Class is pretty easy, but boring....test are somewhat easy
Class is soooo boring, test somewhat easy...does take some studying...not too bad though
Oh come on...he's so sweet! He's perty easy and sooo nice...the kind of teacher you just want to hug every day after class:-)
Very boring, but easy....What else can i say.
I liked this class better than Mico
I'm sure he is a good teacher and knows economics well, but I couldn't understand or hear a word he was saying-due to his soft-spokeness and language barrier. He is a nice man, but very hard to understand what he is saying-resulting in major boredom.
The subject is interesting, but he has such a soft voice and an accent that makes him difficult to follow. it is very easy to fall asleep in the class and to not understand what he is saying. however if you have a difficulty, he is very helpful and tries to help as much as he can. He is a very smart man, but just has difficulties communicating.
He is extremely hard to understand but his class is somewhat easy. Majority of tests are online and he grades very easy. He is extremely intelligent but awful to have as a teacher. His class is extremely boring. Don't take him unless you have to.
Very hard to understand his lectures. I would recommend taking Lape if possible. I took lape for the first half of econ and light for the second half, I can say without hesitation, TAKE LAPE.
Has a great understanding of economics. Definite language barrier. Not assertive enough to control loud students. He doesn't take off very much for attendance so if you want to skip a lot of classes you can still get B's by reading the book.
He's a very sweet man. Language barrier and sometimes gets lost in his lecture, but very kind-hearted and loves God. Believes in the power of prayer. Gives extra credit quizzes that if you get them wrong you get 100% and right 120%. No hw. I feel totally lost in the class, mostly from lack of interest in the subject and I still have a B. He's nice.
Dr. Light is a nice man, but has bad English. (He is Chinese). Easy class...do the reading and prepare for tests and you will be fine. Only downfall of the course is that it is boring.
Cant speak good english, so you wont know what he is talking about. His voice and boredem in class will put you to sleep. His test are hard, you have to read the book and read his notes as well, and read the small book as well, but on his test the small book is like common sense stuff. Just don't take this class
Fairly easy class if you understand the study guides for the tests. Bible assignments very easy. The only drawback is he is hard to follow in class and it is VERY boring.
I couldnt understand him hardly at all, and even the English used on his tests are sometimes incomprehensible. He is a nice guy and knows what he is talking about just not able to teach what he knows properly.
I spent so much time trying to translate what this man said that I had no time to understand macroeconomics. I do not know why he is the only professor offered to teach this class. It was unbearable. Even his open book tests were really hard to take.
Dr. Light is an easy professor and a Godly man. He begins with prayer and is always drawing students' attention to God. He does have an accent, but I was able to understand him fine. He does 1-question quizzes that are as simple as could be and gives his notes, PP,& study guide (which he reviews in class). There's no reason to get a bad grade here.
He is a very Godly man, and I appreciate him incorporating Christian principles into the course. It has been nice to have a professor with such a pleasant personality, and who is so willing to help his students.
He is sweet and very godly man. The course is very easy. As long as you study study guide and read textbook, you will be fine. Frankly, he is my favorite professor.
Nice guy who really knows his stuff. Sadly, most of the class will be spent drawing graphs. If you talk to him one on one, you can get a lot more out of the class. The material is pretty easy though, so with just enough study, you can pass without really paying attention.
Dr. Light was extremely helpful in making sure we understood the material. I especially appreciated his clarity in expectations and assignments. Overall, his teaching style made for a great class.
Great heart, loves his job, seemed like he knew his craft very well. But, I couldn't understand a word he said.
Prof Light is an amazing man of God. He constantly brings everything back to a biblical worldview. He does have an accent, but it is not difficult to understand. The class is entirely lecture, so it can be hard to pay attention. It is not difficult if you read the textbook however most people do not read. It is really hard to pay attention honestly
He knows his stuff, however; you really have to pay attention to understand him. He is from Taiwan so english is not his first language. Although when you do pay attention he cracks some hilarious jokes. Never used the textbook and passed the class.
Dr. Light is brilliant, no doubt. He makes a lot of jokes in class, and he was very sensitive to our needs as college students. Economics is a tough subject and not something everyone likes. I'm a total nerd, so I did really well because I paid attention and studied. Pay attention and ask questions. He really loves his students!!
Great teacher! A little hard to understand sometimes, but very good at explaining.
Dr. Light is difficult to understand due to the fact that English is his second language, but he is extremely smart. If you do the reading, come to class, and sit close to the front, you will do well. Dr. Light curves the tests, so if you read and study, you should get an A. Look for Dr. Light's quiet witty humor if you take his class.
I love Dr. Light however I slept through most of his classes and made a quick A in this class, the key isn't listening to what he teaches but instead read the chapters a day or two before the class in full. That being said Dr. Light IS very very smart and knows his stuff. Very quick and easy class, no homework.
Dr. Light really does care for his students and wants you to get a good grade. His test are tough and do need to be studied for, but with a few hours of studying expect to get an A in the class. He does give out pop quizzes which are so easy that they are mainly for attendance! The only thing is he is challenging to understand at times.
He whispers into his microphone, with an accent thick as spoiled custard mixed with concrete and super glue. I can understand two out of every five words he says.
While Dr. Light may know the ins and outs of economics, he does not share feedback with the online students. When I got something wrong, he marked it wrong but offered no explanation as to why. I felt like I learned nothing from this class. If I were to see that he is my professor for another class, I'd drop. Very calculus heavy, brush up! :)
Although Dr. Light is soft-spoken and speaks with a thick accent, he is incredibly intelligent, knowledgeable and really cares for his students. I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Light wasn't an amazing teacher but he was a pretty good one. If you show up to class and study you'll do alright. He does have a heavy accent and speaks very softly though. He is a super nice teacher and will definitely work with you. He curved our last test by quite a bit and also dropped our two lowest quiz grades.
No point in going to class as he isn't a very good teacher. He knows a lot about Econ, but he cant get the information across. Better off teaching yourself by reading the book or going to the tutor.
Fantastic professor, but he really needs a GSA to help him with technology and slides. His accent is very thick, and if you didn't pay attention in micro, I would not take him for macro. His tests are fairly difficult, but if you study properly, you'll be fine.
Professor Light is such a nice guy! Super caring and very knowledgeable. He is hard to follow sometimes, but he is very willing to help you learn and understand if you ask questions. Study of the tests using the textbook. Taking notes during lectures isnt necessary. But study. Definitely study. The tests are worth a lot and aren't the easiest.
I promise to God that I will not take his class again
Dr. Light is not the worst teacher I've ever had. However, he is definitely not very good either. He is a little hard to understand, and his lectures are hard to follow because he writes overtop of the powerpoint slides making them hard to see. I passed this class by just reading the chapters before the tests. You'd be fine not even going to class.
I've had Dr. Light for 2 classes now. He is an excellent professor who makes himself available to his students. If you can get past his strong accent you will learn a lot in his classes
Professor Light is a nice guy and he knows his stuff, however, his accent is very thick and it was very difficult for me to pay attention and get anything out of class. Attendance was given online and left open for days for anyone to take (whether you went to class or not), so theoretically, you could never go to class and do just fine
Because of this class, I DROPPED my econ major. Please don't do this to yourself. I passed because I read the book and went to tutoring. Don't do the Honors section. He is not easy to talk to when you have questions, is not good at communicating information in class (all he does is read a word doc), and struggles with English. Tests are HARD!
Dr. Light is an amazing man! Dr. Light's accent is not heavy and is he is easy to understand. Dr. Light is a brilliant man who teaches the information in and straight forward manner. Anyone griping about Dr. Light probably did poorly for not putting in any work, Econ is not an easy class but is still very enjoyable! Take Dr. Light today... YAY!!!!!
He is really graet professor. However, his first language is not English, so you may feel inconvenience about his pronunciation. Except that, the quality of lecture is perfect and easy.
Dr. Light is a very caring professor. He want to see all of his student succeed. He is difficult to follow due to the accent but you can still excel in the class with slight effort.
Dr. Light is nice, but his lectures can be hard to understand. The grade is mainly based on five exams and a few pop quizzes, but make sure to use his study guide for the exams and you'll do fine. I don't feel like I really learned much in this class, but as long as you complete and understand the study guides it's easy to pass.
Prof. Light-can b slow 2 respond 2 emails (as in days)-Hw per week: read 3 chapters-1 DB (w/ 1 reply)-1 Test-10 math problems & 45+ concepts 2 complete for EACH Schiller chapter (2 chapters per week)-Concepts-VERY lengthy-wasn't told they were included in each chapter/were time consuming. Schiller's online book-VERY frustrating/difficult 2 navigate
Dr. Light seems like a great person and cares about helping his students learn. It's difficult to understand what he says at times due to an accent and his soft-spokenness. He never used teams or tophat which is both good and bad. It is bad because there was no way to watch when you weren't able to attend. Even so, it was fairly easy to pass.
Dr. Light is an absolute legend. He deeply cares about his students, and he makes every effort to express that in class. His lectures are clear and helpful to complement the reading, and he talks through more difficult concepts so everyone understands. Although he has an accent, he is not difficult to understand. Take him if you can!
Dr Light is a star. I had him for an honors section and got a lot from the class. He is quiet and has an accent, but he clearly understands the material and communicates it well. He also seems like one of the kindest professors I've had. Very little homework was required, and there are a few multiple choice tests.
DOES NOT USE TOPHAT OR TEAMS ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY. No one shows up to class and if they do they aren't paying attention. If they do show up its because its a test day. It also doesn't help that Prof. Light is a very soft spoken man with a very noticeable accent that makes it hard to understand what he is saying when teaching.
Class isnt overly difficult but he is a very poor communicator. Lectures really dont relate to test content and are essentially useless, attendance is not enforced. Make sure you read the book, I taught myself the material that way. He also has papers and writing assignments but he doesnt even read them, will just give an A for turning them in.
Professor Light was super nice and chill. He makes his own notes based on the textbook, so you dont really need to read. He uploads PowerPoints to Canvas, and his tests have questions that come from those. He speaks quietly, so sit towards the front if you want to hear. He is a pretty easy grader and tries to inspire us. Great ECON teacher!
impossible to retain any information in class. Literally zero clue what hes talking about
Honestly such a sweet man. Only lectured though and they were honestly just powerpoint read. Tests, quizzes and HW were through a site so they weren't really by him. I didn't learn anything from his lectures so I dropped the course so I wouldn't keep doing poor on tests.
I liked Professor Light's views on economics, but this class was one of the worst classes I've taken yet. He doesn't tell you to read the book; you HAVE to read to do well on the principal tests. His lectures were hard to understand, and the test reviews never helped on the actual tests. Just read the book thoroughly if you want to pass this class.
I love Dr. Light! He's very nice and intelligent and cares about his students. He tries hard to have class engagement and always works through practice problems that are similar to quizzes. All assignments are due at the end of the course, but if you pace your reading and homework/quizzes with the units it's a breeze. Easy A.
Sweet guy, but his English is very broken and he speaks VERY softly. Expect not to learn anything because you can't understand him. Just book a weekly appointment with the tutor and have him explain it to you. All 5 tests are in-person and closed book. Don't use his study guide too heavily, it doesn't cover all of it. Use the PowerPoints on Canvas.
Dr. Light is a kind man and cares about students. Very difficult class. He is very quiet and his accent makes it hard to follow what he's saying. The tests are pretty difficult, so make sure to read the chapters carefully to pass. He didn't even cover the last chapter which is on the final. Take this course online, you will learn more if you do.
Difficult to understand. Very nice guy but not a great teacher. Lecture drags on and notes are hard to take during lectures
Professor Light is very hard to understand. The quizzes and test questions were not related to powerpoint slides and were random. I only passed because of the grace of God. Seems like a nice man though. I can't give any advice on how to pass his classes, just self study I guess.
Took BUSI-405 with him. He is a sweet guy but that's basically it. He is very hard to understand, make material harder to understand, and the class is extremely boring. If you can... Do NOT take a class with him. I have learned nothing but trying to get by. He does not have really any due dates... only wants it by the end of the semester.
Professor Light is a very sweet guy, but not a good teacher. I would advise against taking any classes with him. His accent and culture-gap makes it very difficult to learn from him. His tests are very difficult (I received F's on two of them) even when you study and he offers no extra credit. The tests also don't line up with the taught material
Kind Christian man. I have taken 3 classes with him. Lectures are dry and mostly reading off slides. He is a quiet man, and has a thick accent that can be difficult to understand, and tends to teach in a darker lighting setting. Classes consist of some homework assignments, but most of the points come from tests, which are extremely difficult.
He's a nice guy who knows what he is talking about however he talks quietly and has a thick accent so it's very difficult to pay attention during lectures. However, if you are someone who likes to work at their own pace and teach yourself material he is great for that because all the assignments are due in May.
Just mid. Uses a lot of real world material to connect it to the class which is helpful. But that doesn't always mean he is preparing you for the class. The average test scores are usually mid 70s, but it is really easy to get mid 90s if you spend just a little bit of time studying on your own.
No extra credit, reads off lecture slides, doesn't actually teach, learned absolutely nothing in this course.
Has a quiet broken english voice so lectures are hard to understand. Powerpoints are light compared to homework and tests, quizzes are different. Extra credit on WSJ videos-TAKE THEM THEY HELP
Dr. Light is super nice and caring. Some of his explanations are amazing, clear, and intuitive, other times they are convoluted and confusing. He is a bit hard to understand because of his accent. He struggles with technology and will constantly make mistakes on tests. Work hard and you'll do fine. Brush up on stats before you take BUSI 405.
He seemed to be a very nice man but his English is not very good. His lectures felt very messy and were hard to concentrate on. Be ready to self teach.
Professor Light seems to be intelligent and cares about God. He let us do the exams open book and open note. His English is not good which makes it more difficult for him to explain. I think his explanations are still better than the textbook though.
hard to understand but once you got it you were good
Class was so dry and boring
Dr. Light as a person is super nice but as a professor he's hard to understand. Sometimes in class he'll skip over slides or misspeak on topics. The homework+quizzes go more in depth than the notes and the exams are same level as notes
tests have nothing to do with reviews and study guides. READ THE CHAPTERS lectures are boring and does not teach very well
Be ready to teach yourself everything. Read the textbook if you want to learn anything. The tests are very similar to the quiz questions and are based on the textbook. I got good at guessing on the tests and that's how I ended with an "A. Light is a very kind man and he always asks for prayer requests. However, his lectures are so hard to follow.
Dr. Light's lectures were very messy. He reads straight off the powerpoint you can find in canvas and jumps around the slides which makes it difficult to follow along. The quizzes and homework don't relate to the tests and the tests are heavy weighted. He doesn't give extra credit unless he curves a test.
He just reads off the slides that you can find on canvas. Just read your textbook and do home work in his class. Dont try to pay attention too hard, its all on canvas, and he can be difficult to understand. He is super sweet and helpful if you have questions, and bro will literally just tell you the answer if you ask abt a question on the exams
Nice professor but very hard to understand and teaches only by reading the powerpoints.
Hard to understand his accent and he is very unorganized. Skips around, tests have questions you have never heard about. You have to teach yourself. Better off taking online. They really need to get better professors to teach this important class.
He is super quiet and pretty hard to understand. Every class he just reads the powerpoint word for word so be prepared to teach yourself the whole course. He is super sweet but that's about all he has going for him.
Dr. Light is extremely kind and a wonderful person, but I would not recommend taking his class. He very hard to understand and it is difficult to learn from him. I would recommend taking this course via Sofia.
Very strong accent and difficult to understand, especially in an auditorium. Does not answer questions after class. Tests are hard and pretty math heavy, so bring a calculator. He is a very kind man, just tough to learn from sometimes. He prays for people every class which is nice. If there is another option and you aren't econ savvy, skip.
professor Light is a nice older gentlemen, but teaching is not his thing. He is extremely soft spoken which makes him hard to hear. He is Chinese so he also has a heavy accent and not does not pronounce words correctly. He only reads off the powerpoint and being in class was a waste of time. All learning is out of class reading the course material.
5 exams, slightly english, did not learn anything and had to withdraw.
Light doesn't explain the concepts, instead, he replies on adobe presentations. He will not provide sufficient feedback on assignments. He directs you to non-scholarly YouTube videos. His overall attitude is flaccid and disengaged. The class itself is easy but Light makes it more confusing than not. He's a poor teacher, a moderator instead.
Do not take the class, if possible. Frustrating and hard to understand, though he is very kind. You will teach yourself the whole microeconomics course.
He doesn't speak English, doesn't care about your grade. He is genuinely a nice man, but has no right to be teaching this class.
He is a great guy, but he genuinely doesn't know English. He's been teaching here for 40 years, but he doesn't know what he's doing. The layout of the course is so confusing and he doesn't prepare us for tests. Take ECON213/214 online if possible.
This man. God love him, he cannot teach. Mr. Mans reads off the slides and cannot speak clear English. You can tell he's passionate at the ripe age of 82, but someone please take his place so he can retire. Class is really funny because you are laughing and questioning if it's even real. If you take this class, good luck, you'll need it.
on the first day he said in broken english "if you dont understand just try to understand". God help this class. get ready to cry because you aren't gonna learn anything from Dr. Light and the textbook is barely gonna help you with the homework. 0/10 recommendation for dyslexics. If you cant read, get out early because it's all reading.
I'm sure when he's not teaching, Dr. Light is a great guy but I'd rather shove glass in my eyes than have him again. He's hard to understand, reads exactly off the slides and tells stories not related to Econ. He's 82 and it's cool that someone born in during WW2 is teaching, but it's time for him to retire.
He seems like a nice guy, but his lectures are extremely powerpoint heavy. There is also a ton of homework, and he bunches the dates together so there are multiple weeks of assignments due on the same day. If you can take 214 online, do it
Don't be fooled by the reviews saying that Dr. Light does not speak english, that is not even one of the major issues in his class. Dr. Light, while a nice person, has 0 understanding of technology or modern teaching skills. He reads off of powerpoints the entire class and constantly has to be contacted outside of class for canvas issues.
