He's a cool teacher, he just needs 2 stop being into himself so much. He talks off topic a lot, but he fits it all into class to where u can understand everything by detail. This guy sometimes even goes down a level so that u can understand what he's about to teach. Stresses you on the fee way to much but shows hes passionate. all in all great.
Professor Lamers is great. don't misuse the word "like", don't smart off, and just be yourself. He's the kind of professor you either hate or you love. I'm kind of torn in between. He's a great professor when it comes to struggling in the class, because he'll help you out without enabling you to be weak
He is a great teacher and knows what his materials are. He might be talkative sometime and rude but that is how he teaches. He will help those that need the help as long as they are willing to learn and help themselves out. Awsome teacher
Andy is awesome. He's funny, easy to relate to, and he really knows his stuff. He makes the class interesting, and is always willing to help. I really enjoyed this class and I wish I could take him again. He definitely pushed me to be a better writer, which I loved. I highly suggest taking his class if you like English. He's ace.
Good person but not good morning person. If you can try and get his afternoon class.
If you like listening to personal life stories instead of engaging with new, interesting material, this course is for you. Luckily I survived his boring lectures and I managed to pull an "A" without trying too hard. If you have the option, take English 1A with another professor! If not, you will miss out on the true beauty of English. DSMF
I hate this man. He suppressed my creativity and potential as a writer by not allowing me to express myself freely through the use of word. Instead, he was an oppressor that forced his style, his thinking, and his arguments into my essays. If you take his course, you must follow his script in order to succeed.
Why? Why did I choose this professor? I was a terrible mistake and I regret making it. How is this teacher even college quality? He makes no true effort to advance the quality of writing or analytical reasoning of his students. How does a random story about you playing Xbox help me become a better student? It doesn't.
Don't listen to the negative feedback on here. Professor Lamers is a great professor and I highly recommend him.
He is ignorant. everyday he comes to class 10-15 minutes late and is ok, but if you come to class 2 minutes late hell chew your head off and not fail you on a test. if you want youll learn in his class but not from his teaching abilities. i dont recomend this teacher.
Professor Lamers is the hardest professor I have ever taken! You definitely have to do the min pg requirements or you will not do well. He grades tremendously hard, & if it is not the way he likes it, then you'll do terrible. He's a nice person, but a VERY strict professor. Attendance is mandatory. I walked in class 2 min late & got a 0 on the quiz
I was surprised at all the negative comments! I'm not a fan of most of the professors at BC, but Lamers was great! He made something as boring as Shakespeare interesting and understandable. If you put in the work and effort, he will help you and you can pass easily. Lectures are key! And don't be afraid to use his office hours.
His class is REALLY fast and REALLY hard! Don?t get me wrong he is an awesome professor, but if English is not your strong point this class is not for you. I started falling behind really easily and could not keep up with his demands and all the work he assigns. Also, he is truly not really hands on try to help you understand the material. He just
I took ENGL B60 with Mr. Lamers during the summer, and discovered that taking a college English class during the summer is a challenge, specially in Mr. Lamers class. However, if you pay attention and ask questions He teaches you what you need to know and above all is a very educated Proffesor. Your Rock Mr. Lamers!!!!
Brilliant, hilarious, wants you to LEARN. If you want to put in effort and take a great course, take one with Lamers. By the end of the semester I think I had a crush on him, he's that smart/funny. It should be noted that this does not influence my appraisal of this class. Take him! Well beyond what you normally get at BC. Perfect!
He is a hard teacher and very strict. He is not someone who will make sure you understand the concept and will just move on to the next chapter. He is not hands on and does not give you lots of feed back.
Great teacher! The people who didn't like him in my class were the ones not doing their work and not trying in the class. He is very sarcastic and very smart. I learned a lot in his class and highly recommend him.
Prof; Lamers is an awesome teacher and an honest one.
Because I earned an A, insert generic praises here:__
Prof Lamers is an awesome teacher. Engl 1A is a backtracked class and very fast-paced, therefore he has to move on quickly. He's very funny and makes the class enjoyable. You have to put in a great amount of work, so if you take him, be ready for that. Oh, and get work done ahead of time, that will help you out a ton!
Mr. Lamers knows how to weed out students who don't have a drive to succeed. Very interesting person with heaps of knowledge to share. Great professor.
He likes to talk about himself a lot, he says he can make himself sound like a God in writing and he makes it seem like being a professor is below him. I plan n never taking a class with him again.
Prof. Lamers is not a horrible teacher at all.. The people giving negative feedback don't try in his class. He is very funny and sarcastic, If you actually try you will pass. Ask any questions for help although he is very specific when assigning things. Do work ahead of time too. I highly recommend him.
Prof. Lakers makes Shakespeare interesting. He is a no b.s. Professor who expects a lot from his students. He teaches this class like an university level course. You will learn a lot. Only "complaint" is he takes a long time to return assignments. Definitely recommend this professor.
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Lamers is funny and I learned a lot. I really thought Shakespeare would be hard to understand, but after the first play if was really easy. The assignments are tough, but not impossible. If you come to class and put in some effort you will do fine. Not an easy A.
Talks about himself his ex his wife his college days drinking doesn't get to the assignments. Did not enjoy his class So i dropped it.
Expects far too much for the coursework of b50
Expects way to much, and grades harshly. Very cocky, and has no sense of compassion. You can break both your arms, and he still expects a complete essay on date, no exceptions. If you want to pass this class study the highest English course for he will expect it. Even though your in the lowest English class. The mans a robot.
In order to pass this class you have to show up and do the work its as simple as that. Professor Lamers made the class interesting for me I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Mr. Lamers is a great professor. Those who rate him poorly just wanted an easy A, and Lamers does not give those out.
Very objective during lecture but will wonder off topic to keep students entertained. Well spoken and very fair.
He wasn't a horrible teacher, but he makes sure you know that you are inferior to him. Communication is key with him. He sometimes gives you a chance to make up an assignment you missed. And do not get on his bad side by not being prepared (no scantron during quiz day, blue or black pens during essay day, etc.) Honestly he somewhat helped me.
If you can get past his cocky self obsessed attitude then he's a great teacher. He knows what he wants and is very clear and helpful.
I've been at BC for almost three years, and in that time I have only come across three professors who truly care about their students - Lamers is one of them. He's not just there for a paycheck and to give you busy work. During just one of his funny, engaging lectures, I learn more about the subject and life than a whole course with any other prof.
Very no nonsense in class as it should be. Makes class time interesting though, and caring about his profession. Went to a one on one meeting with him and was pleasantly surprised at how kind he was and concerned.
A lot of people don't like his class because Lamers comes off as mean and strict. But he's actually a great teacher and cares about his job and students, but he's only there for the students who take the class seriously. Basically he's not taking anyone's bullcrap. He doesn't assign much homework and its easy to pay attention in his class.
Lamers himself is a little intimidating, but he's an amazing professor, especially for Shakespeare. Very funny, which makes most of his lectures interesting while still informative. Lots of reading, but nothing impossible. He communicates well with students. Def recommend.
he is straight to the point very cut & dry. if you go to class, pay attention, and do the work you will be just fine and receive a decent grade. if you're lazy and want an easy A, he isn't the professor for you.
He's more time consuming than hard. Either way he was an amazing professor. His class will improve your skills tremendously. I highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Lamers is a great English professor, and one that I would highly recommend to anyone that TAKES THEIR EDUCATION SERIOUSLY. He is very knowledgeable in his field and takes it seriously, as he should. Make sure you do your work and take an interest (this isn't high school anymore, kids) or you won't pass, surprise! One of my favorite prof.
Would not recommend. Yes he is very knowledgeable in his field, but that doesn't matter to me much when he is a complete ass half the time. He really likes people who agree with him and join in on his cocky comments about EVERYTHING. i worked very hard & Passed his class with a high C which should have been a B. Good teacher, horrible attitude.
Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to better their writing skills. It's a college class, of course it won't be easy. Tough grading? He gives you the grade you deserve, but gives a lot of helpful feedback and resources to improve your writing.
Professor Lamers definitely made English B1A an enjoyable class. As a student majoring in English, I appreciated having such a passionate and caring teacher.
He was alright I guess. The problem with him is he can be a jerk most of the time and he can also be a very strict teacher but other then that he does give good feedback on your essays and his lectures are very interesting and funny. If you like a teacher that challenges you, Lamers is the perfect teacher for that.
Ive heard many good things about him until I took his class. His attitude is AWFUL, VERY AWFUL. He is one of the most hubristic people Ive met. Hes very good in the subject and helpful but his behavior is just toxic that itll lower your morale. I DO NOT recommend him if youre emotionally unstable. It gets worse if you dont agree with him.
As an English major, all I can say is that he made me dread English class for the first time in my life. The material is interesting but his assignments are tough (keep in mind, B1A is a general course). The biggest thing that put me off was his self-importance. Got offended and blew up on a student for politely asking when he'd grade our papers.
I took his class in summer, english not being my best subject my first impressions for him were horrible due to his hubris and how the way he talked partially discouraged me. That said, he is very knowledgeable and gives ample amount of feedback on assignments. His class is not meant for those looking for an easy A, you will need much effort.
Professor Lamers presents a clear grading criteria and is always available for questions if you have them. I always asked questions after class and did quite well on my essays. He is very transparent with you on what he wants in an essay. There was only 2 essays and 1 research paper, and overall it was not that bad.
Good Professor but I would not recommend taking during the summer if you're taking more than one class.
I took his class and decided to ignore his personality and the fact that he continuously gets off topic. However, I had the worst experience Ive had while in college. He absolutely will not take assignments past due dates. So even if you screw up and turn it in after noon the next day it will not be looked at. I decided to not even finish his class
Honestly he was very tough on grading but he does state it at the beginning. Once you get half way through the class you get all the due dates of assignments. If you love reading and writing this class is for you.
Although Professor Lamers is a tough grader, he is clear about assignment deadlines and gives great feedback. If English isn't your first language, take another class. His assignments are quick paced and you need to purchase/rent four books. Read AHEAD and stay on top of the essays and you can pass. Writing Center will be your best friend.
He has an option that will be pushed on you and he gets very off topic during lectures. He gets very upset it seems if you do not agree with him on almost anything.
You will do a lot of reading and writing in his class which is expected in a english class. However, he is a tough grader, very strict with attendance and grading. I would take a different professor, he is a negative person, will make you dread english, and is very uncomfortable to be around. There are better professors and is a very toxic person.
the only class i've ever dropped. strong opinionated and can be rude. i felt like i could not keep up with this class no matter how much i tried. i did not enjoy my time in this class at all
Made me enjoy English for once. Fun lecture informational lecture but Mr. Lamers made it very clear on what he expected
He is a very tough grader especially on essays. I do not really recommend taking him, instead take another professor. On the first day of class I remember he told us that if our first language was not English, we would not pass and that made me drop out of his class.
He has a horrible attitude and is always praising himself saying he is better than you and everyone else. He encourages people to drop. He does give good feedback on essays on what you can improve on. I would recommend another professor.
Did this professor hit on anyone else? I felt like I couldn't go a day without an inappropriate comment or him gazing down my shirt. Went to the dean about it, not much was done. Just wondering if anyone else had the same experience.
Very rude, and does not admit when he is wrong or made a mistake. Not at all accommodating to to low income students unable to get financial aid. Treats adult students as if we are still teenagers.
Professor Lamers can be a tough grader, but his feedback is valuable. If you stay on top of the fast-paced assignments and use resources like the Writing Center, you can succeed. unstuck study helped me prep for essays and keep up with the class workload.
Those who do not like professor Lamers were mostly the ones who procrastinated, did not do the work assigned, or would not show up to class. Professor Lamers is humorous but strict in his classroom. This class is easy as long as you do not procrastinate on deadlines like I did for a while. Overall advice, READ YOUR BOOKS AND DO YOUR PAPERS ON TIME.
This class wasn't too hard just make sure to read all of the assigned readings and do everything on time, he can be rude at times and the class can get intimidating because mostly everyone drops his class but hang in there. I think by far the hardest assignment was the final paper but he prepares you for it the whole semester. Good luck!
Honestly if you're a big procrastinator like me you're cooked. I dropped out because I did everything last minute. Not a tough class honestly just lock in and do the work EARLY or on TIME. He gives you just enough time to do the work so I cooked myself not doing so. Funny dude for real great class conversations. Also could play real life Sindri.
The hardest class I've ever took, not for the weak! Later half of the semester about half the class ended up dropping. Definitely gonna be hard if you're a procrastinator, class is deadline heavy so turning stuff in on time is very important. Tough grader but also clear about what'll get you a good grade. Funny guy during lectures and discussions.
If there is other professors available, pick them.
His hostility towards disagreement and unpreparedness, discourages peer help and prioritize soapboxing over actual instruction. It is difficult to get anything useful from his lectures, as he goes off on the same tangents without teaching anything useful. He tends to centers class discussions around validating his own viewpoint.
rude, unnecessary cursing and kicked the entire classroom out just because we didn't ask questions about our exam lol 😭
