A good professor, friendly and seems to care about how students do. Tests combination multple choice and essay.
He gives review sheets with three essays and one wil be on test. Tests 15 multiple choice and one essay. Very easy. Don't have to know dates or minor details. Also shows interesting film clips.Does not take attendance, but just come to class and listen and you will make an A. Great teacher - Easy A
Awesome teacher, very helpful and easy A if you go to class. Plays video clips and songs to keep you interested and awake. Very noligable about history but not snobby. Would definatly recommend for His. 134.
great teacher. keeps you interested. very effective teaching. you actually remember what he says. cool guy
He's a nice guy, exam test are easy if you study(15 Multiple choice-1 Essay), book test were very easy(gives study sheets when you read the book and most questions revolve around that), very clear in what he says, you shouldnt have a problem if you go to class.
He is a good teacher, unlike most history teachers who just lecture and you have to take the best notes on your own. . .well he provides alot of powerpoints through his lectures and post them later on webct so you can use them to study for test. Take him if you get the chance.
Lannen trys really hard to keep the class intresting. For a history class it isnt that bad. As long as you do the reviews and take good notes you'll do well. The only grades are the 3 tests.
A good teacher that knows what he is talking about. He uses a power point so it's easier to understand and you dont have to just take notes. You also watch movies which are interesting. You only have 3 tests though (including the final) but they are multiple choice. Make sure you study though!
Not what that is
He is a REALLY great prof. He makes the material really interesting and he's also pretty hilarious. The tests are alright if you go do the vocab and the study guides for the books and then go through ALL your notes, it takes time but you only have 3 test grades so its worth it. I deffinately recommend him.
Am. Rev. Great class! Very funny guy! All essay and short answer tests, 3 paper, many books to read. overall, very enjoyable class!
The best professor I have ever taken at SFA. His tests and quizes are easy, he gives reveiw sheets that are the exact same as the test and quizes. Easy A and very entertaining.
Excellent teacher. Most helpful person ive met at sfasu. Was willing to work with me when i was out for medical reasons. i actually changed my summer courses so that i could take him again in the fall. I recommend him to anyone unless you dont like sarcasm about history.
I loved Mr. Lannnen's class!! He always had something interesting to go along with each lesson. Whether it was pictures, movie clips, songs, cartoons, class discussions, or class surveys. He is always very willing to listen to your questions or opinions and also very willing to help. I would definitely recommend him for any class he teaches.
Dr. Landon is exactly what one should expect from a professor and. He really gets you into the mood of history. Boring at first but the more you read it, the more interesting it gets, then you understand its importance and finally want to know more. SFA NEEDs more teachers, staff and general people like him.
I am not good in hist but he gets you involved and makes it easy for you to understand. Tests and MC and essay but fairly simple. He is great i would take him again .
Part Essay test! but not to hard part multiple choice! all power points during lecture!
Professor lannen is by far the best professor on earth. I never liked history but he shows power points and movies to help you understand. Hes very sarcastic in a funny way and makes me laugh. He's a mack daddy. Also, i just wanted to say "it is what it is" someone last year said "not what it is" well i say "it is what it is" professor lannen if yo
THIS CLASS IS VERY INTERESTING...ALTHOUGH ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY..NOT COMING TO CLASS WILL *FAIL* U. HE ASSIGNS MANY BOOKS TO READ, SOME ARE THICK (?'S ON TEST). HAS A GREAT SI-LEADER.IF YOU ARE IN A LECTURE ROOM YOU DONT HAVE A ESSAY, SMALLER ROOM HAS PART-ESSAY. Dont Buy the Book!! -NO EXTRA CREDit. TAKE HIM OR BEISEL!(she gIVES extra credit
Took him for 134 and 133 and he is THE best teacher at SFA. Seriously. The only good one, and Im a junior. So organized and its very interesting class. I learned so much. Thank you prof lannen don't change!!!
im not a history buff and i knew my notes inside and out but still made D's on my tests... his wording on the tests seem dificult to me but he's very interesting in his lectures... 3 tests and a noncomprehensive final... 3 novels...
LOVED him. Ive always hated history and never made above a C, he is easy and trys his best to make the class as interesting as possible. If you go to class you will do well. He gives key terms picked out for you to study out of the book for tests. Half of the test is essay (he gives the questions b4 the test), the other is multiple choice. TAKE HIM
I found myself dreading my entire Tuesday and Thursday schedules until that hour and fifteen minutes I went to history. Probably the best professor I've had, hands down.
G00D TEACHER. S0METIMES WORDS DIFFERENT ON TEST THAN THE NOTES BUT A GOOD TEACHER ORGANIZED AND INTERESTING IN CLASS! I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN...
VERY interesting and organized. His lectures are easy to listen to and he uses alot of media like music, pictures and film clips to make his points. One of the best professors i've had at SFA.
Easy if you show up for lectures and look up terms in book that are online for test. I didn't even read the novels assigned in class and got an easy A. You can easily share a textbook with a friend because all you need is keyterms not to read it.
Excellent teacher! Makes everything really easy to understand and remember. Best to actually go to class because he adds interesting side notes.
GREAT TEACHER! So friendly and helpful. Always upbeat and really made his classes enjoyable. I had so much fun in that class.
Try no to fall asleep
His class is so easy as long as you go to class, listen and take good notes. He funny and very interesting. All his tests come from his power points and they're even online. So if you read the assigned reading and listen you'll do great.
I hate history, it just bores me. He is very funny though. Puts powerpoints online for you, picks the shortest (and cheapest) books to read for quizzes, and gives a review before each exam. Final not comprehensive. Review includes picture and essays that are on test. Easy to cheat with a notecard & a smart guy beside you or the table beside you ;)
I struggled in this class at first because I wasn't sure what he was looking for. He uses a lot of pictures and videos and has a lot of interesting stories about the various subjects. Overall he's a good teacher. The tests are 50?s.... 30 lecture, 10 reading material, 10 textbook... no essays.
I dont really like history too much, but Professor Lannen really made it fun and interesting. He has powerpoints that go along with his lectures that really help, and you can do very light reading and go to class and easily get an A. Oh yeah the small books he has you read in class are actually interesting.
Great teacher!!!!!! He is very practical, easy, and makes it very pleasant even if you don't like history. He makes lectures interesting, he's approachable and very nice/funny. The only reason i made a low grade is personal reasons. You will learn a lot from his class and have a much better understanding of history. He is there to help you succeed!
Awesome professor. The only teacher that has ever made history seem interesting to me. I enjoyed this class. As long as you take notes or listen in class, do the test review, and read/spark note the books you will do great in the course.
Nice and fun teacher! Works well with his students!
Willing to work with you. Dont wait to the last two tests to do your essays, because more than likely you'll be strapped for time. He makes the class really interesting and fun!
Take him! All of his test are the same format. No treat questions on test becauses he goes over everything in class. You only have to write two essays each semester. Not a hard class at all!
Take Him!!! He made History so easy. His test are all the same format and he drops your lowest grade. Test are very easy. If you want to pass take him.
He is AWESOME!!! I've never understood history so well. He makes it sound more interesting and his test are easy but you do need to study a little. Learn how to interpret posters/picture from this time or what to look for, that will come in handy.
Great teacher, because of him I'm where I'm at today. One of the best professors at sfa, i'll never forget him.
Good professor. He provides a lot of material for students online. There is three book tests and four exams. No essays though, at least when I took it. Knows what he's talking about. The one con to this guy would be that he tends to monotone a bit. So if history isn't your favorite subject, maybe find a professor whose more eccentric.
I loved this class!! super easy his test is his notes and vocab but not alot of vocab. Class is not mandatory to pass, he doesnt ake role. he is very easy!!! TAKE HIM easy A!! and he has an SI he is so sweet and enjoys his job. i made an A easily
Attendance isn't mandatory, but GO TO CLASS. Tests are from lectures and doesn't use textbook very much. Only had to write 2 essays. Class was very interesting though, Dr. Lannen made US history not entirely boring. I would take him. Just study from his lectures!!!!
Professor Lannen is great! He is so helpful and makes history so interesting. The only thing you have to do concerning the book is the vocab and there aren't that many words. Only two essays and you choose when you do them. He is very approachable and if you do what he says, you make an A. I highly recommend him!
Really, really great professor. He's super nice and goes out of his way to make class interesting. Extremely approachable if you have any questions. Tests are about 25% multiple choice, 25% short answer, and 50% essay, but his grading on writing is pretty lenient. Probably my favorite professor of the semester, I highly recommend!!
Loved this man! I took him for honors history and he was so easy. You have to study and pay attention but nothing major.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR!!! He is such an amazing teacher!! I learned so much and was always very engaged and interested. I hardly had to study at all because he taught so well and I made an A easily! 5 multiple choice tests and 2 at home essays. I would recommend this class any day!
Friendly and a good teacher. Tests (MC, 1 short answer, and 1 essay) are easy. Essay questions are online so make sure you thoroughly outline the essay beforehand - they are cumulative. There are 3 easy quizzes over books (books are short). There're 2 easy group activities- make sure you reach the time limit. Overall, take him if you can! :)
He is an amazing professor..omg..take him if you can...he makes history interesting...loved being in his class...you wont even get bored...really wanted to take him for history 133 in the spring but he doesn't teach that what a bum!...anyways TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM
Great professor, would definitely recommend taking this class.
Amazing!! SO easy you don't use the book only when you are doing vocab, go to his class and take notes because everything that he says he uses on the tests. Really nice sweet guy. Take him if you get the opportunity.
Take his class at all possible. He has 5 exams and he drops your lowest grade and 2 essays pertaining to the class material. He makes history fun and easy.
Best history professor I've ever had. He is funny and makes history interesting, and I'm no history buff. He has 5 exams, and drops the lowest grade, but the exams are pretty easy if you go to class. Even the books he assigns are not a total bore. If you're going to take this course TAKE LANNEN. You won't get anyone better!
Take him! He is funny and makes it interesting and I hate history. I took him for a Maymester so it was set up differently than the normal semesters, but it was still easy. His tests are straight forward and comes from what he tells you in lecture. Loved him!
Professor Lannen's lectures are actually pretty great. I usually hate history, and he managed to keep my focus during lectures. He doesn't require a textbook, but he requires 3 novels (to keep the price low). His lectures were very informative- take lots of notes! He passes around an attendance sheet every class.
I looked forward to this class because his lectures were interesting and informative. Everything that's on the tests is straight from his lectures, so make sure to go to class and take notes. You'll have to read 3 short books and write 2 essays, but as long as you do it, it's an easy A. No textbook required.
I very much enjoyed the class. History is not one of my strong points, but Lanneb made the material interesting and understandable. He is very understanding. A friend accidentally sent half of a paper to him, and instead of failing her he let her write another. I took this class as a junior in high school and did fine. I definitely reccomend him.
He makes it fun, he really illustrates the history well
His class is very straight forward. He tells you at the beginning what you need to do in order to get a good grade, and honestly if you follow his instructions you will easily do well. I would definitely take him again. He does a very good job at getting the point across.
His style of grading was horrendous. It's as if he took points off for the sole reason of people not receiving an "A" for their grade. His assignments were so general that even if you answered the questions correctly, it would still leave him room to criticize or mark something incorrect. Three exams and Three essays. All tests are short answers.
Very funny professor. I really liked his personality. Very knowledgeable. Multiple choice questions on the test are very easy, but there are usually free response questions which he grades kinda tough on. Will be required to read two books and take quizzes over them. Compared to other teachers, I recommend.
This is my second time taking Lannen, & I wasn't disappointed. The two books that he made us read were interesting, & we had a quiz with both multiple choice & short answer that was simple as long as you read the book. All I had to do to get a good grade was show up, take notes, & reread them before test. He has a dry wit that keeps you interested.
I have taken Lannen for two semesters now and would never pick any other professor over Lannen!! This is the best class to take! Two books to read each semester, 2 essays to write (which you get to do on your own time and pick your due date), 2 quizzes over the books, attendance grade, and he has 5 exams and drops your lowest grade.
Dr. Lannen is a very good professor. He returns grades in a timely manner, and his lectures are rarely boring.
Lane is really awesome and nice. He's good nugget. Take his class, you will enjoy it!
Dr. Lannen was funny, but focused. He used outside media (ex documentaries, movies, music) to flesh out his lectures and give a full view of a time period. He has you read two short books, write two papers (w/ clear requirements), and participate in two class discussions. Nothing very hard, but you do have to study to pass. Not a blow-off, easy A.
Very funny professor! His test are extremely easy, and his lectures are enjoyable. It will be an easy A if you just put in a hour or 2 of studying before his tests and pay attention in class.
Easy A if study for test. Test is all multiple choice with 50 questions, do not have a cumulative final. Lectures each class, never cancels class. One essay for first three tests then a essay for last test.
I've never been big into history until I took his class. His lectures are really easy to follow & he throws in funny tidbits about scandals that were happening. 2 essays for the entire course & gives you an option to make up an essay grade with another essay over a movie. You can tell he's loves what he does which is always a plus because he cares.
He was alright, he grades essays super hard if they aren't done how he wants them to be done. His lectures are interesting, and his tests aren't too bad. You'll have two writing assignments. There's no textbook, but you will be required to read two novels.
I Took Him Twice In passed he is amazing, He works With you and grades fast, If I had another history to take it will definitely be this guy. I will Give Him A 100%
As someone who has always HATED history, I loved this class. His lectures were always really interesting to me and wasn't too hard to keep up with. There's 4 test (lowest gets dropped) and 2 essays that you choose out of 4 different topics. The only "extra credit" opportunity is a makeup essay. Easy A/B if you just read over notes the night before.
lannens a cool guy!! makes history interesting and the lectures fun. i plan on taking him again in the future.
I took Lannen for HIS 133 and despite taking it with over 100 other students, Lannen has a way of making his lectures personal. He's a fairly laid back guy with good, dry sense of humor which made his lectures enjoyable. His tests are all 50 question multiple choice exams and he drops the lowest grade. There are two papers that aren't that hard.
History has always been one of my best subjects until I took him. Grades essays really hard and has few grades. 4 tests(one drops) and 2 essays. His criteria is simple for essays until he grades them and hell give you tons of feedback on things you missed but he didnt ask for in the first place.
As someone who despises history, I never skipped because I enjoyed hearing his lectures. They're humorous and he gives you a nice outline to study. There are few grades but he drops one exam and gives you an opportunity to makeup an essay. You don't even have to read, he puts a study guide online. Overall I would 100% take his class again.
This class is honestly very easy. If you get the notes, and know the vocab (about 20 words) from the textbook the tests are easy. You only have to write 2 essays. I say you don't need the textbook because it's on reserve in the library and you can check it out and find the definitions for the words he wants you to know. take his class!!
Prof Lannen made history more interesting because he enjoys it. I enjoyed the way he lectured. We were graded on two papers and 3 tests (lowest dropped). He does not take attendance but it is best to go because hearing how he explains things will help for tests.
His grading policy is based on points and what he has is straight to the point. 2 books (worth it), 1 text-book, and 4 exams. Nothing more nothing less. His power-point are online but you're basically screwed if you think you could skip his class. Very little detail on the online power-point, so just go to class. His sarcasm is on point!
Not my favorite class. Lannen as a professor is nice! I steadily made B's on each test, but the lowest gets dropped! He showed videos often, but often times I was agitated by the lack of clarity of what was noteworthy. Attendance not required, but go. 2 essays, was super tough on them. Go to his office hours for good feedback!!
I never really cared for history but the way he teaches it is like a story! His powerpoints are mostly pictures and videos, so you have to hear what he has to say, but he lectures in a way that grabs your attention and is intriguing. I took it in the summer & his tests were straight from his lectures, 20 MC, 10 naming, & 2 paragraph responses.
Two books to read outside of class for essays, which are graded easy. Textbook is not required for HIS133-134 as he does not test over text materials. Lectures are mostly photos, so be prepared to show up and pay attention to his words in order to properly understand exam materials. Attendance is not necessary although his online notes are awful
Lectures are not required but are important; everything on the test is literally what he says in class. He does have textbook info on the test, but just read the chapters and you should be fine. He makes it interesting and clearly knows what he is talking about.
Lectures were very informing and gives new perspective on things. 4 tests and 2 essay assignments are the only assignments. I didn't use the textbook, but definitely use the vocab list he gives you. You also have to read two short books during this class.
Prof. Lannen is by far one of the best profs I've ever had. His lectures are like stories. Because of this, it's important to show up to class! His lectures are funny and easy to listen to. I highly suggest attending the SI sessions. The SI had Quizlets for the textbook material. If you do want to read the textbook, it's available at the library!
LOVE Lannen. I hate history, but this class was fun. If you are a good writer, take him!! Tests have multiple choice questions, short ID, and a short essay response. Do well on the smaller assignments as well- they are pretty easy if you do your readings. If you don't understand something or have an issue, talk to him. He responds quickly.
His class was set up where you could do it at your own pace. It was honestly super easy, and it only took half the time another history class would have taken. I cant make it any better than it was. I went from failing history my first semester to getting an A in this course. TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS!!!!!
TAKE THIS TEACHER!! Helped whenever I needed it! Professor responds to emails and cares about his students! the layout is PERFECT for an intro class!! 4 tests, quizzes every module, and 3 assignments. SUPER EASY!! Not proctored and all online!!!!
ONLINE SPRING 1. Professor took all spring 1 term to grade things done at beginning. Easy course. Just have to read the modules and take quizzes. Quizzes pull straight from modules. There is a book you have to read.
Great professor, and it went by smoothly. I did his 8-week course, which was super simple; every quiz and test was based on his posted lectures.
